Honestly I have so much to say about her. so much. so here's some of it

-Asajj (NOT VENTRESS THAT'S HER LAST NAME ISTG PEOPLE JUST HATE USING HER ACTUAL NAME AND IDK WHY I GUESS IT'S A COOL NAME BUT ASAJJ IS ALSO A COOL NAME AND)

-Asajj was last seen in canon in the Dark Disciple novel. Where she died. I would never recommend that book to anyone so if you haven't read it yet please don't. In short, after becoming a Bounty Hunter in The Clone Wars she grew out her hair, got a cool yellow Lightsaber and for some reason teamed up with Quinlan Vos to try and kill Dooku. They didn't manage to do it. And Asajj died (was fridged) trying to protect Quinlan. The Bad Batch will not contradict that, as was said by the creators. So this is just a summary for anyone who hasn't read it because I wholeheartedly believe that book is bad

-I have not watched a single Bad Batch episode in my life. As a disclaimer. I started the first one, watched their TCW arc and saw memes screenshots clips and spoilers but I do not know this show. I will watch it now that Asajj's there tho

-She does not have the same outfit anymore! It's a change, and we haven't gotten a clear look at her new design so idk how to judge it yet. Might be to look less recognizable, but it has a very different vibe than any of her prior outfits. There's a leftover shoulder pad and probably some other stuff from her last design but I feel like they kinda clash with the new one and tbb's design language in general. The Bounty Hunter look has a very TCWish feel to it and this one is a sharp turn in another, much more casual direction. I'm not inherently against it but I guess we'll see how it looks in action soon

-In my opinion the hair looks like shit. I don't think she should have hair ever. I don't understand why she can't be bald. Why is she bald when she's evil and has hair when she's a padawan (good) and when she is "redeemed"? guess we'll never know. It's a leftover from the cancelled Dark Disciple TCW arc design (and the Dark Disciple cover and promotional material ofc) and it's bad if you ask me but to each their own and if you like it good for you

-Her Lightsaber!!!!! Same case as the hair in terms of irl development but I like it so much better. The yellow just fits her character and it's pretty. Would love for her to find another one and get back to dual-wielding (I know that won't happen)

-The bag and pouches make me so happy as a design element do you think she carries a (tooka) cat in there

-Now, visually she looks great and the animation style is smoother and nicer than TCW (as is the quality), but what about the direction the character's going in? I didn't like her being dead before, but I felt like it was somewhat better than her being shoved into being a cameo character in new content. If you can't touch her after a certain point, you also can't mess her up. But I do wonder where they're going with her. A few questions:

-Asajj in canon is a directionless character. Also, a partially nonsensical and inconsistent character in her choices and storylines. I've talked about it a lot but in short she just feels messy. What's her purpose in life? Her motive? Her origin story doesn't really make sense, even. She's a Bounty Hunter, sure, but why? If all she wants is revenge on Dooku and maybe money (which was pretty much the case in Dark Disciple), what's she doing after the Empire? And more importantly, why?

-Obviously, the question I haven't asked yet because I don't like it: How the fuck is she alive? Nightsisters have a weird relationship with death but seriously, how?

-She's a Force User after the Rise of the Empire now, so what does he do about that? Is she founding The Path? Fucking around and finding out? Making a not-Jedi-not-Sith order with other force users she finds? Is the Empire after her? Do they know she's live?

-What about her girlfriend? Is Latts Razzi safe? Is she alright?

-Why is she in The Bad Batch show? Are we making her into a cameo character or is there a purpose? Why'd they bring her back? For fun? What is she doing after the show? Floating in dead space? Cameo-ing? Will we have a book?

-OK enough for tonight but if we see Quinlan Vos in the show I'll become violent (/neg). We probably will (he might just get mentioned idk).

okay so i don't really have a point to make over here but i've been thinking about this a lot lately so here we go: ever notice how alex tends to use a lot of dance-related words as metaphors for sex but almost always undercuts the image of elegance/beauty that might evoke using interesting juxtapositions and wordplay??

in piledriver waltz (submarine ep, 2010; also reprised for suck it and see, 2011) he writes "i heard the piledriver waltz// it woke me up this morning". now 'piledriver waltz' here refers to someone having sex (atleast the contributors at genius think so and so do i). turner uses the word waltz- an intimate ballroom dance between two partners- but adds piledriver- which is, as wikipedia tells me, "a professional wrestling driver move in which the wrestler grabs their opponent, turns them upside-down, and drops into a sitting or kneeling position, driving the opponent head-first into the mat". so you see, the refined, elegant, romantic connotations of waltz is contrasted with the image of rough ruthlessness that piledriver brings.

