I’m fairly new to the fandom, but I do have a question if you can answer it! Why do people ship Daigo with Aoki / Masato? I tried looking to see if they’ve interacted before, but couldn’t find anything! Sorry for asking I’m just </3 dumb AND I LOVE YOUR ART OF THEM!!! Nerd looking ahhhhhh
hi ! welcome to the community i hope you're having a lovely time so far and ty for enjoyin my stuff :) no need for apologies it's a very fair question to have :]
i cant speak for everyone (all. ten people into masadai anyway) but Personally To Me i just think the idea of them together is very funny. thats quite literally it im afraid..
#snap chats#//twenty page google doc in the background// ignore that. it's mostly for comedic purposes#might also be my fault idk sorry about that. allegedly. idk ive had like three people tell me they started to ship them cause of me 🧍‍♂️#@mementoasts is another person who's drawn masadai and whose stuff i love and am inspod by .. i love their disneyland fic sm ...#there was another artist on twitter who posted a neat drawing of them but i cant remember who they were and i didnt bookmark it //screams//#recently there's been ANOTHER masadai artist ive started following on twitter - @wifekiryu. his account's n/s/f/w fyi before you go looking#he has a tumblr too @foxdies. i say cause i realized as much recently vjeaKLGJALKGJ#oh but I GUESS ill get deeper into why. /i/ personally ship masadai or whatever#first off they're opposing factions yet their character alignments Do Not Match their roles. stereotypically anyway#aoki who leads the 'surface' of society and is meant to be an admirable figure and someone 'just' when really. he sucks LMAO#though that's not atypical of politicians but just from a stereotypical This Is A Respectable Individual perspective of his role#daigo on the other hand leads the 'underbelly' of society- yk comprised of dangerous criminals and outcasts and whatnot#yet as we know him daigo's compassionate and considerate of his men- he doesnt treat them like tools like aoki does#if put in a room with the two daigo would be most people's choice of person to hang out with. probably open a trapdoor on aoki tbh#and i think thats really cool and epic i always love that kinda Subverting Expectations thing#theres also the fact they both started off like. edgy/angsty in the franchise and then brush up down the line#masato does a stronger 180. publicly. obviously but its still really funny they both have to get their act together#if you wanna talk about in-text reasons. there really is none LMAO I TELLS YOU masadai is pure crack#but if i wanted to pull a muscle reaching then there's daigo being on aoki's side while everyone else is on arakawa's during the funeral#im lying of course. mitsu was behind him. rgg tryna make me forget mitsu exist .... put him back in y8 ....#and ofc ichi joins that side to even out the seating but moving on another Goofy Reason is arakawa being like#'the chairman and my son are like p much the same age Surely he knows how he thinks :)'#and then i just think daigo being all smarmy about outsmarting aoki is really goofy and im choosing to interpret that as personal#they both also have issues with their dad. s. dad/s/. anyway.#tbh the google doc tag was a joke but i really could sit here and list every dumb reason why i think theyre funny together#like i started going over the tag limit so uhhhh yeah needless to say i have a lot of. dumb reasons 💀💀💀💀#one day ill use the main text for long rambles like this but todays not that day Point Is my imagination is rampant im afraid#so the short and sweet of it is I Think It's Funny. And They'd Be Terrible Together. Which Is Why It's Funny.#and the unfortunate part is anything i find funny i obsess over for a year so. //gestures to the mountain of bullshit thats my masadai tag/

Lin Kuei Sibling Headcanons
Tumblr media
I gotta stop using the same gifs over and over again. Anywho, just random headcanons about them when they were younger. A few of these is what my siblings and I did but listen-. No sad shit this time around, but next time issa wrap no bun (word to CoryXKenshin)
When they were younger Bi-Han realized someone was drinking his shit, so he started spitting in it
He also loudly announces that he did so and that whoever drank his shit was drinking his germs
Kuai Liang responded by saying “well we both share the same DNA”
Revolting. Yuck.
Tomas smiles when he's nervous so people always think he's lying.
“Did you drink my slushy?” “No” “Yes you did. You're smiling” “YOU'RE MAKING ME NERVOUS”
D if you ever see this, I did not drink that fucking slushy years ago and getting mom involved was actually so foul. “Put that on my dead granny”, WHY WOULD I LIE ON GRANDMA? I SHOULD'VE drank it. Should've took a big ass gulp
Moving on-
Like I said in my last post, Bi-Han and Kuai Liang have definitely jumped Tomas before
They call it play fighting, Tomas calls it attempted murder
Bi-Han is the “come here” brother and Tomas is the “you're gonna hit me” brother
Bi-Han is also the “you want a cookie?” and Tomas is the “what'd you do to it?”
Speaking of those two, the real reason Bi-Han doesn't like Tomas is because Tomas would stand in his doorway and when Bi-Han would tell him to get out, Tomas would say “I'm not in your room”
Kuai Liang would put his finger close to Bi-Han but say he's not touching him
That's the real reason he betrayed them. It's true. I asked him.
Idk which one them does it but one of these mfs puts the cereal box in front of them to ignore the brother they're mad at
Tomas is “your dad is pissing me off”, Kuai Liang is “lmao what happened?”
Bi-Han’s room is the chill out spot against his will
Kuai Liang has accidentally set someone on fire 100% and they never let him live it down (my siblings did that on purpose but scooting right along) (no one died😃)
Tomas is the victim of white jokes. He'll say smth and here comes Bi-Han “why are you?? speaking?? to me?? as a white person?? go eat salt??”
Kuai Liang is “hey can I have a bite?” and Bi-Han says “sure” then licks all over whatever he has.
“Tuesday is my day with the TV” “you're adopted. shut up”
Bi-Han has gotten the other two into several fights ‘cause he has a bad temper and his siblings ride for him
This one time my sister yelled at a teacher for yelling at me and that's Bi-Han. Like yeah, he's not the nicest as an adult but as a kid? The only mf that's allowed to yell at his brothers is HIM.
They've all gotten whooped because none of them snitch on each other. This is a ride or die brotherhood (for now) (not me tho. My mom got a heavy ass hand. You're on your own)
“Tell your brother to do those damn dishes” “you want me to say it like that? with the curse word?” “go ahead”
Whoever it is goes to their brother and- “dad said get your big nasty ass up and clean those motherfucking dishes before he whoops your skinny long neck ass”
I cannot pinpoint who exactly would do this and risk the whooping so imma just say they've all been guilty
Bi-Han and Kuai Liang are those annoying ass kids asking you to play bloody knuckles. If you don't get the fuck away from me-
Tomas played with Kuai Liang once and quit immediately
Kuai Liang is the “I only had a cup” when the juice is all gone. Yeah, you had a big ass cup you get from Super America. The Minute Maid is gone because of you
Bi-Han and Kuai Liang, “Say Fuck, I'm not gonna tell dad”. Tomas says “no” and the day he does say it now he's being blackmailed
Kuai Liang would help Bi-Han look for shit he knows he took. Y'all may think Kuai Liang would never do such a thing. He's so sweet. THAT'S HOW HE GOT AWAY WITH IT!
