overall thoughts: I mean, it's a knockoff of "Rocky". What else can I say? It's not a great episode, but not a bad episode either.

Thankfully, both Dixie and Sister Angela makes the episode work. Definitely a 'season 1' episode, if that makes sense. Still somewhat settling characters (especially Sam's) and the 'rules' of his leaping.

This is an episode I would've loved to see a 'on the other side of the IC' scene of Tina (and the others, for that matter) dealing with Boxing!Al (and his reaction to the neighbor).

(I want to say I read a fic where Al was ACTUALLY working overtime on the retrieval progam but didn't want to put any hope into Sam, so 'made up' the neighbor).

End thought? I may have to re-read "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" this weekend. ;-)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Mostly: Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek Voyager, Stargate SG-1, and recently added X-Files. I have also written a handful of things for The Rookie, I once wrote a gazillion things for Castle and Bones, and I've written for Due South, Cupid, Agent Carter, etc. It's a crazy quilt of "they're pretty; they should kiss."

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes! I try to. Sometimes I'm slow, sometimes I miss one, but I try to respond.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Hmm. I don't do a lot of sad stuff, I guess? I guess I see the end of fall in place as angsty, just because it's in line with the real end of the season (John and Monica are on the run, with everything they had now long gone).

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Uhhhhh. Maybe The Woman in the Snow? "And then I fixed it and they got to be happy, finally, unlike canon. The end."

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not really. Many moons ago, I got some rude comments on Castle fic, but that was a long time back, and it wasn't bad. So not really.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I have, but I rarely do anymore. For me it has to be part of a larger romance; I really can't do pwp. I much prefer a tasteful fade-to-black which means I don't have to keep calculating bare skin and body parts 😂

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not often, but I did write one: Stolen Sky, a Castle/Firefly crossover. iirc, it was the first, or maybe one of the first, Mal/Kate stories? It did pretty well, and it was funny reading comments that said "I only watched one of these shows, and this fic convinced me to watch the other one, too." It was originally posted on ffnet; I have since transferred it to AO3.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes! Only once that I know of. It was a (not very good) (since deleted) Bones fic that got stolen in its entirety; all the thief did was change character names. I reported it, and it was taken down.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? 

I have! It was very flattering.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! I co-wrote Castle fics with chezchuckles, Cartographicals, sandianecarter, and shimmeryshine back in the day. It was a DELIGHT. I would love to do it again!! (looking at you, @mylittleredgirl 😜)

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

I honestly don't know if I could pick just one. John/Elizabeth from Stargate Atlantis, Janeway/Chakotay from Voyager, John/Monica from X-Files, and Castle/Beckett are all up there. It rotates based on what I'm watching at any given time.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have this wonderful giant Voyager "missed connection" fic in my brain, where KJ and Chakotay belatedly realize they met at the Academy and fell a little bit in love in just one silly, lighthearted, adventurous evening of running around San Francisco together. I have a very long, detailed outline for it; we'll see if I ever tackle it for real.

16. What are your writing strengths?

@mylittleredgirl would say fluff, and I don't disagree. I love characters bantering, I love teasing, I love when they're kind and heartfelt to each other. I think I'm good at little moments like that.

UPDATE: LR has reported that my strength is, in fact, "FEELINGS."

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I do not enjoy writing smut; sometimes it's good for the story, but I do not like writing it and I don't think I'm particularly good at it. I have trouble fleshing a thing out from first idea to polished product. Physical accounts of action baffle me sometimes. Also, I often find it hard to come up with convincing conflict. I'm fluffy at heart, I guess.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

It can be effective, I guess? But there's usually a way around it if necessary. I haven't really had to deal with it, so I don't have strong feelings about it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Oh shit, I think this was Numb3rs. It was a really fun crime show on CBS featuring a mathematician who did Big Complicated Math to help the FBI solve crimes. I wrote a bunch of fics for it, they were all absolutely terrible, and yes, I have long since deleted them.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Letters From War, a Voyager fic where KJ and Chakotay keep in correspondence with each other through the Dominion War. It's the sequel to By Firelight, but took a long, long time to put together, and once a few conversations and ideas clicked into place, it felt like it all came together. I was happy with how it turned out.

sam does indeed struggle with social cues and communication. he does blend in, but not entirely well. his constant attempting to adapt to different people and personalities, both in his leaping, and also in his canon backstory, is noticeably lacking. that being said, he is VERY empathetic. people are very drawn to him. more often than not either in a "what the fuck is wrong with you" way. or a "hey lets have sex" (he does not want to have sex) way. he is also frequently fixated on learning languages outside of english. not that he plans to communicate in these languages, he simply wants a base connection to other people and this is how he does it. learning is his love language.

i mean. any episode can show you easily sam stims OFTEN. usually due to negative input, he will make certain gestures with his hands or entire body. you've got al frequently reminding sam to calm down. sam's reaction to being overwhelmed is usually either to become angry and lash out (emotionally or physically) or to shut down completely. he has had entire meltdowns such as going quiet and running away to cry. this didnt make al bat an eye, then knew exactly how to correct it. if you wanna talk about fixated interests, man has 7phd's...

