Danganronpa ask thing! So many good questions on here. Let's see...
6, 17, & 39. Take your pick or do all three!
6. Do you have a fan character? Tell us about them!
I was going back and forth on if I which character I wanted to do, so I'll just do both of them this time.
First is Micho Auruka, the Ultimate Defense Attorney. Micho is a pretty chill and laid back gal that often gets mistooken for a hobo at times due to her ripped attire unbefitting of a supposed lawyer. Instead of suits and ties, she wears a hoodie and a beanie(that's ripped so her ahoge can fit through). Micho was forced to study professional law by her father, the Chief of Police, and took law and defending pretty well. But due to her being a young girl, she was underestimated by judges and prosecutors alike. So Micho decided that she wouldn't try as much if others wouldn't take her seriously, she was already the smartest person in the room, no need to showboat it, right? This led to her making a devastating mistake in her career, one she dreads thinking about each and every day. Micho is like a big sister to most of her classmates and friends; she's kind, helpful, optimistic, and holds a strong sense of belief in others.
Next is my fankid, Sayuri Hinata, the Ultimate Lucky Student. Initially Sayuri was the Ultimate Friend many years back, but I changed that relatively recently. Sayuri is Hajime and Chiaki's firstborn daughter, she's fun and cheerful and loves to help her friends whenever possible. So much so that she's unsure of what she wants to do with her own life a lot of the time. Sayuri also doesn't have an ahoge funnily enough and is often jealous when her friends have one but not her(she just can't make it stick), luckily her ponytail does all the emoting things too to make up for that.
17. List five headcanons for your favorite characters!
Oh man, we're gonna be here a while...
Hajime Hinata:
-Hajime used to like magic when he was a kid
-Hajime takes care of the neighborhood cat. He's tried taking it in but it always finds a way out, and yet still comes back to him for food.
-Hajime likes swords and imagines dual wielding them.
-Hajime sometimes feels insecure about his body at the beach and wears a T-Shirt or a tanktop when he's not going in the water.
-Daddy issues...and mommy issues...
Chiaki Nanami
-Chiaki plays so much that she forgets to eat and is therefore underweight
-Chiaki doesn't know how to swim and learned from Hajime and her classmates on a beach trip.
-She's cousins with Chihiro Fujisaki and that's why Chihiro and Alter Ego designed her that way.
-Chiaki can play some games in her sleep. Like those biking games at the arcades, her body just moves on it's own.
-Chiaki has her own let's play channel and twitch streaming account.
Miaya Gekkogahara
-I like to imagine that she's related to Monaca in some way. Probably her aunt
-She can talk, it's just that her voice is very low and soft.
-She sometimes talks like Usami, saying "Love Love" frequently
-Miaya likes to give gold stars to some of her children clients that do good in their respective sessions.
-She owns...so many bunny plushies
Kaede Akamatsu
-(This one is post-DR3)She got into an accident with Headmaster Naegi's car and literally begged to be punished because she felt so bad about it.
-When helping Shuichi out at crime scenes, she has a bubble blower that's supposed to be like a gag on cigarettes. She even uses Sherlock Holmes novels words and phrases in an effort to make herself sound smarter.
-She was the pianist for many of the other character's weddings. Makoto and Kyoko. Komaru and Touko. Fuyuhiko and Peko. Even her classmates'.
-And in one such occasion her car was towed while she was in the middle of a song.
-Kaede's favorite fruit is strawberries I imagine.
39. Which character do you feel deserves more love?
Miaya Gekkogahara. Look...I know she basically doesn't talk, and by all accounts in the DR3 anime we never get to see the real her, but c'mooooon! An Ultimate Therapist that helped made the NWP in the second game, and her design is cute as hell! We need more Miaya in our lives. Something, anything, I'm begging over here!

which is your favorite ship of each Danganronpa?
HAHA OH WHAT AN ASK
I yearn so much,,,,,,,too much perhaps
Because of this, my ships make no sense <3 yes I will be attempting to explain, but no they will not be coherent in the slightest <3
Trigger Happy Havoc
Favorite Ship: Makuwata (Makoto Naegi/Leon Kuwata)
OKAY SO-
When I first began playing danganronpa, Leon was INSTANTLY my favorite character. Call it the punk aesthetic, or the voice, or the bright colors, or the emotionally-driven personality; I just thought he was neat ❤️
Because the first interaction he has is with Makoto, it sort of solidified in my heart during his introduction! Introvert x extrovert ship dynamic my beloved,,,,,,
And I just think that Leon calling Makoto his “soulmate” is pretty poggers. Like the man really did have to consciously choose that word!!!!! And he did!!!!! + Makoto being patient with him and the whole “still, I think it’s impossible for me to hate him” just makes me [flappy hands] because god I kin that punk dumbass SO MUCH so I simply would like for Makoto to givb him a little kissy. just a little smooch on the cheek :)
Goodbye Despair
Favorite Ship: Komahina (Nagito Komaeda/Hajime Hinata)
I will be honest, the fact that I like this ship at all is mind-boggling to me. It is literally the ONLY protag/antag ship that I enjoy!!!
But, see, I think the main reason I like it is because Nagito never seems actively malicious during the main game (aside from chapter 4, but even then, he’s not being actively malicious towards Hinata. A lot of people misconstrue his behavior, I think, as being harsh and cruel, when in reality what’s happening is that he simply isn’t worshipping Hinata anymore. He’s being actively cruel towards the rest of the Ultimates, but we actually see him talk about how he and Hinata are pretty similar.
He’s not being a jerk during chapter 4. He’s been genuinely shaken to his core because of the horrific discovery of the fact that these people he cares about, these people he’s spent so much time with, these people he considers his friends, even if they don’t like him, are, in actuality, the personification of the only thing in this world he truly, and utterly, DESPISES.)
Nagito my beloved,,,,,,,ugh he is so Mentally ill™️ ❤️ (I SAY THIS AS A MENTALLY ILL PERSON ASKJDMSDN DON’T KILL ME) There’s also so much queercoding!!!! Of his character!!!!!! They really had him say the romantic I love you to Hajime,,,,,,,they really gave him and Mikan the solidarity during chapter 3!!!!!
And don’t even get me started on the fucking tragedy of him existing at all!!! It fucking hurts!!!! He’s so ashamed of everything about himself!!! He hides the fact that he’s sick and lonely!!! He’s afraid of dying alone!! He’s afraid of people not caring about him, but it’s essentially a self-fulfilling prophecy because of how hard he tries to push people away!
So long story short I just think Hinata would see this man and go “I could fix him. But first I’m gonna kick his teeth in.”
Ultra Despair Girls
Favorite Ship: Tokomaru/Syomaru (Toko Fukawa/Komaru Naegi/Genocide Jill)
YES I know this one is a bit of a cheat out, but I wanted to include them anyway!!!! Toko getting the love and appreciation she deserves???? Toko recovering from being continuously abused and ignored????? Her and Jill as a system being given the respect they BOTH deserve???? FUCK ME UP UGH
Blease,,,,,,Toko and Jill choosing Komaru over Togami,,,,,like canonically??? I’M OBSESSED
And Komaru’s little “Thank God I met Toko!” Voice line fucks ❤️
Also Toko 🤝 Jill
getting their girlfriend’s name wrong on purpose solidarity
Killing Harmony
Favorite Ship: I HAVE TWO FOR THIS GAME BECAUSE IT SLAPS SO HARD!!!! They’re Saimota (Shuichi Saihara/Kaito Momota) and Gontaguuji (Gonta Gokuhara/Korekiyo Shinguuji)
My explanation for saimota is literally just the canon game ❤️
ALSJSLSJD I’M JOKING BUT THEY’RE LITERALLY SO FRUITY /POS
and the love hotel scene,,,,,,,oh my god. “Nobody has ever made me want to stay in one place for so long.” said no straight man ever and “I understand, Kaito. I hold the key to your heart, but…” and also HOW SHUICHI LITERALLY FORGETS WHERE HE IS WHEN KAITO CLOSES THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THEM. HE TALKS ABOUT HOW KAITO IS SO CLOSE AND LOWKEY PANICS BECAUSE OF IT. TRY AND TELL ME THESE FUCKERS ARE STRAIGHT I DARE YOU. I DARE YOU.
personally,,,,,I believe they are underrated ❤️ another extrovert x introvert masterpiece, this time with the added benefit of best friends to lovers!!!!!!! PLEASE I love them so much oh my GOD
As for Gontaguuji,,,,,,,,heheh
traumatized bastard x traumatized sweetheart
They complement each other SO WELL and the fact that they have basically no canon interactions aside from Hair-Raising Panic is fucking CRIMINAL ❤️
Gonta having been raised by wolves is a rare anthropological opportunity for Kiyo!! Of COURSE Kiyo would go out of their way to interact with him and learn more!!!
Gonta is also a huge softie!!! Just a big ol’ affectionate lug!!! Literally everything that Korekiyo has never experienced before; straight up just a man that would put Kiyo’s well-being before anything else 😭
And Kiyo is extremely intelligent, literate, and patient! Like straight up please just imagine Gonta going up to Kiyo because he’s one of the smartest people Gonta knows and being like 🥺👉👈 “can Kiyo teach Gonta how to be smart? Gonta not want to be idiot….” And Kiyo sitting with him and explaining that he’s not stupid, it’s just that he’s a product of a society that is too impatient to appreciate the ways in which Gonta is actually able to express his intelligence.
THINK ABOUT THAT FOR TWO SECONDS AND TELL ME YOU DON’T THINK THEY’D BE GOOD FOR ONE ANOTHER

How about the V3 boys, (the ones who died) with a s/o whos the Ultimate Spirit Medium/Necromancer and they call the spirit of the dead character? I just wanna see some scenarios/hc's of that, if u could do it that'd be gr8! If not thats okay, i understand ^^
hey everyone, long time no see! sorry for sort of vanishing for a while, i’ve been super busy with school and my job and kind of lost interest in danganronpa for a little bit,,,, but i’m back and i’m gonna try my best to get through the requests in our inbox and maybe even try and finish a few more of the october prompts (if you guys would still be interested in seeing those!!).
anyways, sorry for the long wait on your request, anon! this was one i had started a few months ago back when i was writing regularly and i finally buckled down and finished it!! i decided to do all the v3 boys (except kiibo because uhhh hes a robot) instead of just the ones who died in canon to avoid spoilers for anyone who hasn’t finished the game yet!! i apologize if some of these seem repetitive i sorta started running out of ideas by the end lmao. i hope you enjoy, anon!

warnings: mentions of death/dying (obviously), general angst
*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚:*✧・゚:
Shuichi Saihara
— to say the least, Shuichi is a little shaken up now that he’s gone and you’re... well, not.
— he always told you he’d stay by your side forever, and he feels guilty. he feels like he broke a promise
— but... you talk to him again that first night. you say his name and look straight at him. can you see him? no, it couldn’t be... right?
— of course, once he puts all the pieces together, it all makes sense
— you’re the ultimate spirit medium, for goodness sakes! of course you can see him and speak to him the same way you would any other living person
— after a while, Shuichi stops feeling so guilty for leaving you. partially because it doesn’t feel quite like he’s abandoned you, and also because you reassure him that he didn’t do anything wrong by dying
— i mean, come on, it’s not his fault he got killed! how could you ever hold that against him?
— still, it takes him some time to come to terms with everything.
— though he loves you, he still finds it sad that he can never speak to anyone else ever again. at least, not without your aid.
— but as long as he has you by his side to help him cope... he knows he’ll be alright
— after all, he loves you, and you love him. and that’s enough to give him the strength he needs to keep from falling apart.
Rantaro Amami
— he's still very protective of you, despite the fact he’s merely a spirit now
— he’s always right by your side, no matter what.
— even when you aren’t able to take a moment to talk to him, or even look in his direction, Rantaro is right there
— if he were still alive, the way he now follows you around all the time may seem obsessive and creepy, but you actually appreciate it
— nobody else can see or speak to him but you, which makes his constant presence comforting, in a way
— Rantaro isn’t able to touch you in the same way he could when he was alive, but nonetheless, he still tries
— he’ll try to place his hand atop yours, or wrap his arms around your figure, but he always just passes straight through you
— you find the chill that blossoms on your skin where he touched you comforting; it’s a reminder that even though he’s gone, he’s still there with you
— it breaks his heart that he can’t truly be with you, but he tries not to focus on his own problems too much
— after all, your happiness is much more important to him than his own; you are his priority
— you’ll have to remind him that it’s okay for him to be sad, and that he shouldn’t bottle up his own emotions to be there for you
— he’ll want to keep being the person to take care of you, and watch out for you, but he needs you to be that person for him
Kokichi Ouma
— you didn’t really think Kokichi would start behaving himself just because he’s dead, did you?
— honestly he uses the fact only you can see and speak to him to his advantage
— good luck trying to keep your cool around other people while he’s off being a clown right in front of you
— but of course, he’s not all fun and games
— i mean... he’s dead. and that sucks
— he probably won’t show it, at least not right away, but he doesn’t like the feeling of separation between you two
— sure, he’s still around, but not like before. before, he could surprise you with a kiss or a suffocating hug, but he just can’t do that anymore
— it hurts. really bad.
— but he knows he’ll be okay. he know’s he’ll get used to it someday, as long as he has you with him to cheer him up when he gets especially sad
— you’re his sunshine, and he may not show it, but he needs you. so don’t leave him all alone, okay?
Gonta Gokuhara
— lets be honest... Gonta has the hardest time of the bunch adjusting to being nothing more than a spirit
— you’ll likely have to give him a lot of comfort. he’s confused, and he misses being able to be with you for real :(
— the hardest part for him is no longer being able to touch you
— he longs to feel your lips press gently against his cheek, to lay in your lap as your hands comb through his hair... he’d give anything to hold you in his arms again...
— unlike Rantaro, he’s not content with merely passing through your body when he makes contact with you
— it just... upsets him. it’s a cruel reminder that his life ended, and that he will never get to hold you, kiss you, and just love you the way he could before his life ended
— be patient with him, please... he’ll adapt eventually... but it could take a while
— just make sure to remind him how much you love him, he’ll need a lot of reassurance and comfort from you
Kaito Momota
— surprisingly, Kaito adapts to the situation pretty well
— if he is struggling with any sort of major emotions, he’s doing a stellar job of hiding it from you. and you hate that
— you don’t totally believe him when he says he’s okay, or when he tells you not to worry about him
— you know him better than that. it doesn’t make sense to you. he just died for crying out loud! he can never follow his dreams, never have the future he always wanted with you
— and you don’t understand how he can just shrug all that off and continue being your boyfriend like normal
— you confront him about it one night. he’s laying on his back, hovering beside you as you read (Kaito loves being able to float around in midair. perks of being a ghost, right?)
— "how can you be okay?" you blurt out suddenly. he looks at you, confused.
— you continue, asking all the questions that had been gnawing at you for days, and when you finally finish, he just laughs
— "of course i’m upset. but it’s a man’s job to protect the ones he loves! and being there for you is much more important than staying upset about this." he explains
— you can’t help but feel a little stupid. he’d always put you first, always prioritized your needs over anyone else’s, even his own. and he wasn’t about to stop just because he died
— fortunately for you, he isn’t upset with you sort of asking him why the hell he wasn’t a huge, depressed mess.
— in fact, he thinks it’s really sweet that, despite the fact you should be worried about yourself so you don’t end up joining him in the afterlife, you spent your energy fussing over him
Korekiyo Shinguji
— with Kiyo, not much changes. at least, not on his end.
— he’s very fascinated by the mere notion of being a spirit and has the time of his life unlife getting used to his new body
— at first you’re happy for him. i mean, it’s good that he’s not struggling, right? shouldn’t you want him to feel okay? you wouldn’t want him to suffer in sadness like you, right?
— but he’s so enthralled with his new state of being he... almost forgets to check up on you
— and even when he does spend time with you, it almost feels like all he does is talk about himself and the new things he’s discovered about being a spirit
— it’s frustrating, to say the least. you know you didn’t truly lose him, but it feels like you did
— when you finally tell him that you feel like he’s changed, he’s confused
— when Kiyo hears you say how much you miss him, how you feel like he’s so different now, he’s kinda just like ???????
— how could he be different? it’s still him, don’t you know that?
— after a long night of reflecting while you sleep (not needing rest is one of the many perks of being a spirit), Kiyo realizes what he’s been doing wrong
— you used to love when he’d talk to you endlessly about his work, his research, etc.
— but now, when he’d ramble on for hours about new things he’d learned thanks to being a mere spirit, it was just another painful reminder to you that he was dead. that he was gone.
— the moment he gets a chance, he apologizes to you. it’s a bit of an emotional moment for both of you, being the first time either of you have confronted the end of Kiyo’s life head on
— he tries to hold you, but all you feel is an icy chill where his flesh would have met yours, but oddly enough... it doesn’t make you feel worse
— you’d anticipated another tsunami of your own tears after Kiyo’s body passed through yours, but it’s comforting, albeit in a morbid way
— he’s gone, but you haven’t lost him. and you’ll never lose him; he’ll remind you of that every day if he has to
Ryoma Hoshi
— man, if you thought ryoma’s attitude and general outlook on life was depressing before, you’ve got a big storm coming
— for a long time after his death, he’s very... cold. to everyone and everything
— he’s upset. but not because he’s dead, but because he can’t protect you anymore
— being there for you, to defend you and keep you safe, had become his raison d’être, so to speak
— he knows you can still see him and talk to him. he’s not stupid. but he pretends he doesn’t hear you at first. part of him thinks that if he shuts you out long enough, you’ll come to your senses and realize you should be upset with him
— but you never do. despite what he thinks he deserves, you never turn on him, never give up on him, never stop loving him
— with time, he’ll come around and start learning to cope with his own death, and the fact you outlived him
— and you’ll be there with him every step of the way (whether he likes it or not)