When they accidentally really hurt the other and hear their parents, they have different reactions. Bi-Han is the “tell them. I don't care. Actually, I'll tell them for you” brother. Kuai Liang is the “wait wait wait, calm down. Stop crying. Look, you can hit me back. You want candy?” brother. Tomas is the “that was actually an accident. My bad” brother.
Tomas actually learned all that smoke… magic… uhh… shit so he could defend himself cause he was getting ragdolled in that house
Kuai Liang is actually really nice to Tomas now cause he looks back and thinks “wow, I was kinda an asshole”
For example, Tomas was living his life and here comes these maniacs grabbing him and putting his bare feet in the snow
Idk, I just really think Tomas was fighting for his life in that house
It was all in love but now he jumps when they move a little too fast
Tomas tells his brothers he loves them a lot because he wasn't able to tell his birth family before they were killed. He wants them to always know and whenever their time does come, he wants it to be the last thing they hear from him or the last thing he says before he dies.
Kuai Liang usually says it back or says something else comforting. His way of saying “I love you” can be something as simple as a hand on the shoulder. Sometimes instead of saying “I love you”, he says “I care about you”. Personal preference
Bi-Han used to say “I love you” back but as time passed, he stopped. He's someone who gets kinda uncomfortable when it comes to vulnerable emotions. His way of saying “I love you” is “are you hurt?”. It's usually only used after a form of combat but combat can make you realize that your life is on a time limit. We saw in game and by intro dialogues that he was hurt by Kuai Liang not sticking by him. The idea that he doesn't care for his family AT ALL I think is false. I think he cares but he cares about his own goals more.
That's all I got for fluffy shit rn
I’m actually someone who enjoys angst way more than fluff but thinking about them and angst makes my heart fall into my ass … imma write some later tho

Mario & Luigi Brothership trailer stuff I noticed (part 2)
Tumblr media
There's a lot going on here. First, the hammer buttons are X and Y instead of A and B. This will make it so much faster to use hammers in the overworld. Second, the split-screen with the bros being apart and one activating platforms for the other is just like Partners In Time when the babies would hit blocks to control the direction of platforms for the adults. The hammers in that game were also used with X and Y so that's something to think about. Maybe there will be other gameplay inspiration from Partners In Time at other points.
Tumblr media
Peach joined a gang. They're all wearing the same orange thing (idk the name of it). Nice to see that she hasn't been kidnapped. That can only mean that a very intricate plot is in store if it strays from revolving around rescuing her.
Tumblr media
This non-pig has replaced Starlow as there were no signs of her anywhere. I'm thankful that we're getting a new companion. Before Starlow was Stuffwell the suitcase and now we have Snoutlet. I wonder if they all have S names on purpose. I'm looking forward to seeing the personality and lore of this creature. I'm hoping that it makes a "when pigs fly" type of joke at some point.
Tumblr media
Bowser is back but most likely isn't going to be a major part of the story like in Superstar Saga. The shy guy ships are also resembling their designs from Bowser's Inside Story which I love. I can't wait to see what Bowser will get up to.
Tumblr media
If anyone in the trailer is the main villain, it has to be this guy. Really gives Count Bleck vibes. It would be a cool twist if he turned out to be a good guy. It would confuse so many people. "He looks so evil! Why is he helping us???"
Tumblr media
Good to see that the 3D version of the shell move is back. It's so much more dynamic and properly uses the 3D landscape. Not much else to say about it. We all knew that they would bring some version of the shell kick as a bros move. It's been a tradition since Partners In Time. Every game since has had it. Even Superstar Saga had a similar thing in the form of kicking a shelled enemy at other enemies in a counterattack.
That's all I can think of to say about the trailer. I'll post if I think of anything else. Cheers!

"What if Perseus is Makarov's father??" I said, jokingly.
And so begins my quest of finding whether or not how logical this theory could be.
And well...
I don't think it's a joke anymore lmao.
It really is unsettling how truly similar they are.
In certain ways.
Before we begin, let's clarify something here.
Since AV de-aged reboot Makarov, this theory only make sense if you pair Perseus with the OG Makarov. Why? Because Perseus died of cancer in 1983.
Since we have yet to know how old is the new Makarov, I'm gonna assumed he's around Price's age. At least I hope so. Idk how I'm gonna feel if they decides to make him late 20s. He's gotta be born either in 1985 or younger than that. At least that's what he looks like. So, there's no way Perseus could be his father.
Now, the OG Makarov though......
Let's go through this points by points.
He was born in 1970. October 4th, to be precise (at least according to Soap's journal). There's no indication or mentioned siblings in his record. Parents or whatsoever. I have my own personal HC on this but that's another essay.
Perseus himself doesn't have any canon date of birth and place of birth. Let's assume he was born in, maybe, around the year of 1918. I was gonna go ahead and make him the same age as Adler (1937). But according to this modelling mugshot pose he pulls photo,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If he looks this scrumptious old during 1960, then he's gotta be at least 42 years old. That would make him 52 when baby Mak was born in 1970.
"Isn't he a little old to be a dad at that age?" Uhhh not really. Especially given his situation, my dude was constantly on the move busy doing spy shit all over the world. He was young, patriotic. So, perhaps domestic life wasn't exactly on his mind at the time being or just haven't found the one yet. My guess is, he found someone in 1968/1969 yada yada fall in love yada yada get married yada yada and boom baby Mak was born in 1970. Whether they settled for one kid or more, that's up to your interpretation.
Now, in terms of looks, I don't think they're exactly copy paste. We know that Mak has Heterochromia. Perseus had blue eyes and Makarov's mama must've had green eyes.
If we want to compare their pictures, let's start with in-game model.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ehhh I'd say they score about 75-80% in terms of appearance alikeness. Big ass forehead? Check ✅️
Now, if you put Perseus real life model and Makarov MW3 model..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah okay score about 95%. Especially the eyebrow scrunch thing.
Perseus was 6 ft'2. Our boi on the other hand was 5 ft'11. My dude did not inherit the tall genes unfortunately.
Perseus and Makarov both had comradeship with Imran Zakhaev.
Zakhaev looked up to Perseus, claiming him to be "a mentor, having played a part in radicalizing his attitude towards the West."
As for Makarov, we know how much he looked up to Zakhaev. He did took him in during the lowest point of his life and gave him a purpose. Something he lost when he was forced to discharge from the military. Zakhaev's protégé. Zakhaev's executioner.
However, Perseus and Mak share one common trait; their methods were frowned upon by Zakhaev.
"Imran, however, soon realized the danger of Perseus's ideas. Believing Perseus's actions would turn the world against the Soviet Union, he prevented Perseus from taking control of a facility in Verdansk, where a chemical agent called NOVA-4 was produced."
"While Zakhaev was grateful to Makarov for saving his life on the day of his assassination attempt, he also kept him in check, possibly due to the fear of Makarov's extreme methods and ambitions, which later proved correct."
