Lemme help with those Hockey AUs...
👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽👨🏽
🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒
Kenna I knew I could count on you.
39 for 👨🏽(ps this fic was inspired by your manip of hockey player Eddie with a moustache)
Where Buck’s mustache is still pretty light, Eddie’s is dark and lush and honestly, Buck wants to put his mouth on it.
Which is not the way he’s supposed to think about his teammate.
Even if that teammate is also Buck’s secret husband. Emphasis on the secret part. While they were out to the team and their family and friends, they weren’t out publicly at the advice of their agent and the Kings front office.
But Buck might accidentally out them this November if he didn’t get himself under control. It was just, Eddie looked kind of insanely hot with a mustache. This wasn't the first November he’d known Eddie, in fact this wasn’t even the first November where he’d been in a relationship with Eddie. It was just, this November something seemed different.
“Why are you staring at me,” Eddie asked with a laugh on November 5th. His mustache was already looking thick and sexy, unlike Buck’s which was still a little patchy and definitely too blond to look good right now.
“I like the mustache,” Buck said with a shrug, trying (and failing) to sound casual about it.
“Oh, you do?” Eddie stopped buttoning his shirt so he could turn around and look at Buck directly instead of in the mirror.
“Y-yeah,” Buck couldn’t take his eyes off of it and here in the safety of their bedroom he was allowed to look, so why should he stop.
“If you managed to keep out of the box tonight, I’ll let you do whatever you want to my mustache.”
“Whatever I want?”
“Well, within reason,” Eddie laughed. “We have to get on a plane and fly to Boston tomorrow morning.”
“Okay, I can stay out of the box,” Buck said confidently, even though there was a very good chance he was lying. It wasn’t his fault they were playing the Ducks. Everyone knew the Ducks sucked, that was just a fact of life. The sky is blue. Eddie Diaz is the love of Evan Buckley’s life. The Ducks stopped being cool in 2006 when they changed their name from the Mighty Ducks to just the Ducks.
“I’ll believe it when I see it,” Eddie laughed and pressed a kiss to Buck’s mouth. Buck had expected the mustache to tickle, but he found he actually liked the feeling of it against his skin. Oh god, did he have a mustache kink that had somehow only now unlocked in him?
(He didn’t manage to stay out of the box, but Eddie let it slide because Buck had only gotten thrown in the box after he’d dropped gloves with Jonah Greenway after he ran Chimney in the crease.)
“Someone on Twitter called Eddie’s mustache the gayest thing they’ve ever seen in the NHL and, this is a direct quote, that’s impressive because hockey is the most homoerotic sport to ever exist,” Chimney said on November 13th. They were on the world’s shortest flight from Long Island to Philly and Chimney was entertaining them by reading funny tweets about the team.
“Everything I do is gay,” Eddie said without opening his eyes. He’d played over thirty-five minutes in their game the night before after Millsy had blocked a shot with his face, so Eddie was so exhausted that Buck could feel it radiating off of him.
It wasn’t like Buck hadn’t played an extra few minutes last night too, but Eddie was a left handed defenceman and so was Millsy, so Eddie had done a lot of double shifting. It had paid off, they’d won the game by one goal.
“Is your mustache this season extra glorious and sexy this year because you’re fully embracing your gay-ness?” Chimney asked and coming from anyone else Buck knew Eddie would have been a little annoyed, but Chimney was - well he was Chimney. He was always in their corner even when he was pissed at them.
“Probably,” Eddie smiled, eyes still closed. “Maybe I’ll dress up as Freddie Mercury and post a picture saying we have more than just a mustache in common.”
Buck’s brain short circuited for a second at the mental image of Eddie dressed up like Freddie Mercury, but he was thankfully pulled from that thought before it got not safe for work when Chimney spoke again.
and 39 for 🏒 under the cut
They’re tied 1-1 in the third period against the Ducks when Buck lays a hit on Smith along the boards in the natural zone, knocking him off the puck long enough for Eddie and his fucking beautiful hands to gain possession. Buck grins at Smith as he pushes off of him and follows behind his defense partner, entering the zone two seconds after him. Buck back checks the Duck’s defender that’s coming up behind him to keep him away from the puck and give Eddie another second to put the puck on net.
And here’s the thing, Buck knows their team is good - they’re the second best team in the western conference right now. It’s like Eddie was the missing piece they’d needed to really take them up to the next level, but in the middle of a game he isn’t thinking about that. All he’s thinking about is that he needs to give the guys the best chance they have to score. Eddie sends the puck back to Mateo and screens the goalie as Mateo passes the puck to Buck at the point to reset the play.
It’s like it happens in slow motion - Buck takes a shot from the point, not because he thinks he’s going to score, but because he wants to get the puck to the net so they can try to score on the rebound. Except the rebound doesn’t come. Instead, Eddie tips Buck’s shot, redirecting it over Gibson’s shoulder on his stick side, sending the puck into the back of the net.
The ref signals that it’s a goal and before the horn can sound, Eddie is on him, practically tackling him to the ice in celebration. Buck wraps his arms around Eddie on instinct, holding him close as TK, Paul, and Mateo crash into them.
"You're a fucking beauty, Buckley," Eddie says, his mouth pressed against Buck neck in a hug.
They manage to hold onto the lead and when Chim insists on taking everyone out for a drink after because they held onto the lead and didn’t let their defensive play slip even when they were winning. Buck says yes without second thought. He’s expecting most of the younger guys to come out with them, the ones without wives and girlfriends at home. The ones without kids waiting for them.
He’s expecting Eddie to say he needs to get home to Chris. He isn’t expecting Eddie to say, “I’m in.”
“Is Carla staying late?” Buck asks quietly as they change after cooling down and showering.
“Shannon’s got him tonight,” Eddie says just as quietly. Buck’s pretty sure the only other person who knows about Eddie’s complicated relationship with his ex is Coach, for some reason being in on that secret, to have earned that kind of confidence from Eddie, makes Buck warm all over.
“Well then it’s dad’s night out, huh?” Buck grins and slings an arm around Eddie’s shoulders even though they both smell fucking rank and they should really hit the showers.
“There aren’t many nights where we win, we don’t have a game for five whole days, and I don’t have to rush home to relieve the babysitter,” Eddie grins right back. “Let’s go get fucking hammered, Buck.”
They’re in the locker room surrounded by their teammates. There’s at least two reporters in the room with them right now. Buck can see Ravi has his phone out and is probably live on Instagram. None of it matters, not with the way Eddie’s smiling at him. Not with the way Eddie pulls Buck into his orbit and keeps him there whenever he’s in the room.
“I-I think everyone is going to get hammered,” Buck says, eyes on Eddie’s mouth because he can’t seem to stop himself.
“Yeah, but I’ll be doing it with you,” Eddie says and then he ducks out from under Buck’s arm with a laugh. “Come on, we gotta shower. I bet you smell worse than Sid’s lucky jock.”

buck knows it can't be that big of a surprise to anyone, not really. not when he's only ever laughed at the jokes, never corrected anybody. he's half dreading it, telling the team. they're his family. they mean everything in the world to him, but, god, what if they knew. what if they knew all along this part of him that was too dark to look at, the dusty corner of the attic no one ever even shines a flashlight on in fear of what they'll find. it's not that buck decided to shine a flashlight, either. it was more like watching eddie smile at tommy and laugh at his (frankly very unfunny, thanks) joke made the whole room flood with bright, fluorescent light. it was kind of impossible to keep his eyes from drifting to it. to that attraction that was always there, always buzzing just under the surface of his skin.
sometimes he wonders if all the scrapes and cuts and scars, all the time he purposefully threw his body against the asphalt weren't just to get his parents attention. maybe he thought if he could give it a way out, the thrumming would leave and his heart would settle.
he spent an hour this morning and two hours last staring at himself in the mirror, repeating the word over and over and over. he spent the night before last avoiding his reflection altogether, terrified he wouldn't recognize the man looking back.
like it's some shocking revelation, this, and not the slow build of realization that's been coming for as long as he can remember.
and that's the thing, right? because buck can't blame his friends if they all laugh and pat him on the back and say i knew it, because it's not like he was totally unaware either. purposefully ignorant? yes. oblivious, though?
probably not as much as maddie might think.
his plan is to not say anything. to hold the word close to his chest for as long as possible but it's like his friends have fucking phd's in how to read him and his body language, and they're gently poking and prodding and pleading for him to open up.
hen's eyes are brighter than normal and chimney's smile is earnest and bobby's got his 'caring dad' face on and eddie's so beautiful when he smiles at him encouragingly he almost screams.
the words spill out before he can stop them. i'm bi. buck's eyes screw shut.
a hand falls lands on top of his, fingers squeezing. when he looks up, hen is grinning, and, jesus fuck, she looks so proud of him. buck didn't consider that as a possibility. that people would look at him with pride. that they'd thank him for his vulnerability, for trusting them, that he'd get pulled into teary eyed hugs. it's not some sort of new phenomenon — evan buckley assuming the worst — but it catches him off guard more than it usually does.
eddie hangs back. buck feels his absence like someone carved the emptiness out of him. he's on edge, a weird, jittery distance between the two of them for the rest of the shift. buck doesn't run into the fire without gear and let the flames overtake him but it's a near thing. eddie keeps looking at him, though. like there are words he doesn't know how to form and it makes something bubble in his chest. not quite hope because buck's not foolish enough to assume eddie would ever want him like that. the way buck's starting to realize he does.
and, oh god, does he.
but then the day ends and buck's lacing up his sneakers in the locker room and eddie's dressed but he's lingering, checking his watch thirty times in a minute. chimney heads out, pats on their backs, a wink and wide smile in buck's direction. buck gets up, throws his bag over his shoulder.
eddie stutters in his movements like he doesn't know if he's gonna allow himself to follow through with them, but then strong arms are wrapping themselves around buck, holding him so tight it almost feels like he can't breathe.
somehow, inexplicably, it also feels like he's exhaling for the first time.
