There's very little that Ezran remembers about Sarai.

He remembers the warmth of her smile, he thinks. The softness of her hair in his chubby little hands. But beyond that, there's not much else—too recently weaned before her death for more than stories he's heard to take hold, and even then, it feels like every year Harrow (until he couldn't) and Callum, or even Aunt Amaya, would bring up something new, something small, that they remembered, and he was learning it for the first time.

Mom always wore little gold beads in her hair.

Those were her favourite pair of earrings.

She planned out the castle gardens, with those hedges over there.

Soren, even, citing that she was his first sword-fighting teacher back when she'd been captain of the guard, before she and Ez's dad had fallen in love.

Her birthday is always hard, an added winter chill growing throughout the castle. Ezran ensures more fires are lit, and Claudia enchants little glass jars of orange light with her Sun primal, for people to carry in their pockets to keep them warm. He dons his more heavily furred royal cape and keeps Bait close while he writes letters to his brother and Rayla in Xadia, climbing the cold steps up to the rookery to send them.

Claudia joins him more often than not in his study, to save on candles, she says, as they do their work long into the night, but Ezran thinks she just likes his company, his heart doing a hopeful little dance in his chest. He steals glances at her atop the rim of candlelight dancing in her green eyes, now with that spark of light in them that'd been gone for so long during the war. After the war, too.

"You know," he begins, when they're heading to the study after lunch, "we could go to the library. The fireplace there is warmer. There's more comfortable chairs."

We used to always sit up in the library when it got cold, his dad had said, and Callum would play on the floor with you in your mom's lap.

Claudia thinks for a moment, then grins adorably. "Why not?" she says.

They settle in with tea and jelly tarts as an extra bonus, Claudia easing off her prosthetic and letting her stump be close to the fire; Ezran knows the cold makes the phantom pains worse this time of year. (Terry still sends over a herbal remedy that helps with it from where he's set up an apothecary on the border of Del Bar and Katolis with Corvus.)

More of her dyed black hair falls in front of her ears while she works, making notes on charts for what magical goods will be imported once the ice melts, and Claudia pushes it back impatiently until she sits back and begins braiding it. It's still shorter than it was in their teens, no longer all the way down her back, but long enough to braid as she starts the process, fingers jolting.

Dark magic took a lot from her, but one of the things it left was permanent nerve damage in her hands. (The cold makes that worse, too.)

"My mom used to do that," Ez half-remembers, half-recalls. Another story about the differences from their royal portrait—the one real non-Callum produced picture of their mother he has, the way he pictures her in his mind's eye—and how she'd worn her hair in a braid just as often loose or in a bun.

Claudia smiles then, softly. "She did. She's actually the one who taught me, after..." Lissa, another woman Ezran has never really met, isn't a wound anymore, but it's still hard during this time of year. "After my mom left and I grew my hair out."

Ezran sets aside his letter to an Evenerean diplomat, rising when she struggles again. "I can do that for you, if you like."

"Oh. You don't—"

He steps around easily to stand behind her armchair. "Let me?"

Claudia turns to the front fully, exhaling. "Alright."

He gathers her hair gently, hands confident due to the way his father had shown him him growing up, but styled a bit more the way Moonshadows do their braids, like how Rayla had demonstrated. For love and affection, she'd said, having small, long ones tucked away behind thicker locks for each of them—Callum and Ez and Soren, her boys, and then for each of her parents.

"There," Ezran says, finishing. He takes off his cape too for good measure, and drapes it across her shoulders. Claudia is looking at him wide-eyed when he walks back around to face her, and he passes a hand self-consciously over the patch of hair he's growing on his chin.

"Thank you," she says at least, tugging his cape further over her shoulder. The royal red brings out the green of her eyes and black of her hair. It suits her.

"Don't mention it," Ezran says, sitting again. They catch each other's eye, briefly, and share a smile, before she blushes a bit and looks away.

He feels warm for the first time all day.

Happy Fools (M!Chrobin ver.)

Summary: Lissa informs Robin of an observation she's made about her brother.

A/N: Might do this sort of thing with all future Chrobin fics of mine. Gender shouldn't really play much of a role in any of them, so I don't see why they can't each have both an F and an M version. In this case, due to how short and simple the original fic is, the changes consist almost entirely of pronoun changes. I suppose anyone who really wanted Happy Fools to be M!Chrobin could just use find and replace or something, but meh. I'm doing this anyway.

"Hey Robin! Care for a random observation that might help you out?"

Robin looked up from the book he was reading, miffed by the interruption but making an effort not to show it. Lissa stood by the entrance of his tent, her lips turned up in a small, cheeky smile. He doubted that whatever Lissa wanted to share was important at all, but he could entertain her for a moment – as long as she didn't prank him again.

"Uh… sure," he said as he marked his place and closed his book so he could give Lissa his full attention.

Lissa took a seat beside him and regarded him with a knowing look. "For some reason, whenever I talk to my brother, he almost always talks about you!"

"Oh?" He raised an eyebrow. That's all? he thought to himself. "Well, that wouldn't surprise me. Chrom and I do spend a lot of time together, of course. It's a necessity when I'm his chief tactician and trusted advisor."

"That's not what I mean," Lissa insisted. "It's the way he talks about you. I think he likes you, Robin!"

Robin felt heat rising to his cheeks. Oh. So that's what she wants to talk about… "Are you sure you're not just imagining things? Chrom and I are just friends. Admittedly, very good friends who share a special bond and a deep understanding" – and have bathed together on at least one occasion, he privately added – "but no more than that."

Lissa wasn't buying it. Robin could see it in her eyes. "I don't know, Robin… he sometimes gets really nervous and fidgety when he talks about you. I've never seen him like that with anyone else. And I know my brother like the back of my own hand!"

She did, that was true, and Robin couldn't deny that. Chrom had been at Lissa's side from the moment she was born. It was only natural that she'd notice even the smallest things about her brother.

"...I'll take your word for it," said Robin. In truth, he was at a loss on what to do with this new information. He hadn't noticed Chrom behaving any differently around him, but if Lissa's findings were true…

"So do you like him back?" Lissa's question pierced his thoughts as smoothly as the Falchion cut through an unpeeled orange. "I'd love to have you as a brother-in-law!"

Robin's cheeks grew warmer. "N-now's not the time to worry about marriage! We're in the middle of a war, you know!"

Before Lissa could respond, the tent flap lifted open, and a familiar head of deep blue hair poked inside. "Ah, Lissa, I was looking for you. Are you prepared for tomorrow's expedition?"

Robin froze.

"Chrom!" Lissa jumped out of her chair as though it'd caught fire. "Y-yes, of course!"

"Alright." An uncomfortable pause followed as Chrom assessed the scene before him. Robin prayed to every deity he could think of that Chrom hadn't heard anything he wasn't supposed to. "I'm sorry, have I interrupted something?"

"Uh, no!" Lissa exclaimed before Robin could get a word in. "Not at all!" She glanced at Robin with a lopsided smile. "Well, that was a nice talk, Robin, but I need to go and… organise the twigs. I'll see you tomorrow!" She fled from the tent, and with that, she was gone.

Chrom shook his head, bemused. With an exhausted sigh, he settled himself in the chair that Lissa had occupied just moments before. "I'm sorry if Lissa was giving you any trouble, Robin," he said. "She can be rather… tiresome, at times."

"It's not a problem," said Robin. "Anyway, let's review our plans for tomorrow."

As they spent the next half-hour in rapt discussion, Robin realised, with great relief, that their relationship was still as blissfully normal as it'd always been. Nothing was amiss. He didn't need to fret over romance or marriage.

Yet.

Perhaps there were deep-seated feelings that needed to be settled, but now wasn't the time to dwell on them. After all, they had a Mad King to deal with, first and foremost.

so.. Vampire Academy

it is my favorite book series, I really love it a lot and I enjoyed the movie as well, I thought the actors were picked very well and I didn't mind the lighter vibe it had, too shame it got cancelled.

Naturally, when I heard about the new show I was really happy. This happened already, I loved Mortal Instruments, but I also loved Shadowhunters. However, then the cast was revealed and we all were.. bewildered to say the least.

I understand we needed more diverse cast, but it's always hard for fans to see their book characters portrayed in a different way. I especially didn't understand changes like Lissa's hair color, Dimitri not really feeling like Dimitri etc.

But now I finally got to binge the first four episodes and I must say... I love it. I love it and I can't wait for more.

