Hello! I'm new here and I just saw your one shot fics about the BSD men getting sick… I was wondering if you could write that same fic for Akutagawa, Fyodor, Ango, and Oda. If not, I totally understand. Remember to stay hydrated, rest when you need it, and don't forget to eat!
▵▿— When They’re Sick pt2
Tumblr media
— Akutagawa, Fyodor, Ango, Oda x gn!reader
Category: Fluff, a bit angsty depending on which way you look at it
CW: Light mention of Akutagawa’s disease :(
A/N: thank you so much for the requeeeeeeeeeeest! And thanks for reminding me to drink water lmao
PART 1 ▶ Dazai, Chuuya, Ranpo, Atsushi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AKUTAGAWA —▵▿
“Ryu! You’re back from your mission!”
Akutagawa coughs into his hands as he strode towards you. Finally after a painfully long time, he returned from his 2 week long mission. He was so busy that he didn’t even have the time to call you. “How was the mission?” Akutagawa closed his eyes and took a breath. “It was fine, wasn’t that difficul—” He was suddenly cut off by another series of coughing.
You rushed towards him and placed a hand on his trembling back. “Are you alright? You haven’t been working yourself to the bone again, have you?” Akutagawa breathed in sharply and clutched onto his own coat as you slowly guided him towards the nearest seat. “I was just doing my duty, I’m fine.” You sighed and clutched onto his slightly quivering hand, “You have to take care of yourself! What if you worsened your disease?” He avoided your gaze, unable to respond to you as he sighed.
You silently patted him on the head before going to the kitchen, and returned with his medicine and a glass of water. You kneeled in front of his seated figure and gently held his chin. “Say ah.” Akutagawa opened his mouth as you fed him the medicine. “…It’s bitter.” You smiled, “It’s good for you though.”
“Promise you will start taking care of your own health from now on."
Tumblr media
FYODOR —▵▿
“Have you been working all night again…?”
You looked at Fyodor with a concerned look on your face. He got dark circles under his eyes, must’ve not gotten any sleep for a long while. You lifted his bangs before pressing the back of your hand against his forehead. “Ah, I’m fine. You don’t have to worry about me, my dear.” You crossed your arms and pouted. “No! You have a bad fever, I’m not boutta leave you hanging when you’re sick.”
How did he end up here? He still has work to do but here he is, laying on the sofa with as you hustled and bustled around him, bringing him water and getting him towels. Fyodor closed his eyes and began sorting his thoughts and strategizing his next steps for his mission. You tucked his hair away before placed a wet towel on his scorching forehead. “Hey how about taking a break from thinking for a while, you’ll get a headache.” You gently cradled his head in your hands as he looked up at you with exhausted eyes.
“Just focus on this moment alright?” You cuddled up against him as he chuckled quietly. “You seem more clingy when I’m sick.” “I just wanna accompany you.” Fyodor smiled at your response.
“Thank you dear.”
Tumblr media
ANGO —▵▿
You focused on typing away on your computer, drowsiness almost consuming you before you heard a bang from behind you. Turning around, you saw Ango throw his glasses on his desk before cradling his head, brows furrowed in frustration. You strode towards him and peeked over his desk to check up on him.
“Ango, you alright?”
You sat on his desk as you watched him sigh for the ninth time today as he pitched the bridge of his nose. “Why is there so much work…?” You chuckled, “maybe you should take a break?” But that was when you noticed Ango’s abnormal breathing and sweating, you pressed your hand against his forehead to feel his temperature. Ango, without a thought, pulled back with a flushed face and stuttered. “W-w-what are you doing…??” “Hey I’m just measuring your temp! Hold still!”
You mentally winced at the burning heat radiated from his forehead. With a concerned look on your face, you asked, “Are you still working even though you got a fever?” Ango sighed in frustration. “There’s still so much work… you expect me to slack off now??” You stood over his desk, hands at your hips and brows furrowed. “Yep! You’re taking a break now!” Without another word, you dragged him to the staff break room and had him lay on the couch, before getting an icepack and water for him. Upon returning, you had him chuck down the water and gently placed the icepack on his forehead. You leant down to press a kiss on his mole as you smiled at him.
“As your subordinate, I have to advise you to take work off for the rest of this week.”
Tumblr media
ODASAKU —▵▿
“Big brother!”
The children all rushed towards Oda, hopping around him trying to catch his attention. You, sitting at the back of the room, chuckled at the wholesome sight. “The kids missed you a lot, yknow.” Oda kneeled down to pat each child on the head. The man may always have a poker face and doesn’t talk much, but for so long, he had taken good care of you and all the orphans. This time everyone worked their hardest to return their gratitude by taking care of him after he fell ill from the previous mission.
“Yu, can you help get some tissues?” You asked one of the kids to help you grab stuff as you wrapped Oda in a warm blanket. “You know you don’t have to take care of me like this, right?” He huddled close to the soft blanket and flashed you a concerned look. You placed a finger against his lips as you shushed him. “Shh, you’re sick. Don’t worry about it and let us take care of you.”
For the rest of the day, you and all the children kept keeping Oda accompanied, taking turns telling him stories as you cooked dinner for him downstairs. At night, all of you would cuddle up against each other as you ate dinner in the bedroom. Eventually, you put all of the children to bed before returning to Oda. You pressed a kiss on his forehead before threading your fingers through his red locks. “Are you feeling better?” Oda hummed as he leaned against your touch.
“Get well soon, alright?”

Oda Didn’t Understand Dazai: An Opinion By Me
Tumblr media
@catboychuuuya wanted me to elaborate on that bit in my Soukoku post about Odasaku not really understanding Dazai. I aim to please, so here I am.
Let’s begin
Part A: Buraiha Trio
Oda wasn’t necessarily a bad friend. He just didn’t really know what to do with Dazai. I actually think Ango was both a better friend toward, and had a better understanding of, Dazai (Oda pushed Dazai toward the light, but Ango was the reason he got to stay there).
Oda decided that Dazai should live in the light, but I think Ango always thought he belonged there. Like he knew that Dazai had the potential to be good.
In the prologue of the Dark Era light novel, Ango is the one truly bothered by Dazai’s apathy and suicidal tendencies. Oda has very mild reactions to all of it. Dazai is basically crying out for help, and Oda’s reactions are very indulgent (kind of “that’s nice, sweetie”).
"'Oh yeah, I created a new hot-pot recipe. Would you guys be up to trying it next time we hang out? I call it the 'superhuman stamina pot.' You can run for hours without getting tired after eating it. It’s a dream of a—'
'Not in a million years,' Ango sternly declined.
'If it keeps you from getting tired, then it might be pretty useful before a hard day's work,' I added.
'…Odasaku, that's exactly the problem right there. You're enabling Dazai. You don't speak up, and that's why he goes off the rails.'
I see. So this was what Ango meant by 'enabling' him. You learn something new every day."
Now, again, Oda was not a bad person or friend. It’s normal to joke around with your friends. But also, I think it’s pretty clear (Particularly in Storm Bringer and the Dark Era) that Dazai was genuinely struggling in the mafia. He was extremely unhappy.
Another problem with Oda is that he put Dazai on a pedestal like almost everyone else in the mafia (exceptions are Chuuya and Ango for sure).
"No matter what he did, Dazai seemed to reach heights that normal people couldn’t."
The difference between Odasaku and the rest of the mafia is that Dazai greatly admired Odasaku. He admired his belief system and resolve. That’s why I think it’s so sad that Oda didn’t really understand Dazai, because Dazai took Oda’s word as gospel.
There’s one last quote from the prologue that I want to talk about:
"We had a saying in the Port Mafia: 'The greatest misfortune for Dazai’s enemies is that they are Dazai’s enemies.' If he wanted to, he could even have a picnic in the middle of a firefight. Dazai was practically born to be in the Mafia."
This is the first case where I think it’s clear that Oda has a fundamental misunderstanding of Dazai.
Dazai was not born to be in the mafia. He was groomed to be in mafia by Mori. Mori picked him because he was an extremely intelligent, yet directionless child. I think we all spend so much time thinking of Dazai as a puppet master that we forget that he is also capable of being manipulated himself.
Dazai is eighteen during the Dark Era. Eighteen. He’s a teenager. He’s not a mastermind. He’s a lost kid in desperate need of guidance. He spent four incredibly formative years of his life suffering under Mori’s thumb (One before officially joining the mafia, three after). Odasaku was Dazai’s hope, someone he could look to instead of Mori. He wanted to be like him so badly.
Part B: Something to Live For
“Odasaku…,” Dazai said softly. “Forgive me for the absurd wording, but—don’t go. Find something to rely on. Expect good things to happen from here on out. There’s gotta be something…”
Yeah, you read that right. Dazai just presented an optimistic outlook on life.
He’s speaking to someone who has just lost his main purpose in being in the mafia, taking care of those orphans. Yet, he’s begging him to find a new reason to live anyway.
Part C: Last Words
That brings me to Odasaku’s final moments.
“‘You won’t find it,’ Odasaku said in almost a whisper. Dazai stared at him. ‘You should know that. Whether you’re on the side that takes lives or the side that saves them, nothing beyond your own expectations will happen. Nothing in this world can fill the hole that is your loneliness. You will wander the darkness for eternity.’”
Okay, so, Odasaku is right that Dazai won’t find purpose in the darkness, but he’s wrong about why. Dazai is not an empty person incapable of happiness. Even though Dazai thinks this means that Odasaku understood him well, we can’t forget that Dazai doesn’t really understand himself. His feelings. His mind. Dazai genuinely believes that nothing can make him happy, but he’s wrong and the consequences to Oda’s words are huge.
Now, Dazai thinks he’s a villain pretending to be hero. He thinks he’s inherently empty. WHICH IS WRONG.
Think about why Dazai went to Oda’s side in the first place. Because Oda was his friend. Dazai put his personal feelings first in that situation, and he does that more often than people tend to notice. He’s actually motivated by emotions a lot.
During Storm Bringer, Dazai basically moves Heaven and Earth to stop Verlaine and keep Chuuya in the mafia.
“‘I joined the Mafia because of an expectation I had. I thought if I was close to death and violence—close to people giving in to their urges and desires, then I would be able to see the inner nature of humankind up close. I thought if I did that…’ Dazai paused before continuing, ‘…I would be able to find something—a reason to live.’”
We have to remember who prompted Dazai to think that, Chuuya. An idea born from Dazai’s relationship to another person, not the idea itself, was what made him join the mafia.
Ranpo is definitely autistic coded, but so is Dazai. Since No Longer Human was extremely influential on BSD, and that novel has a lot of autobiographical elements in it, it makes sense that Dazai seems autistic. After reading No Longer Human myself, I really do think that Osamu Dazai (the author) was autistic. Yōzō’s (the protagonist of No Longer Human) behavior is very autistic. I mean, at one point, he describes masking verbatim.
I’m mentioning this because I think that what Dazai hopes to understand is not a reason to live itself, but other people’s motivation to live. It’s an extension of the very autistic feeling of alienation from other people. Dazai thinks there’s something wrong with him because despite caring about other people a lot, he has trouble understanding their illogical behavior. He also struggles to understand his own illogical behavior.
I also think this is why Oda struggles to understand Dazai. Because people who aren’t autistic usually struggle to understand autism. Autistic people often get profiled as ‘sociopaths’ (an outdated term that refers to Antisocial Personality Disorder) and are seen as emotionless monsters.
Dazai distances himself from other people as a defense mechanism. In his own words, “I always lose the things I don’t want to lose the most. That’s why I don’t feel anything anymore. The moment you get your hands on something worth going after, you lose it. That’s just how things are. There is nothing worth pursuing at the cost of prolonging a life of suffering.” I think that indicates that he cares very much about the people in his life, but that he also lives in constant fear of losing them.
Conclusion
I don’t know how well I articulated any of this (I’m neurodivergent, can you tell?), but my point is that Odasaku took a lot about Dazai at face value, instead of trying to peel back the layers and understand him as a person. He ended up dehumanizing Dazai a bit in the process.
Dazai is far from perfect, but he’s also not inhuman.
I think about this quote from Atsushi a lot, “People need to be told they’re worthy of being alive by someone else or they can’t go on.” Like, what would have happened if someone told Dazai his life was worth living even without some grand purpose?

Guess who's still crying about Beast? Me! I watched the movie and read the beggining and end of the light novel because I got lazy. Not expecting the end in the movie though. Spoiler drawing ahead and comments btw
Tumblr media
Made me so sad. I was going to rant in another post, but I might as well do it here.
So, number one, the sugar cube scene was so adorable I literally cried. I mean it. Like I LITERALLY sobbed.
Number 2, Oda WHYYYYYYYY?! I'M LITERALLY CRYING WHILE TYPING WRITE NOW THINKING ABOUT IT. YOU ARE FRIENDS, YOU ARE, PLEASEEEE. DAZAI'S FACE WHEN HE PULLED THE GUN OUT IN THE BAR AND TOLD HIM NOT TO CALL HIM ODASAKU WAS LIKE A SLAP TO THE FACE.
