why i love mahito

i desperately need to rant about his character because my god, hes so well written its mind blowing.

i get asked quite a bit why mahito is my favourite character, of course, i love his appearance. but i also love how beautifully complex his character is.

unlike many other anime villains, hes not evil because of trauma or revenge hes evil just because. hes evil because he follows his instincts as a curse and thats just who he is. he enjoys killing people because its fun, theres no "for the greater good of society" or "i need to prove myself" sort of tropes about him.

(i will add that i actually don’t think he’s inherently evil at all. but that will be for another post)

but this fact also doesnt make him one dimensional how alot of "pure evil" villains are.

due to the relationships established around him, the multiple different dynamics make for an even more interesting character. mahito's dynamic with the diaster curses is one of my favourites. hes shown to care about them as seen where mahito stops haruta from killing an injured hanami, where he scolds geto for putting jogo in danger and also saying he doesnt want to fight jogo when they have a disagreement to what to do with yuji regarding the shibuya plan.

he is shown to care about his friends in his own curse-y way.

mahito is an absolutely beautifully well written and developed character.

hes made to be scary, his actions have consequences

mahito killing junpei, nanami and nobara all prove this. he killed them because he wanted to break yuji and this also additionally adds another level to his character, hes a genuinely frightening villain because every scene hes in, we have no idea what to expect from him.

even his dynamic with sukuna was interesting. sukuna had a few opportunites to kill mahito, he let him off for touching his soul because they both shared a laugh about breaking yuji, which coming from a character like sukuna was very interesting.

mahito embodies what sukuna says to jogo about what being a cursed spirit entails. and i think thats why theres some level of mutual interest. mahito is exactly what jogo couldnt be. and thats also another reason the disaster curses made mahito their leader.

mahito is what a true curse is.

Woke up this morning and it finally hit me that the final nyan night segment was not about Arajin and Matakara, but about Arajin and Senya instead.

The teacher finally musters up the courage to face his beloved Jasmine and "take her" or so to speak (Arajin asking Senya to merge. or. "take him" so to speak) note that they both do this without any doubt or fear, despite being easily frightened before.

Then, when the plan ultimately works out, Jasmine runs off. The teacher is devastated and doing everything he can to find her. (Arajin seems equally upset at Senya's departure). Note that Jasmine is actually shown in the background multiple times throughout the ending segment, signaling to us that she (and Senya by extension) is doing totally fine.

Eventually, the teacher goes back to the cat cafe with the promise of a new companion. Arajin similarly returns to the place where he and Senya met, but he does get his old friend back.

Immediately what I know is real and true in my heart and hardly requires much thought is that Gas ABSOLUTELY is the element of Loyalty. I've seen that man trust and stick with Price through so much to solidify that in my mind. It's just real and true.

The rest are a bit tough to nail down though

I feel like Soap would be honesty, especially considering his reactions to the whole Shadow company betrayal. He values truthfulness, it's how he knows if he can trust people yknow?

Hear me out on thus one, because lord knows Ghost is hard to think of one for these to fit because he just kinda has these murky lines for where his morals lie (which I don't blame him for considering. EVERYTHING there is to consider about him.) BUT I feel like he would suit generosity, mainly post-las almas Era. Once he fully bonds with the 141 and stops being a hardass he has a lot to give. Throughout the alone mission he (metaphorically) gives as much as he can to Johnny to keep him alive and just. Idk. IT FITS IN MY HEART OKAY CAN YOU SEE THE VISION?? CAN YOU??

Price I think would be kindness, which you may be going "huh?!?!?" at. Which is fair. But also consider this role might be the hardest to actually accurately assign to any of these characters knowing like. What the entire setting is of COD LMFAO. He treats his team/family with kindness and patience, and that's what matters in this assignment.

god but interacting with people who are truly casual media enjoyers can genuinely be so alienating. like a couple days ago at work i mentioned that i discovered my favourite opera singer a few months ago and this guy was like 'you've only known of him for a few months and he's already your favourite' yes? what? was i supposed to listen to this guy for years and know every other singer out there before i could pull that card? like how do i say he stood out to me in one of the first operas i ever listened to in full and subsequently i became obsessed with his voice and now he's inextricably tied to the core of my enjoyment of opera so there simply will not be another guy ill like as much. and then it's like how do i explain that i have engaged with other media that changed the trajectory of my whole life within the span of a few hours. less, even. and it's been a valuable experience in one way or another every time. truly some of you people could do with a little obsession every once in a while i think

Sometimes I genuinely wonder 'am I really autistic?' love the fact that kabru can just be #real with his party. like he's probably also doing his usual trynna micro adjust his personality to suit talking to diff people kinda thing but they know him and he can be more open with them, let loose a lil. they know what he's like, especially rin who's known him since childhood. they know what his mind palace is like they know his overthinking tendencies. they're not afraid to call him out and make fun of him (affectionately) (maybe a bit /srs insults when its mickbell though. fair enough)
