Many start their ‘self improvement journey’ when they are at their lowest because that’s when you are most aware that something is ‘wrong’ - making you more vulnerable / susceptible to deception & addiction.

It usually starts by reading a book, watching a yt video, etc;. You watch / read one and then continue to consume more, because ‘maybe the next one will finally get me to where i need to be’ - not understanding that this is just another form of entertainment and procrastination.

There is satisfaction after immediately reading a self help book. You have a quick rush of ‘I’ve accomplished something’ (dopamine) - giving you the illusion of progress until you get stuck inside a cycle and realize, nothing has changed.

Sitting behind a screen is not the self improvement you think it is. Is there good knowledge shared? Yes, of course, but the real self improvement starts by actually DOING. Living life will give you more answers than binging content.

Action Faking - ‘the practice of confusing being 'busy' with making actual progress towards an intended goal and often involves a lot of over-analysing and planning, but very little meaningful action.’

Listening to someone talk about their own lives & share their own improvement stories is not going to help YOU. Gurus try to fit everyone into a mold when self improvement is not a ‘one size fits all’ & when something doesn’t work for someone after its worked for others, they usually see themselves as a ‘failure’ so they move onto the next thing that doesn’t fit them & this becomes a pattern, soon they start to build levels of guilt and shame.

Before consuming anything, you should know the specific problem you want to solve, if not, you are coming into something without a strong foundation, soon, you will start to believe there are 500 other things wrong. Don’t get sucked into a black hole.

Also, understand that many other these therapists, psychologists, content creators, etc; all thrive off of people who are at their lowest. It’s important to know when someone really wants to help vs when someone keeps wanting you to come back. The industry is worth billions.

Many have been accustomed to pacifying the silence. Always picking up the phone, turning the tv on, listening to music when there is downtime, instead of tapping into our bodies - their thoughts and feeling have now become distorted & influenced by ‘the noise’.

Fake positivity instead of facing reality is an issue within itself. These ‘positive’ messages / posts about encouragement and ‘never giving up’ convinces you that it’s ‘wrong’ to changes paths / passions in life & you then see yourself as a failure instead of a soul, growing.

With all of that being said, remove yourself from artificial motivation & start doing. I have nothing against self improvement, but I do have an issue with the addictive side of it that seems to only profit a select few.

As I've been working on outlining the shit out of my Winx rewrite, I've been thinking a lot about how all the villains in the series desperately need to be treated like actual characters and given real motives. I know everyone loves Valtor and the Trix and the wizards of the black circle, but they're all equally boring as fuck because they're all just generically, black-and-white evil for no real reason. As such, I've started to come up with some potential backstories/motives for all of them, and I thought I'd share since I'd also love some feedback.

Something I think the series set up like it was going to do something with is the idea of the Trix having some sort of connection to the Ancestral Witches. If we keep what seems like the most canon timeline they appear to have settled on in the show, that the fall of Domino and everything happened about 18 years prior to season 3, then it wouldn't be unreasonable for the Trix to be the witches' granddaughters. I like the idea of that connection to the Ancestral Witches being the main thing that originally brought them together into their coven and that, as soon as they discover Bloom's true identity, their primary goal is killing her to finish what the witches started. With this, of course, would be the omission of bullshit rivalry between fairies and witches, though their ongoing conflict with the Winx could still start with Stella's ring, like in the original.

With Valtor, I would want him to be a person rather than a physical manifestation of the dragon flame that was made by the Ancestral Witches. I just think it would make him more interesting for him to have an origin story as a human, living in the world, that leads to his eventual corruption rather than him just being made evil by evil for evil. I have this vision of him coming from some country that was an ally of Domino but when something happened and they needed Domino's help, their allies turned their backs on them, inspiring Valtor's blossoming hatred for them as he personally suffered and watched the fallout of that betrayal. This all would've happened with the previous king and queen before Oritel and Marion btw, but it would take him a hot minute to learn the dark arts in order to pursue his revenge.