"i'm proud of you, buck. i love you, you know that?" eddie says as they pull away, words a little awkward with their disuse but so genuine his heart twists painfully in his chest.
yeah, buck wants to say. almost does. but not how i want you to.

Bobby's Advice to Eddie in 6x17 is Buddie-Coded
Eddie's decision to go on a date with Marisol at the end of 6x18 does not jive with the advice Bobby gave him in their talk at the hardware store in 6x17. I believe what Bobby said holds significance and will eventually still come into play.
Tumblr media
Early in the 6x17 episode, when the 118 are on their way to a call, Eddie is teased for his disastrous attempts at finding a date. He says, "I just want what I had when I met Shannon. It was magic."
By the episode's end, Eddie finds himself alone in the hardware store, searching for glue for Christopher's school project when Marisol spots him. "Looking for something?" she asks. She points him to the right glue saying, "Works like magic." Eddie happily replies, "This is exactly what I was looking for." This implies that Eddie associates this chance encounter with Marisol as the "magic" he was looking for that he mentioned to the team—a similarity or familiarity, more of the same.
However, none of this resonates with what Bobby was trying to convey to him earlier in the hardware store - in the very same episode!
The two main points Bobby made to Eddie:
1.) "You can't compare what you had with what you think you're going to have." He advises Eddie to be open to whatever comes, even if it's not what he initially sought. This is evidently contrary to what he finds in Marisol. 2.) Bobby shares how he realized Athena was the one for him. He recalls a tough motorcycle call and how Athena "sat with him."
Who in Eddie's life fits both points 1 and 2 best? Buck! Buck is unlike what Eddie had with Shannon. Buck has been there for Eddie in some of his darkest moments, notably after his breakdown. Buck and Eddie mirror Athena and Bobby's dynamic perfectly when it comes to point 2.
Tumblr media
Bobby seems so eager and attentive to Eddie in this scene, ready to help, hopeful that Eddie will figure something out, yet patient because Eddie hasn't fully connected the dots yet but needs to do so on his own.
The bottom line: Bobby's words carry weight. They mean something. Bobby's wisdom matters. The show wouldn't have included this scene and these words in the script if Bobby's advice meant nothing to the overall story still being written, right? Right?
We know Bobby is somewhat of a mastermind; consider his decision to send Chimney to the academy in 6x14, which ultimately helped both Chim grow as a leader and led to Chim bringing Ravi back to rejoin the 118.
When it comes to Buck and Eddie's relationship, I think Bobby quietly sees something between them that transcends beyond friendship. Something different. Something more. Even if Buck and Eddie haven't fully realized it themselves yet.
Bonus quip from this episode: When Eddie tells the team on the truck, "It was magic," Chimney smirks and says, "So you believe in magic?" (obviously a poke at Eddie's fervent belief that the Universe does not scream), Eddie responds, "I believe in chemistry." And we more than know he and Buck have the ultimate chemistry with each other. ;)

Ok since you talked about conflict: what do you think their arguments will look like!!! (The first one and then perhaps the ones after)
oh i do believe their first fight is messy af!!! Because I think the only time we really have seen conflict between them has been during the Lawsuit era, which was so long ago and relatively early in their relationship, and then like little hints of it in s5 (in 5x01 with the panic attack stuff, and kind of in 5x10 with Eddie basically shutting Buck down about coming back to the 118).
And I think fundamentally they would HATE arguing. Like they are ALWAYS on the same team and I think it would be excruciating for both of them to be at odds with one another, so I think even a relatively small disagreement about something could easily blow up into something way bigger because one, or most likely BOTH, of them try to bury it and ignore it and pretend everything's fine because how can they not be on the same side about something??? and then when they refuse to address it it just gets bigger and bigger and their first fight is like...this kind of catastrophic explosion.
(omg sorry putting the rest under a readmore because this got so long...)
Like not screaming at each other or anything like that, but like their argument gets out of hand and one or both of them have to remove themselves from the situation and a little part of them is like is this it? is this where it ends? what if we really weren't ever meant to get together what if we really were better as friends? We NEVER fought when we were just best friends maybe this is too much for us...and then they get some Wise Perspective from someone or they have a classic Call That Mirrors Our Current Conflict moment and they're like wait. we're being stupid. yeah maybe we're fighting right now but we also both want to fight FOR each other and FOR this relationship.
I do think one of their early if not their earliest fights might be something about Eddie keeping something from Buck--not something nefarious at all, but something where it's Eddie basically processing or refusing to process something and not letting Buck in on the processing/lack thereof and Buck finds out and gets upset because when Eddie keeps things from him BAD THINGS HAPPEN. And Buck LOVES to fix things and Eddie loves that he wants to (comes in handy when you've got a bunch of holes in your walls...) but also he doesn't want to admit that there's anything TO fix and also, maybe this isn't something that can just be FIXED.
Just spitballing but maybe it's that Eddie is avoiding telling his parents about Buck and it's not that Buck needs him to do that but that Eddie is HIDING the fact that he hasn't told his parents FROM Buck because he doesn't want to admit how scary it is to come out to them and also to possibly open up this relationship (that he feels SO sure of and SO happy in) to the judgement of his parents who, for all the progress they've made HAVE proven themselves to be judgmental in the past. And Eddie thinks Buck is going to be hurt and disappointed that he hasn't told his parents but Buck is just hurt and sad that Eddie hasn't shared his feelings about the situation with Buck. (This also fits into my desire to see the friction of like, here's something i would've shared with you without question before we got together but now we ARE together and you are the SUBJECT of the thing I would previously have been sharing with you as like a friend/third party to the situation). Cue the Diaz parents showing up unexpectedly for a surprise visit and it all goes to hell. and i for sure think their future arguments get messy not just for them but also for the entire firehouse. because you know who loves oversharing about their relationship problems at work??? BUCK. and you know who hates talking about his problems and wants to pretend they don't exit? EDDIE "I don't panic" DIAZ. So I do think their little tiffs tend to bleed out and affect everyone on the team (but important to note I don't think they let it affect them on calls, it's more just a general disruption of the Team Vibe like in the truck/at the station because they can't stop sniping at each other). Like I think we'd see something very similar to how pissy Buck was with Eddie in 5x01 and Eddie being like BUCK FOR GODS SAKE and Hen and Chim are like 🍿🍿🍿 and Ravi is like. traumatized because everytime Buck is upset with Eddie somehow HE gets punished for it. and maybe even Chim and Maddie end up in their own argument because they disagree about who is in the wrong in the Eddie/Buck conflict (who is siding with whom...now that's the real question...but for the record in my head Chim is on Buck's side and he is FLABBERGHASTED that Maddie wouldn't take her own brother's side!!! But Maddie and Eddie are so similar so she REALLY empathizes with him in this situation and also she's ALWAYS primed and ready to call Buck out for being a dumbass.) I could see this being played for laughs and/or also as part of a larger conflict about Buck and Eddie being allowed to work together on the same shift. Like maybe it's kind of played somewhat comedically at first and then they like, resolve their fight in some cute way but Bobby still sits them down and is like you have GOT to figure out how to fight as a couple without dragging us all into it. Or you can't work together anymore. I'm so serious.
And Buck and Eddie are like what are you talking about we're all good now!! we love each other everything's great! And Bobby is like *stares directly at the camera* oh so you're never going to have another conflict again for the rest of your lives?
And then Buck starts thinking about how HES GONNA SPEND THE REST OF HIS LIFE WITH EDDIE AND HOW AMAZING IS THAT--sorry I'm getting distracted.
But anyway. Yeah. I think it's a process and they have to actually sit down together and figure out how they're going to handle conflict going forward because as much as they love each other and as much as it KILLS THEM to fight, no relationship is perfect at all times, even theirs.

