b/n : been excited for this one and wanted to get this out asap. not doing all of them. this is my interpretation of these songs and what i got from them. might not be yours and that's okay ! + unedited

HISS ((10/10))

― masterpiece from start to finish. she left EVERYTHING in this song. anything that anybody had to say she basically predicted because the response back is the song again.

in this, megan calls out multiple rappers, especially male. she calls out about how many male rappers are fein's for her body and fame. they're constantly chasing after her, and can't decide whether they wanna be her or be WITH her.

the verses she spits just keep coming in this song. it's a long ass receipt that she's been waiting to print and sign with class.

one thing i disliked was that it was heavily overshadowed by you know who.. not enough people payed attention to where the shots were directed and thrown at. drake for example.. her bbl line was a direct shot to him who can't handle rejection and who has constantly been taking low blows at meg and her body when he's been under the knife for "his".

not to mention the artistry in the music videos and the photos she'd been posting leading up to the release of this song. she aligned everything perfectly and made a snug spot for this in her discography. her references, bars, visuals, flow, foreshadowing and everything else was a masterpiece that will not be forgotten decades from now ..

RATTLE ((7.9/10))

― the instrumental in this has me imagining her walking on thin ice, confidently and not worried about breaking it because she can also walk on water. all eyes on her because they're waiting on her for ideas and what to talk about next.

this song is about people always trying to rip meg off and turn her into something she's not. she's standing up for her character and to the people who continue to try to take advantage of her ..

FIGUEROA ((7.6/10))

― catchy, rich, and classy. the meow got me. having to call out the lies and everyone who says shit about her.

WHERE THEM GIRLS AT ((7/10))

― this feels like it could be a club classic. the beat of it reminds me of songs from the early 2000's. simple and makes me wanna dance ..

BROKE HIS HEART ((8.9/10))

― she's dominating in this song. it feels like she's calling for her hottie army. + this song being just in time before pride month ends. need people to stop denying her sexuality now ..

B.A.S + KYLE RICHH ((9/10))

― right as the song starts, she jumps right in. she's not letting anyone play with her, her time, her pleasure, and body. any wrong way you treat her, she's gonna throw it right back at you .. the juxtaposition with the aggressive but soft feel of this blending together adds onto it.

she's winning the idgaf wars with this one as well. she doesn't care about how she's treating you because she deserves better anyways. this song is a shrug and her turning her back on you because you're not worthy enough

+ this SAMPLE. when it starts playing it's like the perfect after taste to an already delicious desert. i love the way the lyrics from the sample contradict with the song. sending completely different messages but still mix seamlessly. she makes the best uses of all the samples she uses. this time "out on a limb" by teena marie. an addictive listen especially when it gets to the end. a want to hear the end but not for it to finish ..

OTAKU HOT GIRL ((10/10))

― a fan favorite already, especially for megan's anime fans. can we acknowledge adam mcarthur, yuji's (jjk), english voice actor getting on this track to talk about how he likes grammy winners like megan?? with fat asses?? oh i know that's fucking right !

+ the jjk sample used in the song?? i love the eery sound and feel of the sample and how she incorporated it into the song. but WHO REALLY DOES IT LIKE MEGAN?? she searched and sought out for the puzzle pieces to perfectly connect to each other in this song. everything being smooth and blending together so effortlessly.

not to mention the japanese she was speaking, who's not bilingual? "can't touch me, like gojo" and the domain expansion line? yeah. this pulled the anime nerd out of me. her brain. also noting that megan had to keep changing the song days before her album released to appease the anime studio. give her, her flowers..

FIND OUT ((9/10))

― once again in love with the instrumentals she uses. the tingly feel the noise effects give make it yummier. not much to say about this one, need to let it marinate a bit ..

BOA ((8/10))

― artistry on ten. references on ten. looks on ten. dancing on ten. only thing is i expected more from the song. i love the use of the sample from gwen stefani's "what you waiting for".

it definitely is an experience to watch the music video. the anime, movie, video game, and tv show references she was putting out, was being picked up.

a bunch of iconic looks that have been referenced already and will continue to be. you can tell a lot of work and creativity went into this one. not to mention the creative and comedic deaths. she showed her hot girl nerd for this track !

MAMUSHI + YUKI CHIBA ((7/10))

― again w the japanese, bilingual queen. a chill song that added some more flavor to the album. they're both speaking of their luxury being celebrities and glamor of it all. yuki and megan are bonding and relating to each other over those aspects ..

WORTHY ((7/10))

― a feel good self assuring song. she speaks of how she's worthy of the love she craves and deserves nothing less than that. everyone should have this type of confidence and this should be everyone's default thought process ..

MOODY GIRL ((10/10))

― she in her feelings with this one. relatable and a song that i connect with. feeling lonely with a room full of people and like she's the only one that feels that way and the only one that sees she's not okay. she's not feeling herself, looking in the mirror and thinking things she would never usually think. also being told and feeling forced to feel some other way as if she isn't trying to feel better.

feeling like everyone is against her and no one else is trying to understand how she feels.

i love the way she talks about her mental health in her music and captures negative feelings so perfectly. these types of songs are always overlooked by her songs about her sexuality. also the people who say she only talks about being sexual and having money when these songs are sitting here, get on !

the mellow background vocals add onto the sad girl theme of the song. we FEEL the sorrow she's feeling. wanting to party away the emptiness and despair she feels, wanting to move past the feeling but just stuck on it. one of my favorites and i fear it's gonna be underrated <//3 ..

ACCENT + GLO RILLA ((8/10))

― an addictive duo that i will always come back to. the passing of the baton in this song is my favorite. catchy, flowy, and throwing shots. need a music video where they're fighting something together ..

SPIN + VICTORIA MONET ((8/10))

― a duo i wasn't expecting but goes so well together. again megan spitting fire ass verses. she’s collecting all the rnb girls. "messy, men wanna kick it like neymar let a man know i'm the goal, i don't chase y'all".. in this track they speak on people being hypnotized by them and their every move ..

DOWNSTAIRS DJ ((10/10))

― will forever love how open megan is with her sexuality. the start of this song with watery sparkly noises matches the vibe of the song. in this song she's talking about self pleasure and taking care of herself. she's not ashamed like how society wants women to feel. truly normalizing women being open. she's real as fuck, will tell you a joke but never a lie !

MIAMI BLUE + BIG K.R.I.T. BUDDAH BLESS ((7/10))

― she's always able to make the most obscure beats sound cohesive and good. what should be challenging, she achieves effortlessly. again not much to say, it's still marinating ..

COBRA ((10/10))

― one of my favorites in the album. cobra delves into the hardships megan faced and the reality of her mental health throughout these years. the many difficulties she had to face alone with an audience watching her every move wasn't an easy feat but she did it with grace, something that many admire about her. she continues to keep it real with her fans and show her scars.

the symbolism and visuals tying in together with shedding her skin and becoming a different person and moving on from that part of her life is genius. the rebirth of megan. thinking outside the box feels like the usual with megan.

+ her versatility with the beat of the music. just by how the song starts it gets you excited, not knowing what to expect until the beat drops surprising you. this song shows you a different side of megan and feels like a complete 180 compared to her other work ..

final thoughts :;

megan thee stallion's first independent album.her artistry, on a completely different level, her flow and delivery 10/10. she has such a creative mind that extends from just rap and music. it SHOWS in her visuals in her music videos. it is such a beautiful art that she continues to make and she is consistent with it. her music goes past the bounds of any rapper right now. her versatile blend of rap, instrumentals, and her niche interests.

this album also having her constantly switch up her flow and each song being their own. nobody can say anything about that ever. people who say she doesn't change her flow only listen to her surface music and don't bother to acknowledge her artistry and songs aside from her features.

also her work when it comes to sampling other songs. she completely transforms the samples she uses and makes it her own, using it as a seed for her music. doing it megan's way.

a feature i wished and was hoping for was kehlani. she would've had a perfect spot in this album and would add so much. i also wished she would have explored more with other alternative genres as well and hope she does so in the future.

i will never get tired of her referencing animes. always being discreet and behind fire and smooth bars making everything fit together. she said people hate her because she's a hot nerd and right ! will forever be obsessed w thee stallion and enamored with her work and grind. my favorite album from her now !

..You already know what I’m gonna ramble on about, right? What’s got us manga readers feeling a little bit like this? Yeah.. I have words.

Yes, I’ll be chatting about possible future spoilers, so scroll past now if you wish, but if you frequently check the usual tpn tags anywhere today (or over the next few days), I’m sure you’ve become quite familiar with this guy already, so.. here we go.

Let me start off by saying that I was beyond excited when we first found out we were getting a second season to this series. Having read the manga, I had high hopes that the anime would do so well, given the first couple arcs that follow the escape from Grace Field. From the very beginning, most of us figured it would touch upon the demon forest, the B06-32 shelter, Goldy Pond and quite possibly Cuvitidala. Of course, that was before we learned that this season had an episode count of 11 and would include some anime-only scenes, so we started to have some doubts. The new opening threw us through a loop as well, as a bunch of us speculated exactly how much this season was going to cover in terms of story and what chapter it would end off on. I was still a bit skeptical, but I put some belief in thinking we might be able to at least reach Goldy Pond. The more I thought about how many chapters this season could adapt, I remembered that Fire Force (another shonen series that has its fair share between action scenes alongside some calm, lighthearted ones) managed to fit 90 chapters into it’s first season, which was a total 24eps. I then thought it was possible for TPN’s second season to reach ch96, or maybe even ch101, since the total ep count for both s1&s2 would be 23. The upcoming arcs (GP especially) are undoubtedly more fast paced than the entire first season, which was very dialogue heavy, so naturally these action scenes would take up less time and require fewer episodes to show off. I won’t bash the second season for leaving certain scenes out and/or changing them (as the first season did this as well, albeit less noticeable), but the obvious ones come to mind. The full snakes of alvapinera scene? It was good to see the escapees overcome their first outside world obstacle on their own, sure, but overall it isn’t too important. Isabella’s scene at the gate with Grandma Sarah? Disappointing yes, but I figured they could always include that sometime later in a future episode.. at least, that’s what I’m hoping for. I can forgive the anime for those changes at the moment.. but after what episode 3 decided to pull? Oh no.. now they’ve done it!

I’m sorry.. but who exactly thought this change was a good idea? The anime-onlys must think we’re going crazy right now but c’mon, CLOVERWORKS! Are y’all for real right now?? Yeah they never even announced his voice actor beforehand like they did with Sonju & Mujika before their debut, but damn it! Also, don’t take my word for this, as I only just heard and not completely sure about the credibility, but apparently after ep4, the rest of the season will be like.. original? And I’m not sure how to feel about that if it’s true? I’ll take whatever content we get because yes, I love this series to pieces and want it to last as long as possible, but after waiting almost a full two years to see these wonderful kids animated again.. I just wanna continue on with the story we all know and love, darn it. I know Shirai is overlooking this season and giving his approval or whatever too, so that’s comforting at least.. but still, I just wish we knew this a little sooner, rather than have us find out this way by cutting out one of the most anticipated characters of this entire series! (for the time being anyways.)

Yeah we didn’t see him this episode, but he’s around.. somewhere. No one else is around to write on the walls like that, let alone get into the shelter without a pen. (i also noticed it doesn’t say “poachers” anywhere, so that’s a bit odd too..)

I just hope that whenever our man does show up, whether it be this season or not, that it follows the manga because his introduction is fantastic and his interactions with the kids are so amusing. Honestly, he’s too important to cut out entirely. The same goes for the Goldy Pond arc, which I saw some others worried about too. It’s at Goldy Pond (ch73) where Emma and another man, who we’re also anxious to meet, both find out about how to cross over to the human world via the four premium farms, the supporters, and project lambda7214.

I also saw some people concerned about Mujika’s goodbye to Emma this episode and how upon giving her the necklace, our demon friend didn’t hint at The Seven Walls at all, which is why Goldy Pond suddenly becomes that more important for us to see because it’s also there where the place is mentioned, not only by the many secret files from the pen’s cap, but from Minvera himself (ch72).

Come on now, Goldy Pond arc also does wonder for Emma’s character and appearance. It’s here where we see just how serious she is about changing the world and saving everyone she possibly can. Even if she has to fight crazy, killing poachers, she’ll do it. (also one of those poachers becomes very helpful much later in the story, so there, yet another reason we can’t skip this arc.) Though this all gets me wondering if GP will still get blown up on Jan 29th.. oh season two, you raise so many questions.

Now, could this season completely change some of those scenes even further? Of course, they’ve already done so with other bits of information. Ray figuring out the demon’s weakness in ch62 during the trip to Goldy Pond? Sonju already explained it.

The letter from Minvera that we learn about in ch56 which was originally hidden in one of the manuscripts from the shelter’s archive room? Conveniently pinned to the wall in plain sight!

I didn’t notice this when I first watched the episode but remembered just now while skimming through the manga yet again, but the episode didn’t have Gilda list off the coordinates to Goldy Pond that Minerva noted in his letter.

So how will the duo find their way there? Well, you already know.. and since GP is such an important arc, that’s another reason I believe our beloved man will show up.... eventually.

Going back to the changes now, but it’s Dominic who reveals the secret room behind the piano instead of our favorite father figure.

Although this room, which is supposed to be a full stocked armory, is completely bare..

Like.. hello? Where are all the weapons?? Are they gonna make these kids go out and raid a bunch of the other fake/dummy shelters for weapons or something? which.. actually sounds interesting and fun now that I think about it.

I also noticed that the conversation about the mass-production farms Sonju mentioned back in ch50 was also cut, but I can see the anime easily adapting it into a future episode somewhere, since said farms are mentioned again in ch56, courtesy of the shelter’s many books.

For now it just seems.. I don’t know, a bit easier? like I recently spoke about how Ray had to figure out how the pen worked in terms of coordinates and yet the anime just had the pen show a simple map, then Sonju flat out told them how to efficiently kill a demon, and the phone that allows them to contact the supporters? Oh, they found that instantly, whereas geezer had no idea such a room even existed in those 13 years he lived at the shelter..

Have I spoke too much by now? Probably. None of the changes bother me too much, aside from the geezer’s obvious absence, but I’m still looking forward to the rest of this season, as I’m sure it’ll give more spotlight to some of the other kids aside from Emma and Ray. Season one just did so well with sticking to the manga that I guess we all got caught way off guard, huh?

It was a peaceful Saturday in the dorms when you decided to visit, Sakyo was scolding the kids and Omi was cleaning the table after everyone had their lunch

Your brother was playing a game with Itaru by the couch in the lounge when Taichi suddenly exclaimed your name upon your arrival causing your brother to pause his game and turn to look at you

“Miss your big brother that much?” He smirked but you just gave him a look of disgust and rolled your eyes at him

“Why would anybody miss someone like you?” You scoffed and proceeded to give your attention to Taichi

“Is Juza here?” Your brother noticed the sudden change in your voice, from talking so venomously to him to a sweet almost candy-like tone

As if he was waiting for his name to be called, Juza finally entered the lounge where you were ans the others at

“Juza!” You waved at the older male who seemed surprised to see you on such a day but his look of surprise soon morphed into those of happiness once he sees what you had in your hand

“The bakery we often went to together had a new menu and I thought you might want to try it with me!” You beamed

Banri watched you and Juza move towards the kitchen, his eyes not missing the way Juza smiled when he stole a glance at you when you weren’t looking at him

He wanted to puke, who knew he got to see Juza giving that kind of look...especially to his sister

HIS SISTER

The way his eyes widened as he stared after you two, he didn’t know whether he wanted to laugh at your taste or give some kind of talk to Juza who was so obviously also interested in you

Excusing himself from Itaru, he followed you and Juza to the kitchen and saw you two were sitting beside each other

He wanted to get in between but he knew you would just give him that look and make him move away

So he decided to sit in front of you two, nonchalantly pointing out that you actually went out, dressed up and even got cake just for a simple visit

You didn’t miss a beat by answering him: “Juza might like it.”