ALSO. JIMMY.

jimmy is the one leapee sam has encountered the MOST. he leaped into him twice (not encludinb shock theater), met his older brother three times. he connected the MOST deeply to him. he even made an appearance in the last episode. and every time he has encountered jimmy, he instantly became ecstatic; running to wordlessly hug anyone he knew he could trust with his disabilities.

in the actual episode "jimmy" sam has a meltdown over how he is treated. he cries to al about how different he's acting in this body. to which al responds he is actually acting exactly the same as normal. sam doesnt understand completely, but the conversation progresses to al's sister.

sam is also embodying jimmy in "shock theater", yknow, when his mind is slipping away and his most important past leaps take over. yeah that one.

jump to "runaway". sam has a longwinded conversation with his leap's mother about how he feels like a "non-person". how he doesnt feel real or connected to anyone.

now jumping to the NOVELS. theres several examples here but specifically Prelude. where we get this insane page of text:

I think Tim and Lucy can find their way back to each other. It will take time, a lot of healing, and a lot of working on themselves and learning to love who they are.

The writers will have to figure this out in spite of probably what Alexi wants. Now how they will do it we don't know. Yes Tim will have a lot to prove to Lucy but he can after he works on himself.

Look at other TV ships who have broken up and had traumas both together and apart. To only to get back together and they made the relationships work.

*Meredith and Derek (Grey's Anatomy)---Hell she tried to kill herself in season 3. They got back together in season 4 and they stayed together. In their entire relationship He NEVER got help he needed in dealing with his traumas prior to and with Meredith. Married 3 kids

*Oliver and Felicity (Arrow)---Let's not even talk about their trauma's. Especially him, damn that guy was a trauma magnet. Yet they got married and had a baby. Married 2 kids

*Jamie and Claire (Outlander) ---Such a beautiful love story they were separated for 20 years. Hell they survived literal Wars and they are still together. Long story but soooooo good! Married and have Brianna together (mentioned later).

*Booth and Brennan (Bones)---What about both of their mutual traumas? Hell he left and went to war and came back with another girlfriend yet they got married and had 2 kids. They also had to later overcome his gambling problem but they did it. There was so much more.

*Angela and Wesley (The Rookie)---Look at the mess he was in not once but twice. His drug addiction after he was stabbed. The whole mess with Elijah you don't think those cause trauma and mistrust but they got through it. Married 2 Kids

*Beckett and Castle (Castle)----He literally walked away from her when she would not stop going down that rabbit hole about her mom's murder. The way he answered the door when she came to see him. Damn you knew he was not having it. Married 2 kids

*Sam and Andy (Rookie Blue)---Trauma central got married in the end.

*Doug and Carole (ER)----Messy, if I remember correctly he cheated on her. Lots of Trauma yet in the end they got together.

*Roger and Brianna (Outlander)---Hell she was raped, and bore a child by the guy who raped her. Roger was kidnapped and tortured, beaten and nearly left for dead. Yet they are now happily married and have a baby of their own and he accepted the other child as his.

*Lucifer and Chloe (Lucifer)---He the devil and she a detective. They had a kid and were together until he had to go back to Hell, after she died back together. Never married probably couldn't.

*Snow and Charming and Emma and Hook (Once Upon Time)----Omg the crazy trauma and stories these people had yet they all ended up together and made their relationships work after break ups. Snow and Charming Married 2 kids. Emma and Hook Married 1 kid

This is all I can think of for now, I am sure there are more.

So it is doable for Tim and Lucy to get back together even with all their past trauma and still make it work. But they have to put in the work and allow themselves time to heal, and learn to accept who they are. All these couples had traumas both together and separate.

We have to have faith that if there is a season 7 the writers will figure it out.

So if has been done before it can be done again. Let's just hope Alexi doesn't try to fight it. If he doesn't then the writers can come up with a way for them to reunite.