I feel like everyone is playing really well, they might not look like we imagined them, but they definitely feel like the characters we love so much. The plot is completely different, but a lot of things from different books mixed together so it kinda presents Easter eggs for fans who read the books, yet keeps them on their toes and still curious about what's gonna happen. They also left the important parts like Christian being outsider with Strigoi parents, Lissa's family dying, Rose and her mom, the bond, I really appreciate that.

For the changes. Some things are rather confusing, eg Lissa being princess even before her family died, the weird eye-light to show if a Moroi is Royal or not, the digital broadcasting.. but these are minor things that I can forgive. Also, I really enjoy the little city they live in, it gives us more interesting places to explore, rather than just one boarding school. And I find interesting what they did with Victor, Sonya and Mia. It makes so much sense and makes it very interesting to watch because you kinda know what might happen? Anyway, when Robert appeared and we saw him in bed with Victor for a sec I was really really confused, because they were brothers in the books :D

For the things I do mind or find bothersome. Dhampirs drinking every night, first of all - how old even are they? And second of all - they are Guardians or future Guardians, it was never said they don't drink, but to drink this excessively and party with students with teachers together like mates, that just doesn't seem right. It's not really clear if they study or not, we see Dhampirs training, but we only saw one strange class with Morois. And once again - how old are these people? :D The queen being queen for 200 years. I don't think Morois have longer life span than humans (and Dhampirs are not stronger or faster than humans either, they are just well trained, but that one I don't mind). That strange "go breed" thing. But tbh it sounds like something Royals from the books would do so I let that one slip :D but it's really.. ew. Dimitri. I don't like Dimitri very much, so I don't care all that, but some people might. He is the only one who isn't how he was portrayed in the books. The actor is fine, but idk why he doesn't have the right accent, that was such a big part of Dimitri and it kinda makes him lack the authenticity. And although he is kinda broody, he doesn't seem as such an introverted weirdo as he was in the books. But again, I don't mind, someone might.

That's everything that comes to mind at the moment. Like I said. There are plenty changes, some good, some a bit strange, but nothing too bad I think. I like how they composed all the books and added their own invention, I think it makes the series more interesting and more 2022ish. I look forward for the rest.

Chrom and/or Robin for the ask game :)

I'll do both!

Chrom

First impression: I don't even remember when I first got properly introduced to him. Heroes, maybe? No, I think it was before Heroes got released. It's definitely not when I first played Awakening though, since that was just last year.

Impression now: Truly the most male character of all of Fire Emblem. He's amazing. The perfect combination of Marth and Ike. His voice is perfect. He singlehandedly puts my sexuality into question.

Favorite moment: It's got to be either his battle convo with Walhart or his reaction to Lucina's reveal, immediately believing and comforting her without asking how or why.

Idea for a story: Something about his journey in search of Robin after the ending, that and him fitting into the role of Exalt (granted he's already been at it for two years by this point, but you don't exactly learn how to govern properly in just two years)

Unpopular opinion: I feel that Chrom's approach to trusting people is, as always, really misinterpreted by the fandom (and honestly one of these days we need to have a whole discussion on how this fandom treats naive characters and the belief that naive = stupid).

He knows the danger of trusting everyone, but he still chooses to- as he explains in his support with male Robin, he'd rather risk falling into a trap than turn his back on someone in need. Heck, if he didn't do this, Robin wouldn't be with him now.

Besides, he's got Frederick to watch his back and do the suspecting for him.

And you know, the fact a good chunk of fans just shrug it off as "lol he's so stupid" is just annoying, when the whole philosophy is yes, dangerous, but also fascinating and noble!

Favorite relationship: Romantically with Robin, no question. The two pair each other so well it's baffling, especially with male Robin. I feel they have even more chemistry there!

Platonically with Lissa, mostly because I like they act like actual siblings. Well, besides the occasional "big brother".

Favorite headcanon: He's a huge mythology nerd. He knows a lot about the lore of other worlds, even if he doesn't know they're real until Heroes or his trip through the Outrealms. He actually learned Aether by reading about Ike's stories and imitating him.

Robin

First impression: Again, no idea. They're one of those characters that feel they've always been there.

Impression now: I'm just so fascinated by them. They're by far one of the most intriguing characters in the entire series, through their personality, their relationships, their special connection to Grima and their metanarrative role. I literally wrote a whole essay about it! Of all the FE avatars, they're the only one who I think actually works better as an Avatar, even if I still thing they get restrained by the role sometimes.

Also I like female Robin (those pigtails are iconic and her map sprite looks so fluffy), but I still like male Robin a lot more. His default look and voice is just perfection, and I feel his supports are overall better!

Favorite moment: Their ending where they sacrifice themselves and the bad ending of Future Past. Those scenes are just *chefs kiss*

Unpopular opinion: They're a lot more interesting than people give them credit for, and it saddens me that a lot of fans think they're just one-note and generic. (But really, you can say this about almost every 3DS FE character, they just shrug them off as "lol anime stereotypes" and then some of them go on explaining why a character of the Kaga games that only has three lines is better written than all of Fates or some other bs)

Favorite relationship: Romantically again, with Chrom. But I really like Cordelia and Tiki too!

Favorite headcanon: I love the idea of the line between them and Grima being even more blurry than normal and they keep rubbing off on each other, like for example Robin feeling this near unstoppable rage when their loved ones are being horribly threatened or wronged, or Grima having a strange fondness for the Ylissean family despite them being technically their enemy.

C: What member do you identify with most?

That was a hard question, because sometimes it's difficult to tell who you'd aspire to be, and who you identify with... but I'd say out of all of Gwen's characters (and Gwen fandom characters too) that I am familiar with, I feel most in tune with Larissa Weems: I can be fiercely protective of my loved ones, I wouldn't have to many moral boundaries if they were endangered, and I tend to try to be a perfectionist by bottling things up. I don't have the impeccable style though, nor the Desk Lean Superpower. Yet.

F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

I think it might be this somewhat toxic interaction between Morticia and Larissa in my AU Surprising Like Good Coffee On A Bad Day. I love how you can tell that there's history between the two of them, and it's not necessarily good history, but it still brings them together. I love the angst, the fact that it might be wrong but we are all human sometimes and we make mistakes. It makes me feel things.

“Don’t you want some?” The mocking lilt of her black painted lips let no doubt about the fact that she didn’t mean just the cigarette. Larissa took a sharp breath. Two could play this game.

“No, thank you. I quit twenty years ago.” Tish’s black eyes grew bigger, as if she hadn’t anticipated the challenge, as if she now enjoyed the chase even more. Like a fucking shark. Her mouth opened in a predatory smile, and her tongue -God, her tongue- came out to wet her black lips.

“Did you, now?” Her free hand snaked between them, climbing up and reaching Larissa’s lapel, possessively tugging her down, to her level. Their bodies pressed together, only the bulk of their winter clothes separating them. They always did fit amazingly well with one another. “Were you holding out for me, Lissa?”. She took another long drag, and for a moment, Larissa’s brain was frozen in her memories.

“I…” She scrambled, searching for a comeback, something that could…

Oh.

There were lips on her own, blowing acrid smoke into her mouth. It had been so long.

“Why in the seven fucking hells you couldn’t be the one down here?”  Augustine heard the tone of his voice--and while normally he would have cringed and tried to rein in his temper--he just wasn’t in the mood. 

<Do I look like I can be a priest?>  Reinhardt countered.

“There’s a fair amount of clergymen who have more fucked up faces than yours.”

<Let me rephrase that.  Do I even remotely give off the impression that I could be a priest?>

“I just want to know why did it turn out to be me on the ground and you playing lookout!” 

<Natural selection!>  Reinhardt sniped.  Then he sighed.  He couldn’t blame Augustine for being tetchy.  The paladin had taken up a post just some yards away from the House Dzemael entrance.  Instead of his armor however, Augustine was wearing a set of Mathye’s clerical robes--hastily purloined, with one of his staves strapped to his back. 

“I’ve got a good view from here.”  He said.  “If I spot your ex-family, you’ve got enough time to head for one of the alcoves.”  Silence stretched out for several moments on the linkpearl, and then it was Augustine’s turn to sigh.

<Sorry.  I just...I try to stay away from here whenever I’m in the city.>

“Believe me I know.  Just bad luck that the bastard that drugged Lissa works in that compound.”  Augustine shifted his weight--how the hell did Mathye deal with the all the skirts kicking about everywhere?  It didn’t help that Ishgard was particularly windy today.

“What exactly happened?”  He asked.  Lissa was Riven’s lady’s maid--or rather, acted as one whenever Riven was in the city and staying with the Fortemps. 