He also didn’t miss the way Juza got flustered by your little comment

Now he wasn’t sure if he was proud of you for being so upfront about your feelings or make fun of Juza who was getting so flustered from something so simple

Throughout your stay in the house, Banri would follow you and Juza around, even when you tried to shoo him away to mind his own business, even using your older sister as a threat to him

He gotta admit he got scared for a moment but he’ll deal with it once she sees her

He didn’t enjoy seeing the sight of his sister giving those lovey dovey eyes to someone-especially Juza- nor did he enjoy seeing Juza giving those looks back-especially to his sister-

But for the sake of your safety, he decided to be that annoying brother and tease you or Juza every moment he can, not really about you two but your expressions or the way you talk so sweetly to Juza or how Juza tries so hard to seem soft

“Look Juza, doesn’t this picture we took together look so cute?”

“It has Hyodo, how can it?”

“I-it does.”

“God Hyodo how fuckin’ bad are you at flirting?!”

Not gonna lie, Juza wanted to actually legit fight Banri

But for your sake he won’t

“YOU PUSSY FACE ME!!!”

But Juza just ignores him and proceeds to listen to you, his whole attention focused on the words you were saying, completely unaware of how a smile was slowly growing on his face and how lovestruck he looked as you continued to ramble on

Banri wanted to puke

By the time you were about to leave, you didn’t miss the chance to jab your brother on his stomach, glaring at him and promising him that he will most certainly hear from your dear older sister

Once you were done saying goodbye to Juza and getting out of the dorms, Banri wasted no time in pulling Juza to their room. Ready to give him the talk

But he was surprised to hear Juza speaking first -albeit more quieter- and asking him if it was okay to ask you out on a date, wanting to make sure that Banri doesn’t have any problem with you going out with him

Banri hated to admit it but at that moment he felt as though Juza was a reliable man and besides, even if he said no, Banri knew that you were going to find a way to go out with Juza

So he said yes

Of course without missing the chance to remind Juza to take care of you and telling him how difficult you can be

But Juza once again said he can handle it with that look of adoration on his face

Banri, from then on, decided that if you and Juza were to hang out in the dorm again, he would be sure to stay in Itaru’s room

Hyodo Juza

Since both your brothers and cousin were in a troupe, you decided to help them out. It became a running joke in the company how the Hyodo/Sakisaka family were slowly taking over Mankai

“Oh no it is the stack of the Hyodos!”

“What is he saying?”

“I think he means attack.”

Of course, to spite your brother, Banri started to flirt with you. It wasn’t anything serious and everything was just to mess with Juza

“You look great today, I even forgot that Hyodo over there’s your big brother.” 

Juza, who was protective and always looking out for his younger family members didn’t miss the way Banri flirted with you, even going as far as talking to Banri and telling him to make sure he wasn’t playing around with you or else

But Banri ignored him and continued with his ways but somehow, for some odd reason, he found himself falling for you, someone who had Hyodo on your name and the Hyodo genes in your blood

At first he tried to stop it because how the hell did he fall for Juza’s little sister?

But still, no matter how hard he tried, his feelings won’t budge

So he decided to move according to his feelings

Instead of flirting to annoy Juza it soon to make you feel flustered, he liked seeing you all red, he never fails to point out how adorable you look all shy for him

Juza didn’t miss this, whenever he looked at you and Banri acting all close, he would feel a surge of protectiveness going through him, he didn’t know whether he should pull you away and bash Banri on the face or let you be because you look like you were having a blast

Thankfully Kumon knew exactly when to get inbetween you and Banri before anything else could happen:

“So, there’s this place I want to go with yo-”

“It’s time to go home now sis, come on!” Kumon says as he pulls you away from Banri while giving him the stinks eye

Muku was already betting on when you two were getting together but shhh he was enjoying watching the whole thing unfold

But of course, Juza might be a bit protective but your always happiness comes first

So he asked you if you had any feelings for Banri and when you responded that you indeed do, he was confused on what to do

“Hey...do you have any kind o’ feelin’s for Settsu?”

“Banri...I guess I kinda do.” You replied feeling embarrassed of admitting that to your brother but you knew him and you knew that Juza won’t do Banri any harm

He was both taken aback and torn inbetween supporting you and pulling Banri to talk to him or asking you out of everybody in the dorm why it was Banri

But it wasn’t like he didn’t trust Banri, he’s fully aware that Banri’s a good actor and knows his way with the other gender and dating but there’s still that small feeling in him that just can’t help but shield you from the possible heartbreak

So while Kumon continued to interrogate you on your way home, Juza was thinking quite deeply

Once they were back in the dorm, Juza’s eyes were instantly on Banri. Watching his every move, from when they were in rehearsals, dinner and hanging out with the others in the lounge, Juza’s eyes never left Banri

Well maybe there were times where he let his eyes rest from looking too much at Banri’s animal prints

If Banri was to be honest, he was kinda freaked out but he kinda figured out that it was going to happen since he was making moves on Juza’s little sister

Once they were in their room, Juza wasted no time on asking Banri whether he was taking you seriously or just playing around with you

For once, Banri felt quite nervous. He is talking to the older brother of the girl he’s going for

But he just answered honestly and admitted his feelings for you

That was enough for Juza to allow him

Of course, just like any older brother he told him to take care of you and never hurt you because there will be consequences

Of course Banri knows that, he lives with three of your relatives

Surprisingly, Juza’s actually very supportive of your relationship with Banri. Sometimes even giving Banri date ideas: telling him what you like and where you wanna go

He doesn’t like it when Banri scoffs at him and tells him he knows you well enough but for the sake of you having fun then he’ll endure his roommate, besides, perhaps you could be a good influence on him

So, gotta be honest... this is not a Blind reaction thing, I actually watched it in French first so I know most of the stuff already 😅 It's entertaining, it got great animation, but nothing more than that in my opinion 🤷‍♀️

Still there is stuff I liked or I want to point out, and finally I'm seeing the English version so I can actually understand what the HECK they are saying 🤩

Is it just me or it feels like the writing of this special was made by someone different from the one of season 13? Like, it's not bad, just less engaging and witty. For now. Maybe I'm being premature 🤷‍♀️

FINAL THOUGHTS

There are a few little details that bothered me a little, and it wasn't as exciting as I maybe hoped it was going to be, but it was fine. Enjoyable still. These characters make me like the show, even when it got nothing too impactful 🤷‍♀️

But I got triggered about that lightning thing with Jay 😅 I guess I'll just fanfic whatever I had in mind...

The writing was really less engaging, a little normal in a way? Idk just a feeling. Nice to see Ronin again though, I really like him. And nice to see Jay freaking out, I really like that too 😂

To be honest I wanted to put down my thoughts on this one because I REALLY wanna do the same with Nya's season 🤩🤩 I already know that Maya is gonna be there and I am so HAPPY already!!! 💙💙💙

Digimon Data Squad Dub Comparison Episode 8 - The Singer’s Secret

This is a companion to my commentary on the original Japanese Digimon Savers! Reading my commentary on the original version of this episode (which you can find here) is recommended before reading this dub comparison.

[Since several characters share the same name between the original and the dub, quotes from the dub will always be in italics, while quotes from the original will not, in order to distinguish them.]

Since the dub constantly varies which character reads out the title card for each episode, I have to side-eye the fact that it’s Marcus and not Yoshi reading out the title card for Yoshi’s episode.

Marcus: “And now it’s eatin’ time!”

I am amused by the variation on Marcus’s “it’s fightin’ time” catchphrase. Gotta find something to replace the very-Japanese itadakimasu, and this sounds less awkward than a lot of things would in a very dorkily Marcus way.

Reporter:  “We won’t name names, but only because we haven’t discovered who she is… *yet*.”

The dub appears to be leaning into the seediness of this whole gossip thing even more than the original, which I guess is fair, since it was already pretty seedy to begin with.

Megumi:  “What’s the meaning of this?”

Miki:  “How did you, the meekest of us all among DATS members…”

Megumi:  “…Manage to snag Hanamura Neon?”

Megumi: “You’re dating Neon?!”

Miki: “That ring a bell, Miss Keep-Secrets-From-Her-Friends?”

Megumi:  “We read all about it in the newspaper!”

I actually somewhat prefer Megumi and Miki’s angle in the dub. Instead of being jealous and putting her down as if she doesn’t deserve to date a celebrity because she’s too “meek” or whatever, they only appear to be upset that she didn’t tell them this because they consider themselves someone she’d share this sort of thing with. (Whether they actually are that is another matter; Yoshi never seems especially close with these two. But at least that is a less tiresomely misogynistic thing for them to be being unreasonable about.)

Megumi:  “We’ve been getting phone calls one after another since morning!”

Miki:  “We’re also getting loads of hate mail from Neon’s fans!”

Megumi:  “They’re demanding to know who Fujieda Yoshino thinks she is!”

Megumi: “We’ve been getting phone calls all morning long asking for Yoshi to give interviews!”

Miki:  “Not to mention the mail from Neon’s fans. My papercuts have papercuts!”

Megumi: “Everyone wants to know who ‘Yoshi’ is!”

Neon’s other fans are also apparently being a little more reasonable in the dub. Rather than being jealous and hateful (“who she thinks she is” very much carries connotations of them acting like she’s too ordinary to deserve to date a celebrity), they instead seem to be suddenly treating Yoshi like a celebrity as well. Even though jealousy and hate is definitely the way a fanbase would be likely to act to something like this in real life, I do not mind at all that the dub is toning this part down.

Yoshi: “…and I wore a hat. That’s a foolproof disguise!”

Apparently Yoshi subscribes to superhero universe logic if she believed that that was ever going to work. She had a hat and sunglasses; totally couldn’t have possibly been recognised.

Thomas then pulls up the photo that was taken of Yoshi after she took her hat and sunglasses off, amusingly implying that that’s the only reason she got busted and she totally would have been fine otherwise.

Thomas: “Your name, phone number, even your favourite music… Hmm, showtunes.”

Based on his tone, Thomas appears to be judging Yoshi for her taste in music, which doesn’t really seem like the kind of thing he would do. The dub just threw in that quick gag without thinking about if it fit the character.

Also, if, according to the dub, the information published about her included her phone number, why isn’t Yoshi herself the one getting all the phone calls and not her workplace? The dub does not mention her workplace being one of the details that was made public about her, so why Miki and Megumi have been swamped with letters and phone calls about this is a mystery.

Agumon:  “What’s an undercover investigation?”

Agumon: “Under what cover?”

Oh hey, dub, remember how Agumon shouldn’t know a whole bunch of human terms because he only recently came into the human world? And hey, look, you can make jokes with that, too, rather than making jokes with things that it doesn’t make any sense for Agumon to be saying!

Tohma:  “So if we carelessly break in, we’ll be kicked out before we know it.”

Thomas:  “So if we rush in, the Digimon will know that we’re after him.”

Gaomon: “And he’ll run.”

The dub actually gives a much better excuse for why the building’s hi-tech security system means they can’t just rush in: not because the security guards will kick them out, since they should be able to pull DATS authority on that, but rather because it’ll alert Keramon than they’re coming. Good job, dub, fixing a plot hole!

Unfortunately, despite the dub’s attempts to remove Miki and Megumi’s jealousy of Yoshi and turn it into them just having wanted the gossip, which I appreciated, the dub can’t really change the part where they jealously complain that they weren’t the ones to get to (fake) date Neon. Their animations for that are too extreme to really be interpreted as anything else.

Yoshino:  “Neon is my childhood friend.”

Yoshi:  “I knew Neon when we were children.”

Yoshi doesn’t mention the fact that he was specifically her friend. Their conversation later in the episode is still going to clearly establish that they were indeed on friendly terms back then, but I feel it’s a bit of a shame that their friendship isn’t something Yoshi outright mentions here. Her friendship with him is obviously quite important to her and to how she approaches investigating him; it makes sense that she’d want to bring it up.

Yoshino:  “He’s completely different than before. He was shorter than me, and he was fat. When he debuted, I didn’t recognise him at all.”

Yoshi: “He’s so different than he used to be. He was just a shy little boy back then. I would never have guessed that he’d become such a success story.”

I am very disappointed at the dub leaving out the part where he used to be fat, because that’s an important detail that makes it significantly easier to imagine that he was probably bullied back then. Yoshi doesn’t mention that she literally didn’t even recognise him as a singer, either. The dub’s take on this is focused more on his personality and less on his image.

Under normal circumstances, that shift in focus might be a good thing, but in this particular context, image is an even more relevant thing in the celebrity world than personality is. And image also tends to be more important in terms of how likely a kid is to be bullied. This is watering down the interesting parts of Neon’s character and it makes me sad.

Yoshino:  “Hitoshi!”

Yoshi: “Hi, Neon!”

Another very significant change: apparently, Neon just is his real name in the dub? Or, if it’s a stage name, Yoshi doesn’t care and is happy to call him by that rather than by whatever name she knew him by as a kid. Neon having an ordinary real name and Yoshino insisting on using it (and him not liking her doing so in public) was a neat aspect of the original that helped showcase the vast contrast between who he used to be and who he is today – again, kind of the whole point of Neon’s character – so I’m very sad that the dub loses this, too.

(The dub also hasn’t mentioned his surname and just calls him “Neon” at all times. Which really doesn’t actually matter at all, because the connotations of the surname Hanamura that I talked about in the original post would obviously be lost on a Western audience (unless they changed his surname to a Western one with similar connotations – now there’d be an actual reason to give a Japanese character a Western name, for once!). But I am disappointed about it for a very silly reason anyway, because Neon’s English voice actor happens to also voice one of those other Hanamuras that I mentioned in that post (who incidentally happens to be one of my favourite fictional characters, which is probably the only reason I care about this), and it would have been a hilarious coincidence for him to have voiced two Hanamuras. He still sort of did anyway, but only sort of.)

Neon:  “I told you not to call me by my real name.”

Yoshino:  “What does it matter?”

Neon:  “You haven’t changed at all.”

Neon: “Hey, wanna blow off work and come to the beach with me?”

Yoshi: “Sorry, I can’t. Too much to do.”

Neon:  “Oh well, I guess it’s your loss then.”

Because Neon doesn’t have an ordinary real name in the dub, we also lose the exchange that told us some interesting things about Yoshino and Neon’s characters and how they see each other and their relationship, replaced with completely meaningless fluff. (Inviting her to blow off work and come to the beach with him is a significantly more usually-romantically-coded thing than anything else they actually do in the episode.)

Masaru:  “Is this really a mission?”

Marcus: “You do know this guy’s a criminal.”

Miki & Megumi: “Alleged criminal!”

Marcus: “Gimme a break!”

Instead of being exasperated by relationship nonsense, Marcus is instead really sure already that Neon’s a criminal and writing him off as not worthy of respect as a result. Miki and Megumi are being totally reasonable to point out that it’s only allegedly for now.

Masaru:  “But Yoshino…”

Marcus: “Yoshi, he’s hiding a Digimon.”

Marcus is way more sure and making a much bigger point of this than Masaru.

(Masaru may have already basically decided as well that Neon’s probably the culprit, but even if he had, I don’t think he’d really have cared. He’s not here for the crime-solving and human-focused side of things – so long as he gets to fight that Digimon, that’s all that matters to him!)

Yoshi and Neon have basically the same conversation about carrots as in the original, but it doesn’t have quite the same meaning without the detail that Neon used to be fat, implying that Yoshino was probably encouraging him to eat them to try and help him lose weight.

Yoshino:  “I was exercising parental love because I wanted you to eat healthy and get bigger.”

Yoshi: “Hey, I was just making sure you grew up big and strong by eating your veggies!”