Number 3, When at the end of the movie, Fyoder was being a little rat and messed everything up, I wanted to vomit out of an array of emotions. I was confused, sad, angry, and just so dang overwhelmed. Like I was ugly crying five seconds ago cuz of Dazai and then this SEWER RAT came and made me confused. I'll get into him in anothe post.
Number 4, In the movie, when Dazai stabbed his leg to show Chuuya his commitment and how much he deserves his trust didn't make sense when I saw it, however, after I recently read the book and watched the play Julius Ceaser, I was like OOOOOOOOH. Dazai immitating Portia and Chuuya Brutus made me just sooo....wow.
Number 5, When it turned out that MORI was the new director I just- absolutley NOT. Do NOT put a pedophile in his perfect Utopia, Dazai WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?! Also, I thought he killed him the whole time. Just think about it. A pedophile in an orphanage. You know how if you're being sexually assulted or something, you're supposed to tell a trusted adult like a parentor a teacher? THESE KIDS HAVE NO PARENTS.
Number 6, Chuuya being locked up in that poor governemnt facility broke my heart. Just think about how many people are going to die? Like there is no way Chuuya Nakahara is going to succumb to a bunch of itsy bitsy chains. He' breaking out and killing everyone in there and then the agency. Convince me otherwise.
Number 7, I can't. I'll make an entirely seperate post for Chuuya too, but can we just talk for a second? He went crazy because Dazai committed suicide. He went on a whole rampage and it took 3 special ability resistance units to take him down. This is what happens when there is no Dazai when he uses corruption. But the REASON he went into corruption was just...wow. I always knew they had a complicated relationship but at the same time it was just so simple. Like, they hate eachother, but they also don't. They don't like eachother, but it's not like they don't either. It's not like they complete one another, but it's like one soul in two bodies. They're so simply complicated that if you asked me what their relation was, I'd just say, they're complications. Because in reality, their relationship is just so unexplainable. You need to see it to understand it. There are lovers, enemys, frenemies, friends, siblings, etc, but they fit into literally no category but they aren't strangers either. This is getting too long, so I'll make a different post about that.
Number 8, Chuuya pleaseeee don'ttttt. There is no need to attack the agency, my guy. He wants to avenge Dazai's death, but what is there to avenge? Dazai did suicide. He wasn't killed. Chuuya was so upset that he wanted to kill all the agency. I just....can't. It's kind of sad. This is also going to be really long if I go on, so I'll make another post about this topic.
Number 9, the way Chuuya just really couldn't understand made me wanna bang my head on the wall in tears. He truly couldn't think of why Dazai did it. He was kind of alright one second and then dead the next. The entire time, you can tell how little Chuuya was incorporated into the script he wrote. The ending for each one was different as the movie had him go insane and be put under governemnt care, while the light novel just left him to do his own thing. However, in both you can see that neither of them ever knew what was going on. Dazai never gave him a reason to why he killed himself. Everyone else seems to be going on like nothing happened or at least as if they know what happened and came to terms with it, but then he knows nothing. He was his bodyguard and right hand man and yet NOTHING. I'll get back to this in another post lol. TvT
So yeah. I cried a lot.

The first time that it happened, it was when he was frantically called to return to hq from his mission in France when he learned that dazai have finally left.
Figure that dazai would somehow manage to be troublesome even without being near him, it led him to have to search through the toxic waste that dazai called a home after defeating the numerous trap and having to pass through the bottles of beer and whisky and the cans of canned crab.
It was in an unassuming place in the shipping container that chuuya found a bunch of flowers : Aloe ( grief), butterfly weed ( let me go), Sweet pea ( goodbye, thank you for a lovely time), purple hyacinth (please forgive me, sorrow) , dark crimson rose ( mourning) and Pink carnation ( i'll never forget you) with a single sunflower seed.
And chuuya was loyal he swore his loyalty to the port mafia and It's members, it was his home and family and he intend to follow this vow till his death but chuuya was one of the few that could claim to know dazai and one things is sure bringing dazai back to the mafia against his wish will only end in the mutually assured destruction of him and the mafia, at least that what he told the boss when he asked him what he found.
He didn't tell anyone not even the boss, hirotsu-san and ane-san that his others reasoning was that he knew that bringing him back will be a betrayal to his partner and that he understand the message, while he make his search the mimic conflict stood out for him and while he mourned all their loss and deeply regreted the fact that he couldn't be here, his name lingered on the name of oda sakunosuke.
Dazai couldn't shut up about him and he would never admit him even under the threat of torture but a part of him have feel jealous of his closeness to dazai.
He and dazai others buddy we're gone and while he can't say that he fully understood all that he's thinking and he was really glad for that, those flower let him know that dazai was alive and let him have an idea of why he was gone, he could only hope that he would find what he search for no matter what it was but if dazai won't go after the mafia in retaliation, chuuya would do nothing.
So he went to do an exchange of favors with prof glasses to cover dazai trace, he saw Verlaine and ane-san more often while he wasn't with hirotsu-san or the boss and Elise, he took over akutagawa training, went training with the black lizards, drink with kajii, tachihara and hirotsu, go on mission, proved his loyalty to the mafia and drunk the bottle of petrus that he got from dazai in celebration of his departure and he said nothing about all the flower that he received in the three year that he didn't see that bandage wasting device.
He never told dazai what he learned with kouyou but he somehow learned that he know the language of flower, it's why in all those random place he found an Hydrangea ( gratitude for being understood) in his desk a few days after that he found the bunch of flower, then he found many more flower, in his apartment, in the port mafia lobby, even in his mission or when he went shopping or his vacation.
Yarrow (Everlasting love) , Zinnia ( lasting affection), white rose (a fresh start), blue Salvia (I think of you) as well as red Salvia (Forever mine), Heliotrope ( devotion), Fern ( fascination , secret bond of love) , gardenia (you're lovely),white camellia ( you're adorable), Daffodil ( You’re the only one, The sun shines when I’m with you), red carnation (my heart ache for you), Forget-Me-Not ( do not forget me) , Gloxinia ( love at first sight) and primrose ( can't live without you) we're amongst the flowers that he received, it went to the point that they're was a rumors that he have an admirator secret.
It was even worse on his birthdays when he would never fail to receive flowers and Anonymous gift with a card and a prank that both infuriated him and brought a smile to his face.
And it didn't even stop when he saw him again not after their reunion the first flower that he received when he came back home after having seen dazai in the dungeon was a red camellia ( love, passion and desire) " you set my heart on fire), then after their mission he received a pink camellia ( heartfelt longing for someone)" longing for you" and white roses ( heavenly, i'm worthy of you) " i'm thinking of you".
And this day on june 19th the day dazai was born , he decided that this time he will be the one to surprise him , it was easy to send an anonymous tip on a day that dazai was away on a mission with his birthday, it was also easy to send a subordunate to have the agency go on a mission to suribashi city where the subordinate dispersed a bunch of peach blossom after all he remember that when he was drunk and he asked dazai what was his favorite flower, it was this flower who mean i am your captive and your charm are unequalled that was his answer. And send others subordonate to brink dazai to an izakaya in funabashi where they put homemade amanattō,pan, natto, dango, soba, Tsukemono, tempura ,sashimi, kasutera, unagi , miso soup, tofu as well as a fruit salad with banana .
He then had others subordonate bring him to bar lupin where he paid the owner to store a curry that he bought in Osaka and to give dazai a signed manuscript of the first edition of the complete guide to suicide with never seen before annotations and another manuscript of the draft of Oda sakunosuke book that he found in an antique shop thanks to a strange calico cat as well as have him drink whisky on ice with prof glasses.
Then he have made this wild goose chase one by one with the member of the agency and even send the akutagawa siblings and hirotsu it was then easy to have him eat chazuke with his mentee but also have him enjoy many others food like Nikujaga, sukiyaki, yakitori, taiyaki, seafood hot pot and Tamago Kake Gohan.
Then he went to buy a new console and game that dazai couldn't stop talking about, as well as an expensive bottle of alcohol and booked a restaurant to a seafood restaurant renowned for his crab dishes, flower in hand he saw a smiling dazai that just left his birthday party at the agency.
But of all things what make dazai eyes sparkles was when he finally agree to wear the damned maid dress, dazai while putting a sunflower in his hair had a bright and real smile on his face that made his heart skip a beat let him know how much he apprecied his birthday and it made him happy that he can make dazai enjoy a day that he loathes so much.

hi just reread your master for the nth time and I just realized since the hunting dogs body will each and rot if they do not receive the surgery how would that work??????
hope you have a good day
Tumblr media
Hello.
I am doing good. I also hope, that you have a nice day. 🥰
Hunting dogs are safe in this AU. They were lucky to appear at the certain point of canon.
Self-Aware! BSD. World Building. Canon chains
Warning: English is my second language. Spoilers for BSD Manga, LN and Anime.
_____
Canon chains - events and information that happened or were mentioned in canon.
Canon chains include events or information from:
Untold Origin Arc
Fifteen arc
STORMBRINGER arc
Day I Picked Up Dazai novel
Dark Era arc
Entrance Exam Arc
Gaiden (If I understand correctly, it happened somewhere here)
Port Mafia Arc
The Guild Arc
DEAD APPLE arc
Guild Aftermath Arc
Cannibalism arc
What happened or were mentioned in these arcs are, in some way, set in stone and can't be escaped.
BSD Cast understand it and don't try to change the outcome.
But, in time, Canon chains became more loose.
_______
1. From Untold Origin to Port Mafia arcs.
Chains are strong. They can't be broken. It that point, no matter, what characters do, they can't change
Example: Fifteen arc. Rimbaud's death would still happen. Even if Mori choose to lock Rimbaud up, at the moment of his death, the wound will appear on Rimbaud's body, killing him.
STORMBRINGER arc. Flags still would be dead, even if Verlaine decide to stay away from them.
Dead Era arc. Oda and Gide still would die, even if Oda will wear a full body armor during his fight with Gide or Gide will stay in the outskirts of Yokohama. Or Mori would ask someone else to investigate Ango's disappearance.
________
2. The Guild Arc, Dead Apple and The Guild Aftermath.
BSD Cast self-awareness are slowly destroying the chains of canon. The closer to The Cannibalism arc is, the more freedom in actions characters get.
Now, the outcome of events won't be the same.
Example. The Guild Arrival at Yokohama and their clash with ADA. In canon, it leads to Yosano healing other ADA members.
Now, there were no clash, and two sides just talked, sharing information. The consequences - ADA members feel sore for no reason, but, there is no need to Yosano's ability.
Another example. Akutagawa didn't fight against Mitchell and Hawthorne. Mitchell didn't get injures from Rasenmon out of nowhere, but she did feel sore for the next few days.
Another example. Q weren't captured, The Guild didn't try to use their ability to destroy Yokohama. Instead of mass destruction, there were some broken asphalt and that's all.
And, Fitzgerald and Shin Soukoku weren't fighting, they, once again, simply talked. Fitzgerald didn't lose all his money and wedding ring. Yes, he uses some sum of money and a tiny part of the ring, but, otherwise, he wasn't hurt.
_________
3. Cannibalism arc and so on.
Canon chains are barely holding. Characters almost get their freedom.
What made canon chains broke? Karma's fate.
At that point of time, almost everyone can hear your voice clearly. So, Fyodor, who became interested in you, after hearing, that you feel sorry for Karma, decide not to kill him and took Karma with him.
Starting from that point and beyond, chains are broken.
Only basic information (age, height, weight, likes, dislikes, ability) and what we learned during the new characters' first appearance are set in stone.
Their past remains mostly the same. So, Tachihara still a part of Hunting Dogs.
If, after that, something serious is added, it won't affect characters.
Example. In this AU Akutagawa isn't sick, because we learn about this after the Cannibalism arc and after Canon chains were destroyed.
From that point, all body alterations won't happen to the characters.
Example: Kunikida won't lose his arms, Tachihara won't be blinded. Both of them won't even feel an urge to itch.
As for Hunting Dogs surgeries.
From their first appearance, we learn, their names, why Hunting Dogs exit, and that they are super strong.
We didn't learn anything about mandatory surgeries and rotting bodies.
So, this information won't affect them. Hunting Dogs won't need them and could live in a real world without fearing for their lives.

Perhaps; Mixing Dazai Up And Putting Him Back Comprehensively
As a hater of Dazai Osamu from Bungou Stray Dogs, I'd like to think that I have a rather clear view of the guy. There's nothing about him in particular that pisses me off, but there's everything about him that messes me up.
I've been assigned as his kinnie far too many times, despite how I'd like to think that I'm closer to Fyodor Dostoevsky. My results have constantly gotten in my face, and I'm upset.
Personally, I'm not a Dazai or Fyodor kinnie. I belong to Fernando Pessoa, a jumbled up man, as most know his personality to be. Friedrich Nietzsche would suffice too, I suppose.