It boggles my mind that Zakhaev have the patience to continously kept Makarov's in check for 15 years of their partnership. He's aware of how terrifyingly brutal he is and even though it clearly bothered him, he still kept him around.
This is one of the key points that makes me wonder if Makarov is not just a nobody that he picked off the underworld. Maybe him being Perseus's son is what drives Zakhaev to mentor him and stick with it till the end. Well, at least as long as he could control him. I had no doubt that if Makarov push Zakhaev too far and shows signs of being too out of control, he'll be dead way before Price could wrung his neck.
Speaking of methods,
"Perseus' true plan was to detonate all the American nukes across Europe and have the United States take the fall. Perseus wanted to rebuild Russia from the ashes."
"Makarov's scheme was to initiate the global conflict of World War III, and that was accomplished by massacring a Russian airport and making it look like the US was involved. Later on, he would attempt to nuke all of Europe for Russia to fully invade and rebuild from the ashes."
See the resemblance?
Their speech pattern really parallel each other;
Perseus: Today, we reshape the world.
Makarov: Today, we show the world our true strength.
Perseus: Our motherland is lead by cowards and weaklings.
Makarov: Now our country is run by squabbling lackeys and politicians who can hardly be called patriots.
Perseus: The superpowers will fall, victims of their own greed and corruption.
Makarov: The corrupt talk; while our brothers and sons spill their own blood.
Perseus: We will rebuild Greater Russia from the ashes.
Makarov: Russia will take all of Europe, even if it must stand upon a pile of ashes.
Perseus: They sleep soundly at night, knowing they put on a good parade - but they lack the will to do what must be done.
Makarov: Our enemies believe that they alone dictate the course of history, but all it takes is the will of a single man.
Perseus: The others, however, are still out there. I will finish them off if I have to.
Makarov: I will not rest until I have killed or captured the men who killed Imran Zakhaev.
Perseus: (to Bell) You remember my face don't you?
Makarov: (to Vorshevsky) You know who I am?
Perseus: But have no doubt. These are but temporary losses. We are just getting started, my friend.
Makarov: The road to our future begins here, my friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So in conclusion, it seems that the possibility of them being father and son is really plausible so far.

this isn’t to dig on ur anti zutara post but rather start a discussion.
in my experience, the reason we zutarians don’t like zukka is because of the animosity we get from the fandom. we analyze the subtle details we are given because practically every zuko and Katara interaction in the show is because all of them save the first have some degree of zutara in it. their chemistry- be it platonic or romantic- is undeniable.
and yet, we are told by zukkas and kataangers that we are wrong for shipping the ship. a lot of zukkas sideline the women in atla- sokka is given a lot of Katara’s qualities that are stated in the show (ie: people claiming that sokka is the team dad when he literally confessed that he saw Katara more as his mother than his actual mother), mailee is just there (majority of the mailee fics on ao3 are just them being a side couple in zukka fics), and not to mention comradekatara’s posts from back when they were lesbians4sokka about Katara being homophobic. even if it was a joke, it was something that people took seriously. a lot of the same zukkas are the ones making fun of katara for talking about her mother’s death when that literally happened three times outside of the southern raiders episode.
dont get me wrong, I know that the zutara fandom was absolutely rabid in the early 2000s and that’s where we get our bad reputation, but the only time that we’ve had issues with other people in the atla fandom was when they interacted with our content and it blew up.
Honestly you make some points I agree and disagree with so I'll go one paragraph at a time
1.
I do agree that some zutirans get hate that isn't deserved. I definitely think that a lot of the fandom doesn't like zutartians, I'm part of that group as well (for the most part). I also do think they have chemistry, but more in a way that's more like family rather than lovers.
I think the over-analyzing is a bit too much, I'm overwhelmed every time I see a zutara post. Obviously, some analyzing is okay, I sometimes analyze ships, but I feel like zutartians do it sm that it feels kind of annoying?? Maybe that's just me, but I feel like you don't have to analyze things just to justify your ship. Just ship what you like
2.
I agree with the fact that zukka shippers tend to sideline women in fics. I've def read fics where katara is sort of villanized, and I definitely don't agree with that. A lot of the time, ppl prefer MLM ships to than WLW ship, (which if you ask me, is because ppl prefer male characters to female ones (*cough* misogyny *cough*)(though i dont think most of the misogyny is purposeful))
Idk if it's bc we're in different parts of the fandom, but I've never really seen ppl say that shipping zutara is wrong?? I've seen ppl say they don't like it, and why, but they always state that they don't care if people ship zutara and that they're only stating reasons they personally don't like it.
Perhaps it's because I tend to stay away from the more toxic part of the community because if I see smth I don't like I more often than not just scroll past. But I def believe that their are zukkas who are toxic, but I think some of that is just because ppl are toxic, no matter what fandom you're in.
I can't really speak on kataangers because while I do like the ship, I'm not really in that part of the fandom, so I'm not sure if ppl are unnecessarily mean to zutarians.
(Edit: nvm kataangers can be real assholes, I def believe that they're unnecessarily mean to ppl who dont ship kataang 😒😒)
3.
As for the zutara Fandom in the early 2000s I can't really speak on that bc I didnt watch atla until I wanna say 2017 or 2018. So I don't really know what the fandom was like.
So yeah, that's kinda my take?? Idk I spent like a good while trying to figure out what to say 🤧🤧

hou/se md oc info under the cut if anyone is interested. btw
full name stephen darling but since everyone's referred to by their last name he's called darling. some try to call him stephen instead because idk they're fighting demons (bisexuality) but then he starts doing the same and after calling taub "christopher" one time they all just call him darling without issue
he's trans and considering the show there would be so many jokes about it but he does not care. will purposely go very in-depth about his top surgery and further wishes (or the lack thereof) to make others uncomfortable to get them to stop asking stupid questions
1.69m tall which makes him 3cm taller than taub. funny
gets hired alongside thirteen kutner and taub but gets fired first for being too passive in the diagnostic process but then gets tossed back at house by cuddy after she finds him treating a very sick patient in secret under house's name to get the patient the proper medication. she urges house to hire him because they can "keep each other leashed"
specializes in endocrinology and gynecology and is also a surgeon
sleeps with 90% of the diagnostic team + friends because somebody in this fucking hospital has to
he's very social and likes making friends :) his charisma also helps with getting on a patient's good side which comes in especially handy after several wrong diagnoses or unnecessary tests
good at thinking of alternative methods to get specific test results if the most obvious test can't be done for whatever reason; but at the same time prioritizes the patient's wishes over anything else and will refuse to do something the patient doesn't want even if someone else still tells him to do it
besties with kutner :)

Honestly, best part about watching HotD was that it gave me a free blocklist to weed out any jonsas (because ridiculous number of the green stans seem to be jonsas!) I might've missed the first time around with GoT. But what's absolutely baffling is how many claim to be feminists. I'll go to their blog to block them and their bio will be something like "She/her, feminist" and it's just like... what kind of mental acrobatics do you have to be doing to believe that??
