But why have Snoopy fans on Twitter become so obnoxious nowadays when it comes to comes to obvious jokes?

It’s so bizarre but more than once before I saw someone makes a small tweet just like “haha Snoopy’s doing drugs” and tons of quotes will be people jumping at them?

Like the internet makes jokes abt cartoon characters doing non-innocent stuff literally all the time (and the OG tweet is pretty tame tbh) yet now if it’s Snoopy suddenly thousands of quotes jumping at them like “WTF Snoopy would NEVER DO THIS, he likes friendship and love LEAVE HIM ALONE and KYS you DEGENERATE SCUM!!”

anyway, basically hylian courting is a lot shorter, think “lesbians with the uhaul” type of energy, like sort of the classical medieval “does thee wish to pursue marriage with this one?” ← how hylians ask u out for the first time lmao

if it helps, they do tend to get to know one another well, talking about morals/kids/life goals/preferred lifestyle/house/etc. pretty clearly and quickly, then using the in between time to sort of stew on that information

id say the total time is sort of something like 6 months? maybe 3/4 if they're really compatible

(so bc i love interpreting video game logic for real world building, I actually blame this on how fast Zelda/link get together in games despite having sometimes never met before that moment lol)

like i said, ill be posting about this later

pretty basic, just saying we don't really see hylians in big groups, despite the organizations they form, like kingdoms/knights or on a more personal level, towns/families/etc.

(once again, in-game appearances/video game logic translated to real life to draw these conclusions)

like not only are family units pretty small, like nuclear family setup, with like 2 parents and 2 kids, or single parent 1 kid type of situation, but the towns or collections of these families arent very big either

hylians kind of use their government the way it was intended lmao?

like the villages and towns matter more for everyday decisions than the kingdom/royalty, like Zelda would esstientally just be the mayor of Castle Town for those constant decisions,

while occasionally is called on to make decisions like for several towns or like is a natural disaster happens

meanwhile humans are, in comparison, in Way Bigger groups, both on an organization scale, and a personal scale

like u have all these specific branches of government, whereas im sure the population difference doesn't help,

and on a personal level, humans can easily have like multiple parents, lots of siblings, and once u combine that with each parent having family too, and those families like to meet up? All together??

yeah, itd look insane to any hylians (who’s smaller extended family may just make up their own village and that's it)

3. I've touched on this

like the use of spices, syrups, seasonings, etc

but also the complexity of dishes too, like chilling cream and mixing it for awhile to make ice cream, or even just getting ordering a pizza,

that's a lot of processing, like making the dough from flour and other ingredients, to letting it rise, to making the tomato paste, making cheese, then combining those things with any other toppings, all into one dish??

i like to think that hylians have only just started to touch on actual complicated cooking processes (as in BOTW, where they sell flour and salt, so people besides Link/Wild must know what to do with it)

this has the advantage of impressing any hylian with what a “creative genius” you are lol

4. look im just a fan of medieval time periods Links

so i think its funny if the hylians are used to like 4/3 layers and ur over here like, “wym, if i take off my shirt there's nothing underneath?”

one of them gets bold enough to ask, “d-do you not. do you not have undergarments??”

you “just my boxers? like just to cover my di-”

also this makes its easy to seduce people here? LMAO

clothes are def higher quality, after all there's not as many artificial processes or materials interfering,

plus u usually get some sick embroidery on it too!!

5. so like i get it, Link is the main fighter in games

but like, the few times there is a war/army in loz games, there's rlly not a lot of strategy, beyond just finding the enemy and fighting

tho im partial to that hylians/most inhabitants of Hyrule abide by the “lets meet up either literally by inviting each other or just between our territories to fight”

with occasional guerilla warfare (by any means necessary/stealth/ambush attacks/strategy) that's only rlly used either by Demise/Ganon, or by the wilder individuals/races in games

or maybe even the more civilized fighters in an emergency

and so that means by this logic that all of the Chain use kind of wild techniques compared to their race/kingdom lmao

id imagine its not too surprising to also see “every fight is a bar fight if its for my life” from individual travelers, so im sure they're not viewed too crazy (esp when ppl know their the hero that constantly has to deal with guerilla warfare from Ganon)

but its be hilarious to watch the reactions of both the Links realizing they’re in a bigger group that should be using “proper” fighting strategies and seeing the general publics reaction to this absolutely feral, armed to the teeth, trained hylians with their equally wild human lol

LMAO everyone thinks ur the reason they started using the more brutal fighting methods bc ur human, ur a bad influence lol

(humans would use it primarily, esp after we converted to use that method in warfare a couple hundred years ago i think?)

changing course a bit, hylians tend to use weapons (to compensate for difference in strength compared to humans, and since they don't experience/get a lesser version of adrenaline)

while humans tend to equally rely on weapons and our body as a weapon (marital arts/basic self-defense)