Nonetheless, the following is my analysis of the mystery known as Dazai Osamu. Please note that there will be comparisons made with Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen.
Perhaps the only real thing about Dazai that we see is his suicidal tendencies, so I will be starting from that and spread my way out.
This is from the experience of someone who used to be suicidal when experiencing childhood depression, so many things might be off, but not too off.
I remember... My suicidal tendencies stemmed from a sense of pity for myself. Oddly, I was suicidal before I was depressed.
According to my information of that man, which is barely any, Ougai Mori took him in when he was in the midst of committing suicide. Obviously, the guy was already suicidal.
I see a descend into depression, throughout his years in the Port Mafia.
He didn't change at all when he defected, and entered the Armed Detective Agency. His mask changed, not him.
He put on a mask where he seems so close to himself, yet so far.
He switched up his tactics. Truth is, he probably doesn't care for Atsushi, his mask does.
Because, understand this, if a person can change, he was always capable of change, he just didn't want to.
Maybe Oda mattered to him, an escape, if you will. Or perhaps, a chance to discover a new mask, one that felt more comfortable.
And when we compare the oh-so-beloved Dazai to Gojo Satoru, Dazai starts to seem weird. There is one major question: Why does he need a mask? Unlike Gojo, he doesn't hold the responsibility and weight of his people. In fact, he doesn't have his people.
Perhaps it's a nasty habit, to keep the mask on. But... I refuse to believe that he hasn't tried to remove it.
I am to presume that his mask was removed for the first time when he was at Bar Lupin, when he feared things would start to go south. Yet, he seems so much more real then, as compared to during Oda's death.
I don't know if I'm going crazy, but that's what I see in my memories.
And I'm just now realizing that life is hard, because everyone in Bungo Stray Dogs is broken, emotionally constipated in some way. Except... Fukuzawa, perhaps?
So, to get back on track.
Dazai has no reason to be wearing a mask, but he is wearing one.
And, let's see.
They mentioned that Dazai and Fyodor Dostoevsky are parallels, right? I'm not entirely sure how they are parallels, because they appear entirely different to me, but let's analyze.
The only common ground I see between the two of them is their intelligence. Or rather, their thinking process.
Understand that Dazai is so much more complex than Fyodor's, because at least we understand that Fyodor has a goal, but where is Dazai's?
Often times, people mischaracterize their MBTIs, so I will be providing my own using Fyodor. Ultimately, their thinking processes are the same, just serving different purposes.
Fyodor is definitely an introvert.
Between sensing and intuition... That is where they differ.
Definitely thinking, and finally...
Between judging and percieving, I'd say it is judging.
Now, to comprehend this, we look at the difference between an INTJ and an ISTJ. These two MBTIs are so similar, yet so different.
For me, I feel that Dazai is an INTJ, constantly responding to Fyodor's ISTJ schemes. Why? Because I think Dazai should be able to complement Fyodor, and Fyodor is definitely an ISTJ.
The INTJ holds the cognitive stack of introverted intuition, extroverted thinking, introverted feeling and extroverted sensing. I won't be explaining what exactly the cognitive stack means, but in short, this makes him a crazy intelligent man who is entirely emotionally constipated.
He doesn't understand himself, which makes it so that others don't understand him. After all, how can the master of the house show his guests around his house, if he himself is unaware of every twist and turn, every painting on the wall?
And his intelligence, it's made possible from his keen eye to detail, cracking Fyodor open and acting accordingly.
And, I'm an INTJ myself. I can observe some parts of myself in him. I just never comprehended the way in which he functioned.
I'd always thought that Fyodor would've won, but Dazai came back on too because he can adapt. He can figure Fyodor out, and pull him along.
And his experience is what makes him so refined of an individual. The mafia didn't fuck him up; The mafia allowed him to thrive, thrive till he could survive, till he could figure out the mask that people liked.

Do people really think that skk hate eachother?
After the fight with Lovecraft, we have a scene where Dazai smiles at Chuuya; this is one of the only genuine smiles we ever get from Dazai. Most of the time he is playing up a facade and he is very hard to read but he always seems to smile more genuinely when he is around Chuuya, especially when Chuuya isn't looking at him.
What I think those two have are very complicated feelings that haven't changed since they were 15-18.
Skk never got to be friends, they were always partners, "Double Black", Port Mafia's prodigies. They didn't get the chance to just be kids and see the better sides of eachother, their relationship didn't grow organically over the years but became stunted at a time when both of them were only teenagers. Thrust in an environment where there's not much positivity, Skk were always at odds because of their clashing personalities and mutual dislike (and their similarities)
I don't think that dislike ever became hate. I think they did become closer as the years passed, but then of course Dazai left.
While saying Chuuya was sad when Dazai left is a way to show their care for eachother. I would say, Chuuya was REALLY angry when Dazai left (that's why he drank that expensive wine, it was out of spite). How can he leave? Does he have no loyalty to the PM? Does he have no loyalty to Chuuya? They were partners, he can't just leave without a word.
Dazai left without a word because he knew how mad Chuuya would be at him when he finds out, he knew if he thought about Chuuya there would be a part of him that wouldn't want to leave this partnership that they have had since three years. It was something that gave him excitement in this "worthless thing they call living" it was his will to live. He also didn't want the PM to think Chuuya was involved with him and helped him in leaving.
I do think Dazai leaving PM made Chuuya dislike him even more. Dazai was not only annoying, he was also disloyal.
But when it comes to Dazai, I don't think he hated Chuuya at all. His fondness for Chuuya is what makes him not want to like him. It's the same way Nikolai wants to kill Fyodor for being the only one who understands him. Dazai doesn't want to kill Chuuya, when he says "I have been thinking about ways to kill Chuuya since 7 years" it's a lie, a joke for him, a facade. He could have done that any time in 7 years but he chose not to. He knows when it comes to it, he can't kill Chuuya.
Chuuya would say he hates Dazai but goes out of his way to save him everytime. In Dead Apple, he risked his own life to save Dazai who could have been dead for all he knew. But he still took the chance, believing that Dazai would have a plan and that he would know that Chuuya is going to risk it. (Also I wholeheartedly believe Dazai has some fantasies about being rescued by Chuuya, that Mf totally does)
Their trust in eachother is so strong, that even when they are on the enemy side, they are able to work together, putting their differences apart. They have never had a "real" fight like Atsushi and Akutagawa, it's more of snide remarks and calling nicknames, like their teenage selves.
I don't think Chuuya is aware of these complicated feelings, he has manifested his dislike of Dazai's antics and personality to a point he had hidden his care for him. On the other hand, Dazai is very aware of these feelings, he knows he cares. So he fakes it, acting out as usual the idea that he hates Chuuya, because he knows loving and caring for someone does not end well for him (look at Oda). He doesn't want to lose another person he cares for.
In retrospect as memeable and funny those two "confession" scenes are in S5; it's the first time Dazai is not lying, he is acknowledging his care for Chuuya in a way it feels authentic and real to Fyodor, so they could trick him. It's their plan, yes, but the reason it feels real is because IT IS. No wonder Chuuya shot him so many times ("Dazai's being stupid again, making me feel things, embarrassing me in front of the enemy").
This isn't a shipping post, I do ship Skk, but their bond is so deep that you can look at it in a platonic way and very little would change.

Ok I finally got it. Natsume had the book, either he created it or it was given to him or he found it, then he gave it to Oda (the third installment of the series that’s so rare because it’s literally the book) then Oda gives up the book when the kids die by telling Dazai about it (or at least giving him enough information to figure it out there by making Dazai the new owner). But Oda had written in the book, created an opportunity for Dazai to have a better life and do good. But he left it at his own death so Dazai would still be making the choice himself. Dazai finds the book among Oda’s belongings and tries to bring Oda back and give him happiness and then BEAST happens. He creates a world in which Oda is happy, uses Akutagawa as the protagonist and creates Atsushi using the Book to be the antagonist/shapeshifter, bases his ability on Natsume’s and lets the story unfold. But because of a singularity caused by his ability interacting with the Book instead of changing his own realities past he creates an alternate reality that only he is aware of. In that alternate reality he cannot die until the story is completed and he passes the Book on to the next Author/Authors. So he passes it to Akutagawa and Atsushi and kills himself knowing there is a reality in which Oda is happy. Back in the main universe Dazai struggles to continue the story/find a successor, because he can’t die unless he doesn’t own the book but he can only alter the future, not the past or present. So he writes a story about 6 organizations vying for the book beginning 2 years in the future, it takes him 2 years to write. He uses Atsushi as the protagonist this time and sets him up to inherit the book with a heroes journey to prepare him and Dazai as his mentor to guide him.
Dazai will die at the end, no doubt about it. The entire story is written by Dazai, which is why he always knows what’s going to happen. He gave the single page to the special operations division to set up the decay of angels arc. He and Fyodor are so similar because Dazai wrote him. Well, he wrote his actions and how it played out, but the DoA existed before he got the book.
I think maybe his suicide attempts, at least serious ones, stopped while he was in the Mafia. He was searching for meaning in life and he caught a glimpse of it in the Mafia. He wasn’t invincible while he was there, he was just not trying to die. But after Oda died his suicidal tendencies came back in full force, but Oda had made him unable to die without writing a story with narrative consistency so he couldn’t just say “then Dazai Osamu died painlessly in his sleep.”
Btw if anyone else came up with the same thing I swear I didn’t steal it. I didn’t look at any theories currently in circulation. Mostly because I’ve been focusing on canon but also because so many people just don’t understand the fundamentals of the story or characters so I knew if I did I would be sifting through endless painful misinterpretations. (Yes I’m a bit of a bitch and a lit snob im not gonna deny it. But I took an advanced accelerated college lit class at 17 so I would say my confidence is warranted)

‘Tis I! Rambling anon once again >:)
On the topic of Dazai’s love language-
His love language as quality time and acts of service does not go without reason. As someone who had spent his developing years in an environment where threats are the new compliments, where surviving meant compliance, where affection was a social death sentence, what else could he do? And to find people like Chuuya and Ango and Oda who expected nothing of him, who let him be a kid when everyone else only saw him as the mafia’s terrifying young executive, what wouldn’t he do to keep that? He had no coercion to help them, to stick around them when he was much higher in the ranks than all three combined. And yet here were these people who saw him as a boy. A human boy. But Dazai, who was never formally taught how to use words, spoke gratitude through actions. Through the little things- New Years cards, questionable soup, protection from other mafia members and especially Mori, and everything else that wasn’t explicitly in the series. Even when Dazai did learn how to use words it never quite stuck with him. Why would they? Who uses arbitrary sounds that could be lies and tricks to express something so genuine? Actions cannot lie. And for once Dazai didn’t want to lie for the people who kept him a little more sane.
While it’s understandable that people would consider physical affection as his primary love language, it only feels as real for certain people. Namely Chuuya. Because as much as he touches other people and gets to their core, how many people does he really allow to do the same for him? When he joined the agency using his silly little blank slate persona he saw so many more people hugging and giving each other light brushes- people who were much more normal than him. So he adopted that too- letting himself touch strangers in a way that wasn’t so rough. It became a part of how he presented himself- this careless little guy who had totally never seen or used a gun in his life, much less a semi-automatic. This man who loved to be careless and physically affectionate and probably had nothing more than a bachelors in interdisciplinary studies for all they knew. But god forbid someone tries to hug him just as seriously. And the more he learns to love humanity, realizes these new people care about him past his act, that even though he’s annoying as hell, they still care about his well being. And when he tells them about who he was, they say- “oh, damn. And?” They don’t yell at him. Don’t coddle him or kick him out. Don’t lose their trust in him. Because that was then, this is now. And so what wouldn’t he do to keep that? So he does the most genuine thing he knows. He saves them all.
Stay safe and take care! <3
I agree with most of this, but Chuuya became an executive before Dazai. Dazai holds the title of youngest executive in history because he's younger than Chuuya, who had the title before Dazai took it.
Also I don't know what Dazai would've been protecting them from Mori for, because while he did get Oda killed it wasn't out of any malicious intent it was just the best thing for the Mafia.
But much love dear anon, I enjoy your takes <3

Dazai X Odasaku!Sister Ch8
Tumblr media
Chapter 8: "I'll Be Here To Welcome You"
Summary: Oda's sister finds herself at Dazai's port mafia apartment after he offered to let her stay the night. He tries to get a reaction out of her but fails miserably, or does he? (Part 1 of 2, this one is more fluff and the next part will be very angst.)
Warning: pm! fifteen year old dazai, Dazai self destructing, Odasaku death mentions, Dazai is rough but for a purpose, manipulative behavior from both sides, underage drinking, talks of suicide. I gave Oda's sister a name but you can imagine it as y/n.
(This is chapter eight of my fanfic "Timeless" which is now on A03. It carries on from the three part intro I posted a couple days ago. I'll link it below to fully understand the story. Asagao's ability is to stop time for up to six seconds.)