(ALSO also did you notice? a wrestling reference? all the way back in 2010 👀 now idk if it's a regular vocab words or specific to wrestling-lingo only back in uk, but my studied-english-as-first-language-in-school-but-not-native speaker ass did have to google what the hell that means)

another such oxymoron-esque treatment of metaphors for sex we see in everything you've come to expect (everything you've come to expect, 2016). the line, one of my absolute favourite things turner and kane have ever written, goes "dirtbag ballet by the bins down the alley // as i walk through the chalet of the shadow of death". 'dirtbag ballet' again refers to sex here, this time the illicit kind, the kind that takes place in shadowy corners and dingy alleys. 'ballet' is another term that we will immediately associate with elegance and graceful moves but the use of 'dirt bag' by it's side brings a sense of crassness, almost vulgar quality to it. that term immediately paints a very stark picture of wild clandestine passion that illicit affairs carries probably. the song talks about that a lot.

(PS: an applause for the impeccable internal rhyme in those lines tho. *chef's kiss*)

the last example that stands out to me is from four stars out of five (tranquility base hotel and casino, 2018) where the line goes "hokey cokey with the opposite sex." (someone mentioned it around here today and that's what sparked this post. EDIT: it's @homoirrealis https://www.tumblr.com/lalaballa1977/717488374837084160?source=share) now there's no clever oxymoron-metaphor situation here, but the choice of that specific dance to talk about sex (straight sex, as the songwriter so kindly points out) is very interesting to me. hokey cokey as we know is a campfire dance that originated with brit folk dances and tunes. it's so funny because whenever i hear that line it immediately takes me back to kindergarten and a bunch of us kids standing in a circle, singing the rhyme and learning the dance. therefore in my mind atleast, hokey cokey evokes images of practiced, monotonous movements of hand and feet, no fluidity, no elegance. also the communal aspect of it. what if we read it as something you are made to participate in because you are a part in a group, because a number of pairs of eyes are on you. a question worth pondering perhaps.

and all this referring to sex?

also the song goes on to entice you to escape to this swanky hotel-casino-taqueria up on the moon and get far, far away from shit that you have done and regret and want to forget. then why is this hokey cokey with the opposite sex also one of those things the narrator might want to forget?

ok here's a little more about that book Your Money or Your Life. Also do not listen to me for advice I'm a mid-identity crisis, in-process divorcee & not sure why I'm writing all this other than I guess I feel like it?

I found it when i was feelin real rat-race-y & had just discovered the idea of the f.i.r.e. movement (I don't do it but i think it's Neat). I'm real attracted to pretty systems with a 'what if you enjoyed your life tho' pov. Like, at the end of the day, if the quality of *good feeling* u get from puttering in your garden, walking in the woods, etc is the same as the *good feeling* u get from [money-costing thing] - you could just... work way less and get more *good feeling* from whatever the free activity is. That feels tidy, to me.

It both is and isn't a money management book. It has two authors listed but really was just written by Vicki Robin. It's got a 'process' which is mostly about getting crisp on what you've been doing with your money to date (real cold water shit), and then a math formula to see how much $$ each hour of your life is. I think the point was to give an objective way to compare things and make decisions.

Less 'the right way to do it is XYZ' and more 'idk man what do you even want to do??'

I haven't read it in a few years so I don't know how it holds up but here's the 'process' (and obviously there's way more explanation & nuance in the full book)

idk, this has definitely been brought up before, but like... it feels so possible?? (even tho I'm almost 100% certain it isn't) And i wanna talk abt it soo

Right off the bat, when you compare Watchdog to other species names from woy, it looks off. You have Zbornaks, Bingleblorps, Mooplexians, etc etc -- Watchdog doesn't rly fit with that, right? It's just an english word

And its not just any english word - its a word that details the 2 biggest qualities of the watchdogs as an army: their eyes and their loyalty/obedience. (At least that's what I'm assuming. I don't think its ever mentioned if their eyesight is rly good, but yeah.)

From my 2 min of research, i got that typically Watchdog is a term used for trained guard dogs (idk if that's common knowledge. maybe it is and I'm just sounding dumb here). So I can very easily imagine Peepers coming up with this name to elevate the species' credit as an evil army.