Behind the Scenes of “Hologram”
Today marks exactly one year since I posted arguably my most popular fic. “Hologram” is a postgame Saiouma one-shot about escapism, loneliness, and running away from the past. I put a lot of myself into this fic and I’m blown away by all the love it’s received, not only on AO3 but in Discord servers and other social media. All that excitement made me keep thinking about it, so I thought I’d share a (very self-indulgent) behind-the-scenes of sorts about how I wrote it, as well as what I think of the story.
This essay will contain spoilers for the whole fic, so if you’d like to read it first, you can find it here. Of course, if the tags scare you off, that’s valid, but you might want to skip this post too since I’ll be quoting it throughout (so, just to be safe, expect the warnings I’ve posted on AO3 to apply here too).
If you’re a Lorde fan you’ll recognize the lyrics in the fic summary – “Nothing’s wrong when nothing’s true,” from “Buzzcut Season.” The inspiration for this fic came to me while I was on my way to an early shift at work, and I needed a good song in my head to give me the will to live for the next eight hours. Not sure why I chose that song in particular, but maybe part of it is because I like imagining stories to go along with the songs I listen to, like AMVs playing in my head, and I’d never been able to pin down exactly what this song reminded me of.
The mood of the music is really what compelled me – there’s something lonely about it, and the lyrics sound like the singer’s trying to convince herself that everything’s okay even when all evidence points otherwise. There are “explosions on TV”, and “The men up on the news / They try to tell us all that we will lose,” but “we live beside the pool / Where everything is good.” Despite everything going wrong, despite the notes of fear creeping into the pre-chorus, the character will “play along… in a hologram with you” and “never go home again.”
From there, it was an easy jump to “postgame Saiou” and that was that.
There’s a cloud of seagulls hovering in the air around him, and a dozen or so more standing just out of reach, staring him down with beady black eyes. Kokichi takes a slice of bread from the loaf he’s holding and tosses it to one of the birds, watches it catch it and stumble under the weight, watches its head bob as it tries to swallow the whole thing at once. It gets remarkably far before four other birds descend on it, shrieking wildly.
“Mine, mine, mine,” he mumbles into his folded arms, wondering if Shuichi would get the reference.
He really wishes Shuichi was here.
Kokichi upends the rest of the loaf of bread onto the sidewalk and laughs at the resulting chaos until his chest aches.
To start off, I wanted to create the same lonely mood from “Buzzcut Season” in Kokichi’s simulation. He’s not exactly trapped there, but he’s refusing to leave, because as long as he’s on the fake Jabberwock Island, he can pretend the killing game never happened. The trade-off to that escapism is that the only people he can talk to are the NPCs, who aren’t complex enough to be remotely interesting to him, and Usami, who… well, tries her best, but is more of an informational / moderation program and can’t offer him what a therapist could.
The only thing Kokichi has to look forward to is Shuichi, who he’s convinced is an extremely lifelike computer program rather than the real thing, because the real Shuichi would definitely hate him for everything that happened during the killing game. He’s so locked into this line of logic that he doesn’t let himself consider that Shuichi has forgiven him – he doesn’t even have a good answer for why the Future Foundation wouldn’t just keep the supposed Shuichi AI on indefinitely, believing it’s their way of baiting him into leaving the simulation.
It’s not a healthy or sustainable lifestyle in the slightest, but Kokichi stubbornly refuses to do anything but wander the islands aimlessly, passing the time with ice cream and feeding seagulls until the next time he can see Shuichi.
He dreams that DICE is here in the simulation with him, smiling and carefree as they explore the weird music venue. One of them has gotten the karaoke machine working, and another found a box of kazoos and maracas in the back room. Kokichi already pities anyone unfortunate enough to walk by the building tonight.
“Not going to sing, Joker?” one of his DICE asks (over the sound of their youngest member shrieking through seven kazoos at once), sitting on the bench next to him.
“Some games are more fun to watch than play,” he answers, leaning back on his hands and sighing.
           “Like a killing game.”
The warm dream-atmosphere turns cold then, and Kokichi’s head snaps over to look at him—but his brother is gone and Kaito’s looking back at him instead, blood in his teeth and face ashen pale.
“You... we don’t have to do this, man,” Kaito says, but it’s a lie and they both know it, and he doesn’t want to look behind him because he knows the machine’s looming over him with its unyielding steel and slow slow slow descent—
“You’re not real,” he snaps at dream-Kaito, who doesn’t respond except to lift him up again. “Nothing’s real, none of—PUT ME DOWN! LET GO OF ME! DON’T PUT ME BACK IN THERE!”
“Death is more mercy than you deserve,” Kaito says, and Kokichi claws and bites and kicks his way out of Kaito’s grasp like a wild animal, only to end up in front of a prison cell full of—
DICE, his beloved DICE, trapped and hurt and afraid, bloodied and beaten and helpless.
“Why didn’t you save us, boss?” says his second-in-command, clutching the bars with bleeding hands. “Why didn’t you do more? Now we’re all dead and it’s because of you.”
Moments like this are my reference to Buzzcut Season’s pre-chorus, where the not-okay starts to creep into the illusion. Despite Kokichi’s valiant efforts to forget, he’s still dealing with the aftermath of seeing his family hurt and in danger, watching his friends die, orchestrating the deaths of two of them, being killed himself— and then being told every bit of it was made up to entertain an audience who sees nothing wrong with that picture. Running away is not the way to heal from trauma, and one day soon it’s all bound to come crashing down around him.
“Do you know what this … island paradise represents, Kokichi?” [Hinata] asks, and Kokichi’s really not in the mood for a lecture but he continues anyway. “Jabberwock Island … was the setting for the fiftieth season of Danganronpa. The golden anniversary, they called it. It was my season.”
Kokichi hunches over, hugging his arms over his torso and stifiling a scream. He does not want to think about this right now—
“They wanted it to be the best season of all, which, unfortunately for us, meant it was also the bloodiest,” Hinata says. “Twice as many participants, deadly traps hidden across each of the islands— they even changed the way the motives worked, like when they told Fuyuhiko to cut out his own eye so Peko could have a quick death instead of suffering for days.”
“Do I look like your therapist, porcupine-head?” Kokichi hisses. A sharp pain is pounding into his skull, and there’s a bitter, metallic taste at the back of his throat. A taste like poison and blood.
“There was so much going on that the simulation malfunctioned,” Hinata says. “When people died, their Ultimate talents downloaded themselves into me. I’m told that the stress of so many personality grafts came close to liquefying my frontal lobe. I’m lucky I woke up at all… especially considering more than half of the others didn’t.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Kokichi grates out through the static building in his head. If he opens his eyes, will he see the beach or the dull chrome of the machine closing in on him?
“Because I know how much you want to forget about what happened,” Hinata says. “Believe me, I get it.”
           ….
“These things that happened to us… we can’t erase them, no matter how much we want to. Some things have to be remembered.”
I’d mostly like to leave Hajime’s season up to interpretation, but there are a couple things I wanted to say about it. I imagine Danganronpa is like the Hunger Games in that it’d go all out for big anniversaries. So, there were twice as many participants for the Jabberwock Island beatdown that was probably subtitled “Bloodbath Bay” or something equally appealing. The game’s formula changed from a focus on the mystery and the trials to “look at all these kids massacring each other a la Lord of the Flies,” and since the VR system wasn’t equipped to handle that many people and their deaths, it malfunctioned, giving Hajime way too many Ultimate talents and putting half the cast into comas from which they never woke up.
Viewers either absolutely loved or absolutely hated this season, depending on whether they were DR fans because of the “blood n’ guts” factor or the “mystery and psychological thriller” aspect. Team Danganronpa faced quite a bit of backlash for actually causing the real-life deaths of half its participants, but were able to weasel their way out of serious legal repercussions because of the waivers the participants had signed beforehand (plus a lot of bribery and falling back on their longstanding popularity). So, the cast of Season 50 failed to end the killing game, but helped provide great evidence for the “Danganronpa is morally wrong” argument.
Hajime works as a victim liaison for the Future Foundation and has been trying to take down Danganronpa since he got out of it. He’s like that in a few of my fics, actually; I like the idea of Hajime acting as a big brother of sorts to the V3 cast. It’s especially entertaining to imagine his interactions with Kokichi— though maybe not so much in Hologram, since to Kokichi he’s a representation of the past he’s trying so desperately to forget and the future he refuses to acknowledge.
“SHUT UP!” He launches himself at Hinata, his hands wrapping around the other man’s throat as he uses his momentum to slam him to the ground. “SHUT! UP!”
“Ko— ghk—” Hinata coughs, eyes wide with surprise, but aside from moving his hands up to grip Kokichi’s wrists, he doesn’t seem all that worried about fighting back.
The thought only fuels Kokichi’s rage until he’s choking Hinata so hard his knuckles are white. “If you want me out of this simulation so badly, you can kill me,” he snarls. “I’m never waking up! I’m never leaving, do you UNDERSTAND ME?”
Hinata grimaces, the outline of his avatar flickering, but he still doesn’t struggle, and Kokichi hates him all the more for it, despises him with a seething malice that festers low in his stomach. He wonders distantly if he’d actually kill this man in real life. Or if he’d be able to stop himself, feeling like this.
Kokichi’s breakdown here is more out of fear than anger. Like I mentioned, Kokichi sees Hajime as another piece of what’s hurt him, and no matter how Hajime tries to help, Kokichi will always remember Danganronpa whenever he sees him.
Warm yellow-orange light casts a relaxed, cozy glow over the dining hall. It’s an ambience compounded by the flickering candles on the table, which seems overly idyllic, but Kokichi will let it slide because of the adorable way Shuichi flushed when he noticed them as they sat down. Well, if he’s being honest, everything about Shuichi right now is adorable, from the way his hair keeps falling into his eyes to the way he’s nervously fiddling wth his chopsticks. Kokichi wishes he could keep staring at him forever.
Ah, not… not in a weird way, though, just… because Shuichi’s beautiful, and when Kokichi looks at him he can forget everything bad that’s ever happened, can create some new and brighter world to exist in.
This is an idea I wish I’d had room to explore a bit more in the story— that is, just how far Kokichi will go to pretend everything’s fine. I thought about making him border on delusional, like having him talk to people who aren’t there or forget what’s actually happening around him because he’s so lost in his fiction-within-a-fiction. It would have creeped Shuichi out a whole lot.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t much room for that past the plot I’d already nailed down, so I focused on his loneliness and escapism instead. I do touch on it later in this scene, though— the couple paragraphs where he slips into fantasizing about being a phantom thief having a surreptitious meeting with his detective under the not-so-subtle supervision of his DICE. There would have been a lot more of that if I’d gone with the ‘delusion’ stylistic choice, to the point where even the readers would be confused about what’s real. Maybe I’ll look into writing something similar in a future story.
Eventually, Shuichi sets down his bowl and looks away with a little sigh, and Kokichi clenches his teeth because that’s the sigh he does when it’s time for that conversation.
           “Um… Kokichi?”
Kokichi’s only response is to exhale the breath he’d been holding in a quiet hiss.
“I-I know you don’t want to, but… but I really need to talk to you about something,” Shuichi says. “Please?”
“My Mr. Detective can talk about whatever he’d like!” Kokichi says with a lilt to his tone that makes it sound more sarcastic than he wants it to. He takes the last bite of curry and wishes that it burns hot enough to hurt.
           “It’s about Kaito.”
This more serious part of the date scene is meant to reflect the little bridge in “Buzzcut Season”:
“Cola with the burnt-out taste
I’m the one you tell your fears to
There’ll never be enough of us.”
It’s a part of the song that sounds especially bittersweet to me, a bit of self-awareness between the insistence that everything’s okay.
Really all I think I managed was to reference it when Kokichi’s internal dialogue comments on his drink being “so sweet it tastes burnt” and then later not tasting like anything. But hopefully the mood’s still there.
“Tell him… that I have nothing against him,” he says.
           “That’s … not a lie?” Shuichi presses.
Kokichi shakes his head idly, still not raising his gaze. “I wanted to wreck the killing game and he wanted to save his friend. We both got what we wanted. I’d say the end more than justifies the means.”
           Was that a lie?
(I don’t want to die Shuichi I’m sorry I’m sorry save me Shuichi please I’m sorry ithurtsmakeitstop—)
His fingers tighten into clawlike shapes, nails digging sharply into his forearms.
I really don’t think Kokichi would have anything against Kaito, even if here he’s not being completely honest with how much he’s affected by what happened. It wouldn’t make sense to him to hate Kaito for something he himself proposed, but I think there’d still be a subconscious barrier between them. Too much history.
“Don’t go, Shuichi, I’m so sorry, I— that was so dumb, what I said, please don’t be sad anymore.” He’s not sure if he can’t breathe because of the exertion of running or because of the hysteria boiling over in his head. “Please don’t go, I didn’t mean to hurt you— please don’t leave, Shuichi, I’m so sorry.”
“Oh, Kokichi….” Shuichi’s tone is strange, soft and pitying, like he sees something Kokichi doesn’t, and he shakes his head slowly as more tears follow the paths of the others.
Kokichi goes to his knees, ready to grovel if that’s what it takes, but Shuichi follows him down, closing his other hand over Kokichi’s, and then they’re both crying and he doesn’t know why, and all he can do is repeat a mantra of I’m sorry and hold on as tight as he can.
It’s horrible. Shuichi’s horrible. Shuichi’s wonderful, and kind and lovely and perfect and Kokichi hates him, Kokichi adores him, and it doesn’t matter because Shuichi’s not actually here but Kokichi doesn’t want to be alone, just let me pretend some more, please, please let me have this—
“I’ll… I’ll stay,” Shuichi says at last. “I can stay a while longer.”
You shouldn’t, Kokichi wants to say, but his mouth won’t obey him. You shouldn’t stay if you don’t want to. I don’t deserve having you here. I’m not worth your mercy.
But there on the bridge, crying tears of relief, he soaks up as much mercy as he can get and hopes it’s enough to drown him.
I wanted to create a contrast between them that highlights just how the isolation and trauma Kokichi’s experiencing has affected him. He has an almost unhealthy reliance on Shuichi as “the only thing that makes this world bearable,” and panics when faced with the prospect of being alone again so soon. Part of why Shuichi’s crying is because he’s realized the extent of Kokichi’s desperation. It’s not that he thinks Kokichi’s apology is insincere, but that he’s hardly heard him apologize for anything before, so Kokichi going this far has him realizing how bad things really are.
The door rumbles and slides open when they approach, revealing the bright light of the log-out point that took Shuichi away every time, that would wake Kokichi up in his real body if he walked into it. Shuichi stops just a step away from it, biting his lip as if searching for something to say, but before he can find it, Kokichi reaches out to tug at his sleeve.
“Shuichi?” he says, distant as the waves on the beach that he can still hear if he listens closely enough. Shuichi turns back toward him. “Before you go, can I be selfish one more time?”
           “Huh…?”
Shuichi doesn’t move when Kokichi steps closer, reaches up to ghost his fingertips over Shuichi’s jaw and around the back of his neck. He lets Kokichi tilt his head downward, lets him hover inches away, close enough to feel their breath mingle in the night air. Kokichi pauses there to give him the chance to pull away. He doesn’t.
So Kokichi closes his eyes and the distance between them.
That last line is a ZEUGMA! It’s a literary device where one word refers to two more in a different way. A popular example is the hyenas’ line “Our teeth and ambitions are bared” from The Lion King. It’s my favorite grammatical trick and I’d love to see more of it in fanfic.
Slowly, he slides his hand down to Shuichi’s shoulder, using it as leverage to push himself away. That hurts even more. He can’t seem to open his eyes, and he feels so weakened, breathless, fragile. Cracked open, hollowed out.
When he finally does open his eyes, Shuichi’s are wide with some mix of astonishment and a dozen other emotions. Kokichi bows his head, taking a deep breath to ground himself. “Sorry,” he whispers. “I just wanted to know.”
“Kokichi,” Shuichi breathes, like a bullet through his heart.
“Goodbye, Shuichi,” Kokichi says, and shoves him into the light.
Shuichi’s little yelp of surprise cuts off abruptly as he falls through the door, vanishing into the glow, and all too soon, Kokichi’s alone again in a dream that suddenly seems far too vast. Alone, with the faintest taste of Shuichi’s lips still lingering on his own.
And he thinks, It was enough just to know you.
           It’s a lie.
Nothing to say here except that this is my favorite scene and I’m so happy with how it turned out.
Fake sun rises over fake ocean, fake seagulls glide through fake sky while fake wind tousles fake palm fronds. Kokichi lies on his stomach in the fake grass and talks to his fake family in the fake notebook. Gives them fake names and runs through everything he remembers about them. Apologizes, over and over, wishes he could hug each of them goodbye one last time. Wonders if it would be more painful to die or to never have existed at all.
He leaves the notebook of his memories on the seat of one of the Ferris wheel cars on the fourth island, because one time he promised them they’d steal the London Eye together.
He buys a can of fake soda from the fake convenience store on the first island and sits on the fake beach watching the fake waves. Wonders when he’d hit the end of the simulation if he started swimming, or if he’d drown first.
White sand, blue sea, bluer sky. Washed out, like an amateur watercolor painting.
He opens the soda can and raises it to his mouth, but … even the thought of drinking it makes him sick to his stomach. He sets it down in the sand and flicks it over, watching the bubbly liquid run down and sink into the sand. The color’s all wrong, like blood streaked against a metal floor.
He walks the fake streets of the fifth island, passing fake skyscrapers and fake commuters and their fake conversations, until he finally stops outside the factory he’s never been able to bring himself to go into. Smells like oil, and metal and machines and he can hear the sounds and he’s immediately back in the hangar, dizzy on adrenaline and desperation and leaning heavily on Kaito so he doesn’t keel over and die then and there. Kaito says something about how maybe he should sit down for a minute, and Kokichi didn’t agree back then but he does now, goes down on all fours and dry heaves.
When his vision solidifies and he can stop gasping for breath, he sits up and presses his back against the factory wall, covering his ears and hiding his face in his knees. Tries to convince himself not to imagine Shuichi’s there with him, holding his hand again, promising everything’s going to be okay.
“I’ve got you. No one’s going to hurt you anymore,” or maybe, “Breathe with me, it’ll be over soon. You’re safe now.”
           I love you.
He laughs until there’s nothing left in his lungs. He called these little daydreams obsession, before, but now they just seem sick and insane.
I wanted to indicate throughout this scene that Kokichi’s gotten substantially worse. Instead of halfheartedly interacting with the NPCs or finding something to spend time doing, he’s aimlessly wandering the islands, focused on how fake all of it is. Not even talking to his sketches of DICE can make him feel better. The suicidal ideation starts to slip in even if he doesn’t realize it— a fixation on wondering what death is like, purposefully triggering himself by walking by the factory….
The thing I want to talk about most though is the italicized I love you. I left it outside of quotation marks and dialogue tags on purpose because I wanted it to be ambiguous as to who’s saying it. If it’s Kokichi’s line, it’s sudden and almost out of place, like he couldn’t hold back from thinking it anymore. But it could be Shuichi saying it, too. Since it’s outside quotation marks, unlike the previous dream-Shuichi lines, it’s more vague, almost a whisper in Kokichi’s thoughts— like he can barely bring himself to imagine it and even feels guilty doing so, because there’s no way it could possibly be real.
           Which do you think?
Eh, I don’t have an answer. When I hear it in my head, they say it at the same time.
“How did you know?” he finally croaks.
Shuichi’s breathing still sounds shaky, too. “Because you said ‘goodbye,’” he says.
Kokichi finally looks up at him in a silent question.
“You never say goodbye,” Shuichi says, rubbing his sleeve over his eyes. “It’s always….”
“‘See you later,’” Kokichi finishes for him. Despite himself, a tiny huff of astonished laughter escapes him. “I didn’t even know, not until a couple of hours ago. And you figured it all out from one word?”
Shuichi bites his lip at that. “You kissed me,” he says.
Kokichi’s stomach twists and he looks away. “I said I was sorry—”
“No.” Shuichi squeezes his hand into a fist and lets it fall to thump against Kokichi’s chest, like he’s trying to knock some sense into him. “It was so honest, and vulnerable, and… and I know how much you hate showing how you really feel.” Another tiny sob catches in his throat. “And so it felt like … like something you’d do if you weren’t going to s-see me again.”
“Shuichi….” Kokichi trails off as Shuichi muffles his cries in his hand again. He’s so breathtakingly smart. There’s no one else in the world who thinks that way, no one else who could possibly be that attentive and that clever. Not a programmer, not a team of shrinks… how can an AI manage it? How is it that Shuichi always manages to take him by surprise? How can he see straight through him when he least expects it?
Kokichi’s hand reaches up to Shuichi’s cheek. Reverently traces the path of the tears falling down it.
“I wish you were real,” he confesses in a whisper.
Kokichi’s stubborn. So, so stubborn. And he’s not used to being cared about, if the way he does everything by himself is any indication. So it makes sense to me that he’ll refuse to believe anything good can happen to him even in the face of convincing evidence. He’s pretty self-hating for someone so arrogant.
Kokichi’s weak, deep down to his core, weak for this man. Already knows he’d do anything for him, and the thought is terrifying—that one person could have that much power over him, even if he doesn’t realize it.
But what if he has realized it? Couldn’t this all be an elaborate ruse, a lie he knew Kokichi would be so desperate to believe that he wouldn’t bother questioning it?
…Shuichi’s never hurt him, though. Only that one time, when he really deserved it. Shuichi wouldn’t … betray him, even for what he thinks is Kokichi’s own good. They’re… different from each other, that way.
           But still….
“I’m so scared, Shuichi.” It’s barely a whisper. “I don’t want to be alone anymore.”
“You won’t be.” It’s so hard to be skeptical, lost in his eyes. “I’ll be right there with you, for as long as you want. I won’t let you feel like this anymore.”
Promise me, he wants to blurt out. Promise you’ll stay. Promise me you’ll never leave me, Shuichi, he wants to demand, but that’s wrong, that’s manipulative and selfish and everything he doesn’t want to be for Shuichi anymore.
Shuichi, of course, says it anyway.
           “I promise, Kokichi.”
…
“Kiss me again,” he says. “Please?”
Shuichi leans in close, then pauses, his brow furrowing the way it does when he catches him in a lie.
“I’ll kiss you again in the real world,” Shuichi says. “Okay?”
Kokichi shakes his head. “Shuichi, please.” Please, I don’t think I can do this. Please, I don’t want to wake up to a lie. Please, one last kiss for me to remember in case it was all fake.
Shuichi reaches out to tilt his chin up and Kokichi closes his eyes, savoring every second, burning it into his memory.
Shuichi’s soft breath ghosts over his lips.
           “Trust me,” he murmurs.
Kokichi’s eyes flutter back open, searching his face. Shifting him around on the white board in his head, seeing what categories he fits into this time. Weird, of course. Suspicious, maybe not. Trustworthy?
           Trustworthy….
“I do trust you,” he realizes.
Kokichi’s still hesitant to accept all of this— Shuichi kissing him didn’t magically fix everything. He’ll still doubt all the way to the log-out point, but at least now he realizes that this simulation is only hurting him— that if things are to get better they’re going to have to change, too. He’s got a long way to go before he’s all right, but he’s not going to have to face it alone anymore.
             And that’s a wrap!
Once again, I’m really proud of this story, and I feel like I grew as a writer because of it. There are a few things I would change if I wrote it again, but for all its flaws it’s still my baby and I like how it turned out.
Thanks again for all your support for “Hologram,” and thanks even more if you actually waded through all this nonsense of a director’s cut. It’s a huge confidence-boost to think that people liked what I wrote, and even wanted to hear what I had to say about it. If there’s any interest, I’d love to review some of my other fics here, or theorize or brainstorm or whatever else  you’re into. (Ask me what Byakuya’s Thing is in my superhero AU, I dare you 😉)
I do have a WIP in my folder of bits and pieces currently titled “boy finally gets that kiss”, and it’s a post-Hologram scene from Shuichi’s point of view to just sorta… tie it all together, have them talk things over again… and kiss, of course. We’ll see if anything comes out of that.
           Until next time!