6. this is mostly bc the hylians only rlly seem to have the basics of music, books/stories, theater, and art

i have, surprise surprise, another post abt how i think this came to be,

mostly based on how human curiosity is indomitable and insatiable and the endless force that has not yet met its immovable object.

or at least an immovable object they haven't at least poked a little, out of curiosity lol

like we went to space for that reason, we reach the most dangerous corners of our planet (deep underwater/volcanoes) out of sheer curiousity/for the sake of simple knowledge of the thing

so needless to say, curiosity can absolutely drive any field to its limits, including the arts, which is why we can have stained glass, or movies/tv shows, hell, the marvel that is Hatsune Miku lmao

(fully for entertainment, a projection of light and sound, what is essentially magical illusions but u did it hte hard way, to the hylians)

on a different entertainment related note, i don't know if the hylians would be super into sports, or not really at all? mostly bc they have to use their fighting/training against real threats, not the sort of “fake” threats that sports are

but on the other hand i could see people like knights wanting to use their abilities for something other than violence and fighting bc their life or their villages lives depended on it

bet the Links would enjoy it for those reasons especially, what with at least sumo wrestling being a sport or activity for them at some point in history, and practically beg u for any new games to play, or to ref their games, bc whewwww

im sure they could get pretty competitive lol

7. obviously, their mostly influenced by the Japanese language

id almost like to imagine a sort of, if not outright Japanese (like with earlier heroes like Sky) then a sort of English-Japanese hybrid further along the line

sort of like how English has German/Greek/Latin roots and therefore u can see what words or structure comes from where, or even how u can understand a fair amount of basic words when other languages share the same roots (english, pants = spanish, pantalones)

would make for some funny miscommunications

or even better, most hylians liking ur unique accent or the Links love to hear u talk bc of it lol

i am. a little sad :c can you tell me a good thing that happened?

Firstly im sending you a big hug if youll have it and I hope you know that tomorrows always a new day new chances and that im rooting for u!

But the other day i stayed up all night bc lifes been tough but we were playing minecraft! just my wife and some pals and it was awesome and after everyone went to bed we wanted to stay up so i cozy gamed with the wife and we had to go to the dispensary because i was out of weed that i use for eating/chron pain and it was getting tough to move w/o so we hopped in my car to go. I got there right at opening and there was a line to get in which was a first! so i got in line and noticed everyone was so friendly i was masked and quiet and everyone just idly chit-chatted and shuffled in to the waiting areas.

Thtats when the most beautiful thing started happening, the music was on some smooth psych groove rock and eveyone just kinda started chatting and soon we all were chatting! I was even getting gendered correct! someone complimented my mask, we laughed and told jokes about getting to high on accident or what not and mind you the age ranges here were like from 20's to 70's and we all were just sharing in laughtrer and joy and funny stories and then one guy announced he had been clean for 4 years that day from opiates and we all congratulated him and cheered and it was so amazing. and as people shuffled in for their meds we all shared good byes and well wishes and the original group that started there soon clustered together as we all laugh a lil more and i finally went in after the one woman sat with me and cracked jokes abt the funny guitar sounds and i told her "put some stink on it!" and she cackled and loved it and it was so pure and human and social. i said my goodbyes got my meds and the one lady was chatting to the man at my register who was cashier and she said goodbye and my cashier told her "hold on let me come give you a hug please you are amazing" and she yelled in elation going "HOWD U KNOW I NEEDED A HUG TODAY I REALLY DID" and my heart soared because all these people all these walks of life all sharing in love and joy and compassion and triumph and hardhsip and none of us knew eachother one bit.

The world is good, its really hard but its made with real good amazing people and we are all so full of love and can come back from anything because thats what makes ppl so great. People are the greatest thing to happen and i mean that

okok i was reading ur "why u should read ___" posts and it made me think of the time a friend recommended i read sense&sensibility bc she knew i was always complaining abt being a 'third parent' bc of being the eldest daughter and she was like "i think the book will speak to u on a certain level" and to this day the dashwoods' trials and triumphs are my most stressful and cathartic reread lolol. so i thought it would be cool to ask u since ur into jane austen PLUS have a cognitive neuroscience bg: what do u think a person's favorite austen novel (or heroine! or hero!) says about them? the more absurdly detailed you can get (once i saw a post "what ur favorite [tv show] character says abt u" that predicted the kinds of grades u got lmao) the better🤣

I don't think your favourite novel (Austen or otherwise) says anything about you.

My best friend is a very nice person and an accountant, she loves reading bloody thrillers and mystery novels. She ranks her favourites by body count. My favourite novel is The Fairy Godmother by Mercedes Lackey and my favourite Austen novel is Mansfield Park. I like the magical world-building in the first and the characterization in the second. I don't think either says anything about me personally (other than that I have good taste, lol). As much as my friends may joke about it, the person I married isn't even a little like my favourite character Henry Crawford.

