Marry Me [John "Bucky" Egan x reader]

Author's Note: In honor of the last episode coming out yesterday (my heart is still broken), I wanted to write something for Bucky. This is based on the portrayal of actors in the Masters of the Air series on AppleTV+. I respect the referenced real life stories and people wholeheartedly. This is not meant to offend anyone.

Warnings: Historical Inaccuracies.

Hope you enjoy this short fic! It seemed like something Bucky would do!

Bucky stormed into the Cafeteria, quickly scanning the room to find someone. The moment our eyes met, he started making his way towards me with long steps. I couldn't tell if I should be worried about what he was going to tell me or excited he came to see me, as I could feel my heart beat rise the closer he got to me.

"Bucky! Are you all right?" My voice betrayed my uncertainty as he reached me. He stopped for a second, his eyes wide, before he closed the distance between us with a kiss.

His action caught me by surprise, making me let out a soft gasp, which allowed him to deepen the kiss. I could tell we both got lost in it, forgetting we were in such a public place, but I was reminded of it as soon as I heard other pilots whistling around us, making me pull away from him. It was the first time he showed any physical affection towards me in public.

Before I could speak, he dug into his pocket, took my hand into his and raised it to his lips.

"Marry me." Was all he said after his lips brushed the back of my hand. All I could do was raise my eyebrows as my eyes grew wider, not able to form any words. I hadn't expected any of this. His eyes were slowly losing their confidence with each silent second that passed between us, so I pressed my lips against his again, in a chaste kiss that meant more than anything we'd shared before.

"John Egan, of course I'll marry you!" I finally managed to say as we pulled away. He raised his free hand to my cheek, to wipe the tears I hadn't realized started falling.

"I've been given three days leave. I've asked for you as well." I laughed at his words, which I could tell confused him terribly.

"You want to do it now?" I tried to keep my tone serious, but it was so out of nowhere, that I could barely stop my laughter. He nodded, looking away. "I'm sorry, I'm not laughing at you, I just didn't expect this when I woke up today."

"Honestly, me neither. But I don't know when else we're going to find the time, and I want you to become Mrs. John Egan as soon as possible."

Five hours later, we were married and making our way through our friends, all dressed up in their formal military suits. I bought my dress from a small shop in the center of Cambridge -- the moment I laid my eyes on it, I knew it was going to be the perfect wedding dress.

Standing in front of the Chapel, Bucky put his arms around my waist, pulling me to him. He kissed me deeply, only breaking apart when we were out of breath. When we did so, everyone around us was clapping and whistling.

Buck, Bucky's best man, was taking pictures of us. We could hear the camera going off every other second, at this point we had at least twenty.

"Take pictures of Mrs. John Egan! Look how beautiful she is! I need to look at them when I'm in the air to remind myself that I hadn't dreamt this moment!" His words made me laugh, but I shook my head, ready to contradict him.

"Take pictures of us together, we'll have to show our kids someday what our wedding day looked like!" All my girlfriends started swooning over my words, and Bucky just nuzzled his head in the crook of my neck, whispering naughty words.

"The first kid better be named after me!" Buck said, putting the camera away.

"I quite enjoy the sound of that. What do you say, Mrs. John Egan? We should start practicing." I laughed, pushing him away, but he wrapped an arm around my waist and put the other under my knees, pulling me up, and carrying me to his jeep.

3 oneshots, 1 new WIP, and updated 1 WIP. this was definitely one of my least "productive" years for fic-writing in quite a while (although i don't think i published much in 2022 either, looking back). for obvious reasons: i was traveling for more than half the year; and also Riverdale canon was so fucking awful to our ship specifically that i think it just killed off everyone's desire to read and write about them. thanks RAS! <3

4. What was your longest fic? Your shortest fic?

longest: i feel like i win when i lose, my bughead four weddings & a funeral-inspired fic. 16,379 words (and i need to finish the last chapter ahhhhhhhhhhhhh)

shortest: honeymoon phase, my (very first!!) jimmy/kim fic. 1,927 words.

