#if I can get the company I work for to stop giving me insurance that counts as a qualifying event

Hey y’all! I hadn’t mentioned it by name because I wasn’t sure if it was regional or not, but I found out it’s not regional so: Aetna is the worst insurance company. It sucks! Avoid it if you can. All my insurance issues have been because of Aetna. Aetna refuses to pay for my maintenance inhaler or my rescue inhaler, and refused to pay for a holter monitor for me when I’ve had tachycardia issues for a full decade. A heart monitor my doctor ordered to check if I had major electrical issues because if I did I’d need a pacemaker to prevent severe cardiac complications (I don’t have those issues, for the record).

I'm not here to grind a political or social axe. I'm just here to tell a short story, about a normal person trying to navigate the American medical establishment. Here is some evidence. You may draw your own conclusions.
So I've had a migraine for a month.
That's not hyperbole, mind. It has been a month since this started. A month of the entire side of my head pulsing with pain, worse whenever I look at light which is always because I do digital art and all that.
Now, I've had migraines all my damn life. I know the drill. I have a preventative medicine that keeps me from having more than one a month or so, and I have a "rescue" medicine meant to stop the ones that do start. I have a nice dark room to rest in when it starts, I have blindfolds, I have ice packs -- I know how to handle these, is the point. So, for about the first two weeks, I did just that. I hit this sucker with everything that worked before and did my best to wait it out. Yes, I delayed getting care, because it was a problem I was already familiar with and assumed was normal for me.
Then, a week ago, it stopped responding to my rescue medication. Entirely stopped. Alarmed, I went to the ER. They hit me with a fairly standard migraine cocktail (so they said anyway -- don't ask me what it was because I honestly do not remember). Killed the pain almost right away and they give me some advice about what to do next and sent me home.
It was back in sixteen hours.
ER again. Same cocktail, same result. I'm freaked out now, so I call my PCP and schedule an appointment. She fits me into her schedule because she's alarmed too. She gives me a shot of Toradol and that helps, but she notices my blood pressure is reading a little elevated for me and we decide to try a blood pressure medication. Okay, cool, I'm down, high blood pressure runs in the family and it can definitely give you migraines if untreated. We start this medicine and she prescribes me a new rescue medication, giving me one pill to try while waiting for insurance to okay the prescription. This rescue medicine works, putting me back in control of the pain. Cool, thinks I, I just have to get through a couple weeks while the blood pressure medicine settles in, and if we're right, the migraine will finally let go.
Today, I discover that insurance would only okay ten pills of this medicine, because I have had the other rescue medication refilled recently for... obvious reasons. Ten pills, and if I want more, I have to wait like forty days or something.
Do you know how many of these pills I have to take a day to keep the migraine at bay? Two.
I have five days of relief -- four, now -- before I go right back to the same ER level pain, unless I am exceedingly lucky with this blood pressure medicine.
The ER did no imaging. I'm not sure if they even could. My PCP put in an order for an MRI when I saw her, which was a week ago, and that request has not yet left the insurance company.
A migraine is not just a headache, like you get after overindulging or staying up too late. A migraine alters your mental state. It can come with physical symptoms beyond head pain -- mine likes to manifest itself with dark spots in my vision, for example, which can ruin a day real fast -- and sometimes they even come with nasty mental symptoms.
So... what part of all that upsets you the most? Because, for me, it's knowing I have about four days before I go right back to screaming misery.
Oh, and I have to note, I am considered fairly lucky because the state covers my ass when Medicare won't. Yet here we are all the same.

I do have a few more examples! Tim offers Mister Freeze unlimited funding to help his wife on the condition that he sometimes helps with other projects. He hires Harvey Dent to be his personal lawyer (not that he needs one). Blood Sport, Death Stroke, Dead Shot, and many other mercenaries are hired to "break into" Drake Industries to hunt down and "kill" Tim or "steal" important information in order to test his companies defenses and tell him exactly how they got in so that he can patch any holes. He hires one to break in every 2 to 3 months but never the same person in a year. Like if he uses Deathstroke in August he can't use him again until January.
Tim also doesn't want to force these rouges to move far away from their homes so he opens up branches in Metropolis, Central City, Star City, and others too. Anywhere he opens an office for Drake Industries, crime rate always plummets thanks to him hiring all the Henchmen and giving them stable jobs that pay at minimum double the minimum wage of the area plus really good health insurance and other benefits. They even have dental and 4 months paid maternity *and* paternity leave! The desk work may not be as exciting as their previous jobs but boy is it safer.
Also I would like to make one note. DI is one of the few major cooperations in America that openly does *not* donate to the Jusitce Leauge. Tim is still salty about Bruce Quest and during an interview where someone asked how much he donates to them, Tim said, "oh I don't. At all. It's not that I don't believe in them, I do, uts just. There's already so many places funding them they don't need me. But you know who does? The younger generation of heroes. Did you know that The Teen Titans only get funding through the Justice Leauge? I don't think that's very fair so I donate to them. I donate to Young Justice. I track down and do research on dozens of younger heroes who aren't part of any organization and check to make sure they're doing good in their community and then I directly donate to them. Superheroing is expensive, just look how much the JL spends on it! Could you imagine? Being fresh out of high-school, working a minimum wage job, and having to make your own suit and gadgets while also paying for *college*? The stories I have heard from some of them! This one poor kid, he told me that he had to use this roll of regular fabric he found in a dumpster because buying a roll was to expensive! Of course I sent him to a super hero tailor on my own dime, after all he just wanted to help his community saving kittens from trees and stopping local mugging. But still, small heroes like him are important. After all, didn't Superman start by saving cats from trees? Didn't Green Arrow start by stopping a mugging? Didn't Batman himself start by stopping a purse snatching? You never know who the next big hero will be in 5 or ten years."
I might have gotten a bit to into that rant. Listen. Listen this is a subject close to my heart. Small Time Heroes Are Important!
My gods, I love this so so much. You combined two tropes I love: Tim using Business to fund social programs/decrease crime/hire ex felons and criminals, and Tim turning his back on the JL after the BruceQuest.
Added with Tim funding small time heroes???? This is phenomenal

