Behold, the tragedy~! 

Also Little Time and Little Twilight are both so BABY and I wanna pick ‘em up and put ‘em in my pocket. Have you seen little Time try and block with the Hylian Shield? He goes full turtle shell he so tiny! Baby boy is nine but looks like he’s four or five. Must protecc. 

Anyways, Sarian and Medkah are about twenty here, which puts Liandra at twenty-nine. As such, Little Twilight is eight. She had him shortly before Aeris passed away from illness, and she and her husband Roza continued to raise Sarian and Medkah alongside little Twilight until they were murdered by Ganondorf’s vengeful followers. 

Epel is one of Epona’s babies, and Twilight’s Epona will be fathered by Epel. Epel runs off after Sarian is attacked and knocked off the horse, and ends up running into a hunting party from Ordon Village. Rusl decides to follow the frantic horse and arrives to find little Twilight curled up beside Sarian’s bloody body. Twilight is thus adopted by Rusl. 

Medkah was a captain just like his father was, while Sarian was basically his next-in-command. 

Also, it cracks me up that Time starts out so tiny he doesn’t even look his age,  but ends up a GIANT by the time he becomes the Hero’s Shade. Twilight is short, lol. Or, rather, average height.

[book review] northern lights by philip pullman (1995)

i first read this in college around when the ill-fated movie adaptation was coming out. i had seen the trailers and was thirsty for more fantasy type stuff, which it turns out was literally the entire cynical motivation for making the movie because they totally lotr-ed it up. the book is actually much more a response to narnia (which itself received the lotr-ification treatment in its film adaptations), but has a much different aesthetic/genre that the movie largely ignores, but we’re not here to talk about the movie rn i’m just setting the context of my first reading.

i was in the middle of reading it when the catholic church & others started calling for boycotts, and that was back during my misguided religious phase so at that point i was like “well, fuck.” but i was already in the middle of the book and i was really enjoying it so i kinda shrugged it off & decided that i enjoyed it but i didn't like that the church was the bad guys, and it was ok to enjoy something i disagreed with.

obviously now the anti-church stuff is a feature for me rather than a bug, so i was interested to see how i would feel about the book now with that in mind. and uh yeah, i do love that aspect of the book, very much so, yes. but it’s also so far in the background that a reader could be forgiven for it not being one of their biggest takeaways if they’re not paying close attention? like, by the end of the book it’s pretty fucking obvious that that was the entire point, but that turn happens in literally a line of dialogue at the end of the book (which i fucking love), but it’s not difficult to see in retrospect why even at my most brainwashed (not the fun/kinky kind, the boring religious kind) i was able to shrug it off and enjoy this as a silly little adventure yarn. which btw makes it pretty fucking hilarious that the church was so fragile about it, but whatevs!

but yeah, even though i don’t think it’s actually going to change anyone’s mind, that last interaction between lyra & pantalaimon that i alluded to earlier was everything to me this time. when pan says, “if they [the church] think dust is bad, it must be good!” and i forgot that that point was made that explicit in this book. it’s possible to miss its import if you’re just caught up in the breezy adventure the rest of the book has been, but it just absolutely turns the world upside down. i fucking love it.

also, another thing that hit me on a completely different level this time was this passage:

his hands, still clasping her head, tensed suddenly and drew her toward him in a passionate kiss. lyra thought it seemed more like cruelty than love, and looked at their dæmons, to see a strange sight: the snow leopard tense, crouching with her claws just pressing in the golden monkey’s flesh, and the monkey relaxed, blissful, swooning on the snow.

“strange sight”? idk man, sounds pretty normal to me.

other things i loved included serafina talking about feeling the starlight & moonlight on her skin. even though it wasn’t particularly foregrounded, all the witchy stuff was wonderful. i also loved iorek byrnison. as if having a magical little animal spirit that was part of yourself & you could talk to & cuddle wasn’t enough, lyra also gets a fucking armored bear king protecting her! what a lucky girl!!

and of course lyra herself was a wonderful protagonist. she’s just so fucking good. strong desire to protecc.

in the category of things i didn’t so much love was all the casual, careless racism. like, don’t get me wrong, this isn’t as bad of an offender as the aforementioned lewis or tolkien books, or a lot of its more direct influences like say the works of jules verne, but it still is rather frustrating all the same.

kinda par for the course for stuffy british adventure stories tbh, but again it’s not like outlandishly racist or anything, just… there’s an undercurrent throughout that i wouldn’t feel right not mentioning.

i also think it’s worth noting that while these books are marketed as y.a., they’re probably, uh, a bit heavy for the average kid? like, some genuinely traumatizing stuff happens!! but also idk kids are a lot more resilient than people give them credit for, i know this wouldn’t have phased me if i had read it when i was 12, just feels worth mentioning that it gets pretty dang dark.

so yeah, if you can shrug off the fairly commonplace racism of someone who seems like he’s trying his best but is too british not to be casually racist, this is a pretty great read. i find it very easy to get sucked in. lyra is such a great protagonist who you genuinely want to be safe, and the writing style hits that really nice sweet spot where it has a lot of inherent personality that leaps off the page, but it’s also still extremely approachable, which is just the perfect recipe to make something compulsively readable.