I think there's something to the fact that Tommy said he missed out on the 118 being a family. Because he didn't - he could have forged those kind of bonds with Hen and Chim at any time, but he didn't. And I don't think it was just because he was gay and afraid of being found out. If that were the case, he would have been friendly when Gerrard wasn't around and just gone silent when he was.
I think that Tommy kind of fundamentally doesn't understand how a family is formed. He seems to think it's about proximity to something that has already been created. To some extent, that's true, but also, becoming part of the 118 family depends on how proactively loyal and considerate of the other members you are. You don't find a family, you make it with blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifice. And I don't think Tommy understands that. He's so emotionally withdrawn, even with Buck. Not extending empathy when Buck was scared to come out, just like he once was. Not bothering to dress up even though Buck was clearly really excited for the party.
Technically, at this point, 911 could either show that Tommy has genuinely changed by having him support Buck when Buck goes after Gerrard for Hen, Chim, and Eddie. Or it could show that, outside of immediate life-or-death situations, Tommy still doesn't understand the value of proactively caring for others just because it's right and necessary. And based on the above behavior, I really think it's going to be the latter.
Another reason I lean towards the second outcome is because Tommy was introduced in competition with Eddie and that's how he has to leave. Eddie's reason for joining the 118 was wanting to be equal part of a good team. He was the one who said the 118 was the family that he chose (proactively). And he reached out to Buck when Buck was at his lowest and gave him his son, the manifestation of his heart, to heal him (and this season is likely mirroring s3). Tommy has to be contrasted with Eddie in order to show us why it's Eddie. And they have to have different views about something extremely important to Buck. And I think this might be that thing.
There are different ways that it could happen. Eddie could take a hit for Buck and Buck could feel the need to repay that by getting rid of Gerrard and Tommy could disagree. Or, Buck could punch Gerrard for Eddie and get suspended and Tommy could disagree with that. But however it happens, I think this will be the fundamental point where Eddie and Tommy differ. And I think that even if Buck says he's putting his job on the line for all of the 118, Tommy will probably call him out about it being mostly for Eddie.

30 & 57 for the intimacy prompts :)
INTIMANCY PROMPTS 30. being protective and 57.secretly dating for saleddie
Sal knows why Eddie asked about keeping their blooming relationships secret. He knows why he agreed easily and even thought it was for the best while they try to see if it was a good idea to date or not. Especially with both their not best dating histories.
All it doesn’t stop him from screaming Eddie’s name when he sees how the man he starts to believe he falls for is trapped under rubbles of the warehouse. It was an easy call at first. 118 came, assessed the situation, called for additional units which turned out to be 122 with Sal, who was happy to see his man in harness sending him bedroom eyes through all the crowd of their teams. Then Eddie and Buck were a super team who saved two kids, and as kids themselves with stupid game decided who would come back to save the dog. Eddie won. And just one Sal’s team were ready to lift his boyfriend up and give Sal a perfect picture of his hero, with his ass looking incredible with harness around it, the earthquake happened. Not big, but enough to cover Eddie with the rubble of a building that was already barely standing before the ground began to shake under their feet. At least they have a radio connection this time and know he is alive. That's what Buck said to him when he stopped him from trying to dig Eddie up with his own hands. Sal knows for Buck maybe it's a pretty ok situation because this time he knows Eddie’s fine, just some bruises and possible broken wrist. But for Sal it’s not enough. His boyfriend is underground and rubbles and he will not stop feeling anxious till he will see him with his own eyes, brush his hair and, when no one will see, leave a kiss on his pretty lips. Till then he will feel this awful, heavy feeling in his stomach and stop the urge to scream at the top of his voice.
“I see him,” Buck says and everyone runs to his place and looks down where Eddie smiles and waves at them.
Asshole. Sal is ready to jump out of his skin from the worry and he just smiles and waves like it's a normal day in the park.
“I’m coming down to get him,” Sal says, already strapping himself in the harness, ignoring Buck and all 118 and some of his people questioning eyes. He needs to save his boyfriend. “Buck secure me.”
The man nods at him, helping him get inside the hole.
“I feel like damsel in distress,” Eddie whispers to him when he lands near the man with the most beautiful brown eyes he’s ever seen, getting ready to get them both up. “Hi, my prince. You look really hot doing the robe rescue. Thanks for the treat for the injured man. Especially for the beautiful view of your ass in the harness.”
Sal just shakes his head exasperatedly.
“What if they will hear us?”
“They won’t.”
Sal shakes his head again and straps Eddie to him. He and Buck work efficiently and soon he and Eddie are back to surface. His boyfriend is quickly taken by Han and Wilson to the ambulance.
Sal wants to ride with them, but he knows he can’t. He still has some hours of his shift left and he can’t leave his team without the captain. And it would be strange for him to ride with Eddie.
So he anxiously waits till his shift is done and then runs to the Diaz house where Eddie texted him Buck took him after they made his cast. He knocks and Eddie opens almost immediately, smiling, and Sal can’t stop himself from reaching and taking Eddie into a deep kiss. He closes the door and pins Eddie to it, loving the moan his man made. They kiss like wild teenagers for what feels like hours before the cough from behind scares them both.
Buck with a smirk that mirrors the one Tommy tries to hide behind his hand, while Chris making fake coughs all look at them with amusement.
“Finally you two stopped this circus with secret relationships,” Chris rolls his eyes and goes to the kitchen.
Buck and Tommy laugh and nod.
“Yeah it was getting hilarious,” Buck agrees.
Tommy hums in agreement, “especially when we saw you two in date clothes walking around the beach with kiss swollen lips and you two played like you just met each other.”
Buck nods.
“So everyone knows?” Eddie asks, but Sal doesn’t see anything that would make him feel Eddie doesn't like it.
“Yes,” Buck says and smiles. “But we all were waiting till you will feel comfortable with sharing.”
Eddie just chuckles. “I should have expected 118 to know.”
“Yeah, you should have. Now you all go and wash your hands. Pasta and garlic bread are ready.”
Eddie turns back to Sal and smiles, “c'mon, I need help with washing my hand in the cast,” he tugs him to the bathroom. “And then in the evening I’d need help with showering,” Eddie winks and Sal needs to kiss him again.

Happy Thursday! I come bearing gifts!
A collection of one-shots by the wonderful @extasiswings as a fic book you can purchase with beautiful cover art from @like-the-rest-of-la. If you're interested, please send me a DM for the link!
This book includes the following Buddie one-shots for your enjoyment:
fire on fire • 6.7k
"You’re sleeping with him.” “I’m not—” Eddie rolls his eyes and corrects himself halfway through. “I’m not sleeping with him like that, okay?” Sophia looks at him for a long moment as her gaze turns from teasing to thoughtful. “But you want to be. Right?” [Or: Buck and Eddie get in the habit of sharing a bed while living together during quarantine. It's platonic until it isn't.]
With A Little Help From My Friends • 2.9k
“You know…several of us parents get together once, maybe twice a month or so. You’re welcome to join us if you’d like. I can add you to the email chain.” Not for the first time that day, Eddie’s surprised. It’s not that he’s opposed, more that the invitation is unexpected. He’s not particularly social—when he is it’s with the team or with Buck or with his family, all of them in each other’s houses, in each other’s lives both at work and away from it. Outside of them… It occurs to him that he’s never really known how to make friends. [Or: Eddie makes friends outside of work and realizes that Buck might not, in fact, be just a friend]
unfold me (tell me you love me) • 2.4k
Eddie follows the sound of running water to the kitchen. He stops in the doorway, leaning against the frame, and spends a moment just watching Buck scrub potatoes in the sink until the other man glances up and notices him. “Hey,” Buck greets. “Chris is reading in his room, I’m just working on dinner. How was the date?” God, I love you, Eddie thinks, and nearly has to bite his tongue to keep it to himself. [Or: Eddie goes on a date and has some realizations about what he really wants.]
for all the perfect things I doubt • 5.2k
Evan Buckley is really good in bed. Sometimes he wishes he wasn’t.
dream of some epiphany • 7.4k
Evan Buckley is lost. It’s happenstance that he wanders into the navy recruiting center—he’s been in San Diego for a few weeks, bartending late nights and weekends, living in a house with three other guys not because he needs the roommates but because he doesn’t want to be alone, and the military is…respectable. Stable. So Buck thinks maybe and opens the door. Buck leaves ten minutes later with a set of printed instructions for sending his first letter, assured that he can drop it off whenever he’s ready, and a name. Staff Sergeant Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz.