1) Mike Nesmith!!! (The Monkees)

He's one of my earliest memories, I had to be around three years old. First crush started off strong. The first episode I ever saw was fairytale, and it was absolutely AMAZING because this beautiful princess was also a beautiful MAN??? It was like hitting the jackpot! I loved his Texan accent SOOO much but had somehow convinced myself that it was embarrassing so I didn't tell anyone?? At 3 years old. But now I'm living my truth👍🏻

2) Michael Jackson (all eras)

I'm almost positive he was my first hyperfixaction when I was around 5. I listened to his music EVERY DAY and SHAMELESSLY wore a sparkly glove despite it being a sensory nightmare. When my mom had told me he died it was like my entire world ended, and I had gained a new catchphrase whenever my parents introduced me to something new, "Are they dead?"

3) Christopher Reeve's Superman (and Lois)

I don't particularly remember how old I was, but it was around the same time methinks. Absolutely melted every time he smiled. And was extremely confused as to why I wanted to be around Lois so much. Couldn't ever decide who I wanted to look at more. (Partly a biromantic awakening)

4) Sam Beckett (Quantum Leap)

If you couldn't tell, growing up in the early 2000's with musicians as parents led to little 5 year old me having so many old interests I couldn't really relate to younger kids, but that was okay because I had variety! I'm not quite sure how old I was when Netflix was a postal service, but every week or so we'd get a new episode of Quantum Leap, and I LOVED Sam. (And of course my favorite episodes were when he had to be a girl. I am a creature of habit)

Yet another one I was REALLY embarrassed about for some reason. All of my (2 neighbor friends) thought Anakin was soooo hot and I was like.....haha yeah....

I'm 6 years old. I'm over at my mom's friends house and I am subjected to the first modern show I had really ever paid attention to, and I see this beautiful man holding a baby. And I'm like wait hey...maybe I should sit and watch this instead of wasting 2 hours on the sims 2. So I sit my ass down and it is love at first sight. Later I go to watch the show on my own and the first episode he's with a kid MY AGE?!?! I ate that shit UP. Still madly in love with the raggedy man.

Okay girl no one wanted him like I did. Everyone was so focused on the flash they did NOT notice my mans, and that was okay because I didn't have to fight over him with anyone lmao- but yes, he was the light of my life in middle school. Promptly stopped watching the show when he left. Around that time I got into Steven Universe all the way until my sophmore (?) year of highschool which brings us to....

Okay look, after being a mild marvel hater for a low-key (pun intended) long time, the loki series came out and I was like okay sure I'll watch it. And henceforth 2021 was the year of Lokimania. I am now 18. I found myself delving back into my old "watch jacksepticeye while I eat lunch bc I want to be non-verbal" habit and stumbled across his dbh playthrough. I watched it literally ANY time I could. Took two days but it was life changing, so much so that I had literally convinced my mom to buy a cheap ps4 and I played the game. Piggy-backing off of the high of dbh, I finally got around to purchasing red dead 2 (because like 5 of my friends recommended it to me, including my older brother) so I got it, and BOY I did not expect to fall in love with a cowboy, but I suppose it is deeply rooted in me to like fellas of that sort. I cried my eyes out and couldn't eat for a whole day when he died in my first playthrough.

I absolutely love all the Quantum Leap blogs I follow because the complete and utter radio silence on the 2022 reboot really speaks volumes considering how much speculation was on my dash before it aired.

As someone who finally remembered it's existence and watched the whole season*, I can genuinely tell all original Quantum Leap fans:

Do not bother watching this show

It literally exists to try and make a profit off the nostalgia of the title alone, because it is shallower than a drop of water in the desert and they're trying to make up for their lack of interesting Leaps by filling the runtime with office drama in the present day that no one cares about and doesn't mean anything.

They're telling us all these things about Ben that mean absolutely nothing because it doesn't change anything, he already Leaped, and no I don't particularly care about why, even after the little "cliffhanger reveal" in Episode 8.

I was watching this show because I care about Sam Beckett and Al Calavicci.

Al was summarily killed off in the first or second episode by having them mention he'd passed away a few years ago, and while you could be generous and say it's because they didn't want anyone that wasn't Dean Stockwell playing Al.... You don't have to have a character on-screen to have them exist in your story.

Al could have been a character whose just always left the room to go attend one of his grandkids pride events.

He could be on the other end of an important phone call.

He could be the random old guy that sneaks in at night and talks with Ziggy but they've never been able to catch him because he always knows how to disable all their security measures and Ziggy refuses to tell them.

(They're secretly plotting to actually get Sam and Ben back while everyone else is just caught up in their conspiracy theories, Janis helps by sending them all on a wild goose chase so Ziggy has actual time to put her processing power to work)

But yeah. Al's been killed off for literally no reason except for bad writing, his daughter is an antagonist for no reason except bad writing, and I genuinely do not care about literally any of these characters because so far they haven't done anything memorable. Ben gets kudos for actually helping people but that's negated a bunch by him being extremely shallow of a character AND the mouthpiece for "you must forgive your abusers!!!!!" The writers are using this show to preach.

