I've been editing pretty feverishly lately, because this is my favorite part of my entire wip. I cut so much from this scene actually. Even though I cut out some lines I love I think it has more impact now (you should be proud of me).

“It’s over, Kaori. You can’t win like this.” He wanted her to give up. He had no desire to kill her. Maybe he couldn’t read her mind, but he knew her. He wanted more for her. Maybe that was the real reason he’d gone back to her again and again. She had been his first friend, his first family, his first lover. He’d only ever wanted her to have the same chance Gram had given him. The chance to start over. Seeing her the way she was now, injured, uncomposed, but with fierce determination still in her eyes, he thought he understood for the first time how broken she really was—how broken she had always been underneath the facade of cold mockery and nonchalance. He lowered his sword. “Whatever you hope to accomplish with all of this, you deserve more than that, Kaori.” His voice was quiet, pleading. He wanted her to understand. It didn’t have to be like this. “Come back with me.”

Spoil a fluffy demo+poe moment

I'll just spoil my favorite moment in the entire story because I just love it so much and always want to talk about it.

So, when Poe goes missing during his mission on Jakku, Demo is the one who goes out to find him. Mind you, she's not with the Resistance right now. Anyway, when she finds him, Demo just hugs him immediately. And not an awkward hug, like she full on leaps into his arms kind of hug because she was genuinely scared that she had lost him. This is probably her most vulnerable moment to date in the story, and it's for him. And of course, Poe is just stunned at first, but he hugs her back just as fiercely cause you know that man is a great hug giver.

I personally find this scene to be the best moment for them. First kiss? First I love you? Nah. It's THIS HUG that defines them for me.
