Hi everyone! Triggering topic but Pride Month is coming soon amid increasingly violent rhetoric around our community.
If you plan on going to any Pride events next month NOW is the time to order/buy supplies and put together an IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit).
You'll want a CAT tourniquet or two, clotting factor impregnated gauze (NOT clotting powder!), z folded gauze, and a couple vented chest seals. Maybe a pair of nurse's shears too, they're very cheap.
You want to purchase these things from North American Rescue. At least the tourniquets. Cheap alternative tourniquets have a high failure rate. Improvised tourniquets almost always fail. You want a CAT from North American Rescue so when it happens, where it happens, you have the best possible chance of your friend not bleeding out in your arms.
You'll want to take a Stop The Bleed class. You can do this online if none are available in person.
I'm a certified EMT and Stop The Bleed instructor. People do not survive hemorrhages long enough for people like me to get on scene, and police often prevent first responders from entering scenes. You are the only one coming to save your friends. You need to be ready to do that. Once the attacker is down - and it won't be the police who stop him - you need to act or if you can't you need to yell "I have an IFAK in my bag" so someone else can.
Another attack will come. It's only a matter of where and when. Buy the things, put them in a little pouch, and keep them with you at these events.
I don't care if you call me a hysterical doomer. Just get an IFAK and please bring it with you to Pride. Take a Stop The Bleed class. Please.

If you conceal carry a gun, but you don’t carry a first aid kit, you don’t care about saving anyone, you just want to shoot someone.
And you’re stupid.
This is something I said before, and I always get a chuckle out of the one moron who came into my comments with “If I shoot him, I’m sure as hell ain’t gonna go try to patch him up.” because in his hero power fantasy, I guess he saw the guy with the gun and shot him before any single other person got shot. Which is a nice fantasy, and sure it’s possible, but it’s idiotic to think that it’s always gonna be that neat and clean.
I don’t think you’re gonna be patching him up, I’m assuming you killed him. I think the 12 year old down the road who got hit in the arm could use some patching. I think the grandma with a hole through her leg could use some patching. I think the gunshot wound you sustained before you managed to get a shot off could use some patching.
A tiny first aid kit with a tourniquet and some gauze is small enough to keep into your pocket. Given the prevalence of car accidents, other types of assaults, and other disasters/accidents, you’re far more likely to encounter someone you could save with a first aid kit and some skills than someone you could save with a gun.
If you’re hot under the collar, I’m cutting off last time’s “Wah wah wah, but what about my first amm--” Let’s work on your reading skills. Conceal carry. Sure. Do it. I teach active shooter survival classes. Half the people I know conceal carry, I ain't against it. Great. Go get ‘em, tiger.
But if you’re out here with a gun and no first aid skills, you’re just a fucking idiot playing pretend at being cool.

It’s what I wanted for seddie, that the arc ended with them being a couple and that the plot moves forward. Instead we got that shitshow from the creator and it broke my seddie shipping heart, it just wasn’t meant to be. With the loss of my OTP comes acceptance. I will always love iCarly, it literally changed my life 💜

What the Fuck is an IFAK?
And why you need one
IFAK stands for Individual First Aid Kit. It’s a kit that’s small enough to be carried easily on a chest rig or other easily-accessible location, at all times. Its purpose is mainly to treat traumatic gunshot wounds or other hemorrhagic injuries that will result in death very quickly. The point is to be able to keep the patient alive until help arrives. EMS wait times can be super long and they’re only getting worse as the United States Healthcare System is collapsing in real time around us.
Tumblr media
What you NEED:
COMBAT APPLICATION TOURNIQUET (C-A-T)  (DO NOT BUY FROM AMAZON)  At least 1, ideally 2.  The more the better.  combattourniquet.com -  Do not practice with the one you keep in your kit, get an extra if you need to practice using one.  They are meant for one time use.
Hemostatic Gauze (QuikClot or CELOX - NOT POWDER)
Regular Gauze.  More than you think.  Z-fold in a sealed plastic package is ideal.  North American Rescue sells packets of this that are perfect.
Rolled gauze, cloth medical tape, or vet wrap. OR Israeli bandages
Sharpie
Mylar Space Blanket(s)
Chest Seals, several
Nitrile gloves - Blue is ideal, Black looks cooler but is NOT GOOD for doing blood sweeps on trauma patients
Narcan spray (Find a local source at Next Distro)
Helpful to have but not necessary:
EMT Shears
Additional PPE - N95 masks, cpr masks, face shields, trauma gowns
No one is coming to save us. Not in any timely manner at least.  We need IFAKs to save ourselves until EMS can get to us. If they come at all.
Shootings like Pulse and Club Q are escalating. Your favorite gay bar, your pride parade, even your grocery store could become a target for far-right terrorists at any time. With an IFAK you at least have a chance to not watch your friends die in front of you when it happens.
Pre-Made IFAKS:
A good option for most people is to purchase a pre-made IFAK. Here are a few good options:
Rescue Essentials IFAK 2 ($91)
Rescue Essential Compact IFAK ($79)
North American Rescue Solo IFAK ($200)
“But Trash, I can’t afford that!”
Do you want to fucking die?  No?  Buy one.  Carry it.  Get training.
“But Trash, I really can’t drop that much money on an IFAK!”
Okay sorry.  I should know better, I was homeless and semi-homeless for more time than I care to admit when I was young and sure as hell didn’t have money for medical shit.  In that case, contact IFAK Fund and ask them to send you a FREE IFAK.  However, they are donation-based and can only send people IFAKs if people donate money, so it may take months to get one.
If you can afford your IFAK and can afford to throw IFAK Fund ANY money, please please please do.  They are doing some of the most important work in leftist organizing right now.
Remember, no one is coming to save us.  We have to save ourselves.  Only we can take care of each other.