John’s line of work has taught him that people are so, so easy to play with. Know the right person, the right place. Know what to say, who to say it to.
Keeping you safe, under his ever-observant eye, is easy in the barracks and on the field. You don’t make a single move he doesn’t see or hasn’t approved. But when you go home, away from him and his control, he just can’t help but worry. Are you safe, alone in that big, empty house? What do you get up to? Are you eating and drinking? Taking care of yourself? Who do you see? Do you invite anyone around? The idea of another man in your home makes him shudder, and in your bedroom isn’t something he even entertains. John needs to do something about it.
He’s been thinking for a while. Some way to watch you, every waking moment. A permanent eye on the wall. He knows your address; it’s right there in your files. There isn’t a single legal document or piece of information about you that he can’t obtain if he wants to. Every place you’ve lived, your parents, extended family, even your friendship circles. Your school results, community hobbies, bank purchases, every doctors trip – especially your birth control and fertility, he paid very close attention to those details. He knows how to play you; he listens to your grumbling, observes what makes you happy. Notices the moments where you’re less resistant, records what makes you flare up in defensiveness or fury. John is a well-educated man, one who could’ve been a scholar in another life, and he’s decided his favourite topic to study is you.
--- ︻デ═一 ---
“Remember to fill out your forms, lads. New policies coverin’ house insurance and maintenance, let me know if y’need any fixin’ at home.” He hands out the papers, carefully keeping yours separate without being too obvious. Soap’s head bobs up, glancing at you and taking the bait John has set out perfectly. “Oi bonnie, weren’t ye chattin’ ‘bout fixin’ a light o’ somethin’?”
Your face lights up at the mention, a bashful smile gracing your lips, and John would be mad that it’s not in his direction if he wasn’t so satisfied with himself. “I can’t believe you remembered that, yeah! I was going to wait until I got home.”
Gaz hums, hunched over his own form as he signs it. “Maybe Ghost can buy a piece of furniture this year.” His sentence is rewarded with a pen smacking into the side of his head, bouncing off him and onto the table as Ghost snorts in amusement, answering gruffly. “Fuck off, Garrick.”
It never goes wrong, but he still feels smug at how effortless it is to orchestrate an entire conversation before it starts. Getting your signature is as easy as an extra sheet, you can’t even tell the difference. No one reads terms and conditions, and he’s made extra sure you don’t - a couple of edited test forms a few months ago - to rule out the chance.
With the paperwork completed, he contacts the company and gives them a boring, digestible cover story. “Yeah, her husband. Installing cameras, yeah. Keepin’ it safe while we’re both on deployment. Just a light out the back to fix, cameras to install in and outside.”
They’re so quick to listen to the man playing the big, strong head of the house, not a single question about why everything but the payment would be in his ‘wife’s’ name instead. Lying, John finds, is easiest when others do the work for you; give vague details that seem right, and let them come to their own little conclusions. Let them assume you’re some kind of military wife who doddles along behind him, just an obedient little civilian pet while he organises the household. If only they knew what you were and what you did, he thinks. Though still, an obedient little pet is how he would like you. It just takes time to get there.
They come over and install the cameras in less than a week. John’s antsy the day he gets the call that they finished, waiting for it to be over so he can experiment with his new toy. He ignores the questioning looks from his inferiors as he dismisses his last evening meeting early, pushing out the door into the stream of soldiers heading for dinner, only departing from the pack when he reaches his office door.
John prepared a room for this in advance – the moment he set the plan in motion. A room at home, his central control that he could run unmanned and long-distance, circumnavigating his occupancy at the base. It’s almost undetectable; no pesky windows to peek in from the outside, entry hidden behind a locked door in his office. The numerous screens flicker to life, illuminating the room in a blue glow. The cameras are perfect; detailed quality, blur-less zoom. Every angle. It quickly becomes his favourite room to be in, despite only being in it once when he headed home to initially set everything up.
At the base, all he needs is an electronic device and an app to access the command. His favourite to use is his phone, flicking through each screen to take in the rooms, committing each detail and decoration to heart. Though to keep up all professional appearances, he often settles for his laptop, flicking between reports and gazing at the screens with every spare second. John takes the weeks leading up to break to memorise your house, seeing each room flickering on the back of his eyelids as lies in bed, tracing each path you’d take morning and night until he falls asleep.
He protects it. Types your address into his maps app, virtually scouting the neighbourhood to make sense of all your outside cameras, memorising every surrounding street. Plans escape routes, recording positions of defence and any weak spots he could reinforce, windows or vents that are just too easy to wrench open by perverse men like him. Within a month, he knows your house plan like his own; enough to contemplate how he would reorganise it if you wanted him to move in, how many little ones it could hold, tiny feet pattering up and down its hallways.
--- ︻デ═一 ---
When the last week before leave finally comes around, he’s beyond ecstatic. John is a carefully controlled slate around anyone else, but his boys know each twitch of his eyebrow and quirk of his lip. They clue you in to his unusually excited behaviour with teasing jokes and remarks that have him rolling his eyes, gruffly ordering them back to work. Soap is betting on a secret missus, making a point to sneak up behind Price when Soap catches him texting away on his phone.
When he finally arrives home, he’s delighted to see your house is still empty. It gives him time to unpack, running loads of laundry and showering. He keeps an eye on his phone, monitoring the screens until he finishes, bringing a cup of coffee and dinner to his little surveillance room.
The screens fill the wall, a 3x3 set-up that basks the room in a pale glow, yet still isn’t enough to display every camera hidden around your house. Everything is silent, the occasional rumble of a car getting his hopes up, but nothing happens until a few sips of his coffee and an article later. Movement from one of the screen catches his attention, his head straightening to watch your front door swing open.
A bag is the first thing that comes through the door, flung down the hallway with a dull thud. Your figure follows it in, heaving another heavy bag behind you. John frowns at the sight, mindlessly tutting as he crosses his arms. He could be there to do that for you. None of this silly straining yourself.
Leaning back and settling in, he watches how you unravel from your long absence. It pleases him that you’re practical in your return, taking the time to wash your laundry, circulate and dispel all the stagnant air (although Price dislikes seeing your windows open, so unattended), and give the place a general tidy up. There’s a ping from your phone a few times that puts John on edge. Who’s texting you already, when you’ve been back for less than a day? His prominent guess is family and close friends, excited to have their beloved child home and safe, but he can’t help from worrying that he’s wrong. Maybe you’re so pent up that you just can’t help it, using those silly dating apps you talk about with Gaz, eager for someone to unravel all that need within you. Maybe it’s an old friends-with-benefits situation you already have that’s eager to climb back in your bed. Maybe – maybe he should bug your devices.
His deliberations are disrupted as you reward your productivity with what Price thinks to be a party in your bathroom. The small haven of what should be privacy isn’t free from his omniscient gaze, either. He doesn’t care if it’s disgusting; there are no boundaries to him. There isn’t a single side of you he doesn’t want to see, doesn’t want to know.
The music comes through his speakers, some songs he recognises from the long travels spent in transport together. Melodies echo through your room as steam slowly gathers, whisps streaming in and out of his lens view as water slowly fills the bath. You trail from the room, meandering down the hall and grabbing some snacks from the kitchen, filling a glass with a carbonated drink you grab from the fridge. Snug in the corner above the entryway, paired neatly with the fire alarm, his camera catches the way you bend yourself over the counter, distracted by scrolling through some app.
He feels himself throb at the sight, fumbling to take a screenshot of the image. You tease him, staying bent like that as you wait for the bath, your ass swaying occasionally when a trendy song hums from your phone. Disappointment washes through him when you stand up, though he basks in the sight of your stomach peaking from under your shirt as you stretch, but his excitement is quickly renewed when you gather your snacks and head back to the bathroom.
The room has filled with a thick fog that blooms out into the hallway as you open the door. It clouds his vision, leaving him cursing for not considering the possibility. Your darkened figure is hardly visible as you move throughout the room, but from the soft, metallic clicks and flickering of light, he assumes you’re lighting something. Two lights blossom in front of you, remaining behind you as you crouch at the bath and start flicking the lighter again. The cloud has dispersed enough to let John see the fuzzy details of your face, watching as you bring a third candle to your face, inhaling with a hum of delight before you light the flame and return it to the bath’s edge. You strew the candles about the room, leaving a large one to glow on your vanity and putting the other one on your closed toilet lid.
You fiddle with the taps – running cold water, he guesses – and sit on the floor, sorting your snacks onto a long tray as the last of the mist spills from the room. He’s been lucky this time; had you not been treating yourself, taking the time to create a small sanctuary, the fog would’ve concealed any chance of John seeing you at such a vulnerable time. A flaw within his system that requires refinement. Perhaps a flaw he can turn into an excuse to visit you.
His thoughts fall flat when you stand up, slotting the tray into its position over the bath and silencing the taps with a few sharp turns. Finally. The point he’s been anticipating.
The captain waits with bated breath, eager to salivate over his uninvited striptease. It’s far from the first time he’s seen you undress, though it’s the first time you’ve been so beautifully unaware. Close proximity (and the resulting lack of privacy) is just another test of comradery – he’s showered next to you in just underwear and ripped your shirt or pants off to treat a stab wound more times than he can count.
But this time you undress, you don’t stop at your underwear.
There’s no to palaver or parade to your performance – there’s no real performance, just a one-sided show, and that alone has John’s cock aching. Capturing you without filter, pretences or social expectations, no song and dance of captain and soldier. You’re clumsy pulling off your underwear, catching the elastic on your toes and throwing it haphazardly onto the floor with the rest of your clothes through curses and grumbles. Inspecting yourself in the mirror, catching up on each new scar and burn, bending over and peering around to see the state of your backside and between your thighs. This is a side of you he can never glimpse on base, despite all his attempts.
The buzz of your phone distracts you, straightening up with a right, okay! and grabbing the small device, unlocking it to peer at the content as you gingerly slide a foot into the hot, soapy water. Bit by bit, you emerge yourself within the sudsy liquid, minding the tray as you let out an audible groan. John watches you melt into the bubbles, arms resting along the tub as your head falls back.
For a while, the two of you remain like that; John sat comfortably in his chair, ignoring the heat flickering in his lower stomach as he works through some papers, keeping an eye on your relaxed form as you decompress within the hot, sudsy water, picking at the tray of food and drink. His attention slips as the minutes go by, becoming more focused on his work – pushing the aching need between his legs further to the side - as he checks the screen every ten minutes.
The swishing of water becomes a tranquil ambience as you scrub at yourself, low voices from your phone that John doesn’t currently care to make out keeping you entertained through the process. You luxuriate in the tub for much longer than the barrack would ever allow, taking your time to scrub the build-up of product and dead skin that you give little concern during deployment.
A paper absorbs his attention, keeping his eyes occupied as he grumbles through writing. His concentration is only torn away as he finishes scribbling his signature, a sharp, unexpected moan filling his ears that has him looking up so fast his neck cricks. Scanning the screen, he quickly determines that it’s not coming from you – rather, your phone, and is now accompanied by a deep, masculine groan.
Your expression is clear on his screen, a flush to your cheeks as you gaze at your device, hand running along your chest teasingly to tug at a nipple. Whether it’s from the pornographic material playing on your phone or the heat of the water, John can’t tell.
The tent of his pants is already insufferably tight, and he swears there’ll be a zipper print against the red of his aching cock when he pulls it out. He wants to relish this, commit each moment of this first time to memory without the taint of his lust, but he can’t help the growing need between his legs. Ignoring it to finish paperwork, merely bask in the company of your unwinding routine, has been a challenge even for his steeled resolve.
As he watches your hand trail down the soft pudge of your torso, dipping into the bubbly water to follow the rise and dip of your stomach, he breaks. His cock springs out of his briefs like it’s gasping for air, bouncing angrily against his stomach with each haphazard tug at the elastic around his hips. He can only imagine how your fingers work between your legs at that sensitive skin, how you orchestrate your undoing.
The tray holds your phone conveniently, allowing both hands to roam your body, and John thanks his luck for at least the opportunity to watch you pinch and roll your nipples between your fingers. You tug at the sensitive buds with whimpered moans, water sloshing as your hips buck against your hand, teasing John with actions that he can’t see.
He’s damp to the touch as he grips his shaft, fingers immediately sticky with precum that’s been smeared throughout his briefs. Pearlescent beads drool from his tip in a lazy stream, lubricating his motions as he tugs lightly at his foreskin, already teetering the edge of climax. The slightest stimulation has his stomach tightening, listening to your gasps and whines grow in urgency.
You chase your orgasm eagerly, working with a pent up need that comes from the absence of full privacy within the miliary. Convulsions rack through you in synchronisation, moans combining in a harmony he wishes wasn’t separated by the screen. He wants to time it perfectly; fuck up into his fist and release as you reach your own peak, as if a flawless synchronisation is key to unlocking some phantom sensation of being buried between your thighs, clenched down around him.
It doesn’t take much more teasing before you catch up, your tiles wet as water breaches the rim with each careless thrust. The video in front of you has ended, long forgotten as your head lulls back, lost in the sensations that envelope your consciousness that prove to be too much. They push you over the edge with a ragged cry, your knees peaking from the water as your thighs clench around your hand, and John loses himself too.
All it takes it a few weak thrusts into his hand before his balls are tightening, seed spilling in enthusiastic spurts, striping his shirt and pants before it dies down to a dribble that John coaxes out with a groan. He sits there, watching your breathing even out as you wipe away at your mess, spent and catching his breath as the cum dries on his clothes. You’re quick in cleaning up the mess, pulling yourself up on unsteady limbs as you pull the plug, bending down to rinse your hands one last time for John to relish.
He's almost heartbroken when you step out the tub, droplets cascading down to drip from your form, only to reach for a towel to wrap around yourself. The fabric is a slim cover, leaving glimpses of your behind and chest as you dry yourself, humming a tune with a note of content John wishes he brought instead. John tucks himself back into the soiled briefs, shucking off his shirt and pants to wash momentarily, but not before he glimpses you one last time getting changed.
Before you can reach for the underwear placed in advance on the sink and discard your towel, the camera barely picks up the vibration of your phone, catching both his and your attention. Leaning over to the tray, your process is halted by a text on your screen that makes you smile, and whether it’s the drunken, post-orgasmic haze that clouds his mind, or the way it makes him more vulnerable to the surge of jealousy that flares up at your giggle, John finds himself fumbling through the lockscreen and pulling up your contact before he can stop himself.
If you’re not going to think about him during your masturbation, he’s sure as hell going to make sure you think of him after.