Sometimes people really like characters that are a lot like them, but sometimes they hate them. I honestly think a lot of hate for Marianne Dashwood and Catherine Morland is people not wanting to remember when they were a dramatic or naive teenager. I personally really enjoy reading from the perspective of someone who is very dissimilar to me, like Fanny Price. It helps build empathy.

I think what most people enjoy in fiction and in real life can be very different. I made a Venn diagram recently of my three favourite TV shows and apparently what I love the most is murderous women, enemies to lovers, and people who want to die but can't because of magic and then rediscover meaning in life. I don't think that means anything, it's just something I enjoy in fiction.

That said, if you relate to Elinor Dashwood and reading Sense & Sensibility is cathartic, that's great! Enjoy! Jane Austen writes great relatable characters.

It is very concerning to me that ppl in the supernatural fandom r just now (barely) starting to recognize the racism in show. Like the show is very deeply seeped in white supremacy in a way that was very obvious to me when i first watched it at 11. Like I used to be very confused when ppl talked abt Supernatural as a progressive show??? I used to joke with my friends in highschool calling it whitesupremacistnatural bcuz that it is literally the show. White supremacy is so baked into the show and its ingrained into the foundations of the fictional world that Supernatural takes place in. I really cannot take white fans of the show in particular seriously bcuz i feel like if u cannot recognize the incredibly blantant racism in Supernatural i do not really trust any analysis of the show that u make. The only reason I can think of as to why so many fans are unable to recognize the racism in the show is bcuz just abt every scifi/fantasy show from this period had similar issues to varying degrees (although i do think that Supernatural is one of the most unabashed abt it). Like once you pull back the disguise of fantasy Supernatural is just another The Birth of a Nation esque tale that romanticizes white heroes defending the "real" humans from the dark races who cant help being born evil but must be eliminated anyway. Its incredibly unsubtle to a point that often made the show difficult for me to watch especially the longer it went on and the older that i got. That being said I still watched 14 seasons of Supernatural. I love the show and talk abt it constantly bcuz (surprise surprise) it is possible to enjoy a show while still acknowledging the ways that it is deeply problematic. I dont think its a coincidence that ppl r just starting to acknowledge the racism now (nearly 4 years after it ended). I think someone could write multiple dissertations abt the racism and white supremacist undertones in Supernatural bcuz there is so much of it and it appears in so many varying ways.

I don’t have much to add to this just letting you know that I feel you!!! literally hilarious to call this show “progressive” lmaooo like sure maybe in the same way that a corporate pride tweet made by a company with notoriously unethical business practices is “progressive” <3

show created primarily by white men for other white men that ended up attracting a massive white queer audience that was all too happy to gloss over the loudest and ugliest parts of the canon: blatantly racist central concept of Good vs Evil, dean being blatantly abusive to sam for the majority of their relationship, irresponsible casting choices wrt antagonists like Gordon and Raphael and s13!Michael as well as the disposable henchmen/extras who were far too often portrayed by black and brown men and women considering the glaring shortage of black and brown “good guys” in this story, truckloads of blatantly homophobic and misogynistic jokes that were supposed to be viewed as charming, and so on.

no need to unpack any of that though! talking abt that stuff gets you labelled a hater. keep walking on eggshells around the majority of the fandom and tagging discussion of dean’s canon actions as “anti dean” and critical discussion of the show’s super unsubtle roots as “negativity”

as long as the white queer audience got their goddamn d*stiel crumbs they were satisfied lol. and fuck sam - the ONLY part of this thing that makes it worthwhile to watch all the way through as an adult bc characters like him are genuinely so so rare - bc he gets in the way of their generic white gay ship that’s built on flavorless scraps and wild conjecture. as always this website’s user base has impeccable taste and commendable analytical skills!

the mirror reflection stared back at you as you sighed. 

ever since you were young, you’ve always been the tallest in your group. you were tall among the rest of your friends, and when it came to lining up in height order for class, you were usually near the front.

it didn’t bother you at first, but the insecurities started to come up when people started remarking on it. at that point, you always thought it would be hard to find someone who would genuinely like you and your height and not make back-handed jokes about it.

that was until you met eric. you had met him in class and you had thought that he had the sweetest smile. ever since you were introduced, he would not stop clinging to you, even if you tried to push him away or blatantly avoid him. so ultimately, you decided to indulge him and that was when you realized that you might actually like him.

you kept it to yourself, of course since you were so sure he wouldn’t return the feelings until one day, he approached you with a bouquet of handpicked flowers in his hands.