Self Sabotage
Kokichi x Reader
Warning: Cursing, Angst, Violence
Tumblr media
Oh man, oh brother. What's Kokichi gotten himself into this time? One simple lie wasn't going to save him, not now.
Worriedly, he searched the woman's face for any sign, any sign of lies or jokes, but it seemed to Kokichi that his luck had ran out.
"W-What is this?" He managed to squeak out after finally the lump in his throat. The pit of dread in his stomach made it almost difficult to stand up. "This...this has to be a joke! Right?"
"Lying is your thing, not mine." She shrugged gently. "Anyways, I'll call you tomorrow, and we can talk about it then." The woman got up from the chair, paid her half of the bill, and walked out the restaurant without another word.
All Kokichi could do was sit in the chair in shock, in utter disgust, with himself and with the world. The woman he had a one-night stand with was pregnant? How could he do this to himself? How could he do this...to you? All because he decided to be selfish and get drunk one night with his friends, no less.
Well, no. That was a lie actually. He chuckled bitterly to himself, while burying his head in his hands. "Even now, in a time like this, I choose to lie to myself."
The truth of the matter is, he did out of nothing but pure spite. A couple months back, your job took up most of your time. After all, you had just moved in with your new fiancè, and needed a way to pay your share of the bills. Kokichi felt bad that you were working so hard, and to cheer you up a little, he would come visit you at your otherwise dreadful job waiting tables. All was fine at first, and he didn't really mind how late you would come home sometimes. However, once he started taking notice of how close you'd gotten with one of your coworkers, he was instantly suspicious.
There was no way their jokes were that funny, and there was absolutely no way you didn't see the way that they looked at you. He recognized that look in their eye whenever you talked. He saw the way they would lightly touch your arm, or give you very suspicious comments on your appearance. And it drove him fucking insane. This was the moron that you spent most of your time with when he wasn't there? Well, Kokichi will do as Kokichi does, and his insecurity and rampant jealousy caused him to create the lie in his head that you were falling in love with that living, breathing waste of space, and slowly falling out of love with him as a result.
He was pissed. He was angry, he was disappointed, but most of all, he was absolutely heartbroken at the thought of you leaving him. For once in his life, he'd opened up to somebody who understood him, and didn't just turn away from his lies and mischief. He allowed himself to be honest with you, to be vulnerable to you, and now... No. This is not how Kokichi Oma would go out. He refused to play the part of the poor fool. He had to take revenge, and he had to do it fast.
Finding some random whore on the street to hook up with was the easy part. It was the emotional consequences he dealt with before, during, and especially after the act that was hard to push through. The woman meant absolutely nothing to him; all he saw her as was a tool in his plan. Still, through the following days, he waited and waited to hear you tell him that he was leaving you, but to his shock, they never came. In fact, your hours at your job had even started to ease up, and the two of you had more time to spend together. It wasn't until you two were having a movie night, and he looked into your eyes, filled with nothing but love and adoration for him, that he realized it.
He fucked up. Big time.
On the inside, he was panicking, but nevertheless, he found a way to keep up his ever-confident persona, pretending like nothing had ever happened. After all, he was used to living a lie, so this was nothing new to him.
Until today.
He had to tell you, and he knew it. There was no other option for him besides telling you. No lie that he could think of could fix this absolute mess that he'd created for himself. With a shaky sigh, he looked at the engagement ring on his finger, and his lips curled into a small, but sad smile. Well, Kokichi, it was time to face the truth.
With a heavy heart and a broken spirit, every step out the door felt like he was taking another step to his impending doom. All he could think about was how heartbroken you'd be after hearing the words escape his lips. He never wanted to cause you pain, and only ever loved to see a smile on your cute face. You deserved so much better than to feel bad over somebody like him.
Wait a second. What if that was the answer? Well, it still wouldn't fix what he's done, but it was the least he could do for you.
Coming home, he was instantly greeted by the familiar scent of you making his favorite meal. Just adding insult to injury, but he had to stay strong.
"Hey Kokichi! How were drinks with Shuichi and Kaede?" You called from the kitchen.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah, it was fun! But I-"
"Oh, and I bought you a couple bottles of Grape Pants, since we were all out. It's in the fridge!"
Damn it, S/O! Must you make this more difficult than it already was?!
With a scowl on his face, he walked into the kitchen. "S/O..." He said quietly to get your attention. You turned around to face him, raising an eyebrow at him. "Y-You're pathetic." The words didn't even want to leave his mouth.
Hearing his words, you chuckled nervously. "Uh, what? What are you talking about?"
You can do this, Kokichi. "I said, you're pathetic! Didn't I tell you that I would be eating with my friends? God, it's like you never listen to me!" He threw his hands up in the air dramatically.
"I-I'm sorry..." You apologized, hurt by his words. "I just wanted to do something ni-"
"Blah, blah blah! That's all you ever are is nice! Like that joke of a coworker that you always flirt with."
"Hey! I told you Kokichi, I have no interest in him. What's gotten into you?!"
"What's gotten into you is the question. Or should I say, who's gotten into you?"
Taken aback by his words, your eyes widened. You felt tears prick at your eyes. What was going on with Kokichi? Maybe he'd had one too many drinks?
"You always did get around, S/O. Tell me, when did you first start getting with them, hm? You really think I wouldn't see through your little affair?"
You didn't answer, unsure of what to say. You really hadn't done anything with them, and they were just a good friend to you. To your surprise, when you didn't answer, you felt a quick burn on your right cheek, and you looked up to see a very angry Kokichi.
"Well?! Are you gonna answer me?"
The tears started to flow down your cheeks as you held your cheek. Sure, you two of you have had your fights before, but he's never gone as far as to actually hit you!
"K-K-Kokichi..."
He scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Whatever. Who needs someone as slutty as you anyways? That's why I've went and found myself a girlfriend, one who actually treats me with respect and dignity. Sooo...bye!" He smiled cheerfully and turned around, heading towards the front door, but you promptly stopped him. He frowned, but turned back around. Come on, S/O, just say you deserve better. You can do it. I know you can.
"What the hell are you talking about?!" You hissed. "What about us?! Did any of this even mean anything to you?"
"Hmm...nope! It was all a big, tremendous LIE! Nihehehehe..."
He was laughing about it. Unbelievable. That was the final straw for you, because clearly conversing with him was a waste of time. In a fit of rage, you twisted the ring off your finger, shoving it into his chest.
"Have fun with your new girlfriend." Your words were dripping with venom. Before he could respond, you were already out the door, saying that you would collect your belongings the next day.
Kokichi looked at the ring in his hand, and sighed. He placed it onto the counter, along with his. He turned the stove off, then slowly moved to sit at the dining table. He sat in deep thought, staring at nothing but the wall. He knew he made the right choice, but deep down inside, he can't help but wonder if things could've been different.
It was too late to think about that now, anyways. He got what he wanted, and what he deserved. Next time, maybe he would take more time to think about his actions.