Three Part Intro Here: (just cause the first chapter is so long)
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
A03 Version Here:
Word count: 5k total
As the two kids made their way through the city streets of Yokohama, Dazai’s fingers tightened onto Odasaku’s sister’s wrist in order to drag her to their next destination.
He had tried to walk in front of her but after a couple blocks it was clear that Asagao’s blurry eyesight along with her drunken giggles betrayed her with each step, bumping into nearby strangers and random walls. And though it was quite funny to watch, the boy also didn’t really wanna treat a concussion tonight.
But Dazai also didn’t really like the connotation that hand holding had either, the touch far too personal and intimate for his liking. So, he settled on her wrist, pulling her behind him like some sort of puppy on a leash. It wasn’t like Asa seemed to mind though.
No, in fact it was like the girl was in her own world, smiling like an idiot the entire time as they turned another corner only for her to finally speak since their time at the bar. “Hey, Osu. Not that I’m not happy about your offer or anything but now that I think about it, isn’t it gonna seem suspicious for me to go to your house like this?”
Dazai only shook his head though, pausing his steps for a moment in order to pull his arm towards him so the Asagao would stumble forward and meet him halfway. “Don’t worry your pretty little head about it. I do this all the time.”
And stumble she did, the girl gasping at the sudden move only to place her hands onto his forearms for support so she didn’t completely fall on her face. “You do?”
Nodding back, he hummed, not minding the touch as it wasn’t gentle or intimate in any way. “Mhm. Does that make you jealous?”
Asa only turned her head though, clearly confused by what he was trying to say. “Why would I be jealous of that?”
Lifting his fingers up, Dazai’s thumb and forefinger moved toward her cheeks before forcing her head forward in order for him to give a low mischievous smirk.  “Because of the things I do with those women.”
He was messing with her obviously but there was also some truth in his statement, because he did play around with women, he did take them to his port mafia based apartment and then leave them on the street once he was done like nothing had happened.
Dazai used them, he took the attributes that benefited him and then he threw them away without so much of a thank you or a call afterwards.
And now he was doing the same thing to Oda’s sister..well in a way.
He was using her for her ties to his best friend, and the only difference was that Asa was fully aware of it. That didn’t make it right though. Even Dazai could understand that much.
But all that self awareness didn’t stop him from halting his evil ways. What could he say? Bad habits died hard. This was all the boy knew how to do anyways and it was Asa’s fault for ever agreeing to such a toxic relationship to begin with.
Asagao only frowned though, her icy blue eyes batting in pure innocence between his fingers as she replied softly. “Why would that make me jealous though?”
Then all at once, she watched the feared port mafia executive gasp in order to reel back before slumping over in a childish pout. “Ah! Asa-chan, you’re so mean! Girlfriends are supposed to be mad and cry and throw things when boyfriends talk about other women! It’s like you don’t care about me at all!”
The girl only blinked in surprise though, her drunk haze not allowing her to connect the upset in her brain. She thought their relationship was already pretty clear. “But we aren’t really boyfriend and girlfriend though, we are just using each other..”
Yet that’s when Dazai gasped once more before dramatically falling to his hands and knees in order to look up at her and point to his bandaged face. “That doesn’t matter! It’s the principle of the thing. I am an attractive man so it’s only natural you’d be jealous of my history of sleeping with other women and taking them to my place like I'm doing right now with you.”
Didn’t she get it, didn’t she understand that he was treating her just like any other slut and whore that crossed his path? She wasn’t special to him, he had basically told her that to her face and she still wasn’t jealous? He thought she said that she fell for him.
Asa only crouched down to meet him though, her hands wrapping around her knees before giving him that same candy coated sweet smile she always did. “Oh! I couldn’t do that though. What you’ve done in the past and even the present doesn’t bother me. I already know where we stand so you don’t gotta worry about that, Osu!”
Narrowing his eyes in skepticism, Dazai then watched in real time as his insults and mockery dissolved before it hit her face causing the boy to sigh heavily.
She should’ve been mad at him, it would’ve been so much easier than whatever this was.
She had already let him get away with so many things. Why couldn’t she be normal for once and threaten him with the disgust like he deserved? Why was she instead always staring at him with the cute innocent little smile, the one that made his heart twist and turn with self disgust?
Lifting his hands up once more, Dazai than pinched the blind happiness from her lips, pushing her cheeks together in a goofy fashion in order to drop his act with a grumble. “Boo, you’re no fun Asa-chan. What kind of reaction is that? I wanted to see your cheeks get all puffy and your face get all red!
Asagao seemed to think about his sentence for a moment before her own fingers moved to her cheeks in order to puff them out in a fake pout to try and simulate what he was looking for only for Dazai to snort and shake his head in exasperation.
Ah damn it, she was such a cute little drunk. Wasn’t she? Wanting to please him like this even though he was just messing with her. What a loser.
So much so, Dazai then closed his eyes pushing her head down with his hand, rubbing the top of her hair in a messy fashion before standing back up. “Don’t push yourself, darling. You’re gonna pass out like that and I’m not gonna carry you.  Besides, we are here already.”
Reaching his hand out, he then reattached his possessive hold around her wrist before pulling her back off the ground in order to walk up to the massive glass building in front of them.
Asagao felt her head spin at the motion before her blurry eyes couldn’t help but focus on the sight before her. And even with half of the view and alcohol in her system, the girl could tell that the place was intimidating, the building looming over her in silent wait.
She didn’t have much time to process it though as Dazai’s body pushed her past the entrance and into the lobby only for the two kids to be met by a row of lined up black suited men, their heads immediately bowing to the sight of the executive. “Welcome back, sir.”
Dazai completely ignored them though, his posture stiff and ever watchful as Asa gave them a polite smile and bow of her head in return with a small greeting of her own. “Oh, hello. Nice to meet you. I’m..”
Yet that’s then the boy simply tugged her arm forward in order to practically push the girl into the nearest elevator as fast as possible, her unsteady legs stumbling into the wall with a squeak of surprise.
It was rough, yes. But this was how he treated all the other girls that he brought back and it couldn't look any different. No, nothing could raise suspicion that this was more than a typical one night stand. Otherwise their escapade would be reported to Mori.
And that was a headache he didn’t want to deal with, knowing that her existence would cause Mori to dig his claws into the poor innocent Asagao without hesitation.
Hell, she probably shouldn’t have even been here in the first place. Ango would've definitely killed him for it, and not in a fun way.
But living on the edge of danger was an exciting thrill Dazai couldn’t pass up. He knew he could be smarter than Mori. He knew he could fool him, and that enough was reason to test his little theory and win.
But in order to do that, he had to make this little act believable. That’s why he didn’t bat an eye at his rough demeanor, simply stepping into the elevator only to watch his idiot lackey subordinates try to follow.
Oh no, he couldn’t have that. Seems like they were already suspicious of his intentions. Asagao wasn’t normally the type of girl he would’ve brought back after all. She was dorky and naive, usually the sluts he picked were stupid but but clearly experienced.
Turning his head back to the men, Dazai spoke, his voice chilling and final. “That won’t be necessary.”
And for a moment, the men hesitated, their steps pausing before glancing back to the red haired female and then back to their boss in reply. “But sir..”
Realizing he needed to prove his intentions, Dazai then turned back to Oda’s sister before closing his eyes with conflict. He had a plan, he knew how to get them off his back but he also knew that Odasaku wouldn’t have approved.
But desperate times caused for desperate measures.
And to make matters worse, his silent stare seemed to cause Asagao to sense the tension as well, her head turning in drunken confusion before lifting her hand out in concern. “Osam..”
Yet before she could finish his name, Dazai’s hand grasped onto hers forcefully in order to push his body into hers as Asagao’s back slammed against the wall of the elevator before he shifted his head to obstruct the view of the subordinates.
Then he slapped his hand over her surprised mouth before pressing his lips roughly to his own hand, the distance practically nonexistent as Dazai’s handmade barrier became the only thing keeping the two from skin to skin contact.
But from the way his head was turned, the men only saw the executives body and hair in order for them to make the connection in their mind that Dazai had ravaged her lips in a possessive claim of ownership.
The move only lasted for a second before the executive allowed his hand to drop from her lips in order to place one shushing motion in its place and turn around towards the watchful eyes with cold resolve. “I said, I wanted to be alone. Or do I need to repeat myself?”
All at once, the men jumped in clear fear before immediately bowing in apology in order to click the elevator button with a gasp. “Sorry sir, please enjoy your night.”
Then the door closed, leaving Dazai and Asagao alone as the cocky victorious boy turned towards her with a teasing smirk. “Now don’t get carried away, Asa-chan. You know why I did that right?”
Yet the moment he turned to her, it seemed like Asa was frozen in place, her entire body as still as a statue, almost like she was in some sort of state of shock. “Y-Yeah no. I get it. They were suspicious so you had to…”
Nodding back in confirmation, Dazai then lowered his eyes before deciding to mock her even more, his hands resting on the wall a couple inches from her head. “Of course, that’s just a little sample. If you wanted, once we get to my place I could remove my hand and we could continue where we left off?”
Yet a second later, the boy simply freed her from his prison in order to give her a goofy defensive stance. “Just kidding! I know better than to expect that kind of reaction from you.”
She hadn’t given him anything when he played the jealousy card so Dazai was sure that it would be the same here. It seemed like the girl had no self awareness that he was a man at all. She didn’t see him that way apparently, which was annoying in itself.
Was he not handsome enough to make her heart race? Surely any other woman would’ve swooned over the chance to kiss him. So why wasn’t she the same?
Giving up completely, Dazai then shrugged his shoulders before the elevator dinged as the boy made his way out without a care. “Ah well, now that’s over, let’s go.”
Yet the boy got halfway across the floor before turning around in order to realize that Asagao was still standing in the elevator, her body just as stone still as before.
Well, that was weird, even for her.
Backtracking back to the place, Dazai then turned his head in confusion, “Asa-chan?”
At the sound of her name, Asa seemed to jump back to life, her speech stuttered and small with every approaching step. “O-Oh yeah, sorry. Just give me a second. My legs feel like jelly for some reason.”
Feeling himself stop right in front of her, Dazai then frowned before poking his finger straight into the forehead only for the girl to immediately collapse like a tower of cards, her legs giving out from underneath her before she giggled pathetically on the floor. “H-Ha ha sorry...I don’t know what’s gotten into me. You can just leave me here, I’ll catch up..”
The boy only watched in stunned silence though, seeing the seemingly unchanging Oda Asagao crumble to her knees by a simple fake kiss in order for his lips to twist into a smug smile.
So she does see me as a man after all.
And this time it was Dazai that crouched down to meet her, his lips letting out a small airy chuckle of pure amusement and relief before placing his hands onto his knees in reply. “Aww, Asa-chan. You’re so cute. I didn’t know you could be so flustered by me.”
Finally finding use of her muscles, Asa then frowned before covering her entire face with her hands as Dazai saw the very bright pink hue of her entire face. “I-It was just a surprise, that’s all. That and the alcohol mixed together are making me weird.”
The boy knew it was more than that though. Sure, she probably was more aware of him because of the alcohol but that blush on her cheeks was definitely because of their almost kiss. Ah, Asa-chan was always amusing him in the best ways.
He couldn’t get sick of this even if he tried.
Because of that, Dazai only rolled his eyes, not taking her words at face value before reaching his arms forward in order to hook them under her armpits. “Sure sure, whatever you wanna call it. Now come on, up you go!”
Lifting his arms up, Asagao’s body then followed him, hosting her upwards until she was back on her feet before she stumbled into his chest. Wow, he really did a number on her, didn’t he? Poor princess couldn’t pull herself together,
Dazai laughed in response, placing his hand to the back of her head in order to ground her to reality “So needy, love.”
The girl only shook her head though, muttering a reply into his jacket. “Smmorry..”
The words were muttered but he knew she was apologizing in some sort of way. Ah, damn it. Just when he thought Oda’s sister couldn’t get any more adorable she surpassed it.
Thinking about his spontaneous kiss, Dazai felt his own eyes lower. This was kind of his fault in the first place. He didn’t give her any warning about what he was going to do. And though it was obvious that Asa didn’t hate his plan, she was certainly stunned by it.
And normally his response would’ve been to step back and let her fall on her face but after their night at Bar Lupin and the blind words of faith he uttered about him, Dazai tried something different.
This was his fault after all. “Ah well, I guess I’ll take responsibility this once.”
Then the boy simply reached down before hoisting Asa up by her legs in order to push her over his shoulder, much to her surprise. “O-Osamu, what are you..”
Dazai only cut her off though, voice smug. “Not another word, love or I’ll drop you.”
That seemed to be enough to get her to pause before Dazai simply walked around the corner and opened the door to his apartment, not even bothering to flick on the light and throw the poor red haired girl face first onto the sofa and rid himself of the overly out of character act.
Asagao only groaned at the impact though, feeling the soft cotton assault her face.
Yet that’s when his phone started to sound inside his pocket only for the boy to pull the object and read the text with a frown as Asa looked up from the cushions. “Who is that?”