“be mife? i mean- mine!”

you sighed. even with eric constantly telling you that he liked that you were taller than him, you always continued to feel like you were out of place. you knew how some people would stare or how your friends would make jokes that you would simply laugh off, but deep down, it made you feel like you didn’t deserve such a sweetheart like eric.

you sniffed, feeling your eyes start to sting and your heart weighs down. you sat back down on the bed, staring at the mirror defeated. thoughts rushed through your head. what if eric was lying and just being nice? what if he-

it took you a while to realize that you had started crying. you panicked immediately, knowing that eric would be coming over soon. at that point, you just wanted to climb into the covers of the bed and hide from the world.

and so that’s what you did.

you opened the blankets of your bed and climbed in, completely ignoring the fact that eric was probably unlocking the front door right now. tears started to escape your eyes. you knew that crying wouldn’t solve anything, nor would it make fix your worries, but it definitely helped lift the burden in your chest, just a little bit.

you lost track of time as you curled in on yourself, feeling exhausted from the tears. but then, you jumped when you heard the door of your bedroom open.

you gasped.

“y/n!” the familiar voice paused, his footsteps halting. “y/n?”

you held your breath.

“i see you,” he said, his tone lighthearted and cute.

you sighed, knowing it was useless to hide from him. suddenly, you felt a large warm weight fall on top of you. it was his body, draping over you and enveloping you in his familiar warmth. he let out a long, low breath.

“i missed you, my dear y/n,” he spoke sincerely. you felt your throat close up again, tears welling up in your eyes. you prayed desperately that he wouldn’t open the blankets and see your teary eyes.

“m-mhm,” you managed to quietly hum, trying to calm your wobbly voice. but he quickly noticed as he stopped.

“y/n,” he whispered, pressing an ear to the lump on the bed. “are you okay?”

“yeah, i…” you were interrupted by eric grabbing the hem of the blankets and gently peeling them off. he frowned when he saw the tears dribbling down your cheeks. 

his eyes softened, “hey.” he pouted when you let out another small cry. he quickly shushed you, cupping your face in his hands, “what happened?”

you shook your head, unable to speak.

“okay,” he sighed. “you don’t have to talk about it,” he gently smiled. then, he opened his arms, “c’mere.” he lifted you up effortlessly as he pulled you into a tight hug. you melted into his arms, clutching his shirt as you let your tears flow freely. he held you for who knows how long as he rubbed his hand up and down your back.

“i hate my height,” you finally spoke. 

he pulled away, bewildered.

“why?” he whined. “i think your height is amazing. i love how tall you are.”

“yeah but-” you curled in on yourself. “i feel like i look off-putting or something. i always feel like people make jokes about how i’m taller than you and-”

“they can choke.”

you startled, looking at him with wide eyes. though, eric’s always been the aggressive type.

“i repeat,” he started, his voice soft again. “i love how tall you are.”

“i know, but-”

“you never let me explain,” he smiled.

you froze, “hm?”

“i love how tall you are because it makes me feel safe,” he replied. “i may be taller than a lot of people, but i’ve always wanted a partner who’s taller than me. you give amazing hugs and-” he paused, a blush appearing on his cheeks. “i love being the small spoon…” he admitted, smiling giddily to himself. “i don’t want you to ever think i don’t want you to be taller than me because i love you so much. i love burying my face into you and i just love-”

“okay,” you laughed, pressing a finger to his lips. “that’s enough…” you were certainly flustered.

“hey, you’re smiling!” he pointed out, giggling. he used his thumbs and wiped away your tears. “don’t feel sad and try to hide it from me, okay? i’m always here to listen.”

“‘kay,” you whispered with a small smile. he grinned back warmly.

“can i be the small spoon now?” he asked, looking at you with pleading eyes.

“fine,” you rolled your eyes fondly. you both fell into bed as you got into position, holding him close to your chest. and since you were taller than him, you could fully encompass him, making your heart lighten a bit. 

he let out a pleased sigh, pressing a quick kiss to your lips, “this is truly what life is like. just keep on holding me.”

i'm cry laughing some people on twitter are now saying "izzy bashing" needs to be tagged in fics. how did these people ever survive watching this show where izzy is the CANON ANTAGONIST i'll never know

benefit of the doubt but i think most of them have gotten to this point gradually. when they first watched the show they were not attached to izzy the way they are now. i know for a lot of people it was blorbo at first sight with izzy but i've also seen izzy enjoyers say they didn't like him at first, and then fandom made them care about him.

like i'm pretty sure for a lot of ppl it started off with isolating themselves from ppl who made posts that they didnt like, like ppl who criticized ofmd for being based on two real people with direct connections to actual real-world slave trade (which is an incredibly valid thing to criticize abt ofmd).