Let's see, shall we? Just off the top of my head, jonsas (and fairly often Sansa's more... "special" stans) like to
Put down Dany and Arya for not being "feminine enough" (i.e. their ideal femininity, which ig means women can't be anything else). As if expecting women to conform to a standard of what's "feminine enough" isn't part of the problem :/
Constantly claim Sansa can't be held accountable for her mistakes because she's a child, but then regularly claim another child is unforgivable for her mistakes and should die for it
Imply (and sometimes even say) that Dany shouldn't be breaking the wheel. You mean the patriarchy? You, an alleged feminist, don't think the patriarchal system ASoIaF has is awful and dumb??
Suggest that Jon is actually going to politically manipulate Dany by pretending to love her but really he's doing it for Sansa. That is... disgusting on more levels than I could count, but I'll simplify it to "wanting to see an ending where a woman is manipulated sexually and then murdered by her male lover when she's no longer useful is gross and you should feel gross" because apparently they can't read at more than a 2nd grade level
Ignore the fact that this already-misogynistic plotline would be, in their dreams, so the man can get together with their favorite woman instead. Because putting down a woman like a dog in favor of another woman isn't bad, apparently
Absolutely hate the fact that Dany is a subversion of the prophecied hero trope because she's the "Princess who was promised". This would be a wonderful twist on the trope instead of the sexist "but actually it was the man all along!" one, which has been done to death already
Crack jokes about Dany being infertile and how that would "make Sansa a better wife for Jon, bc she can give him an heir". Ah yes, implying it's a woman's duty and purpose to have kids and that anyone who can't is broken. Wonderful example of feminist rhetoric, you guys
And this very much extends to the green stans too! Little wonder so many stansas seem to love Alicent, since they're both "women who have to suffer through the patriarchy". Let's see what our precious, definitely-feminist Alicent has done, shall we?
The big one: actively trying to prevent a woman from rising to the Throne so she can be replaced by her son, a man
The son, I should add, being utterly unfit to rule and she knows it (unless she's absolutely fucking stupid, there's no way she could not know Aegon would be a bad king). I mean, he assaulted serving staff, disappears to the slums to watch his bastards fight to the death, and when he was supposed to be king he fled. Rulership material indeed :/ But Alicent seems to think a penis makes him suited to rule despite all that
Straight-up admits that Viserys was less suited to rule than Rhaenys on account of temperament... but then in the next breath ask Rhaenys to help her uphold the male succession that fucked her over, in favor of a man even less suitable for kingship than Viserys was
And on the note of the serving girl... silencing rape victims is not feminist. At all. I recognize HotD's societal standards are different, but idk, they sure like to apply modern standards like war crimes to Dany and Rhaenyra so I think I'll do the same here
Resents Rhaenyra for finding happiness in her own relationships. Look, what happened to her was awful and I felt bad for her, but once she turned around and started putting other women down for not suffering like she did, instead of trying to see the system that caused her suffering ended... that's where she went wrong. (Also I feel like reminding everyone Laenor was gay. Did greens want Nyra to maritally rape her husband?? How dare a woman have an enjoyable sex life)
Book Alicent legitimately hoped that "mayhaps the whore will die in childbirth" because that's absolutely a feminist girlboss thing to say
Look, I have no problem with people liking or even defending either character for some of their actions. Even I'd admit the Greens are fun to watch despite being in the wrong, and that Sansa's bullying means her arc has potential for character growth towards realizing her ideal femininity is wrong. But when their stans start attacking other women for not accepting and conforming to the system? That's why I usually see urls/lots of posts about these characters as a red flag
If you're one of these people and I somehow haven't already blocked you? Please go outside and work on the internalized misogyny a bit before you claim to be feminist

you know, i don't do the super longform posts like i used to, i mean to say, i don't post them anymore, but i still do write looooong ass walls of text, they don't ever make it to my blog. idk. on re-read they all have a very distinctive, unmistakable smell of "bus stop crazy" to them, and even after fixing all the grammar mistakes & forgotten words & etc they graduate from nutcase scribblings to "manifesto"
all those posts go to pastebin, anonymously, and then on to reddit, which is a huge pain, i have to farm throwaway accounts for like a year, not posting at all, before i can post a pastebin link and not have it be spam filtered, just to gauge how accurate my self-assessment is. it doesn't work because nobody reads it, unlike this blog, where 5-6 people read it.
and even that isn't working due to a wild phenomenon. when you write about niche subjects unappetizing to a normal audience, it only really makes its way to the same freaks that you're already friends with. in my case, these are people i've spoken with at great length solely textually over the internet, for like, twenty fuckin years. it probably wouldn't surprise you to know that they can clock something i've written like eight sentences in. and this sucks, it defeats the purpose of trying to hide my Shame Posts from the world with anonymity, so let me tell you what i did.
i tried just, you know, making a conscious effort to write in the most unkremlin way possible, and the result was indifferentiable than something i wrote normally. like, didn't even fool them any longer than otherwise. sure. fine. i guess that isn't interesting. but i wasn't satisfied.
so i call in an owed favor to a buddy that has zero language skills, like, unless you are speaking to him and standing in front of him, every message, regardless of platform, will read like a business email, signature and all. total dingus. he's like 26 & perpetually on welfare, (like all elite programmers) but writes like he's your dad sending email with that fancy corporate-branded-outlooko client that auto-appends some long ass disclaimer to all your email. anyways, that's besides the point, i gave him something i wrote & asked him to rewrite it in his own voice. no dice. "this sounds like something kremlin wrote but he's doing some kind of joke i don't understand, or maybe he got hit in the head". fuck. so i write a WHOLE new thing, not even solely focused on some niche subject that auto-reduces the potential culprits to like 5 people, and i give his ass the broad strokes of what i wrote and asked him to flesh it out. only a marginal improvement. they still nailed me after just a bit more thinking.
so fuck it. i hit up "Gunther" which i don't have the right keys on my keyboard to type properly, there's two dots over the U. gunther is very clearly a german guy, which you can tell on account of him speaking German, and when you speak to him in english, he's all "wast ist das" and shit. so i try giving HIM the broad strokes and having him re-create it, which was an idea/concept he did not grasp fully or understand on account of us not really sharing a language exactly. guess what. it wasn't immediately recognized, at least, it took about an hour for them to deduce i was the author, and at this point i have given up, i have lost because these increasingly cartoon antics have become my signature, and i will never be able to escape the shame of my Weird Bad Writing. they even figured out it was gunther sort-of-ghostwriting it, since it didn't have the quirks of software translation & was sent using some fucking ISO/IEC charset that europeans prefer over utf-8, at least the ones i talk to, for completely unknown reasons. they try and explain it, and i can't figure out what they're talking about, not because i don't speak french & german but because i don't speak ÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈ
i will never -- and this is a solemn promise -- write in any other way than to bang out the whole thing in 1 hour, never organizing anything, never looking backwards even 2-3 words, never *ever* proofreading (i get someone else to do it for me with explicit instructions to only fix grammar & highlight completely incomprehensible gibberish that they couldn't decipher for my reluctant fixing). i will also never stop posting it.