5. What was your most popular fic? Your least popular?

even though it kind of feels like cheating, head underwater was most popular, because even though i started it years ago, i updated it in 2023!

for least popular, if we're going by kudos, it was three conversations about one thing, which was my desperate attempt to make some sense out of the penultimate episode of riverdale s7 lol

6. What fic didn't perform as well as you thought it would?

honestly, i try to keep my expectations low for everything i publish, to avoid disappointment. i guess the answer would be that last one, "three conversations." but like, the show's ending sucked? i'm not surprised people were not dying to run out and read fic about it 😂

7. What fic performed way better than you thought it would?

i really did not know what to expect from posting a Better Call Saul fic. the show ended over a year ago, and i don't really have much of a sense of how big/active the fandom around it is, or was at its peak. that said, i was EXTREMELY happy to discover that there are way more fics for Jimmy/Kim than there were for the last "prestige"-y show ship i wrote for (Peggy/Stan on Mad Men).

so, all that to say, i was really pleasantly surprised to get as much engagement as i did with that little story! and i'm working on another one now and really enjoying writing it. :)

8. What was your favourite fic you wrote in 2023?

i feel like i win when i lose!!!!!!! the first four chapters of that story just FLOWED out of me like they already existed. it was so much fun to write and i think it's a super fun story in general. i reeeeeeally want to finish it.

9. What was your favourite fic someone else wrote in 2023?

Beautiful Broken Things by teaandpinkfrosting: a well-written, well-plotted, sweet, emotional, in-character season 1 Bughead fic in the year of our lord 2023? WHAT DID WE DO TO DESERVE THIS?

Eighty-Six Years by jimmymcgools: a grounded, believable, heartwrenching, yet ultimately hopeful continuation of the most devastating finale i've ever watched in my life? again, WHAT DID WE DO TO DESERVE THIS? [ETA to be extra clear that the finale i'm referencing here is bcs NOT rvd lol]

can u elaborate abt s4 not feeling like st? i don't disagree but i'm curious what ur thoughts are. i also felt s3 really didn't feel like st, like it's such a tonal shift from the first two seasons (and it has a LOT of issues) but i kind of love it anyway so.

before i try to put it into words i have to issue a disclaimer so here we go: i’m not trying to suggest that stranger things was ever like an indie show or underground or had a small fanbase at all, i know that it’s been insanely popular ever since s1 like i fully acknowledge that. however. s4, to me, feels like it was written to maximize online buzz instead of prioritizing the story, more so than any other season, and it worked which makes the fanbase feel different.

the first three seasons were obviously insanely popular and they did have these big moments that became referenced to death. i mean s1 alone spurred the whole barb obsession, the pink dress blonde wig el halloween costumes, the recreations of joyce’s light wall, the eggo jokes, plus people just went crazy like inviting david harbour to their weddings and shit. but that was all…natural. prettymuchit’s eric striffler talked about this in their stranger things commentary track so i’m ripping from him but he essentially said, in reference to s1, it’s insanely impressive how effortlessly the show managed to create iconic imagery that feels like it’s from an 80s movie in 2016. the duffers know that, so every season they ramp it up more and more to try to capitalize off that success. and sometimes i don’t mind it! i know people took issue with steve & dustin in s3, complained that their dynamic was being strung along just for memes or whatever, but to me their bond still felt genuine and authentic in that season so i personally was cool with it.

s4 just feels…rushed. which is insane because they had 3 years to work on it. purely speculating here, i think perhaps the duffers and netflix knew that it’d been forever and people were starting to forget stranger things, so all those rewrites and added content were kinda written with the idea of maximizing viewership in mind. that’s how we get ideas like: creating a fan favorite character whose imminent death is shoved down your throat so hard that the actual moment just rings hollow, shock killing and then un-killing max, bringing stancy back out of nowhere, starting and then dropping multiple storylines as the season progressed, giving el and hopper the exact same storylines they had in season two, having brenner take up insane amounts of screen time, etc etc etc. just…bad choices! and bad choices that you can tell were manufactured to either go viral (eddie and max) or start debate (stancy) while basically forfeiting the quality of the show in the process.