Like - they're not super smart, nor physically strong, buuuut they are easy to manage, you can order them around, they have good eyesight (which means good for guarding/reconnaissance), and are pretty loyal. So, Watchdogs.

(I imagine Peepers saying this^ last paragraph to Hater like a sales pitch.)

On a less positive side, the name also feels like it could be a little offensive. Like... you're calling them dogs. Dangerous dogs, but dogs nonetheless. Like they're pets, inferior to people in a way.

Whenever i get to this point, I always remember how genuinely mad Peepers sounds when Hater calls his "eyeball guys" dogs in The Axe. Peepers be like "f u, my people may be incompetent as shit, but they aren't pets."

on days where maki would be humbled when she would always pride in herself as 'cool and collected,' it would always be when someone was taking up too much of your time; be it panda, toge, yuji or even gojo, she'd always find herself in a mood and having a frown on her face for days on end. whenever that happens, you'd always have to guess what's wrong, and you almost never get it right, so you're left in a mood as well when maki wouldn't tell you what's wrong with the same exact saying, 'figure it out.'

when she was moody, it affected everyone else, too. she'd always take her anger out on training, being too rough with whoever her training partner is (if it's whoever's been hogging up your time, she'd go twice as hard, leaving them sore afterwards) and not think about how humbled she just got. it would affect how everyone focuses in classes which all of you don't really need as jujutsu sorcerers. for example, when maki was pissed off at megumi one day for being your training partner instead of her, she ripped off tiny pieces of paper, took a straw that she used from lunch earlier that day, and kept shooting paper wads through it, aiming it straight at megumi. it was also one of those uncommon times where she was a bit childish (even when she tells everyone she's not).

and today was one of those days when maki walked out onto the training field and saw that you were training with toge. it made her blood boil, because why would you choose to train with someone else over her, your own girlfriend? what's even worse is that you're not even noticing how mad she is, this is usually the time when you're supposed to be comforting her, making her feel like your golden girl. your only golden girl.

"panda," maki turned to face the cursed corpse next to her, resting her pole arm over he shoulder. he glanced at the clearly fuming maki as he gulped in fear, not ready to face her wrath. "yeah?"

"c'mon, you're gonna be my training partner." she demanded, not waiting for any complaints or objections from panda as she was already stomping onto the field. panda sighed as he mentally prepared himself for the beating he's about to receive.

on your side of the field, you were actually having a bit of fun. nobara, your underclassman, decided to watch as you and toge were training, even added commentary when one of you fell or missed a swing. it was a bit irritating, but fun nonetheless.

"it's hot outside, why's maki-san wearing long sleeves?" nobara asked, crossing her legs and resting her elbow on her knee just to rest her chin in her palm, looking over at maki and panda. you looked away from toge who was laying on the ground and looked at maki who was sweating like a pig, though you couldn't see from that distance. she was clearly getting a bit overheated, from all the moving around, the boiling temperatures, and that dark purple long sleeve shirt that she wore on purpose.

you sighed, shaking your head briefly as you set your training weapon down. you plopped down on the ground a second later, sighing as you were finally sitting in the shade provided by the big tree. nobara tapped her chin with her finger, watching maki move quickly and wacking panda everywhere with her pole arm.

"it's like, 85 degrees out. how is she not dying?" nobara pressed as she lifted her brow. you pursed your lips, looking back at maki with a deadpan stare, "she has a habit of doing that. i don't think she realizes how hot it is, she must think she's immune to it or something." you admit as you're watching her move slower and slower. you're wrong; she does realize it, and she knows very well that she's burning up, but nobody else knows that it's her own way of getting you to worry about her, eventually taking care of her in the end and reminding her (yourself more than her) that she's your golden girl.

"maki, you're completely drenched," panda commented as he swayed to the side, avoiding maki's embarrassingly slow punch. if there's a first time for everything, there's a first time for maki giving a weak punch, and that was today. panda frowned, watching maki strain herself with red cheeks and a sweaty body. he figures that it's the shirt, not to mention those black leggings she's wearing. it's like she was asking for a heat stroke, and she might as well, considering you haven't come over to take care of her yet.