“Where am I going?”
“Eddie—”
“Give me the goddamn room number or— or doctor’s name or— fuckin’—”
“Just slow down, take a breath, okay?” Nancy Wheeler is a level presence, which is ironic Eddie thinks, considering he’s watched her commit multiple felonies even outside of an active apocalyptic situation.
She’s holding his hand, but he can’t feel it past the aching numbness of uncertainty running through his veins. She’s talking to him as she leads him through the lobby and towards a bank of industrial silver elevators, but he can’t hear her over the chaos of the past hour.
He was on the air when he got the page, a mug of coffee in hand since he isn’t used to DJing the early morning shows quite yet and a quite frankly sick lineup of songs ready to help his listeners start the day.
He was on air, still, when his vocal cords seized up, when he left dead air hanging for a full three seconds before his co-host was able to jump in and take over for him.
He was on air, when his pager buzzed on the desk and he was on air, too, when the little window screamed—
911-STEVE
—and then he wasn’t on air anymore.
Eddie didn’t grab his coat, which he doesn’t even realize until this moment, striding down the endless halls of Community North on Nancy’s heels.
He didn’t do much of anything, he doesn’t think, can’t even recall whether or not he explained where he was going, why he was leaving work in the middle of the show, why his hands were trembling and his voice cracking and his breath stuttering.
A 911 page and a call at a payphone just long enough to find out which hospital, Nance I can be there— I’ll be there, and Eddie blacked out, went into full autopilot, almost slipped on black ice in the parking lot twice and cursed the insurance company for not letting him get a new prosthesis for another two months at least four times after that and drove.
He doesn’t remember driving. He doesn’t remember parking.
He’s going to wonder, later, whether or not he locked his truck or even shut the goddamn door before he came barreling in through the ER entrance, but right now all he cares about is this—
“Nance, was it his head? Did he— Or burns, was it burns—?”
Nancy grabs him by both shoulders and drags him to a stop square in front of a door with the blinds drawn over the narrow window. She looks him in the eye.
If Steve were dead, she wouldn’t be looking him in the eye.