<Lissa had a night off, decided to go to the Forgotten Knight.  She was all alone, a man came up and introduced himself, and then they started talking.  He bought the drinks, and soon Lissa noticed that she wasn’t feeling well.  She felt woozy, and the man was starting to ask her questions about Riven.  She got up to use the privy, but instead went to Gibrillont.  He figured out she’d been drugged, but the arsehole had fled.>

“You got an Echo vision?” 

<Lucked into it.  Did some asking around, found out he worked here and this is his normal time to leave for the farmlands Dzemael still has outside the city.  He's a supervisor.>  Augustine frowned.

“Dzemael has no love lost for Riven, and they’ve only been all too happy to just stay in their corners and quietly bitch about the state of affairs in Ishgard.”  He said.  “Plus with Count Durendaire having warmed up to her--they wouldn’t try anything.  So why would one of their servants want to drug Lissa enough to talk about her?”

<Your guess is as good as mine.  I was thinking it might have been another one of Riven’s ex-compatriots.  I remembered you had said you got one kicked out of the city when he came slinking back, wanting to fix fences.>

“That was before we left for Old Sharlayan.  Moons ago.”  Almost an entire lifetime, Augustine thought.

“Besides, there’s a chance they could have been injured or killed during the Final Days.”

<We thought they’d been killed during the summoning at Balsar’s Wall too, remember?>  Reinhardt pointed out.

“You have a point there.”  Augustine muttered.  “Still, I got the impression that the one we dealt with wasn’t going to try anything again.  And seemed smart enough to pass the word onto his friends.”  He shifted his weight as another blast of air sent his skirts flying about his ankles.  Reinhardt was quiet, his gaze flicking over the street.  No movement yet from the manor from his vantage point, though he would have to move soon.  His perch could be spotted by any dragoon on city-patrol.

<Did anyone tell you all you have to do is cut your hair and you’re a dead ringer for Mathye?> 

“Can we not?”

<Just saying!>

“You understand that these were custom, tailor-made-for-him, robes correct?  Aetherically customized?”

<Oh come on the two of you use Halonic magics, you’re not going to fuck up anything!>  Reinhardt couldn’t help the smile that was spreading over his face as Augustine spluttered.  Needling the paladin was breaking some of the tension and at least allowed Augustine to have a distraction.

“I know damn well you just didn’t try to compare my spellcraft with his!”  Reinhardt was correct in the fact that Ishgardian paladin and priest magics were at their core, the same.  Just different applications of spells.  Mathye on the other hand, was an entirely different creature. This was based on the fact that at some point during his training, a white mage job stone had made its way into his hands and refused to leave.  The Church had no choice but to allow Mathye to go Gridania to be trained by the Padjals.  Adding in his dragonfire from his time as a dragoon, and Augustine’s older brother was a literal unholy combination of priestly magics, white magery, and dragonfire.  With now an additional sprinkling of Halone-only-fucking-knew aether from his mastering the sage’s arts. 

<See I only just jump and fly, all magic is the same to me!>  Reinhardt teased.

“Floor force.” 

<What was that?!>  Now it was Augustine’s turn to grin.  ‘Floor force’ and other various...terms were often flung at the dragoons from the Temple Knights due to...well, the Knight Dragoon order traditionally wasn’t very good at ground combat.

“You heard me.”  He could imagine Reinhardt and Paien both bristling.  Before he could start piling it on, the dragoon interjected.

<Movement from the servant’s entrance.>  Augustine immediately snapped to attention, waiting.

“Is it him?”

<Aye.  Brunette, black robes, carrying some sort of package.  Heading your way.  See if you can’t pull him into the alley just past the Astrologium.  I’ll join you in a second.>

“Got it.”  Augustine murmured, watching as the man in question quickly passed him.

Entry 89: What is this, a Crossover Episode?

So, a bit of information on how this blog is written. Birthright was mostly written as it came out, but Conquest was written out months before I actually published it and the Paralogues were written in the middle of their respective routes. The Supports are written when I edit and release each entry, so it’s not like I can just upload all of this at once. The point is, I’m finally playing the game again after months away and it feels good.

Also I wrote this bit months ago and it’s coming out once I’ve played through and written most of Revelation. Scheduling is cool!

Xenologue 1: Before Awakening As I’ve said many times before, Fates is a sister game to Fire Emblem Awakening, resusing the engine and featuring very similar art and gameplay. Awakening is the game that, to be honest, I think is a lot better than Fates. Fates’s gameplay is better, overall, but also contains some of the worst maps in the series; Awakening is consistently kinda mediocre, while Fates oscillates rapidly between being great and awful. More important for this blog, I would argue Awakening is better written. While still not amazing, Awakening is for the most part a fairly generic fantasy story with a few moments of brilliance, while Fates is a constant parade of godawful writing.

None of this really matters for this entry. Maybe I’ll review Awakening or Three Houses sometime in the future, if I have the time. The point is, this DLC chapter is a crossover with Fire Emblem Awakening. It’s called Before Awakening, because it takes place before Awakening, even though that doesn’t really make sense considering the fact that Laslow, Selena, and Odin are clearly from after the end of Awakening. I know the Outrealm Gate messes with time, but it’s still weird.

The gang chases some Vallite enemies through the Outrealm Gate and suddenly that nostalgic Awakening music plays. The gate leads the gang to Ylisse, setting of Awakening. Chrom, Lissa, and Frederick walk up and introduce themselves. Jakob doesn’t want Corrin to confuse the shepherds by telling them about the Vallites, so Corrin claims that they’re chasing invisible warthogs. Frederick is obviously suspicious and Jakob gets pissed that he would disrespect his liege. Chrom explains that he is also royalty. The arguing is cut off when the Vallites start killing people, with the two teams fighting side by side.

This map is a recreation of Chapter 2 from Fire Emblem Awakening, with Chrom, Lissa, and Frederick fighting as ally units. It isn’t hard, for the most part, but it actually took me a few times because Lissa kept running into enemy ranges and killing herself. Like many DLC maps, this one has mid-battle conversations. Corrin asks Chrom if its dangerous for him to go fight monsters, while Chrom tells Corrin that Hoshido and Nohr are kingdoms from myth; Frederick asks Corrin for proof of their lineage and demands they stay away from Chrom when they can't. Corrin scares him off with bear jerky; Lissa asks Corrin to join the Sheppards and Corrin says that they would join if they could; Jakob and Frederick bicker and accuse each other's liege of secretly being evil before arguing who is the better butler; Odin freaks out when he runs into Lissa and tries to keep himself from saying anything about him being her time traveled son. Lissa says Odin is a cool name and says she'll giver her son that name, which doesn't make any sense because Odin isn't his real name; Laslow tells Chrom to give his regards to Olivia when Chrom eventually meets her; Selena tells Chrom to go on a date with Cordelia, because fuck her father I guess; Chrom mistakes Caeldori for Cordelia, while Caeldrori falls in love with him at first sight; Ophelia becomes fast friends with her grandmother and almost shows her mark of the Exalt.

After battle, Chrom thanks Corrin for fighting alongside him, while Corrin apologizes for dragging the Sheppards into their mess. Chrom gives Corrin the Exalt’s Brand and Hero’s Brand, which allow class change into Great Lord and Lodestar respectively, so that they’ll be able to fight the challenges in their world. Frederick gives a pebble, a reference to a running gag from Awakening, except in this game it’s actually a shuriken you can use in battle. The chapter ends with Chrom and Lissa talking about how they need to get a tactician like Corrin before running into Robin, recreating the begining of Awakening. This makes no sense, because the Northroad is several days north of where they found Robin.

Well, that chapter was fairly pointless. The interactions between Fates characters and Awakening ones were great, Jakob and Frederick in particular have a fantastic conversation, but the chapter is hampered by only featuring three Awakening characters. At least it was free.

Support: Laslow/Odin C: Odin does his chunibyo shit instead of training. Laslow threatens to tell Leo, so Odin threatens to tell Xander about the flirting. The two of them decide to train together and reminisce about their old friends. While they spar, Laslow names a special move to humor Odin. B: Laslow discusses how their new names feel so familiar. Odin says he feels tempted to stay in Nohr. Laslow says they shouldn't be making friends because it will make leaving harder. A: Laslow worried that his memories of Awakening are fake. Odin says it has to be real, because of the memories of meeting Lissa and killing Grima. Laslow says he wouldn't be able to manage if he had been separated from Odin and Selena like he was in Awakening. Laslow brings up the Harvest Festival Awakening DLC, which is canon I guess, in which Odin promised to always be there for him. The duo call eachother by their real names and walk away smiling. Review: The reminiscing about Awakening, complex feelings about the friendships in Nohr, and above all the pure friendship between these two makes this support excellent.