haha yeah remember like way way back maybe 14 years ago or so when there were users on this website who made those "sometimes the curtains are just blue" jokes & caused all media literacy to die forever more haha yeah haha, hi! hi, i was one of those! i killed all literacy, whoopsie!!!! i guess i just simply never ever learned about symbolism or understood any sort of point of anything in media ever again. i know lol i can't understand color or anything ever it just whizzes right over my head to this very day!!!
so, here's some thoughts to share from my perspective. in my case personally, i liked reading back then. i even liked some books that were assigned reading in school & participated with enthusiasm about them in class. there are some people who didn't like reading in general, and almost every time that's actually because they struggle to read. it is something that is incredibly difficult for them to do & not just general laziness or being ignorant forever on purpose. when you hear "i don't like reading" or "i haven't read a book in years" you might not want to gun it to "idiot" because actually, haha, that word's origin also applied to some people that others thought were not smart or worthy of respect because of a certain disability & having greater difficulty than most people to do something they find basic. instead i would recommend thinking "I wonder why that is," because that total lack of sympathy actually just discourages everyone.
anyway, some assigned reading books did not appeal to me, which made me not want to read them but there was this whole "i have to" aspect to it that made me really like the whole thing less somehow. now, to address any commentary: i can absolutely respect if a book is historically imprortant & one of the best ever written, much like all things. music, films, and art are just the same. i do not deny it. however, knowing that cannot make me enjoy something that i just personally do not. conversely, i can recognize & acknowledge when something is terrible & it sucks, but that won't stop me from enjoying it if i do.
something else very important that i think a lot of people have not considered for quite some time: sharing a joke on the internet does not actually mean that you just go to class and say "fuck you. they're just blue." the thing about school is that they give you the choice of figuring some shit out even if you do not want to at all or failing. lots of people mad about this really forget that in school you do school & on the internet you might share a joke. perhaps it is a joke that is very illiterate, even. you like the joke because you maybe really don't want to talk about symbolism in some book you don't want to read in the building you aren't allowed to leave where you spend hours & hours day after day for years being told you have to do a stack of things that you really do not want to by several adults & at least 1/3 of the town's teenaged population is trapped in this same building as you & this all happens at a stage of life where your brain & libido & emotions are cranking up to "nuclear reaction explosion" & down to "should i kill myself?" levels rapidly back & forth all day for a few years & your parents happen to legally own you & your home life is really a custom mix of making life worse generally— for me personally, there was a villain that i knew in that life chapter who was doing cool things like attempted murder so maybe that had some influence on my permanent illiteracy idk... so the joke really just takes the sting out of that whole carousel of shittiness you're experiencing, because you really would like to just not have to think about shit that you don't want to for just a moment, y'know, like just a little. on behalf of all of us, our deepest apologies about the whole destroying all understanding of media forever. not intentional.
now, incredibly, i actually analyzed & thought about many pieces of media at length & with enthusiasm quite often after my brain had settled down from maximum overdrive & i got to own myself & i wasn't in high school & things of such nature. however, i had slowly been declining in my ability to read which had started in high school, but i don't think that was because of a joke i reblogged. i just leveled up in disability on many fronts & reading became, to my dismay, so challenging that i don't read books anymore. i would sure like to. i like short story collections because my brain & my eyes don't fizzle out quite as much if it's little bursts of story instead of a slow burning candle. i also do the best with graphic novels which are an incredible aid for me. the text being broken up & spread out, the illustration accompaniment because when that "can you picture an apple" meme went around, i became aware that i don't make pictures in my head! it did explain why through all my years of reading in hindsight i simply could not picture things in books the way other people did. as a child, i'd read a book & a friend would ask me how i imagine someone/something looked like & unless there was also a film or illustrations, i just didn't! i didn't know what lots of stuff looked like. i wasn't sure how anyone was doing that.
i think that's all i have to say on this topic. i can say i have become friends with some other people over the years who also shared this joke online & they have managed to also have a grasp of media literacy despite a joke they liked in high school. i personally feel like maybe we shouldn't assume that something you thought was funny as a teenager necessarily continued to be representative of the rest of your life. i would also like to offer the idea that media illiteracy has been a problem for a very, very, very long time, & i'm sure this is an issue with quite a lot of factors & might require a pretty complex plan to improve over time that i don't have a lot of faith will happen any time soon. it would require things like "more support" & "teaching children in different ways because no one learns anything the same way" & already I'm hitting lol nah we aren't doing that x2.

I never thought about the multiple variations of when Dorothy was married as Sophia trying to publicly protect her but wow. I do wonder how much Dorothy understands Sophia is protecting her, because there's definitely Complicated Feelings between them and it seems like maybe Dorothy sees Sophia's disappointment/anger first (do they ever mention how Sal felt? I remember Dorothy saying she always thought he wasn't proud of her or something but idk if it was related to her pregnancy ... also gotta wonder how it effected her relationship with Gloria and Phil)
Hii anon! If you'd like a more in-depth take on Sophia protecting Dorothy through the inconsistency of her stories I highly(!!) recommend the lovely @the-eclectic-wonderer 's post on Dorothy's age when she married Stan (I haven't looked the same at Sophia since!)
I've got a lot of things to say about this, so I'm putting my thoughts under the cut to avoid clogging people's dashes haha
I personally think Dorothy doesn't really know the extent of how much Sophia cares for/protects her in those moments (& those moments specifically, because I feel like she's otherwise pretty attuned to the way Sophia shows affection? They've got pretty similar problems around opening up with other people and several of their scenes together show that they've sort of found a way around this!) But their general relationship aside, it's pretty clear in several instances that Dorothy is hurt by Sophia's remarks on her marriage with Stan, her pregnancy, etc — so I can't help but think she's not too aware of what Sophia is doing, trying to help and protect her? Especially when, in a lot of cases, she could've just said nothing and avoided hurting Dorothy entirely; there's usually a less hurtful path involved, but Sophia purposely chooses to make her remarks. Whether or not they're constructed to protect Dorothy in one way or another, she still makes the choice to hurt her too (although, knowing Sophia, I doubt she's fully aware of the effects her words have? Idk, that's some food for thought!)
It seems like this isn't a topic either of them has ever been too willing to discuss, let alone openly and emotionally. Sophia tends to deal with things with jokes and nasty comments, and Dorothy seems to shut everyone out entirely. I'm not sure where I'm going with this exactly haha, but what I'm trying to say is their coping methods are too far apart (and too similar) for the opportunity for any real, constructive conversation about this to have occurred? So maybe Sophia is reaching out to Dorothy in her way (the only way she knows how to) and Dorothy... Well, I think she mentioned it genuinely hurts her at some point (though I'm not sure if that was in response to a Stan-related comment or something else) which I think means we can conclude she doesn't see the deeper layer behind Sophia's behaviour — or maybe she does, but it doesn't take away the hurt?
As for Sal: I believe Dorothy mentioned something about his reaction in S5, E13: Mary Had A Little Lamb. I don't remember her speech in its entirety, but she mentioned something about "Only having one parent [Sophia]" for a while, so I think Sal took it a lot less well than Sophia.