What I'd love to see is Valtor actually learning dark magic from Darkar, since I do also think Darkar should be a bigger deal than he was in canon. By learning from the Shadow Phoenix, who is the opposite of the Great Dragon, I feel like his magic would be both better suited to going against the dragon flame and more vulnerable to it. That would also bring back in some sort of dragon flame element without Valtor being a spark of the flame itself like in canon. So Valtor would gather the witches and attack Domino for personal revenge, with his focus being on ending the royal family, hence the way it all turned out with Daphne being a ghost, Oritel being a statue, Marion being sealed in his sword(?), and Bloom getting dumped out of a portal to spare her from the culling.

As for the wizards, I want them to be from Earth and for all their beef to be with Tir Na Og instead of just... all fairies, for no real reason. What I'm thinking is that Tir Na Og is the bridge between the Magic Dimension and Earth, so I take that to mean that Earth doesn't have any real magic of its own and what they have all comes from through Tir Na Og. Because of this imbalance that's so different from how the Magic Dimension is, that could put Earth-dwelling magic users in a position of power over non-magical people, and perhaps that all really starts with and is encouraged/exacerbated by the king and queen of the Earth fairies. I'm thinking it would be the sort of thing where they would've convinced all the non-magical people of Earth that they are deities of some kind and then abuse the shit out of the power and trust that gives them.

The wizards would've seen all the problems that would come with this abuse of power and would seek to destroy it. Knowing that all magic on Earth comes from Tir Na Og's connection to the Magic Dimension, they would decide to target Tir Na Og and take away the magic of all the magic users there before sealing the kingdom off from the Magic Dimension entirely. Their mission when they show up in s4 then becomes keeping Roxy from reconnecting Earth and the Magic Dimension and bringing back all the issues they originally sought to end.

Lastly, just to touch on Darkar, my main thing with him is that it really should be all about how he's the opposite of the dragon, so where the dragon flame creates, Darkar's shadows can only either mimic what already exists or destroy. Just as much as the creative nature of the dragon flame contributes to the dragon's desire to create, the nature of Darkar's powers contribute to his own desires to deceive and to destroy. It's not just that he's evil for the sake of it, he's evil to us because of the inherent nature of his magical abilities and how he himself is the living embodiment of what his powers represent, which I think adds sufficient depth for him to stop being so fucking boring. Also, Relix wouldn't just be the home of some McGuffin he's been chasing the whole time, I think it would actually be the resting place of the Great Dragon and his main goal would be the absolute destruction of everything (including himself) that could only be achieved by killing the dragon.

Thoughts? Feelings? Opinions? Should I go on and also dither on about villains from later seasons?

thank you very much! I‘ve been doing this for a while so I‘m pretty good at setting my own pace and doing what brings me the most joy or I wouldn‘t have been able to create fanwork for over a decade. However, I have little patience for people who just demand content. Most creators do all their fanwork in their free time and ask for nothing, they‘ll keep going even when getting no feedback at all. Since we‘re not getting much out of it except those sweet words of encouragement at times it is easy to be discouraged. I enjoy creating but I can‘t imagine any positive consequences of a „when is the next update“ comment. None. For any creator. It just sounds like an entitled demand from a greedy consumer who you don‘t even want to entertain anymore.

I‘m not out for comments even though I love them as much as anyone else. But if you have a story or fanwork you enjoyed give them a comment about how you loved that piece and what parts specifically you enjoyed. Personally this motivates me more than anything because you get to experience that part of your work again through the eyes of someone else, remember how you created that that scene and just ignite a wave of motivation and good feelings. The chances of getting more content are a lot better with that method, trust me. Now please throw some love at your favorite creators.

also! i wanted to mention that you have this powerful ability to make each and every character (human or not) so likeable in their own special way—something i consider incredibly difficult to achieve—and not only that. it’s endlessly fascinating to me how they feel so alive instead of just being words on a screen! and like, i don’t believe i have a particularly vivid imagination, and i admit i struggle sometimes with picturing what the author wants me to see, but the way you describe the world, or how the characters move, as well as their emotions, paints such a clear picture in my mind that it’s genuinely a joy to read.