The one real difference here is the lack of her mentioning parental love, which is a shame because I liked it emphasising the idea of Yoshino the mom friend. Perhaps they removed that because they’re trying to make this relationship seem more actually romantic. I also liked the idea that it really wasn’t that romantic in the original, at least on Yoshino’s end.

Yoshino:  “I remember you were never able to do anything on your own…”

Neon:  “Thanks for the meal.”

Yoshi: “This has been so much fun. It’s really a shame that you have to work tonight.”

Neon: “Wish I didn’t.”

Another really meaningful and interesting line about Neon’s kid self (and his subtly telling reaction to it) gets removed and replaced with more fluff. This isn’t even the dub accidentally losing meaningful bits because they’re missing the point; this is clearly them removing these interesting parts on purpose. Why. Neon’s character was one of the most compelling things about the original episode. All they’re doing is deliberately making this episode significantly less good.

Chika:  “Neon is so cool!”

Masaru:  “What part of him?”

Kristy:  “Oh man, that Neon is so cool!”

Marcus: “Yeah, right.”

Marcus sounds so weirdly bitter here, like he really has firmly decided that Neon sucks and doesn’t deserve anyone’s admiration because he’s A Criminal. Why the hell does he care so much? Masaru was just bewildered as to what the big deal about him was in a way that had nothing to do with the suspected Digimon-harbouring.

Chika:  “Obviously, the part where he tries so hard to protect his girlfriend!”

Kristy:  “Do you think I’ll ever date someone who’s as cool and sweet as Neon?”

Kristy also does not specify that she admires Neon for trying to keep his girlfriend out of the limelight, which I appreciated Chika doing.

Kristy: “Just have him make it out to ‘Superfan Kristy the Most Beautiful Girl in the Whole World’.”

Geez. Kristy: still noticeably more of a brat than Chika.

Masaru:  “Look, Chika, you wouldn’t like it if other people were prying about who you like or date, right? It’s the same with Yoshino. That’s to say nothing of the fact that you’re demanding his autograph just because he’s a celebrity…”

Marcus: “Look, you wouldn’t like it if people kept prying into the private details of your life – I mean, if you had any. Well, Yoshi’s the same. Besides, Neon is probably sick of signing autographs for annoying fans.”

Marcus is technically giving the same sort of advice here, but my god, he is being way more of a dick about it than is necessary. The dub is ruining Masaru’s adorable fatherly-advice moment and turning it into a Marcus Is A Jerk™ moment instead and I don’t like it one bit.

Kristy: “You think I’m annoying, Marcus…?”

And so in this version, Kristy is actually pretty within reason to get upset, because her brother was being a dick. (Though she was also being slightly more annoying and bratty about the autograph thing than Chika was in the first place.)

Promotional video: “Hey everybody! Have you heard the new song by pop sensation Neon? Download it today, and tell all your friends, too!”

The dub version of the “promotional video” actually has a voiceover and therefore is vaguely more believable as an actual promotion than just a weird silent two second loop. Fixing another minor plot hole, dub, well done.

The dub completely cuts out the security guard who confronts Masaru at the door, probably because they didn’t want to include the part where Masaru assaults the guy. This is despite the fact that in the original episode, Masaru implicitly gets in trouble for this later when the guy wakes up, and otherwise generally comes across as having acted very rashly and unreasonably for this whole situation. But nah, apparently we can’t have our kids’ show protagonist do a bad thing, not even when the story presents it like it was kind of a bad thing to do.

Marcus: “Open the door, I’m here to protect you!”

Masaru never actually mentioned that he’s here to protect Yoshino, even though the possibility that she was in trouble is most of the reason why he came. Marcus making an explicit point of this is him making things a lot more about himself than Masaru did, like him coming here is mostly him wanting to seem like the Big Hero, rather than him genuinely just being worried about his friend.

Yoshino:  “Masaru! What are you…?”

Yoshi: “Marcus, what are you doing?! You’ll blow it; Neon’s here! Go away!”

Yoshi gets a longer line here – they’re probably filling in time lost from cutting the security guard – but in the process I can’t help but think that Neon should have heard the “you’ll blow it” part, since he shows up at the door just a second later. Which in fact would have been Yoshi blowing it and not Marcus.

Masaru:  “Don’t play dumb! This was all part of your scheme!”

Neon:  “Wh-What are you doing? Who are you?!”

Masaru:  “What are you plotting, using that Digimon?!”

Marcus: “Don’t play dumb; I know what you’re up to!”

Neon: “What do you mean? Who are you?!”

Marcus: “Just confess and tell me what you have planned in that mind of yours!”

So, despite Marcus having been significantly more convinced than Masaru ever was that Neon is definitely hiding a Digimon, he’s… not bringing up the Digimon for some reason now that he’s actually confronting Neon, even though Masaru did. What the hell.

The dub cuts the moment of Yoshino slapping Masaru, albeit not very convincingly, since there’s still a shot of him briefly looking like he’s just been slapped, and then a visible mark on his face a shot later.

Yoshino:  “How dare you suddenly intrude into other people’s houses! How about you consider *not* being a nuisance to others for a change!”

Yoshi: “Who do you think you are, barging into somebody’s house just for a measly autograph?! I don’t care how big a fan you are, you better learn some manners, kid!”

I do enjoy Yoshi putting on even more of an act here, trying to make it look like Marcus is some crazed fan desperate for an autograph. Though I’m not sure that angle entirely matches with Marcus’s behaviour of grabbing Neon and demanding that he confesses what he’s up to. Then again, Neon is going to figure out people are onto him from this either way, so I guess it doesn’t matter how convincing Yoshi is or isn’t.

Masaru:  “Hey, wait! I said wait! What was that for?”

Yoshino:  “You’re ruining my undercover investigation.”

Marcus: “What was all that for, Yoshi?”

Yoshi:  “To stop *you* from blowing my cover and all of my hard work.”

I enjoy Yoshi being more pointedly annoyed about this with her emphasis that he’s ruining her hard work. She has a right to be.

Masaru:  “What the hell, I was just worried about her.”

Marcus: “Well, I’m so sorry for trying to save you!”

Marcus! This is not about you! Masaru wasn’t trying to make this about himself; he was just worried about his friend – but Marcus is making this all about him Being The Hero and him being the one to save her.

It’s not that I don’t hypothetically enjoy characters who have issues along those lines, but that should not be the point with Marcus here. The dub isn’t going to go anywhere interesting with this because it wasn’t a thing in the original, so instead this just sticks out as another thing making Marcus more self-absorbed.

The security guard showing up here now is still there in the dub, even though they cut Masaru knocking him out earlier.

Sampson: “Keramon’s making it seem like Neon’s selling more songs than he is.”

[…]

Kudamon: “The more popular people think he is, the more albums they buy.”

They have an interesting point here not brought up in the original, that even if Keramon is only making Neon look more popular by messing with the figures, that’s going to result in actually making him more popular. In the original, it was unclear exactly what kind of manipulation Keramon had been doing (until the obvious stunt last night) and I sort of vaguely got the impression that it’d been actually making people download his songs even if they never wanted to. Then again, that might be obvious enough that people would have reported it, so perhaps things were always meant to be how the dub is explaining them to be here. Good job to the dub again for making that clearer. (…Or so I thought; hold this thought.)

Thomas: “Clearly, Neon’s making a fortune through fraud.”

I don’t especially like the dub adding this, though, because Neon should not be doing this for the money. He’s doing this for the popularity. Admittedly Thomas is only speculating and wouldn’t know better, but him stating it like this makes it seem like this is the correct conclusion to make about Neon’s motives.

Neon:  “To think that you were one of them…”

Neon:  “I just can’t believe you were a part of this. I trusted you!”

Yoshi: “Yeah, that’s why you told me all about your illegal Digimon!”

I enjoy Yoshi actually somewhat responding to the accusation of betrayal by pointing out that he was hiding something from her as well. Though I also do think Yoshino’s response of completely avoiding the topic says something interesting in and of itself.

Neon:  “Don’t order me around!”

Neon: “Don’t you judge me!”

While the “don’t order me around” perhaps touched on Neon’s past of not being able to do much on his own, “don’t judge me” would also potentially touch on his past of being bullied. However, I can’t help but think that’s more by luck than judgement on the dub’s part, since they went and deliberately removed so many of the other hints of Neon’s past even being like that in the first place.

Neon:  “He distributes my songs around the world and manipulates music charts…”

Wait, so Keramon actually does forcibly distribute the songs even to people who don’t want them, and not just fake the figures so that people will be more likely to check out what the fuss is about?

Yeah, actually, this line is basically exactly what Neon said here originally, so I guess that is what was meant to have been going on after all. Sampson and Kudamon must have missed that part when they were discussing things earlier.

Yoshino:  “Hitoshi, stop this!”

Yoshi: “You have to stop this. Fraud is a criminal offence!”

Though the lack of her being able to call him Hitoshi is a bad thing again, I do appreciate Yoshi pointing out that fraud is a crime. Even aside from DATS’s rules that nobody’s allowed to have a Digimon unless they’re a DATS member, Neon has still been breaking the regular law anyway, and the original didn’t really emphasise that very much.

They cut out the moment of Keramon grabbing Yoshi by the neck, but they do still show her being held like that in a shot a second later.

Neon:  “No way! Keramon is my partner!”

Neon: “Keramon is my partner just like your Digimon! I wouldn’t betray him any more than you’d betray them!”

Dub-Neon is very deliberately making the parallel to DATS’s Digimon rather than only accidentally invoking it by happening to use the same word – but it really isn’t a parallel he should be making deliberately. Keramon is not a person. It hasn’t spoken or expressed its own desires or sense of self at all; it’s just giggled creepily and done as he’s ordered it to. There is no actual meaningful bond of friendship here for Neon to care about not wanting to betray.

I think the dub added this in because the dubbers actually think that it’s basically the same deal going on with Neon and Keramon as with DATS and their partners. But it really, really isn’t.

Neon:  “Thanks to him, my songs are played throughout the world! He’s making me famous!”

Neon:  “He made me rich and famous!”

Famous, yes, but the money is not the point, dub. Neon in the original never mentioned money as being part of why he’s doing this.

Also, the past tense implies that it’s only because of Keramon that Neon became famous at all. Which I really doubt is supposed to be the case, because there’s no sense given at any point that Neon just burst into the public eye out of nowhere within the past month since he’s had Keramon. He must have been already doing reasonably well on his own merit before he started using fraud.

Masaru:  “What’s this crap about him making you famous?! It’s not through your own efforts! If you wanted to change yourself through your music, then do it using your own merit!”

Marcus: “Your whole career is a giant lie! You haven’t actually achieved anything! That Digimon of yours did everything for you; you’re nothing but a phony!”

…But it seems the dub really wants us to think that it’s only because of Keramon that Neon got anywhere at all and he was never genuinely good enough to deserve any amount of success whatsoever. I think the dubbers might have missed the point of this as well and believed that that was actually what was going on in the original episode.

And of course, because of this, we lose the interesting nuanced moment of Masaru being really good and pointing out that Neon should have kept working at this using his own merit. Instead we just get Marcus boringly shooting him down completely.

Yoshino:  “Stop!”

Lalamon:  “Stop!”

Yoshi:  “No pictures!”

Lalamon: “Give me that camera!”

Lalamon demanding the camera further emphasises the point of Yoshi choosing to do this instead of fight, and it gives more of a vague impression that maybe she really does take the camera and wipe the pictures offscreen, even though we won’t be seeing it. I approve.

Neon:  “Everyone needs to quit making fun of me!”

Neon:  “My career’s ruined now, and you’re gonna pay!”

Unsurprisingly, after everything the dub has already removed about Neon’s interesting aspects, they also remove probably the most interesting line – the one that very strongly hints he used to be bullied and that this has all been about him breaking away from that in a way that gradually became more and more desperate and obsessive to the point of illegality.

Instead, dub-Neon is somebody who wanted to be rich and famous just because, apparently had genuinely no actual talent or merit to base that on whatsoever, and just faked his entire success story (which the dub expects us to think he could have believably done within a month) using Digimon-driven fraud. That’s just… boring.

It also makes it significantly less interesting and meaningful why Keramon evolves in response to these words, though I suppose a burst of vengeful anger at them for ruining his fraudulent career is still reasonable enough to do it.

Masaru:  “Change places! Let’s go, Agumon!”

Marcus: “We’ll take ‘im! It’s fightin’ time!”

I am mildly sad at the loss of the sense that Masaru sees this as him tagging in for Tohma and being equal teammates with him, rather than trying to grab all the glory himself.

Neon:  “Even the memory of when we met again?”

Neon: “Even the stuff about you and me?”

In the dub, Neon makes this just about losing what their relationship is now and nothing else. I liked the sense that, after all the fraud had been uncovered and he’d basically given up, original-Neon was mostly sad to lose the memory of seeing her again, his childhood friend who was there for him during that tough time and could be proud of how far he’d come.

Overall differences

This episode has quite a few significant differences, with a lot of them being bad, but at least there’s a small handful of good ones too, for once.

Let’s start with the good ones. This episode’s dub actually has a couple of small fixes to some minor logic issues the original had. They explained that they can’t break into Neon’s building because the high security meant that Neon/Keramon would see them coming and run, which made a lot more sense. Then they gave the promo video a voiceover, making it a lot more believable as a promo video than some weird silent two-second loop.

Yoshi also has a few minor good bits: leaning more into the story that Marcus is a crazed fan when he shows up at the door, pointing out that fraud is a crime. I also appreciate that they attempted to tone down Miki and Megumi’s harshness towards her at least a little.

But onto the bad stuff: the really huge glaring problem with the dub of this episode is Neon. Neon’s character was the big saving grace of this otherwise not especially interesting episode to me in the original, and none of what makes him that way is present in the dub. All of the hints of him being weak and helpless and probably-bullied as a kid are watered down into him simply having been kind of shy, there’s no hints of him remaking his image (no mention that Neon is a stage name; for all we know in the dub, that’s somehow his real name), and way too much emphasis put on him doing this for money, not just fame. If Marcus is to be believed, he had absolutely zero talent and got where he was entirely through Keramon’s meddling, which is extremely unrealistic to have happened in a single month without anyone questioning it and is also way, way less interesting. Dub-Neon is just some boring flat villain greedy for fame and fortune, rather than an interestingly messed-up character.

And it’s really strange to me that this character assassination is so complete and consistent that it must have been deliberate? The dub writers consciously decided to remove everything that made this episode’s focus character interesting. Why in the world would they choose to do that.

Then there’s this episode’s treatment of Marcus, which is standard fare at this point but still frustrating enough that I am always going to talk about it when it happens in any significant amount.

He’s more insistent that Neon’s harbouring a Digimon from the start despite the lack of proof, but then, bizarrely, doesn’t bring up Digimon when he breaks in even though Masaru did. He makes the breaking-in part a lot more About Himself by making a point that he’s here to save Yoshi, which is a very different thing than Masaru coming there in case Yoshino needed saving but not actually caring whether she knows it or not. Marcus is also more of an unnecessary dick to his sister in the bit where she’s asking him for Neon’s autograph. And the interesting nuance that Masaru had in his speech to Neon, about putting in effort and changing yourself through your own merits, is lost in favour of this new boring narrative where Neon apparently had zero talent and deserved none of his fame in the first place.

Oh, and the bit where Masaru attacked the security guard was cut, because I guess your kids’ show protagonist isn’t allowed to attack a responsible adult, even when the narrative presents this as a bad thing that he shouldn’t have done and implicitly gets in trouble for.

You rolled your eyes at his irritated remark. You knew Sebastian wasn’t in his best mood this morning and expected him to make your day nastier just because he felt like it.

“Sorry, but I’m sure it was caramel cappuccino. You asked for some cinnamon on the top, remember?”