another one that i think funneled a lot of fans towards being so delusionally attached to izzy was people pointing out or complaining about the disproportionate amount of fan content for izzy compared to prominent characters of color—which is a consistent issue in fandom no matter what the media, and is also a very easy one for people to be uncomfortable with whenever they see it get pointed out. people venting that "fans care too much abt this white man" often make fans who care abt that white man very defensive right off the bat, and then rather than engage with why they feel defensive or question if maybe their enjoyment of this character is fueled by implicit bias (which it might not be, to be clear! im not saying—and i have never said—that everyone who enjoyes izzy likes him for racist reasons), they stop listening to the conversation abt white favoritism and continue blorboposting as much as they want. it's incredibly easy for fans to brush off this convo as "just starting drama" and avoid the topic altogether because "fandom is for fun!" and they dont want to think abt difficult topics like racism and implicit bias, they just want to enjoy their blorbos in peace.

so they kept narrowing the takes they were seeing until they were in an echo chamber that kept moving more and more towards complete woobification of izzy hands. these people are now looking at the show entirely through izzy's pov, making posts abt how sad it is that none of the other characters are ever nice to him, how frustrating the show is from his perspective, how it feels to be deeply in love with someone who doesn't love you back. they've stared at gifs of con's micro-expressions and read angsty fanfiction and looked at endless izzy fanart and their entire ofmd fandom experience revolves around empathizing with this one character even tho the show itself continually makes him the butt of the joke.

at this point, telling these people to rewatch the show doesn't even matter. they've spent so much time over-analyzing every single one of izzy's scenes to the point where the emotional responses they get from these scenes are not the emotional responses anyone would have watching the show for the first time. they've warped the entire first season to fit their version of the show and are forgetting how often the show itself bashes izzy.

and the icing on the cake is the trolling. there's like, one or two people on here who go around sending anon hate and leaving nasty comments on instagram posts and harassing people on twitter for... like, i would say "for liking izzy" or even "for saying positive things about izzy" but like. i've gotten these messages, and the most sympathetic i've ever been to izzy was the post i made like "maybe he's mean bc he has chronic IBS. i'd actually understand him more if that were the case." so when i get these messages it's easier for me to just laugh them off bc it's so obviously just someone trying to make me upset, but people who do care about izzy (a lot of them being the same people who avoided engaging with the "why does fandom care so much abt white characters" convo) get these absolutely horrible messages about how they deserve to get hate crimed and they should kill themselves. and these fans who didn't want to even see vaguely negative posts abt izzy bc they just want to enjoy fandom in peace are now like "im targeted for just liking a character!"

so that's how we get to people saying that "izzy bashing" needs to be tagged. never mind that their definition of "bashing" almost certainly includes things that are not bashing but are just things that contradict the way they headcannnon him.

Just looking at this and this rly is the toxic cocktail day huh. And J2 doesn't even really get why he feels so miserable b/c he should be happy about this, right? He got what he wanted which was more than the other clones get. I do think even tho J3 had a bad fuckin day and he's typically kinda bad at taking initiative and his solution to literally everything in the world is like strip b/c its time to fuck or die, I do think he comes home and sees how miserable J2 is after he's done kinda snapping at him for sitting around and how he had to pick up the slack he's like oh. feel like i need to elaborate on musics love shape. long post ahead bc god there is so much explaining that needs to be done here. the situation is Intricate and Dire. also spoilers for balding gate or whatever

i went in without any idea who i was gonna romance but then i met gale and was like ok. i think this is the guy. and had made up my mind on it until wylls introduction where i was like oh fuck hes so hot but i couldnt change my mind id already promised myself id romance gale.

anyways. the party ends up being music + shadowheart + gale + wyll for a while. this is not because of preference but bc i literally managed to miss astarion (i went to the bottom of the hill hes on and then said out loud to myself 'nothing else here' and went back in the nautiloid.) and lae'zel (saw the two tieflings that caught her but didnt see the cage and decided to avoid conflict). i eventually swap out shadowheart for karlach when i meet her (it was besties at first sight for me) and then get told by some friends who r also playing that im a fucking dumbass and completely missed astarion and lae'zel (id already saved the grove by this point so LMAO)

i go back to the crash site, grab astarion, then use a scroll of revivify on lae'zel bc shes dead in the mountain pass (whoops). theyve both missed literally everything. i go to camp and astarion immediately reveals to music that he is a vampire. awesome. theyre also both charlatans which is a lil funny to me. i add neither of them to my party bc by this point im extremely attached to gale wyll and karlach and music has rlly high approval w all three of them.

now in truth the love shape was already in the equation bc gale is still not over mystra. music is unclear as to whether or not this affection is still reciprocated on mystras part (and tbh so am i . i havent finished act 2 yet ok) but when they shared a Moment in the weave gale enjoyed it so clearly thats also happening. so we have a love triangle going on. this is fine and manageable even if music is not a big fan of the whole the-guy-im-into-has-a-bomb-in-his-chest-bc-of-his-ex-who-he-still-loves thing.