Duri has been our heart-stealer for sure. They are accustomed to thieving things, of course. I love making an MC for each RO in the IFs I read. I started a lot of books that never got finished, and I wasn't exactly encouraged to keep doing what I loved. It's a whole thing, I stopped writing or reading for fun when I became a grumpy adult in college (thought I tried a couple times and then dropped it again). Lots of stuff both good and bad happened, and I decided one day a few years ago that I have some stories to tell. Even if no one likes them or even sees them, I need to write them. It's the one of the few things in the world that I have passion for that makes me happy.

So, when I read how impactful it is, how fun it is, or how much you enjoy it, that really lights up my world. ^_^

OOC: RP positivity (I think?)

I don't know what it is but lately I've seen a lot of people disappointed in the hobby of RP because they put in more then they get out of. Because people leave and threads fizzle out or their partners jump from place to place.

I know that collaboration with someone can be hard especially when stiles and expectations clash. When timezones and schedules and muse and time make it hard to respond. When one is highly motivated and wants to write but the partner isn't responding as fast as you'd like.

I think people in this space deserve more grace and kindness. On both ends of the spectrum. I've been on both sides. I've been the one waiting and I've been the one who let people wait. I've fallen in love with stories and characters so much that I got impatient and I've been the person dropping stories left and right.

I know and understand all these aspects so well. So to whomever needs to hear it:

Don't lose heart.

There are people who love your characters, no matter if they are canon or OC and who truly believe YOU make this space better.

If you are struggling to answer posts for whatever reason, be kind to yourself. People will wait for you. This is your space as much as theirs and you deserve patience and understanding from others and especially yourself.

I encourage you to communicate with each other. Make friends or at least friendly with the people you write because it's (in my humble opinion) half the fun.

Chat, rage about your characters, share pictures and headcanons and stories. Even if you don't feel inspired to write or if you feel so inspired all you want to do is write. We all share this hobby and it's incredible what people can create. So in whatever space you find yourself in. I hope you get to accomplish it. And if you're afraid no one cares or that you feel like you're too much I hope you find people proofing you wrong.

Take it from someone filled with doubt of constantly being to much: people here will surprise you if you let them.

I'm thankful for my little corner of the Internet with my silly magic fam, spy stories, crow talk, lovable OC's, canon and AU adventures. Characters I've met and muns who have come and left and maybe came back around again.

What parts / bits of Papa Titan's speech do you agree with when he was talking to Luz about Belos? Was he right when was said that Belos liked being the hero of his own delusions and was afraid of things he couldn't control?

So there are two major lines that I think the Titan is dead wrong about Belos: the first is “You assume Belos’ goal comes from a genuine place" and "that man doesn't care about anything but his own need to be the hero."

The first line feels less about explaining Belos' motivation and more like the Titan is trying to absolve Luz's (narratively stupid and overly drawn out ) guilt about "helping" Belos. Because Belos' goals do come from a genuine place; he really thinks he is out there protecting humanity and that he will be thanked for it. He tells Luz that he does not want to see "one more human life destroyed by this place." The man carves up his own arms and ears to achieve his goals! Belos may be genuinely wrong about the target of his mission but he was raised and encouraged to be a witch hunter (by his brother!) and it's the only thing he has left justifying his horrific existence so he has to go through with it.

The second line is missing a lot of context as to why he feels the need to be the hero. A lot of people think that Belos just wants praise and glory and to be the Witch Hunter General but his actions and the story focuses more on the trauma connected to his brother than any desire for fame and glory. He set out to the Demon Realm to save his brother but when that failed, his goal warped from "save brother" to "save humanity because I could not save my only family." His desire to help Luz and bring them home in King's Tide is proof of this.

The Titan's lines are extremely reductive and either ignores a lot of context behind Belos' actions or are flat out wrong. The only thing I do agree with is that Belos is afraid of things he cannot control. Growing up in a Puritan community, he would have been taught to fear the Unknown, the Other. Anyone who didn't fit into the rigid standards of Puritan society was deemed suspicious. The show supports this reading when Masha says that the Wittebane brothers became witch hunters "to fit in." They talk about how the brothers tried to adapt to their new home but failed, so the two adopted the path of violence to gain acceptance and security in the community. With that background and mindset, Philip would be wary of anything different because he was different, and anything outside the norms could threaten his status as well.