“No, I didn’t.” He snarled and looked at you, giving a mocha frappe to Jill, his hair artist. “I asked for a vanilla latte. If you suffer from memory loss, you’d better visit your doctor once we get back to US.”

What an asshole. Mary, who was now applying some makeup on Sebastian’s face with her beauty blenders and brushes, bit down on her lip: she had been watching how he treated you for the last 3 weeks, and it was a living nightmare. It was very odd since Sebastian was on good terms with pretty much everyone around, but you were always an exception. Why? Neither Mary nor Jill could tell. There was nothing revolting in the way you behaved around Mr. Stan, simply doing your job as his assistant. You were getting him coffee every morning, buying some personal stuff for him, managing his meetings… but you were more an errand girl, that’s true. It was surprising for most of the other people surrounding you two, but you didn’t object to your tasks. You were furious because of the way Sebastian treated you.

He was mean, unfair, irritating, and rude. You didn’t deserve it.

“Well, my voice recorder tells I got everything right.” You pulled it from the pocket of your below-knee sheath skirt, ready to press the button.

“What the fuck is that?” The man rose to his feet immediately, almost pushing frozen Mary out of his way and stepping towards you. “How many times do I have to tell you? NO. FUCKING. RECORDERS.”

He was ready to snatch it from your hands, yet you were able dodge him right on time, hiding the recorder in your pocket again.

“Ok, ok, I’m sorry, I’ll put it away!” In a second you were behind Jill’s tall figure as if you were a child hiding from a bad-tempered parent, Sebastian watching you with anger in his cold blue eyes. “I’m not going to use it. But it’s still true, you asked for caramel cappuccino.”

“Guess what? I don’t fucking care.” He growled in a low voice. “You’ll go and get me vanilla latte because it’s your goddamn job. And I want my coffee before Jill’s finished with my hair, understood?”

Watching his with clear disdain on your face, you cursed under your breath. It was freaking hot in Prague where Sebastian was filming now and getting out the second time just to run to Starbucks once more would sure ruin both your makeup and a white blouse you had been wearing. Damn it.

“God, why do you have to be such a bastard most of the time?” You snapped at him, visibly shaking with fury. “What the hell is wrong with you? Are you a closet psycho or what?”

“I’m the one who pays you, honey.” He smiled at you the same way he always did it in front of the camera and you felt sick.

You stormed off the room without having a glance back at his perfect white teeth. Sebastian Stan was the worst person you had ever met, and you were working for him, seeing him every day and listening to his orders as if you were his pet. How did it come to this? Why did he look like the most perfect human being to you six months ago? What made him behave like that to you when in reality it was him who offered you a job?

God, it was all messed up. You did not remember when things got so bad you could yell at each other in a full voice. It was actually surprising, someone like you shouting and swearing at one of the world’s most famous actors, but it was something Sebastian let you do. Like he wanted you to scream at him regardless who surrounded you whether it was his makeup artists, agents, cleaning ladies or anyone else. It was like he got off on it.

True, this job payed well, much better than the one you had before. Moreover, in these 6 months you saw more countries than you did in your entire life, travelling with Sebastian everywhere and meeting tons of new people, many of them being great professionals. It was inspiring; it made you dream of all the things you thought were impossible; it made you curious and gave you a chance to practice your networking skills.

But Sebastian was fucking blowing it. After six months of constant everyday battles filled with rage and pure hatred you had gained weight, 10 pounds to be precise. Now you were having problems to sleep, and you knew it wasn’t the jet lag.

Anyway, you spent the whole day running around the city to buy him this or that. In the evening you were so tired you could barely move your legs while Sebastian was clearly pleased seeing you like that. It probably stroked his enormous ego.

Fuck it. You didn’t deserve a minute of it. You were not going to let him ruin you for fun, just because he could it since he payed you. Why did you spend you precious time trying to please him? Sure, you still considered him one of the best actors on the planet, but the things he did to you were not ok. He wasn’t ok. Maybe he really was a psycho or had some disorder he didn’t want to treat, you had no idea. But you knew it couldn’t continue like that. It was too much.

You spent an hour writing an email and asking to be laid off. It was just a few lines, simple and professional, yet you were constantly adding and then erasing new sentences. You shouldn’t make it personal, you thought to yourself. You doubted you could leave on agreeable terms, but you needed to give it a try. Even if your last argument with Mr. Stan might be the worst of them all, it would be your last one. It was worth it.

Sighing, you decided to take a stroll before going to bed. 15 minutes wouldn’t hurt, right? You’d have some fresh air and enjoy the view of Prague’s Powder Gate – you were lucky to stay right in the center of this magnificent old city. You could make some more photos to show your friends once you return back home. It was also nice to just sit on a bench and look at the night sky full of stars.

Maybe then you wouldn’t feel so guilty for leaving Sebastian and your team.

In the end, it took you way more that 15 minutes, but your late-night walk made your thoughts clear and left no regrets about your choice. What was happening between you and Sebastian wasn’t right, and you could do nothing but leave. With so many people wishing to work for him he would get another assistant in a matter of hours, and you would get your life back. Those money you earned would keep you afloat quiet some time even if you wouldn’t be able to get a job right away.

“What is this, Y/N?”

His voice almost made you jump. Sebastian stood up from the chair in the corner of your room once you put on the lights. What the Hell was he doing here so late? How did he open the door? If he needed anything, he could simply give you a call.

Oh. You saw your little black recorder in his hand.

“I told you I won’t use it anymore.” Your jaw clenched.

“I’m not talking about this piece of shit.”

He tossed your recorder on your bed as if he couldn’t care less and moved towards you so fast you had no time to step back.

“What is this pathetic email you wrote?” Sebastian’s handsome face darkened. “Are you not right in the head? You want to leave?”

“Yes, I do. What’s wrong with that?” Your expression hardened. He dared to touch your laptop when you weren’t there. “I thought you’d be glad to know. Today you told me three times I didn’t deserve working for you, correct?”

“You know perfectly well I wasn’t serious.”

“God, I have a hard time telling when you’re serious since all you do is hating me.”

He sent you an icy glare.

“You know I don’t hate you. You just happen to bring the worst in me, dear.”

There he was again. God, were you going to have this argument right now when you were deadly tired? You hoped it could wait till tomorrow, but it was clearly not your luckiest day.

“If you want to blame me again, it’s ok. I’m the worst one. I’m a bad person and a terrible assistant.” You squeezed your eyes shut and sighed again, scratching your forehead. “I get it. What I don’t get is why you aren’t happy I’m leaving.”

“Because I don’t want you to leave. If I really hated you so much, I’d already found another assistant, but I don’t want that.”

“Listen, let’s stop playing our games just for a few minutes.” This conversation made you feel even more exhausted. “We don’t get along. You don’t like me. Why do we torment each other? I don’t even remember the last time we had a regular conversation without shouting and cursing.”

“I’m not playing games with you, dear. You do.” He had already cornered you, his face determined and somewhat unsettling. “What do you want? A raise? More benefits?”

You were ready to yell at him again.

“Did you listen to what I just said? I want to leave. I want to come home and forget about all our horrible fights. I want to have a steady and boring job back in US. Do you understand?”

“NO, I DON’T!” The man screamed at you again, and now you suddenly felt his arms clenching your shoulders painfully and winced from his touch. “I already told you to stop toying with me! After all this shameless flirting and batting your eyes you wanna tell me you’re leaving? Do you think I’m so stupid to believe in this bullshit?”

It took you a few seconds to process his words. What? Flirting? Well, you did consider him handsome and charming, who on Earth didn’t, but you had never pulled anything like that. At first, it was because of your professionalism, and then your relationships escalated so fast you knew that he hated you and you hated him. What Sebastian had been even talking about?

You felt very aware how close he was once you felt his heavy breath on your face. He never did this before.

“Listen, I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I want to leave. That’s all.” You tried pushing him back with your hands against his chest. “Please, let me go. I need to… t-to go to the kitchen.”

“You’re going nowhere, dear.” His expression darkened. “Tell me the truth. You don’t want me to treat you like my assistant? I get it, I get it, it’s fine. I can treat you like my girl in front of everyone if that’s what you want.”

“No! I – “

His put his hand on your mouth immediately, leaning in closer.

“It’s ok, I understand. I grew tired of pretending like nothing happens between us, too. You want me to let everyone now? It’s ok. I’ll post our photo on Instagram tomorrow. Is this what you want? Is this what you want?”

You tried to scream, but his grip on you was too strong as if Sebastian was really some kind of super soldier. Desperately trying to wriggle free you only got him to hold you tighter, his soft lips all over your face already wet with tears.

“It’s ok, dear. I got it.” He shushed you, trying to keep your arms together with his hand and pushing his knee in between your legs. “I’m sorry it took me so long. I understand now, so you don’t have to go. You won’t go, will you?”

You couldn’t answer him even if you wanted to.

Ducktales finale spoilers

Sooo Ducktales will be ending soon my thoughts? Not as sad as when compared to Rise of the TMNT, Venture Bros, Brooklyn 99 (though it had a good run considering), Drunk History, Dark Crystal Age of Resistance. Though there are rumors Darkwing Duck is gonna be rebooted.... uhh maybe excited? I'd say maybe becauseeeee again its on a streaming service... and no for anyone's future question don't have Disney+ and have no intention of getting it why? Cause I'm broke/on a budget and I can't buy every stupid streaming service for the sake of a few shows.

But I'm getting off topic the show in general... sorta sad but sorta not. I'll be honest some eps of Ducktales in the last season didn't fit well with me. Some felt uhh very cliche/or readable, some felt kid dumb (but its a kids show so you're gonna get a few of those more than once), some felt like they were uhh if I had to compare like when you'd watch Adventure Time and you'd be "WTF was that one for". I wouldn't say dark you're just "that one felt random". Sometimes thats not bad but heh depends on the taste.

There are a few things disappointed we didn't get to see one Donald & Della's ACTUAL parents interacting with their children, GRANDCHILDREN. Don't get me wrong their interactions with Scrooge was nice but we barely got one ep with family that WASN'T him. You'd think given what dangerous work they were involved with we'd see a flashback or actual talk of their parents talking to them. Especially with Della being a single mother oO. Kinda feel it slightly unrealistic that they'd just sit and do nothing (and no there's no sign they're dead so they should be around) when their daughter disappeared into space. I mean maybe it'd been nice to see a few eps of past Donald getting advice from his mother Hortense how to raise the triplets. Heck would have like to see Hortense & Matilda's relationship.

Second the triplets father would had been nice oO. Yes he does have a father. All these fan ships but no one actually wondering "hey who's the boys father?".

  Third would had been nice to see more of Violet's family life. I mean whats the point of giving her "dads" if they never have a role beyond background character. Heck would had been nice to see a day of Violet and Lena's life with their fathers. Yes probably to the viewers it probably would had been boring but whatever 8B.

Four uhh I dunno explore space more? Maybe actually see some of Moon's home. I'll be honest that episode of "Moonlander on Earth" ep always bugged me. While I could believe some of the moon aliens wanted to stay on earth. I'm not convinced an entire planet thought Earth was so amazing they'd just stay there forever. People are fickle things, I can believe some wanted to stay like a vacation. But I feel at some point some, like Penny wanted to just go home. And I always found it... disturbing that no one attempted to really listen (no I don't count Webby cause that was written more of an experience lesson than "oh I miss home"). I mean the McDucks have all the money in the world, thats how Scrooge spent almost all his fortune finding Della. I'm just not convinced Scrooge and them thought "Hey we got extra rockets if they wanna go home we'll let them". No it was "oh they'll never get home, lets not bothering asking or giving them those extra resources. I think the show MISSED a good opportunity to let Penny go home (as well as others). And since Fenton or Gyro are often considered so smart they couldn't make a special teleport device JUST for them or ways to keep communicating with the moon. Thus meaning they could have explored space. And while some might argue "yes we needed Penny for the finale" (minor spoiler). She didn't DO anything she and Goldie were mostly used for cameo purposes. Sooo wasted use there.

Hmm anything else....  would have LIKED to seen more eps with Gandra/Fenton but hey if that Darkwing Duck spinoff is a thing maybeeee Gizmoduck will make special appearances and Gandra/Fenton can double date with Morgana & Drake(yes I wanted her to make an appearance I liked her goth look). Uhhh I don't think we ever got a Selene & Della interaction. (So far no eps were really... well friendship stuff. I mean I got a small fraction (if that) with Gods on the Block ep but it was near the literal END)

Also wish we could had more from the old show cameos Kit/Molly, Rescue Rangers, Goofy... pft plus I'll be honest before the show ended would had loved an actual cameo of Goofy, Mickey & Donald just alll together. Pfttt omg I would had loved a Max & Roxanne cameo date/wedding (yes I shipped them).  Haha more interactions would had been fun. And while I enjoyed the Talespin sorta crossover... could had more (and yes sorta ship Kit/Della. heh sorta more of a crackship haha). And lets be honest that Molly cameo was wasted potential. I mean would had been cool to see Baloo & Becky. Though I understand to a degree why we didn't. At least with Baloo.  But ahh well what can you do.

  And same with Daisy and Donald buttttt gonna take some of the finale as something. I'm just gonna say it left enough for my imagination to think "they're having a happily ever after soon". Uhh another minor spoiler with Ludwig revealed not to be dead (which I'm glad)... just disappointed he wasn't in the credits or given more interactions with Scrooge. Yeah I know they weren't BEST friends or anything but I dunno I do associate them as friends.

Anything else... uhhh would had been nice to see more of Boyd and Doofus family moments too. I mean I dunno consideringgggg that life probably was better for Doofus' parents now that they had an ACTUAL loving child. Be nice to have seen more scenes. I mean heck that last ep with Doofus... uhh jumping? I assume it meant Doofus had closure and accepted his fate? So I dunno would had been good to see him and Boyd bond more. Heck I'd like to have seen his parents' telling Gyro in finale (yes minor spoiler) take care of "our" son.

Nowww onto the finale gonna put spoilers soo warning here.... as for the finale it was... good. I'm not gonna say "Oh it was the best everrrrrrrr". Nah it was pretty good given their budget or whatever. Yeah some felt rushed and all those cameos while I appreciate the thought felt wasted potential. I mean I get why budget/timing etc. Just saying you know could had some Goldie/Scrooge moments, more Lena & Violet, Webby friendship stuff. I mean heck when they were all "released" (and judging by that cube system) there was a lot we don't really see where they go or how the Ducktales group got everyone where they originally belonged.

What did I think of Webby's so called surprise... uhh mixed. Bigger picture wise kinda explained that need to be so clingy. To a degree I sorta agree with the split fans I like it and I don't like it. But I get it the writers NEEDED something for shock value cause lets face it they ran everything else. I say a part of me didn't like it cause I was kinda hoping this version would show us Webby's real parents. And I'm not fully convinced that photo was just a fake or some random relatives Beakley took to shut her up. 

I think she sounded genuine when she said "I missed a lot". I admit when the whole "oh she's made from FOWL" was becoming obvious. I thought Beakley was subtly hinting that her daughter made Webby. I dunno could see that happening seeing that this whole ep was hinting at adults who did NOT think of their actions effects (yeap Scrooge, Della's choice to go on that rocket, Bradford's granny traumatizing the dummy), I thought "Ohh sooo she felt neglect and rebelled or fell for the enemy". But anyways yeah I still think Beakley probably DID have a daughter. Where is she? I dunno, thats kinda the whole point. Either she died or like Donald did with Scrooge, broke away from her family. I really believe whatever the reason, her daughter's gone from her life and Beakley deeply regrets she wasn't a more attentive mother. She probably to a degree saw Webby as her second chance to do better by her.

Hmmm lets see anything else.... as dark as it was with what Bradford did... not really shocked. And while he was obviously a villain I think his background did prove a point. But I could be thinking of Dean Venture and Dr Venture's childhood. Not every kid is built or for that matter wants an adventure life. Bradford was a product of his well intentional but neglectful family. Had the triplets or Donald not wanted this life that could had been them. Thankfully it wasn't 8B.