Good point about Gloria and Phil too!! I genuinely have no clue. We do know Dorothy's a lot older than both of them (I think she was 7 when Phil was born, and if I remember correctly, it's implied that he was the middle sibling?) so if Dorothy was 17 when she got pregnant and married Stan, it means Phil and Gloria were 10 and under. She was, by all accounts, An Adult to them already — so it might not have damaged their relationship, so much as changed their perception of her? I'm sure they could've been a lot closer if Dorothy had been allowed to stay at home and be a child for longer than she was. As it is, I can't help but wonder if they ever saw her as their peer or more like an older relative?

"Fun fact" Anon here!
Wow you misunderstood what I was saying so much it's actually kind of impressive. No prob tho, I'd just like to clarify by explaining a bit slower, because I do think the whole thing is fun. In case it needs to be said, my initial ask was partially a response to this anon:
"Idk if this is an unpopular opinion but it annoys me when trolls use the word gay or any kind of LGBT-type language when none of the have a historical or societal context of any of those concepts or words, they think the distinction of sexualities is silly, they wouldn't understand using gay as an insult or a term of endearment, fucking stop it."
What I was saying is that this anon is both right and wrong. Because of a flaw in homestuck's writing, it ends up contradicting itself in such a way that Alternia is implied to have at least the concepts of distinct sexualities one moment, and then not have them the next. I consider that a "fun fact" because sometimes it's fun peeking behind the curtain of how things are written. Like knowing how Tolkien's misspelling of dwarfs as dwarves resulted in the ability to copyright the misspelling. Mistakes happen, and then they result in a distinct identity.
I think it'd be more useful for us to stop thinking and interacting with Alternia as a real place that's being explained to us linearly, and appreciate it as a construct of fiction that's being written linearly. Alternia is innately full of contradiction because it is written that way, sometimes by mistake and but also by purpose. From a writing perspective, if you base an alien society off of your own, it will always be skewed in weird ways informed by your own biases, our reality that we take for granted. In Homestuck's case, Alternia is alternative earth in the many ways the the writer doesn't bother to change, but also differentiated by the ways it does change. It can be intentional or unintentional, but both become canon once they're written and published each update.
Now, the flaw in the writing is because, again, Alternia is a place written, not one that exists and is being described with all factors about itself already known. I bring up the order of pages because that is the order of how the fiction is written and presented. Homestuck is a nonlinear story in which outlines are written ahead of time, so it can organize its nonlinear storytelling, but the writing in the pages themselves are written fairly linearly. In writing we call this macro (outline) and micro (the things like sentences and paragraphs). There's a joke about this in the Simpsons, where Lisa questions how a hamster can write mystery novels, and the answer is that he writes the ending first and works backwards. But that only works in the outline, which can be done in any order. Few people write micro backwards, because it's hard to write the end of sentence before you know the start, it's just not how we do grammar. That's something that the aliens from Arrival (2016) could do.
In hivebent, the micro writing of individual pages are being written with the bias that since Alternia is based on earth, they would naturally have concepts of sexuality as much as they have the concept of gender. Even though Alternia is meant to be very very different, the presence of sexuality and gender are just taken as granted because it's like Earth. Kanaya is initially written to be gay. Feferi is initially written to be straight, and her going out the way to mention same sex attraction implies that this would be in some way the more tolerant option, which wouldn't be necessary if Alternia didn't have distinct sexualities, ergo, it does (at that point). The decision to make Alternia not like Earth in that way just hasn't been made yet.
And then, by coincidence Future Arachnids Grip happens. It's not so vital a joke as to be planned out in advance, but who on earth can ignore all caps FAG when it comes up? It also raises the opportunity for a joke, an opportunity which is swiftly and mindlessly taken in the moment. To continue establishing the trolls as alien, this thing that stands out to the audience is treated as a big whatever by Karkat. The contents of pages a hundred pages ago aren't being factored in or considered. But now, so many pages after trolls having sexualities is established, we're establishing that fag isn't a slur on alternia. Because yeah that's a funny little joke, but the decision to make it retroactively changes the world building which was once just taken as being the same as earth to being one of the things different from earth.
So whoopsie, like so many writers do, you accidentally contradicted yourself. It happens, but now the writing is set in stone, and you just have to start working on the outline of the next Act. The next act being Act 5 Act 2. The Act 5 Act 2 that starts out with Karkat and John's conversation that settles the contradiction and sides with the later joke, because that is the funnier of the two options. The explanation is diegetically addressed to John, but it is exposition to the audience, in case anyone remembers the whole deal those many pages ago.
And btw, the "Not homophobic parent" is the trope of a parent trying to awkwardly indicate that they're totally cool if you're gay by, well, doing exactly as Feferi did and adding the idea of same sex attraction on at the end them asking if you have a gf/bf. Tbh, I think if you don't know what that is, or are at least able to use context clues to take a guess, it makes me question why you so often commentate on LGBTQ+ stuff. Because no offense, it seems you aren't proficient enough in the most basic of concepts to speak so critically. If you didn't know what it is, that's really the kind of thing you ought be reading the comic for, to better understand certain LGBTQ+ experiences.
It's because some of the context behind it isn't fully related to LGBT type of themes. Most of it is based on projection. Feferi's condescending (get it ha) to people like Eridan shouldn't be that read that deep. It's just reaching at this point. At best for Feferi's arc if Hussie didn't treat her like shit, is that she accepts that Sollux left her for Feferi, Eridan is shit (no duh), and none of her other friends like Karkat, Kanaya, or Terezi gave a shit about her death and only found solace in Nepeta because of their mind fused together as a kernelsprite. It's not so much about romance as it is just that Feferi had been surrounded by shitty people and needs to associated with better ones she can trust. Slurs do exist, but in the form for things like race, not sexuality. Like how Mituna called Meenah a 'chumbucket' and 'wader' in Openbound. There probably is something equivalent to the N-word in Alternia. But nobody knows what it could be and the fandom is too scared to try and come up with one. Unless Chumbucket or Wader is the actual N-word for sea dweller trolls. Cause then that means Mituna just called Meenah a damn dirty nigga Part of Alternia's messy worldbuilding is because Hussie likes to make shit up on the fly if he thinks it is funny or awesome. That's why we even have the description of the classes for the aspects being so freaking short because Andrew Hussie didn't think much through. I also would never think Alternia is an alternative Earth. That stuff from their world should never be practiced in real life. From hemospectrum and of course, quadrants. The writing makes it a point how fucked up it is and how accepting and normalized it is within the troll group. Them playing Sgrub is trying to teach them how to move on from such beliefs and move on to build a new world on their own without it. Not like twelve trolls ruling over humans would be any better, but it's not as worse as Sea Queen Hitler and the shit she did to Earth. Is there a fanventure or fanfic that explores the Beta Trolls actually reaching their goal after Sgrub and took over Earth? I wanna see that. The John and Karkat moment was also meant to be as a joke as well to tell the audiences it WAS a joke that Karkat purposely called Vriska a FAG with no remorse. John and Karkat being mouthpieces and examples to tell that whoever was angry when that joke happened pages ago, can go fuck themselves. Most of jokes in Homestuck is made to say "fuck you" to the audiences to get a reaction out of anybody.