Support: Odin/Selena C: Selena feels sad because she misses Ylisse. Odin decides to cheer her up. B: Selena has a dream of the Hot Springs DLC from Awakening, which continues to be canon. Also in this dream, people think Odin is cool, which will never be canon. It is revealed to the player that Odin has been manipulating her dreams to cheer her up, something that he is apparently capable of doing. A: Selena realizes Odin was in her room and gets pissed. Odin comes clean about giving Selena happy dreams. Selena accepts his apology, but says she'll end him if he does it again. S: Selena gets back at Odin by whispering in his ear when he sleeps to mess with his dreams. Odin proposes. Selena demands he drop the Odin act and propose normally. He does and its sweet. Review: Bit torn on this one. On one hand, we get good friends who care about each other. On the other hand, this is ridiculously creepy.

Support: Laslow/Selena C: Laslow hits on Selena. She gets mad and points out he's still immature. B: Selena gets back at Laslow by hitting on him. He is unnerved. A: Selena apologizes for hitting on Laslow. This is fucking bullshit, fuck Laslow. The two of them talk about how lonely they feel, but at least they have each other. S: Laslow gives Selena a bracelet as a symbol of his everlasting...friendship. Selena asks if he gave Odin one. Unfortunately, he didn't. They get engaged. Review: This is the problem with Supports in general. Character development doesn’t stick. Even after all the conversations in both games, Laslow is still a creep. And fuck having Selena apologize.

Support: Asugi/Caeldori C: Caeldori writes Asugi up for dress code violations because he's covered in flour. What the fuck is she talking about? There aren't dress codes in this army. B: Asugi cooks but makes a mess of the kitchen. Caeldori is mad until she tries his cake. A: Caeldori offers to clean the kitchen as Asugi bakes, because his cakes are so damn good. Asugi says he'll clean for himself but is happy for her help. S: They get together. Review: Incredibly average.

i did not expect to like lissa as much as i do. she's cute and bubbly and is my sunshine child in a game with so many hardships. it took me some time to warm up to her but i now absolutely adore her (and it doesn't hurt that in warriors she's swinging around a bigass axe like it's nothing -- girlboss shit right there)

Favorite moment of theirs

i've always liked the scene after fighting "marth" in ferox where lissa starts going on about how "he's so dark and mysterious... he's so dreamy..." it's just very funny to me knowing that it's actually her niece she's talking about. i don't have a great recollection of awakening because it's been a while since i last played but every so often i think about that bit and have a little giggle.

good LORD i do not remember. i went through some of her supports and the ones with frederick are standing out among them (also, i don't think i unlocked half of those in game! they feel very new to me). i think the idea of lissa teaching frederick to relax is goddamn hilarious and would be a sight to see.

okay so she's already got valentines and winter yeah? i'd love to see a halloween alt for her. she's got the right energy to really have a good time in costume and i just think it'd be a fun little time!

Fire emblem Awakining story

Robin’s mom's name is Anastasia.

“Anastasia..” Validar said creepily as he was searching for her.

She stayed quiet fearing for her and her daughters’ safety.  She shutters hearing her “Husband”’s voice. Her rapid steps slightly make a slight sound. “Aha! There you are!”He exclaims.  Anastasia readies lightning magic in her free hand. “Archthunder!” Anastasia yelled as she aimed for a pillar to distract him. The thunder hits the post next to Validar, begins to crumble, and lands on him. As it landed on him she ran far away.

After a long time running, she finally stops for a breather “Kathrine… Mia… you’ll be safe with me.” She gently says. At the same time, she says that Kathrine coos. “Well let’s get walking my children. Ylisse won’t come to us..” She said she walked and walked for weeks until she got to Ylisse’s capital. 

“Halt! What is your business with her grace?” A guard exclaimed.

“I need to be hidden from my husband… I cannot explain why.” She said 

“Sorry ma'am, but that is none of her grace’s business.” The guard said. As Anastasia began to walk away she heard a young girl’s voice. “Halt! Ms. I will help you.” She turned around and saw the exalt!  Anastasia begins to give a courtesy but Emmeryn stops her. “There is no need for that. How may I help you?“ “Please, I need to hide... I… I'm afraid my husband did something to my daughters. I want them to be raised as normal girls..” She cried. Emmeryn thought for a moment. “I’m afraid I can only give you an old abandoned house. Is that alright?” Emmeryn asked. “Yes, that would be lovely. Thank you.” Anastasia said a guard led her somewhere to sit down. 

“Do you think it is wise to let a Plegain into the kingdom?” Phila asked. “Yes, She is seeking asylum because of her husband. My heart made its decision when I heard her plea.”

Chapter one.

“Kids supper is ready!”  Anastasia told her girls. The girls stopped playing whatever game they made up and headed to their mother. As they were eating Anastasia asked the girls a question. “ If you could do anything in the world. What would you do?” Kathrine and Mia were excited. “I want to be a tactician like you Mom! Heading into battle with a mighty tome!” Kathrine exclaimed. “I want to be a pegasus knight!” Said Mia. “Well you two, those jobs are hard-working professions. So you’ll have to work hard. You also -” Anastasia was cut off by her girls. “Have to hide your marks…”  They finished her sentence. “Good!” Anastasia said out of love for her kids. 

Chapter 2

Ten years later. The twins are 22 and are sleeping in a field.  Chrom, Lissa, and Fredrick happen upon them. “Chrom look!” Lissa exclaimed pointing at the sisters. “Let’s go check on them, Lissa.” Chrom said as he and Lissa walked to the young women. 

“Chrom, We HAVE to do something.” Lissa said as the twins opened their eyes. “Well, what do you suppose we do?”Chrom said.  Uh... I don't know!... (turns from Chrom to the twins)

“I see you’re  awake now.” Chrom said, Lissa giggled and said “Hey there.” “There are better places to take a nap than on the ground you know. Here give me your hand. Lissa takes the other one’s hand.”

The twins take one of the royal’s hands and pull them up. 

“You two alright?” Chrom asked the twins.  “Yes, Thank you sir.” They said in unison. “My name is Chrom. What are yours?” He asked. “My name is Kathrine, This is my twin sister Mia.” She said. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I dream of being a Pegasus knight.” Mia said.  “Oh, really? I can personally recommend you to Phila. If you would like.” Chrom spoke Mia gasped.  “P-Phila?!” “is there something wrong Mia?” Kathrine asked her sister. “Phila is the leader of the pegasus knights! So i would love that Chrom.” Mia replied. “Milord, are you sure you want a stranger to join the knights?” Frederick spoke up.  “Who is this Chrom?” asked Kathrine. “My name is Frederick, I serve Lord Chrom and Lady Lissa.” Frederick said. “Wait, Are you two royalty?!” Asked Kathrine. 

Chapter 3

“Yes, We are!” Lissa said gleefully. “But don’t treat us any differently,” Chrom added in.  “How about it Mia? Will you let me take you to meet Phila?” He asked. “I would gladly. Kathrine, would you tell Mother I’ll be late getting home?” Mia asked her sister. Kathrine was surprised by her sister. “Mia Mother told us never to go somewhere without the other! I’m not leaving you alone.” Kathrine held out her bandaged hand’s pinky finger to intertwine it with Mia. Mia smiled and used her pinky and intertwined it with her sister. “Kathrine, Mia is one of  your hands injured?” Chrom asked her. “No, I just can’t say why we have to cover one of our hands,” Kathrine explained. Chrom nods and heads to a nearby town. Lissa smells smoke and notices the town is on fire.  “Chrom, look at the town!” She exclaimed. “ Damn it! The town is ablaze! Those blasted brigands, no doubt... Frederick, Lissa! Quickly!” Exclaimed Chrom drawing his sword. 

“What about them m’lord?” Frederick gestures at the twins. 

“Unless they are on fire they can wait.” Chrom said.

“Aptly put m’lord.” Fredrick said.

“Let’s go already!” Lissa said.

Chrom, Lissa , and Fredrick leave for the village.

“But what about-hm…” Kathrine said with a moment of indecision she decides to follow them.

“Kathrine wait!” Mia said jumping on her pegasus that was nearby and following them. 

Garrick a bandit leader began to talk when they got there. “Gwa ha ha! Get to it, lads! Grab anything shiny, and put the rest to the torch! We gots an example to set for these Ylissean types! Ain't that right, lass?”