If Cosmere Characters Had Real-World Jobs (But Not The Obvious Ones)
In this list, I wanted to try to give Cosmere characters jobs in our world while avoiding the jobs that would be the most obvious picks--like, for example, the real world equivalent of whatever their canon job is.
1. Kaladin: Professional Football Player
It's a dangerous job that Kaladin's dad would scoff at, but the other kids in town think it's really cool and also the recruiters are coming through town and, I mean, he's really good at football.
2. Lirin: Public Defender
If we avoid the obvious job (doctor), then Lirin still needs a job where he is doing good, but it's pretty thankless and the general public are suspicious and think he might actually be evil somehow. So I figure: public defender. He's highly educated, helping people who need it, and just getting nothing but grief as a result. Worst of all, his smart son wants to be a FOOTBALL player!
3. Marsh: Masseuse
I feel like people who are good at hemalurgy know about the body and its pressure points and things like that. And frankly, "acupuncturist" felt too on the nose.
4. Shallan: Park Ranger
Shallan HATES to be confined, so no way she's going into an office job. Plus, she likes nature and animals, but I'm trying to avoid the more obvious jobs (like botanist or ecologist). It's just too bad that Shallan is SO bad at staring a campfire, though.
5. Navani: Wedding Planner
Navani is VERY good at managing people and events, as seen when she had to manage everything while Gavilar was off plotting. She's also very organized and literally invented wristwatches. So I think she's be very good at this job.
6. Elend: Grad Student
This one may be too obvious, but I figure something like "politician" or "philosopher" are more obvious. But to me, Elend has major grad student energy.
7. Nale: Insurance Adjuster
Nale is a cop, of course, through and through. But if he wasn't a cop, then he'd need some other job where he uses the rules to screw people over. So I see him as, like, an evil insurance guy who's denying people medical coverage because the company wants him to.
8. Blackthorn-Era Dalinar: Debt Collector
If flashback Dalinar couldn't make a living mowing people down in battle and had to find a less obvious job, then I could see him being the guy to hunt down people and demand money they don't have. He doesn't really care about the money. He just likes the hunt.
9. Adolin: eSports Player
It's a job where you can head-to-head battle people and your dad is vaguely puzzled and thinks you should be doing something more important with your life.
10. Lightsong: Customer Service Agent
In canon, Lightsong's job is to face down a huge line of people and tell them "no" in response to them asking for something they want. So, I mean, I feel like that's equivalent to one of those shitty customer service jobs where you're not really allowed to help people (until, of course, Lightsong goes rogue and does start helping people, but that's another story...)
11. Stormfather: Bus Driver
He has his route, and he's not deviating from it. And if you miss the bus, he's not stopping. He's not going back. You can try to run, but you will not catch up to him.
12. Tress: Mechanic
As a Sprouter, Tress had to figure out how each of the spores worked and how to use them. I just feel like she'd be good at diagnosing issues in machinery and then fixing them.
13. Steris: Programmer
She's precise, she's smart, she likes rules. I think coding would suit her.
14. Yumi: Waitress
She could stack the plates SO high.
15. Marasi: Investigative Reporter
Which, honestly, is what I wish she had been rather than being a cop like in canon. I think it would suit her! She'd get to research, investigate, find the truth...