Sighing heavily, Dazai then shoved the object back in his jacket before replying shortly. “Mori. He probably wants to know why I missed the scheduled raid today.”
At that, Asagao turned her head, anxiety in her eyes as she tried to process the sentence in her drunken brain. “What? Why did you miss it? Oh no, it’s not because I fell asleep on you, right? I told you you should’ve pushed me off. I didn’t wanna get you in trouble with your boss.”
Dazai only shook his head though, unbothered by her stress. “Relax, love. I skip boring things all the time. Besides, it was worth it to hear the anger in my dog's voice! You did me a favor.”
He then chuckled to himself, still pleased with the trouble he caused Chuuya only for Asa to speak out of his psychotic glee. “You should go smooth things out then.”
Frowning at her words, Dazai then leaned forward in order to teasingly run a couple fingers through her messy crimson locks. “And leave my favorite girl all alone on our first night together?”
Asagao only shook her head though. “I don’t wanna keep you from your job. Plus it would be bad if they came looking for you, right? I’m not supposed to be here.”
She was making him see logic, something that Dazai didn’t really want to face. The last thing he wanted to do was go see Mori and listen to his old man nagging, but she was right. If he didn’t show up then the boss would probably come to him, and that’s what he was trying to avoid.
Looks like he had no choice. Just great.
Humming in distaste for the truth, Dazai then leaned forward, his voice slightly threatening and low. “Then will you promise me you’ll be a good girl and wait for me here?”
Asa didn’t seem shaken at all, her eyes playing in confusion under her large framed glasses. “What do you think I’m gonna do?”
At that, Dazai couldn’t help but smile, telling her the absolute and honest truth. “I don’t know, and that’s the best thing about you, Asa-chan. I can’t predict you. You’re an enigma in the most interesting ways.”
And she was, she really was. To Dazai, Oda’s sister was the most unpredictable force he had ever met. Sure, there were moments he could guess, there were circumstances where he could control her in the way he wanted, but there were others that left him completely and utterly speechless.
When she said that he was a good man, when she called him precious, when she confessed that she would’ve joined the port mafia for him, they played on a strange complicated repeat inside his brain, the boy still unable to process them in any sense. She was dangerous in all the best and worst ways possible.
But the most dangerous part of it all was that Asagao was completely oblivious to it all. She had no idea what kind of impact, what kind of unraveling her seemingly insignificant words had on the port mafia executive.
And to prove his point, Asagao only smiled in response, the gentle and kind nature in itself absolutely earth shattering as she hummed back. “I’ll be here to welcome you home..”
Not wanting to get uncomfortable by the proximity of her light, Dazai then quickly took a step back before immediately heading from the door before he changed his mind.
How foolish of her, the audacity to say such a thing. This place wasn’t his home.
He didn’t even have one of those.
Shaking the thought from his mind, Dazai then looked back at the unmoving girl before speaking back threateningly, knowing it wouldn’t shake her in any way. “You better keep to that, love. Breaking a promise with the devil is a fate worse than death..”
And just like that the mafioso disappeared from the apartment completely.
------
After a couple minutes, Asagao finally started to gain feeling back in her legs in order to sit up from the darkened sofa with a sigh. What was wrong with her? Why did she have to act so stupid in front of Osamu? Stupid alcohol, usually she was cooler than that.
And more she thought about it, the more she felt her hands run over her face in an embarrassingly flustered groan. Osu kept having to look after her, first with her mistake of falling asleep on his shoulder and now when he carried her because she couldn’t stand.
Just great, Asagao, you keep inconveniencing him.
And to be honest, the fact that he was still sticking around was a complete mystery to her. Usually people got sick of her by now. It was probably because of their deal, that had been the only reason he was tolerating her this much.
So much so, Asagao wanted to do something for him. Either for an apology or in some sort of appreciation for him showing her that wonderful bar and dealing with her this long. But what? What could make a scary mafia executive happy?
Thinking about the idea, the girl then scrambled over to the light switch on the wall in order to flick the object and be greeted by Osamu’s apartment for the first time.
Then without meaning to, Asagao’s eyes widened at the sight before her.
And even without her full vision, the girl could feel the cold and empty nature of his place, like no one had ever actually occupied it. The walls were bare simple white, each room massive and yet just as lonely as the last.
Sure, in theory this place was a dream, a playboy's penthouse, an expensive luxury, dripping with rare future/views of Yokohama, but in actuality it just felt like an empty shell. Did Osamu even sleep here half the time, or did he choose somewhere else?
Because to her, it seemed like the latter.
Wanting to see if she was right, Asagao then gripped the ends of her glasses before slowly taking them off only for her to quickly slap them back on with a horrified gasp. No, she was right. This place was just as sad as she thought it was.
It really was a reflection of who he was on the inside, a depressed, struggling, suicidal boy that was crying for help only to be met with ear chilling silence.
The very sight caused Asagao to dip her head before an idea flashed inside her head. What if he came home to something different this time, what if she could change this empty sad feeling into something else? Would that make him smile?
Would that give him the same happiness she felt tonight at Bar Lupin?
Quickly thinking back to conversations she overheard back home, Asa's eyes then filled with determination before moving outside of the apartment and down the elevator in order to reach the main lobby they had walked through before.
Yet her thoughts were quickly stopped when she came face to face with those very same subordinates from earlier, their eyes looking at the girl with cautious confusion as she beamed. “Oh, hello! Remember me? We’ve met before, well kinda...anyways don’t mind me! I’m just gonna..”
Although that’s when the men seemingly stepped into her path before speaking roughly. “Dazai has ordered that you go back to his apartment and wait for him to return. I suggest you listen before things get bad for you.”
He was threatening her, but Asa hardly cared, the girl was more interested in the first part of his sentence. Ah, Osamu knew she wouldn’t stay put. Smart boy. “Oh, did he? And what were his exact orders?”
The man’s voice was straightforward. “To not let you out of our sight.”
Humming in response, Asa then rocked her back on her heels before answering sweetly.  “And if I don’t listen?”
At that, she watched the port mafia men take another step closer to her, something that didn’t cause her to shift at all. “Then tonight will be the last night you’re alive..”
His fingers then brushed towards the gun on his side as Asagao resisted the urge to snort at his piss poor attempt of a threat. How unoriginal. “And how would your executive feel about you ending the life of his girl?”
This time it was the subordinates turn to laugh, their voices laced with venom. “He doesn’t care about some no-named slut. You’re only here for one reason and then you will be disposed of like all the others.”
Asa only placed a finger to her lips though, thinking about the insult before answering a second later. “Right, but are you really sure about that? Because if you are wrong I can imagine the punishment from Dazai won’t be very pretty, once he finds out you killed his favorite toy after being ordered to keep an eye on me.”
And then she watched as the man’s muscles started to tense, his next steps hesitant as Asagao resisted the urge to sadistically smirk under her breath. Got him.
She hated this manipulative part of her but in situations like this it made things quite useful. Besides, these guys had it coming with that insult.
This was for Osamu after all. Because of that she knew she couldn't let these rude men get in her way.
Pushing even further, Asagao then guided her hand down towards the gun on his waist before throwing his own threat back into his face. “But if you truly think you’re right then go ahead and shoot me, mister scary subordinate. Just know you might be skinned alive for it later...”
Then she waited, she waited for her words to sink into his stupid little brain. It was foolish on his part to assume such things about Osamu after all. She knew this guy didn’t have the confidence to put a bullet in her brain without consequence.
It was a huge risk, one that very few would make.
And a moment later, she watched him cave, the subordinates' stance shrinking back only for Asagao to clap her hands in a victorious fake cutesy laughter. “Ah, I knew we could come to an understanding! Now, chop chop, I could use some extra hands for this and since you need to keep an eye on me anyways this is the perfect opportunity!”
And just like that, step one for Osamu was complete.
Don't worry Osu, I'll make you happy for sure.
----
(Like I said, this is more of a part 1 cause the next chapter connects to it. It will have a different tonal shift though and deal a lot with Dazai's character so I split it up. )
( Also don't worry, Dazai and Asa are fifteen currently in this story and though it's implied about his past with women, being in the mafia and all, I'm not gonna write any of those things cause he's a minor. Them staying the night at his place is more of a subversion type thing which will make more sense in the next chapter)
Thanks for the love on this! This is my first bsd story and you've all made me feel so welcome! It hasn't even been a month and we are almost at 500 readers on A03. I'm gonna cry. <3

Any thoughts on Beast!Dazai?
He's wrapped up like a blanket burrito with an odasakuman and warm soup in my living room.
My thoughts on Beast Dazai is he is the version that was negatively impacted by Oda's words. Now canonically we know Dazai is not particularly stable and I have already discussed at length why Oda's words were actually not that well thought out. Oda broke something in canon Dazai which made him go from a hopeful but severely depressed suicidal child to an almost hopeless martyr. But canon Dazai is the best case scenario of the words affecting him. He is trying to be better and has a support system of people who are slowly but surely undoing the damage those words have done.
Beast Dazai on the other hand is the worst case scenario of how Dazai took Oda's words. Beast Dazai is often seen as being madly in love with Oda because he "created a world for him". No, well, aside from the love part because I do think Dazai loved Oda dearly (platonic, one sided and romantic whatever) Dazai did not go through so many universes to save Oda. He went through so many realities to save everyone including Oda. Because Dazai did not believe he deserved to live if Oda dies because he believes that Oda is better and more deserving.
Beast Dazai, under the worst possible interpretation of Oda's words decides to actively ruin so many lives and hurt so many people because the end justifies the means, he ensures that he is isolated and despised by every single person but keeps Chuuya around cause he needs to survive till his plan is complete. He tries to ensure that his death would be a relief to people so that it doesn't inconvenience anyone.
And the tragedy of beast Dazai is that when all of this is said and done, he genuinely believes Oda would understand him and his perspective. He thinks Oda would approve of him to a certain degree. Look, I did what you wanted me to, I saved everyone. Isnt this what you wanted? Did i do good?
But he is saying this to a man who is not his Oda, this man is a proactive, good guy who has never known a Dazai, never projected on him or indulged him. This Oda sees Dazai as a bad person who has done nothing but hurt people Oda cares about.
And that is when Dazai breaks completely. Its the point at which Dazai is forced to confront the fact that the Oda in his head is the idealized version of him, its the ultimate blow confirming that anything he wants in life will be ripped away from him.
In the end Dazai dies believing that nobody would be affected by his death negatively because he made everyone miserable. However, it was all for nothing because his death did affect one person negatively: Chuuya. He had completely isolated the guy leading him to develop a seriously toxic codependency on Dazai. And in trying so desperately to save this world where everyone but he survives he has sort of made his own villain in Chuuya who is trying to destroy the agency for causing Dazai's death.

FINALLY MY PEOPLE ARE HERE 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
I shan't say I hate Dazai, he's my pookie bear (in the way I love maggots, u know?). But tiktok genuinely kills me because they cannot FATHOM the idea that any of their favs are flawed people.
People go on and on about him slapping Atsushi during his panic attack during season 3 (?) which is not only understandable, though not acceptable, but also forgiven. Dazai is a flawed person, but so is every other member of the cast. Nobody in that show is a good person.
Media literacy death is making sure people cannot grasp moral grayness. Dazai is an 'ends justify the means' type of person, he's not a good person by any stretch of the word. He is cruel to his allies, cruel to himself as well. People think Chuuya would be a better mentor, but it's difficult to quantify 'better'. Knowing the actual author helps you understand Dazai's character. Without being able to consider how Dazai's cruelty differs from, say Yosono, you can't grasp a character. How is Dazai's mistreatment of Akutagawa different from Yosono's treatment of the soldiers. His willingness? His apathy? His violence? His age, maybe? Where does the victim end and the perpetrator begin?
People have some vision of Dazai being some monster, but he's just human. Denying his humanity brings to life his ability. Isn't his humanity what makes his actions reprehensible? How do you deny his humanity in the face of his cruelty when his humanity is exactly why he is cruel.
Signed,
meemoo 👍
Hello op!! Welcome to my blog, generally for Dazai haters, but people who like him while acknowledging his bullshit are so welcomed!
Yeah, tiktok takes are braindead. They're so dumb it actually makes my head hurt. Take them with a grain of salt.
Him slapping Atsushi is honestly not as bad of a moment as people make it to be? That slap was obviously not meant to *hurt* Atsushi, it was not done in anger or carelessly – Atsushi was having a panic attack, worse than his usual crying moments, and Dazai snapped him out of it. It was a moment Dazai used to teach him, make a point go across for his own good, the same way Fukuzawa slapped Ranpo in season 4. To me at least, neither slap held malice.
Dazai is a flawed person, and so is most of the cast – that is true op. And the pondering on why his cruelty is more easily condemned than others' piqued my interest. I did some thinking.
It is late at night right now, so I can't go in an in depth analysis, but I will say this: You are right in saying that he's just a human, and it is his humanity that makes his actions reprehensible. Let's take, for example, his treatment of Akutagawa, which would show exactly why I hate Dazai's actions more than others' in the show.