A maiden yells out “S-stay away from me! Please! Someone! HEEEEEELP!”

“Chrom, we have to stop them!” exclaimed Lissa.

“Don't worry—after today, these bandits won't be bothering anyone ever again…” Chrom reassured Lissa.

Kathrine and Mia run up to Chrom and the others.

“Wait!” Kathrine said.

“You followed us. Why?” Chrom asked confused.

“I couldn’t stand the idea of innocent people getting hurt. We know around a fight if you’ll have us.” She explained.

“Of course- strength in numbers. Just stay close.” Chrom said.

“Remember, Kathrine, we face practiced thieves and murderers. They will grant us no quarter. It's kill or be killed.”  Fredrick spoke.

Kathrine readies her tome and prepares to fight with Chrom.

“So, Kathrine, I see you wear a sword. Is it— Wait, is that a tome? …You know magic?” Chrom inquired.

“Yes, I do.  My mother taught me.” She replied with a grin.

“You’ll have to tell me about her later.” He spoke.

After the battle

“Well, that's the end of that.” Kathrine said to them.

“Lucky for the town, we were close by. But holy wow, Kathrine! You were incredible! Swords, sorcery, AND tactics! Is there anything you can't do?” Lissa exclaimed.

“You two are sure no helpless victim that’s for sure.” Chrom sighed in relief.

“Indeed, an interesting coincidence is why you two and the bandit share an accent?” Frederick questioned

“Well, We were secluded area of Ylisse with only a few people. We kept to ourselves and didn’t really talk to anyone else.” Mia said

“You fought to save Ylissean lives. My heart says that's enough.” Chrom said

“And your mind, milord? Will you now heed its council as well?” Asked Fredrick.

“Frederick, the Shepherds could use someone with Kathrine's talents. We've brigands and unruly neighbors, all looking to bloody our soil. Would you really have us lose such an able tactician? Besides, I believe their story, odd as it might be.”Chrom spoke to Fredrick.

“Thank you, Chrom..” Kathrine said.

“So how about it Kathrine? Will you join us?” Asked Chrom offering a hand to Kathrine.

“I would be honored Chrom.” Kathrine said taking his hand and shaking it.

draco’s hurried steps were heard echoing across the hallway as he rapidly made his way downstairs, cussing his boss out under his breath for calling him on a fucking Sunday. the same sunday he was about to spend basking in the love of his wife and child, all expectations now turned to mush.

“i’m sorry i have to go, my love. call me if you need anything, okay?” spoke draco, tone soft as he held your face in his hands, giving you one last sad smile before pressing a sweet kiss on your lips.

you gave him a feeble nod in response with a reassuring smile, watching him storm off in long strides, still swearing in hushed whispers and with a flick of his wand, he was gone.

you instantly took notice of how intense the atmosphere got around the manor- almost scary. deadly quiet with your four-year-old toddler still asleep and big curtains blocking any sunlight from coming in.

it almost caused goosebumps to rise on your arms as if the universe was already warning you of the day you were gonna have to deal with today.

maybe the first bad thing to happen today was being woken up by draco’s phone going off like crazy with calls of his boss and endless text messages of his colleagues.

it didn’t matter though, you had other things to worry about. your toddler was already walking down the stairs with a sleepy stare as she made her way to you, immediately taking notice of how there was no trace of draco, and looking around for any signs of her father.

“hi there” you greeted, giving her a sympathetic smile when she asked for draco, her small body already wrapped around your torso. a small sigh with a brief explanation of a work emergency was given to her. her sour mood amplifying a tenfold for every word that left your mouth.

she stayed quiet for a moment, and just as you started beaming at the thought of calming a daddy’s girl- she sobbed heavily in your ear, clinging hard to you but still screaming for draco.

a grimace found its way to your face along with a sorrowful expression as you shushed her down, tracing your fingers down her spine; a small trick you always did to relax her in days like this.

her sobs quieted down but she still cried silently in your shoulder, hot tears rolling down her face that had you questioning whether you should call your husband or not, the thought accompanying the insecurity of being a terrible mother who can barely keep her child tranquil.

after a few minutes of letting her pour all her emotions out, you made a path to the kitchen and sat her down on the barstool, wiping her tears away as she huffed in what seemed to be an angry expression.

“would you like some breakfast, baby?” you spoke, tone soft and slow as to not aggravate the situation.

“i want daddy”

“he’s- he’s not here right now” you tried to reason, watching as she took a deep breath but said nothing.

you turned around to head for the stove. but your ears caught a small murmur of “you’re the worst” coming from none other than your daughter.

a thunder-struck look adorned your face, blinking back the tears that found their way to your waterline.

ever since you found out you were pregnant, the anxiousness of being a not good enough mom had filled you in seconds, thinking of the worst scenarios possible throughout the pregnancy. draco was always there to ease your nerves a bit, yet, never quite pushing them away completely.

and jesus- did that simple three-word sentence stung painfully at your heart.

you stayed frozen in place for a few moments before taking a deep breath and quickly collecting yourself, continuing your errands around the kitchen as you made an effort to ignore the way your hands became clammy and heartstrings were pulled harshly in your chest.

the rest of the day went painfully slow, your daughter completely ignoring you and just curling up on the couch or playing in her room, always slamming the door in your face whenever you attempted to talk to her. your back also aching from having to do all house chores by yourself. every once in a while getting a text message from draco, rushed typos of “i love you” and “i’m gonna be there soon”.

the clock read 6:07 P.M and you held the cigarette to your lips with shaky fingers, tears blurring your vision as all the frustration from today came crashing down at once.

sobs rocked through your body as you inhaled the smoke and blew it out past your nostrils. warm, thick tears not coming to a halt even once.

your cries muffled every sound around you. not taking notice of draco who was now frantically searching for you, already finding your daughter safe and asleep on the couch. yet you were nowhere to be found.

it took one look at the cigarette package on the dining table for draco to locate you. he knew about your anxiety and how bad it got when triggered.

his heart ached and fists clenched at his side as he turned to his baby girl, snuggling her deeper into the thick fluffy blanket before making his way to the porch where you sat with a hand to your sternum, big clouds of smoke fogging the air around you.

“oh, baby” he sympathized, not giving you time to react as he enveloped you in a big hug, feeling the way your curled your fists on his shirt and sobbed quietly, taking ragged breaths every once in a while.

after a few minutes of taking shallow breaths, you pulled your head back from his chest, just enough to stare at his face, his bright grey eyes running down every feature you had, almost like he was studying it.

“what happened today?” he whispered, closing his eyes and connecting his forehead with yours.

you released a breath through your nose and lit off the cigarette on the small table next to you before explaining every small detail from today to draco, a few tears escaping at some points.

once you were done, draco removed his head from yours, pulling back and displaying both of his palms on your cheeks, observing your tear-stained face made him ache with sorrow.

“my love” he started “you are the world’s greatest mother to ever exist, a bad day with your child does not define your abilities as a mom. she loves you, we all do. you don’t know how fuzzy she gets when you’re not here.”

his words made a small smile crack through your lips, buzzing nerves slowly weighing down after every syllable he spoke.

“we would all be doomed if it wasn’t for you. every parent has a bad day, do not beat yourself up for it, it happens to the best of us.” he finalized, chest swelling with pride once he saw how you were full-on beaming, puckering your lips like a silent sign for a kiss which he gladly provided.

“i love you” you mumbled against his mouth.

“i love you more” he responded.

G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.)

He’s a sap so he try’s not to be humourus, he wants the sex to be romantic and he can’t risk turning you off with one of his lame dad jokes.

H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)

It’s a mess, he’s tried to shave it, comb it, trim it, it’ll just grow back. It definitely matches his head hair.

I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)

Like said before, James wants the sex to be romantic. He likes holding your hand and kissing your shoulder’s and lips until they're rosy. He just wants to take care of you.

J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon)

Pretty often, he gets stressed sometimes so he’ll just get out a quick wank before heading to class in the morning or late at night.

K = Kink (one or more of their kinks)

He has a ton, d/s is very present and the roles switch between you both often. Power play is a must and he has a big thing for bondage, he loves all the different knots and shapes, he thinks the ropes look pretty against your skin. There’s others like makeup, he weirdly finds it attractive when mascara runs down your cheeks.

L = Location (favorite places to do the do)

Usually in his dorm, he prefers to have his time and spend every second admiring and taking care of you. He rarely would want to do something out of order and he needs a quick notice before trying a new location. He usually promises you he’ll satisfy you later if you become needy during class or at hogsmeade.