I admit the part with the villians at the end was quiet surprising. Not because they turned him into a bird pft. But because technically they saved Scrooge but heh I get it, chalk it up to either "they don't like to be used" or "Bradford was so terrible he was beneath even their level". Just somewhat made me wish Magica could have found Poe or something (I liked his design and voice actor). 

 And super glad we didn't really lose a lot of villains. I dunno I wanted Phantom Blot & Pepper to escape, fight another day stuff. And I kinda think to a degree thats why we saw that dumbed-down clone of Bradford. He's gone but that clone could get "smarted" up to stir more trouble 8B. Maybe I dunno.

Heh but all in all I enjoyed this finale. Its was wayyyy better than Star and Tangled's finale, no flippin' drama :P. I mean I suppose you could call Donald & Daisy leaving drama? but no not really cause literally none of this bothered me. The credits kinda gave me that nostalgia of how this show got so much attention. So while it was rushed maybe and it had its flaws. All in all it kept up with the heart. Soo I enjoyed the credits a lot good way to say goodbye

Lots of fluff and gender neutral.

“So y/n were you scared to start working with your other cast members since you came in on the third season?” The interviewer asked looking over at you expectantly.

“Um yes I was extremely scared. I felt so anxious the entire casting process and then I was so happy to get the role, but then I started feeling really anxious again thinking about how I was going to be acting around some really talented people and of course I didn’t want to mess up and ruin the production. Before I first met the cast I cried for like an hour and finally my mom told me just be the best you can be and so I walked in there with my head held high and immediately went to the farthest corner away from everybody. I was so shy for about the first three weeks of filming but I realized it was affecting my acting so I decided to just completely go for it and be myself and I am so glad I did, because I have made some of the best friends possible.” You rambled on. Slightly blushing after realizing you had just revealed a lot about yourself.

“Oh y/n/n you're going to make us cry” Finn said wiping away fake tears. The heat instantly started rushing into your cheeks. You had liked Finn since the first time you met. He was so cute and nice and also liked similar bands to you. You guys instantly bonded over your love of vinyl.

“Yeah y/n was so shy when they first came on the show we all thought at first they just didn’t like us, but it didn’t take much for us to realize they were just nervous to talk to everyone. The duffers even came to us and told us that at first y/n would probably be very shy but would slowly begin to open up to us. I remember the first time they laughed at a joke and everyone just kinda stopped and looked at them. They have one of the sweetest laughs.” Milly said.

Your heart warmed to Millie’s compliment and you gave her a little kpop heart while blushing. You should really get this blushing under control. It was getting ridiculous at this point.

“Oh y/n/n don’t get all embarrassed on us.” Caleb says laughing reaching over to pinch one of your now inflamed cheeks.

“Sorry I just get so embarrassed remembering how shy I was. I have grown so much since then, and the cast has really helped me gain so much confidence.” You said honestly looking at the interviewer.

“Y/n is like the cast’s baby.” Finn says looking over you.

“I am not.” They reply sassily. Everybody busts out laughing.

“Okay now the next question is for Finn.” The interviewer says looking over at Finn with an evil glint in his eye. You began to feel nervous. He was going to get a bad question wasn’t he.

“Shoot,” Finn says nonchalantly.

“I heard a rumor that you had a crush on one of your castmates while filming. Is this true?”

Now it was Finn’s turn to begin blushing. You had never heard of him having a crush on someone before. Was it Milly? You had thought you and Finn were pretty good friends now why wouldn’t he have told you?

“Man where do you guys get this info? You gotta tell me your source man.” Says Finn jokingly.

“Oh come on now don’t be shy Finny, tell the nice man the truth.” Milly said in a sing-song voice.

“Yeah come on Finn,” said Noah in the back. “Don't be shy.”

“Umm well I guess I may have had a small crush on one of the cast members.”

“Can we hear any details?”

“Well I’m not going to give any details but they are one of the sweetest, most beautiful people in the entire world and I still can’t believe that I was so lucky to even work in the same room as them.

“Wow that doesn’t sound like a little crush that sounds a lot like love my friend.” The interviewer says jokingly to Finn.

After that little escapade the interview seemed to end quite shortly after. It had actually been a lot of fun. You had never been interviewed on tv before, but still even amidst all the excitement you couldn’t help but think back to Finn's crush. Who was it? Was it Natalia? Maya? Sadie? Gaten? There were so many options each of your castmates were extremely beautiful and talented and smart, in a way that you could never be. Your mood immediately dampened thinking of that. In the words of Conan Gray “I wish I were Heather,” right about now. You continued walking along with the cast back to the suv that had taken you to the interview. You were first to the car so you did the courteous thing and climbed into the very back row. Finn right at your heels. Noah and Millie sat in the next row and Caleb sat in the front seat. Each of you had a lot of space since Gaten and Sadie didn’t come to this interview due to scheduling conflicts, yet Finn still sat so close to you could feel your leg touching against his.

Not five minutes into the ride everyone except you and Finn were immersed into a very loud and heated discussion about their thoughts on whether or not the french fries from McDonalds tasted better than the french fries from Wendy’s. Personally you didn’t like french fries so you just continued to stare out of the window to look at the scenery.

After a minute or two you felt two eyes boring into the side of your head, you turned slightly to your right and saw that finn was staring at you. Why was he looking at you? Dang you had a booger didn’t you? Oh god if you had a booger and finn saw it you would probably die from embarrassment.

“Okay I can’t handle not knowing do I have something on my face? Please just tell me.” You said turning fully towards finn and looking deep into his dark brown eyes.

“You.. uh. No..you don’t.. I just.. ugh. “

You sat patiently waiting for him to finish. Still staring at him expectantly he visibly sighed and looked back towards you.

“I mean no you don’t have any thing on your face other than your facial features.”

You laughed a little noticing his odd wording.

“Well that is good to hear because I thought I saw you looking at me and wasn’t for sure If I did or not.”

Finn let out a small jittery chuckle “No. Nope. You're totally good. Everythings good. I'm good. YOu're good. You look goo-.”

Your eyes widened, was he just about to say you looked good? Did he think you were pretty? No get that out of your head he clearly likes someone else, someone you're probably friends with and like too. Now that you couldn’t get your mind off of the topic again you decided to be brave and ask him about it.

“So..” You said turning your head towards him. He looked back at you looking nervous about what you were gonna say next. “I don’t want to make you uncomfortable because I know it’s none of my business, but how come you never told me you had a crush on one of our cast mates?

“Oh so you heard that.” He said, turning his head to look down at his feet.

“Well yeah I think everyone heard that.” You said sarcastically. “I don’t want to make you feel like you have to tell me but if you wanna talk about it I can keep a pretty good secret.”

“Oh I know that. Remember that one time Sadie whispered something to you and you couldn’t stop laughing for like three hours straight? Filming literally got pushed back a day, and you wouldn’t tell anyone what she had told you because she asked you to keep it a secret.”

You felt yourself giggling thinking about what she had told you trying to get a reign on yourself you forced yourself to stop focusing on the joke and start focusing on something else. “Wow I’m surprised you remember that if I'm being completely honest. I mean you weren’t even in that scene.”

“Yeah but I like to watch you.” His eyes widened and he suddenly turned to look at your reaction. “I mean I like to watch you act because you’re a great actor/actress.”

Your cheeks began to redden at his words. He likes to watch you. He liked to watch you. He thought you were a great actor/actress. You kept repeating his words in your head and you felt yourself get more giddy each time you rethought of his previous words.

“You’re a pretty good actor yourself Mr. Wolfhard.”

“Thank you.” Now Finn was blushing. He looked so cute when he blushed. Well really he looked so cute when he did anything. You suddenly felt like your heart was going to beat out of your chest. Gosh you wished you could just kiss his freckled cheeks. Sadly, you thought that might give away that you have a crush on him. You knew you were staring but you just couldn’t make yourself stop. He was so gorgeous.

You both quickly made eye contact and looked away at each other. He likes someone else you had to repeat to yourself. You felt nauseous thinking about Finn with someone else but you wanted your friend to be happy. You were so curious so you decided to bring it up one last time.

“So do I get to know who the lucky person is that you have your eyes set on? I’ll even guess and you can tell me if I get it right or wrong if you are comfortable with that.”

“Yeah I don’t think you’ll guess correctly but you can try.”

You sat for a second and tried to think of everything that was said about this person. “Okay well apparently they are one of our cast mates and they’re very sweet, beautiful and talented. That could really be anyone now that i’m thinking about it.” You began stroking your imaginary beard.

Finn was just watching you with an amused look on his face.

“Okay I have my first official guess.”

“And who would that be my love?”

“The only person who I truly believe matches that description is David.” You couldn’t help but laugh at yourself.

“OMG how did you know?!” Finn says dramatically.

Tapping your forehead you whispered in your best british accent, “Just a brilliant mind I guess.”

“You are so close yet so far away from the correct answer.” Finn said in mock disappointment.

“Hmm who could it be. Who could it be.” As soon as you finished talking Millie's joyful laugh ripped through the van, and as you turned to Finn as he turned to Millie. You immediately knew who he liked. He liked- no loved Millie as the interviewer had put it. You could never compete with her. Milly was confident, gorgeous, kind and smart. All things that you seriously lacked.

Once everything died back down Finn turned to you and said, “Okay final answer. If you get this one wrong I guess you'll never know who The Finn Wolfhard likes.” After seeing the loving look he gave Millie you really didn’t want to keep playing this stupid game. It was clear to you now all the moments that you had ignored between them but you couldn’t continue to do that. There was clearly a lot of chemistry between the two, and who were you to stand in between that?

“Okay but for real I know who you like.” You said suddenly leaned closer to make sure not to give away the secret to prying ears. As much as you loved them you wouldn’t tell Finn’s secret no matter what.

“It’s Millie.”

Finn suddenly gave you a baffled look. “Wow for a second I thought you were going to say the correct answer, but clearly not.”

“Don’t be rude and you don’t have to lie to me anymore. Jokes over. I know the truth and so do you.” You turned back away the second you felt the tears begin to burn at the back of your eyes. Oh no. This was just great you were going to start sobbing next to your crush just because he doesn’t like you. You felt so pathetic. You never thought a boy would have this much hold over you. How had you even let this happen? This is absolutely ridiculous.

Almost as if he could sense you getting upset Finn leaned in close to you and whispered into your ear, “I don’t like Millie. I only have eyes for one person and they’re sitting right next to me.”

You didn’t turn around but you knew he saw your back stiffen as soon as he said the words.

“If this is a joke I will never speak to you again.” You said slowly turning towards him wiping the tears away from your eyes.

“I would never joke about something this important y/n/n. The first time I saw you, I immediately knew I wanted to be your everything. You make me feel a way no one else ever has. I get all tongue tied around you and I get butterflies in my stomach, but it’s so worth it if I get to be by your side even for a second. I have loved you and will continue to love you for the rest of my life.”

You were in disbelief at his words. You would've never imagined he could have ever felt this way about you.

“I feel the same way about you, Finny. You’re the sweetest person I have ever met.”

And then you were both smiling like fools at each other. You probably stared at each other for ten minutes straight before you each turned away. But you let out a happy sigh when Finn’s hand found your own and you intertwined your pinky’s together.

That's how you sat for the rest of the ride. Neither of you spoke or looked at each other. You both just continued to look out of the windows and revel in the fact that you both liked each other.

As Retold by Ginger, Episode 33: Family Therapy

Brief summary

It’s April, and Macie’s 13th birthday is coming up. Incidentally, so is Mipsy’s on the same day, and she’s planning a huge bash with karaoke, dry ice machines, and sushi. Macie, on the other hand, thinks her parents are planning a surprise party for her because they stop talking anytime she comes into the room. When Ginger gets her invite to Mipsy’s party in the mail (courtesy of Courtney), she realizes that she hasn’t gotten an invite to the party Macie’s parents are allegedly throwing her. 

That day, Ginger and Dodie get the call from a very morose Macie, telling them that there is no party because her parents fucking forgot her birthday. This, naturally, gets Ginger and Dodie real heated, so they drag Macie out of the house and over to the office of the Drs. Lightfoot to confront them. Then, Ginger interrupts their session like she’s storming the damn Bastille, because you can always count on her righteous indignation to get shit done. 

Upon realizing their neglectful-ass parenting, the Drs. Lightfoot proceed to overcompensate for basically ignoring their only damn child for years by going for full-speed infantilization. They watch her sleep, put her in onesies, buy her a swing set and jungle gym. Macie’s enjoying it a little too much, though, even letting them plan a make-up birthday party at a petting zoo. On one hand, it’s great that they acknowledge her existence, but it’s also super horrifying to realize what they consider their last save point was. 

When Ginger decides to have a come-to-Jesus meeting with Macie about the pre-K of it all, Macie basically tells her to stay in her damn lane and storms off. Ginger, naturally, does no such thing, so even after a talk with the always-wise Lois, she decides that she’s gonna do as much damage control as possible since she can’t stop the party from happening. This, of course, is unnecessary because Courtney and Miranda decide it falls squarely in So Bad It’s Good territory.

Meanwhile, the boys go on a school field trip to see a naked mole rat, live and in-person. When Carl gets the chance to hold one, he drops it, freaking everyone else out. When it crawls up his pant leg, he unexpectedly loses his shit until he manages to fling it across the room. Of course, he plays it off like he wasn’t terrified, but it’s clear that he was shook. Carl won’t admit that to Hoodsey until later on after Blake calls him on it, and from there, things just slide into paranoia. Fortunately, Carl pulls himself out of it when he tries to barricade himself and Hoodsey in the doghouse, and they decide to redeem themselves by catching it. 

Spot the Clique

Donna and Dinah are sitting next to each other in the opening scene, and we see Casey in the front row later on with the clique-adjacent Mye Zuckerberg. 

Casey, Tracey(not Lefferts), Dinah, and Lonnie are at Mipsy’s party. 

Hope is spotted in the hallway as Dodie hands out invites to Macie’s party. 

Tracey (again, not Lefferts) is also at Macie’s party. 

Courtneyisms

Only Courtney would insist on her and Miranda doing a duet of “It’s Courtney” (the song from her talent show production) at Mipsy’s birthday party. Even on someone else’s birthday, she needs to be the center of attention for at least three minutes. 

Gingerisms

(At the office) “Macie, just go ask that nice, pointy woman if you can please speak to your parents.”

One can only hope that Ginger realizes that she treats Macie like a child, but in a different way than the Drs.Lightfoot do. Her unsolicited helpfulness takes the form of overprotection when Macie’s involved. (see also the Little Seal Girl episode)

The Dodie Desperation Index

Dodie is actually behaving herself in this episode, except for when the girls get to the office and she tries to dip out. 

Miranda’s Malice

The sheer deadpan of it all when she has to sing is hilarious, because it’s basically a law(that I just made up) that if your voice actor can sing, so can your character. Cree Summer can sing, therefore Miranda can sing. I’ll even take it one step further and say that the Cree Summer version of the OP is how Miranda probably sounds when she sings. 

(At Macie’s party) “Oh, it looks like a four-year-old threw up decorations everywhere.”

“Who would have thought Little Miss Adenoids would come up with something so retro that it’s almost cutting edge?” 

(Comforting Courtney) “Let’s go make nice with those innocent baby ducks again." *grumbles* “That should take your mind off yourself.”

Hoodsey: Chaps. Gents. It really gets on my nerves when he’s not consistent. 

Hoodsey again: Cripes, Blake, it was a gag. As in “You make me wanna...”

So, in their quest to conquer their fear, the boys track the escaped mole rat. At one point, Carl picks up and examines its poop. 

Also, Hoodsey has been so terrified that the mole rat might be in the sewers that he hasn’t pooped in days, if not weeks.