Dazai's cruelty is planned. It does not come from any sort of boyish innocence or environmental bias. Dazai is intelligent - more than even your average genius – and as a Mafia executive, intimately aware of violence. He himself said that he doesn't like pain, yet he continuously inflicted it. Anybody catch that small sentence Q said as they were on the train? "You hurt me, so now I'll take revenge," or something like that. We kinda glossed over it, didn't we? Nobody seems to remember that.
He was shown kindness by Oda - he knew how it was like to be an orphan and alone, to be found by an older mentor who cared for him, was by his side when he was lost in the dark. Even with this knowledge, when Dazai himself was faced with a lost 14 year old boy who had no reason to live, he took him in for selfish purposes (as he admitted himself). Dazai had encountered kindness, but chose to use Akutagawa for his plans. Even later, when he promises Oda to "save the orphans," he abandons the siblings he himself introduced to the Mafia. Easier to save orphans who don't know what a dangerous criminal you were, right? Then, he continues to abuse the emotional attachment he cultivated in Akutagawa for his own ends, many times, thus endangering Akutagawa's life. Correction actually: sacrificing Akutagawa's life.
That's why I, personally, fnd Dazai's cruelty worse. He is deliberately cruel when it fits his plans. Other mafia members - Chuuya, Kouyou, Akutagawa – they're not like that. They fight, and they use violence, but they do so in accordance to their job. They don't control people, they don't use people and discard them like pawns.
Mori might, but are we really using him for comparison value?

Hello this is my main for @/dazai-on-my-mind I was going through your abuse post (have yet to finish it so forgive me if you've discussed this already) what are your theories for what lies under Dazai's bandages? The main fan theories that I've seen so far is that they're either covering self inflicted injuries or Mori experimented on Dazai at times during his Port Mafia days but again coming from your abuse post this theory seems highly unlikely. So I was wondering if you had any thoughts about that.
Hello! Sorry this took a bit. I saw your other ask, so I'll try to get to that. It's absolutely fine you haven't finished it. I'm personally surprised at how long it is myself. I actually haven't talked about what is under Dazai’s bandages, so sure! I also have some brief thoughts on the bandages itself.
(Edit: that was not brief, it turns out I had a lot of thoughts)
It's an average topic with this fandom, so I don't know how much I can add really!
We do know he has scars from what Oda said in Dark Era:
Tumblr media
And we also get this tidbit from Harukawa talking about designing Dazai:
The special thing about this series was that apart from the settings from Asagiri, the characters probably should have certain aspects of the authors they were based on, but I tried to draw them based on the character settings first when doing up the initial drafts. […] For Dazai, I wrapped him up in bandages because of his suicide mania, and took note with other items.
—Harukawa35, Behind The Scenes of The Character Design!
Of course, the intent behind what the bandages are and what is behind them can change over time when they get to know their own characters better! They look like they're implying two different things, but I'd argue it's the exact same thing, even if they come from different places.
Out of all the assumptions, what's under there is probably scars he gained while throwing his life away in the face of danger, even when he doesn't need to. It's no different than the average suicide attempt by him. I wonder if he has a scar from the Old Boss’s scythe, that'd be sick. This is what sounds most likely to me, but I’ll entertain other ideas for the sake of it being too short of a note to end on.
You can obviously tell I don’t dig the idea of Mori committing medical malpractice. Not only is that an insane idea to come by, how does he even benefit from that thought process? The only type of stuff happening is Mori forcing him to take his vaccinations and taking drugs Dazai got from his medicine cabinet out of his young hands. I also think people think this way because of what he said about Mori telling him the shots won't hurt in The Day I Picked Up Dazai Side A.
A doctor is telling a child his shots won't hurt… ??? Sounds pretty normal.
I know people won't like it when I say this, but that was typical teenage Dazai childishness. He does genuinely not like pain of course, so it could be that he's overexaggerating because that's what it felt like to him haha. That scene is meant to be comedic, so this sentiment shouldn't be that serious in context. It's not like this is idk Black Butler.
I remember in Side B that Dazai says pain is what reminds you that you're alive. Maybe that's why he doesn't like it, even if he was a torture specialist. To understand death, you have to understand what it is to be alive because life is both of those things. Dazai prefers the state of being dead rather than the process, but also thinks the attempt is easier than actually committing. Dear god, your commitment issues don't need to go this far.
As for self-harm, it's pretty 50/50 with enough arguments on both sides to make a case. Dazai doesn’t like pain, but people don't usually do it because they like the feeling of the pain itself. They could do it to punish themselves, the feeling of it afterward, etc. I think Dazai putting himself in those situations like I mentioned earlier counts enough as self-harm (you can even count his implicit drinking habits too if you'd like), but this specifically on what I know you mean just depends on whether you think Dazai would do so.
I can't imagine it from Dazai, but if people think so, there's nothing stopping them from it. There's nothing implying he wouldn't, suicidal people don't always resort to this. I’m personally just tired of people using it for their whump narratives, in all fandoms actually.
I don’t care much for it if that’s what they’d like to do because I understand, but it’s not something I like being depicted in weirdly graphic detail for no reason other than the character to suffer. Besides that, there no harm in it. I don’t want to get all “you shouldn’t write this stuff because I said so”, that’s stupid.
(-150 points if it’s for white knighting ship content)
Now I hope you don’t mind me rambling off a bit! It’s been on my mind since last week to talk about the bandages.
Symbolically, the bandages can mean a couple things. All very similar things haha. It’s like what Chuuya’s gloves are to him and how personal it is to take them off outside of Corruption, or how he said he used to put his hands in his pockets because he wanted to protect his humanity while fighting.
Core things they can mean are:
A thin barrier to separate and hide himself from others (including from himself)
To minimize skin contact from his ability aka himself (not as literal as it sounds)
Abilities in Bungou Stray Dogs are apart of the user. No matter if you move your ability on to your child (Kyouka and her Mother), have it be mutilated into something unrecognizable (Verlaine, Chuuya), or to naturally be imbedded into you, you cannot separate it from your humanity. It’s still you, as Atsushi had to eventually accept this fact.
You can say a lot about the nature of abilities and 55 Minutes made some worrying discussion points about Abilities that I wish were touched on more by others, but let’s go with first thought process because it’s the one Asagiri let’s us off easy with.
No Longer Human, as Asagiri told us, is based off of the feeling he got when reading Dazai Osamu’s writing. Functionally, his ability is a bit horrifying to me as something born from himself. Maybe I just overreact, but when you translate what his ability mean functionally against every ability user we know, you can come up with interesting conclusions.
It’s not like how Atsushi can cut through abilities as a Tiger as I’m sure that was meant to imply something about his psychological breakthrough and combating other’s soul born abilities with his own. Dazai just straight up takes away other’s abilities. As long as he’s touching you, you have become a victim to his soul’s vacuum of searching for humanity or lack there of.
That’s not to say others who don’t have abilities aren’t human, I think the difference is that ability users are forced to put a part of their humanity up for show and scrutiny, which makes them appear inhuman to the average human being. Dazai is as paradoxical as his own ability. He’s functionally the average human being, but he also lacks something… human when you put him up against another ability user.
Sorta this middle ground in what to think and how he also tends to be. When I read No Longer Human, it popped out to me too often that Yozo Oba was incredibly human while putting himself in this position of inhumanity.
When Dazai’s ability is in effect, he takes away a piece of your humanity, making your less than who you were before. So when Dazai covers skin with his bandages, he’s covering up the metaphorical cavity that is his ability and inhumanity. When the bandages starts going everything when he’s using his ability, he’s swallowing that piece whole and embracing you falling to his level.
Am I overanalyzing a stylistic choice that usually only appears in official art? Yes, but it’s fun.
You can tell I skipped the first one, but that’s because it has to do with an example that’s been the reason I keep thinking about this and it sounded more fun to talk about. In the Onsen CD Drama, there’s two scenes I want to put emphasis one.
The first one being when Dazai says that they’re all getting closer because of them being in the hot spring, but Kunikida calls out the fact he’s still wearing his bandages. I could’ve passed it off as being not that significant because it’s a joke scene if it weren’t for the next one.
Atsushi wanted to wash Dazai’s back since Kunikida had been occupied and he wanted to help them like they did for him, but Dazai had already walked away. Later when they’re still awake while the others had slept, Atsushi tries again and actually gets the opportunity to do it. Only problem, Dazai still has his bandages on. Dazai just tells him it’s okay and to scrub anyway.
This made me feel… how do I say this… speechless? Not because Dazai was entirely insistent on them being apart of his body like the troll he is, but because of the simultaneous intimacy of the act and abruption of it with the bandages. You can pass it off as a running joke, but we both know Dazai absolutely heard Atsushi thank him and avoided that confrontation by playing it off as being sleepy.
I’ve said this a couple times to people I’ve talked to before, but Dazai is the type of guy who you would talk to every day, invite you everywhere, and always go out with a lot of people, but if you were to be asked what you personally know about him, you’d be able to say nothing but surface level stuff everyone knows.
With anyone and everyone, there’s always this level of personal separation between them and Dazai, and they know it. Even if you are closer to him like Oda and Chuuya are and Dazai had willing shared stuff usually wouldn’t (mind you, it took Mimic for Dazai to share more about himself to Oda and Ango), he doesn’t let himself be that vulnerable or let himself go.
I’m arguing that the bandage are a more literal barrier between him and the world. Either to protect himself or to protect others from what they’ll realize about him. He hides himself because of what he is…or something like that at least, I don’t know what goes though his head. Im still trying to figure out his perception on things thoroughly and if he really cares about it.
The eye bandage has been talked to death by now. Yes yes, Dazai left his eye covered for depth perception in the dark and Oda uncovering it for him to see the light as well. We all know it. Still, I think it’s quite meaningful that when he’s finally having an heart-to-heart with Odasaku, he’s the one to open up that bandage. It doesn’t fix everything, but he’s been opened up to that possibility.
For Beast, Dazai having a bandage on the other eye can be seen as a misguided attempt of seeing everything with Oda in mind by seeing it all in the eye he uncovered, but still needing to cover the other to guide himself in the dark. He’s also a mirror image of the original Dazai if you’d like to see it like that.
In Side B, Dazai covers his whole face up. Ironically, while I called the bandages on his body a cover up for his inhumanity, the face bandages cover up his emotions, suppressant of himself. Dazai is not typically that emotional, but Side B Dazai is going through a lot when it comes to Odasaku… so while he’s covering his face to hide it from Oda, he is also hiding the overwhelming feelings he has.
In the ending of Side B where he takes off the dirty bandages, he’s so wracked with emotion he almost fails himself in his plans, and presumably forces himself to cover up his one eye again. When he falls to his death in the ending of Beast, bandages fall when he’s able to let himself go.
In the manga, Hoshikawa was evil and drew the bandages falling into Oda’s hands. Let’s say… they’re a symbol of his protect of Oda and remembrance of the scene where Oda pulls them off. You can even say they where still taken off with Oda’s influence!
OKAY ENOUGH, I’m talking you ears off. It seems I like the sound of my own voice and wanted to share as much as I could.

( and maybe give akutgawa so comfort your choice) and yeha that’s all just a req don’t mind me-!❤️
scarlet witch! baby fushiguro! reader finds out about dazai's past
jujutsu kaisen x reader x bungou stray dogs
masterlist of the series
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
╰➤ CW(s): major spoilers for bungou stray dogs (dark era), multiverse of madness is referenced, major themes of angst, mentions of abuse (dazai to akutagawa), no comfort(?)
╰➤ PAIRING(s): platonic! bungou stray dogs x child! reader (dazai osamu, akutagawa ryunosuke, oda sakunosuke, etc.)
i changed the scenario and made it extra angsty for tears!
Tumblr media
you never fully comprehended why akutagawa despised you. every time you went to port mafia, mostly to see chuuya and play with elise-chan, he wouldn't say anything and would just gently yank you away with rashomon, even if you hugged and clung to him, his thoughts, which you could read and hear, were filled with nothing but resentment towards you, which was sad, but you were also perplexed because you liked him.
so, why did he hate you?
you learned to ignore it, but eventually you couldn't. you liked akutagawa and adored him so much that you didn't want him to hate you or think poorly of you, so you approached him as usual, much to akutagawa's surprise, but you weren't clinging to him.
"...what do you want?" akutagawa's eyes narrowed as he cleared his throat, watching you shift and fidget quietly.
"why do you hate me?" you asked, almost nervously gulping as you fiddled with your fingers, your gaze fixed on your feet, as if you'd been reprimanded for doing something wrong.
"you're annoying, and i don't like brats like you..." akutagawa scoffed, averting his gaze away from you and folding his arms across his chest.
i don't even get what dazai-san sees in you.
when you heard what akutagawa was thinking, you looked up, your eyes widening. your surprised expression drew his attention back to you, and he blinked.
"what?" akutagawa asked gruffly.