Oh and did I mention everyone promptly forgot that Sam Beckett exists and that Ben was trying to find him? So much so that when he runs into another Leaper who warns him to stop following because it's dangerous, literally every single character jumps to the conclusion that it's ... Janis. Al's Antagonist Daughter, threatening Ben, instead of the obvious conclusion of

Hello???? It's literally Sam fucking Beckett trying to warn Ben he should be focused on getting home, back to his life, instead of continuing to try and find Sam?? That Sam's trying to save him from getting trapped in the Leaps like he was??? And the show unironically took it as a threat from some unknown villain instead, and wholly expects the audience to take that conclusion at face value?

Like. Yeah, don't watch Quantum Leap 2022 if you loved the original, if you want to know what happened to Sam and Al.

... I've just blocked all those people already from the tag because it's genuinely creepy how deeply these people are in a parasocial relationship with the actor. Like genuinely looking for RPF things and obsessing over them and referring to them only by their first name and just.... No. Hell no.

But yeah, the funny thing is if you go into the Quantum Leap 2022 tag and block all the Mason Park stalkers the content of the tag is just reduced by like 90%

1. SAM AND DIANE FIX-IT (LITERALLY). Of course my first thought would be this... you and I both are so incredibly invested in making sure these two get a happy ending (and I know you’ve been itching to talk about it more) so this would be a perfect opportunity and exactly the sort of thing Sam would want to help with as well!! My first thought was that Sam (Beckett) leap into Sam (Malone) just for the sheer and absolute chaos of it all, but I also love the idea of him helping them get together just on his own as a friend as well!!!

2. COLLEGE DAYS. Sam and Diane are both perpetual students in a lot of ways; it’s absolutely not at all unreasonable to think that they would have crossed paths!! While Diane is (I imagine) a bit older than Sam, Sam is something of a wunderkind and graduated early (he finished undergrad at MIT at 18), so I could absolutely see them studying together and being close, especially given the fact that both of them have a number of different programs they’re involved in (Diane with all of her majors, and Sam with his seven doctorates: beyond quantum physics, he has doctorates in music, medicine, archaeology, ancient languages, chemistry, and astronomy)!!!

3. We could also COMBINE the previous two ideas; Sam and Diane were friends prior to Sam’s leaping; maybe she confides in him about some of her troubles. When he starts leaping, he goes back to her and tries to help her however he can, be that with her relationship with Sam and / or some of the other things she’s had happen to her, like her family trauma (specifically the ‘who would take care of Elizabeth’ incident, which I think about constantly)!!

4. GETTING RID OF SUMNER SLOANE. Diane should never have had to deal with him, and Sam would be all too happy to make sure the creep stays away from her for good and never manipulates her the way he did by building her confidence, encouraging her, and telling her she deserves better than him. This can be a follow up to 2 or 3, perhaps!!

5. PROFESSOR VERSE. Maybe once Sam’s returned home, or in the verse where he never develops Project Quantum Leap / it remains only theoretical, the two of them can be professors together!! I would adore to make that good / rewritten ending happen for her!! 

6. DIANE AND FRASIER FIX-IT. Following both from 1 and 5, but a good deal less specific, I know you don’t like how Frasier / season 5 of Cheers handled Diane, so this is an opportunity to fix that, too, and show off your divergences and verses!!

I mean, I'm a fiddler, I have arranged rock pieces on my fiddle, I should record a Holy Grail cover & that You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison cover. Actually I recorded Holy Grail improv to make it easier to score but I haven't written, but I HAVE written Prison but not recorded it. Like esposito would NOT read music I'm gonna sing for y'all later SDFDHSKJHH SO FREAKING EXCITED but also what singers use sheet music? I have some minimal classical training & I cannot sing reading off sheet music. I can play my violin just fine! Actaully,,, I struggle with the timing on written music, but if I've heard the song even once & I have the sheet music, I'd be able to figure it out. I can not, however, sing reading sheet music

Just grabbed my fiddle. I wish I knew the key. I thought it might be in c bc no sharps/flats but why shouldn't mess with the c in that case, then I thought it might be d bc that's a common note & I played the song in d. I have some classical & sightreading training but I'm mostly a fiddler & I learn my ear, in fact the suzuki method is very ear based. So my timing was off. But I played it & it sounds good, or it would sound good if I had full sheet music & a listen through first, & maybe if I played rock guitar. It is actually pretty easy minus the rests in odd places, but they are not bad for people with better timing than me, maybe it would be hard for guitarists to play bc they don't have bows.