April 22nd is on a Sunday.

If you listen to Chet’s birthday announcement dronings at the beginning of the episode, you’ll notice that there are two kids turning 12 in April. This is the first indication that there are 6th graders at Lucky Jr. High. 

This is clearly a 7th grade episode that landed in Season 2 for some reason. Chronologically, this would go somewhere near the end of Season 1 before Camp Caprice. 

The episode pretty much covers the entire month of April, because we started with the month’s birthday announcements, and ended the weekend after Macie’s birthday, if not the weekend after that.

Trivial Things

Macie and Mipsy share a birthday, April 22nd, making them both Tauruses. 

Macie is actually the oldest of the three girls. This tells us that Dodie and Ginger have birthdays between April 23 and October 1(to meet the school cut off date for enrollment)

Ginger wanted to make a cake for Macie’s birthday. Lois said she just bought soy flour, as if they’d just run out. I now want to know why they keep soy flour in their house on the regular. Is Macie gluten-intolerant? FODMAP-intolerant? Does she have Celiac disease? Do they keep it for her or do they use it themselves, too? 

The brown girl in the green glasses is named Serena, in case you see her in other episodes.

summary: you work in a theater and you get to work with seokmin, who was famous for his acting and singing skills. when he was practicing for his upcoming play, you managed to get close to your idol.

“y/n, wake up!” your friend, sorin dodged you and you lazily opened your eyes, “what?” you asked, covering your face with a book. “get your ass up! we don’t wanna be late!” she said as she threw a pillow on you.

you squinted your eye, “late for what? don’t be silly it’s saturday today!” you said as you shifted from your bed, “you know what, whatever i’m going to work. if you don’t wanna see seokmin, you’re probably gonna cry.” your eyes shot open as you immediately stood up and looked at your friend.

“s-seokmin?” you stuttered “don’t you remember? irene told us that seokmin wll be havng a play on the theater we work at.” she smiles, “so if you don’t wanna come-”

“wait for me! i’m just gonna wash myself.”

you tied your hair into a ponytail as you entered the ginormous auditorium. “you’re late.” irene says as she crosses her arms, “i’m really sorry, i forgot we have duty today.” irene sighs and shook her head.

“okay, everyone gather up,” irene yells, “so you all know we have a someone special coming over. lee seokmin, i’d be surprised if you don’t know him.” irene quriks an eyebrow.

“he will be practicing and will perform here on our theater. so you better behave yourselves and please i don’t care if you’re a fan of him, please don’t gather up on him asking for autographs and pictures. he will be practicing, not doing a fanmeeting.” the girl smiles.

“anyways,” she claps her hands, “let’s prepare. they should be here in a few minutes.” then everyone started their own duty.

“it’s amazing, isn’t it?” sorin mumbles, “seokmin will be here!” she silently squeals. “he’ll probably just practice and it’s gonna be a busy week for us especially there’s a play coming. and it’s seokmin! a lot of people will surely come!” you said.

after everyone prepared the necessities for the practice, everyone was starting to go down like crazy, like a drill is happening.

“the hell is happening?” you asked, “seokmin! he’s downstairs!” lia, your co-worker told you in excitement.

you sighed as you cleaned up a few mess, “aren’t you going down? you’re a big fan of him, right?” sorin chuckles, “why go down when he’s gonna go up here anyways. it’s just a waste of time.” you said, lying down on the stage, exhausted.

the moment when seokmin showed up, you felt like you were in the movies. he was surrounded by your co-workers, who were dying to hold seokmin’s hands or have a picture with him.

“guys!” irene shouted which startled you and everyone else, including seokmin. “what did we talk about?” everyone sighed sadly and parted from seokmin.

“lee seokmin, i am very honored you chose to work with us.” irene smiles, “and since i am in charge, i gurantee you that you’d want to work with us again for your future projects!” she gave a big smile.

seokmin smiled back as he put his hands on his waist, looking around the place, “thank you, ms. irene, in fact, it’s bigger than i expected and it holds more people, so i guess this project is a big show.” he chuckles.

your eyes were glued to him, it felt unreal for you. he was more handsome up close, he noticed your stare and smiled at you, even gave you a wink.

what, you thought.

am i seeing correctly?, you quietly murmured.

“alright, so do you want to practice already? read your lines or eat?” irene brought seokmin away and you sighed out.

sorin waved her hand in front of you as you came back to your senses. she chuckles, “fantasizing about him already?” you looked at her, with your eyes wide open and you grabbed her arm.

“did you see that?” you asked lowly, almost like a whisper. she smiles, “i did. he winked at you. so lucky.” you slowly let go of her hand and placed your hand on your mouth.

“so it wasn’t a dream?” sorin laughs, “let’s go! you need to focus, let’s talk about him when we get home.” sorin drags you.

he was on stage, looking so professional. the way he acts, looks so real and natural. you still can’t believe you’re watching him up close.

“he’s good.” you hear a voice next to you, it was jihoon. both of you don’t have a proper conversation yet, you also didn’t know how to be friends with him since he always looked intimidating.

“yeah.” i replied “his voice is beautiful too.” you looked at him and chuckled, “are you falling in love?” you asked, it was his turn to chuckle, “no. i’m just really amazed.”

jihoon helps enhance the beat of the songs used in the play. he sometimes does everything on his own, without a hand.

you admit, he’s a genius and pretty handsome as well. you never really saw him talk to girls. “you’re the first girl i talked to.” jihoon says.

you frowned at him, “pardon?” jihoon smiles at you, “i never spoke a word with a girl.” “should i be thankful?” you asked. “depends. i want to to be friends with you.”

you smiled and nodded, “sure.”

“okay, break time!” a man shouted.

you went back stage to fix the lightings and everything. “y/n, is it okay if i leave you here for a while? i’m just gonna get snacks.” wonwoo said, the one in charged for the props and lighting.

you nodded, “wonwoo, is it okay if you get me a bottled water and a sandwich? i’ll pay you later.” he nodded as he walked away.

“he-“ you squealed and later covering your mouth when you saw the person who didn’t mean to startle you. he smiles, “i just wanted to say hi.” seokmin says.

“oh my, i’m sorry about that. i get startled easily.” you bit your lower lip in embarrassment. “it’s fine. i just noticed you’ve been staring at me. you might melt because of me.”

you got fluttered and tried to hide it but you can’t help but smile, “i- uh... you’re amazing, honestly. i’m a fan.” you said. “is that so? wanna take a pic?” seokmin offers.

“what?” you asked, not sure if you heard the right thing. seokmin smiles and takes your phone in your hand and opens the camera.

“smile.” he says, “a fangirl like you can’t get this lucky.” he winks at you once again. you looked at the camera and smiled widely.

your phone was still in his hands and he was doing something. you were busy admiring him, he lookef so perfect. he smelled really good too.

he hands you your phone and you were awaken. you opened your phone and he set the picture as your lockscreen. “so that when your friends open your phone you can show them that you had a picture with me.” seokmin smiles.

his smile is the purest thing. “thank you.” you replied.

it was the day of the show and you promised seokmin to watch him. you were on the backstage, watching him on the screen. he looked really good and people seem to love it.

actually, the whole time seokmin was practicing, the song he was singing was stuck in your head and you’d sometimes hum it.

when you guys had a little talk, both of your interests got the conversation long and deep. it was about music. both of you had the same taste of music and music had a special place in both of your hearts.

you got close with him and both of you would recommend each other a music both of you would listen. he was also willing to teach you how to play the guitar even though he’s still learning.

you happily agreed. seokmin was more than a theater actor. he looks intimidating on stage but he’s actually a softie when it comes to everyone.

both of you got comfortable with each other. you somehow felt like both of you knew each other for a very long time.

when the show ended, everyone applauded. everyone’s reaction was very heartwarming. when the camera was zoomed in on seokmin’s face, he gave a smile and winked.

the moment the curtains closed, he immediately went to you and gave you a big hug. “thank you.” he whispers.

“for what?” you asked, “for everything.” he replies. you weren’t sure what he meant but you hugged him back.

when everyone left the auditorium, seokmin’s friends were inviting him to go eat hut he declined all of them. as i finished cleaning, he walked up to me.

“you’re still here? why don’t you celebrate? you’ve done well.” you smiled. seokmin gave you a big smile as he swayed his hand on your shoulder and both of you walked away.

“i declined invites so that we could talk.” you frowned at him, “we can talk sometime, you don’t have to.” seokmin pouted, “i don’t have that kind of patience.” he says.

you chuckled. seokmin stopped his tracks and so did you, you looked at him and he looked so bright even though the auditorium was a bit dim.

“here goes nothing,” he murmurs “wh-“ “would you like to go out with me?” he asks and he looked a bit tensed.

you were honestly shocked but at the same time not. you were kind of used to him flirting with you when he gets to talk to you.

you didn’t want to assume that he meant it so you always tried to shove it off. “i respect your decision, y/n.” seokmin says.

“i understand if you don’t wa-“ “i’d love to.” seokmin’s eyes widened as he looked at you “what?” he asked, “i said i’d love to!” you replied.

seokmin had the widest smile than before as he hugged you tightly with a smile on his lips. the moment he let go of you, he held your hands and you can’t help but form a smile on your lips.

“let’s celebrate! my treat.” seokmin says, “i should be the one to treat you!” you pouted. “oh come on we have two things to celebrate today!” he whines.

“what is the other one?” you asked.

“you said yes to me. i can’t wait to receive that in the next few years.” he smiled.

A/N: This chapter was written before the news of Chadwick Boseman. That being said, the news of his passing brings such devastation at a time that is already upsetting. Chadwick wasn’t just an actor, he was a husband, son, friend, and so much more to many others. He dedicated his life to doing better and being better, and in that, I believe he has succeeded. He was resilient, kind, smart, and a true king. He is a true representation of what a HERO is. May he Rest In Peace.

CHAPTER TWENTY TWO:

“Zoey, get up. We fell asleep.”

The gentle nudges at her side made Zoey groan at the unwanted agitation. She wouldn’t consider herself a morning person. She rolled onto her side to face Harry, his curly mane in disarray, and his eyes still puffy from sleep. He always looked like a child in the morning which she found endearing. But, still half awake herself, Zoey couldn’t quite get a grip on what he was saying. 

He repeated himself, “It’s already 9 AM. If they come to wake us up and see us in the same bed, we’re screwed.”

Screwed? That was harsh. I mean, sure, they hadn’t quite figured out what was going on between them, but aside from Rory, she didn’t see the big deal in their friends knowing what was happening. The thrill of sneaking around was fun, but how long did he expect that to continue? Did he expect it to continue? Or was it going to end as soon as she got on the plane to go home tomorrow? Maybe that’s why he didn’t answer her question last night. What would happen when the vacation was over? 

It was far too early to be over-analyzing. Wordlessly, she slipped into a satin floral tie-front collar dress and white shoes. Zoey felt his eyes on her as she got dressed, but she was still too irritated at his poor choice of words and the sudden wake-up call to pay him too much attention. Besides, he was still naked and she knew that if she turned to look at him she’d forget what made her so annoyed in the first place. His tattoo-riddled body tended to do that to her. 

She brushed her teeth while Harry quickly pulled his clothes on and she peeked out of the room. The coast was clear. Zoey waved him over and he hurriedly snuck passed her, slinking into his room next door to change. Just as Harry had suspected, everyone was already up and finishing breakfast. 

“Oh, Zoey. Good, you’re up. We were just about to wake you,” Nancy grinned, “I guess we just need to wake Harry.”

“I think I heard him talking in his room,” Zoey lied, walking over and helping to get dishes out, “He’ll probably be down soon.”

Sure enough, Harry walked in only minutes later. They took the food outside and talked, but the mood was much different than their previous breakfasts together. Everyone was aware that this was their last breakfast together in Italy. No one was thrilled to be leaving tomorrow morning. Zoey made sure to take extra long looks at the view and tried hard to pay attention to every little thing anyone said or did, scared that she’ll forget this moment. She wanted to take in everything. Every little breeze, scent, change of light when a cloud passed over the sun. She wanted to remember the sounds of the birds mixed with the laughter of her friends and the way the sun cast a golden glow on their cheeks. 

A year ago this wasn’t possible. A year ago she had nothing. No friends, no job, a declining relationship with her boyfriend, in constant pain from the car accident, and saw no hope in her life improving. She had come a long way. And that wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for Jess’s parents and the people she was with. 

She looked over at Harry who was laughing at something her little sister had said and her heart melted, even more, knowing how well he got along with Katie. He even seemed to be on good terms with her parents, having talked to them a few times since being here and hearing them say how well he kept them informed. It seemed weird that he knew her parents without her introducing them, but she wasn’t mad that she got to skip the awkward introductions. 

Then, her mind began to wander. It’s Harry Styles. Harry Styles knows her family. She’s been sleeping with Harry Styles. It doesn’t hit her often that she is friendly with a celebrity, but when it does, it always blows her away, yet she still feels silly for thinking that way. Celebrities shouldn’t be put on a higher pedestal than anyone else. But to her, he was the exception. He just WAS a better person than anyone she’d ever met. And for him to be in his life and know her family was something beyond comprehension.

Was it weird that he knew her family? Was it even weirder that she’d never seen them interact? She never had any intention to introduce her parents to him. She never thought there would be a need. They were only friends, after all. Her parents didn’t need to know everyone she talked to. She had no problem keeping her friendship with Harry a secret. His life was a bit chaotic after all. But things were not getting more serious between them. At least that’s what she thought. 

She began to panic. How was she supposed to act now? Should she talk with her friends and let them in on what’s been going on? Should she talk to Rory? Should she continue to take phone numbers from her patrons at work? Should she be less flirtatious (within reason, because she still needed to get those tips)? What about holidays with family? When they ask her if she’s seeing someone, should she say yes? Would she tell them she had a boyfriend? Did she even have a boyfriend? Would Harry come to Philadelphia for Christmas, or would she go to England? Or would they even celebrate together? 

Maybe she was thinking too much into it. Maybe Harry didn’t want to make things official with her. But if not, why did he act so jealous of Marco and Brett? He couldn’t have her all to himself if he wasn’t going to make things official. She wouldn’t be Rory 2.0. Zoey was certain of her feelings towards Harry. As scary as a relationship with him might seem, she was willing to take the risk. She knew it was too soon to put a label on anything, but she also knew that he needed to figure it out before they got to the point of no return on their friendship. It would be easy to chalk this week up to a ‘crazy vacation high’, but he needed time to process.

The plans for today was to walk around the streets of Italy some more, in a less populated area so that Harry could feel comfortable, and, at 4 PM, they’d go to a vineyard owned by one of his friends for a private tour of the grounds, home-made pizza making, and some wine to end the night. Having a nice, relaxing night sounded like the perfect way to end their vacation.

While on a stroll through a quieter part of the outskirts of the city they found out through online news articles that Harry and Zoey were spotted shopping in Trastevere the day before and even though she was recognized as Rory’s friend and the girl he was spotted with months ago that his fans immediately shot down as ‘just friends’, the tone in the article seemed to be more suspicious this time around since they were seen alone together in a different country together. This admittedly delighted her, although she acted as though it was funny and amusing so her friends wouldn’t catch on. 

There were a few instances while walking along cobblestone paths and stopping at local street vendors that Harry had nearly grabbed her hand. He’d always play it off by just tugging at her arm to show her something or make up a random quip, but it was getting harder and harder to hide their affection which just confused her even more. How, in a matter of a week, did they go from being strictly just best friends to unable to keep their hands off of each other? 

Andy was the only one that seemed suspicious and he made it obvious that he was onto them as they dragged behind the rest of the group, linking arms and sipping some tea as they strolled. 

“Don’t think I don’t see the eyes you two are making at each other,” he whispered, “You wanna tell me anything?”