M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)

Everything, fuck me eyes go along way for him. Sometimes you don’t even mean to get him going and he’s rushing you up to his dorm. He likes the uniforms too, he’d purposely mix up your robes or house ties just so people would know you’d belong to a certain wizard.

N = No (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)

He’d like spanking to a minimum, but the second he sees blood he freaks out. Even bruises make him worry and he’d begin to cry and kiss over it, promising you he’d never mean to hurt you and he’d be super careful next time.

O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)

He prefers receiving it, since he likes the stability of cumming down your throat. But if he’s subby he’s prefer to give you pleasure, he just wants to please you.

P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)

Depends, sometimes after a quidditch game (depending if he won or lost) he’d take it out on you, rough and fast sex was a must so he could released all of his pent up tension. But then he’d get really soft and gentle to soothe over the rough behaviour. If he’s subby, he’ll let you control everything.

Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)

Personally he doesn’t like it, a quick blow job in between classes is alright with him or even a quick fuck in the showers in the changing rooms, but he prefers his time and he’d rather have you all to himself for a few hours.

R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.)

Not necessarily, he likes boundaries so you both talk over them often and he’d just do whatever was in the green zone. Sometimes if he’s being a hard dom he’ll try a risky move, wait for you reaction and depending on that he’ll keep it up or drop it immediately.

S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)

Oh boy… he’s not the Gryffindor quidditch caption for nothing. He’s athletic, charming, and a golden retriever boyfriend. He definitely can go for 4 or 5, depending on his mood and on time, since it doesn’t take much to make him cum.

T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?)

He doesn’t, he’s a bit embarrassed but he definitely isn’t opposed to watching you play with yourself. He actually loves mutual masterbation and he enjoys watching you show him all the things that make you feel good.

U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)

He hates teasing you but loves when you tease him, every little look or if you grab his arm for protection, he’s creaming in his pants. Whenever you whisper in his ear, even if it isn’t sexual, he’s gulping and fixing his trousers.

V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)

Subby James moans a lot, he whines and whispers and he likes to talk. But more dominant James groans and whispers cusses (which is the only time he rarely swears because he hates cuss words).

W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)

He enjoys morning sex way to much, he likes the sunlight beaming in and the slow and groggy movements due to being sleepy, he loves the little whines and enjoys the cold air from the morning cooling off his hot skin.

X = X-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes)

A solid nine inches, come on he’s James Potter. He’s quite proud of it too, smirking whenever he see’s a tummy bulge or even when you have trouble standing after sex.

Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?)

It’s high to the extreme, he never knew how horny he truly was until he began to date you. Every day he wanted to take you to his dorm and try new things, he wanted to be cocooned in between your legs.

Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)

If he’s had a long day, it doesn’t take long. He’s a gentleman so he’ll kill you to sleep before he passes out, but sometimes you’d get back from the bathroom and see him sprawled out, a big grin on his face.

Fire Emblem Awakening: The intended couples After all these years of regularly posting ships I came to realize I never posted my final conclusions for Fire Emblem Awakening. I’ll try to go in depth for each couple/child and why I think these were supposed to be the default couples. These couples are based upon their story, not on their best possible stats. In case you are curious: spoilers ahead! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chrom & Sumia This an obvious one, they are the poster couple, the true default and the easiest attainable. Sumia is already crushing on Chrom beforehand, plus she is somewhat featured in the story early on as opposed to other love interests. The only competition to Sumia would have been Olivia and Robin. If you are playing female Robin, I would recommend her with Chrom and Sumia with Frederick. Olivia doesn’t make sense because Inigo (Laslow) flirts with DLC Lucina in Fire Emblem Fates. This would be creepy if they were considered siblings. Sumia also makes a lot of sense for Lucina as a mother, because their support is mainly about fashion, Sully wouldn’t make sense here. Chrom is also a good dad for Cynthia as he might be the biggest hero of them all. Lucina and Cynthia as siblings are also a reflection of Chrom and Lissa themselves. Cynthia has a similar hairstyle and is a bit tomboy-ish, like her aunt.

Robin & Lucina Since male Robin is the default option, I’ll use him for this example. Robin is really difficult to find the fight pair for, especially with the DLC characters added. Walhart and Aversa both offered unique skills and white hair, which would be nice for Morgan. But since Morgan’s default class is Tactician, it makes sense that their parent is also someone who makes sure they get that passed down. Lucina ultimately wins over these candidates, simply because her confession image is the ONLY one with a different background. Marrying her to Robin also gives them unique dialogue options down the road during the story. It’s also interesting that the blood of the exalt and the blood of Grima are both in Morgan. Additionally if you keep your characters their base class and play the paralogue at level 20 (which I use for every child unit) Morgan will have Aether and will learn Ignis later on, having both unique offensive skills. And finally, because the pairing of Robin and Lucina is so complex, the third timeline Morgan comes from makes more sense.

 Lissa & Vaike

Lissa was a difficult one to pair because she matches well with almost anyone and Owain doesn’t really reveal any traits. It was either Vaike or Henry. Lissa and Vaike are both laid back and bond with their admiration of Chrom. Vaike yells several catchphrases into battle, which is probably what Owain adopted, though a bit over the top. He gets his blonde hair from Vaike, to match Lissa’s hair color, similar to how Lucina looks like her father. Owain and Vaike both aspire to become great heroes and he would definitely take an arrow for Owain. Vaike’s default class also gives Owain Zeal, which gives him extra critical hit points. A nice treat for a myrmidon.

 Sully & Stahl

I try to avoid same-classes as couples because those seem really obvious. Sully and Stahl are an exception though. They’re often used side-by-side, which helps to grow their supports. It might also be fanservice for people who shipped Cain and Abel. Stahl scores good points because he is one of a few characters with an affinity for food. It makes sense for him to be able to cook for Kjelle, but also to have tested Sully’s food. On top of that, by having two cavalier parents, Kjelle will have both cavalier skills on top of her knight skills, making her a two-in-one.

 Miriel & Kellam

Miriel was the hardest character to pair someone with, since Laurent gives of no hint of his father’s dna at all. But that’s where the clue lies. Kellam’s undetectability also works for his genes, creating a Miriel clone in the process. It doesn’t seem out of place for him to tickle Laurent to loosen him up. The Indoor Fighter skill is also very much an introvert skill. Miriel’s ending also mentions how she made history, which works incredible with Kellam’s: “her husband’s name has been lost to history”

 Maribelle & Donnel

It’s either him or Vaike. They both have an accent, which Brady inherited, they are both commoners which is a nice contrast next to her and they both help her develop as a character. Donnel’s Underdog skill on Brady makes sense and Donnel doesn’t exactly seem like the person to take a moment for tea, but would rather keep working. Maribelle ending up living with Donnel’s mom also is a hysterical ending.

 Panne & Henry

Henry already likes her for being part animal. He’s also the reason she went to safe the exalt. There isn’t anyone else that works with Panne the way Henry does. He loves animals so it makes sense for him to get an animal-like child. Panne claims she might be the only one to be able to change Henry, which is probably why he turned out a good father. Henry’s starting chapter is 13, which is also Yarne’s paralogue number. And who wouldn’t be a scared mess with a father like Henry?

 Cordelia & Gregor

One of the easiest ones. Gregor makes it obvious in their A-support that he is into Cordelia, so it’s canon regardless who you pair them up with. Gregor also makes sense why Severa acts so spoiled, but also caused her to work hard for what she wants. She also became a mercenary like him, avoiding pegasi that remind her of her mom. I’ve always wished I could pair up Cordelia with Chrom though…

 Nowi & Ricken

The oldest with the youngest. Ricken is statistically the partner who would stick around the longest with Nowi. Her old but childish nature matches very well with Ricken’s young but maturing nature. Nah really reflects that Ricken energy, trying to prove her worth to others and acting more mature than they are. Nah really had to grow up fast, having two children for parents. And that she gets a serious skill like Focus, just confirms this only more.

 Tharja & Gaius

Their support is a good lead-up to a romance. I don’t think him liking bad girls was part of the curse. They’re both not the nicest people, though their intentions aren’t too bad. They couldn’t care less about their odd couple ending. Gaius is the perfect person to steal Tharja’s equipment to protect Noire. Having an archer with extra movement is nice too, especially considering it’s our meek Noire.