okay here’s where i’m gonna get bitchy. again i know the shows always been popular, and i like eddie, but eddie….took away a lot of the fun of the fanbase. and this is coming from someone who writes eddie fic!! i love him!! but i hate when any one specific character just completely monopolizes all content and conversation about a show, and among casual fans eddie completely 100% did this. you cannot see a single tweet about ST without thousands of replies all being like “is eddie coming back??? is eddie alive?????” and it just annoys me! i don’t like it! it makes the fan reaction and aftermath of this season just…different than the others and a lot less fun.

i think for me the different vibe all comes down to the fact that i didn’t like season 4. i was really disappointed after i finished it and honestly very sad i remember texting em being like “i don’t want to admit i’m disappointed because then that makes it real” but it’s been 5 months now and i can fully say: i was disappointed. it wasn’t what i was expecting, it wasn’t what i wanted, it was just not the quality of the show i know and love! which again is all subjective! and there’s a lot of good moments from it, but s4 just doesn’t hold a candle to the other 3 and it’s somehow impossibly made me …. not excited for s5. which i didn’t think was something that could happen!!

Hello dear, I wanted to take the time to also tell you about how much I love your works! After you started us off with Isaiah 45:23 and made poppies our dreamling flower I think "That I should wedded-be" has left a really deep impact on me and will always be one of my favourites. The whole eating of the heart and the way it is referenced throughout the series of follow-up works as the way they are connected is just. So. Good. For me. I haven't read the latest installment but I'm looking forward to it! (I want to have the time to enjoy it so it's still on my to read list.)

Maybe sprout wings is my the second fav, I have worried so much over these two over the course of reading, it was great to follow along and be able to read it as you publish it. I usually prefer reading fics when they're completed, but with this fandom I have found dedicated writers whose fics I gladly follow along while they are written, you among them. :) I could go on which of your fics I like but I'd have to list all of them, and there are so many! I will have to reread a few! Vampire Dream! Slutty dress Hob! Power bottom omega Hob! So many great short stories!! So many brilliant ideas! SIREN DREAM my dearest heart <3<3<3 The most I hope to see more of are your two unfinished works, If I please you and The Whole of Love Contained. 1389 Hob has a special place in my heart always and forever and I am very invested in his journey to Canterbury, also I am dying to know what happens to hurt Hob with fretting Dream and all his siblings. I'd also love more of the Wine-dark sea!

162, 874. Jesus only that?

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Doctor Who but specifically The Paternoster Gange sub-fandom, Oz books, Steven Universe, The Owl House, The Dark Crystal extended universe. In high school I was really into Hellboy II.

4. What are your top 5 fics by Kudos?

1. In the Night We Trust ~ It was a week out from Eda's Requiem and I'm from SU fandom so I was shocked that there was yet to be smut about the two pining grown ass adults and apparently other fans felt this way too.

2. I Thought Maybe We Would Kiss Tonight ~ This one is also horny and about the same characters so the Kudos tracks.

3. Words - My Vastra/Jenny soulmate au. Good. I'm proud of this one.

4. Blankets ~ This one??? The first time I tried to write using my senses.

5. Courting Miss Flint ~ THIS ONE??? I had a crush on a friend in college and didn't know how to act on it. This story about violently anxious women is never going to be finished.

Sometimes, if there's enough to reply to. "Nice work!" I'll forget about probably even though I appreciate it, however "I like how you blah blah blah" will get something from me because I love talking process.

Uuuuhhhh. Of the ones I like, We Speak Our Vows and Sorry Whispers which is the Tavronica wedding fic.

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Blackberry Stone will be I just need to finish it I swear I will finish it

8. Do you get hate on fics?

If I have I am not aware of it. At the time of my life when it would have hurt me the most I was oblivious to it and now it's just like "whatever, I'm not in charge of other people's feelings". On a side note this morning I realized I react to the word "cringe" in much the same vein as those tiktoks about Americans unable to take British gangsters with any seriousness.

9. Do you write smut? If so which kind?

Yes but I don't post as much as I'd like. I don't like to post smut for the sake of it even if I love when others do. I need it to be in character and have something to say about the characters.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest crossover you've ever written?

In general I despise reading crossovers. I will almost always skip unless I really like the author or I'm desperate for more of a character or rare pair.