of men and of angels • 13.5k
For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know fully even as also I was fully known. - 1 Corinthians 13:12 Eddie Diaz learns a lot as a kid. Boys aren’t soft. Boys don’t cry. Boys don’t kiss boys. As he gets older, he realizes that everything has exceptions. Boys can be soft sometimes. Boys can cry sometimes. And some boys kiss other boys. But Eddie likes kissing girls. And since he likes kissing girls, that’s the end of the story. Isn’t it? [Or: the one with all the repression]
translate the magic (show me) • 8.1k
“I think I might be bad in bed.” Eddie rolls that thought around in his head, trying to decide the best way to respond, weighing the options of what Buck needs to hear versus how to say it. It’s not a conversation he wants to be having, is part of the problem. Thinking about Buck desperately seeking connection through fleeting sexual encounters with strangers already makes him swallow back a wave of petty jealousy and possessiveness. But there’s an added level of insult to injury to the idea that Buck wasn’t even having good sex. Which maybe explains why despite his initial commitment to delicacy and tact, what comes out of Eddie’s mouth is— “You probably were. Bad at it.” Buck’s eyes widen, a strangled noise sounding from his throat. “Don’t pull any punches,” he shoots back as he hunches in the chair and drains the last dregs of his beer. “I didn’t mean it like that.” [Or: the one where Buck has a crisis and Eddie teaches him what good sex really is]
paint me a heaven with your bloodied mouth • 3.3k
Buck. Four letters. One syllable. Eddie knows it’s a nickname. He doesn’t know why Buck picked it or why Buck seems to use it exclusively, but he figures it isn’t really his business. And also that it probably isn’t that deep—all of them use nicknames at work or otherwise in their daily lives. Eddie himself might find it weird if anyone outside of his immediate family suddenly started using his full name regularly after so many years of only rarely hearing it from anyone else. So. Eddie calls Buck Buck. And he doesn’t think anything of it. At least…not at first.
all my atoms • 3.9k
Every atom of me and every atom of you...we'll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pin trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams...and when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won't just be able to take one, they'll have to take two. There are three things every child learns about daemons: Don’t ask questions or talk about another person’s daemon—it’s rude. Don’t put too much distance between yourself and your daemon—it’ll hurt. Under no circumstances should you ever touch someone else’s daemon. Simple. Straightforward. Easy to remember, easier to follow. That’s what Eddie thinks of the rules.
half agony, half hope • 4.4k
“My brother does look well tonight, doesn’t he?” Adriana asks, changing the subject as they turn. Her eyes spark with mischief when Buck hums idly in agreement. “Strange that bruise on his neck, though. I can’t imagine how he could have gotten such a thing.” “Perhaps his fencing partner got a bit overzealous,” he offers, despite knowing that won’t be good enough for her to drop it. [Or, after four seasons, the ton remains baffled that no engagement appears forthcoming between Viscount Buckley and the youngest sister of the Duke of Cederhall. But perhaps they should be paying more attention to the viscount and the duke himself...]
safety and home • 3.1k
The thing Eddie remembers most about the shooting isn’t the shot itself, or the pain, or even the fear—it’s the cold. He’s been through enough in his life to know that his subconscious works in weird ways. After Afghanistan he dreamed more directly of burning helicopters and gunfire, blood in his mouth and smoke on his tongue. Shadows and screams and guilt. After the well his dreams were of Christopher, Shannon, waves crashing on a beach. And Buck. Sunlight. This time...this time Eddie dreams of drowning. [For the prompt: "I'll keep you warm."]
light the dynamite • 1.6k
Buck shivers as he thinks back to earlier in the day, at the way Eddie snapped his name like a whip across the radio when he did exactly what Eddie and Bobby both had told him not to do. At the frosty glad to hear it, Firefighter Buckley, when Buck called dispatch back to tell Eddie he was fine if a little bruised. At the way Eddie had called him at the end of the shift, voice low and quiet and commanding, hooking deep beneath Buck’s skin and stealing the breath from his lungs until all he could manage was a rasping acknowledgment before hanging up. It could be seconds, or minutes, or an hour more, but finally the bedroom door clicks open and— “So you do know how to follow instructions,” Eddie says, the edge in his voice not quite sharp enough to cut but a warning nonetheless. “I was wondering.”
show your cards • 2.7k
“What was this tonight?” Buck rasps, his voice rough as sandpaper to his own ears. Eddie’s lips quirk as his eyes flick to somewhere just to the left of Buck’s ear like he can’t respond if he’s looking at Buck outright. “It was dinner, Buck,” he says. “Dinner and a poker game.” And Buck could leave it there. Honestly, he probably should leave it there, leave it alone, let it drop despite the fact that he can practically taste the lie in the air. But he’s too warm and his pulse is so fast that he’s dizzy with it and Eddie is so close that Buck can’t breathe so he can’t help himself— “Eddie.” His voice cracks. Eddie looks back at him, meets his gaze. Slowly, with more than enough time for Buck to move or to stop him, Eddie brings a hand up to curl around Buck’s shoulder, his thumb brushing Buck’s neck in a way that lights up every inch of his skin. “Tonight was whatever you want it to be,” Eddie corrects finally. “No more, no less.”
you make my heart beat • 1.9k
Eddie Diaz knows two things: 1) he's a great nurse; and 2) he does not fall for patients. After spending five months with Evan Buckley...well. Maybe that second one is a little more of an open question.
graveyard whistling (and why things hurt) • 3.2k
“Eddie?” Buck’s hand touches his shoulder and Eddie inhales sharply and comes back to himself. His eyes flick back to the phone—the screen now dimmed and black—then settle on the counter next to it as he swallows hard. “You okay?” Buck asks quietly. “She died today,” Eddie replies. “And I forgot. I forgot that it was today.”
only human, nothing more • 1.9k
It’s stupid maybe, but it feels a little like something happens in that chair. They cut away the softness and leave behind sharp regulation edges and it doesn’t stop Eddie from being afraid, but it...helps. Helps him pretend. Helps him fall into the role of someone who is responsible, someone who knows what they’re doing, someone who— Someone who is in control. (Stupid, maybe. Stupid, definitely, is what he settles on years later when he’s back from war, trapped in his own head and drowning on dry land, because regulation edges make him flinch when he looks in the mirror and he knows no haircut in the world is going to help him fake his way back to normalcy. So he just lets it grow again. It doesn’t matter anyway.) [Or: Eddie introspection through the seasons as explored through haircuts]
It’s 5.5 x 8.5 in. and 319 pages.
Of course, no money is being made off of this collection. Here's the evidence of that:

After making all the sets showcasing the parallels between BuckTommy and all of Buck’s past failed relationships - what do you think that foreshadows about how BuckTommy will break up? So you think it will follow a pattern similar to one or more of his past breakups? Do you think it will have Buck realizing that he’s not off the hamster wheel just because he’s learned that he also likes men? How do you see that playing out?
Okay, here's the thing, Tommy parallels everyone. Including Ana and Kim and I'm sure that if I push the definitions of what a parallel is I could maybe find something with Marisol too, so it makes it harder to predict something. But focusing on Buck's relationships and how those go, Buck has two off-screen breakups. That creates some wiggle room in the pattern because we only have a throwaway line about the relationship ending. But as someone pointed out, I can't find the post right now, Buck's relationships end with what started it. If you simplify it enough the one with Abby starts and ends because Abby needs something to feel better, but Buck was Abby's love interest, not the other way around, so she bends the rules a bit. Ali and Buck meet because of the job and during their first date Buck even asks if she didn't just ask him out because of it and it ends because she can't handle it. Taylor wanted to get ahead on her job so much so that their first argument is brought up when they break up, because she did it once again. And Natalia started and ended because of Buck's death. There's also the way that both breakups we see come from Buck. If we consider the letter to Abby a breakup. But points in common between Buck's journey into letting go of Abby and breaking up with Taylor include: Buck talking to someone external in avoidance, talking to Bobby about how bad things are going in 204 vs talking to Eddie about how bad things are going in 518, Buck talking to someone external who will trigger the acceptance, talking to Carla in 207 vs talking to Maddie in 518, Buck also spends a length of time avoiding the actual problem until the thread snaps. His problems with Taylor didn't start at the story about Jonah, it was just the last drop, and his problems with Abby were more than her refusal to talk to him. A lot of people are oversimplifying what gets bt together to Eddie, and while, yes, it is, Buck doesn't know that. With Ali, Taylor, and Natalia, even Abby, that key problem is something he knows. He asks Ali if it's about the job. He gets into an argument with Taylor about her attitude, with Natalia, he even tells Eddie she just wanted to ask more about his death. And the whole thing about Buck and his relationship with Abby was Buck learning to provide her with something. So I'm gonna on a limb here and say it will be about Bobby somehow. They meet because they need to save bathena, the talk before the kiss also involves Tommy talking about being jealous of Buck's spot in the family the 118 created after he left, which was brought up again during the dinner in 710. Gerrard being back is the perfect opening for cracks to start happening in their relationship and given how unbending and dry Tommy has been so far, them clashing because Tommy's approach to Gerrard was complacency and Buck doesn't know how to stand down when the people he loves are hurt, so would fit the breakup pattern. Especially because Tommy actually was there to excuse Buck from hurting someone while Buck was fully ready to take the responsibility, he just wasn't sure how to do it yet. I am also expecting s5 parallels, and my main spec right now is an opening disaster that mirrors the blackout aka forces the team to move into one place for a longer time, so I'm kinda expecting some sort of conversation with Eddie that will mirror the panic attacks one where he's in denial and a conversation with Chim or Hen that snaps him out of it and leads to the breakup. Also, the whole thing with the hamster wheel is that Buck doesn't know he's in one. And dating the same gender will come with its own set of issues that Buck won't see because it's outside what he's used to. So, maybe, someone can call Buck out on how he's repeating his patterns, maybe a callback to the truck conversation in 509 with Bobby telling him "you're still not talking to the people you date, kid" or something along those lines and push him into action. I also think that the show having Buck say with all the letters that he sees Bobby as a his father will probably have repercussions.