Zoey took a sip of her tea, desperately trying to regulate her breathing and avoid blushing, “No, I still have no clue what’s going on,” she admitted, not entirely lying, though failing to explain everything. She needed to talk to someone about this. Normally she’d talk to Harry, but seeing as though it was about him and every time she tried to talk he was every bit as confused as her, it wasn’t much of a help. She’d told herself she wasn’t going to nag him but would need to see how everything played out once they got home and had time to think separately.

The day continued as normal and the group made a brief stop back at the house to drop off the items they had purchased on their outing before heading over to Harry’s friend’s vineyard for the tour and pizza making. After the few incidents where Harry almost grabbed Zoey’s hand, he made a conscious effort to avoid being near her and stuck beside Nancy and Rory for most of the shopping trip and even during the tour of the ground, terrified he’d make Zoey uncomfortable by making his interest in her too obvious while still being concerned that he was moving too fast or making the wrong decision in trying to pursue his best friend. A voice in the back of his head kept repeating, ‘This isn’t going to work’ over and over again as it did with any new development in his love-life. 

Occasional glances over at Zoey who listened intently during the tour while laughing and smiling with Katie and Andy made his heart flutter. Every time he looked at her she seemed to radiate warmth from within that hypnotized him and he found that he needed to forcibly pry his gaze from her. How did she do it? How could she completely captivate him without any effort or knowing? 

Once the tour was over they were taken to the main house kitchen and gathered around a large workbench where they began their pizza-making. The Italian man laid out all of the ingredients for the dough and taught them how to properly knead and roll them out. Everyone was laughing at each other. Harry’s wasn’t turning out too badly, but he couldn’t say the same for everyone else. Flour was everywhere by the time toppings were decided upon and they carefully placed their pizza in the wood-burning oven and were given the okay to wander the house and grounds by the owner while their pizzas cooked. 

Andy and Rory headed in the direction of the front yard while Nancy, Katie, and Zoey headed towards the back gardens. Harry quickly caught up to them, tugging at the back of Zoey’s dress. She turned, still smiling at something Nancy had said, and her eyebrows raised at the sight of Harry.

“Oh, hey. Long time no see,” she joked, and he knew she was referring to him practically avoiding her all day, “Are you joining us?”

“Uh….yeah,” he stuttered, noticing Nancy and Katie’s eyes on him now. 

They continued walking further into the garden, different types of trees spacing out between batches of rose bushes and other foliage. He wanted to talk to her alone, but he didn’t know how to make it too obvious. Luckily, like always, she seemed to know what he was thinking and dragged behind her roommate and sister while Katie talked some more about her friends at home and how excited she was to be starting college soon. Nancy was too busy giving her advice and a pep talk to notice.

“You okay?” Zoey whispered, looking up at him with her dazzling navy blue eyes.

Her look seemed to calm him down and he nodded, “Just haven’t spent much time with you today. I’m going to miss this when we leave tomorrow.”

Zoey nodded solemnly, glancing to make sure her sister and her roommate were still too preoccupied, “I’m kind of sad that it’s over. It feels like all of this is ending.”

“All of what? The vacation, or…?” Harry trailed, but by the look she gave him, he understood it to mean whatever was happening between the two of them. And he couldn't lie, he was afraid to leave for that very reason. He wanted to stay in his little vacation bubble where he and Zoey could continue what they were doing without too much fear of the outside world interfering, only worrying about their small little friend group finding out. But that’s not how life worked for Harry Styles. It could only be hidden for so long. 

Before he could say anything, a phone began to ring. Katie and Nancy both stopped, reaching in their pockets and pulling out their phones, but it wasn’t them. Zoey looked next and he looked over her shoulder to see ‘Michael’ displayed on the screen. To his satisfaction she declined the call and slipped it back in her pocket, muttering an apology to the two girls when her phone rang again. Harry remembered what she said the last time her ex called while he was in the room. Michael normally didn’t try to reach her multiple times in a row unless it was important, so Harry knew she’d answer.

“Go on, I’m right behind you,” Zoey nodded to them and they continued walking. Harry, though, stayed right by her side. And when she realized he wasn’t going to walk away, she rolled her eyes with a smirk and answered the phone.

“Hey, Mikey. What’s up?” she asked, her voice going up a few octaves. She felt a bit awkward to be talking to her ex-boyfriend while the guy she had been sleeping with was inches away, but she figured the conversation would be quick and he was probably only calling because her birthday had just passed.

“Hey, Zo-bo. Sorry I didn’t call on your birthday. I was trying to avoid reaching out, but I felt like a dickhead,” he laughed.

Zoey chuckled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, “It’s fine.”

“So what did you do? Anything fun?”

“Yeah, I’m actually in Italy right now. My friends surprised me with a trip and flew Katie out, too.”

“Oh, no shit? Italy? That’s amazing and so nice of them.”

“I know, I was so surprised. We head back home tomorrow, I’m sad to be leaving. But I’m glad Katie got to come with.”

“I’ll bet. You’ll have to tell me all about it,” Michael said. And then there was silence. She knew Michael well enough to know that that’s not all he wanted to say. There was something else on his mind that was bothering him and he was trying to find the words. And like clockwork, an uncomfortable muttering began, “So, that’s not the only reason I called.”

His voice sounded serious. More worried. And a lump formed in her throat, afraid of what he was going to say. “Is everything alright?” she asked, warily. But she knew it wasn’t. Something was wrong. Harry seemed to notice her discomfort and so did the two girls as they stopped walking, turning to face her.

“It’s my dad. He, uhm,” his voice was shaky and he tried to hide it by clearing his throat, “His cancer. It spread.”

Zoey’s mouth fell and her heart dropped. This was the last thing she expected to hear. Zoey wasn’t around when Paul had gotten his diagnosis, but he had undergone aggressive treatment right around the time they first started dating. She had seen the toll it had taken on their family and the impact it had on how they treated each other with so much love and respect. It brought them closer together. Paul had an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer and was lucky enough to have been doing well under treatment. And although they were warned that growth was a possibility, she had never expected it to have gotten worse so quickly. It had been five years since the diagnosis, but she was under the impression that he was getting better.

Zoey didn’t know what to say. Throughout their relationship, she had gotten extremely close to Paul. She even called him Pops. The thought of something bad happening to him seemed almost too much to handle. She still wasn’t over Jess’s death, how would she handle Paul? She didn’t want to assume, but by the sound of Michael’s voice, she knew that it was serious. He wouldn’t have called if it wasn’t. And although she didn’t want to ask, she knew she had to.

“How bad is it?” 

Michael cleared his throat again, “They’re giving him three months.”

Zoey’s vision went spotty before it went black and her knees trembled, grabbing onto Harry’s arm so she wouldn’t fall. Instinctively Nancy and Katie lunged forward, grabbing onto her waist and arms to offer even more support, everyone still unsure what was going on. So many questions ran through her mind. How? How did it come back so quickly? How did they not catch it sooner? How had it become so aggressive that he was only given three months to live? Had he not been going to his appointments like he was meant to? Knowing how stubborn Paul was, she considered that likely.

“He’s here if you want to talk to him,” Michael offered.

“Yes. Please,” Zoey said, regaining her strength and standing up straighter.

Harry, Nancy, and Katie shared concerned and unsure glances at each other until Zoey spoke again, her voice changing tones, more childlike and warry, “Hey, Pops. How are you feeling?”

Harry noticed Katie’s expression change. She no longer seemed confused, but her concern only seemed to grow. Pops? Who was Pops? She knew that’s not what she called her dad, and only one of her grandfathers was alive who she called Grandpa. Besides, why would Michael be with her family? He could see the beads of water forming at her waterline and worried what was going on. Whatever it was, it wasn’t good news. He tried his best to listen as Zoey continued to speak.

“Thank you, yes I’m having a great time...I know, I’m sorry it’s been so long….I miss you, too….”

She was trying her best to put on a brave tone, but Harry heard the cracks in her voice. It was hard to be jealous of whatever kind of relationship she had with Michael and whoever ‘Pops’ was when she was so obviously distressed.

“Yes, I’m supposed to be leaving for LA tomorrow, but I can change my flights and head back home with my sister….No, don’t worry about it, I’m sure my boss will understand….I love you, too, Pops….Yes, go get some rest, could you put Mikey back on the phone?.... Okay, I’ll see you soon.”

What could be so bad that she had to change flights and go back to Philadelphia? Harry tried to search Katie’s eyes, attempting to see any hint or clue of what was going on, but it didn’t seem to have the same impact that it did with Zoey. He could almost always tell what Zoey was thinking, but it didn’t work for her sister. 

Zoey updated Michael on her plan to change flights and head back home, “She’s not supposed to be landing until 10 PM tomorrow, but I can come over first thing the following morning.”

“Okay, sounds good. I’m sorry for all of this. I didn’t mean to ruin your vacation.”

“Stop, you didn’t ruin anything. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.”

“Thanks,” he sniffled. “Is Katie there with you?”

“Yeah, she’s right here.”

“Maybe I should let her know what’s going on. Can I talk to her?”

Zoey knew that Michael and Katie kept in contact. Even though they weren’t super close to begin with, he was still a part of her life for a long time and always treated her nicely, bringing her little gifts for valentines day or Christmas so that she’d feel special, and always talking to her like an adult, which Katie always appreciated, especially considering their parents treated her like a child. 

Zoey extended her phone towards her sister and Katie quickly grabbed it, pulling it to her ear, “How bad is it?” she immediately asked. Katie was smart. She knew what was going on. 

A small gasp was audible as she listened to Michael speak and Zoey looked up into Harry’s eyes. There it was. The spark he always had with her that let him read her mind. He knew she wanted to talk to him alone. It was something that she couldn’t have an audience for. Nancy seemed to understand that this was serious, and she knew that Zoey only felt comfortable talking to Harry about serious things, so she nodded and whisked Katie away to give the two of them some privacy. His heart ached for her. Whatever it was breaking her heart and although he didn’t know what was going on, he knew that she was going through more in such a short period than most people can handle.

What do you think are the most underrated glee songs? Like, they’re awesome and why doesn’t fandom love them more?

Oh this is such a neat ask! Let’s see, I think I’m going to list performances that I think are pretty good, but I don’t see people talking about as much.  You’re not going to see much Klaine on this list -- mostly, at least around these parts, I think their performances do get the recognition they deserve.  

Season 1: 

Push It (Showmance) - It’s really quite funny

Bust Your Windows (Acafellas) - Mercedes first gets to shine

Maybe This Time (Rhodes Not Taken) - Lea and Kristen Chenoweth kill this one. 

Dancing With Myself (Wheels) - I just like this Artie solo

Smile (Mattress) - I think both versions in the episode are pretty good, and one is a rare Finchel duet I enjoy

Hello (Hello) - Lea and Jonathan Groff are amazing together

Open Your Heart/Borderline (Power of Madonna) - I just wanna talk about all the Madonnas in the hallway

4 Minutes (Power of Madonna) - Kurt and Mercedes get their sexy on, and I don’t feel like that’s appreciated enough

Run Joey Run (Bad Reputation) - I mean, you guys, this might be one of the funniest things they show ever did, and the fact that the point was missed by so many made sure the show rarely did straight up comedy numbers again

Dream a Little Dream of Me (Dream On) - Artie w/Tina and Mike dancing, it’s cute and bittersweet

Season 2 

Sing (Duets) - It’s a super cute duet between Tina and Mike

Forget You (The Substitute) - Idec that it’s Holly, I love this one

Make ‘Em Laugh (The Substitute) - I don’t think Matthew Morrison gets enough credit for how talented he is.  

Just the Way You Are (Furt) - I’m not a huge fan of Finn’s singing - so I kinda of like to acknowledge when he does a good job, and I really like this one. 

The Living Years (Special Education) - The Hipsters rock it, man

Only Child (Original Song) - It is what is, okay?! 

Jesus is My Friend (Original Song) - I’m giggling just thinking about it

Bubble Toes (Night of Neglect) - Mike’s dance number is fantastic

Ain’t Now Way (Night of Neglect) - Merecedes’ numbers end up in the worst episodes, and it’s a shame, because sometimes they get overlooked. 

I’ve Gotta Be Me (Born This Way) - this song gets forgotten among the true gems during this episode, but it’s a nice Finn and Mike number

Nice To Meet You, Have I Slept With You (Rumours) - This is another hilarious original song done by April and Will often forgotten. 

Friday (Prom Queen) - As a boy band song, it really works

Season 3

Anything Goes/Anything You Can Do (The Purple Piano Project) - it’s truly amazing -- especially for an unknown guest start that’s basically one and done. 

Spotlight (Asian F) - Another Mercedes solo that I think flies under the radar. 

You and I (Mash Off) - Will and Shelby duet, the adult stuff often gets overlooked I think. 

We Are Young (Hold Onto 16) - It was probably over played on the radio at the time, but I think they did a fantastic job with the cover, and it works well as a group number. 

We Found Love (Yes/No) - Wemma gets a bad rap a lot of the times, but I think this actually really works, and is a nice scene

The Rain in Spain (Choke) - You guys, it’s a heavy metal cover of a classic song, I’m not the only one who finds that hilarious, right? 

Mean (Props) - Beiste and Puck singing a duet that fits their story well, but since we don’t talk about these storylines much, this rarely comes up. 

Starships (Nationals) - Unique is on fire, and I liked VA’s set more than ND’s.

Season 4

Call Me Maybe (The New Rachel) - idec, I love it and find it amazing and it energizes me, shut up. 

Busters Get Popped (The New Rachel) - still giggling

Chasing Pavements (The New Rachel) - I think Melissa Benoist got a raw deal having to be paired against Lea Michele, but I think she has a lovely voice, and really brings this one alive.  

Everybody Talks (Role You Were Born to Play) - it’s a nice song and a nice duet between Kitty and Jake

Whistle (Thanksgiving) - okay it’s not a good song, but my god does it make me laugh every time I hear it

O Holy Night (Swan Song) - Clearly, I’m not putting Rachel songs on this list, but this one -- I’m giving her this one.  This is beautiful and fantastic in all the right ways, and one of my favorite Rachel solos of the series.  One of the few times she’s not over emoting a serious song, and it’s a nice relief. 

Don’t Dream It’s Over (Swan Song) - It’s a bittersweet song that I think really works for the tone of the moment.  

Torn (Naked) - what another Rachel solo?? Yeah, visually, the duet with herself is really striking

Not Getting Married Today (I Do) - Let’s give Jayma Mays a second of recognition for her ability to do this one.   

You’re All the World to Me (Girls and Boys on Film) - Will and Emma duet that is notable for the choreography alone

How to Be a Heartbreaker (Feud) - the cinematography and choreography is unlike anything else on the show, so I find it fascinating. 

I Still Believe/Superbass (Feud) - I mean, let’s give Jane Lynch credit for spoofing Nikki Minaj, I mean, c’mon

Everybody Hurts (Lights Out) - I don’t like Ryder, and I really don’t like the actor who portrays him, but this acoustic version of the song is really fantastic. 

Superstition (Wonderful) - Mercedes, Blaine, and Marley on this Stevie Wonder classic that, again, flies under the radar a bit

Rainbow Connection (All or Nothing) - Glee snuck in a cover done by a third party participant at Regionals that’s really good, and you probably didn’t even know it. 

Season 5

If I Were a Boy (End of Twerk) - A lot of the newbie stuff gets (understandably) overlooked, but Unique’s version of this is emotional and haunting and often forgotten about

What The Fox Says (Puppet Master) - I don’t think this is as bad as everyone would have you believe.  

Away In a Manager (Previously Unaired Christmas) - I rarely give props to this episode for anything, but this was really well done, and the only song from this episode that I’ll listen to. 

Don’t Rain on My Parade (Frenemies) - Yes, it’s a jazzier/pop version of the song, but I think Santana does better with it than people give her credit for. 