I think your OC Nicholas is based lol. He definitely knows who to respect and who to ignore. Strong aura fr hahaha
Idk if there is a post about specific relationships with other contestants aaaand an explanation, why he treats a person like he does, but I’d really like to hear a little of his reasoning on that topic :P
If it’s ok ofc, no pressure
omg anon i love u you reminded me that i never posted nick's like/dislike chart on here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
some notes below the cut!! I hope they're detailed enough to answer your question but if you'd like even more explanation then feel free to message or send another ask^^
1. yes nick and pav dislike one another. YES they also have a crush on each other; they're legally/politically enemies to lovers but neither can bring themselves to actually hate the other. nick dislikes loud people because he likes to be the centre of attention and be the one doing the talking BUT i think he'd still like pav because i think pav is the extrovert until a REAL extrovert enters the room. then he's quiet as a rat, thinking and listening. so i think nick would actually end up liking him.
2. nick and henryk know each other! nick frequently ate at henryk's parent's tavern and loves his cooking; he asked to meet the chef after a few visits and they sat and drank and talked for hours after closing. henryk admires nick as a person, even if he has mixed feelings on his occupation.
3. nick and daan also know, like, trust and admire one another for the roles that they played in the army. nick moreso than daan just because of how incredibly valuable daan was to his soldiers. they banter with each other in the typical BritishHumour way when they see each other on the train.
4. even though nick dislikes karin for how brash and blunt she is (he actually thinks she lacks a lot of tact), he trusts that she is an honest person who is actually out to seek the truth. karin doesn't trust him in turn though because he's just another army dog
5. nick loves levi. he just does. i think he pities levi a lot and would do anything he could to prolong or make his life better, even if it meant sacrificing himself. nick joined the army of his own volition at 15, so it hits him extra hard that levi never wanted to, especially so young; he reminds nick of all his own foot soldiers, older than levi but still terrified out of their minds. levi on the other hand is neutral at best towards nick, and slightly fearful and annoyed at worst. nick talks too much... but it's kinda nice to have someone just blabbering away like white noise. he also finds nick off-putting (which nick does on purpose to freak him out)
6. same as olivia, nick freaks her out on purpose by asking which plants are poisonous to humans specifically and how much is fatal... she pales and nick puts up his hands like "im just joking~" she's an easy target for his teasing because she's just really sweet. he genuinely likes her! he likes kind people and she is the epitome of that.
7. feel like samarie would dislike him because he talks too much, but honestly they don't interact much.
8. nick and caligura hate each other because nick doesn't shut up and loves small talk, and nick finds caligura's attitude repulsive.
9. nick finds o'saa interesting, but also gets slightly irked when he goes on one of his tirades, especially if it's concerning levi. im honestly not sure what o'saa would think of nick, so ill say they're neutral towards one another.

i think about your kendallroyfication of gojo at least once a week
*gazes longingly at the succession poster on my wall*
its impossible to compare two icons against one another but i will say gojo would cope better than kendall ever did. only he suffers a fate worse than not becoming ceo. (i would have wanted satoru to have it, his name is on the building people, it was literally named the GOJO deal. wake up.)
do you think he's ever stomped his tiny foot down exclaiming "i am the honoured one!" when his favourite double XL digimon t-shirt had been confiscated in exchange for yet another haori because he insists on wearing it to every formal event. who cares about a tea ceremony with the royal family, he needs everyone to know about his beloved agumon.
some corrections should be made, he doesn't actually drown himself in a fishbowl's worth of alcohol because he's not even a fan of it. not a single drop. pure dislike. gojo's infamous creator has unfortunately disclosed that information after i decided to turn him into an alcoholic slash drug addict slash rehab enthusiast. yes, he's been to a few. so we'll just have to believe he'd deal with the pain of privilege in other ways. makes you wonder how much of a bore satoru actually is when he doesn't drink, doesn't fuck, only takes drugs when he has a boo boo, and most probably spends that allocated funding for idk...parfaits and sanrio themed desserts. saccharine and colourful, unlike the kind geto likes which are reminiscent of red beans and taro.
there's a nice place somewhere in ginza they frequent. although 'nice place' is rather generous considering suguru calls it a "piece of shit chain with the best fucking ohagis in japan." satoru rolls his eyes because geto says the same thing about everything he tries. the novelty doesn't last very long before he gets bored. rice crackers, pain au chocolat, satoru's actual body and soul for like three years in college.
ugh, that's a can of worms he doesn't want to unleash on a depressing and grey rainy morning. he's got no time for this when he really needs to get suguru's opinion on what to do about bankruptcy. something about his father borrowing billions of dollars. whatever it's complicated and the asshole had never really cared for consequences. gojo doesn't need to remind the world of his father's iron fist and small ego. but he explains just enough of the situation to geto. in corporate jargon with an eerily uncharacteristic 'i'm in deep shit' tone. he's never been one to panic.
"so what do you think?" he rushes geto for an answer and to the untrained eye, geto seems like he's hardly listening because he's busy tsk-ing and rolling his eyes at the servers who are obviously ignoring his request for extra napkins. not that they're busy with the morning rush or anything. 'they just hate me because i'm pretty' yeah yeah, we know suguru. your face card is platinum and so are your graff rings. please. you're perfectly capable of getting your own napkins. (it's purpose is less to do with wiping the crumbs off his lips and more as a buffer between his oh-so-sensitive hands and this piping cup of tea. you want me to touch this cup? with my bare hands?preposterous. it's filthy!)
"what if we came in, took the whole thing off your family's hands," geto suggests like it were so simple and not at all a ploy to bring gojo's family to ruins. that's the thing with suguru. he doesn't know how or why he says these things so casually.
jokes aside, he genuinely wonders if his best friend even likes him. there's this awkward tension to prove they're more than just two guys who get coffee every week. maybe if he stared at him for a second or two longer, he'd give in and comfort satoru like no one else in the universe ever had or will be able to.
they leave with umbrellas in hand and coats that are so expensive it's the same price as a car. or a down payment on a house. not that they'd know. they don't pay for these things like normal people do. satoru doesn't have a thing for labels, too gaudy, too showy. it comes off as some stealth-wealth bullshit but the truth is he won't admit his mother buys his clothes for him and now, that task has fallen into suguru's authority.
this might be a good time to note that he's barely gotten a pastry for himself. and the news of his father's company has yet to hit the headlines. it's enough to drag him out of his thoughts and back to reality before he smirks and shoots geto a sweet little "yeah? go fuck yourself." turning his suggestion down.
suguru laughs cheerily and it's so beautiful the clouds part for a ray of sun to catch the droplets off the edge of canopy shielding geto's profile. "you know i'd never...i'm on your side, toru," he whispers so fondly. a soft, gentle pull of syllables masking something he knows geto is dying to add to that sentence.
right then, they reach the street crossing where they usually part. he wants to ask him for more advice, more options, something that'll stop him from staring down the glass panes of high-rise windows. "i'll figure something out," suguru assures him, leaning in close because they wouldn't want any spies to hear, and leaves a kiss on his lips tasting like tea and glutinous rice.
satoru's gonna be sick.