 Olivia & Virion

The entire reason my couple hunt started. Olivia says in their A-support that she find Virion dreamy, so once again it’s a canon attraction regardless their pairings. Olivia obviously taught what she learned from Virion to Inigo, which is why he acts and looks like him so much. He has a similar way of speaking as him and even his hair looks somewhat like a shorter version of his. Virion’s default archer class also offers Inigo Prescience, which works well with his already existing Patience skill, giving him permanent +10 on dodging.

 Cherche & Lon’qu

Every female support Lon’qu has, helps him ease his fear. But Cherche really takes the cake with that. She helps him learn the truth of his past and overcome his trauma. Her knitting him warm clothes in the cold Regna Ferox is a neat detail in their ending. His aloof nature is passed onto Gerome and them being distant towards each other makes a lot of sense. And Gerome with vantage makes wyverns even scarier.

Casting Thoughts

Yes, I did a long post when the rumours first dropped but hey now it’s confirmed plus we have characters descriptions, and I’m bored so let’s do this all over again people.  Under the cut because it got long

Sisi Stringer as Rose Hathaway

I said this in my other post but I’m pretty happy with Sisi as Rose.

Visually I think she’s a great fit, I love that they casted a WoC in the main role, and I think if she can bring Rose’s humour and sarcasm to the role, she’s going to do great.

The character description mentions Rose being “fiery and outspoken”, happy to jump into the action, and the strongest fighter in her class but struggling to toe the line, which is all very Rose-esque, especially in the first book.  It sounds to me like they have a good grasp on her character.

I’m a little disappointed we didn’t hear more about Rose as a character since she is the lead - it felt like the descriptions for Lissa and Dimitri both gave us a little more to go on - but it is only a very preliminary description so I’m happy to wait for more.

Daniela Nieves as Lissa Dragomir

Daniele is another one who I was happy with straight away.

She’s probably not what I imagined for Lissa visually but that’s not a bad thing either; I will be interested to see if they dye her hair a lighter colour (like a caramel-blonde) but personally that’s not something I need to see for her to be a great fit for Lissa.

I think she has a very sweet face which works well for a character like Lissa but I think she’s also going to be able to stand up in Lissa’s more fiercer moments which is nice to see as well.

The character descriptions mentions her as being “carefree and kind-hearted” who “coasts” through life until a death in the family thrusts her into a new role.  That sounds a lot like pre-series Lissa so I wonder if we’re going to see a bit of that in the show before Andre (and her parents??) die and see that change.  

It’s curious though that she’s described as the younger sister of the heir apparent - which would be Andre - so it sounds like they’ve changed it so Andre was supposed to be King.  Obviously a deviation from the books but I don’t hate it?  I don’t think it would change Lissa’s arc all that much because obviously she was always going to grow up to be an influential royal figure, this just slightly changes the dynamics of it.

The description also specifically mentions that she’s uninterested in “political machinations” and the “hypocrisy of the moroi royal society” which sounds very accurate to book!lissa as well.

All in all I’m very happy with what they’re doing with Lissa.

Keiron Moore as Dimitri Belikov

This is one who’s really grown on me since the rumoured cast list started circulating.  At first I was kind of eh about him but I can really see him as Dimitri now.

I will be curious to see if he grows out his hair or not though.

As far as I know Keiron is not Russian, there’s not a lot about him online, but there’s some instagram activity on his account linking him to UK based companies so that would be my guess as to where he’s from.  They’ve kept Dimitri’s incredibly Russian name so I guess we’re to assume Keiron might be doing an accent and they’re keeping Dimitri’s backstory relatively the same?  I’m not gonna be super mad if they change it just because I think it’s doable for him not to be Russian (I know, I know a whole book is set in Russia but lbr here they could make him from anywhere and just send Rose there in that book).

The biggest thing for me will be his chemistry with Sisi, Danila and Zoey had great chemistry (imo anyway) which saved the move a little for me, so it’ll be important that Sisi and Keiron do as well.  They’ve interacted a few times online which is cute so I’m hoping they were able to do some chemistry reads and that will translate on screen.

The character description mentions Dimitri as being “lethal, disciplined, discreet, and totally committed” as well as living by “a deep moral code” but with more going on “beneath his stoic, watchful surface” which sounds exactly like book!Dimitri to me.

They don’t really specify what his role at St Vlad’s is going to be but they do mention that he is a guardian so I’m assuming they’re keeping some sort of age gap between him and Rose.  They also don’t mention anything about their relationship in the description, be it student/teacher, platonic, romantic, whatever, but they do say he has “an expansive spirit that could threaten to expose the underlying tension between his sense of what’s right and his formal duty to the Moroi.” which seems like a nod to their relationship.

Andre Dae-Kim as Christian Ozera

This was one of my favourite casting choices from the original rumoured cast list and I still love it.

The idea of a non-white Christian makes a lot of sense to me and I think Andre could do a great job of Christian’s aloofness (in the first book) as well as his sarcasm and growing confidence across the other books.

His character description confuses me a bit though: “Intelligent and thoughtful, Christian is the pariah of the school and royal court, due to his parents’ unforgivable societal sins.” sounds accurate enough to the book (although idk if thoughtful is quite the word I’d use for Christian - maybe they mean it in the sense that he’s quiet and keeps to himself?).

Even “Well-read and hungry for knowledge” doesn’t sound that far off, idk if he was *that* particularly studious in the books, but it doesn’t necessarily not make sense either you know?

But “he searches for faith-based answers and discovers a kindred spirit who is also looking for the truth” ??? My cynical, irreverent asshole Christian is now a man of faith? I’m assuming Lissa is the “kindred spirit” (again weird word choice but maybe they mean she’s feeling lost because of the death of her family?) but I just cannot see Christian as being particularly religious.

I’m trying to keep an open mind about these changes because you never know they might play out totally different on screen, but I really hope they didn’t make these changes, particularly that Christian is studious and religious, just because they cast an Asian actor as him (because they feel a little like Asian stereotypes).

J August Richards as Victor Dashkov

This is one that didn’t appear on the original rumoured cast list (as far as I saw) and it’s so different to his description in the books that I kind of don’t have an opinion about it as a casting choice.

I’ve never seen him in anything before so purely on a visual level I think he could be a great fit for Victor, I just think it’ll really come down to how he plays it.

As for this character description: “Victor is a Moroi noble vampire with a heart of gold who’s highly regarded for his role as advisor and political strategist to Moroi dignitaries.” as well as mentioning that he has intelligence and influence, sounds pretty accurate to the book.  Obviously if Andre was the heir to the throne, Victor had to be shifted out of that role, but I think his book 1 arc could still work if they wanted it to.

The “heart of gold” bit obviously made me chuckle and I really hope they threw it in there as a kind of decoy to throw non-book-readers off the fact that he’s actually the villain in book 1/s1.

As for giving him a husband and two daughters, my thoughts are: why the fuck not? He didn’t have a love interest in the original books and I’m always down for more lgbtq+ rep.  My only concern is it maybe playing into the trope of evil/villain characters being queer-coded.  And as for having two daughters, well as long as one of them is Natalie I don’t mind.

Anita-Joy Uwajeh as Tatiana Vogel

Okay this is the most bizarre one imo, not because of the casting, but just the character description.

I mean “Tatiana is a Moroi vampire and political underdog who slowly takes the royal court by storm. Motivated by love and a sense of justice, Tatiana has a unique skill of making herself seem of no consequence until we realize much too late that she was always the one to watch.” sounds extremely Tasha Ozera to me, so like why not just make this character Tasha?  Nothing about this sounds like Tatiana, and Tatiana wasn’t even a Vogel anyway (well Vogel wasn’t even one of the 12 royal families), she was an Ivashkov.

In terms of Anita-Joy herself, well I mean we don’t really have a character to compare her to, is she supposed to be more like Tasha or Tatiana?  She looks fairly young, so my guess is actually on Tasha, but we’ll have to wait to see I guess.

Mia McKenna-Bruce as Mia Karp

This is another one that I was instantly a fan of.

I was so not a fan of Mia’s casting in the movie (I can’t even remember who played her tbh but I really didn’t like it) so this Mia is a lot closer to how I imagine her.

I think she’ll be able to carry Mia’s transformation from bratty social-climber to badass fighter really well.

The character description is interesting though.  “Witty, cutting, and just the right kind of ruthless when necessary, non-Royal Mia has a long-term plan to social climb her way into the ranks of royalty, with all the privilege and freedom that entails.” sound pretty bang on to Mia in the first book.

“A plan complicated by her instant chemistry with Meredith, a Guardian-in-training, as Mia struggles to reconcile her attraction to Meredith with her lowly status.” is an obvious deviation though, and one I kind of love???  Give me all the queer rep, and if we get to see Mia confront the issue of comp-het I’m so here for it.  