But, yeah, tldr is my current theory is that the 118 will cause the breakup.
There's always the possibility of it ending offscreen too. It could go anyway.

Buck's Love-lines (pt3)
And now, you know, I was gonna start with Tommy here, but I forgot about Natalia. So here's Natalia.
Tumblr media
I don't know if she's asking him on a date. Though she's more interested in his death. But... She came onto him. She preluded.
Tumblr media
Though I don't know if it's her usual style here, or she prettied herself for this coffee outing. So maybe, it's a date.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Buck asked her out again, so we can say, Buck reciprocates. and then. She met Lucy,
Tumblr media
Another date, Idea about Taylor Kelly,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though not a love-line, Kameron's a friend who he helped to get pregnant.
Natalia walk out to think.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And she came back. And witnessed the coming of life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Confessed to Buck. And on a next date to couch hunting.
But....
They broke up... who's idea, mutual, or Buck ending things... But it ended.
And to the next chase.
Buck wanted to be friends with Tommy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He finds Tommy cool. Of course everyone's saying he's a mirror of Eddie.
Buck chased, or what he knows to be since i's started in him wanting to be friends with Tommy. But Eddie came and already friends with Tommy.
So Buck's feeling abandoned, or sidelined, or hurt, or left-behind.
By Tommy? because he wants to be friends with him, but Eddie is already a friend of Tommy?, or
By Eddie? because Eddie's spending more time with Tommy than hanging out with him, and Eddie's his best friend and treating Tommy more like his best friend? Let's add Chris talking about Tommy when Buck was hanging out with Chris while Eddie's hanging out with Tommy.
So we can guess he stopped trying hanging out with Tommy.
He went to Maddie, and Chim.
and basketball.
Maiming Eddie. Well, I'll be pissed too if I'm Buck, if my best friend's so happy teaming up with this new guy I want to be friends with at first. But then they go acting like they're best friends. Though I'll give up trying to hang out with my best friend, and just enjoy hanging out with Chris and take care of him. Go, best friend, or friend, have fun with your new best friend. I'm used to being left, replaced. I'm never a priority.
Sorry.
Buck ran to Maddie again. And what Maddie told him about getting someone's attention,
"Maddie: Well it's not how you get someone's attention. You clear your throat. You tap him on the shoulder."
Who went to Buck's loft?
Tommy.
Tumblr media
And that talk, you know where it went.
In Buck's mind, he wants to get Tommy's attention. He want's to be friends and hang out.
Tumblr media
That's why Tommy's confused, coz he thought, Buck want's Eddie's attention.
So he understood it in a way to look at Buck like this.
Tumblr media
and went with it.
So I guess, Tommy started that relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though the date was cut short,
And Buck ran to Maddie. again.
Coz he lied to Eddie.
And Maddie after all the talk, asked about the pilot. So Buck went bashful.
Maybe that's why he told Eddie he can't stop thinking about Tommy because he started talking about him with Maddie. When before he came for the talk about lying to Eddie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, he called Tommy. Coz Eddie said so.
Called to be his date on his sister's wedding. And to dance with. So started dating again.
And the hospital kiss, I've been seeing around. I haven't watched the last episode, so, I guess there'll be label now. Boyfriends.
To sum Buck's love-lines
Abby started it. Abby never came back.
Ali started it. Ali ended it.
Josh. Just an insinuation. Maddie ended it.
Veronica. date disaster. Albert inserted.
Taylor Kelly chased it. Buck ended it.
Natalia started it. Who ended it?
Tommy opened the door for Buck (by kissing him, so Buck considered a different kind of relationship with him other than being friends.)
How's it gonna end?
Tumblr media
We can only hope, who ever it is, Buck's always happy and excited.

note: the links weren't working the first time i wrote the post but i edited and they're okay now!! if it still isn't working for you is probably because you're trying to open from a reblog from before i edit it, so try open directly from the original post on my profile.
Blind Date by @sassypopstar [complete | teen and up audiences | 3.8k words]
Buck feels a little ridiculous dressed in a jacket and a shirt. But Maddie had insisted on him dressing up for the occasion and even Chimney had quipped that it’s the right thing to do. So Buck, who never went on a blind date before in his life, listened to his big sister and her boyfriend because apparently that’s who he is now. Or the one where Buck goes on a blind date with someone called Eddie.
Buckley's Bouquets by awashleyno [complete | teen and up audiences | 23.4k words]
A world where Buck owns a flower shop and manages to develop a huge, massive, ridiculous crush on a handsome firefighter that comes in for a visit one day. Or, 5 times Eddie gives flowers to other people and the 1 time he gives them to Buck.
Call It What You Will - Fate? Destiny? (A Tsunami) by @abow123456 [complete | mature | 20k words]
Evan Buckley's day of relaxation is cut short when a tsunami hits the beach he was relaxing at. He has to fight to keep himself and a lost little boy safe from the water, as well as anyone else he finds. After, he meets the boys father and family, and it causes a snowball effect of good things for him, for once.
Capuccino with extra, extra sugar by buckbng [complete | teen and up audiences | 2.7k words]
Buck is the cute barista and Eddie is the grinch that hates coffee. Until, he doesn't. Because if Buck says he looks like the kind of person that would love a cappuccino, who's Eddie to disagree with him? OR Eddie really doesn't like coffee but pretends he does just so he has an excuse to see the cute barista at the coffee shop.
Confirmation Bias by strifechaos [complete | mature | 31k words]
After the fallout with his ex-wife, Eddie believed he could only trust his family with his son. He hadn’t imagined falling for his son’s sweet-hearted nanny, Buck. With his own family so distant, Buck never considered that he’d be lucky enough to find a home for himself, let alone people he could count on. Not until he meets the Diaz boys. AU: Buck was never a firefighter, and becomes Christopher's sitter when Shannon's job takes her away from Eddie and Chris for the summer. Eddie tries to not fall for his son's nanny, he's not very successful.
dream of some epiphany by extasiswings [complete | mature | 7.3k words]
Evan Buckley is lost. It’s happenstance that he wanders into the navy recruiting center—he’s been in San Diego for a few weeks, bartending late nights and weekends, living in a house with three other guys not because he needs the roommates but because he doesn’t want to be alone, and the military is…respectable. Stable. So Buck thinks maybe and opens the door. Buck leaves ten minutes later with a set of printed instructions for sending his first letter, assured that he can drop it off whenever he’s ready, and a name. Staff Sergeant Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz.
Frequent Flyer by red_to_black [complete | mature | 13.4k words]
In his entire time being a firefighter, Eddie has never met anyone as accident-prone as Evan Buckley. And Buck - well, he's quickly becoming the 118's best customer. (Or - the one where Eddie is a firefighter, Buck isn't, and Eddie finds himself rescuing Buck from increasingly sticky situations. Sometimes literally.)
Gave me no messages, gave me no signs... by @reallysmartladymariecurie [complete | teen and up audiences | 7.4k words]
"Buck is beyond nervous, and he’s really trying to convince himself that the familiarity of the situation is not some sort of bad omen. Just because there are parallels of the start of his relationship with Eddie to that of his relationship with Abby doesn’t mean that this new adventure is destined to end in the same miserable fashion. He hopes it won’t, has to believe it won’t. Because even with Abby, he hadn’t fallen this hard for her before their first official date. With Eddie, everything is already intensified by a thousand." Or, Buck covers a shift for a firefighter at the 136 and it leads to a budding relationship through text messages.
Gotta Find My Corner (Of the Sky) by doctornineandthreequarters [complete | general audiences | 31.3k words]
It was the last day of 2016 and two lost souls found themselves in a quiet dive bar, as the loud noises of the city celebrating New Year’s Eve buzzed around them. Most people chose loud, flashy bars with DJs and entrance fees and promises of champagne for New Year’s Eve. But both occupants of the dive bar preferred the quiet. They both didn’t need the added chaos when everything around them already felt chaotic. --- Or, Buck and Eddie meet on New Year's Eve, 2016, a meeting that sets of a series of events that changes the trajectory of both of their lives.