Tumblr media
K1-B0 (KIIBO)
★ I LOVE HIM-
★ anyway
★ Kiibo has a basic understanding of human nature, but there are things that he just.. doesn’t get
★ like.. why do you have so many cups?? don’t you need only a couple?
★ and yes, he supposes that rock shines, but why do you need it?
★ you’ll have to explain to him some of your nature, and most humans as well. he’s very interested in learning as much as he can :)
★ after he gets some of it, (which took a while), he’ll start collecting little things that remind him of you. like a crow
★ your reactions mean everything to him
★ if you have any games that require timing, i have one word for you.
★ Kiibo.
★ he can literally pass any levels you’re stuck on
★ did i mention he heats up?
★ even though he’s.. made of metal, he’s surprisingly very comfortable! however, there are times where some parts of him dig into you uncomfortably, but there are solutions :)
★ like sweaters!! and blankets
★ speaking of, i feel like Kiibo would have a love-hate relationship with winter
★ on one hand, he gets to see you in the snow, help you make a snowman, and keep you warm during the cold nights
★ but.. his body gets stuck more often.
★ and the metal gets cold quickly, and he doesn’t want you cold :(
★ but you just remind him of the sweaters and you’ve got a happy robot :)
KOREKIYO SHINGUJI
★ whenever you two go out, he always has to be touching you in someway
★ it’s never something big, and most times you don’t even notice him until later
★ more often than not, his hand finds its way to your back
★ it’s now a habit of his, to kind of lead you with that
★ if his hand isn’t at your back, i feel like it would be somewhere on your arm. like a linked arm, or he’s holding your hand so he doesn’t lose you in a crowd.
★ ok but his h a i r?
★ can i be a simp for hair
★ he definitely would let you, and only you play with his hair. like braiding it, brushing, etc.
★ i feel like he would rarely call you by your actual name, because he uses so. many. pet names.
★ “angel, could you grab that for me?”
★ “dearest, come here for a second.”
★ stuff like that smh oh to be called dearest by Kiyo
★ he’d tease you sometimes as well
★ if you’re shorter than him, he’d definitely hold things above his head so you couldn’t grab them. and if you’re taller than him, then oh boy. he’d hide stuff from you. not important things, but stuff you’d need only in that specific moment.
★ he also really likes to play with your fingers lol it helps him concentrate
★ ok but just imagine.. Kiyo in the middle of a conversation, you’re not really paying attention as you’re screwing around on your phone. suddenly, Kiyo’s soft fingers interlace between yours, giving your hand a squeeze before he begins to play with your index finger as he continues to talk. tracing the shape of it into his mind. almost like he wanted to make a copy of you.
★ he could never try to replicate you, though. you’re so perfect to him.
RANTARO AMAMI
★ TEASE KING. STEP ASIDE KOKICHI
★ Rantaro is definitely that dude that if you’re wearing a hat, he’ll pull it down over your eyes or he’ll just straight up steal it.
★ play with his hair plEASE-
★ his hair is soft, threads through your fingers rather easily, and smells like lime
★ y’all are that couple that has one’s head in their lap as they read or somethin, playing with the other’s hair.
★ he is also that dude that comes up behind you, covering your eyes with his hands as he whispers, “guess who?~”
★ Rantaro actually has pretty small hands, and they’re actually cold most of the time.
★ beware of him and his goddamn hands smh
★ he will definitely stick his hands under your shirt for “warmth” as he so says. you know that he just wants to see your reactions
★ he’s actually god at eyeliner, so if you need to wear some, he’s your guy. hey, the dude has sisters.
★ speaking of, his sisters absolutely ADORE you. usually when you go over to his house they just.. immediately snatch you for 99% of the time and Rantaro is just “😀”
★ he leaves you little doodles everywhere. like he’ll bring you a book you asked for, and like on the 120th page there’s a crow with heels and it's the funniest thing you’ve seen all day
★ he starts laughing when you bring it up, and eventually you both are just laughing so hard at it you can't breathe
★ he has so much fun when he’s with you. he can never repay you
SHUICHI SAIHARA
★ steal his hat steal his hat steal his-
★ Shuichi is flustered rather easily when it comes to you, so use that information to your advantage hehe
★ expect lots of cuddles from him, especially those back hugs. like the ones where he’ll come up behind you and wrap his arms around you, leaning his head on top of yours if you're shorter, or against your back if you’re taller.
★ he’ll let out a small sigh of content as he nuzzles into your form, trying to keep his face hidden.
★ he finds your voice so soothing, especially when you read to him? like watch this:
★ you two are working on one of his cases together. your job is reading out his notes from the scene, your voice a low murmur as he works away. you haven’t noticed that he’s just.. stopped writing, staring at his pen as he begins to play with it. scratchy handwriting is what his eyes rake over, an adoring smile plastered to his face as he just listens. eventually you notice he’s stopped. “..Shuichi?” your soft voice asks, and he jolts a bit, grasped from his daydream. “a-ah.. sorry (f/n).. continue?”
★ more often than not it's your murmurs that causes the sleep deprivation to slap him in the face and just be knocked tf out.
★ helping him with cases is one of your favorite things?? like Shuichi you’re so smart give yourself some credit?????
★ every morning he greets you with a small smile. even though he’s still really tired, he makes an effort for you :)
★ i love funky detective man smh
GONTA GOKUHARA
★ b,, baby man,,
★ if you’re terrified of bugs, he’ll try to keep his little friends away from you, he doesn’t want to scare you at all :(
★ if you don’t mind bugs/you like them, he’ll be overjoyed!!
★ he probably has a bug named after you
★ more often than not, you’ll find them in your room or on your things. usually they’re really gorgeous, he says they remind you of him that day :)
★ he tries to switch up the bugs you find each day, so it’s always a little surprise when you enter your own room
★ ask him to carry you
★ he wants to carry you.
★ pl e a se
★ Gonta is also really warm, and his hands are HUGE
★ expect so many head pats from him. he loves how small you are compared to him
★ boops from Gonta? boops from Gonta.
★ this man straight up craves your cuddles.
★ because of his body temperature and scent of pine, it’s not hard at all to fall asleep in his embrace
★ i feel like he wakes up rather early, so he gets the pleasure of watching you sleep
★ not in a creepy way! he thinks you look so.. peaceful. angelic, is more of the word.
★ he absolutely LOVES seeing you in his clothes. just the way the cloth envelopes your tiny frame, you with your adorable smile and sweater paws?
★ god he loves you sm
RYOMA HOSHI
★ when you two first got into a relationship, he rarely touched you.
★ he literally had no idea what to do
★ he lived all of his life on eggshells, scared of every coming day
★ and then you, his ray of sunshine, just came to him?
★ he’s just so lost
★ however, you knew what to do.
★ you basically taught him that no, you’re not going to disappear from his life at any given moment. you promise.
★ it took some convincing, but you got there.
★ anyway, he doesn’t show too much PDA, but he’s taken up the habit of grasping your sleeve when you two walk together
★ given the fact that you’re likely taller than him, this boy l o v e s your hugs.
★ the way you just envelope him in your loving embrace.. he feels like he doesn’t deserve it.
★ he might tell you so, but you quickly shut him up with a kiss or something :)
★ spooning spooning spooning-
★ he’s usually little spoon, but he’ll be big spoon if you want :)
★ Ryoma really likes being held by you. he feels like time stops, like all that matters is you in that moment.
★ he just feels so safe when he’s around you. he’s gotta get used to it
★ one time when you both went on a date, you accidentally found the main base of the stray cats in your town
★ they LOVED him and now you go there frequently to visit the cats
★ ya’ll definitely have a cat from there too smh you’re so cute
KOKICHI OUMA
★ at the earliest stages of your relationship, i have two words for you.
★ good luck.
★ you are not safe from Kokichi.
★ you are targeted by him.
★ anyway, i definitely feel like he would be so clingy with you.
★ he doesn’t care that you’re in public, he will latch onto you and be a nuisance.
★ holding onto your sleeve, holding your hand, latching onto your leg so you have to drag him around, full on trying to tackle you, etc.
★ p i g g y b a c k r i d e s
★ if you don’t want him to completely annoy you, just hoist him up onto your back for a ride
★ he LOVES it
★ i also feel like he wouldn’t really know what he’s doing at first.. you make him feel so many things, emotions that he thought were buried a long time ago. it’s a bit too much for him
★ patience is key with Kokichi. please just wait for him. he’ll catch up when he’s ready.
★ but when he does? and when you’ve convinced him you’re not leaving anytime soon?
★ you have the most caring and lovable man right at your side.
★ he’s.. so soft with you.
★ Kokichi absolutely adores being held by you. probably the most out of the V3 crew. he feels so secure, so sure of your relationship in those moments. he sleeps best when you’re around, which he desperately needs due the insomnia that plagues him most nights.
★ quiet cuddles are such a treasure to you. he’s usually silent during your cuddle sessions, his head either in the crook of your neck or buried in your chest, inhaling your scent so he can imprint it to his mind. it makes you more in love with him.
★ also DICE adores you-
KAITO MOMOTA
★ he is,, the biggest simp for you,,,
★ literally every single day, Kaito looks at you with the biggest grin on his face because every time he looks at you, he notices a new thing that makes him love you even more.
★ stargazing da te s✨
★ ^ these dates often end up with him going on a rant about the constellations and their movements, star types, etc. and you love him for it
★ his coat is so warm?? you wonder how he wears it 24/7
★ he absolutely LOVES it when you tackle hug him. he doesn’t even care if he was in the middle of a conversation, just feeling the sudden embrace of his s/o makes him melt.
★ those tackle hugs usually end up in him turning around and scooping you up, spinning you around before planting you back down and giving you a sweet kiss
★ PDA? he loves it
★ he NEVER would do anything that makes you uncomfortable though.
★ your PDA mostly consists of hand holding, hugs, all that soft stuff :)
★ he would definitely have to do a double take if you ever wore his jacket.
★ “hey (f/n)? where-“ and he’d just s t a r e at you, his face going ablaze in red
★ he’s like that Tamaki gif
Tumblr media
★ yeah that one ^
★ more often than not, you get piggyback rides from him
★ the gentle rock of his body as he walks, his overall warmth, his scent of lavender.. it’s perfect to lull you asleep.
★ he wouldn’t have it any other way :)

Why Jodie is so hated in DC fandom? - Analysis of an underestimated character and clarification about wrong assumptions
Preliminary remark: this post is just a personal opinion. No intention to start wars of any kind, I respect everyone’s opionion so I want my opinion to be respected too. If you don’t share it, it’s totally ok as it’s totally ok if I don’t share yours.
During these last 5 years I’ve been back into DC fandom, I notice all around the web many people spreading hate towards Jodie (not only here on Tumblr but everywhere, especially in forums and social media pages). It’s ok to not like a character, but you need valid reasons to hate it. If you hate it for bullshit, then it’s only hate based on nothing. And this is what I see everytime I read a bad comment about Jodie’s character. This is really annoying for a fan, to be honest. Now I want to point out some of the most popular reason why Jodie is hated and analyze them (maybe I have already explained my point of view about them in some other posts in the last years, but I will clarify them again).
1) “Jodie has become useless, she’s no more interesting and mysterious as she was at the beginning” You (Jodie haters) really notice this change only in Jodie’s character? Because I can mention at least other 10 characters who, at their first appearance, were described as mysterious and cool and whatever else, but now are “lying on the shelf” for Gosho’s choise. Jodie has been introduced in a mysterious way becase she was suspected to be Vermouth, so Gosho created the suspance around her character and made her act in a shifty way to make the readers believe that she could be one of the BO members. Once it has been revealed that she wasn’t bad, there were no more need to make her act in a shifty way. Many other character who were suspected to be Bo members but in the end were not have shared the same fate. But it’s Gosho’s decision, not Jodie’s fault. It’s not something related to her way of being, it’s a choise of the author.  She has become usless? Ok, let’s face the reality: who is useful among the characters? A very few. Let’s take all the FBI Team: Gosho has painted them as a bunch of idiots that without Akai can’t do nothing. To make Akai “shine” he has denigrated Jodie, James and Camel. Camel doesn’t do nothing of his own, he always wait for Akai’s orders; James is supposed to be the chief but actually he does what Akai says; Jodie seems to make mistakes everytime she did something, even if she’s doing it in the right way. But again, it’s not their fault because we have seen them doing even very good things and being brilliant, so they have potential: it’s Gosho who decided to treat them like dumbs so Akai can be like a God who will save all of us. Don’t get me wrong, I love Akai, but I hate what Gosho is doing to put him in the spotligh. Again, it’s Gosho’s fault, not the characters who suddenly became usless and not interesting. The hate should be towards Gosho, not Jodie.
2) “After Akai’s death Jodie has become so annoying, she’s weak and she’s always crying” Ok...question for you Jodie haters: if you suddenly lose someone you love, what will be your reaction? Will you laugh as you were watching a sitcom, will you organize a big party with your friends or will you start throwing confetti in the air? Because if you do one if these 3 things, then...congratulations, you have won the highest award for the most cool /stone-harted/ heartless person in this world! You have no rivals, not even Shuichi Akai who is now jealous of you!  Seriously...if the man you love so much dies suddenly, it’s LEGITIMATE to cry, to be desperate, to lose yourself. It’s like losing a part of you. But despite feeling lost, Jodie has been the only one among the FBI who never believed to Akai’s death since the beginning and she fought long and hard to find out the truth behind his death. Since when on the TV they show the incident at Rahia Pass and they say a man was dead burned in his car, she immediately thought that it wasn’t Shuichi and that he had surely used a trick to escape. Guess what? She was right! Do you still think she’s stupid?  Jodie isn’t weak, she just faced an emotional breakdown due to the loss of a person she loved. This is being human, not being weak. Jodie isn’t always crying, she cried when everything and everyone around her was making her believe that Shuichi was really dead. At a certain point she stopped crying, when she saw hope, a hint that Shu was still alive. She isn’t a crybaby, she just needed hope.
3) “Since Akai’s death, Jodie hasn’t done anything interesting or exciting, she has become boring” If you didn’t notice by yourself, then I will reveal you the biggest secret of all: after Akai’s death, or better to say after the end of Scarlet Arc when Jodie and Camel discovered about Shuichi being alive and hiding behind Subaru’s identity...FBI hasn’t appeared anymore in the manga for ages, since the last files which came our recently! How are they (included Jodie) supposed to do something exciting or interesting if they don’t even appear? Gosho put them in the closet with the naphthalene and he concentrated his attention on other characters (first of all Amuro, which in my opinion deserves more hate than Jodie because of his behaviour but somehow is adored as a God in the fandom). Then one day he get up and he had the big flash of genius: “FBI still exist in my story, so better take them out of the closet and make them do something”. But in the end, as always, only Akai did something relevant. Camel has been a puppet in the hand of Akai and Jodie made a mistake. So, again, it’s not Jodie who have changed and become a worst character, it’s how Gosho is painting her and the other FBI agents which makes them appear less interesting or capable at the eyes of the readers.
4) “Jodie has become stupid” About this I made a “funny” post long time ago, so I will put the link below. I think it’s enough to explain all:
https://placebogirl7.tumblr.com/post/156414088650/jodie-has-become-more-and-more-stupid
I will also add something that surely will unleash the wrath of somebody and maybe they will start complain, but I honestly don’t care because it’s nothing against someone in particular but just something I noticed. This is absolutely not an attempt to start a ship war nor a free criticism end in itself, because I reaspect everyone ship and opinion even if I don’t agree with that. The fact is that I noticed that often (not always of course, but often) these criticism about Jodie are moved by ShuKemi fans, and considering what I said above it seems that their hate for Jodie is just because Jodie was Akai’s girlfriend before Akemi and she has the possibility (if Gosho wants) to be his girlfriend again the future, not really because they analyzed Jodie’s character before spreading shit about it.  So I would like to point out to these ShuKemi fans who idolize Akemi’s character so much and tell shits about Jodie that Akemi sentenced herself to death with her own hands after making the worst and wrong choise she could have ever done in her life. I’ve seen many times Akemi being called “a hero” but chosing to death without obtaining nothing in return isn’t being a hero, it’s just being stupid in my opinion. Being a hero is another thing. You’re an hero if you sacrifice yourself with the goal to obtain something that worth your sacrifice, but if you sacrifice yourself knowing that you won’t obtain nothing apart from your death...well, that’s not being a hero at all. And before someone will say “You talk like this because you’re a ShuJodie fan”, please be aware that Akemi’s death has been shown before Jodie appearance and before knowing that Jodie had a relationship with Shu before he started dating Akemi, so I would have no reason to say these things just because of such trivial matters. The reason why I’ve never been touched by Akemi’s death since the beginning is because I think she has consciously chosen to die since the beginning of her “masterplan”. C’mon, how can you really think to make a deal with criminals? There’s a reason if they are criminals... She really thought that Gin would have kept his promise? If the answer is yes, then I’m sorry to say that but she’s stupid twice. So before saying that Jodie is the stupid one, at least analyze the things deeply and objectively.
Now I know that this will make someone mad but I’m sorry, it’s what I think. And not because I see Akemi as a “threat” for Jodie’s relationship with Shuichi, as I always said I don’t need to spread shit on some character to covince myself and the other that my couple is better, I really don’t need this. I love my couple and stop, the rest doesn’t matter. If I don’t like a character, there’s always a deeper motivation behind, which has nothing to do with OTPs and trivial matters like that. But before saying I don’t like a character and draw up charges on it, I always analyze the character. I’m sorry that nobody do it with Jodie.
Please also note that I used Akemi as example of character being idolized for no real reason because, as I said, I noticed that who talk shits about Jodie are often ShuKemi fans, but there are also other characters of course who are idolized when they actually have nothing to be idolized for. Another example is Amuro, I recently made a post about what I think of him.  Now if you don’t like what I think and what I said you are free to unfollow me, I’m sorry but I really needed to make this post because it has become more and more annoying to see nonsense unkindness things about Jodie.
Peace, love and Jodie Starling ♥

☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚:⠀ *⋆.*:・゚ .: ⋆*・゚: .⋆
Tumblr media
— Toga Himiko
✧ she finds it adorable tbh
✧ she is constantly telling the league how cute you are
✧ “ they’re so cute , they’re the cutest person ever ! “
✧ she only trusts Magne and Twice to meet you though , since the rest are unpredictable , per say
✧ if you want her to , she’ll treat you like a child , and she’ll gladly buy steal you plushies
✧ she’ll even give you piggy backs , if you desire
✧ overall , she’s totally 100% whipped for you
Tumblr media
— Dabi ( Toya Todoroki )
✧ 1 word ; fucking tease
✧ even though he teases you to no end , he actually likes your height
✧ it makes him feel a bit more dominant , even though he knows that you can’t top him unless if you somehow manage chain him up , good luck with that
✧ thing is , if anyone else makes fun of your height or teases you in any way , Dabi’ll react in two different ways . 1 ; he’ll give them a warning or 2 ; he’ll burn ‘em to a crisp right in front of you , or he’ll do it in private
✧ he hasn’t told the league that he has a s/o , since he’s worried that if he does something wrong , then they’d hunt you down and kill you or harm you . And he doesn’t want you to get hurt because of him , he loves you too much .
Tumblr media
— Tomura Shigaraki ( Tenko Shimura )
✧ Shigaraki isn’t the tallest for his age , so it boosts his ego to see that his s/o is shorter than him
✧ doesn’t tease you about it much , since he himself doesn’t like being teased , so he understands that it can be very annoying at times
✧ doesn’t baby you , since he feels like if he does , you’ll think that he sees you as weak . But if you want him to baby you , he will , but not as much as Toga
✧ even though he doesn’t show much PDA in public , he does show a bit in private in his room
✧ due to the fact that he didn’t have the best childhood , he doesn’t know how to show any affection really , but he tries his best !
✧ he’s lowkey a tsundere , so expect him to be a little mean to you at times , but you know that he’s just flustered , since his face usually turns entirely pink , which makes him put ‘father’ on him
Tumblr media
— Kurogiri
✧ despite the fact that most people wouldn’t see him having a s/o at all ( since he’s technically a Nomu ) , he was lucky enough to find you
✧ you love him so much , he couldn’t ask for anything more
✧ being the gentleman he is , he hardly teases you , only time he’s teased you was when you couldn’t reach him for a kiss
✧ honestly , he’s never brought you to the LoV hangout , since he knows that they could probably harm you in some way , he doesn’t want that
✧ he loves how short you are compared to him , it makes his heart flutter
✧ he’s a big softy , and he’s a father figure . If you desire him to , he will treat you like a child , he’ll even buy you plushies
Tumblr media
— Magne ( Kenji Hikiishi )
✧ she lives for the height difference
✧ this queen doesn’t make fun of your height whatsoever , literally . Granted , she will tease you now and then , but not as much as the others do
✧ she met you when you were being attacked by another villain , and she protected you ( even though she had to kill the villain in front of you , it was for good cause )
✧ ever since she protected you , you guys became very close . At first you were friends , but then you started crushing on her . So you told her , and she said that she’d gladly date you .
✧ ever since then , you guys have been an adorable couple ! Even though she’s your girlfriend , she’s somewhat your mum , since she protects you at all times 🥺
✧ this girl’s absolutely fucking whipped for you
Tumblr media
— Spinner ( Shuichi Iguchi )
✧ this boy doesn’t tease you nor does he make fun of your height , since he’s insecure and he’s been teased and made fun of by people before , and he knows that it isn’t a nice thing to go through , even if it is a joke
✧ he loves the height difference tbh , guy lives for it
✧ he loves sitting you on his lap when you guys watch movies together
✧ if you want to get plates or something that’s too high for you to reach , just yell his name and he’ll get the things for you
✧ honestly , he’s such a sweetheart
✧ bless him , he doesn’t like seeing you around the LoV , since the last time he introduced you to them ..... they almost killed you
✧ he’s 100% the big spoon , but if you desire , he’ll gladly let you be the big spoon , specially on cold nights , since due to his quirk , he gets cold very easily
Tumblr media
— Twice ( Jin Bubaigawara )
✧ he has mixed opinions on your height
✧ one of his personalities thinks that you’re too short , which he says isn’t true
✧ the other says that you’re so short that you remind him of a child
✧ and the other’s fucking whipped for you
✧ he just fucking loves you , ok ?
✧ my man won’t ever tease you or make fun of you , even though sometimes his other personalities tease and make fun of you , he doesn’t
✧ please love this man , he deserves it 🥺
✧ he loves hugging you , wether it be from behind , the front or from the side
✧ loves covering your face in kisses
✧ the height difference makes him feel like he should protect you with all his will
✧ likes being the big spoon , if you want to though , you can be the big spoon , he doesn’t really mind , as long as you’re happy , he’s happy
✧ I wanna marry this man , where can I get myself a Jin Bubaigawara ?
Tumblr media
— Mr. Compress ( Atsuhiro Sako )
✧ Sako doesn’t really care for his s/os’ height , skin tone , gender etc. As long as they’re a nice person , he’s ok with that
✧ but , he does find you very petite , per say , even if you’re not the slimmest , he still sees you as someone who’s petite
✧ he fucking loves you so much , he’ll get steal you anything , and I mean anything
✧ he’ll most likely compress the item that you want , and show you a magic trick , at the end he’ll give you the gift
✧ he loves kissing you , wether it be on the mouth , cheek , forehead or any other part of your body , he fucking lives for that shit
✧ probably introduces you to at least 1 of the league members ; most likely Kurogiri , since he can’t really trust anyone else with seeing you , since they’re extremely unpredictable at all times
✧ he likes picking you up bridal style , gives him a sense of comfort of sort , doesn’t know how to explain it , just puts him at ease
✧ will sit you in his lap whenever possible , while snuggling with you , occasionally giving you small pecks on your neck or face . If you’re facing him , he’ll maybe passionately make out with you from time to time
Tumblr media
— Giran ( Kagero Okuta )
✧ lives for the height difference
✧ you both insult/tease each other , he calls you ‘shorty , short stuff’ etc. While you call him ‘old fart , old man’ etc.
✧ fucking spoils the shit out of you , he’s stacked with money , he’s practically your sugar daddy
✧ loves sitting you on his lap during meetings or when he’s being visited by clients
✧ but if they get all touchy with you , or if they ask to many questions , he’s gonna shoot ‘em
✧ loves being the big spoon , doesn’t like being the little spoon , cause it makes him feel vulnerable , and he hates feeling vulnerable , like , Bakugo hates Midoriya hate
✧ your height makes him feel more dominant and in control , but he won’t take advantage of that . He may seem like a sadistic bastard , but he’s not entirely a sadist , only at certain times or in certain situations
✧ he likes giving you piggy back rides , he also likes it when you sit in his lap and you fall asleep , he finds it adorable tbh
✧ if someone teases you or makes fun of you for your height ...... this man’ll either send an assassin on them , or he’ll simply kill ‘em himself , without you knowing , of course , he doesn’t wanna frighten you away

(I did read the rules. I was just worried about if it was ok) Can I request the V3 guys and their fem!SO ending up in a "couple in distress" type situation? Please?
It's okay with the rules and I hope I got it right. I didn't write either bad or happy ending cuz I think that everyone themselves should think how they whould want this to end
Tumblr media
V3 boys and their fem!S/O ending up in a couple in distress type of situation
Ryoma Hoshi
He was allways hiding his emotions from you and yet you hoped that this whouldn't happen.
You allways tried your best to help him and he never even wanted to accept your help... Wich made you end up in this exact situation.
He tried to apologize he tried to change but he couldn't bring himself to do it. Face everything that is holding him back.
At this point he knew that he may lose you. He didn't wanted this to happen... But it might be for the better.
He needed to prove himself and think for himself if he deserved a happy ending with you after all.
Gonta Gokuhara
As much as you love him sometimes you feel like he wasn't exactly ready for relationship.
He was a good boyfriend but you felt like he was well... Fake from time to time.
It was definitely in good intentions but when he tried too much he wasn't acting like the man you fell for.
K1B0
He didn't understand love too well and was confused. He tried his best and you knew that. But the problem was that he didn't understand you like he used to when you were just friends.
It hurt you deeply how sometimes he looked at you like you weren't yourself when you finally were just that.
You didn't bottle up the problem and he was trying even harder but it just brought both of you more stress and anxiety.
So he suggested you spend some time apart. He quickly regretted it because he missed you but he still couldn't understand why he let all of this happen...
Kaito Momota
He was often ignorant. Not intentionally but he just never seemed to think that your problems were a big deal.
He of course helped you but it just sometimes felt like he didn't take your negative feelings seriously.
Kaito was allways inspirational and all so it might be just the way he was but sometimes you could tell that he thought you were just whining about something unimportant.
You weren't sure how you could possibly start a conversation about this.
Shuichi Saihara
You often saw him lost in thought that's what he was allways like. But it also made you feel like he was allways just thinking and often even ignoring you.
When you told him about your emotions he didn't knew how to respond. You got him to open up earlier and now you feel like he is closing again.
Both of you tried to change the way things are but sometimes you need a small break before you try again.
Rantaro Amami
He was allways up to something and often had little to none time for you.
Whenever he did he made every second count but it just made you miss him even more.
You knew that he was worried about his family and you tried to help him too. But sometimes you think that you just slow him down.
He knew that something was wrong and he listened to you. He understood your point but he just couldn't abandon what he was trying to do. You also understood that but the atmosphere around you two was akward for the time being.
Kokichi Ouma
Constant lies made you often wonder if you could trust him even after all this time.
The worst part was that he didn't seem to take it seriously. He only started trying when you ignored him.
Kokichi is Kokichi and nobody could change it and you were okay with his wicked ways, but you won't let him constantly lie to you.
So you had to admit that you stopped trusting him. Between you two there was very akward atmosphere.
Korekiyo Shinguji
He was allways hiding something from you. It had something to do with his past but he refused to say even a word.
You understood that he might not want to share it but you think of it like he doesn't want to trust you.
However in his mind there was only guilt. When you first met he wanted to kill you so he couldn't possibly say this. No matter how he whould say it you whouldn't understand.
So the two of you became distant for a while. How long will it last? Does your relationship survive this? Only you can know the answer.

Maybe some headcannons of Spinner with an s/o who’s personality is basically ‘looks like a cinnamon roll, can actually kill you’ - his s/o and him could be walking along in civilian wear, then someone could make a comment on Spinner’s appearance, and his sweet lil a/o goes from 0 to 100 REAL fast
~Baby Bites~
Tumblr media

Shuichi always saw you as ‘baby’. No matter your appearance, style, height, age, gender, sexuality, or skin color. What made you ‘baby’ in his eyes was the way you carried yourself around him. Those cute (e/c) eyes that sparkled in interest whenever he came home with a surprise for you. That soft (s/c) skin of yours that he felt guilty about touching with his rugged hands. The cute way you smile at him after he’s had a particularly rough day at work. Yes you were baby in every sense (not in some weird fetishist way, thank God). Now that left behind the obvious room for insecurities on his end. It took you a good long time to break him from that. When I say good long time, I mean it took 2 years to finally help Spinner gain some ounce of confidence in himself. It wasn’t easy, and you can’t erase years of species related discrimination from his mind, but you did your best. When it finally got better, you were rewarded with more outdoor dates and more of him actually wearing clothes he liked. Finally best of all, he stopped avoiding taking pictures with you. He was finally loving himself, and that is something he most importantly deserves above all.
“Shuichi, what time is it?” You called out from the bathroom of your shared apartment. There was a moment of quiet before you heard him call back out to you. “It’s 2:15, why?” You smiled and continued drying off while leaving no answer. Spinner figured you didn’t hear him so he continued playing games. Moments later after you finished changing into fresh clothes, you came up behind him in the living room where he was currently chilling on the carpet (far too close to the TV might I add). You dropped 2 pieces of paper down in front of him and watched with a smile as he picked them up and read them. Then he quickly turned around with a huge smile. “Is this for real???” You nodded and he pulled you down into a tight hug. The pieces of paper were tickets to the new aquarium that you two had been waiting on to open since last year. Finally with it newly opened up, you made sure to stay up almost all night just to reserve tickets before they sold out.
“You didn’t have to do all this for me, yknow. I mean, I don’t deserve all of this.” You quickly shushed him as you guys looked for a good parking spot. “C’mon Shu, didn’t we talk about this? You know better than to say you don’t deserve something. What’s the confident way to say it?” He chuckled and pulled into an empty spot. “I mean, you didn’t have to do all this for me...but I appreciate it very much. Thank you.” You nodded with a big smile and both of you got out of the car to stand in the outrageously long line. To pass the time, you started small talk with him about chores around the house, and what you guys would have for dinner tonight. Suddenly a random man bumped past you and laughed to himself as he cut in line in front of you. You heard him say to himself “No way in hell I’d date a reptilian freak like that if I were that good looking of a woman/man/person.” Spinner heard him and sighed a bit but chose to ignore it. You on the other hand...
“Excuse me, what the fuck did you just say?” The guy turned to look at you and scoffed. Spinner put his hands gently on your shoulder and shook his head. “C’mon y/n, he’s not worth it. Just leave it alone baby.” You gently brushed Spinner off and stepped closer to the man. “Listen asshole, you better scoot before you crawl, and crawl before you walk, and walk before you ever think about stepping out of your front door and insulting someone’s appearance. Especially with the way your gene pool must look. Now get the fuck out of here before your family starts wearing your face on a memorial T-shirt.” Surely enough the guy scoffed and left the line with a few nearby people snickering under their breath as he walked by. “Baby, you didn’t have to do all that stuff for me. He didn’t hurt my feeling or anything because I’ve learned my self worth now.” You rolled your eyes at Spinner and grabbed his hand to kiss the back of it. “That wasn’t for you, it was for me. NOBODY insults my Shuichi and gets away with it. Now let’s go! The line is moving forward and we’re just a few steps closer to seeing the jellyfish!”