WIBTA if I quit my job working for my dad and got a different job?
I (25fx) work for my dad (late 50s) at the machine shop he manages. My siblings (30m, 28f) also work there. I have pretty severe ADHD, coupled with autism and a healthy dose of anxiety, and it impacts my ability to work regular hours, mostly because of delayed sleep phase issues (basically my circadian rhythm is pushed several hours so my sleep time is usually like 12 or 1am to 9 or 10am) that I have tried literally everything under the sun to fix. That coupled with an inability to focus on the work that I'm being given (mostly office work. If I was in production I would be fine but Dad doesn't want any of us kids working in the shop cuz he wants to train us to take over for him even though none of us want to) means I'm averaging about 15 hours a week. Fine, okay, not a huge deal. I live at home with him and my stepmom and don't have to pay for rent or food, a fact that I'm endlessly thankful for and don't take for granted at all.
The issue is that I have about $1000 a month in student loan debt. I tried college three separate times, and in the end even after doing part-time classes, it was unsustainable and I wasn't able to complete my degree. My dad is only paying me $10/hr, which isn't nearly enough to cover my student loans, let alone leave me with any money for things like hobbies or going out with friends. I've talked with my dad several times about giving me a raise, even just to $12/hr, and every time he says that I need to put in more hours to prove that I'm worth it. Every single time I have tried to put in more hours, I end up extremely burnt out by the end of the week and end up needing to go back to my usual schedule.
To exacerbate the situation even more, I turn 26 in less than a month and lose my insurance. I have several prescriptions that cost about $100 a month with insurance right now, and I can't stop taking any of them. Even if I was eligible to join the company insurance, it would take so much out of my paychecks that I would be making almost no money each week. I am likely eligible for Medicaid and have been going through the channels to get that set up, but it's still an extremely stressful situation that's been taking up a lot of mental energy, further impacting my ability to work.
Would I be the asshole if I found a better job and quit? I know that pretty much the only reason why I can stay at home is because I work for my dad. The car I drive is a company car so I would likely lose access to it. I just can't work the hours he needs me to work, but I need more than $10/hr to survive.
What are these acronyms?

Heeeeeyyyyy it’s ur boy uh. Skinny penice.
If any of you lovelies wanna help me get my mom’s account out of the negatives, I would be eternally grateful.
Her account is around -$300 after the bills got taken out, we’re just trying not to rack up any late fees at this point ✨ any money will go to getting her account out of the negatives or else paying off the fees as they add up. She’s already been in the negatives for 2 or 3 days because she tried to “fix it herself” without telling me (I only found out because I happened to see her bank app).
Her car’s engine also stopped and we can’t afford a rental so I have to drive her to and from work myself (a 40 minute drive each way, I will be making the 80 minute drive twice today so I can go to my own job). I don’t get paid until Thursday and the only thing I can afford rn is gas.
I just had to pay $500 to get my own car out of the shop after almost 2 months since someone tried to steal it in September (all the parts they needed were on back order) and the dude who tried to take it for a joy ride gets to pay it back in small increments (when a white boy does it for fun, they give him every excuse) which means I’m out $500.
I wanted to attend my community college this upcoming semester but I’m just going to have to skip again if this keeps up, which I really don’t want to do because of pressure from my sister to get a degree or apprenticeship. She won’t help my mom in order to “punish her” but it really just punishes me. My mom has been hiding her finances from me ever since my dad died, resulting in things like my car (the car is under her name & insurance but my dad gave it to me) getting repossessed during the summer (we were able to get it back luckily) and the internet getting shut off. She lied about where the money I paid her was going, paid for her own car + insurance instead and let my car get repossessed. My finances and well-being are entirely dependent on her bank account, and she is consistently dishonest about where our money goes, and then funnels any money I make into her account. She also tries to buy frivolous things we don’t need when she runs out of money + tries to force me to buy those things for her and is only frugal when spending her own paycheck. Everyone I have explained the situation to tells me that I am being financially abused, and I cannot find a way out of it besides moving out, but I can’t afford to do that and I can’t leave my pets behind.
I was also trying to pay off my phone and late bills to T-Mobile so we could switch over to a cheaper company but I can’t make any progress on this because we can’t afford to pay anything off before the next month rolls over and we get charged yet again (when T-Mobile bought Sprint they started charging us out the ass). The electric bill is also going to be unsustainable this winter, our heater doesn’t work half the time so we have space heaters but that’s it for us + our 4 cats + 1 dog.
I’m also supposed to be going to the doctor’s to get a diagnosis (probably EDS), physical and mental therapy, etc. but I have to go through multiple doctors and institutions(?) to do this, which is pretty much impossible when you’re sharing 1 car between 2 people and are the only one with any gas money (which is gonna go FAST). I also do not want my mom to know under any circumstances if I attend mental therapy.
And there’s always more but I don’t have time to continue on
If you follow me or enjoy my posting please consider helping out if you can 💗

Hello Everyone!
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted and I just wanted to give an update, if you’re curious.
If not, just know that I’ll be posting regularly again next week 🩵
Anyways…
So as you may or may not know, I was in a car accident in January that left me with a concussion and injuries. I had to take time off work and have been dealing with non stop headaches since then. Luckily I work for a personal injury lawyer and we’re able to have the other person’s insurance pay for everything. My treatment and new car plus extra for pain and suffering.
I work on computers all day for work and looking at screens for long periods do hurt so that’s why I’ve been not posting so much(although I do have a lot in the drafts). I just wanna make sure I can properly proofread and post accordingly.
So my injuries plus emense amount of stress has made it difficult for me to do many things. I also had a brain injury as a baby so me getting a concussion is worrisome. I can’t stand and move around for too long at a time without needing to sit or lay down… I’m gonna be seeing specialists to make sure it didn’t mess something up 😅
Also. Update with my dog, Mocha.
I took her to the groomers 2 weeks ago and the groomer injured her. Basically the groomer choked her too hard and cut off some circulation?? She was having weird twitches. I complained to the company(who is a big pet store chain) and they didn’t take me seriously until I had my boss(a lawyer) threaten them so they paying for her vet bills now. She’s doing better now.
It’s been a rough 2024 so far. But things are finally getting back on track! I’ve also been picking up drawing again like I used to. As I mentioned, looking at screens hurts a bit so my digital art has been hard to keep up with.
I’ve posted some on my Art Account tho. Check it out. I hope you like it. I’ve always loved art and writing.
Also my birthday is coming on the 26th and I’m trying to come to terms that I’m gonna be 25 and in my mid twenties 😭