I Didn't Know I Was Lonely 'Till I Saw Your Face by @hmslusitania [complete | general audiences | 10.4k words]
After the ladder truck and the blood clot and the tsunami, Bobby makes Buck go to therapy before he does something stupid (like sue the city). Buck's not totally comfortable being alone with a therapist, but fortunately he makes a friend and ally who's willing to help him out - Eddie Diaz from the 136 who's just been caught in an illegal fight club. OR Total strangers Buck and Eddie go to couple's therapy together to get out of the therapy requirements their captains have placed on them.
i want your midnights by allyasavedtheday [complete | teen and up audiences | 36.3k words]
In which Eddie decides to rent out his spare room to help with mortgage repayments right around the time Buck decides to move out of Abby's place after some not so gentle prodding from Maddie. It's a coincidence. Or serendipity. Or maybe just really good timing.
i wanna be know (by you) by @starlightbuck [complete | general audiences | 12.5k words]
“I didn’t mean to do it.” Hen glances down at Eddie’s phone then back up at him in disbelief.
“How do you ‘not mean’ to download a bunch of dating apps but still have them on your phone?”
Or  In which Eddie delves into the intimidating world of online dating.
if i got locked away (would you still love me the same?) by @firefighterhan [complete | general audiences | 3.7k words]
Buck gets accidentally thrown in jail after meddling in a fight outside of a grocery store. There, he meets an unexpected guest, famous music artist Eddie Diaz, who is being suspiciously quiet about how he ended up here in the first place.
if only in my dreams by @buttercupbuck [complete | general audiences | 5.4k words]
Years before Eddie joins the 118, Buck meets him at an airport bar on Christmas day.
in a week by @buttercupbuck [complete | explicit | 78.9k]
in which Eddie joins the U.S. Forest Service and in the meadows of California, finds the things he thought he lost and the things he thought he'd never have.
It Started With A Bang And A Hostage Situation by JayJay__884 [complete | general audiences | 6.6k words]
Buck goes to the store one late night to buy food because of Maddie's pregnancy cravings. Whilst at the store, Buck accidentally gets caught in the middle of a robbery and gets knocked out. After waking up in the backroom, Buck finds himself as a hostage with a handsome and caring stranger.
Leading with the Left by @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels [complete | explicit | 84.7k]
When Buck said he was a "bartender" in "South America" what he actually meant was "stripper" in "Mexico." And when Eddie said, "What's your problem?" what he actually meant was, "Is this about the time you gave me a lap dance?" In other words, there's a few things the 118 doesn't know about Buck. Or Eddie. Or Buck and Eddie's relationship.
Lift me up by @captain--sif [complete | teen and up audiences | 5.5k words]
Buck gets stuck in his apartment building's broken elevator with his good-looking neighbor from the sixth floor.
Love and Bullets Both Shatter Hearts (But Only One Can Put You Back Together) by @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels [complete | explicit | 11.2k words]
Agent [Redacted] Diaz is the best at what he does. Usually. But lately there's this real pain in the ass* who's been ruining his missions: Code Name "Buck."
*stupidly handsome and annoyingly talented rival spy
Mr. Buckley's After Hours Detention by aresaphrodites [complete | mature | 11.4k words]
It’s not like Eddie Diaz planned on this. Really, there was no scenario in his mind where he would ever be bringing his son’s teacher a freaking goody basket to class; a homemade goody basket, no less. Then again, Christopher has never had a teacher quite like Evan Buckley.
MukbangsWithBuck by @reallysmartladymariecurie [complete | teen and up audiences | 19.3k words]
After growing tired of eating alone in his loft, Buck decides to start a YouTube channel where he records himself eating dinner and telling stories about crazy things his team has encountered on calls. He eventually gains a substantial fanbase, and he is led to the channel of another LA firefighter who uploads informational videos and also casual vlogs with his ten-year-old son. It isn't long before the two start a friendship through messages, both of them secretly hoping it will turn into something more. Or, Eddie and Buck are both firefighters/YouTubers and they end up falling in love.
Objects in the Mirror by SevenSoulmates [complete | explicit | 139.1k words]
The voice had always been around, Eddie remembers it, like a stream of consciousness that babbled incoherently to the point where Eddie just tuned it out.  But then the voice started speaking directly to him. Conversing like he was a whole person standing right in front of him. Like he could see what was happening around Eddie. Eddie shook his head. No one was talking to him, and Eddie most certainly was not talking back. He wouldn’t talk to the boy in his head ever again. There was no boy in his head.
Passive Aggressive Flirting by @starlingbite [complete | general audiences | 4.5k words]
Buck and Eddie have never met. They both work at the 118 but just on different shifts. That's all about to change when Buck finds a sticky note message, signed E.
String of hearts... by @reallysmartladymariecurie [complete | teen and up audiences | 11.1k words]
“Now. Eddie is this incredible presence. He’s funny and smoking hot, and he has a son who sounds wonderful. And he’s serious and vulnerable at times. But so enjoyable to be around, every single second that he’s there. And how can I put myself out there when the expectation is so high? When the thing I might lose is so beautiful?”
In which Buck owns a plant shop in LA, and Eddie becomes his new favorite customer. Pining ensues.

Prompt: Buck and Reader are dating (maybe even engaged) before buck joins 118. Buck doesn't tell about reader at anyone in the station. Eddie could already be part of 118. And then buck gets hurt or something and they meet reader. Athena loves her and then can we have a scene of buck&reader with the fire kids.
Emergency Contact
Tumblr media
Evan Buckley x Reader
Warnings: fem!reader, mentions of hospitals and injuries, a mention of pregnancy
Category: Angst and fluff
Word Count: 3.3k
Author’s Note: Italics is a flashback :)
----
A house fire, a normal occurrence for the 118. They arrive, Buck and Eddie make their way through the house whilst Hen and Chim tend to the others. The family that lived there, the Smiths, couldn't find their daughter outside and figured she was still inside so they had gone in to find her.
Buck and Eddie had spilt up when they got inside, Buck going left and Eddie going right. Eddie had found the little girl and managed to get her out of the house, her parents were grateful that he brought her back to them.
“Where’s Buck ?” Bobby turns to Eddie.
Eddie glances around, unsure as to where his friend was. “I thought he was right behind me, I swear I saw him on the stairs”
Bobby radioed, “Buckley, come in”
Before they could get an answer, there was a loud crash from inside the house. Eddie and Bobby run back in to see Buck on the floor of the kitchen, the ceiling had a massive hole in it and he was covered in dust. Buck tries to sit up a little too fast but falls onto his back. It seems like the floor had given out under him and he had fallen through.
“Buck?” Eddie calls to him, checking his pupils. “Yeah, definite concussion,” he tugs on Buck’s coat, feeling his abdomen area. “At least 2 broken ribs, if not more.” Eddie looks up at their captain, his hand still gently feeling Buck’s abdomen.
Bobby comes over, grabbing Buck’s feet as Eddie sits Buck up carefully and loops his arms under his. The two men carry him out, Chimney rolling a stretcher over to them. From that point, Hen and Chim took over, checking his vitals and if they had missed any other fractions or broken bones. The ambulance pulled off first, Chimney in the driver’s seat and Hen in the back with Buck. The firetruck followed, both vehicles headed to the hospital.
---
“Did anyone call Maddie ?” Hen breaks the silence filled waiting room. Bobby looks up at her, Hen speaks again, “she is his emergency contact, isn't she?”
Something about that didn’t sound right to Bobby. He hadn’t been there when Buck started as a probie but he had gone over everyones forms when he became captain. He can’t remember who Buck’s emergency contact was but he didn’t think it was Maddie.
“Does anyone have her number ?” Bobby asks, no one answers. “I’m gonna head back to the station, I'll give her a call and come back. If anything changes, let me know?” Eddie answers with a yeah and Bobby heads out.
Once he arrived back at the station, he searched through the drawers of files - which truthfully, should be organized better, but that was a problem for another time. Once finding the file, his finger runs down the page. Maddie’s name was on the form but as a secondary contact. y/n l/n was the name listed as primary contact so he called this mystery woman. She answers after the first 2 rings.
“Hi, is this y/n?”
“It is, who’s this?”
“I’m captain Bobby Nash with the 118.”
“What can I do for you, captain ?”
“You’re listed as Evan’s primary emergency contact.” there was a pause in the conversation, the line had gone silent.
“Yeah, is he alright ?” the woman’s voice returns.
“He fell through the floor during a call today. He has a concussion and a few broken ribs- one of the ribs seems to have punctured a lung and he’s in surgery now. I was calling to notify you, we’re at the hospital if you’d like to join us”
“Thank you for calling, I'll be there soon” and with that, she hung up. Bobby still had no idea who this woman was or how she knew Buck. The lack of emotion in the call didn’t help him gauge who it might be. He pushed the thought from his mind and called Maddie - surely whoever this y/n woman was, was obviously important to Buck if she was listed before Maddie but Maddie was his sister and she deserved to know so he called her anyways.