Do you have any hot tales about tsn?
tsn hot takes ??? gosh, idk if they're hot takes but i have opinions?
i'm sorry to rpf on main but 'andrew garfield was in love with jesse eisenberg' is a hilll i'm going to die on.
similarly, andrew garfield played eduado as in love with mark and watching the movie through that lens enriches the whole experience. fight me.
tsn deserved to win best picture in 2011. out of all the nominees that year, it's the one that has only gained relevance as time passes and had something to say about our culture, both back then and right now. i think it's almost more relevant now than back then. its social commentary on the way we live our lives on the internet is pretty spot on. i mean 'the internet is written in ink'. give me one line better from another movie that year. we lived on farms then we lived in cities and now we're gonna live on the internet?? damn.
this isnt an opinion, more like an observation? back in 2010, people complained about the harsh depiction of zuck but he's worked so hard to prove the movie not only right but also now it almost reads as mild compared to who that guy actually is. it's fascinating in terms of tsn's cultural legacy. where's that one quote from that article about tsn turning 10 yo? the movie couldn't predict what facebook would turn into (in terms of misinformation and manipulation of information) but it understood that the desire to tear down the establishment is not the same as the wish to build something better in its place? anyways, that.
it has one of the greatest soundtracks ever. i don't think any movie has topped it since. that opening sequence with hand covers bruise? holy shit.
i always wonder if it does enough to condemn the elitist misogynistic culture of those rich harvard guys/those rich tech guys. like... i always joke that it's one of my 'ooops the filmmakers forgot women were people' favourite films (i have a few of those) but at the same time, it feels very pointed and purposeful in its depiction. and we know that fincher has a history of exploring toxic masculinity as a theme without explicitly condemning it and trusting his audience to get the message. which, honey, men are not smart. i mean, we get the iconic erica moment telling us from the start 'it'll be because you're an asshole' and then the movie proceeds to prove that to us. but is that enough? is the movie sexist or is the character? or both? i don't know i kinda go back and forth on this. again not a take, just thoughts.
i read this one letterboxd review like a year ago that said something along the line of: best movie of all time they have him tell us ' i don't want friends' in the first eight minutes and it blew my fucking mind. they literally tell us in the first eight minutes, aaron sorkin i just want to talk.
i love him and would kill for him, but eduardo telling mark 'i was your only friend you had one friend' was not only untrue but kinda manipulative. not that mark didn't deserve it.
high key this is one of the most quotable movies of all time. did you know i sent forty-seven texts???
there are whole worlds of unsaid things in the 'you have no idea what that's going to mean to my father' 'sure i do' i am OBSESSED with their relationship.
eduardo's bitchy 'is he?' when sean says he's wired in before the laptop smash is just as, if not more, iconic than the rest of the speech.
andrew was robbed of both a nomination and an oscar for this performance. i stand by it.
2011 golden globes jesse eisenberg dragging andrew gafield out of his chair top awards moment of all time. you had to be there.
people will bitch about tsn rpf and people writing fic about mark zuckerberg but where would we (tumblr) be as a society without jesse and andrew's 'you didn't know me at 13' 'i really wish i had'. where would your pining web-weaving fandom posts be without mr garfield's embarrassingly public crush on his facebook movie co star? check and mate.
genuinely think it would have solved a lot of their problems if mark and eduardo had fucked. or it would have created other different problems. either way, a win.
we all know it should have ended with mark sending eduardo a friend request. literally the only flaw in this film.
i honestly think the tsn press tour is on like... lotr bts footage level in terms of ~as enjoyable if not more than the original film. and i don't say this lightly. it's one of the highest praise i've got.
i'm a basic bitch but every single scene of mark defending eduardo post-betrayal is like.... [SCREAM]
it IS the greatest divorce movie of our time. marriage story fucking wishes mate.
tsn is 100% a girl movie. like red flag for men green flag for women (& gnc people) kind of stuff.
it's on par with all of shakespeare's best tragedies. for me.
lmao when i read this ask i thought damn i won't have much to say and now i have to stop myself because my food is ready and i'm starting. anyways this is barely scratching the surface. i might come back for a part two?

fanfic writer questions
Thanks for the tag, @foibles-fables!
1- How many works do you have on AO3?
29!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
286,054!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Most frequently, Critical Role, though I still have a few WIPs in Horizon and Stray Gods that I absolutely intend to get back to eventually.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
I'm fudging this question a bit, because the lower three are all the same series from back when I first started writing two years ago. Unsurprisingly, Sing for Me (SG, Rated E) and Prometheus Bound (HFW, Rated M) are the heavy hitters, followed by the Tilda POV series with a slightly more modest kudos count. After that comes Through Eyes of Grace (SG, Rated T) and Mutually Assured Destruction (HFW, Rated E).
5. Do you respond to comments?
I do! I think the only fic I didn't respond to most comments was When the Darkness Comes, since it was 30 chapters posted all at once. It somehow felt like skewing the stats (which I realize is silly; I'll likely respond to all comments on any on-going long-fics, after all). But yeah, I like to lavish love and gratitude and enthusiasm onto commenters, since they go out of their way to do the same for my stories~
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Prometheus Bound BY FAR.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably my entry for the Horizon Rare-Pair Round Up event: Radiance.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not to my face or in my fic comments. Or even out in the wild very much, to my knowledge.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yep! Enemies to enemies who FUC- I mean, lovers. A lot of focus on zoomed in physicality details and hard feelings from characters who would rather do anything than acknowledge their feelings (like idk hate fuck it out). I joke but I also have some softer smut for Stray Gods and my Moon Moms AU.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I never have!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Also not that I know of.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not yet, but my lovely friend @inomakani and I now have multiple fic ideas/drafts we like to scream at each other about, and we'll write them together as well, one day~
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
Do I even have to say it? I mean, I will happily shout it from the rooftops: IMOGEN/OTOHAN!
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Hmmm... There's an old draft called "Aloy is ticklish" that was a fluffy lil Aloy and the GAIA Gang+Talanah one-shot that I likely won't dust off ever again for no particular reason.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Succinct-ish but evocative setting description, I like to think. Internal feelings, and how they're expressed externally through small details in body language. And Tension, of course.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Dialogue; "would they say that??" is a recurring question for me.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I would do so if needed for characterization purposes!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Horizon! Specifically, Horizon Forbidden West!
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Oh wow that's a hard one... Since I'm in the midst of plotting (and now writing!) its sequel, I'll say Let Me Lay Waste to Thee. It's my first (well, thee first) Imogen/Otohan fic that kicked off my love for this beautifully fucked up ship :3
It's a free for all tag, folks! So feel free to snag and tag me~