Neil being made to believe he can't change his ways by some stupid psychiatrist in 5x04 hurts so much T_T
Fascinatingly, we meet an ex-criminal who DID change his life for the better in the same episode. And on the other hand there's Dr. Mara Summers who sows this terrible doubt in Neals mind about who he is and who he can be. That he can never be anything else but a thief.
It's very untypical for Neal to listen to random strangers, and so that had me startled. However, there's a distinct difference between the woman's and the other ex-criminal's voice of influence on him...: He is just a family man, she is cunning and on his level intellectually.
When Neal meets Dr. Summers, they immediately spar a mindgame.
And I'm not sure what about that made Neal change his mind about getting clean of his criminal history, because he clearly despises himself for being a con man afterwards. He's learned to hate the manipulation which he is able to intuitively force on the people he interacts with. It becomes wildly apparent who Neal is and who he is not in Season 6 with Keller and Amy (no more spoilers but those who have already watched know what I'm talking about).
So what did Dr. Summers trigger in Neal that made him lose faith in Peter and in himself? Why does he give up on the legal life again when he - once free - could have easily found work that feeds his desire for the thrill within the FBI, within security firms or insurance companies (like Sara)? Of course the conversation with Dr. Summers may have reminded Neal of how much he missed the high life. But it shouldn't have tampered with his identity. Neal claims to not know who he is, I say he has a fairly good idea. He knows what he's good at, he knows he doesn't do violence, he knows he wants an extravagant lifestyle and he knows who his friends are. That's a lot more than can be said about just any person.
So in a way, Neal went back to old habits, but they became very purposeful. It stopped being a game to him and it became about getting out for good. He somehow went back to shady behavior yet grew as a person and lost all joy in it.
I feel that part of his arc remained unfinished at the end of Season 6. Neal was on his way to learn that he doesn't need to steal to be able to live out who he is. And it kinda stopped there halfway.
I feel like Neal was about to become a Robin Hood type of guy. In saying that he could never change, Dr. Summers solidified the fact for him that he had definitely changed, but since everything was going too slow for him, he used the old methods to speed up the terms of his release. One last con.
The con to get out. For good.
I just wish I didn't have to analyze that in a wholeass essay. I wish it had been spelled out for us in the ending of the show. I wish I didn't merely have to hope that Neal found his peace after Dr. Summers got into his mind, while deep down knowing he is haunted. I wish someone had told him that he didn't have to listen to her.
I wish him peace.

Hey I'd appreciated if you could stop scrolling for a second and read this.
The game company I work for won't have enough funding for July. It's unfortunate but sadly it happens with start ups. What this means for me is I will not be getting paid this month. I do have money saved for if this were to happen but I recently had to go to the doctor's to get something checked out which will be giving me an extra bill to pay this month. It may or may not be expensive since I don't have medical insurance. I have yet to receive the bill.
It would help a lot if you'd reblog and share this so I can get more outreach/ a commission or two so I can pay my bills for this month.
I also have a sheet that I'm working on for Digital Art which I will push out later today. So if you'd rather get a drawing instead of a 3d model that too will be an option.
I'm also working on a website to sell existing 3D models that I've made but right now that is a bit far away as of being finished.

Hey guys i'm looking to buy an Akiha, but i'm a college student so i don't have a lot of money right now. how cheap can i get one for?
EDIT: BUY I MEANT BUY. FUCK I CAN'T CHANGE THE TITLE.

Fellow boy-Akiha enjoyer detected ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) A man of culture, I see.
If you want one for cheap and don't mind buying used, check your local Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. I've been lucky enough to get several for under $50 ea. Happy hunting!
u/pm-me-akiha-titties replied 3 hours ago:
If you're a college student, the cost of buying an Akiha isn't your biggest concern. You'll need to pay for routine veterinary care, clothing, a cane (many cheap Akihas won't be sold with a cane), enrichment (Akihas don't like being left alone! What are you going to do when you're in classes?), and, of course, food? The Akiha Care Guide provides an estimate of monthly expenses for Akiha raising.

| Yeah i live in a dorm but its a single so i dont have roommates. And i was thinking she could just hang out in my apartment while im in class? And i can bring back food from the dining hall. So i dont think she really needs clothes or whatever if shes in my room the whole time.
|| u/knightyknight replied 1 hour ago:
|| yeah OP you can ignore that simp. some people love to spoil and coddle their akihas and then warn eeeeeeveryone how expensive they are. well of course they're expensive if you treat them like people.
|| anyways I have a buddy who's an akiha breeder so I get mine for dirt cheap. you can always try to find a breeder in your area and offer to buy the dams off them once they stop being fertile -- they'll usually sell them for next to nothing to clear up space for the next young dams. ===
Topic: [Advice] How to make less noisy?
u/SmolTaterTot posted 7 hours ago:
Hi folks. I recently bought an Akiha, and I love him to pieces! The only problem is... I don't think I was prepared for how noisy they can be. Mine's always meowing and moaning and whining all day and night. I've read the FAQs, so I tried hitting him when he wakes me up in the middle of the night, but he hasn't stopped. Any advice?
u/himejooooooshi replied 5 hours ago:
UNGRATEFUL [huffy face][huffy face] being whiny and needy is an Akiha's charm point
u/ArrowToTheNiichan replied 7 hours ago:
You done goofed. You clearly aren't giving him enough attention since he's crying all the time, so hitting him (i.e. giving him attention) when he wakes you up is just encouraging the behavior. Go back and RTFM again, specifically the part about behavioral conditioning.
But it's true that Akihas tend to be pretty loud no matter what. Some vets can remove the vocal cords for you if it really bothers you that much, but insurance won't cover it. Good luck.

Topic: TIFU by getting a "friendly" pair of akihas
u/sirtwixalot posted 12 hours ago:
I read that akihas need attention and get lonely easily, but they can also be intimidated by unfamiliar akihas, so I decided to buy a pair of akihas from the same breeder so that they could keep each other company.
I got them Friday afternoon, and they spent Saturday and Sunday grooming each other and wrestling together. One of them calls the other "nee-san," and the other calls the first one her "puppy." So they seemed to be getting along really well. I wasn't even having the problems with them refusing to bathe or eat that I hear sometimes happens with akihas. So I thought they seemed like really good companions for each other.
Then on Monday.... I went to work and left them at the house.
When I came back... I think I'd be banned if I described what I saw.
Imagine if a jar of mayo exploded all over a bed.
Sooooooo TIFU.