By most insane do you mean meticulous like my Gentleman Jack/Doctor Who crossover "Never Meet Your Heroes" in which BBC's singular blue waistcoat for leading Victorian lesbians gets referenced?

Or least likely to crossover as in Wonder Woman 2017 and Pat Gang fic in which Etta gets some sword advice from some local spinsters on the eve of The Great War. It's called "Protect it With Your Life".

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of, but I wouldn't be surprised if my work has been farmed to sit in the belly of some great AI beast somewhere.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I'm aware of. If it has I can't think of the example at the moment.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No but I feel if I did I would just tweak the co-author's grammar and characterization and do nothing else. I take so long to write my own fic, I couldn't be accountable to handle another's work in a timely fashion.

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

AU Dorzma. The rest are tardigrades being subjected to various violent science experiments.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Vastra/Jenny laundromat AU. I'm better at Victorian commentary than contemporary commentary.

Sensory writing. Keeping things in character.

Starting with a plot instead of a feeling

Coin toss for the original Oz books or Syfy's Tin Man (2007) when I was 13. Both were Scarecrow/Patchwork Girl.

I Keep My Hands, 'Til You Come Into the Water ~ Missing Tavra and Onica and Tae scenes from J.M. Lee's The Dark Crystal Flames of Resistance which is so hyper specific but this is the one I like the most. It came out as I envisioned and wanted it with hardly any typos.

1. "Eyes of A Child !" (The Moody Blues): This is where the phrase "Time It Has No Day" comes from. Very early on in the project, the fic was titled "Ponds by the Sea" instead. Tracks 2-3 helped me work up the Feels to write about River missing her parents. Honorary mention to "Chasing the Sun," another Sara Bareilles song from the same album as "Manhattan." With its mention of "a cemetery in the center of Queens" and the line "you said 'remember that life is not meant to be wasted," it always makes me think of Amy deciding to go back in time with her husband.

Tracks 4-6 are all played by Twelve on his guitar in the patio scene of chapter 6. "For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her," isn't mentioned by name. But it's what I hear when the Doctor "strikes up a repeating arpeggio," then suggests the name Emily for their baby.

7. "Kooks" (David Bowie): This was one of those songs I picked out super early and wrote towards. First of all, it's David Bowie, one of PCap's faves. And second, the pre-parental cuteness omg. I'm surprised this song's not referenced in more babyfics, tbh.

8. "Mean Old Man" (James Taylor): It has a kind of gentle humor that reminds me of Twelve and River's relationship in general. It's also loosely associated in my head with the scene where they're getting dressed for Ramon and Nardole's wedding.

9. "Overjoyed" (Stevie Wonder): Obviously I wanted Twelve to request a Stevie Wonder song for him and River to dance to. I considered "Isn't She Lovely?", but the words would be directed more at the baby than River. Also, I find that one a little too cheesy, even for me. I'm not thrilled with the lyrics of "Overjoyed," but I think that musically, it's one of Stevie's prettiest love songs. (Granted, I really only know his big hits.)

10. "Pink Moon" (Nick Drake): Pure self-indulgence, but can you blame me? Imagine Peter Capaldi singing and playing this song on a lazy summer evening, and tell me you don't melt.

11. "Lay, Lady, Lay" (Bob Dylan): I was a little bummed when I saw that Abbey Road was released 5 months too late for Anthony to bring home to his parents after spring break. Dylan worked out well, though, since 1) he was at the Isle of Wight (foreshadowing to chapter 16!) and 2) "Lay Lady Lay" has this kind of languid, laid-back romance to it that I think goes well with The Vibe(tm) of the whole fic.

12. "In the Still of the Night" (Ella Fitzgerald): Not my usual genre, but I can absolutely see River being an Ella Fitzgerald fan. I heard this song years ago and thought it was lovely. It was one of the first songs I added to the playlist, so I was "writing towards" it for a looong time.

13. "The Only Living Boy in New York" (Simon & Garfunkel): Runs through Amy's head when she imagines seeing her Raggedy Doctor again. Although I'm considering dropping the direct reference in Chapter 10, since it's highly improbable that readers will guess the correct song from the kinda-sorta-lyrics given. It'll always stay on my inspo list, though. :)

14. "Tuesday Afternoon" (The Moody Blues): Of course I had River and her parents meet up on a Tuesday Afternoon.