we get to the underdark. i have a long rest. astarion has smth to say. in-game it has been two days since i finally grabbed him from the crash site (has he just been waiting that entire time for someone to walk down that path so he could stab them?). cutscene plays out, he wants music to tell him hes pretty, music responds w 'gales more my type', and astarion makes a comment abt how hell have to work on himself if hes to 'catch up w the competition' um?

so the love triangle is now a sort-of love square. could be just a lil silly fun joke and i think of it as such (at least when ignoring the meta (thats another story)) until i get to act 2 and have a long rest in the shadow-cursed lands. and astarion says to music smth like 'were kindred souls, were walking down the same path, we should take over the absolutist cult and rule the world together' WHAT IS HAPPENING. what coded declaration of love bullshit is this. music and astarion barely even know each other.

so, great, love triangle is now officially a partially unreciprocated love square. but then. but THEN. to make matters WORSE for ME PERSONALLY. having another long rest in the shadow-cursed lands and a cutscene starts to play. wyll is dancing and so music joins in (naturally, theyre best friends w wyll (literally, they have maximum approval from him) and a BARD) and then things start getting. quote. "intimate" and i go oh no i have to put a stop to this bc things have started getting more serious w gale. and when i tell wyll that they should both step away from this he looked so genuinely heartbroken it made me feel so horrifically sad.

so the partially unreciprocated love square is now. even worse. a love shape of no real design. with music, some random loser tiefling bard charlatan in the middle of it all. gods help them

FIRST on my list of his display's of butchness: this is Roy "I gave my girlfriend head while she watched a video of me crying my head off" fuckin Kent! Y'all are not gonna pin him for toxic masculinity, c'mon. If that ain't the most butch-ass shit I've ever heard of...

SECOND: I'd put a lot more weight into the suggestion of toxic masculinity if he'd stayed the way he'd been at the beginning of the show but this is a man who grew a fuck-ton even in just the first couple episodes, not to mention throughout the show (which I haven't finished).

He's not a bully, which is surprising for such a hyper-masculine character. Hair as far as the eye can see, with a beard, furry thighs and arms, a low growly voice-But for all his swearing and other foul language, he isn't a bully. He doesn't pretend, he says no, and he sets clear boundaries, but even with children who he has loads of power over, he's very careful to never cross the line into bullying. He jokes, clearly knowing the children, barking orders and playing ball. He has a niece and even though he doesn't understand the book wrinkle in time, he reads it to her and only after getting three quarters through does he go to ted to demand what the fuck its supposed to be about.

THIRD: the way sometimes he looses speech and yet he STILL. FUCKING. COMMUNICATES. beautiful. Which rolls straight into FOUR, which is the way he communicates! He's very clear, very blunt, obviously. But its not just that. Its how as we get to know Roy Kent, more and more, we see how when he gets overwhelmed or annoyed, he often steps back from the situation so that he doesn't blow his temper at someone he likes or someone who doesn't deserve it...which is very, dare I say it? chivalrous! Its not a word you think when you think of roy kent, but he is! He's chivalrous! He isn't quite comfortable around rebecca, think of early season 2, but when he sees she needs it, he tells her she deserves the goddamn world in a partner, not just "fine", and he didn't tell her that because he had to! Keeley would've left it and he could've gotten away with a minimal answer. He told her because she deserved to hear it and he knew that and he's a fucking kind person!

just like that time at the end of season 1 when he and keeley were photographed by that man and he stole the photos and then handed them to keeley and gave the man back his camera. he could've smashed the fuckin camera. he's exactly the type of person to smash the camera! but he didn't. why? because they cost a shit-ton of money and because he wanted keeley to have photos of their first date. ;_; its called CHIVALRY. which. is. i see fucking red!!!!!!! the show multiple times (including in the finale) belittles his feelings and/or throws away his characterization and then treats that like a #Feminist moment. & like in the previous example, yeah keeley prompts phoebe to say how she sees roy & that’s a sweet moment, but keeley never actually apologizes or says how she sees or thinks of roy outside of sex.