"maki, stop. you need to take a break, you look like you're on your last days and you're still throwing punches," panda grabbed maki by her wrist, holding her still, getting a good look at her beet red face and the sweat that stuck her bangs to her forehead. her mouth was dry, her throat was burning, and her arms were tired, she might as well plop down to the ground and bake in the sun.

panda sighed, watching her drop to the ground. he looked around for you and toge, then waved at you, him and nobara for all of you to come over. when you and toge looked at each other with the same expression, the three of you got up from your spots to rush over to where maki had fallen.

"is she ok?" you ask once you reach her, leaning down to grab her by the arm and try your best to lift her up. it took her every ounce of will power to hold back a shit-eating grin on maki's face as you were lifting her up, throwing her big arm over your shoulder. panda sighs as he scratches the back of his head, "yeah, i think she's just a little hot from all that training."

"probably," you reply as you turn to face her red face; the flush even reached her neck, from what you could see (which wasn't much). thank god for deodorant, if she didn't have that on she would've stunk twice as bad.

"whatever, i'll take her to shoko," you say as you turn around, your other hand holding her wrist as you make your way to the building, maki limping the whole way there.

shoko was in the middle of playing tetris when the two of you came in; she looked up from her computer to find you and maki walking through the door. she looked so surprised, seeing maki's the one being taken in and not the other way around, considering the line of aching students she sends to her.

she clicks her tongue, getting up from her desk as you set maki down on the counter where everyone usually sits (minus panda) despite shoko telling everyone not to sit there. she spent a few months telling everyone to not sit on the counters, but eventually gave up after even gojo was sitting on the counters.

"what happened to her," shoko asks cheekily as she grabs a thermometer from one of the cups sitting further down the counter. you sigh, watching maki open her mouth and let shoko stick the instrument underneath her tongue, then roll your eyes. "she wore that damn shirt in this hot ass weather, that's what happened."

"in 85 degree heat?" shoko frowns a bit. "that's a bit odd, you'd think she'd at least bring water with her--" shoko pauses to glance at maki as the thermometer rests in her mouth. "you did bring water, did you?"

maki hums in response, as she can't say anything or nod her head, then shoko sighs before the thermometer goes off. she immediately took it out of her mouth and checked the numbers, then clicked her tongue.

"maki, i suggest you lay off on training and classes tomorrow or the next few days," she shows the temperature to you both. "you've got a fever of 103.5."

"how did i get a fever from that?" you and maki both hopped off the counter at the same time. you rolled your eyes as you grabbed maki by the arm. "next time don't wear dark colors and long sleeve shirts in 85 degree heat." you tease as you drag her out of shoko's office, not even letting her get the chance to tell maki to get a cold shower tonight (though she probably already knows).

"did you do laundry or something? cuz i know you had other alternatives," you question as you open maki's door (she left it unlocked just for you to walk in whenever you wanted to, regardless of what she might be doing), dragging her in and shutting the door. maki knew you'd ask that question if the situation did lead to you bringing her back to her own room to treat her there, so earlier this morning she took out all her shirts in her wardrobe and put them in her dirty laundry basket and took it down to the laundry room and shoved everything in there.

"i did, i just forgot to take it out this morning," she lies as she watches you open up her wardrobe. when you think she's telling the truth, seeing that nothing's in there, you shut the doors and turn to face her.

"well, i guess you should go take a cold shower," you cringe as you slowly begin to make your way out of her room, her eyes following your creeping figure the whole time. when you reach the door and set your hand on the door knob, she springs up from her bed and catches your shoulders, pinning you on the floor.

there's a grin on her face when she watches you wriggle underneath her, trying to escape her impossibly superhuman grip. she inches closer, your faces barely an inch away from each other as she watches the worried look on your face. she hums, leaning down to press a kiss against your cheek, "i did that on purpose, sweetheart."

when the nickname leaves her soft lips, there's a shock that rings quickly throughout your body. you didn't know what it was, nor what sparked it, but it felt weird, and the nickname itself made you feel weird. and she knows, she knows that the shock rung even in your bones, she knows part of you tingled a bit when she called you 'sweetheart,' she knows it all, because she knows everything about you, even more than you know about yourself.

"i did that so you could come to my aid, to help out your precious little angel," all the times you called her an angel seemed fake as her tone sounded sinful, her voice leaving your cheek and trailing down to your neck. "and here we are, just how i planned it."

"m-maki," your hand comes up to run your fingers through her emerald green hair, sighing blissfully as her lips ghosted the skin of your pretty neck. she grins upon hearing your soft moans and sighs of bliss, then runs a streak on your neck with her tongue, almost making you jump.