Angst
Knowing that it was Kokichi's body in there seemed so much more painful than if it had been Kaito. He died as he lived, confusing, lying, leaving everybody with a burning hatred.
Shuichi bit at the insides of his cheeks to quell the tears building up in his eyes. It wasn't fair, he deserved at least some closure on Kokichi's actions.
Nobody deserved such a painful death, not even him.
AU (in which Kokichi wasn't given the memories he was meant to be nor was his mind wiped)
Click
"W-why did you lock the door?"
"Hush Shuichi.” Kokichi spoke quickly, spinning around and poking Shuichi hard in the chest. “Now tell me, you're suspicious of your 'Ultimate Detective' status, right?"
He flinched, surprised by the sudden touch. "...Do you want me to hush or answer the question?"
Kokichi pouted dramatically. "THE QUESTION!!"
"Okay um… I guess? Like, I only solved a single case..."
"Right! But you don't remember how you got here?"
"N-no I don't..."
Groaning loudly, Kokichi’s hands threaded into his hair as he began to ruffle it angrily. "Fuck me, this sucks!"
Shuichi watched the other boy closely as he continued his temper tantrum, angrily stomping across the room and beginning to shuffle through the mounds of paraphernalia in his room. There was evidence from the two previous trials, a whiteboard, large stacks of paper and other… things.
"Aha!" He yelled excitedly as he pulled out a brightly coloured tablet from underneath some stuff stolen from the warehouse. He slapped the device into Shuichi's hands aggressively.
In his shock, Shuichi blinked a few times. "Is this a kubs pad...?"
"Yes." Kokichi nodded once.
"So this is..."
"My motive video, yes."
"I don't think we should-"
Before Shuichi had even finished his sentence, Kokichi had leaned over his shoulder and tapped the screen, bringing the video to life.
"Alright! Back by popular demand, it's time for the motive video! Who's the most important person in *your* life? And now, without further ado…
Kokichi Ouma, the Ultimate Supreme Leader…
He caused mayhem the world over as the leader of the secret organisation, D.I.C.E. And by 'mayhem,' I mean petty nonviolent crimes and harmless pranks.
Anyway, Kokichi had ten loyal goons working for him. These goons were like friends and family… The most important people in his life…"
"See all these guys? I don't know any of 'em! I didn't run some secret organisation, I used to just harass stupid idiots on the internet!" Kokichi muttered away, words spat with frustration as he yanked the tablet from Shuichi's hands. "I don't have those memories like the rest of you do!"
"So you're…not the Ultimate Supreme Leader?"
"No! That's what I'm saying!"
"Then why do you act like that…?"
"Well I'm sure if the mastermind realised I knew they'd kill me in a heartbeat!" With a sigh, Kokichi threw himself onto his bed. "Jesus what kind of guy does awful things and then follows it up with 'That's just what an Ultimate Supreme Leader does!'? I was dropping hints to you the whole time! You really aren't an Ultimate Detective, huh?"
Shuichi didn't know what to say. He simply stood there, mouth hanging agape as he watched the boy spill his secrets.
A scary realisation gripped at his heart, and he twisted his head around to look to the corner of the room. "B-But what about-"
"I busted all the cameras in the room the night we got here.” Kokichi muttered casually, crossing one leg over the other and twirling a strand of hair in his hand. “Doesn't seem like Monokuma's noticed yet."
Right right. That's logical. Shuichi took a moment to process the new information in his mind.
"So this, our memories, our talents, everything. It's all fake?" He brought his hand to his mouth, mumbling to words behind his fingers. "What Kaede died for… isn't even real?"
"Right on bucko!” A snigger slipped past Kokichi’s lips as he grinned bitterly. “This shit's all fabricated by somebody who was dumb enough to forget to plant those fake memories in my brain and wipe the real ones!"
Shuichi's chest tightened. He could feel some sinking feeling in his gut, twisting and winding its way up to strangle his windpipe, threatening to make him break down in tears right there. He swallowed the feeling down, transforming his sadness into a burning anger. "W-why didn't you say something earlier… before everybody died?"
"Again, I didn't want to inform the mastermind. The only people trustworthy enough were Rantaro and maaaybee you. I really just took a punt when it came to telling you, which was pretty risky especially since it was your girlfriend who clocked the only person I could trust." Kokichi sighed again, glancing up at the ceiling.
Biting hard into his lip, Shuichi found himself running out of words to say that didn't involve screaming at the boy. "So, what now then?"
Kokichi smiled sadly. "I don't know. I really don't know. "
Crack
"Focus focus… what turned the handle of the sliding lock?"
Shuichi muttered to himself as he pressed his foot down on the accelerator, speeding up in preparation of hitting the wOuman representing the correct answer.
He had driven this taxi quite a few times now and was getting used to it. The neon lights, the oversaturated sunset, those massive billboards.
Thunk
Ah, yes the killer used the Katana…
As he was headed out of the city, he began to realise that he really couldn't tell what was on those billboards. Driving at 100km/h makes it hard to see anything but the road ahead.
He lifted his foot from the pedal slightly, allowing himself to get a better look at whatever nonsense was being displayed there.
Above Shuichi was a large picture of Kokichi Ouma, dressed not in his usual 'attire' if you can even call it that, but rather a frilly pink apron.
A frilly pink apron and nothing else.
Shuichi floored it. Ignoring the sensation of his heart beating out of his chest.
"No wonder I'm meant to drive so fast… gay thoughts can't travel at such high speeds…"
Future
"Heeeey Shuichi! You're lookin pretty depressive."
Shuichi ignored the teasing voice.
"Heeeeeeeey." Kokichi plopped himself down on the desk where Shuichi had been working, making it impossible for him to focus on the work in front of him and ignore the boy.
Shuichi sat back in his chair, remaining completely silent.
"Why are you ignoring me? I thought you loved me, Shu?"
Gritting his teeth, Shuichi slapped his hands over his ears. A mixture of rage and sadness boiled up inside his chest causing tears to prick at the corners of his eyes.
"Shut up! SHUT UP! YOU'RE DEAD!"
He shook his head aggressively. When he finally opened his eyes again, Kokichi was no longer there to start back at him sadly, like he were something pathetic.
 First time
A sight Shuichi had never expected to see greeted him upon entering the classroom.
A shorter man with purple hair and a strange white getup had a robotic looking boy pinned down against a desk, their hips pressed closely together. Just what had he walked in on?
"So you do have a dick?" The shorter boy grinned mischievously
"Yes-! No-!” The robotic boy refuted, struggling to push the other off “Please just let go of me!"
The purple haired boy seemed to become aware of Shuichi's presence in the room. He twisted his head around in a creepy owl-like way to glance at him, before letting go of the robot boy with a big grin.
"Well hello there! I don't believe we've met!" The boy scurried over to Shuichi, grabbing his hand and giving it a firm, quick shake. "Kokichi Ouma, Ultimate Supreme Leader! It's lovely to make your acquaintance."
Shuichi stepped back a little, surprised by the sudden change in personality. "Oh, um… Shuichi Saihara.... Ultimate Detective."
Kokichi’s expression changed suddenly, leaving him looking rather surprised. "Oh? A detective? I'm sure we're not going to get along, but I look forward to seeing more of you!"
"R-right..." Shuichi stammered, mind still reeling from the quick succession of events.
Humour
This scene was one Shuichi had… not been expecting.
He wanted to have a more extensive look around his lab, especially with what sort of dangerous stuff was in there. Maybe find a way to lock all that poison away so nobody could access it?
But his plans had come to a halt. There was something wrapped up in a blanket sitting in front of the fireplace.
Somebody was in his lab.
Shuichi stepped into the room quietly, it seemed whoever was there hadn't noticed his presence. Thank god they'd left the door slightly ajar…
He picked up the sand timer from the coffee table. It was quite weighty and could definitely do some damage if struck with a strong enough force. Gripping the metal tightly, he began to lightly stalk his way over, careful to not startle the intruder as he made his way closer.
The detective's heart was racing. Who would even be in his lab? Surely nobody was stupid enough to stir trou-
It's Kokichi, isn't it?
This only made things worse. Should he be scared or angry? Was Kokichi going to attack him? Did Kokichi already know he was there? Did he plan to try and poison somebody?!
Possibilities were beginning to pile up in Shuichi's mind, exacerbating his anxiety. Panic was beginning to set in as the boy raised the sand timer above his head, fully prepared to strike.
Snooore
Shuichi froze. Was Kokichi…asleep?
He lowered the sandtimer, still keeping a firm grip as he crept closer to the fireplace in order to get a better look at Kokichi.
His suspicions were confirmed. The boy was sat cross legged in front of the fire with a book in his lap. Drool was leaking from his open mouth as he snored softly away, completely oblivious to the blood dripping down his forehead.
Ehh?! Blood?!
Shuichi gasped loudly, perhaps a little too loud as Kokichi startled awake.
The Supreme Leader glanced towards Shuichi, then to the object in his hand. "Oh, Shuichi! Finally come to beat my head in huh? I'm surprised it took ya this long!"
Fluff (continuation of humour)
"Wh-what?! No!" Shuichi stood with his mouth hanging open for a moment before tossing the sandtimer aside. "Wh-why are you in my lab?"
"Huh? Isn't it obvious?"
"...reading?"
Kokichi sighed, flexing his fingers in an odd yet overwhelmingly gay gesture. "No, are you stupid? Geez, I thought you cared about me."
Before Shuichi could question what he was rambling on about, Kokichi wiped a little bit of blood away from his eyebrow.
"Oh, right. Did the wound re-open?" Kneeling down next to him, Shuichi eyed the rivulets of blood shining on his forehead. They were beginning to dry and flake, but the wound still looked wet.
"Mm, yeah, it's not a big deal though. I wanted to see if there was any medicine in here that would help the blood clot faster, but alas, only poison. I mean, what kind of fake school is this if it doesn't have a nurses office?" Kokichi murmured the last sentence barely loud enough for the other to hear.
"Sorry, I think there's a first aid kit in here though.” Rising to his feet, Shuichi walked over to the poison’s cupboard, beginning to search the room starting with where he was pretty sure he last saw it. “Let me have a look."
Kokichi went to object, but swallowed it before he could get the words out. He was pretty sure if he tried to stand up again, he would go down like a sack of bricks.
"Ah! Here it is." Shuichi exclaimed, perhaps a little too excited with his successful search. He picked up the small box, scurrying over to where Kokichi sat before kneeling down in front of him. The box was opened with a click, and Shuichi opened the lid. Inside were numerous bandaids, gauzes, swabs, etc. It was a pretty standard kit, which was surprising, considering the fact it were surrounded by poisons.
He reached for the bottle of alcohol, something to help clean the wound to prevent possible infection. Kokichi seemed like the type to be negligent with a wound, so of course he had to do it for him. He then grabbed a small cotton gauze, placing it to the side as he twisted open the lid of the bottle.
Kokichi observed closely as he placed the gauze over the lid, tipping the bottle upside down so the alcohol soaked into the gauze. He was surprised but just how experienced Shuichi seemed to be with this kind of thing.
“Wow Shuichi, you seem to be a reeeeal expert at this stuff! Maybe they should re-title you ‘Ultimate Nurse!’” He mocked, laughing a little as Shuichi glared up at him.
“Basic First-Aid training is a requirement for being out in the field.” Shuichi muttered, putting the bottle down and raising the gauze to Kokichi’s head. “This will sting a little.”
He thread his hand into the purple bangs, pulling them back to get a clear access to the wound. Shuichi had no qualms with hurting Kokichi, however, as he was not very gentle as he wiped the gauze over the gash in his head.
Kokichi squirmed in pain, gripping the blanket tightly in his hands as he whined. “Ow ow ow ow!! Stop it Shu!!!”
A warmth was rising in his cheeks, probably all that blood returning to his head. Shuichi’s fingers were cold against this scalp, it was embarrassing, humiliating. Why did he have to baby him like this? Especially when he had been so adamant about rejecting Kokichi in the past.
“It doesn’t hurt that much, you’re being a baby.”
“You’re so mean Shuichi.” Sticking out his bottom lip, Kokichi pouted dramatically.
Shuichi did take the effort to make his touches a little more gentle, only because he didn’t want to listen to Kokichi’s whines, of course.
When all the dried blood had been cleaned off, he tossed the bloodied gauze into the trash can. He scrounged around in the box a little, seeking an appropriately sized bandage that he wouldn't have to cut down. When he found one, he held it up, checking to see if it fit.
For a second, Shuichi found himself staring. Kokichi looked nice with his hair up, showing off those pretty purple eyes and surprisingly dark lashes.
Then he reminded himself of the awful things Kokichi had done. Throwing Gonta under the bus, laughing in the face of his death.
Shuichi pressed the bandage to Kokichi’s forehead, sticking it carefully over the wound. “Even though I helped you, I don’t forgive you. I need you to know that I still think you’re a terrible person, Kokichi.”
Kokichi’s heart sank a little. “Nobody asked you to! I don’t want your forgiveness.”
He slapped Shuichi’s hand away, rising to his feet quickly. He blinked back the lightheadedness, steadying himself before walking to the door.
With a shaking hand, he opened the door. He opened it halfway, before pausing.
“...Thank you.”
The door slammed behind him, leaving Shuichi alone in the room, surrounded by First-Aid equipment.
Hurt/Comfort
The doorbell rang, the sound reverberating around Shuichi's tiny room. It was probably Kaito finally coming for training tonight.
Though… Shuichi glanced up at the clock quickly. It was kind of late for that…
With a sigh, he got up from his bed, springs creaking beneath his shifting weight.
He opened the door, only to find an empty corridor with nobody there. Strange… who on earth would have the audacity to play a prank after such a horrific trial? It could only be one person.
"Kokichi…?"
A soft gasp could be heard from down the hall. Shuichi leaned out of the doorway, spying Kokichi awkwardly escaping down the stairs.
"Haha!" He laughed. "Guess who just got ding-dong-ditched! As if I'd be coming to seek advice from you so late at night!"
Shuichi narrowed his eyes, preparing to growl out an insult to Kokichi, something about being so insensitive after three people had died. He hesitated, however, upon noticing the watery gleam in those purple eyes.
The detective sighed and held his door open with one hand. "Come in, Kokichi."
Kokichi's mouth gaped at the sudden invitation. He wasn't going to let it pass, and dashed towards Shuichi before throwing his arms around the boy's waist and squeezing him tightly.
"I… don't want to do this anymore..." Kokichi mumbled, burying his face into Shuichi's shirt.
The other boy flinched at the sudden touch, something that was incredibly out of character for Kokichi. There seemed to be no threat, though, so he dropped his guard with a sigh.
Shuichi carefully placed a hand on Kokichi's head, petting him gently. "I know..."
Smut
"Ohh! Who would have thought that you were skilled in more areas than investigating? Isn't this a little illegal though? Sticking your dick in a suspect?"
'Is anything technically illegal if it's a dream?' Shuichi wondered as he stepped one leg at a time out of his slacks.
"Hey! Keep on the task at hand, pretty boy." Kokichi snapped, clicking his fingers in front of Shuichi's face.
"A-ah right. Sorry..."
Unresolved Sexual Tension
"So when faced with a problem you don't understand, you resort to violence, Shuichi? You're such a brute, just like Kaito."
"Shut up! There's just no logic with you! Why do you even keep doing this?!"
Kokichi refused to break eye contact for even a second. The boy pressing him against the wall dug his fingers even harder into his shoulders, stabbing into the skin below painfully.
"Do you feel nothing?! Isn't there even a single shred of empathy left in you?!"
"Shuichi." Kokichi smirked. "It's been incredibly cute watching you play detective, but unfortunately I don't think your blind luck will help you any longer."
The shorter boy shoved Shuichi off with a strength he hadn't shown before, leaving the detective stunned and a little shaken.
As Kokichi walked back to the trial room's elevator, Shuichi caught himself staring in awe.
"...cute?"