We see this a lot in real world communities where anyone who is different is stamped down into conformity because such differences upset the status quo and threaten the identity of the community. It's a toxic environment that breeds suspicion that then can be turned onto anyone, even those already on the "inside."

When Philip arrives in the Boiling Isles, everything is turned up to 11. The inhabitants look just like the creatures he's been taught are pure evil, he can't eat the food, and the very environment itself is dangerous to humans. If Luz had a hard time adjusting to the BI even though she loves witchcraft and all things weird, then for Philip it would have been literal hell. And then he finds his brother alive and thriving in this hellscape and when he dies, Philip has no one to guide and support him. Small wonder he never changes.

I think what's most disappointing about the Titan's speech is just how dismissive it is; we could have had a great story about how trying to adhere to toxic conformity is ultimately destructive, about how small-minded communities traumatize children and continue the cycle of violence, and the importance of positive social connections, especially for the community's most vulnerable members.

But instead, the show decided to spit on all that and reduced Philip's complex story to make the protagonist feel better. It's frankly disingenuous and hypocritical that the writers gave the audience all of these tantalizing details that have massive implications for the character and motivations of the central antagonist, only for all of that to be ignored in the end.

I have to say, I've always been a fan of the idea of Kirishima being Izuku's best friend, rather than Bakugo's. I just think the two work off each other as the "extrovert trying to get his introverted friend to come out of his shell more" better than his and Bakugo's "I can fix him" one.

Plus, both have experience dealing with bullies and trying to defend the helpless from said bullies. Hell, Kirishima would commend Izuku for sticking it out all the way through, whereas he needed Mina's help with his. I really think Kirishima would be a great motivator for Izuku to get stronger and to voice his opinions more. If Izuku was having an especially bad day, I see Kirishima being the type to say,

"Hey man, don't put yourself down like that. You're one of the strongest, manliest guys I know. Even up there with All Might and Crimson Riot. Come on, lets head to the gym to get your mind off things. I'll spot ya."

Kirishima would provide so much positivity and motivation to improve, that I feel Izuku would only come out better with him as his main homie. Not to mention it would give Kirishima even more screentime, which I would love.

Though admittedly, my love of Kirishima is also why I hate that Hori paired him with Bakugo. My man deserves a better homie than that asshat.

...You know, when you look at Kirishima as, like, a character that someone put in a story, rather than as a person, there's something weird about him. You know what it is? Kirishima is basiclly Izuku. He's Izuku if he had a 'mediocre' Quirk; a bit of a coward at the start of his story, with self doubt, but he still genuinely wants to help people, and forces himself to grow and push farther when he decides to apply to UA. And when you strip to the bare bone themes like that, it's Izuku's story, without Bakugou and the Quirklessness there making his life miserable.

And, with that in mind, and that one comment Hori (apparently) made, that Izuku was supposed to be sad that Bakugou took Kirishima's hand... it feels like Kirishima was made, or at least given development, for Bakugou. Like, Kirishima and Bakugou is the friend dynamic of Bakugou with Izuku that so many people want them to have, what fanfic stories are written for, what people in story apparently (god knows why) seem to think they have, and when you look it that way it's... interesting. It's a very interesting choice to me.

Like, Hori apparently (I can't cite any of this Hori shit) regrets how far Bakugou went in the first chapter; it makes me wonder if, like, Kirishima is his wish fulfillment in that sense? Like, he's imagining a version of the manga where Bakugou came in with a lot less baggage, and that dynamic is him doing that sort of friendship without actually changing the story?

On the other hand, though, I'd have to be blind to that dynamic seems to exist to soften up Bakugou's image, to show that he's not all that bad, without really making him improve actively.

Regardless, no matter how you look at it, in a meta, 'why does this character exist' kind of way, Kirishima literally seems to be in the manga only for Bakugou's sake. I mean, his friendship (or 'friendship' maybe) with Bakugou, isn't helping him beyond giving him more screen time. And your right, it's a shame, because he and Izuku would get along really well.