& then in s3 honestly his apology letter to her made me feel ill. like there’s a difference between owning your shit — which i do think she deserved an apology for him breaking up with her out of nowhere — and saying everything is your fault. that’s not growth, that’s still self-hatred. and like i understand keeley was going through a lot but i don’t think it was fair to him for him to confess his love & her fuck him while like. presumably knowing she doesn’t want to get back together.

i’m also so fucking livid about the show comparing roy and FUCKING RUPERT????? in that scene, again for some sort of shallow #GirlBoss moment. fuck that fuck the writers fuck like most of the fan attitudes i’ve seen.

also the way the “roy is sorry for not understanding keeley” scene is played — yeah, he should’ve communicated better, but she just started yelling at him out of nowhere & revealed she’d been complaining about him being clingy to all their colleagues. and she never apologizes for not talking to him sooner & her bottling her feelings until she exploded at him???? instead he apologizes for doing….. something she’d never told him she had a problem with.

i’m working on a fic about this aspect but the show has no fucking sympathy for his becoming disabled and it’s so transparent. obviously ted lasso in general is really bad at acknowledging systemic issues — “just be a goodfish!!” :))) — it’s a liberal show & you should overcome adversity by individual work ie therapy & forgiving your oppressors. but like there’s literally no acknowledgment after that scene when he gets shut down by keeley in s1 of how ableism affects roy’s self-image.

as a disabled person whose mobility impairment started with a knee issue in sports, i also think the show did a fucking shit job with his disability in general. like they played it for a laugh — you might not have watched 3x11 yet so feel free to skip this paragraph but “i played injured all the time / you can’t go up stairs!!” followed by jamie still playing injured to, what, make a point about forgiveness?? shows how fucking seriously they took that, and roy was walking up stairs earlier in that very episode.

similarly, “everybody run to the bus… except roy!” earlier in s3 was an emotional moment for me bc like oh they’re acknowledging how this affects his life!! …..and then they showed him running (on pavement!!!) with jamie all the fucking time. like sure not every knee issue is the same as mine, okay, whatever, but either be consistent or throw in a line about him having a good day today or something. jesus fucking christ it’s so ableist & careless & disrespectful.

anyway my hot take is that as they’re written, keeley & roy shouldn’t be together not because, as brenden fucking hunt put it, “he has work he needs to do on himself first,” but because she doesn’t respect him & fundamentally you can’t make compromises with people who think how you are is wrong.

i do really like keeley especially in s1, i think a lot of this is fuck-ups on the writers’ parts that keeley were she a real person either wouldn’t have done or would’ve apologized for. but as it’s written? fucking yikes.

One more thing abt the Barbie movie (i rant a bit and spoil a bit, again i liked the movie but there are things that could have been much better). I wish they had expressed that patriarchy also harms men at the end of the day, rather than the message just being hahah men stupid :))

Like it was sort of alluded to at the end when Ken said he thought that patriarchy was just abt horses and when realizing it wasn't, he wasn't interested in patriarchy anymore (but then why continue to uphold it?). There could have been a moment to show that the heteronormative roles both Barbie and Ken have been placed in is a disservice and impediment to everyone involved. Again it sort of alludes to this with Ken's breakdown saying "it's Barbie and Ken". The big message then being "maybe it's barbie AND IT'S Ken" and all the Kens going Ken is me or whatever,, was kind of getting to a good message but sort of stopped halfway?? And then the joke the narrator makes saying the Kens will have the same amount of power that women have in the real world (implying they will never be equal) is again sort of frustrating? I think the focus should still be on the Barbies bc this is the Barbie movie after all. And as someone raised as a woman it is cathartic to see a world where the roles are reversed and maybe ending with a ken-centric idea isn't what's needed... but still.

Reducing the patriarchy from a very real, dangerous and systematically planned institution to just haha stupid guys get in power just cause :) and woman brainwash suddenly :) haha... just doesn't.. idk, I know why they did it, it was campy, and it also shows how truly stupid the patriarchy is, and how men get in power easily, BUT there could have been more nuance there. Shshshsh okay, so this will be mostly my headcanons and whatever fanon things abt him that i liked bc let's be real our boy literally got like three minutes of screentime and also you gave me one of the hardest ones anon because I don't really think that much abt corroded coffin outside their relationship with the rest of the party but!

one aspect about them i love: i love, love, love when people make Gareth a petty little shit? Like yes, hold that grudge and yes, tease your friend on his pathetic gay crush, i believe in a little shit Gareth supremacy™

one aspect i wish more people understood about them: I think a lot of people are making fun things with his character but i have a slight problem with a miniscule part of the fandom. When he broke and told Jason where he could find Eddie I wish people understood that he is also just a child and he at first was all sarcastic abt and it wasn't until Jason got fucking violent that he spilled and it's so understandable that he did? Like you are just a child (16-18 IS still a child), you've looked at a guy who was always just a bark and no bite and suddenly you are on the ground and you don't know what he will do, it might end with a few broken bones it might end with your life, the boy who was just no bite is suddenly a crazed man sniffing for blood and you are terrified. You are just a child. It doesn't make you a coward, it doesn't make you want to stop being someone's friend, it just makes you a terrified child and people who hold it against him just kind of piss me off.