Tracks 15-16: Just some atmosphere for the cottage holiday chapters.

Tracks 17-18: These songs really were performed at the 1969 Isle of Wight festival. I had to go hunting through various performers' IOW 1969 setlists for something to give Jack his 'haunted moment.' I listened to some awesome new-to-me music in the process, before settling on "Ramblin' Boy."

19. "Gypsy" (The Moody Blues): This song was performed at the 1970 Isle of Wight festival. It wasn't released until November of '69. Having it appear in the band's August '69 set list is a leeetle stretch, but not impossible; it just would have been a "preview" from their upcoming album. (As Justin Hayward explains in the fic, lol.) I feel the stretch is justified by just how perfectly this song encapsulates Ten in Last of the Timelords Angst Mode(tm).

Tracks 20-25 are all directly referenced in the last few chapters of the fic.

22. "Fly Me to the Moon" (Frank Sinatra): When Peter received a BAFTA last year, Simon Blackwell talked about how Peter would sing "Fly Me to the Moon" for vocal warm-ups while filming In the Loop. (Can you imagine hearing that???) I just had to use that one, even if Twelve singing it to River during her labor would've been a much softer, gentler performance than vocal warm-ups.

23. "Time in a Bottle" (Jim Croce): Croce wrote this song when his wife told him she was pregnant. The reason River complains it's "too sad" is because it was released shortly after Croce was killed in a plane crash 3 years later.

Oof. Sorry to end on a bit of a downer there. I really appreciated this ask! The music I associate with this project is very special to me.

I think all fanfic should be self-indulgent, but I specifically let myself get as self-indulgent as I wanted with the music referenced in Time It Has No Day. I picked songs that resonated with me, or I thought would resonate with the characters, without paring down to what would be most recognizable or make the most sense.

Making Rory Williams a millennial Moody Blues fan? Why not? I know they exist because I am one, and I remember what it was like to be teased for it. (Although my peers have given me less flak as we've all grown up.) Making Twelve think the Moodies are boring? Well, I had to go for the Malcolm Tucker reference. Besides, it's good to poke a little fun at your own faves every once in awhile.

11. Are you partial to a certain character/pairing or are you more equal-opportunity? If you are partial to any character/pairing, why do you think that is?

Well, obviously I tend to write the most about my favorite characters, and my favorite characters tend to be brothers (like the Elric brothers) or at least in a brotherly sort of friendship (like Steve and Bucky). I think a lot of that comes from my brother being my best friend growing up. There are a lot fewer stories about a brother-sister duo rather than two brothers, for some reason, so those are the characters I end up falling for most of the time. I just love the camaraderie and selfless nature of sibling love, two people who have known each other their whole lives and would literally die for each other.

Within brother duos, it's usually really hard for me to pick a favorite, but now I'm wondering what the result would be if I did a study to see whether I end up writing one POV more than the other. Without taking the time to do so (because that would take forever), I would guess I've written more from Ed's POV than Al in my FMA fics, mostly because he's the main character (so he's the one things happen to most often), and because my Parental!RoyEd 100 Themes fic skews things away from Al. In my MCU fics...that's harder to say. I might end up writing Steve more, but with the focus still usually being on helping Bucky through various issues. Probably because that's really what I'd want to do if I were there.

You know, that's interesting. In both of those duos, my first impulse would be to say that Ed and Steve are the ones that I identify with less, but they're the POVs I end up writing more. If, indeed, that is the case.

13. Are there any tropes you used to like but don’t anymore?

Ugh, I hate answering questions about tropes, because I always end up feeling like everything is a trope or nothing is -_- I've never particularly cared for the main tropes people talk a lot about, like "enemies to lovers" or "only one bed" or "high school AU" or whatever. The closest I can think of is that I read a lot fewer sickfics than I used to? After a while, they all start sounding the same unless you do something different with them, because there's only so many ways a person can be lying in bed, sick with something, while someone else takes care of them. I wouldn't say I categorically dislike sickfics - I've written plenty myself - but I think I pass more of them up these days than I used to.