Part of it, of course, is that they exist in a similar kind of positive wavelength, both being really wholesome people. Kirishima is really outgoing, and it seems natural that he would try to reach out to Izuku, who canonly is almost pathetically grateful for even the tiniest smidge of even vaguely positive interactions, especially at the start, much less someone just flat out being nice to him. Meanwhile, Izuku is naturally supportive, and would be great for Kirishima in turn, supporting him on his low confidence moments and encouraging him to be more confident about his Quirk and his own abilities.

Overall, it's a firm foundation for a good, wholesome friendship, one that would easily continue to continue on even when both of them eventually grow past their own doubts, and something that'd be nice to see, but by the time Kirishima got any characterization, he was already set up for Bakugou, and of course we could dilute that dynamic with him doing something else.

Lego Monkie Kid Rewatch: Season 3

Episode 7, Cooking with Chang'e

Chang'e! When first watching this show, Chang'e's story was one of the only chinese mythologies I knew, and I loved her story. So you know I was hyped to see how LMK chose to interpret her.

Over the Moon is still my favourite media adaption of her.

Like Tang, Pigsy also gets the JTTW funhouse mirror treatment. Zhu Baijie is super lazy? Lets make Pigsy the hardest working demon in the show! Zhu Baijie constantly at odds with Wukong because the monkey is either ruining his fun ("no! you totally killed that demon I thought was a hot girl!") or making him do extra work (tripitaka: "monkey's taking too long. i'm worried." sends baijie to check on him)? Pigsy can still have beef with Wukong, but this time its out of protectiveness toward MK. Zhu Baijie never gaining enlightenment because he couldn't master his base desires? Pigsy has to literally stay away from pingpong tables as if he's allergic because he has no self control and needs others to intervene to stop him once he starts. Zhu Baijie got kicked out of the heavenly realm because he hit on Chang'e? Pigsy will be the 1# fan of Chang'e cooking show.

Wukong's rocket sound effects and playing with his food. This is everything to me.

Why isn't Sandy saying anything about MK taking apart his camper to turn it into a rocket? The guy is always so concerned and sad when his rides get smashed.

Ah. That's why.

Funny how the gang just casually forgets about Sandy the same way the fandom does.

"Can he just do that? Get new powers whenever he wants?"

Tang being the 25% of the fandom that rightfully questioned MK's powers.

Me and the other 75% who just accepted it because it was cool.

Ah how I pity my naive past self.

"I still believe in you. Maybe you just need a stronger motivator."

And then Wukong steps up to reveal he coulda been doing in this whole time, literally blowing everyone away.

But not because he's lazy like some people think. Rather, because he's a good mentor. He encouraged MK to try first, using positive words to try and stoke MK's confidence. And when MK fails, he assures his pupil he still believes in him and they just need to find some better motivation. The only reason he's stepping forward now is because they don't have time to let MK work his way through the problem like in season 1 (example: s1ep7 The Impossible Delivery. Wukong tells MK what his issue is and how he can work through it, then lets him stew over it on his own time).

"I've never even made a rocket ship before! Can you believe that!"

Look at how happy this guy is! Just look! He's finally having a new experience, doing something he's never done before, in who knows how many generations. Can you just imagine the amount of happy sauce pouring into his brain right now!

Side note: Wukong designed this. Just think about that for a moment.

That cute winky face with a bow tie, the bajillion levers and buttons to fiddle with, the firework esc shape. This ship comes straight out of the Monkey King's imagination. This is his style, his signature. And its cute and goofy.

Friendly reminder that Wukong is indestructible and can appreciate great designs without pesky mortal terror or annoying survival instincts getting in the way.

Love this girl so much. She found a way to enjoy her life on the moon doing something she loves. Chang'e is just thriving in this modern age where distance doesn't seclude you from finding mutuals and being social. Her being a tv star and probably influencer just makes so much sense.

Honestly, I guess I just need some validation here.

I am struggling with writing solely because I don’t believe in myself. And I don’t see me gaining confidence any time soon. But I don’t want that to stop me from finally finishing a novel idea this year(I have a whole goal). I have decided that even if I feel nothing for the story, majority of the time, and make myself feel bad about my abilities or begin to compare myself, I’ll write through it. If I can’t fix my confidence, I can leave that worry at the door and bill doze to finish line until I reach my goal.