When Bobby returned back, Buck was still in surgery. He sat down just as Athena arrived. A box of donuts in one hand and one of those huge containers of coffee in the other, Bobby got up and helped her, not before pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“You didn’t have to come by,” he tells her as he sets the thing of coffee on the table in the middle of the room, she gives him a small smile. “Buck might be trouble but he’s still one of ours. I’d show up for any of them, you know that” she nudges him with her shoulder softly, he smiles at her once more. Everyone gets up, helping themselves to the coffee and donuts that Athena brought- they all thanked her as they all know the horrors of hospital food.
A woman walks in, she’s at the nurses desk which is across from where the team sat. She’s asking for Evan Buckley and the nurse points her in the direction of the team in the waiting room. She approaches, her hands shoved in her sweater pocket- rather Buck’s sweater pocket. Bobby had seen him show up to work in that very sweater a few days before.
“You must be y/n” Bobby stands, his hand stretched out to her.
“I am, you’re Bobby, right ?” your hand comes out to reach his, shaking it. It didn’t take long for Bobby to notice the large diamond on your ring finger. Your hand lets go of his, returning to its spot in your pocket. Bobby gives you a small smile which you mirror.
“Everyone, this is y/n. Buck’s- sorry, I didn’t ask. How do you know Buck?” Bobby asks you, you glance around the room. Everyone's eyes were on you.
“I’m Buck’s-”
“Y/n!” a woman calls for you. Turning around, you see Maddie approaching you. “Mads!” your arms open as she gets closer. She embraces you in a hug, your hand rubbing up and back her back.
“Did you hear anything yet ?” she asks you, letting you go. Shaking your head, “I just got here”
“You know her too ?” Chimney pipes up from his chair, Maddie looks over at him. “Yeah, obviously. She’s Buck’s fiancee” she tells him, the entire room goes silent.
You look over at your sister in law, “they didn’t know that yet Mads” chuckling, you pat her back before taking a seat across from a woman in a police uniform. Maddie’s eyes went wide, her mouth slightly opened in shock. “Sorry! I thought you told them” she says, sitting beside Chimney. “I was about too but you called for me”
Everyone’s attention is on you, the woman sitting across from you speaks up. “Well, it’s nice to meet you” she says, “I’m Athena, Bobby’s wife” she introduces herself.
“Ah, so the whole family’s in law enforcement huh ?” you smile, Athena chuckles. “Seems like it. What do you do ?”
“I’m a nurse over at General”
“I thought I had seen you somewhere before” Athena smiles.
The room goes back to quiet, the team talking amongst themselves. Maddie sat beside you and on her other side was Chimney, you had seen him for the pictures Maddie showed you when she started seeing him. Beside him was a woman, she wore glasses and had a friendly smile- Hen. Buck had told you about her and her wife, they seemed like nice people. Sitting beside Hen was a man, cute with somewhat of a resting bitch face- that was Eddie, Buck’s best friend. Buck practically lived at his house when you worked night shifts and you had also seen a million and one photos of his son, Christoper, who was the sweetest little boy on the planet from what you had heard.
Your hand rested on your lap, your thumb pushing and pulling the engagement ring on your finger back and forth.
“He must really love you because that’s one hell of a rock” Athena was pacing the room and was now beside you, her hand reaching for yours to take a closer look at the ring. You laugh, “it is, isn't it?”
“I have to ask, how long have you two been engaged ? Because he’s never mentioned you.”
“Oh I know,” you hum, “we like to keep things low key but um, it’s been 2 years since we got engaged. We aren't really in a rush to get married.” you tell her.
“2 years? That’s a long time to keep a secret like that”
“Yeah, it’s been a challenge- but it’s not like he didn’t want to tell you guys. He just didn’t know how. Oh you know how he is- actions over words.”
You and Athena talk a bit more, she tells you how Bobby proposed to her on Christmas Eve. She showed you a picture from when they got married- her own massive ring adorning her finger. You told her about how Buck proposed to you.
“Babe! The pancakes are going to get cold!” you shouted for your boyfriend from the kitchen of your apartment.
“I’m coming woman! Calm down” he shouts back, his footsteps coming closer with each step.
Buck had the weekend off and so did you- a rare occurrence for the two of you. You decided that instead of going out to get breakfast like you normally would, that you would cook instead. Hence why you were up at 10:15 on a Saturday morning and why your boyfriend’s shirt that you were wearing, was covered in flour and eggs.
Buck’s arms wrapped around your waist, your attention on the stove. His hands coming ups under your shirt to feel your bare skin, he was busy peppering kisses down your neck. You nudge him with your shoulder, “go sit down, I'll bring the pancakes over in a minute” you tell him and he hums. Pressing one more kiss to your neck, he untangles himself from you and goes to the table.
The layout of your apartment was a bit strange, the kitchen was by the front door but the kitchen didn’t have much space so your table was closer to your living room than the kitchen and there was a wall blocking you when you were in the kitchen so you weren’t able to see the table.
Now heading to the table with a plate in each hand, you were focused on not dropping the plates. That went out the window when you entered the room to see your boyfriend down on one knee with a velvet box in his hand.
“Buck” you breath
“Y/n, you are so amazing, you just- god, this is so cheesy but you really do take my breath away. Last night, I was laying beside you and I had this perfectly rehearsed speech that I was going to give you but it just doesn't make sense now. From the moment I met you, I knew you were special. You stood by my side and didn't complain when I worked long hours or didn't have time because I joined the fire department. You are the woman of my dreams and I would do anything for you. So I hope you would do me the honour of being my wife ?”
“Yes, oh my god yes” you lean down to kiss him. Buck smiles, “baby?”
“Hm?”
“You gotta put the plates down” he chuckles, you hadn't realized you were still holding the plates. Setting them down, Buck gets up. The ring that was in the box was now in his hand, he slid the ring on your finger. Holding your hand up, you admired the ring.
“I think this deserves a proper breakfast”
“I don’t think there’s anything better than this” he pulls you in for a hug.
Athena laughs when you tell her, “he ambushed you when you were making him breakfast ? This kid has no sense of the right time” you chuckles at her comment. “It was perfect. I don’t think I would have it any other way, you know?”
The doctor comes in, he asks for Buckley and all 7 of you stand. “Wow big group. Okay- we were able to patch the hole. He’ll need to be off work for the next 3-4 weeks before he can even consider going back but he should make a full recovery.” a few breaths of relief were let out around the room. “He’s in recovery now, I can take you in one at a time. Who would like to go first ?”
Everyone's looking at you and you glance over your shoulder. “Do any of you want to go ?” you ask, no one answers you.
“Maddie ?”
“I’m gonna get some air and some coffee and then I'll be there. Give him a hug for me” she gives your hand a squeeze, you smile at her. Following the doctor down the hallway, you pass multiple rooms all with different families and people with different injuries. That’s one of the things you enjoyed about the hospital- if you looked past all the sadness, there were so many success stories, so many happy families.
Room 276 at the end of the hall was his. Buck was asleep, a few wires and such were hooked to him. Pulling a chair up to his bedside, your hand reached for him, holding it gently as your thumb rubbed the top of it. Your eyes drift to his monitor by his bedside, steady heartbeat and blood pressure. There was nothing to be concerned about yet you couldn't look away.
“y/n,” a faint whisper left his lips, you glanced down at your fiancee, his eyes barely opened.
“Buck,” you smiled, your hand coming up to touch his face. He nuzzled closer to your hand, turning his head ever so slightly to press a kiss to the palm of your hand.
“Can I- water?” you let go of him to get the glass from the counter. Pouring some water in it, you stick the straw in the cup before holding the straw to his lips. He sighed and looked at you as you set the cup down. “I guess the secret’s out ?” he smiles, you nod.
“Maddie let it slip, but I was about to tell them so it’s fine” you kiss his forehead.
“Is everyone here?”
“Yeah, in the waiting room. They all thought you’d look horrendous so I came in to check, lucky me right ?” you joke, Buck lets out a weak laugh before his hand comes up to his chest.
“Ow, don’t make me laugh” he pouts, you smile at him. Sitting at the edge of the chair, your hand finds his hair, brushing it back softly.
“Surgery isn't a good look on you”
“Hey, I always look good” he pouts once more.
---
The few weeks go by a lot quicker than expected and Buck is set to return to the 118 on Monday. Athena had helped you plan a little surprise get together for Buck but you had just told him that you were headed over to Bobby and Athena’s for the day because you were going shopping with Athena. You left home around noon and helped them set up all day and you called Buck around 6.
“Hey babe, how’s shopping going ?”
“It’s alright, we’re back at the house now. Bobby was saying that you should swing by, we could all have dinner together”
“Hm yeah, that sounds good. I’ll be there soon”
Now you wait. The entire team was already there, everyone scattered amongst the living room, waiting for him to arrive. He knocked on the door, Athena shouted for him to come in. He walked in, everyone waited for him to round the corner, the surprise evident on his face.
“What’s all this?” he smiles, he makes his way down the stairs.