34. What aspects of your writing are inspired by/taken from your real life?

Other than the very occasional dream-based fic or something, it's mostly the small details that worm their way in. Like how I have Steve hardly ever use his voice when he cries - I'm the same way. Or my OC Leyla, who has a cat named Simon who is based on this lovely cat who hung around my college campus one year, who would yowl angrily at you until you sat down and made a lap for him to curl up in (we named him for Simon's Cat). Or any number of books and movies that get referenced because I like them and want to get a chance to talk about them, even just briefly. And...well, I haven't written it yet, but let me just say that when I finally get to the point of writing Steve and Sharon's wedding, the mishap I'm planning for their special day is based on the mishap from my parents' wedding ;)

41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”

There are so manyyyyyyy @_@ I don't know how to pick just one, because I tend to think that whenever I read any halfway-competent fic. I'm pretty confident when it comes to grammar and wordsmithing; I know I can write a coherent story with nothing egregiously wrong. But I always feel like everybody else is so much better at characterization - both at understanding what really makes the character tick, and in conveying that to others. I'm also pretty bad at writing humor (or at least, it takes three times as much effort as writing anything else), so any time I read something that makes me laugh, I think, "I wish I could write like that."

But I have to pick something, so I'll pick the first fic I thought of that fits both of these criteria: "Silver Bullet" by @x-rainflame-x It's an FMA fic in which Ed becomes convinced that Mustang is a werewolf, and it is a hilariously, beautifully written piece of almost-crack XD I long for the day when I might be able to put someone in stitches as much as I was when I read it, while still being so true to the characters even in such an extreme situation.

My brain is 85% KnB headcanons (unless I'm writing my original fiction and sometimes even then).

Here are some highly specific headcanons about some of the characters' media taste:

Kuroko

Since he has been documented to love Stand By Me and to read Makioka Sisters, I concluded he's into character driven stories where a bunch of friends or siblings get into shenanigans and/or philosophize about life and experience its darker side (lol what a surprise), and so I added The Outsiders, Pride and Prejudice and Little Women to his list of favourites and referenced them in my fic to varying degrees.

Kagami

I figured besides Toy Story he would like The Incredibles and generally be into action cartoons with a bit more emotional depth, and doesn't mind a nod towards some more macabre themes. However, he likes happy endings and doesn't want to see something straightforwardly tragic. I also think he doesn't mind slower paced movies when they are visually captivating, so I figured he would enjoy watching Pride and Prejudice (2005) with Kuroko.

Aomine

He's secretly into high stakes emotionally dramatic shows that don't require a lot of processing, like Sex and the City and Gossip Girl, and he gets way too invested. He thinks only Momoi knows, but she told Kuroko, who told no one (so far).

Momoi

This was inspired by the fact that I thought it would be hilarious if Momoi's screen name was "weddingpeachsatsuma" and then I started thinking she likes self-aware magical girl anime, like Wedding Peach. (Doesn't hurt that she looks a bit like the protagonist.) But she isn't like... a proper anime fan. She only likes the ones that deconstruct clichés or come at the subject from a slightly removed angle. (I can't think of a better way to explain it.) Now, this only really makes sense if you know Wedding Peach, but I thought it would also be hilarious if Kuroko managed to tell Momoi that he wasn't her Yosuke but her Jama-P. (But if you don't know it, google Jama-P and you'll understand.)

Thaat was so good! Maybe when Joe and Kel went to that conference they were so excited about, Dixie got to go too and they had a fun time getting a little vacation around the conference events. For a Halloween prompt treating people in absurd costumes could be fun. I'd also be happy with them all supporting each other after a hard day in the ER.

Maria/Linda: When Linda first arrives on Sesame Street, Maria is the person who’s the most fluent in ASL and that leads to her and Linda becoming friends quickly. Linda learning some Spanish sign language so she and Maria can both speak Spanish.

Susan/Gordon: I would dearly love some fic about how they met and fell in love. Or a fic about how they decided that they were ready to be parents and that they wanted to adopt. Maybe something with them geeking out together over science.