Hold On (Trio) - I freakin’ love this group number.  It’s amazing. 

Toxic/Defying Gravity/Valerie (100) - lumping them together because I actually enjoy all of these better than the originals.  Oops. 

Loser Like Me (New Directions) - Yes, the lyrics are terrible, but I love this arrangement of it

LoveFool (Opening Night) - Omg, another Rachel solo - this one is also hilarious

Season 6

Tightrope (Homecoming) - Jane can really sing, these new newbies bring it

Home (Homecoming) - I think it’s a super tight group number that doesn’t get mentioned often, but really works. 

Bitch (Hurt Locker 1) - There has never been a more perfect Sue song.  Not sure if it’s underrated? But wanted to point out that it’s notable. 

At Last (A Wedding) - really the best part of that ceremony 

The Final Countdown (Rise and Fall of Sue Sylvester) - It’s nice that they included one last comedic performance

Listen to Your Heart (We Built This Glee Club) - I’m glad Rachel and Jesse got one last number together

Take Me to Church/Chandelier/Come Sail Away (We Built This Glee Club) - I think the New New Directions last competition set list was pretty good! 

So, uh, yeah - didn’t see it on here? I probably really loved it and everyone knows that or I don’t think it’s that great to be remember, lol

notes: the first part is sebastian, the second is tom (i’ve put their names as to not confuse you), i dunno why i don’t wanna put this into two parts, anyways, both are under the cut

notes: this is the third and final part of the perspectives series (the picnic in the park and tent stories). thanks to @darlingtholland​ for the idea of what kind of ending to write

summary: so, who did you choose? mr. stan? or mr. holland?

SEBASTIAN

Camping time. It was around eight PM, it was already dark. Unfortunately, it was also raining…hard.

You were stuck in your tent with a flashlight in hand, a book on the floor and you lying on your stomach. It was the classic IT novel by Stephen King and you were hooked. You loved to scare yourself silly all the time. Although you had your lamp on, you had it on low to set the mood.

“What are you doing alone in the dark?”

You screamed at the voice. Pointing the flashlight at where the source was coming from, you cried out in frustration, “What the fuck, Sebastian!?”

He climbed inside the tent, careful to take off his wet shoes. “I didn’t do shit,” he said with a laugh. “You’re the one scaring yourself.”

“Ugh,” you groaned. “What are you doing here?”

“I thought you might be missing me.”

You looked at him with a small smile. “How did you know?”

He rolled his eyes. “Everyone misses me.”

This time, you rolled her eyes and shook her head. “Help yourself to some snacks,” you said as you turned back to your book, “I can even read to you if you want. So I’m not the only one scared when it’s time to go to sleep.”

“You know I don’t believe in that crap.” He rummaged through the bag in search of something he’d like. “You and Chris should go scare yourselves shitless.”

“Oh, so now you’re setting me up with Evans?” You smirked.

“I’m not setting you up with anyone,” he corrected. “Why should I when I want you all for myself, doll.”

You scoffed. “And you know I want Tom all for myself.”

“Don’t you?”

You sighed, turned off the flashlight and lit the tent brighter with the lamp. You placed a bookmark on your page and closed the thick book. “I don’t know anymore,” your replied, drawing circles around the cover with your index finger. “I’m…I think…I’ve re-assessed my feelings for him.”

“Oh?” He munched on an apple before continuing, “And what have you realized?”

You shook your head. “No, it’s nothing. It’s stupid.”

“Hm? No, come on, tell me. I’m your best friend.”

“…maybe I want more than that,” you whispered. You sat up and crossed your legs, arms leaning on the floor behind you to support you.

Sebastian stopped eating. “Sorry, I don’t think I heard you right, Y/N.”

“You heard me,” you said.

“I didn’t.”

“You heard me,” you forced.

“Say it again.”

“…maybe I want to be more than best friends,” you repeated. “With you. Maybe I want to be more than best friends with you.”

“What about Tom? You’ve been pining for him for so long.”

You gave a dry laugh. “You’re right, I guess I should just go back to who I was really out for. Sorry, Seb. I made a fool of myself.”

Sebastian groaned. “Y/N, stop that.”

“I’m not doing anything?”

He shook his head. “You have no idea how much I’ve wanted you…for so long, too.”

You snapped her head back. “I’m…so…sorry?”

“Fuck I love you.” He dropped his apple, grabbed her chin and kissed her. It took awhile before you could respond. When you let go for air, he said, “I’ve been watching you watch someone else for so long.”

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

He shrugged. “You seemed to really like him.”

You laughed. He liked hearing it. You cradled his face with your hands and said, “Big tent, told you it would come in handy.”

He hummed. “And what did you say then? Who said anything about sleeping?”

She laughed once more. “Yeah, we’re going to read IT.”

TOM

You blushed. “I’m sorry, Tom. I was surprised, that’s all. Sorry, I didn’t mean to be so snappy.”

“It’s fine, don’t worry about it,” he said. It was still raining hard and he was under his umbrella. You instructed him to get in and out of the rain which he obliged. He took off his shoes and crawled in. “So…”

“Help yourself to some snacks.” You gestured towards the bag.

“Oh, thank you.” Tom looked at the bag and found an apple. “Apple?”

“Go ahead.” You bookmarked the page you were in, turned off the flashlight and lit the tent more with the lamp. “Did you want to talk about something?” you asked as you sat up, crossing your legs and letting your arms rest on the ground behind you, supporting you.

“Uh…I just wanted to see how you’re doing. It’s raining pretty hard and this is your first time camping, isn’t it?”

“It is, yeah. But I’m doing good. Not every first is perfect.” You shrugged. “How about you? How are you doing?”

“Good, good.” He nodded. “What book are you reading?” He took a bite from the apple as he waited for your reply.

You raised the book and answered, “Stephen King’s IT.”

“Classic. Have you watched the first film adaptation?”

“Not yet. Though I do like Tim Curry. I think he’s a decent actor. But the second film adaptation was definitely scary. I’m excited for the chapter 2, but based on the trailer, I think the first is scarier since their kids.”

Tom nodded once again. “I’ve only seen the new one and it’s pretty well done.”

“Do you have plans on reading the book? I can lend this to you when I’m done. It’s really long but I think it’s worth it.”

He smiled. “Yeah, I’d like that. But um…I really did come here to talk to you about something. About these um…rumors I’ve been hearing about. About your feelings for me. I don’t know if they’re true but…”

“I like you,” you blurted out.

“Oh.”

“I really like you.”

“What about Sebastian?”

“He’s my best friend. Nothing more.”

“Are you sure?”

Y/N paused. “…depends on your answer.”

Tom chuckled. “Well, if you’re not sure how else am I going to confess that I like you a lot, too.”

Your eyes widened. “What?”

“You heard me.”

“Is that true?”

“I wouldn’t lie to you.”

You let out a breath. “Wow.”

“Can I give you a kiss?”

You didn’t respond. You launched yourself forward and kissed him. “God, I’ve been waiting for this for so long.”

“So have I,” he admitted. “Why didn’t you say anything?”

“You didn’t seem very interested.”

“I was, and still am, very interested. But I thought there was something between you and Seb. I remember how close you guys were when you were buying this tent. But anyways, what did you say then? Who said anything about sleeping?”

You laughed once more. “Yeah, we’re going to read IT.”

Imagine during a game in an interview your costar and good friend, Tom, accidentally revealing that Jake has feelings for you and has been meaning to ask you out for a long time.

“Uhm super cool, super famous for this character, acts a lot like that character. Is- is really funny. You hang out with him a lot.” Jake tried to say as fast as he could, making sure to glance down at the words he couldn't use right before glancing at the clock ticking. He loved games during interviews but this did seems like the most stressful one of the entire day.

“Uhm I'm-”

“Like a lot of time! In- in your previous movie. In that movie you'd spent a lot of time with-”

“Jacob Batalon! Jacob! J-” Tom said just as fast but Jake shook his head.

“No, no. Not Jacob. He's a lot like- like his character. He is his character. I've- I've worked before with him in a movie! I've worked with him!” he emphasized as much as he could but all Tom did was stare at him with parted lips and an awkward smile because he couldn't get it. “Oh my God.” Jake shook his head “Come on you know him. You- you admire him a lot, you look up to him!”

“Samuel... L Jackson?” Tom asked tentatively in an almost squeaky voice and instantly laughed when Jake gave him a blank face.

“I can't believe you don't get this one. I thought you'd get it from the first second and you-” he shook his head “His character is very smart a-and an all-time-favorite. He's- Oh Magneto has a total advantage against this guy because of his suit and he'd-”

“Oh oh Iron Man! Iron Man!”

“Yeah, the actor?!” Jake insisted because it still wasn't the right answer and no point would be given for that.

“Robert Downey Jr! Robert Do-” but he stopped when the buzzing was heard, signaling that time was up “Did that point count? That one had to count, right?” he asked and when he got a nod of approval he relaxed and both men managed let a long sigh.

“This round was so stressful. So so stressful. And you-” Jake looked at Tom “How could you not get that?! I literally had to pull other Marvel characters into this and you're so lucky. Because if it wasn't for (Y/n) dragging my ass to see all the movies, there would be no clue. Up until three months ago I didn't know him!”

“This is so incredibly embarrassing, I know.” Tom shook his head.

“Dude he's so going to disown you! You are so already disowned.” Jake muttered and Tom laughed even more as they prepared for the third round.

“I am. I am! Alright-” Tom cleared his throat “So it is my turn to start now, right?”

“Yes. Tom you will go first. You will take turns as before. But since this is the final round to determine the winner, you will each have to present three MCU actors to the other before switching turns. Got it?” Jimmy waited for the nods as he gave the right instructions, both men straightening their backs “Alright, and your time starts- Now!”

Tom grabbed a card fast, looking at the person and all the words he couldn't use to describe the person. Although it was very easy anything “I uh ok ok I got this. This person is your favorite superhero of all of times! Super cool, you love the character to the point you have posters of them on your room and-”

“(Y/s/n)!” Jake cut Tom off, saying really fast “It's gotta be (Y/s/n)!”

“N-no I'm-” Tom laughed, shaking his head “I don't mean literally. It's sarcastically! Sarcastically! Because you think this hero is a total asshole and jack-”

“Oh Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool!” again incredibly fast but Tom still laughed as he set the card aside and tried to get a new one “If you meant it as a joke why didn't you say it man?”

“Dude you answered that one so fast! I can't believe it. I couldn't stop you though! (Y/s/n) (Y/s/n)!” he laughed, mimicking Jake before shaking his head and looking down at the next card before stopping mid-movement and looking up at Jake with narrowed eyes “Wait- do you really have posters of her on your room?”

Jake paused for a second too, neither of them really caring about the time at this point and looked straight at the camera mumbling a very hesitant and slow “...No?”

“Oh my God you totally do! I can actually picture that! This is priceless, really.” Tom laughed more and Jake himself let a chuckle “Oh ok this one, you'll get right away... I hope. She's uhm incredibly sweet and nice to everyone. She's- She's been in lots of MCU movies, from- from the very beginning to-- Ah can't say movie titles. Uhm also very well-known for this MCU role of hers b-but has many awards and has been part of many big movies. She's- She's-”

“Uh Gwyneth Paltrow?” Jake asked slowly with a frown.

“No no! Although she's been in just as many movies. She's an Avenger. She's actually the strongest Avenger! She's been like a co-leader next to Iron Man and will lead the next phase of the MCU.” he said so fast he wasn't sure Jake had actually head each and every word. But the blank stare he got in return he was sure couldn't just be attributed to Jake not having managed to hear everything or still trying to process it, but the fact that he had no single clue.

“Wh-what? More clues, dude, more clues!” Jake urged “I just don't get it! Things don't add up!”

“They do, you just haven't thought about her yet. That's why!” Tom nearly exclaimed before looking back down at the card again “Come on man. You're supposed to get this in, like, 0.5 seconds.”

“So were you when it was Robert!” Jake protested “Come on, time's running out! Hurry up!”

“Ok ok!” Tom said nearly in panic but certainly in a rush “Her character is super awesome when she fights and she gets to do lots of her stunts on her own and every time you see her you actually forget to breathe! To the point you scared me so much once! You spend so much time together, in and out of set, which earns a lot of teasing from Ryan as you've told me! You always get her coffee in the morning when we're filming even before you get for yourself. You buy her food and arrange movie nights because you love spending time with her more than with anyone else. You once bought flowers for her but were too embarrassed to give them to her so you ended up lying, all blushing, that they were for me and I ended up getting them. You- you- For God's sake you're in love with her! You've been wanting to ask her out for months now and you've-” but the next few words only came out muffled.

“Aah! Ah!” Jake exclaimed, eyes impossibly wide as he looked mortified to say the least. He clapped a hand over Tom's mouth “I get it! I get it! I know which one you're talking about and now the rest of the world will too. Thank you very much, Tom! Thank you!” his voice was dripping with sarcasm as Tom's own eyes widened when he realized his slip up.

“The moment you realize spoilers is the least harmful thing that can come out of his mouth! It's a really painful moment, let me tell you.” Jake said, looking directly at the camera before shaking his head and letting his hand drop. He rubbed his eyes and let out a heavy sigh “Man I wish it was a spoiler now.”

Tom laughed nervously just as much as apologetically before speaking almost in alow voice “I- I just said the first thing that came to my mind. It's not my fault that you wouldn't get I was talking about... you know.”

“Yeah, I know Tom, I know! I have no doubt who it is now.” he nearly threw his arms in the air and looked back at his friend and costar “Oh my God, how am I even going to say this? This is embarrassing now!”

“You'll have to, if- if you want to win this game or at least have a chance at winning you have to-” but Tom stopped when Jake shot him a look, only to end up chuckling a couple seconds later “Dude I'm so sorry! But you know, there is a chance she might... might not be watching this?” his voice came out a bit squeaky and then they both laughed at it.

“Oh man.” Jake dragged a hand down his face “I- I don't even think I really want to give an answer now. I won't- Oh dear, I won't survive this!”

“Come on man, you have to decide! Either you say it or not. If you say it you have a chance at winning, if not then you don't.” Tom said urgently.

“This won't end well. This won't end well!”

“Come on Jake, you know the answer!” once more he pushed “Say it or not?”

“What's the point?! She has by now already figured everything out!”

“W-well, yeah, but at least you could win the game!”

“I'm done. I'm so done. This is over for me. Oh Gosh. If I say this then I verify everything and--”

“You have to decide between keeping this a secret or just say it and have a chance!” Tom urged once more, glancing a the clock “Time's running out, Jake! It's ticking, it's almost up! Come you might not even make it to-”

“Oh my God, it's (Y/n)! Ok? (Y/n) (Y/l/n)!” Jake nearly yelled, the urgency in Tom's voice along with the pressure of the clock ticking and time running out. He let out a heavy sigh, head lowering before he dared face up again, face very serious “The embarrassment of this is not going to die out soon. Man, I tell you, this game is fixed. It's totally fixed.” at this point he was talking mostly to himself and shaking his head while rubbing his eyes.

“H-hey” Tom couldn't hold back his own laughter “That was a very brave thing to do, man. There are a couple more seconds if you wanna try-”

“Do you think I really wanna try now? Look at me and tell me, do I look like I wanna keep going?” he faced his friend who grinned a bit nervously.

“N-no. No, I wouldn't say you do.” he shook his head, looking away as he placed the cards down with his lips pulled in a thin line.

“This better be considered me winning the whole freaking game!” Jake said playfully, letting out a small laugh to lighten the mood even if on the inside he was probably dying a bit... a lot “The whole thing!”

“I agree, I agree. Jake is absolutely the winner. Takes real courage to do that after what just left my mouth. And even more for the fight he put up to not kill me!” Tom said with a small laugh.

“Oh trust me, that's the most surprising part of it all for me too!”

“It's alright, you won the game and we can say you won the girl too.