I know this doesn’t sound pretty but I really don’t believe in myself and I rip apart every story before it’s finished and kill morale. And I hate it. I type this ask to get a second opinion. Is this feasible?

i guess my question is, if this is a miserable process for you and you don't feel anything for the story, why did you set a goal to complete the novel? i mean this sincerely, not as a question of doubt. what inspired you to start writing this particular story? what compels you about it?

on just a basic cognitive level, unless you have high stakes external motivation (like a professional athlete, for example), it is nearly impossible to use internal motivation to complete a task that doesn't offer you some kind of positive/affirmative feeling. as humans, we are simply not built to put ourselves through pain without a potential reward commensurate to what it takes to achieve it.

for some writers, the reward is pushing through the shitty feelings of the process so they can be pleased with what they've created. for other writers (like me), the pleasure is in the process itself and we don't really get any of those "a job well done" feelings at the end. (i wish i did, but by the time i finish something i'm already knee-deep into the next thing.)

but if you don't have good feelings while you're writing, and you don't have good feelings when you're finished...where are the good feelings? i think before you buckle down and put yourself through what seems like a very painful and demotivating process, you should reframe your perspectives somehow. instead of your goal being to finish a project, what if your goal is to find joy? figure out exactly how and what you want to write that can override some of what you're going through. or learn how to self-affirm so you can push back against what's keeping you down.

i've made an entire career out of motivating people to write and helping them overcome self-doubt and low confidence. and even though it seems complicated and maybe even impossible, everyone needs at least one of two things: internal motivation via play/discovery/progress, and/or external motivation via encouragement from someone whose perspective you value. finishing a novel is almost never a result of gritting your teeth and grinding out words. it's a result of social support and fun.

It had been a tough week. The kind that left you feeling drained and worn down, both physically and emotionally. You had almost forgotten about the fancall with ENHYPEN that you had won last week. It was a small ray of sunshine amidst the storm you were navigating, and you clung to it as you prepared for the call that afternoon.

As the time drew closer, you tried to pull yourself together. You wiped away the tears that had been falling freely and tried to muster a smile. You didn't want your idols to see you like this, but it was hard to mask the exhaustion and sadness in your eyes.

When the call finally connected, you were greeted by the smiling faces of ENHYPEN. They were as vibrant and full of energy as always, and their enthusiasm was contagious. Heeseung's face appeared on the screen, his eyes brightening when he saw you.

"Hi! How are you?" he greeted warmly.

You forced a smile and waved, trying to hide your earlier tears. "Hi, Heeseung! I'm good, thank you."

Heeseung's smile faltered for just a moment as he caught sight of your red eyes and the tissues beside you. His expression softened, and his tone became more gentle. "Aw, are you okay? Do you wanna talk about it?"

His concern caught you off guard, and you felt a lump in your throat. "It's just been a tough week," you admitted quietly, grabbing another tissue.

Heeseung's voice was filled with warmth and sincerity. "As your idol, this fan call is not about me; it's about you. It's okay to cry, sweetheart. Whatever you're feeling, it will go away. Don't worry, hmm?" He raised his hand near the top of the phone screen, making it look like he was patting you on the head.

You felt a wave of comfort wash over you. His simple yet genuine words touched your heart in a way you hadn't expected. You nodded, feeling the tears start to fall again, but they were mixed with relief this time.

Before you were moved to the next member, Heeseung leaned over and whispered something to Jay. "Please... comfort her. She needs it."

Jay's face appeared next, and he immediately picked up where Heeseung left off. "Hey there! Heeseung told me you're having a rough time. Want to talk about it?"

You spent the next few minutes talking to Jay, who listened with patience and understanding. Each member you spoke with after that – from Jake's light-hearted jokes to Sunghoon's quiet encouragement, Sunoo's infectious positivity, Jungwon's genuine concern, and Ni-Ki's playful banter – brought more light into your day.

After the call ended, you felt a sense of gratitude that you hadn't felt in a long time. You took to social media to express your feelings.