Maria/David/Luis: The only logical solution to the Maria/David, Maria/Luis relationships. I actually shipped David/Luis before I shipped Maria/David, so I definitely view this as a full triad.

How do they get together? Are two of them together first and then the third joins them? Or do they become a triad all at once? What do their dates as a triad look like? Do the three of them ever go dancing?

How do they decide to get married? To become parents? Does it matter which of Maria’s husbands is Gabi’s biological father or do they only know for medical history reasons?

Susan/Gordon/Bob: Did they know each other before Sesame Street or did they meet there? When did they get together? One thing I really like is the idea of them having gone to college together and getting up to hijinks. I would love to see some of that. How involved is Bob in parenting Miles?

Anywayyyy, we suppose (except for HOS😭) that in all of your stories reader ends up with the *insert character of your liking😂*, so in a long period of time, and this goes for the series but also for real life situations,

how do you call them? Life partner? It sounds so long, boyfriend? Not sustancial enough for the love of my life😂 Just their name? I call my bff for her name and yes everybody who really knows me knows who is she but idk still not kinda important enough?😂

Like this is one of the things as stupid as it sounds that i kinda like about marrying someone, when talking about them you dont have to say their names cause everybody knows who you’re referring to, and again, sometimes it sounds like a label and more so a possesive label, especially in this sexist society, but it fits i think?

Finally I love how determined your idea of marriage and kids is regarding to what you want, i think we’re about the same age and i cannot have a strong position when it comes to those things cause it is SO deeply and strongly ingrained in our society, and in my family, the idea of getting married, and especially for a woman🙄, to have kids (“You only fully develop as a person once you are a mother” Quoting my fucking aunt), that idk if my doubts are of truly not wanting to get married or thinking about wanting that cause of how much the social pressure is. OK. This is a very fair question.

And when it comes to my actual fics, what they call each other when they're not married really depends on the character:

For Syverson specifically, I think he would just call Y/N by her name. And I don't think he would have an issue with continuing to simply call her his girlfriend. But keep in mind, they're around the same group of people that have known them for a long time. And they're nosey neighbors/family who love to gossip, so everyone would eventually know that they don't have plans on getting married.

For my Steve Rogers fics, I think he would call Y/N his partner in conversations with people who didn't know her and when he was introducing her to people.

For Bucky Barnes, he would say girlfriend when he's being normal and polite. But if he was being cheeky, he'd say cute shit like "my better half" or "my left arm" or something ridiculous like that. He would like seeing people's confused faces. And it's his way to be funny while also subtly keeping his personal life a secret, because most people don't ask him to elaborate.

For Jason Todd, he'd say something dramatic, but romantic, like "consort." But when he was being an asshole and trying to mess with Y/N, he'd introduce her as "my roommate" to people. And Y/N would slap his arm and say, "Jason! Stop calling me your roommate." Then smile at them apologetically and say, "I'm his girlfriend."

For Dick Grayson, he'd just simply call Y/N is girlfriend. And he says it so proudly. Even his tone when he says it makes it very clear to people that it's very serious relationship.

For Damian Wayne, he'd straight up call Y/N his "lover" when introducing her to people – completely straight faced and confident. People would kind of blink in surprise, waiting for him to show some indication that he's joking. But Damian Wayne is not the joking type. Sometimes Y/N gets embarrassed just because it makes other people uncomfortable. Americans are such squares and the term "lover" sounds far too passionate for most people to casually hear in conversation. So sometimes she can convince Damian to call her his "partner."

For Bruce Wayne, he'd just fully call Y/N his "wife" – whether they were actually married or not. He thinks it's hilarious how panicked journalists get, trying to figure out if he got secretly married or not. And the media would lose their minds that he managed to possibly pull off a secret wedding with absolutely no one spilling the secret. When he's messing with people even more, he'll call Y/N "the missus" or "Mrs. Wayne" or any other ridiculous thing stupidly rich men and finance bros say to other men.