“Welcome back” Bobby goes over to give him a hug. Buck makes his way around the room, saying hello to everyone. Eventually, he finds you in the kitchen with Karen who says hello to him and then leaves the two of you in the kitchen.
“So did you really go shopping ?” he asks, his arm over your shoulder and your arm wraps around his waist.
“Yeah but for party supplies” you smile at him, he leans down and kisses your head. Chris, Denny and Harry all come into the kitchen on the hunt for sweets that you previously heard Eddie, Athena and Hen all telling them that they weren't allowed to have. Of course they assumed that if they sweet-talk Buck that he would give them, and he did, he never said no to those boys.
All three of them made themselves comfortable on the couch as Buck returned with a plate of cupcakes for them. Buck sat beside them, pulling you onto his lap.
“Do you have any scars from the surgery ?” Denny asks him, looking over at Buck. “Yeah, do you wanna see ?” Buck asks, the 3 boys nod eagerly. You smile at them, Buck unbuttons the top of his shirt, pulling it to the side to show the boys the scar from the surgery. It was fairly tiny but still noticeable.
“Woah that’s cool!” “Can I poke it?” “That’s weird looking”
You and Buck laugh at the responses- boys will be boys. The 3 boys ask a few more questions and Buck shows them a couple other scars that he had gotten over the year, eventually they get bored of Buck and his stories and go off to find someone else. You leave Buck in the living room as he was talking to Maddie and Chimney.
Now in the backyard, you and Athena were talking about when you'd actually go shopping when someone bumped into your leg. Looking down, you see Nia beside you, you pick her up and hold her, Nia sitting comfortably on your hip now. The two of you go along with your conversation and Nia cuddles into your side, you glance down at the little girl who was smiling at you, you give her a smile too.
Buck’s arm wraps around your shoulder, he presses a kiss to your temple. “Hey,” he smiles before leaning forward to take a peak at Nia, “Hey kiddo” he reaches out to hold her hand, she smiles at him.
“You 3 look comfortable together” Hen says as she makes her way over with Karen. Buck laughs.
“If you’re open to babysitting, feel free to take the kids anytime” Karen jokes, you smile. “I might take you up on that. It’d be like to have an actual kid around rather than just Buck” you laugh, Buck pouts. “Hey! I’m not that bad” the 3 women all give him looks. Athena pats his shoulder, “that’s what you think Buckaroo”
“Having the kids around would be good practice” Your fiancee thinks out loud.
“Practice for what, darling?”
“You know, one day maybe we’d have kids”
“Oh not now? Not a fan of the whole pregnancy glow thing ?”
“Oh I am, I do it right-” “don’t finish that sentence” you laugh, leaning up to give  him a kiss. You had a feeling that your fiancé’s family was about to become yours too.

Eddie and the daffodils
Ok so I'm back on my Eddie and Narcissus/Daffodils soap box!
I was prepared to believe I was maybe clowning a bit with all the Narcissus around Eddie in 5a...
But then having daffodils sat on the table in the Eddie montage in 5x11? Well now i'm convinced i'm not clowning at all because those things are not a co-incidence - thats 3 times in 1 season we've had Eddie and narcissus in the same space!
in 5x05 in the narcissus mirror storyline - apart from 1 moment (when Hen is), Eddie is the only one who we see in shot alone with Lewis - the guy who brought the mirror and injured himself by trapping a nerve in his neck - getting stuck in one position - on the toilet. All the other shots are Lewis alone or have multiple people (Hen and Bobby plus Lewis, or Buck, Hen, Lewis etc.) Eddie is also the only one down on his knees at the same eye level as Lewis - everyone else is standing up and above them both- again drawing a connection between them. Hens explanation to Lewis is also very interesting as well;
'What we have here is an severely pinched nerve in the neck, from over exertion and straining which caused his body to spasm and freeze. (said to Bobby)
Thats why you can't move.(said to Lewis)
But I assure you its all temporary.' (said while the camera is focused on Eddie).
Its as if we're supposed to read that this is actually about Eddie - we watch Him and Hen not being in sync with each other, but its about the idea of getting stuck in one place (hmmm foreshaddowing my beloved - the idea of over exercising and going nowhere - that treadmill is feeling even more relevent!!) - a place you don't want to be when you over exert yourself to please others - narcissism isn't always a bad thing - if you are doing something for yourself such as taking the time to self care and heal from trauma - it will enable you to be there for others. It's saying that others will be there for you - to provide help along the way, but ultimately you'll only be successful if you do it for you and not for others - something Eddie needs to learn!
Tumblr media
Then there are the daffodils in Eddies Kitchen;
Tumblr media
^^^ In 5x10 - there hanging out on the sideboard - in the centre of the shot while Eddie is talking to Carla about Christophers meltdown.
Then we see them in the middle of the table in 5x11 during breakfast with Christopher in the same yellow and white vase. vvv
Tumblr media
Both of these instances have the flowers in the centre of the screen and they draw the eye - because bright yellow and static (theres a reason hazard signs are yellow!)! the other common denominator in all of this is Chris - Eddie talks about changing his job to make Chris happy then we see the reality of Eddie leaving his job for Chris - the flowers tie the two scenes together and while initially Eddie is clearly enjoying his time with Chris, the reality of his new life is that as we watch it unfold - the colour drains out of the kitchen - not drastically, but it fades and looks washed out - in the same way Eddies clothes get darker and the bedroom washes out as well - everything is turning grey.
Also - as an aside - Eddie has actually decorated his barren wasteland of a room - with a picture of cactus in the desert!!! Set team you are not subtle - such a fun metaphor for Eddie - he is literally a cactus in the desert at this moment in time - stuck with little to no sustenance and outwardly prickly!!
Eddie has never been surrounded by soooo much background yellow as in s5 - the lighting especially is very loud!!
I mean in 5x11 alone - Eddie was surrounded by yellow - the yellow of the fruit and orange juice, the yellow daffodils and then all the very yellow background lighting through the windows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sooooo much yellow - all in scenes that important communication is taking place and one of the reasons I'm convinced that talk between Eddie and Josh is going to come back up later - that yellow lighting is very loud! then we have yellow lighting in the kitchen when Eddie and Chris finally talk (not enough but its a start - Eddie needs to break before we'll get more!) and then yellow glass behind bobby and a yellow folder in Eddies hand when he tries to head back to the 118 - all important moments that set the course for Eddie to reach his breaking point!!

Sorry, I don't know if you've talked about this before, but do you think the show replicating parts of Eddie's introduction with Lucy (the call with the explosion, her competence during that, the way she is presented to the team with Buck turning around to look at her, the Speed reference vs the Top Gun one) was meant to highlight something about Buddie's partnership or a genuine attempt at making her introduction be as succesful as Eddie's?
Hi Nonnie! Thank you so much for the question!
I do think they wanted to make her introduction... one to make people pay attention, if nothing else. Lucy's introduced at the same time Greenway is. Many times, shows create contrasting parallels (think mirror images: they're the same in being the exact opposite of each other) and I think that's what Greenway and Lucy were meant to be. Lucy comes in all cocky, but her saving a woman thanks to a stroke of luck instead of thanks to her skills humbles her, while Greenway comes in seemingly humble, but we'll discover before the end of the season that he has a God complex.
Despite making Lucy seem arrogant at first, the show does seem to want us to like her, so it makes sense to parallel her to Buck's character in s1. Seeing their similarities will help in establishing the kiss in 511, still make Lucy more likable to the audience than she would have been without that similarity to Buck, and it also serves to show us how much Buck himself has progressed since his Buck 1.0 days to where he can mentor her in 514, both because he used to be where she is, and because he's not there anymore.
Is her introduction meant to parallel Eddie's? I tend to think if it did a bit, it might not have been intentional. Yes, she's competent. Yes, she's introduced to the team through Buck (just like Eddie was), but I think that's at least in part due to trying to sell her to the audience while also paving the way for the 511 kiss. Yet, even if it's not intentional, it does end up showing (as contrasting parallels do) the differences between Lucy and Eddie. She's competent, yes. But Eddie was SO incredible, it really got a reaction out of Buck. And at the same time, Eddie was interested in Buck, he was kind and complimentary (despite Buck being a bit of a jerk at the gym), and he saw Buck. Eddie full on told him he's a badass under fire, while the rest of the team were still babying Buck a bit, and teasing him, no matter how good of a firefighter he was proving to be. That's not the case with Lucy. We never see a moment of profound bonding between them, like the promise to have each other's back that we see with Buddie in 201. And that's despite Buck and Lucy having kissed, so technically they got more intimately acquainted... but not really. Because Buck and Eddie, they opened up their hearts, souls and lives to each other.
So at the end of the day, even though it might not have been quite intention, the way she was introduced and some similarities actually end up highlighting that Buddie really are soulmates and they have been from the very start.
Thank you again for this ask, Nonnie! Have a great day! xoxox
(If you're looking for my ask replies, here is my ask tag! xoxox)