Emergency Essentials 101: Making Sure Your IFAK Is Up-To-Date
Introduction
An Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) is a lifesaving tool designed to provide immediate medical treatment in emergency situations. An IFAK typically contains essential items such as bandages, gauze, tourniquets, antiseptic wipes and other supplies that can help stop bleeding or treat minor injuries. Having an IFAK available at all times offers peace of mind and the assurance that you are prepared for any unexpected emergency situation. It is important to understand the contents of your IFAK so you know what items are necessary for different types of emergencies and how to use them correctly.
Identifying the Need for an IFAK
When considering the need for an IFAK, it is important to understand the different situations that could require its use. These can range from a minor injury such as a cut or scrape to a more serious medical emergency. It is important to assess risk levels in your surroundings and understand which level of care may be required in each situation. For example, if you are going on an outdoor adventure with friends, consider packing items like adhesive bandages and antiseptic wipes even though they may not seem necessary at first glance. This will make sure you are prepared for any potential medical emergencies that could arise during your trip.
In addition to assessing risk levels, it’s also important to know how best to use the supplies within an IFAK if needed. Being familiar with basic first aid principles can help ensure correct usage of these items when treating injuries or illnesses. Knowing how and when to apply pressure using gauze or wrap a wound using bandages can save precious time during an emergency situation where every second counts. Additionally, understanding tourniquet application techniques and the newer models can greatly achieve the desired results with greater ease. As well as potentially prevent further damage from heavy bleeding due to traumatic injury.
Overall, having an IFAK readily available is essential for anyone who ventures into risky environments where access to help isn't guaranteed right away. Understanding the contents of your kit and knowing how best utilize them could mean saving someone's life in case of a medical emergency so it’s paramount that you stay informed on proper usage procedures before needing them in real-life scenarios!
Replenish and Restock
When replenishing and restocking an Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK), it is important to check and verify the expiration dates of all items. This helps ensure that the supplies are effective should they need to be used in an emergency situation. Different components such as bandages, gauze or antiseptic wipes have specific shelf lives before their effectiveness is diminished so it’s important to regularly replace these products with fresh ones when needed. Some medications rapidly become toxic after the expiration date and will often do more harm than good in a matter of months.
Replenishing used supplies within your IFAK can also help keep them organized and ready for use at any time. Start by inspecting each item carefully and discard any expired products immediately then begin replacing them. When purchasing replacements always make sure that they are manufactured properly from reputable vendors so that they provide maximum protection during medical emergencies! Dont shop for a TQ on ebay!
Emergency Situations
When it comes to emergency situations, the most important thing is being able to grab what you need quickly and efficiently. An Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) helps ensure that all of your supplies are easily accessible in time-sensitive medical emergencies. It is essential to keep items separate within the kit so that they can be accessed without wasting any valuable time searching through multiple pockets or containers. Additionally, having a tourniquet you have already tested on yourself  and understand how it is to be applied can save precious moments.
Overall, having an organized IFAK ensures that you can grab what you need quickly during any medical emergency situation while providing peace of mind knowing that you are prepared for whatever life throws at you!
Conclusion
In conclusion, having an individual first aid kit (IFAK) is essential for anyone who ventures into any environment. Having the necessary supplies on hand during a medical emergency can be a matter of life and death so it’s important to consider when selecting and maintaining your own IFAK. Assessing risk levels in your surroundings based on activity type and environment will help determine which level of care may be required and what items must be included within the IFAK. Additionally, regularly checking expiration dates and replacing used products with fresh ones will ensure that all supplies are effective should they need to be used in an emergency situation.