what are your honest thought about your muse’s canon? [all your dr canons :3 ]
the source!! (accepting!!)
all of my dr canons???? holy shit here we go
starting with our favorite ultimate musician ibuki: first off???? we all know how i feel about ibuki. she’s my absolute favorite sdr2 character, and i’m about 99.9% sure she’s my favorite danganronpa character overall. but of course, i have a few criticisms. not about her specifically, i don’t think, i think she’s fine, but like... how the game handled her??? okay so i’ve seen a lot of criticism online about her (and this is probably my own fault for going to the danganronpa subreddit), saying that she’s annoying, she adds nothing to the story, there’s no reason for her existence, etc. and honestly that isn’t a problem that’s specific to ibuki. it’s made pretty clear if you really look at it that she only exists to end up dead, which i think is a real problem with the writing of the series overall. and since all my muses end up dead in some form here, that’s a common criticism that i’m going to point out right here right now and never again in this post. but ibuki herself suffers from that she’s incredibly surface-level with only a deeper side underneath if you choose to pursue it. and like. obviously i’m not asking for her to be the deepest character in the lore, that’s not what she is, and obviously she’s... not written to be the smartest character at all, but i wish they had done her a little differently, and not hidden all her insightfulness in free time events. because. she’s smart. she doesn’t see herself as smart, but she is. and i wish they’d shown that more. and honestly??? you are telling me that she is the ultimate musician, yet nobody in her class likes her music?! that many people in there and not a single soul actually likes it??? chunsoft you’re fuckin’ playing with me here and i don’t like it. come on. make up your damn minds. ffs.
also why’d she have to die that’s some bullshit. she was cool af and i’m still salt about it.
this is going to get long and ridiculous bc i have so many of them so i’m hiding the rest under a cut.
next up is sakura!!! i actually think sakura was done quite well, honestly. granted, it was the first game, so i don’t think any of us saw the twist with her coming, but it was done really well! and her eventual death definitely suited her character. i never thought she’d be one to kill anyone, and i was glad that i was proven right, even though i was really upset with her death (just like i was with just about every other one lmao). from a meta standpoint, i really like how they took the tough-girl-who-even-looks-”manly” thing and sorta turned it on its head a bit (like, i’m not going to lie, i legit thought she was a guy at first who just happened to be wearing a girl’s school uniform and i think just about everyone does). her relationship with hina that built over the course of the game was something that was needed for her, imo, as it helps us as players sort of humanize her a bit and not just see her as this massive devastating block of muscle. i like how they managed to portray that even if she’s stoic as fuck on the outside, she really cares about everyone in her class, and that’s just shown by her death itself. they even managed to convey a sort of degree of softness with her, as shown by her relationship with hina and how hina was just about the only one that wasn’t initially scared shitless of her. idk man dr1 really did its characterization really well for danganronpa and they never really got that right again, did they? it’s a shame, really.
next up is our favorite bitch. junko enoshima. dear. god. i love her so much, and i love to hate her so much. the way she acts, the way she uses mukuro for her own gain, the way she switches personalities on the drop of a hat, the way she pretty much thought all this shit up on her own (with mukuro as well i’m assuming but let’s be real here it was honestly all her)... she’s a fucking unapologetic bastard and we love her for it. honestly i always look forward to playing a danganronpa game i haven’t already played because i’m dying to see how they’re shoehorning her in. because. it’s not dr without her. i’m sorry. it’s just not. sometimes villains are villains just because. they don’t have to have a deep backstory as to why they’re the way they are, and junko is a wonderful example of that. i love her. i’m biased. i love her sm.
next is miu. oh, dear, sweet miu. she’s the fanservicey character who makes things sometimes. that’s it. there’s one of these in every game. and you know what? having a fanservicey character is fine. to me, anyway. you do you, guys. but honestly i find miu kind of insulting in a way. no, not because she’s vulgar as fuck; guys, i am vulgar as fuck, especially after having a couple drinks, okay, i can sympathize in a way with her. no, what i’m insulted by is that they had the audacity to make her the ultimate inventor, and then fuckin’ reduce her to swearing, sex jokes, and vulgarity. like. inventors are smart as fuck. ya kinda need to be in order to invent things, right? especially doing it as consistently as she does. i mean, fuck, she provided whole things for the plot, for fuck’s sake. and they still reduce her to a dumb blonde who’s obsessed with kiibo and sexual innuendos. come on. do better. let’s go. she can still keep her vulgar tendencies, just.... god, i don’t even know how to fix her, but i hate her characterization even though overall i still like her quite a lot. learn to write women, you fucks; how did you get it more right in dr1 than in v3. and we’re not gonna even talk about the canonical ending because i see that differently than most people and it has nothing to do with what i’m talking about, which is what we see in 95% of the game.
next: our favorite bug boy gonta. it should be no secret that i love gonta. i love him. so much. the only character that is second to my love for gonta is korekiyo. i love korekiyo so much too. but this isn’t about him. it’s about gonta. again, we are bending the trope of big-character-is-terrifying and i really appreciate that in gonta’s case. like with sakura. ahaha. what can i say, i’m really weak for that sort of thing, i guess. but he suffers from the same shallowness that miu and even ibuki does. they tried to give him some more depth, but i don’t think it really worked. and like. come on. a guy who was raised by wolves for years and doesn’t really know how to interact with people now being in a killing game with a bunch of them???? shit, there’s so much you can do with that!! but no. we didn’t go there. much like we didn’t go there for everyone who wasn’t shuichi, kaito, maki, or kokichi. (ok shuichi gets a pass but you know.) idk man it’s probably because i didn’t do everyone’s free time events because there’s literally no way to do so, but i’m kind of salty about how v3 just treated its characters. all of them have potential. it just wasn’t reached. at all. unless it was the main four. they all deserve better.
lastly, we have mikan. and boy. do i have a lot to say about mikan. so, going into this, i want to say that i am an abuse victim. there, it’s out in the open. so, knowing that... some stuff about her makes sense. especially when you consider that she, too, is an abuse victim. and others. just. do not. she deserved better. she deserved so much better. and what made me the most incensed about this is her goddamn anniversary outfit. they only saw and used mikan as fanservice. why would you use an abuse victim as fucking fanservice i’m gonna fuckin’ riot. like. she’s traumatized as fuck. her despair disease shit makes a lot of sense, don’t get me wrong. it’s suitable for her that things happened the way they did with that. but for fuck’s sake. “oh haha look at that mikan fell again, face down ass up that’s the way she likes to--” stop. she deserves better. i’m mad about it. it’s not funny. stop doing mikan so fuckin’ dirty, you assholes. i’m taking her and i’m making her better. so fuck you.
anyway that’s it :3 i’m sorry this turned out to be so long aslkdjfal. i hope i answered the question sufficiently enough :333

I truly hope you enjoyed this as much as I did making it.
I'll confess that I woke up this morning at 5 a.m. after a nightmare and this plot came to me and I had to write it immediately. I've never felt a surge of creation that strong but here it is!
All comments, critiques and praises are welcome!
If you don’t like AO3, here’s the story under the cut! I wouldn’t normally do this but it’s short enough that I think it can be enjoyed on Tumblr as well.
Kaede gently tiptoed around the small obstacles that lined her path as she made her way to the hangar. The door had been broken at some point, and she easily slipped past it into the large sci-fi corridor. Her hands brushed against the wall as she kept walking, making a whispering, almost musical noise that only her ears could hear, but stopped once she got to the big, open electrical door.
Inside she saw four Exisals that looked like they were dinged up, a bathroom door that was wide open, and, most importantly, a hydraulic press that was completely shut, never to be turned on again.
It didn’t take long for her to spot the purple figure sitting right beside the damaged sleeve that stuck out of the closed machine. His knees were up towards his chest, his arms resting on them, and his head was buried.
Kokichi wasn’t crying, no. That would be too out of character for him right now. No matter how hard he wanted to, no matter how much he wanted to scream and throw a fit, he couldn’t cry, not real tears.
When Kaede made her way over and sat next to him, he lifted his head up. If he had been surprised by her quiet entrance, he said nothing about it.
They made eye contact. Pink and purple eyes that once sparkled with life, determination, hope, now dulled over and almost grayed. It took mere seconds for that eye contact to end as he turned away from her and stared at the ground instead.
“Do you want to watch them leave?” Kaede murmured. There was sympathy in her voice, almost like a soothing melody, but also pain. Unlike Kokichi, she could cry and despite her best efforts she could feel her emotions rising.
He lifted his head once again to look at her and when he saw the expression she was making he flashed a soft smile and nodded. Slowly, he stood up clumsily, not used to his legs, and she held his hand to stable him. That’s what she told herself anyway, but they both knew she needed the emotional support just as much as he did.
They walked, hand in hand, towards the courtyard. Each step was brisk but methodical, making sure that neither of them tripped or got left behind.
Once they were right outside of the dorm rooms they once resided in, Kokichi looked up, released Kaede’s hand to tug on her sleeve, and pointed right at the sky. It took her a moment to notice Keebo flying, but it was all to soon before his attacks started firing.
Neither of them acted with fear or anxiety. They remained rather emotionless as they watched the school get destroyed. Suddenly, they noticed a woman standing at the entrance, holding the hand of the dreaded monochrome bear.
She was waving at three people with a warm smile upon her face, but it seemed as though she were looking through them, at someone even more important. However, neither Kokichi nor Kaede noticed anyone else around. Both had believed that upon seeing her they would be livid, furious, even hurt. Still, they felt nothing.
And that was the last they saw of her as Keebo shot another laser, releasing a boulder that crushed Tsumugi, their previous friend and classmate, to death.
Then, the robot flew. He flew into the dome that surrounded the school that had once kept sixteen students trapped inside. He exploded beautifully, sacrificing himself for the sake of the people he loved, and gave them a way to escape.
Once the wind had calmed down and the courtyard had been completely destroyed, the same three people that had been waved at earlier emerged from a pile of rubble. They had some scratches and maybe some bruises, but ultimately, they were unscathed.
It took a few minutes for them to regain their composure and understand the situation, but once they did, they looked to the newfound hole in the sky.
Kaede turned to her side, ready to suggest they go say goodbye, but Kokichi was already gone. He was sprinting as fast as he could, not caring if he tripped along the way.
He crashed into the back of the blue-haired survivor, wrapping his arms tightly around the other man’s lower chest. It was the first time Kokichi had smiled in days as he started to cry into the soft striped outfit. The mastermind was dead, his character didn’t matter, he could cry all he wanted.
The man being hugged jumped. He couldn’t quite tell what he was feeling, but he knew it was an embrace of some sort. He wrapped his own arms around the ones gripping him and could’ve sworn that he even felt a little warmth that wasn’t there before.
Even though he knew what he’d find, he still looked down.
And saw nothing there.
Just his own hands constricting himself, but he felt it, he was still feeling it.
He was a detective, a damn good one, and he knew, he knew, he knew.
The height, the crashing feeling, this warmth. He knew.
“Kokichi…” He said out loud, his voice chocking back a sob of his own. He felt something nuzzle him softly right below the back of his neck and tears started to flow from his golden eyes.
He didn’t care that this brought on the attention of the other two people around him. Shuichi was crying, furiously gripping where he felt the hands around his shirt, “Kokichi, I did it! I-I stopped the game! I-“
Then, he heard the two women near him shuffle. Both, just like him, had held themselves, but there was no one around them.
Himiko was silently sobbing; her tears endlessly falling to the ground. She had both of her hands on her shoulders gripping them tightly and he heard her say, “I don’t want to let either of you go. Not again!”
On the other side was Maki. If this had happened during their school life, maybe she would’ve been more composed, but right now her face was as red as her tear-soaked shirt. Both of her hands were tightly latched onto one of her cheeks, and she looked in front of her with wide, sad eyes at no one.
Suddenly, Shuichi felt two incredibly soft hands touch his face. He released one of his own hands to touch his right cheek, holding the warmth he felt there tenderly. He kept his other hand glued to the arms he still felt holding him.
All he saw in front of him was the cracked shield, but he would never forget these hands he had held once before. His sobs became harder. It had been so long.
“Kaede!? I… I-I missed you.” He was barely audible between his frantic breathing, “You never k-killed anyone, Kaede. W-Were you watching? You… d-didn’t deserve this. You...”
He was completely uncomposed, bumbling, “Both of you. Both of you tried so hard. A-And I couldn’t save… I couldn’t save either of you…”
Suddenly he felt the lightest press of lips to his forehead then release, despite the scenery before him remaining unchanged.
“B-Because of you, Kaede, we were able to win! You found the mastermind! W-We… We were able to stop Team Danganronpa! You saved us! You saved me!” He was practically yelling. Himiko and Maki were screaming their own words to what seemed to be themselves.
He choked up and he cried his hardest as he realized he wanted to say more, “And Kokichi… K-Kokichi… you’re not alone! I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! I’m right here… I… I want to play more games… I want you to lie to me… I should’ve… I s-should’ve known you weren’t…”
He couldn’t talk anymore through the sobs.
The hands on his face quickly became arms wrapped around his shoulders. He started to calm down when his body, front and back, felt embraced by warm, undeniably sad hugs, but didn’t go back to talking.
Then he felt a hand ruffle his hair, but he wasn’t confused. With his left hand he reached up and grabbed where he felt it, and started his broken voice again, “And you, Kaito, you believed in all of us. You always pushed us forward. You b-brought us all together. We’re here because of you.”
Maki started to make her way over, and physically grabbed Shuichi’s right arm and hugged it while dropping her face onto his shoulder, crying into it. He felt his ruffling hair cease, and then experienced a large hug that seemed to embrace both survivors and where Kokichi might’ve been.
Himiko was next as she grabbed Shuichi’s other arm and held it. He felt them, Angie and Tenko, on both sides of her release and extend their hug to the others.
One by one, Shuichi started to notice them all.
Miu, next to Kaede.
Keebo, only recently gone, next to that.
Ryoma, at one of his legs.
Kirumi, next to Maki.
Korekiyo, arms outstretched behind Himiko’s trio as an apology.
Gonta, behind Kokichi, arms wide enough to hold everyone.
And Rantaro, on Kaede’s other side.
Fifteen students embracing in their final goodbyes of the killing game.
Finally, Shuichi croaked, “Tsu… Tsumugi you too. Even if it was pretend-“
He didn’t get to finish. She was there. Not in the hug, but there. She didn’t seem to have remorse or sorrow, but she was there, saying goodbye.
There was warmth, and tears, and emotions. They stayed like that for fifteen minutes, not wanting to let go.
But they had to.
The three survivors opened their eyes, and the warmth started to fade.
No one was there.
When they finally separated, they all turned around to look behind them, away from the exit. It was just a bunch of rocks and debris scattered everywhere.
But they knew.
Thirteen people were standing there, watching, waving, crying.
Right in the middle was Kaede, smiling with a fountain of tears running down her face, holding two people’s hands very tightly.
On her right, Kaito, crying with a large grin, giving a thumbs up to his exceptional sidekicks.
On her left, Kokichi, his tears never ending after finally being allowed to sob, one finger over his mouth, jokingly and poorly recreating his signature sly grin.
Shuichi looked at them, looked at all of them. Friends, enemies, lovers, victims, murderers, masterminds, antagonists, and protagonists. They were all radiant. They were ethereal. They were everything to him.
And then,
They were gone.
“Goodbye,” Shuichi said to the sky. The two women next to him followed suit.
The three survivors turned back around to reface the exit, and then, hand in hand, they all took a step forward.