So this week in “the universe makes a concerted effort to give me more panic attacks”:
- my sewing machine has broken for the second time this month. Last time it fixed itself. This time it will not. Tried replacing the plug in just in case it wasn’t the whole machine - no good
- went hunting for mother’s sewing machine, which needs an extra huge transformer to be plugged in in this country without burning down the house
- found mother’s machine. No transformer. Pooled the family brain trust. The transformer may have been thrown out (mother’s machine also despises me and was why I never picked up sewing again for a decade)
- partner’s mother’s sewing machine is 3 hours drive away each way, and they do not currently have anywhere we can stay over while retrieving it (this machine also HATES me and will not sew for more than 2 inches without jumping)
- we have at least 3 costumes to finish by mid May, all of which are at least 6 different garments - and another 2 by mid June
- my disabled ass has finished two costumes in May before, both much smaller and I nearly died
- just found out I need to entirely redo the lining on one of them from scratch because one of my panels was too small but I trimmed the goddamn seams early to try and french seam the fraying fuck
- for some ungodly reason the embroidery thread I was using to try and make a lil doll face is bleeding black dye across the fabric that will not wash out
- just found out I’m not getting anymore billable hours at work, possibly until mid April
- my insurance company has now decided to stop covering half my meds up front, correctly deducing that it’s gonna be way harder for me to submit receipts for reimbursement because their online portal is a hellscape. Unrelated to sewing crisis, just not helping
Fortunately I do not stand alone against said universe and between us partner and I were able to sneak in on a huge sale today and afford an actual new sewing machine, which can be repaired by the shop we bought it from if it also dies
(If we’d waited another 2 days no chance we could not have afforded it, woulda had to get a dinky baby machine and hope it was as powered by dark gods as the last one or go thrifting
One friend who went to sewing school has told me multiple times my previous machine should not exist (sewed 8 layers of insulated padding on tension setting 2) - the model is completely discontinued and I couldn’t even find refurbished
Another friend has now acquired 3 thrift/given machines, none of which actually work and are all missing parts
This was somehow literally the best week this could have happened if it had to happen at all)
So yeah hyperventilating still happened but I am learning new tricks to stop that and didn’t get a full blown panic attack, we remain triumphant
And we made pancake cookies

I always think it's really funny whenever anyone considers Macro Cosmos to be a villainous organization because like, I do get it, it's the company that Rose is CEO of, and he was the main antagonist of Sword/Shield, and Oleana did sic some of the employees on you when you were trying to stop Rose from unleashing the Darkest Day, etc etc. But at the same time, it's a massive corporation and you know that the vast majority of the employees within that corporation had absolutely no clue about anything Rose and Oleana were up to. Even the employees that Oleana sicced on the player probably had very little idea of why they were being told to attack; in fact I think one of them even says they're just doing it because it's their job, or to keep their insurance or something? It's been a long time so I can't fully remember the dialogue, but something like that.
But just imagine being a Macro Cosmos employee and some reporter comes up to you after the events of the main plot and is like, "Do you have anything to say regarding Chairman Rose's attempts to summon Eternatus and the Darkest Day?"
And you just work in like, IT. And not even a high level of IT. You do low-level IT work. But this reporter is shoving a mic and camera in your face and so you have to be like, "I don't know, I just work here."
And then that gets broadcasted on the news as an official quote by an employee of Macro Cosmos, villain grunt. You see it on the news after heating up a TV dinner because you can't really afford fresh ingredients on your employee salary. And then your parents call you and they're all upset about what this means about your future career and how no one else will ever hire you now that you've become a villain, and they raised you better than that.
"I'm not a villain, I just do IT!" you tell them.
"Macro Cosmos is a villain organization, it's all over the news!" they say.
"Mom, Macro Cosmos employs 300,000 people. We supply power for all of Galar and then some. What Chairman Rose was doing was his own personal project, most of us had no--"
"He was going to destroy the entire region and you're just making excuses!"
"I've never even seen the man in person! I just work there! In IT! I barely make enough to pay rent! What do you want from me?!"
And then for the next month your friend roast you about "hey is that your evil boss calling you to do crimes" and "hey do you have to blow up the world for your evil boss" and "hey if you're going to blow up the world for your evil boss can you give me a few days notice first" and so on. They think it's so funny. And through it all you hear on the news that Rose has turned himself into jail, and Oleana is doing community service, and you barely know who is running the company (it's the CFO, you think, whoever that is), and you never once see Oleana in person and you think that's probably for the best --
And then you get laid off four months later because, despite supplying everything in Galar, Macro Cosmos stock has dropped and the CFO thinks that employee layoffs are the best way to make up for the loss in profit and, as a meager IT employee, you are dispensable.
"Your crime spree is finally over," your friends say.
"I only hope your criminal record doesn't stop someone hiring you," your mom says even though you were never charged with anything because, as you've told her a thousand times, you just worked there.
Really, the fact that everyone labels the whole company as a villainous organization . . . is really very funny.

high ground [vash the stampede] .08.
Tumblr media
Summary: Snippets of the little moments in between the chaos of traveling with one Humanoid Typhoon. [Vash/Reader]
prompt: procession.
A/N: Practice for the larger series I have in mind and practice on how to write Vash’s character, so this will be on the short end. more on the mc’s background mini-arc.
It starts with a letter. Vash will never understand how the members of the Roessler Mailing Company always managed to find their intended delivery target, but having seen the work she picked up from time to time he understood that they were persistent above all else. He watched from the other end of the diner talk as she talked to the brown-haired man, thanking him before taking the letter and opening it.
She frowns, something he isn’t used to seeing, as her eyes scan the letter over and over again. She lets out a sigh before pocketing it and walking over to where he and Wolfwood are sitting. The Insurance girls had taken a job at a local shop to make extra money, so they wouldn’t be seeing them anytime soon. Since he has known her, she had been making deliveries on and off to the mailing company, but those up to recently had been few and far between. Blue eyes watch her and Wolfwood talking, but he doesn’t seem to catch the gist of what they are really saying.
“And what are you going to do about this?” Wolfwood remarks while dragging a huff of his smoke. She shrugs, as if she has already been defeated and there isn’t much to do about the issue.
“I have to go,” she sighs out,  “I have no other choice.”
“Why do you need to go?” Vash can’t help but ask, as she turns to look at him. It sounds something between whine and something serious that she doesn't know what do say for a moment. She gives him a sardonic smile that makes her look older than she actually might be.
“This isn’t a thing I can say no to,” she pauses, as if choosing the best words to describe the situation, “It is part of my contract that I do deliveries whenever I get called on. It’s just my turn this time around.”
“Couldn’t you just ignore it?”
She laughs before answering, “Ignoring it or leaving it alone isn’t something I can do. They’ll just find me again eventually.”
She stays quiet after that, which Vash has come to understand to mean that she will no longer be speaking about the topic at hand. Wolfwood shares a look with him, but they don’t say anything either and the rest of the night is spent drinking and playing cards with the local townsfolk. She does the same as well, but leaves the bar earlier than either him or Wolfwood do. It isn’t until much later when they are finally heading back on their own that Vash decides to finally ask more about the subject.
“I don’t know the exact details or much about her own situation,” Wolfwood looks up at the moons above them with a somber stare, “But the Roessler Mailing Company is known to use to sorts of couriers to get their mail around this blasted desert from mercenaries to indentured servants. They pick up orphans while they’re young and train them, so they are so indebted to them that they spend the rest of their lives paying for it. Some die while carrying out deliveries and others would rather not live that kind of life anymore, so they disappear…but they’re always found somehow and they have to pay twice the price for doing all that work.”
Vash can’t help but stop walking and frown as Wolfwood turns to look at him: “Like I said, I don’t know her own situation, but I am sure she’s got it figured out. She’s a smart gal.”
“I know, but still…” Vash drifts off, remembering the early days of their friendship and how she moved in and out of his life due to making so many deliveries.
She would make a complaint here and there about having to always meet him and it cost her and though it never seemed to bother her, Vash couldn’t help but wonder if any of that cost her most of her life. He couldn’t help but wonder if this was all that she has known all her life -- following someone’s line and order so that she could live another day.
In the morning, she’ll give them her goodbye for now and it will take Vash a long time to ask her the questions bubbling up from the night before.