"what dazai-nii sees in me?" you blurted out, your face turning from comfort to confusion. at that moment, akutagawa's eyes widened slightly, clearly puzzled. you just read his mind.
"tch, get out of my head, brat!" akutagawa snapped, his rashomon immediately acting up, black tendrils now in mid-air, ready to strike you, but you took a step back and raised both of your hands in the air.
"i-i'm sorry! i didn't mean to!" you apologized, "i just couldn't help but hear it, and i just wanted to understand you.."
"understand me? how could a brat like you understand anything?!" akutagawa's enraged voice echoed across the walls, sending shivers down your spine. "tch, if it's not that weretiger, it's you! it just had to be some kid like you. you're not even that special!"
as one of rashomon's tendrils darted towards you, you instinctively raised your hand, which was imbued with pure red psionics from your chaos magic.
despite the fact that you blocked it, the physical contact you made with akutagawa's ability, as well as the way your overwhelming emotions were amplifying your abilities, had activated your mind-reading ability as a witch once more, but this time it went deeper.
even though it was only a few seconds in real time, your chaos magic made you feel as if you were inside akutagawa's past, reliving the dark memory.
there you saw dazai, but he was younger, about your older brother's age, megumi, and instead of brighter clothes, he was dressed in a black coat with a white button-up and a black tie, and bandages covered his eye, not just his arms and neck, and something about this dazai in akutagawa's mind was just unsettling.
the scene that followed, on the other hand, terrified you. you stood there in the dark, completely frozen, watching dazai hit akutagawa with his bare fist, and to take aim with a gun and fire at akutagawa.
akutagawa would have been shot dead if it hadn't been for his rashomon protecting him.
you quickly returned to reality, not wanting to see any more scenes of dazai behaving in such a way toward akutagawa. as rashomon retreated back to akutagawa, you took a step back, lowering your hand, your hands and knees felt clammy as you looked up to akutagawa, who was confused, and perhaps a little concerned this time, as to why your gaze was teary-eyed, on the verge of crying.
shit. mentally, akutagawa cursed himself. he really didn't mean to snap at you like that, nor did he mean to make you cry.
"h-how could he do that to you?" as you fought back tears, your lips trembled. everything now makes perfect sense, "how could dazai-nii do that to you? y-you didn't deserve that.."
akutagawa bit the inside of his cheek with his lips pursed into a thin line. how unusual of you. he honestly expected you to be angry or upset with him for threatening you, but instead you're crying because of how your precious dazai-nii used to treat him in the past.
"i don't need your sympathy," akutagawa exhaled sharply, his eyes narrowing slightly as he looked at you, "so stop crying for nothing..."
"but you didn't deserve any of that.." your lips trembled as you fought back the tears welling in your eyes with all your strength, not wanting to cry, "you're already more than enough, aku-nii.."
"i-i said i don't need your sympathy, so shut up," akutagawa resisted, but couldn't help but bite back harshly in response to you, "a-and don't call me that! i'm not your damn older brother!"
you didn't say anything else, but instead ran up to him and hugged him, much to akutagawa's dismay and possibly embarrassment, tiny arms wrapping tightly around his waist as you buried your face onto his stomach.
your embrace wasn't the typical clingy kind; it was genuine—truly meant to comfort.
akutagawa looked down at you, trying to think of something to say, but all he could do was stare with his mouth agape, and he couldn't even get rashomon to threaten you again this time.
he sighed deeply and picked you up, letting you cling to him with your tiny arms around his neck and awkwardly rubbed shapes on your back in an attempt to calm you down as you silently cried, unable to hold back your tears any longer.
your words of sympathy and sincerity felt so foreign to him because he was so used to hearing dazai's words and receiving his harsh treatment, but in all honesty, it wasn't bad getting something like this once in a while.
you started avoiding dazai after learning how he used to be. you would rather go to port mafia than the armed detective agency, which surprised mori, but he was ecstatic because it meant that his chances of stealing you from the armed detective agency and using you for your scarlet witch abilities had increased.
but you couldn't get rid of the memories you saw in akutagawa's head. of course, you were aware that he was a former port mafia member. you learned that from oda sakunosuke's ghost before he passed away, but you just didn't think dazai was that kind of person.
you couldn't recognize him, and you couldn't help but wonder how that port mafia dazai was the same dazai you were with. was it only a matter of time before dazai hurt you as he did akutagawa? or is it just because you're the scarlet witch that he doesn't hurt you?
it scared you while also making you angry.
wasn't he supposed to be like your adoptive father, gojo?
perhaps the answer to your question was simply that you overlooked the fact that dazai was never a good person to begin with, which made everything at odds with your heart and mind, a difficult pill to swallow.
atsushi noticed you while he was with kunikida and dazai, you were out in public with chuuya, who had been granted permission by mori to take the day off and spend time with you.
"isn't that [name]-chan..?" when atsushi pointed at you, dazai's face lit up.
dazai had been moping for a few days because you hadn't visited any of them, let alone him. so, when he saw you, he couldn't help but run towards you, only to come to a halt when he realized you were with chuuya.
"[name]-chan! what are you doing with this... shrimp?" dazai exclaimed, narrowing his eyes slightly the presence of the mafioso, prompting the two of you to turn around and see him, as well as atsushi and kunikida.
"the hell you starting vagabond?!" a nerve protuded on chuuya's temple at dazai's remark.
"tch, nevermind you shrimp, i'm not here for you," dazai dismissed chuuya, turning to you, opening his arms and smiling, "[name]-chan! i've been looking for you! ugh, to think you were with this shrimp here!"
instead of running up to dazai for a hug, you ran towards kunikida, clinging to his pant leg, who, along with atsushi and chuuya, let out a baffled noise, as a flash of dazai from akutagawa's memory appeared before your eyes, and it scared you.
"[name]-chan?!" dazai exclaimed softly in betrayal, staring at you in complete perplexity.
"looks like [name] had finally grown tired of you," chuuya chuckled softly, biting back a grin.
"shut up! [name]-chan would never!" scoffed dazai before returning your gaze with a smile.
"w-why is she clinging to me?" kunikida looked down at you, puzzled, his body stiff and frozen from the way you were holding onto him. you've never clung to him like this before. kunikida could almost feel you trembling.
it's as if you were scared of something, and it is.
"what's wrong?" he asked, placing a hand on the top of your head, "y-you're trembling, kid.."
"she's trembling?" dazai, chuuya and atsushi chorused in unison.
"oi, kid, why didn't you tell me you were freezing this whole time?" chuuya began as he slipped off his cropped jacket to give to you when dazai darted towards you, already holding his brown coat to wrap you in, "AGH! BASTARD!"
"here, bella~ you can have my coat instead of chuuya's!" dazai exclaimed with a toothy grin.
you quickly released kunikida's pant leg before dazai could approach you with his coat. your [color] eyes glowed red as you expelled a small repulsive force of your red psionics, causing them to jump in surprise.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" you cried out.
chuuya, dazai, kunikida, and atsushi, as well as passers-by, gave you incredulous looks, "[name]-chan?" "kid?"
"[name]-chan, what's wrong?" dazai looked at you with concern, cautiously approaching you as if he were a scared stray cat or dog.
your lips trembled for a moment before you yelled again, breaking down in tears as you clenched your fists tightly, "I HATE YOU!"
dazai trembled the moment he heard those words leave your mouth, and the way you looked at him, those glowing red eyes that were usually filled with warmth and joy whenever you saw him, struck him hard. you ran as his eyes widened and his body froze like a statue from shock.
"[name]-chan! watch out!" atsushi yelled, nearly dying from stress after nearly being hit by a car only for your red psionics to push it out of your way, "wait up! [name]-chan!"
"what the fuck did you do to the kid?" chuuya asked angrily, now grabbing the collar of his shirt, "what was that, huh?!"
"i don't know.." dazai replied in a small murmur, his eyes bearing a genuine frown, prompting chuuya to release his collar.
it didn't take long for them to start chasing after you, and it was a wild ride. they instantly lost sight of you. it was difficult because your chaos magic allowed you to reappear and appear.
fortunately, with wits to rival ranpo's, dazai was quick to find you, and much to his surprise, and as heartbreaking as the sight was, he discovered you in odasaku's grave. you were curled up against the gravestone, your knees tucked in between your arms, crying silently beneath the shade of the tree.
"[name]-chan!" dazai exclaimed, relieved to see you well but heartbroken to see you crying in such a place.
when you heard his voice, you instantly flinched. you got back up on your feet and prepared to run off again.
"hey now, don't go. why are you acting this way?" dazai stepped in front of you, blocking your path, "[name]-chan, what's wrong?"
"i hate you! get away from me!" you cried out.
"[name]..? what are you saying? why—" dazai was immediately cut off by your next words.
"you're a bad person! you hurt aku-nii! you're nothing like my daddy at all! he would never hurt anyone, but you.. you did."
what did you just say?
how did you know that?
dazai found himself subconsciously clenching his fists, trembling fists. he made certain that he never told you anything about it unless, but knowing the kid, akutagawa's not the type to tell, so dazai was quick to deduce that you read akutagawa's memories with your chaos magic, and it only makes sense as to why you were with chuuya, and staying away from the armed detective agency, away from him.
dazai approached you again to get you, and this time he wasn't even cautious. please, he can't let you go, "[name]-chan, stop that.."
"no! no!" you resisted, shaking your head and swatting away his hands when they got too close, "i'm not going with you! stay away!"
"[name], listen to me. i'm not going to hurt you. let's talk about it. come on, now," his patience was wearing thin as you continued to pry away from him, constantly swatting him away, but you slapping his hands was the final straw.
"[NAME], I TOLD YOU TO STOP THAT!" dazai yelled in an earsplitting volume as you slapped his hands away, causing you to flinch in fear, his large hands now tightly grasping your arms.
when dazai raised his voice at you and clenched his fists, your eyes widened, easily the tables turning on you. there it was. the dazai you've been fearing and seeing from akutagawa's memory of the past. a horrible shiver ran down your spine as you noticed an angry dark glaze over his eyes as he stared down at you.
it wasn't your dazai, it was a monster.
your lips trembled as another fresh set of hot tears filled your eyes, "p-please don't hurt me.."
fortunately, the look and sound of fear you made as you trembled in his grip seemed to have brought him back to reality.
when his grip on you loosened and you pressed your back against oda's gravestone with tears streaming down your cheeks, dazai immediately shook his head, his frightening mafia black blood charsima dissipating.
"..[name]-chan, i'm so sorry.. hey, now," dazai exclaimed sharply, realizing what he had done, "i would never hurt you.. you know that, right?"
"because i'm not aku-nii?" you asked in a sniffle.
dazai swallowed the lump that had formed on his throat. unfortunately, he had no answer to that question. slowly, dazai found his knees buckling to the ground, a hand to his heart as he inhaled sharply. you could see it in his face, and you could tell his heart was breaking. he simply raised his voice at you and almost hurt you, the last person he wanted to hurt.
who was he kidding? mori was right. the port mafia were right. his blood will forever be mafia-black. it runs in his veins. even if dazai had wiped his past clean somehow, the fact that it still happened meant that it was still there, and that it would always find a way back to haunt him in some way.
he will never outrun karma.
it's not you, who didn't deserve dazai.
it was him, who didn't deserve you at all.
dazai returned his gaze to you, a single tear rolling down his cheek and falling to the floor, only to see you open a red portal to leave and return to your world, and he could only think of one possibility: that this might be the last time he ever sees the little belladonna he adored.
"[name]-chan, please come back.. i'm sorry.."

hi!!! omg since ur taking suggestions maybe like a road trip sickfic idea with the dazai oda ango pm trio?
absolutely anon!!! i haven't written the dark era trio yet so i struggled a bit but i hope this is ok!!!! oda is actually really fun to write im in his brain. also this is like towards the end of dark era not that it matters much
ginger tea // oda & dazai & ango
ao3
"I don't even understand why you needed to come so badly. I'm sure both of you have been to Takasaki before," Ango grumbles as he starts his car.
"I haven't!" Dazai exclaims.
"I haven't either, actually," Oda answers.
"Well, a work visit is a weird reason to go. I can't stay long, either, I have to be back for work in Yokohama tomorrow," Ango informs the two of them. "As do the two of you, I'm sure."
Oda isn't entirely sure how he got roped into this. Ango mentioned this trip the night before during their usual meetings at Lupin, and for some reason, Dazai decided this was going to be a road trip between the three of them, and insisted Oda come along as well.
Oda doesn't mind, not really, as long as he doesn't get a call to work.
"Doesn't our resident executive have better things to do? Didn't your subordinate get arrested yesterday?" Ango asks as they enter the highway in a rather accusatory tone.
Dazai groans and throws his head back against the headrest. He's taken the backseat to himself, offering the passenger seat to Oda. He said something about how he’s never gotten to sit in the back of a car before. He’s strange. "That took up my whole day. Huge pain. No thanks to someone for not helping me…"
"There's not much I can do on that end. His criminal counts are starting to outnumber yours," Ango tells him. Oda blinks.