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have that involve them and one other character:

I have this little headcanon that him and Eddie met first when they were just children when Gareth was being bullied and Eddie steped in and then got beaten up instead of Gareth. Like he's eight and there are kids bigger than him and they are looking for an easy target which he is and he think it's the end of the world and then suddenly there is this kid, older than him, one which he has never seen before, which is strange because here everybody knows everyone. At least that's what his sister always says, she always complains about it, his mother calls it teenage angst but you can't help but agree. So he should know him but he's never seen anyone this strange around here before, he would surely remember but he's here. He's scrawny and he moves all funny, like his limbs are moving before he thinks where they're going, he has a big black shirt with some scary print on it on, one that covers almost all of him, his head is shaved and he has the biggest eyes Gareth has seen. He's also yelling. Yelling at the kids to get a better target, one maybe more their age. And so they do. Afterwards when they leave, the boy turns to him and grins, his teeth are bloody, there is a split on his lip and dirt on his face and clothes but his eyes are still shining and the smile is genuine and big. "Had worse" he says and makes it sounds like a joke. He laughs and the boy somehow smiles even bigger. He's taller than Gareth and his back is illuminated by the sun. There is a slight breeze making his big shirt flutter behind him, a little like a cape would. "It's a lame superhero name" Gareth says and Eddie laughs.

Gareth looks at his big easy smile and the bruising forming on his face and the shirt that almost looks like a cape and doesn't believe him.

why no one listens to kyle

kyle is so annoying bc all he does is run around throwing all of his unsolicited advice at everyone and judging people and acting like he knows better than them and there’s a good reason why no one wants to listen to kyle and they just ignore him when he does LMAOOO. also i hate it when people say kyle is the voice of reason like is he rlly even the voice of reason? if the show even has a voice of reason i think it would be stan bc he usually says more rational things at the right time but whatever DHSJJS. like stan has said way more profound things in the show that like blew my mind than kyle ever did lmaoooo. like that time he talked sense into randy abt his alcoholism and was like telling him to drink in moderation or the time he totally roasted mormons and sm more shit lol. but ofc all the fans have to kiss kyle’s ass bc “hE’s tHe sMArtESt oNE”. kyle is the worst voice of reason ever bc no one ever listens to him or wants to listen to him like…LMAOO. a good voice of reason is a character that actually does offer wisdom at the right times whom the other characters look up to for support in tough situations and shit like kyle ain’t yoda or uncle iroh. i think the show’s original voice of reason was chef bc he played that role rlly well bc he was a chill dude that was sane for the most part who the boys (INCLUDING KYLE) went to for their problems, so literally who tf thought it was a good idea to replace chef’s role as that person with KYLE? voice of reasons are all calm and sensible and kyle isn’t he’s overly emotional and reactive and does dumbass shit all the time LMAOOO. but that’s why no one wants to listen to kyle when he gives them a lecture abt something they’re doing wrong. like something i’ve learned over the years is u have to be rlly careful with who you take advice from. people always give advice from their own filter and how they view the world and what they would do, so if u take advice from someone retarded and crazy you’ll end up doing retarded and crazy things too LMAOOO. u have to take your advice from someone u actually wanna be like, and no one wants to be like kyle bc he’s fucking crazy and they don’t look up to him in any way shape or form BWAHAH. plus kyle is a huge hypocrite too and he doesn’t walk it like he talks it, i mean if u actually want people to listen to you LEAD BY EXAMPLE. which kyle never does, he preaches abt morality but he never acts morally. people actually respect what u have to say when u do that lol. i love that one moment in the episode “fishsticks” when craig lowkey called kyle out on his shit in a subtle way when kyle was shitting on jimmy and telling him what to do bc jimmy was letting cartman take credit for the fishsticks joke. he’s like “just give him half” like craig was saying how he should be grateful that cartman is still giving him half of the credit & the royalties for the joke, and fighting back at cartman to try to take all the credit back would just be a dumb thing to do bc u can’t beat cartman LMAOOO. craig is straight up like “i like you jimmy, but you aren’t gonna win this” honestly craig was being such a good friend that’s how u can tell craig is a real friend to jimmy and kyle is just a fake friend LMAOO, craig was trying to protect jimmy from doing something dumb that could get him hurt while kyle was encouraging jimmy to just do what he always does which is getting into pointless drama with cartman LMAOOOO. (bc craig is actually sane in the head and kyle isn’t) but ofc kyle gets all butthurt abt this bc he has to always be right and he can’t take any criticism so then he has to argue with craig for no reason abt this and is like “no!!1!1 if cartman didn’t write the joke he doesn’t deserve any of the credit!1!1!” and craig is just so done and like ignores kyle and moves on LMAOOOOO i love him. but that was an example of another character calling kyle out for giving bs advice and how he always acts like a know it all when no one fucking cares or likes him or wants to listen to him.