My 2023 Review of PetsBest Pet Insurance + a few tips (LongPost)
Pet insurance will only reimburse payments that you have already made and this can take months. You will need to have a good savings account and/or credit limit to cover the costs up front. It’s rare to find a vet who will do a payment plan and it can be really stressful to have your ability to cover a large transaction during nonbusiness hours be the only thing stopping you from saving your pets life. So #1 apply for CareCredit ahead of time and if possible have a savings account and good credit limit for emergencies. Usually if the transaction is larger than $200 you can get a 6 months no-interest period with CareCredit. The limit is often determined by your credit score & income but the more you use it and pay it off the higher they will raise your CareCredit limit over time. As far as the amount is concerned I’ve seen people with CareCredit as low as $500 and as high as $10,000. Our starting offer was $2500 and was bumped up to $6000 after using it for over a year.
There are two main ways deductibles can work in pet insurance. Some companies have one deductible per annual period that you need to pay before receiving benefits. Others will have a deductible per incident and then anything related to that illness/injury in the future your deductible will have been paid already no matter the time period (which might not be good for accident prone dogs but is great for chronic illnesses) PetsBest does an annual limit that is customizable so it’s hard to give exact estimates but here is what it looks like for us: We pay $32/mo for Mandanas insurance for a 90% reimbursement level and supposedly unlimited annual limit. That $32 also includes the supplementary package for chiropractic/acupuncture/rehab (more on that later). We chose a $250 annual deductible that we have to meet by filing approved claims. So for every claim they first subtract what isn’t covered > then subtract the 10% “copay” >> then take that amount and subtract it from the $250 deductible >>> if the annual deductible is met then what’s left (90% of the approved expenses) is payed out in a check or via direct deposit. (It took us a little over a week to get our check).
Preexisting conditions is another thing that can vary in pet insurance. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to this. PetsBest doesn’t cover preexisting conditions but if your pet develops chronic issues they will continue to cover those expenses longterm as long as you don’t cancel your plan and start it over (as mentioned above you will still have to meet the deductible every year even if it’s the same issue). We recently got a large check for Mandanas elbow mass removal and the emergency visit that was related to that surgery. I asked how this would affect our future rates and PetsBest assured me they don’t change rates based on claims and payouts. (They have a super secret formula for how they change their annual rates which I think involves the pets age and other mystery variables. I guess we’ll see later this year if they raise our rates drastically after paying out)
They are in the business of making money and will use the fine print against you whenever possible. This goes for every claim you make but here is our specific example. As mentioned before, we chose to add on the chiro/acupuncture/rehab package and that has been our biggest disappointment (and as far as I know you can’t remove it from your plan without canceling and reapplying which is a big No No because every claim would now be considered preexisting!) For starters they will only cover these things if prescribed and performed by a licensed vet, so you are limited in that capacity even if the chiropractor works with your vet and comes highly recommended. The second issue is that they will only cover their definition of these therapies and that might not be what is used by your vet. My vet doesn’t do acupuncture in the strictest sense bc trying to convince a dog to stand still for 20 minutes with needles in their back is often more trouble than it’s worth. Like many vets nowadays, she uses aquapuncture which is saline/b vitamin injections into acupuncture points. It take about a minute to do all the injections and it has been one of the most effective treatments for Mandanas back issue. PetsBest doesn’t care what is best for the pet. They say they will only cover acupuncture or electro acupuncture (not acupoint, acupressure or aquapuncture). So if you are interested in various types of therapies be sure to read the fine print and not just what they will cover but specifically what they won’t cover because those are located in two different places in your policy. (Another note on this point that I’ve seen others experience is that they will try to claim everything they can is a side effect of the preexisting conditions. So if your dog has allergies as preexisting then they may try to say any skin issues, ear infections, diarrhea, UTIs ect from here on out are caused by the allergies and it doesn’t matter if that’s true or not. I haven’t personally experienced this yet but it does happen with every pet insurance company I’ve heard of so just be aware of that.)
Filing a claim is both easy & troublesome. All I have to do to file a claim is take a picture of the vet receipt and proof of payment (which would be the CareCredit receipt if that’s what was used). That picture is taken through the PetsBest app. I put the date the problem first started and a little description and then hit submit. In 35 days you should receive an email with a breakdown or what was covered and what wasn’t with a description next to each of why that decision was made. Recently they said it’s taking 42 days for claims to be processed, so that’s a decent chunk of time you have to manage a big transaction until you get reimbursed. If you file one claim and have other vet expenses come up before that claim has been processed go ahead and file those too. They will go over all of them in one session at the end of your waiting period and that will save you time in the long run.
The reason I say it’s also troublesome is because they have automated messages that talk about how your claim is delayed because of incomplete medical history due to lack of communication from your vet. I have a close relationship with my vet and that is absolutely false. When those emails are sent out I have been at my vets office and they haven’t even received the requests from PetsBest yet. Upon my request the staff will send the information via email to PetsBest and PetsBest will continue to say they haven’t received anything and that it can’t be processed. I have time-stamped emails from my vets office that proves otherwise and I’ve talked to PetsBest customer service who say they have the documents they need and to just ignore the email. As someone who struggles with healthcare related PTSD, this is really unacceptable. Vets and their staff are already taxed beyond belief due to the massive ratio of vets/pets in this country. To send out automated messages that discredit vet staff and encourage pet owners to put pressure on them is crazy. It quickly ruins the pet owner-vet relationship and for what? To make things slightly more convenient for the paid employees of PetsBest? So just know going into these claims, that they may actually need that paperwork but it’s better for you and your vet to call PetsBest as often as needed to confirm what they have on your account before turning that energy towards your vets office. (Also, when you call PetsBest you need to have your claim number available to type in even if you aren’t calling about a specific claim or it will be difficult to talk to a real person and you may get stuck in the automated call process or have your call dropped)
I know this is a long post, so I think I’ll wrap it up here. If you’ve made it this far then I hope you’ve found some of this information helpful. I don’t claim to be an expert on pet insurance. This is just my experience from having & using it over the course of the last year with a sick dog. I’m sure I will post more about it in the future when I’m able to offer more insights as to whether or not it’s worth it and if this is a good company to use✌️