I would also like to point out that my sister and my friends that are married never call their husbands "my husband." They say their husband's names. Because we all know them personally and know who they're talking about. I actually pointed out to my sister that I had never once heard her say "my husband" in conversation – even as a bystander to a conversation I wasn't a part of. And she admitted that she found women who constantly said "husband" super annoying 🤣. points at you excitedly!!! okay idk whether u know anything about the mechanisms but just in case u don't(/if anyone else reads this and doesn't): the mechanisms are like a storytelling band ig! idr the official word but yeah it's sorta like a musical but not bc it doesn't rely on visuals. their format is: song, short story with musical backing explaining a bit more of what happened, song, etc etc until the album's over. + they have some stories written on their website (that i will be referencing in this au) putting the rest under the cut

once upon a time (in space) is essentially like.. what if a bunch of fairytale characters were in space and fighting a revolution against an old corrupt king. there are essentially four main characters!

"old king cole" aka dream in this au - the corrupt king prev mentioned who's obsessed with conquering planets and whatnot

"snow white" aka tommy - became the head of a violent revolution after realising her political calls for peace wouldn't work when her sister gets killed(sort of) on her wedding day. there are other reasons for this that you'll see below but i put tommy as the politician bc of how important words are to his character + conflicts - unfortunately, like in canon, he's forced into violence

"rose red" aka tubbo - snow's sister (so tommy and tubbo are brothers) who is essentially this very iconic and proficient fighter for cole's army - she gets killed (again, sort of) on her wedding day and then cloned a bunch without her prev memories to essentially make up armies of super soldiers. in my au tubbo and tommy have been working together to try and start a revolution against dream but more on that in the fic

"cinders" aka ranboo - rose's wife... kinda. i don't think they got officially married bc the wedding was attacked. in my au they get married for political reasons (more on that in the fic). but yeah cinders spends the rest of the story trying to find rose and save her

i'll be going into a lot more depth in these characters' stories (except dream? kinda?) than what we hear about in the album. expect sbi content (sbi is NOT a family though. found family at best i think? we'll see) as well as tommy and dream content in a similar vein to their canon relationship but probably not as intense - depending on how it fits with the story. there's still some other characters i need to sort properly though so we'll see how that goes. but benchtrio will be unfortunately pretty separated throughout the fic - there'll be moments of them together though!

and finally don't let the album ending fool you - i don't want to write a "no happy ending" story. but it will seem kinda bleak in some areas. a lot of this is still up in the air though bc i'm only at the start of writing but yeah !! i'm excited for it i think it'll be cool ^_^ if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask !!

I can't think of a comment offhand but someone once told me in a message on here that she had seen a middle-aged woman at a costume party dressed as one of the good fairies from Sleeping Beauty, referenced my fanfiction, and the lady told her that she knew what she was talking about bc her daughter read it, and I have never been the same since that message.

There's probably a lot of stuff I would write for money lol! I'm also generally pretty open to trying new things writing-wise; the main reasons I wouldn't write something are bc it doesn't particularly interest me or I don't feel like I know what I'm talking about. OH I thought of something I wouldn't write a wedding/marriage stuff for my own enjoyment, but I would do it for money lol!

most recent fave is stars, hide your fires by thepapernautilus (e, ffxiv, wolexarch) -- I both blame and credit this fic with inspiring me to write again and sending me spiraling into deciding writing smut is fun. my only defense is that I don't read tags usually so I was already hooked by the writing style by the time I realized what it was about LOL. i've very rarely kept up with a longfic as it was actively updating and boy every time an update dropped i would SCRAMBLE. i won't even deign to tell you how many times ao3 is aware of me revisiting that fic it's undignified.

april come she will (m, da2, varric/hawke, fenris/hawke) -- another fic that irrevocably broke something in my brain. now that i think about it I never left a comment on the last chapter of either of these fics bc I was sobbing too hard. i pray i may one day write something as soul-crushing.

and I must of course trot out glass silence (e, harry potter, hermione and all three ladies of the most noble house of black) by the lovely menzosarres because my god, what a masterpiece. will never forget someone reccing this to me and me being like oh haha whatever I shall skim this and see if I like it enough to read a longfic *emerges several days later, completely unhinged* holy shit. some specific scenes still have such strong character vibes that haunt me to this day.

i do this dumb thing where i think oh i don't need to bookmark my favourite fics I will simply remember them so. suffice it to say there may be some old faves lost to my hubris.