It’s kind of funny though because I’ve seen theories that Meredith is a replacement for Eddie and Mia/Eddie has always been my sort of rarepair ship.

The last name Karp is weird af though.  Is she supposed to be Sonya’s daughter?  And if that’s the case I wonder if we’re going to actually see Sonya turn Strigoi in the show’s first season or something and that triggers the change in Mia?  Interesting concept but I’m not sure how the timeline will work.

Rhian Blundell as Meredith

So this is another new one, and tbh I hadn’t given Meredith *that* much though in the past but she’s probably close to how I would have pictured her which is cool.

The elephant in the room with this casting is that Meredith’s role in the books was relatively minor - she was just kind of that character that got brought up whenever R.M needed a dhampir who wasn’t Rose/Dimitri/Mason/Eddie.  So clearly she’s going to have a bigger role in the tv show which I don’t mind but I do wonder if we’re going to lose a character - probably Eddie lbr - in order to have her.  They haven’t casted an Eddie yet as far as we know, but I have seen it pointed out that Eddie’s role in book 1 was pretty small so maybe they just aren’t announcing it.  But there’s also the possibility that maybe Meredith will sort of replace Eddie and be the third part of Rose and Mason’s friendship.

I’m very interested by this part of her character description though, “She has little patience for Rose’s volatility or Mia’s elitism, and regularly calls both of them out.”

Jonetta Kaiser as Sonya Karp

I don’t necessarily dislike Jonetta as Sonya but I am confused by this choice.  She looks fairly young, which tbf Sonya was young-ish I guess, but if Mia is supposed to be her daughter she doesn’t look old enough to have a teenaged daughter.  So maybe Sonya and Mia are sisters? Cousins? Just have each other’s last names for no reason? I really don’t know.  They also look nothing alike.

Other than that, I don’t really have an opinion about Jonetta as Sonya.  Obviously looks nothing like how Sonya was described but that’s not new nor a massive concern for me.  

I can’t really tell just from looking at her, and I haven’t seen her in anything, if she would play a good Sonya.  I think with a lot of the characters it’s going to come down to the personality they bring to the part and the writing.

I looooooove her character description though:  “Quiet, careful and decidedly odd, Sonya is not of royal bloodline and sits out on the fringe of Moroi society, preferring to spend her time in the library or her gardens. Not a person who likes a scene, nonetheless she has a quiet but profound power of her own. She is taken by surprise when a Dhampir Guardian named Mikhail shows interest in her, a relationship that will expose both the brightest and darkest parts of her heart.”  It’s everything I would probably want from a description of Sonya and I’m more and more convinced that we’re going to see Sonya’s descent into madness and transformation into a Strigoi play out in maybe the first season which I am so curious how they’re going to work into the timeline.

Andrew Liner as Mason Ashford

Our last one and another one who doesn’t look remotely like his description but again? Not a surprise and not a problem for me.  He looks like he could play Mason’s goofiness really well as well as be a solid contender for a love interest for Rose.

“Charming, loyal and popular, Mason is Rose’s main competition in the quest to become the No. 1 Guardian-in-training. Though their relationship is casual on her side, he is hopeful she will finally look at him and see him as something more.” His character description makes a lot of sense, maybe him being Rose’s main competition is a bit of a deviation? But I think that’s more an indication that he’s supposed to be a strong fighter which isn’t inaccurate to the books.  The rest sounds great.

Other Thoughts

Descriptions of the show specifically mention friendship and classism as major themes which I am very happy to hear about because those are the two parts of VA that I love the most.

Am a little more worried about it being described as “sexy” though, if they shove a whole bunch of meaningless sex scenes in it just because it’s a YA show I’m not gonna be happy.

Seen the show compared to “Game of Thrones” and “Bridgerton” which at first had me like oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck not good not good not good.  But thinking about it more and trying to understand where Plec’s coming from with that description I wonder if means similar to GoT as in the cut-throat nature of the Moroi/Dhampir society cause I can kind of see that.  And as for Bridgerton I wonder if she’s referring to the kind of social-climbing aspects of it, because again that makes sense and it seems like a theme she really wants to concentrate on.  I hope that’s what she means by those comparisons, or that she just wants to compare it to popular shows to get people to watch it.  The worst would be if she tries to throw in a lot of unnecessary sex scenes to make it like those shows, because I hate when they do that, especially when the characters are teenagers.

Interesting to hear that Plec has known about the series since before Twilight or TVD - not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

Seems like it’s actually mostly (or all??) written by Marguerite MacIntyre which is interesting because I know people were worried about Julie Plec - I’ve never watched anything by either of them so I’m neutral at this point.

"I thought I was supposed to be the paranoid one," a familiar voice pulled her from the Academy, from the stars and the night sky.

"You are." Lissa smiled softly, glancing at the other girl.  She was paler than she'd ever seen her, purple bags painted underneath her eyes. Bruises covered the side of her neck despite the ever so gentle brush of fangs.

"What are you staring at?" Rose stepped forward; brown eyes narrowed. She stood up tall, her muscles contracted. Rigid. Always ready to fight. To run. When would she ever rest? The street beneath them was dimly lit by flickering post lamps, empty.

"The sky," she breathed with the wind, focusing on her friend. The tightness in her chest was suffocating.

"Okay, I know Moroi have good eyesight but even you can't see anything, Liss." Rose let some of the tension go, nudging Lissa's side gently with her elbow. "We're in the city. Too much pollution."

"Do you ever miss it?" It felt like a forbidden topic. Lissa forced her gaze down at her slippers. The once soft faux fur felt like shards of plastic against her feet. Lissa swallowed her saliva, her heartbeat picking up steadily.

"...You've been thinking about it again?" Rose took a step closer.

"I almost forgot."

Rose raised her eyebrows, crossing her arms over her chest.

"That you're there. You can see what I see." Only sometimes.

"Liss-"

"I get why we left. I'm grateful I have you...I just...I miss the stars." It was all so hazy, the night they left. Their Great Escape. Rose joked she always wanted to see the world. They'd been to a few different states, cities brewing with all different cultures. There were moments where it felt so normal. She wasn't the Princess. She was just a girl, standing in front of her best friend, asking her to please go see a movie.

Some nights her chest was so heavy she could explode. The guilt was eating her insides. They'd be so disappointed in her.

She was disappointed in them. The thought soured her stomach. How could they leave her like that? She needed them. Why did they have to go?

It felt like someone above her had been handed the remote to her life. They never let it just play out. Constantly slowing down moments, only to fast forward at twice the speed.

She felt two warm arms wrapping around her, pulling her into Rose's chest. She buried her face in her shoulder, gasping in air as hot tears tracked down her cheeks. Rose squeezed her tightly.

This was home, she knew. Not St. Vladimir's, not whatever space they ended up. Right here, in Rose's arms. She gulped the cold air in, inhaling deeply. Rose smelled of coconut and shea shampoo, the one they had bought from Target earlier that week. Rose had done a little dance in the store when she'd seen it was on sale.

Lissa had lost almost everything, but Rose had given up her life for her. Lissa clenched her eyes shut, focusing on the feeling of Rose's hand stroking her hair while hugging her close. The smell of the beach dancing on her skin. The warmth of her.

Rose sacrificed everything for her. "Thank you." She mumbled into Rose's shoulder. Her tears soaked through Rose's top.

Rose squeezed her. "Everything will be okay, Liss."

It would be. Lissa would be okay. She'd do it for her.

So of course, no one can shut up about it and everyone’s making plans to make their way to the capital, one way or another.

Gotham, after all, isn’t known for its decadence. Celebrations from the capital are few and far in between. But, it’s also well known that the king absolutely dotes on his children. The has the makings of being the biggest feast anyone has seen in their lifetime.

“Huh,” Roy says. He’s in a farming village when he hears, about five days ride from the capital if he had a horse, which he does not.

"Who are you mooning over?"

Lissa crosses her arms over her chest and cuts across the room to get closer to him. Joey tries not to instinctually jerk his communicator closer to his chest as she peers down at it with a curious glint in her eye.

"Frank Hardy," Joey spells out with his fingers. "He's a friend of mine."

Her brow furrows. "Frank? Have I met him?"

Joey shakes his head.

"What do you think he was calling for?"

Hopefully not to tell me that the world is on its way to ending, Joey thinks, worrying at his lip.

"Not sure," Joey signs. His thumb hovers over the call-back button. "I guess I'm about to find out."