"Who are we talking about?" Oda asks, turning his head.
"My dog. Akutagawa," Dazai sighs.
"He's that kid with the coat?" Oda confirms, and Dazai nods. "You talk about him like he's your reckless grandson."
"He might as well be! Not nearly as well-behaved as your orphan club, Odasaku," he whines childishly. Oda isn’t sure someone like Dazai should be in charge of a teenager.
"You need to tell me about these orphans I keep hearing about," Ango insists, and Oda realizes Ango's never met them. Now is probably a good time to tell him about them.
The car trip carries on as normally as it could, and the conversations they get into are reminiscent of the ones they would have at the bar. Stories lead into other stories and anecdotes and Oda forgets they're on a four hour car trip for most of it.
Dazai starts to go quiet as time passes, though. Oda wonders if he's tired. He didn't look tired before, but he certainly does now, at least from what Oda can tell by his partially concealed face in the rear view mirror. After a while, Oda doesn't hear him quip in at all.
"Is he asleep?" Ango asks, evidently noticing the same. Oda turns his head, and sure enough, he's out. Or at least, that's what it looks like. "Sorry he dragged you into this. I'm sure you have better things to do."
"I don't mind. It's nice," Oda says. "I never get out of Yokohama these days."
"Maybe Dazai had the right idea about us switching jobs. I'm tired of traveling," Ango complains, and Oda shrugs. There's so many things he would rather do than have Ango or Dazai's jobs. He thinks them wanting his is so silly.
Ango exits the highway and pulls into a gas station, right into one of the side spots that doesn't actually require him to get any gas. Oda is confused, because he's fairly certain they're only an hour or so into the drive.
"There's someone I have to meet here. Should only be five or ten minutes," Ango says as he puts the car in park. Mysterious as always. Oda doesn’t really want to know the kinds of things he gets up to, anyway. "I'll leave the car on."
Oda's eying the gas station with a dry mouth, thinking he'll get a bottle of water. Ango slips out of the car with a briefcase, and soon enough, he’s out of his sight completely.
Oda turns around to find Dazai looking like he’s knocked out completely, but he can't see his face very well, his head is leaned against the window. He thinks he might ask him if he would like to come, but he can't bring himself to wake someone who looks so sleep deprived all the time, so he slips out of the car without a word to him.
When he returns with three water bottles in a plastic bag, he realizes the back door of the car opposite to his view is open.
Oda was certainly not expecting this sight. He can't exactly tell from this angle, approaching the car, but he's fairly certain that Dazai's no longer inside.
Oda turns the corner of the car with a hand on the pistol under his coat just to be safe, only to realize it's not that kind of situation at all. Dazai is on his knees and leaned against the car, one arm around his middle and the other leaned into the open car for some leverage to keep himself up. Oda notices the puddle of vomit below him, and he's immediately concerned.
Oda kneels down beside him and places a hand on his back, entirely unbothered by the fact that he's throwing up. Oda is far more concerned with how shaky and pale he is.
He's not sure if Dazai is simply out of it or just thinking about his much more pressing matter, but he doesn't acknowledge Oda's presence. Oda really thought he was asleep earlier, but maybe he was just putting that on.
Dazai spits out a wad of saliva that's soon followed by a groan and another mouthful of vomit splattering into the rest of the puddle.
At that point, he seems to catch wind of Oda's presence. He groans again and spits more saliva into his vomit before he decides to favor Oda to lean against instead of the car.
"I don't feel good, Odasaku," Dazai murmurs, as if that wasn't obvious. He sounds miserable. Oda can't always tell when Dazai is messing with him, but right now, it's clear he's being honest.
"Do you get car sick? Why didn't you say anything?" Oda asks, but he realizes that Dazai was asleep most of the drive before now - or at least, he seemed to be.
"I dunno," he whines. "I usually…I'm usually fine, but, uh…ugh…"
He leans forward just a bit and gags unproductively, both arms now wrapped around his middle. He's still fairly nauseous, it seems, nauseous enough to be gagging against his will like that.
"Try to regulate your breathing some," Oda tells him, nothing how he's hearing more gags and retches than actual breathing, and it seems to work. Dazai focuses more on taking breaths than how nauseous he seems to feel, and after a while, he leans back against Oda.
"Sorry, Odasaku," he mumbles. He wipes the drool from his mouth with his sleeve and makes no effort to hide the whine from the back of his throat.
"Not a problem, Dazai. Sorry you feel like crap," he says, taking his arm to help him stand up, and he's shaky to his feet. He still looks pale and nauseated, but Oda isn't sure he has anything left in him to bring up.
He leads Dazai away from the puddle, because he's fairly certain the sight and smell of it won't help him while he's already so nauseous, so he turns the corner of the car and encourages him to lean against it. He needs some fresh air.
Dazai spits some of his saliva onto the pavement and whines again, and apparently, the nausea hasn't subsided at all. He brings a hand up to his mouth and he's still for a few seconds, but soon enough, he bends over and shifts his hand just in time for him to gag and sputter up what seems to just look like bile. Oda notices it splatter onto his shoes, but doesn't care much. He puts his hand onto the same spot on his back.
Of course, this is right when Ango reapproaches his car. Oda sees his shoes enter his vision and he looks up to see his exasperated expression.
"I leave you guys alone for five minutes," Ango mumbles, rubbing at his temple. "What happened?"
"Apparently Dazai's got pretty bad car sickness," Oda informs as Dazai brings himself back to the ground with a groan and wraps his arms around his middle. Oda's slightly concerned that it's more than that. He doesn't think he's ever seen anyone vomit that many times from motion sickness, and he has kids. And as if to prove his point, Dazai somehow manages to bring up another mouthful of bile with an unwelcome gag.
Ango sighs heavy, and Dazai somehow manages to stand himself back up by using the car for support.
"I'll take you two back to the station near here," Ango decides. "If you're that sick, there's no reason to tag along the rest of the way. And the way back."
Dazai, surprisingly, doesn't object. He's really talking a lot less than normal, and both of these things tell Oda that he really doesn't feel well at all.
"Good point," Oda agrees. He'd completely forgotten that they're not even halfway through the trip. There's no way Dazai would make it all the way there without needing to make a pitstop at a hospital for fluids.
And so they're off to the train station. Dazai looks only slightly less nauseous than before. Oda swapped places with him in hopes that it would help him to sit in the front at least for the drive over, and it seems to gave helped.
Ango lets the two of them out right outside a station that would lead them back to Yokohama, and surprisingly enough, he gets out of his car as well. Oda is sure he has a schedule to stick to, so it's nice of him to show that courtesy instead of dropping them off and zooming away.
"Feel better, Dazai. Call me if you guys need anything," Ango says, exchanging a worried glance with Oda. Of course he's concerned. Ango's tendency to mother Dazai seems to go unnoticed by himself.
They're able to catch a train the moment they make it onto the platform, and they sit together at the end of the last train car. Dazai looks better, he's not as pale, but he's sure that's only from walking around. He's not sure how he'll handle the rest of the train ride back.
Oda hands him the extra water bottle he purchased, and to his surprise, Dazai takes a few sips. They don't converse on the train out of respect to the other passengers, but thankfully, there's not many of them this time of day.
About half an hour passes of Dazai visibly trying to take intentional breaths to help aid his nausea, eyes clothes and head leaned back. Oda wonders if that's what he was doing on their car ride that appeared to simply be sleep, unnoticed by he and Ango.
Oda feels the seat buzz, evidently from Dazai's phone, just before the obnoxiously loud ringtone begins to play. So much for keeping quiet.
Dazai groans when he gets eyes on the caller ID.
"Who is it? The boss?" Oda asks quietly. Dazai, of course, doesn't bother turning down his ringer. He assumes it's someone that he's dreading speaking to.
"No. Worse," he mumbles.
He shows Oda the caller ID, which clears up absolutely nothing. It's a picture of a dog, and instead of a name, there's a dog emoji. He's pretty sure Dazai doesn't have a dog, and even if he did, he doesn't think dogs can use cell phones. But he's never had a dog, he wouldn't know.
Oh. Wait. It's his Port Mafia dog. Akutagawa.
"You answer," Dazai asks with a childish pout.
"What? Dazai, I don't -"
But, he's already answered the call and thrown the phone in Oda's hands as he fumbles to catch it. He doesn't want to talk to Dazai's scary sixteen-year-old murder machine. He's never even met him.
"Uh. H-hello," Oda answers nervously, and he's met with dead silence.
"You're not Dazai," the voice says. Oda was definitely not expecting him to sound like that. So raspy and untrusting.
"Um. I'm his assistant?" Oda decides. Dazai seems to be entertained by this conversation. The corners of his mouth start to turn up, like he's holding back a laugh.
"His assistant? Please."
Is Oda allowed to be scared? He should be. This kid is probably a billion ranks higher than Oda will ever be. He tries to think of something to say, but thankfully, the kid is straight to the point.
"Please inform Dazai the boss requests his presence at headquarters in an hour."
And he hangs up the phone.
"Aw, did he hang up? I wanted you to keep messing with him," Dazai complains.
Oda blinks. "He said -"
"I heard," Dazai assures him. His voice wobbles a bit. "We, uh…we should make it. Right?"
"I believe so," Oda answers, checking his wrist watch. He sees Dazai press a fist to his lips in his peripheral, and realizes he's missed the signs.
Dazai sucks in a breath as Oda looks over at him. He's starting to lose color in his face. "I…I think I might puke again."
Oda remembers he stuffed a plastic bag into his pocket after receiving it at that gas station mart, and he seems to hand it to Dazai just in time. He hears the splatter of vomit hit the inside of the bag followed by a painful soundinf retch, which can't be more than water and stomach acid at this point. Dazai whines.
Oda looks up to silently apologize to their fellow passengers, most of which have already resorted to pretending they aren't witnessing this, and Oda doesn't blame them. He's sure not even Dazai wants to be witnessing this, but he doesn't seem to care about the eyes on him.
"I hope you're not sick with something," Oda says, rubbing his back. He can feel him relax just a bit as he continues the circular motion.
Dazai doesn't seem to have anything to say to that, and Oda starts to suspect that maybe it's not entirely motion sickness after all, but of course, Dazai will likely not admit to it either way.
"We should've picked up some motion sickness medication for you," Oda comments as Dazai ties up the bag and sets it on the floor. He's sure he's going to need it again, they haven't been on the train for long at all.
Dazai lays his head on Oda's shoulder and sighs.
"I wanna go home," he mumbles.
"We're on the way," Oda reminds him.
Dazai whines. "No, I've gotta report to the boss."
Oda forgot about that. He wishes he had any advice for him, but in the end, he doesn't have any say in what Dazai does. If he's been asked to report to the boss, that's what he has to do.
Eventually, Dazai manages to doze off on Oda's shoulder, and he stays like that for the rest of the ride back to Yokohama.
He gently tugs on Dazai's sleeve as their train approaches the Yokohama station.
"Let's pick up some ginger ale for you from the train station," Oda suggests as they stand up. He takes Dazai's arm to help him off of the seat. He's clearly still dizzy and nauseated, and half asleep on top of that, so Oda would like to get him off of the train as soon as he can.
"Does that help?" he asks innocently. He burps into his fist and groans, but it doesn't look like he'll vomit again, thankfully.
"I think so. It's helped me," Oda says as they step onto the platform. "Unless you prefer ginger tea."
"Maybe…tea might be better," Dazai tells him.
Oda manages to find a bottled ginger tea at the station's convenience store for Dazai. He takes only a few sips of it as they walk out past the turnstiles, but he stiffens as his eyes dart up.
There's a person standing right at the outside of the station, his own eyes glued to his watch.
Oda can only assume this young man is the Akutagawa he keeps hearing about. He certainly suits the voice he's heard over the phone. He's wearing a black coat that's partially concealing his face, and small sunglasses too - but the glare he's giving Oda once he looks up is so venomous he can taste it.
It's interesting how Dazai's composure changes completely once he knows Akutagawa's eyes are on him, but he can't exactly pinpoint why. He straightens up his shoulders and his expression darkens. He walks towards him without a word to Oda.
Akutagawa recognizes that something isn't right with his superior. Oda can hardly tell, but the look in his eyes is enough to give something away. Concern, maybe. Dazai is still pale and looks completely exhausted, quite frankly.
"Dazai -"
"Quiet. Let's go," Dazai huffs. Akutagawa immediately shrinks at the command, staring as he walks past. He shoots Oda one last glare before he trails behind Dazai like a lost puppy. He's not sure if this is how he usually acts with his subordinate, or if it's a mix of how he's feeling, and being miffed about the whole getting arrested thing that supposedly went down yesterday.
Either way, Oda isn't used to him acting like that at all.
Oda can only hope that Dazai will take care of himself from this point forward without Oda guiding him, but knowing him, that won't be the case.
Before Oda gets back to work, he sends Dazai a text.
Let me know if you need anything. I'll be around.
Oda doesn't receive a reply.