You can’t possibly come in a T-rex costume to your own wedding
crackfic taken very seriously, pairing: saiouma, words: 1813
from orginal tags: Wedding Planing, how did it spiral down to that, Slice of Life, I should not have taken the wedding prompt, The Author Regrets Everything, except for the “do you ever wonder about...” but this is the part that you will hate
I don’t even know for what event I’ve made the T-rex trilogy anymore, but enjoy
No. No way. This is not an option. No. Stupid. He can't possibly be actually considering that. Momota must have been trying to prank him and he will not fall for that. His relationship with Shuichi is the one thing he can't afford to fuck up. This includes their wedding day, it has to be perfect, no foolishery that could destroy that, definitely not a T-rex costume. Not in a thousand years, even if he already had one and maybe deep down would want to wear it on big occasions instead of a boring suit, not on the wedding.
He had to admit it at least to himself. All of his life he's been a clown, never a serious person, there was a lot of dumb and irresponsible things he did just for the hell of it. That's the part of him that Momota knew, but there was more. Something he definitely wouldn't show in front of others. That is - he cared about Shuichi. A lot. It wasn't just some sort of fascination, they wouldn't be getting married if it was about curiosity or the looks, that could have been what initially brought them together. Now he couldn't imagine life without the other.
The years they spend together, it was already eight that they knew each other and five of dating. So much time is bound to change a person. Their beginings were... shaky, both of them had issues and they were still in high school at the time, so nobody believed they would last. But they learned from all the misunderstandings, fights and especially that one time when they techinically broke up, but made up soon after, if nothing else, then that incident surely taught them to communicate with each other. Therefore, what Momota was trying to tell him really didn't make sense. He was not only telling him that Shuichi was into dressing up as a dinosaur, he was telling him that he accidentaly discovered something Shuichi was hiding even from him and that it would be a good idea to use this knowledge to make a "nice" surprise for Shuichi and wear said costume to their wedding.
He took in a deep breath, whether Momota was serious or trying to prank him or whatever, he didn't have the strenght to think deeper into it, but at the same time he had to hold in the urge to punch that idiot. He thought that by know they were over their conflicts from school years or at least that Momota valued his friendship with Saihara enough to respect his relationship with Ouma, but apparently not. Doing something like this would obviously make him look like he wasn't serious about the marriage and most likely tear them apart and yet the astronaut had the gall to suggest him doing that. It was disrespectful to Shuichi's privacy (if it was true), too.
Masking his anger with a fake smile he promised to himself that he's going to hold on to that grudge, perhaps trash the guy's wedding when the time comes, assuming that he ends up having the balls to propose... it's more likely that Harukawa will, it was clear who's wearing pants in that relationship. For now, he told him that he'll "think about it" and that "it could be fun". Which, little did the spaceman know, was a code for "I'm gonna talk about it with Shuichi as soon as I can and avoid any and all unnecessary drama you could cause with this ploy."
Feeling mentally exhausted after Momota left he sat dawn on the couch and sighed. How was he going to approach the subject?
It could be said that Momota was always there, technically they all knew each other since the beginning of high school, but Kokichi was distant for the first two years while the other two became friends right away. It was obvious that Shuichi considered him a dear friend, it would be wrong to start with accusing the guy of having ill intent. It would be just cruel and unnecessery, they already had arguments about Ouma not mixing well with his boyfriend's friend group in the past, it resolved with an agreement that they don't have to like each other's friends, it's enough if they don't fight over them.
They both have their own judgement and free will, it's a part of trusting your partner to let them be and don't be forceful about who they should hang out with. Controlling behavior is such a big red flag and they were above that. Yeah, jealousy on his part and wanting people he cared about to get along on Shuichi's side started the argument, but what they did was talk it out. So yeah, implying that perhaps Momota wanted to sabotage their wedding was not an option. It would make him the asshole who made Shuichi choose between who's side to take.
He didn't want to accept that, but he knew what he had to do. Looks like his plans for the evening just got interesting.
Busy as a bee,it was usual for Saihara to come back late, but recently he was trying to come back home earlier, but the part that worried his soon to be husband that it was not to rest, did he ever? He was coming home to do more work related to wedding preparations or he was sneaking his real job in, Kokoichi was doing his best trying to stop the latter, knowing that this workaholic habit has to stop and made sure he had equal share of the first one. Actually, they tried to do most things together, when it came to the wedding it was of great importance to them for everything to be mutually agreed upon. They mastered the art of compromising a long time ago and knew their preferences well enough, which could cause people to wrongly assume it would be a piece of cake.
Bad wording. The thought of cake made him slightly nauseus. How many cakes you have to try before you pick one? How many places you have to see before you know which is the right one? How many designs of an invitation do you have to look throug before they make you choose between two nearly identical? What about decorations? Music? Having to learn the first dance? Panicking in the dressing room while trying on a suit, because you've seen the price and you don't deserve to wear it just as much as you don't deserve the love of your partner, but you can't stain this shit with tears and you start to doubt if the last five years was just a dream and you're gonna wake up being a teenager with nobody who'd care and acne again?
Do you ever wonder about those things?
Anyway. Shuichi coming home meant he had to get moving, today they had plans, they were going to visit his uncle to personally hand him the invitation. Good thing, that he lived close, but even better that not next door. Coming over for dinner was not a problem, but they had their privacy, it was perfect.
First though, he had to prepare a relaxing bath for Shuichi, he needs a break before continuing the day and won't give it to himself, so somebody else has. If the whole purpose wasn't for his fiance to rest, he'd gladly join him in it too, but maybe some other time.
Meeting partner's family seems to be the thing that always make people nervous, but reality is that after a while it becomes normal, it depends on how confident a person is, some people relax after making the first impression or maybe that just happens in books he read and it's normal to need more time like he did, but nonetheless it fades and eventually there's nothing to be nervous about, because at this point they'd either openly disapprove or started to treat you as a part of the family. For reasons unknown to him he got accepted and got called "son"which felt weird.
Today wasn't a typical visit, though, so a shred of familiar nervousness appeared. With how much of a big deal they did out of engagment everyone knew about them getting married, so technically it wasn't like they were breaking the news. Hell, he consulted with and asked for approval of Shuichi's uncle as the closest family he got before proposing. And yet it felt as if he was doing it for the second time. This time, thankfully there was Shuichi with him, it was always easier to face situations that challenged their insecurities together. Especially situations that stressed them both out, it boosted their protectiveness of each other and with the mutual support built they could face anything, even Shuichi's parents when they visited once. Speaking about them, they weren't invited.
He quickly realized that his worries were baseless, the man happily accepted the invitation and congratulated them, deep down he knew that he shouldn't expect any diffrent, but he still was relieved.
The rest of the evening passed in more relaxed atmosphere. They talked a bit more about details of the wedding and plans for the honeymoon - they were going to spend two weeks by the sea before coming back to the mundane life. During that conversation he managed to bring up the subject of costumes in a subtle way.
Casually, after taking a sip of his tea, he looked at Shuichi to see his reaction and dropped the bomb. "We could indulge in some untraditional aspects, for example apply a theme, some people pull that off pretty well, I've seen a couple get married on a boat with a Love Live theme or some others had everyone wear costumes and it was just stellar. Our is going to be rather small, roughly thirty people, so that would be doable."
He din't have to say that it's because there would be no one to come from his side as he's an orphan, it hung heavy in the air anyway, so he kept speaking to chase it away. It was impossible to tell if Shuichi's eyes widened because of the mention of costumes or at what his last sentence implied.
"It's just a random thought, since everything's decided by now and we kept it pretty simple, but it's such a special occasion that I understand wanting to have an extravagant wedding and even take said extravagance to another level, why not, it is once in a lifetime."
Shuichi didn't have any strong reaction to that and only asked if he's pointing at something in a tone that suggested nothing, it wasn't nervous at all and Shuichi sucked at hiding his emotions. The only possible conclusion was that he had no idea about the whole thing.
"Silly Shumai, I said it was a random thought, didn't I?"

Danganronpa V3 Commentary Extra: Rantaro’s Love Hotel Event
At one point I vaguely mentioned that I might make a post covering Rantaro’s Love Hotel event sometime. Unlike most of these events, Rantaro’s one is in fact very good, to the point that it might actually be my favourite piece of Rantaro content. So if I ever wanted to briefly talk about some of the things that are interesting about Rantaro that aren’t relevant in the main storyline, this is honestly the best way for me to do it.
(And maybe there’s also a not-so-Rantaro-specific reason I want to talk about this, too.)
Obligatory warning: this is side-mode bonus content, but I will be mentioning endgame spoilers; don’t read this if you haven’t finished the main story of the game.
First off, understanding this event requires knowledge of what we learn in Rantaro’s FTEs. So, while I don’t quite want to go out of my way to cover those line-by-line, here’s the gist of them for anyone who doesn’t know.
Rantaro’s family is fairly rich and travels around a lot, and one time while in a foreign country, he lost track of his little sister, who was supposed to be following behind him, and she vanished. Ever since then, he’s been doing everything he can to get her back, travelling all over the place and getting himself into all kinds of dangerous scenarios.
Rantaro feels as though his Ultimate should be something like Ultimate Useless Older Brother for letting this happen to his sister in the first place. But Shuichi concludes after hearing the story that maybe Rantaro’s actually the Ultimate Big Brother. It’s not Rantaro’s fault that he lost her, and he’s been trying so hard since then to get her back, essentially devoting his whole life to it, which sounds like the best kind of big brother there is.
After Shuichi agrees to use his detective skills to help Rantaro find his sister, Rantaro then casually adds that, oh by the way, he’s actually got twelve younger sisters who all went missing in similar ways on separate trips.
…And this is the point at which I go “yep, that backstory’s definitely fictional”. Letting it happen once could have been an accidental lapse of attention, sure. But after that, Rantaro would have been extra determined to protect his remaining sisters and not lose them too, so there’s absolutely no way he would have let it happen again eleven more times. That’s just wanton carelessness, as if Rantaro doesn’t actually give a damn about his sisters’ safety at all, which is very clearly the opposite of the truth about him. This only makes sense if it’s fake memories and never actually happened.
(But man, no wonder he hates himself, since he genuinely believes that he really did somehow just carelessly let that happen to every single one of his sisters like the worst big brother in the world.)
Rantaro’s backstory here doesn’t really have much bearing on his role in the canon plot, since his issues there are an entirely separate story fuelled by the whole Survivor Perk thing. Still, this does somewhat help explain why Rantaro is the type of person he is. He probably already had trouble trusting people and feeling like he deserved to be trusted even without the Survivor Perk handicap making it worse – recall fresh-out-of-season-52 Rantaro telling his future self to “trust no-one”. And yet, despite that, he also has a very strong instinct to look out for others and be protective like the big brother he is, hence trying to end the killing game despite his hesitation to trust anyone. His protective instinct might lean towards girls in particular, since they’d be more likely to remind him of his sisters – he did comment at one point that he was worried Kaede’s proactiveness might get her in trouble with Monokuma. (This is why I headcanon that the two survivors from season 52 were both girls; I just think it’d be fun if part of why Rantaro sacrificed himself for them was that they reminded him a little of his sisters and he wanted to protect them at least where he’d failed before.)
So anyway, Rantaro’s Love Hotel event, aka an event where Shuichi has to play the role of the subject’s “ideal fantasy”, which doesn’t have to mean something romantic, shock horror, because this one is entirely platonic. In it, Shuichi finds himself being treated as a student whom Rantaro is something like a private tutor for.
Rantaro:  “That’s why you’re my favourite student. Good job! Good work, Shuichi!”
Shuichi:  (As he showered me with praise, he lightly tussled my hair with a smile.) […] “R-Rantaro… I’m not a little kid…” (Even if this is his fantasy, it feels weird to be talked to like that.)
Rantaro:  “…‘Rantaro,’ huh?”
(His tone had changed. He pulled his hand away, dejected.)
Rantaro:  “Not that long ago… you were calling me ‘Big Brother.’”
Except it’s clearly more than that. Rantaro has come to think of this student as like a surrogate younger sibling figure, no doubt to fill the painful gap while his sisters are still missing.
It’s unclear, though, whether he actually has a student like this in real life. This could just be his fantasy of wanting to feel like a big brother again – a fantasy constrained by the unchangeable reality that his sisters are gone and it’s impossible for them to just magically be there, so his subconscious went for the most plausible alternative instead.
Rantaro:  “Haha… I guess I made you hate me… didn’t I, Shuichi?”
Apparently Rantaro is all too liable to assume that any “younger sibling” of his would obviously turn to hating him at the slightest provocation. (His sisters must hate him for letting them fall into whatever awful situation they’re in right now, right? They’re definitely blaming it all on him.)
The reason for “Shuichi” supposedly hating Rantaro here is that Rantaro recently announced he’d be leaving on a trip soon – presumably another expedition to try and find his sisters – and can’t even say why.
(Shuichi doesn’t figure out that this is about his sisters, which I guess is because it’s possible to get this event without having done Rantaro’s FTEs in which Shuichi learns about that.)
Rantaro:  “I know I’m being selfish, Shuichi. I’m sorry, but I want to shelter you from danger as much as I can…”
Shuichi:  “What? Danger…?”
Rantaro:  “Haha, whoops, guess I shouldn’t have said that… Forget it.”
Shuichi:  “No, Rantaro, I won’t. Not with that look on your face…”
Rantaro:  “Some teacher I am, huh? Making you worry about me…”
Obviously it’s terrible of Rantaro as a teacher (as a big brother) to make Shuichi worry about him. That’s not how things are supposed to go in this arrangement at all, so Shuichi should definitely just forget all about it and stop worrying.
(yes hello guess who this is beginning to remind me of, are you maybe starting to see that other reason I wanted to cover this event)
Rantaro:  “But you don’t have to worry about a thing. Nothing will ever hurt you. I will protect you. I promise. No one precious to me will ever get hurt again.”
There is absolutely no way someone this fiercely protective would ever have let each of his precious little sisters disappear on him twelve times over. No way. It’s so cruel that Rantaro’s fake memories are making him believe he must secretly be the kind of callously careless person who would let it happen. He’s bound to feel like these assurances otherwise are really just empty words that he’ll always end up betraying when it matters, because he would have promised the same thing to eleven of his sisters, more and more fervently each time, and look what happened anyway.
Shuichi:  “W-Wait, Rantaro!” (I don’t really understand, but here goes…) “That… That hurts me, Rantaro. Thinking about you carrying this burden all by yourself hurts me.”
Meanwhile, look at Shuichi hating to see someone he cares about carrying a burden all by themselves, and confronting that person with the fact that they’re hurting him by not letting him help. I wonder who else Shuichi might have said this to, hm? If only he’d known.
Shuichi:  “Maybe you see me as just a student, so you don’t think I can protect you… But I don’t *want* to be sheltered and oblivious to everything.”
Rantaro:  “Shuichi…”
And look at how Shuichi doesn’t want this person to be hiding their troubles from him in an attempt to protect him, because he can protect them too. This unbalanced arrangement of strictly one-directional help and support while the other person suffers alone was never what Shuichi signed up for.
(If only they’d realise that they need and deserve to be supported, and that needing it doesn’t mean they can’t still support others themselves.)
Shuichi:  “Rantaro, you’re going to quit being my tutor, right? So I’m not just your student. I’m your *friend*. You can tell me anything. I know I can help you.”
Shuichi’s approach to this is exactly what he does in Kaito’s Harmonious Heart event and I love it. Rantaro’s trying to insist they have this tutor/student (big brother/little brother) relationship that means Rantaro has to hide all his worries and problems and bear all of that by himself to keep Shuichi safe and oblivious and not worried – but no. Shuichi is having none of that nonsense that puts so much extra undue pressure on Rantaro, because they are friends and he wants to help. Just like with Kaito – he sees this as the best, simplest way to get through to his friend and stop them being so goddamn selfless, and it is.
(Or, well, he and Rantaro might not even technically be friends in this Love Hotel event if Shuichi hasn’t done his FTEs. Still, Shuichi is playing this role of someone who views Rantaro as a tutor/big brother/friend, so he’s acting out what he would do if a person he cared about in that way was behaving like this. Sure, Rantaro never even mentioned that they’re specifically friends, but Shuichi extrapolated from the situation that obviously this person would consider Rantaro a friend as well as those other things. Shuichi is good.)
Rantaro:  “Are you sure about this, Shuichi? You’re at the point of no return…
Shuichi:  “I would never want you to face it alone, Rantaro…”
Rantaro:  “You’ve really come into your own. Haha… Alright, I give up. I’ll tell you everything.”
Looks like it worked! Rantaro now has (in his fantasy) not just a surrogate little brother, but a friend and comrade who’s going to help him and be there for him as he searches for his sisters. Which is probably a lot more beneficial for him in the long run than just yet another younger sibling for him to feel like he’s letting down one way or another.
Rantaro:  “Just… until the end of this lesson, can we act like nothing’s changed? The time that I’ve spent as your teacher… has been such a comfort to me.”
I also really like this, because it shows that Shuichi’s response to all this wasn’t Rantaro’s fantasy. Rantaro wanted to just re-experience the feeling of spending time with a younger sibling who’s safe and protected and is never ever going to get hurt or be in danger at all. And Shuichi essentially threw that out and told Rantaro not what he wanted to hear, but what he needed to hear – that he needs to stop being so selfless and let the people who care about him help him for once, because they don’t want him to be suffering alone and he deserves better than that.
This is a really great event because it’s a rare – and really well-done – showcase of Rantaro’s issues from his backstory. They’re some pretty fun issues, so it’s honestly a big shame that they’re basically not relevant at all in the main story and only even come up in bonus bits like this. (Granted, someone had to be the first to die, and the way it was done with Rantaro was probably one of the best ways to make that person still feel fairly narratively relevant and not like a complete throwaway – but it does sadly mean that most of his potential as a character and not as a mysterious plot device had to be squandered.)
But that’s not all; I also really like this event because of Shuichi’s role in it. From what little I gather of how these mostly-stupid Love Hotel scenes go, it probably doesn’t usually even matter that it’s Shuichi in them, because he’s just a placeholder forced to play this role no matter how uncomfortable it makes him and how unlike him it is. But in this one, Shuichi being here does make a difference. Not everyone would have responded to Rantaro’s situation like this, but Shuichi did, because he’s a really good friend who’d never want to let the people he cares about carry their burdens alone.
So not only is this a great event for showcasing Rantaro’s issues, but it’s also great for showing us how good and supportive of a friend Shuichi has the potential to be, even towards people who are stubbornly trying to put themselves in a one-sided protector role that has to carry burdens alone. Shuichi was always exactly the right kind of person to help Kaito with his problems, too – if only he’d known what Kaito was hiding from him in the first place.
(Also, man, if Rantaro had lived longer, he and Kaito could have had some very interesting interactions. I love how many characters in this story it’s possible to draw parallels and contrasts to Kaito with.)