He comes up with the brilliant idea to try and cast a Water Deflection spell! It's something he learned a couple years ago because it seemed useful.

On one hand imagine walking around with Felix and you guys are just in this bubble of dryness so you can watch the rain and be in it without actually getting wet,,, the buildings you pass would have candles in the windows and stuff and they'd be reflecting on the puddles,,,,,,, magical,,,,,,,,,,,,

On the other hand imagine Felix steps into the rain all confident and then he immediately gets soaked because he somehow managed to reverse the effects of the spell, aka instead of repelling water he actually attracts it and then he just is huddling with you under a shelter and he looks like a drowned cat,,,,,,,, funni,,,,,,,,,,,,,

He shivers a lot. Complains of course because he's just bratty like that, but he is genuinely cold. Will definitely be clinging to you for warmth.

Just think it's funny if you have the study key with you so you could just teleport to his study whenever you want,,,, like he can open a portal,,,,,, but neither of you guys think about it in the moment.

You spend over an hour huddled together. Read a little from your books. Share stories about how this one time it was storming really hard and Baby!Felix went into the rain to get worms and then got a cold and how Scylla tried to 'treat' him by getting him to eat a literal mud pie and that's why he started eating dirt.

And then the rainstorm ends and he opens a portal to yeet you guys home because the books are heavy and he doesn't wanna carry them all,,,,, and,,,,,,,,,,, you guys kinda just Share A Look as you realize you've had access to fucking portals this entire time,,,,, dummies,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

You teach Annie the 'rain rain go away' song and you're both singing it as you dart around,,, end up in a little alcove chest-to-chest, giggling and singing while you guys catch your breath,,,,,, your singing kinda trailing off because Oh Anisa Looks So Cute with her hair flattened by the rain and her cheeks warm and a big smile on her face,,, and you throw your arms around her and smooch her because She Deserves It

When you guys finally do get back to the apartment, it's a change of clothes and some fresh tea for both of you!!

You guys are changed and in bed surrounded by a pillow + blanket fort while sipping warm tea,,, listening to the rain hitting the window and the thunder rolling in the distance,,, soft,,,

Okay like,, honestly,,,, Sage is gonna play in the rain. You can stay under the shelter if you want but He Is Going To Run Around And Have Fun. And there is a very good chance he grabs your arm and pulls you over as well.

Spinning you around,, if the ground is slippery and you start to fall he catches you,,,, has a hand on your lower back as he grins and says Hey It Looks Like You Fell For Him,,,, On the other hand if he's the one that falls and you try to help him he is still going to trip and he will pull you down with him, but he will make sure to twist so that he hits the ground and you fall on top of him

Like legit he just wants to hop around from puddle to puddle. Stomps his feet a little bit because it's fun. His tail smacks against the water too.

You can ask him why he feels the need to do this but he'll just look you in the eye, blink really slowly, and hop into another puddle.

Kitty cat likes showing off!

Ultimately I don't think you're gonna be able to get out of this while staying dry.

Once you guys do manage to get back to Fathom, you tell Sage to go towel off so he doesn't get a cold. And then he smirks and says that Oh, Do You want to towel him off? Wink.

Once he's dry he crawls on top of you and curls up for a little cat nap.

Rime Varela

Okay okay okay so

I feel like when he notices it's raining Rime has this split second moment of cursing the gods because Why Must They Conspire To Ruin His Hair Like This

I mean he will go out into the rain if he has to but he's also perfectly content to just stay in whatever store or cafe you guys are in and just,, wait for it to end.

Rime can teleport!! He's just gonna teleport home.

But if you want to stay in the rain then he will stay with you. It just isn't his first choice.

Or his second choice.

You guys watch raindrops racing on windows except Rime will just clear a path for his raindrop because he's a competitive little bastard and he thinks he's oh-so-very Funny.

You can stomp around in puddles if you want but if you get mud on him he's gonna be salty for the rest of the day.

Either he does the Water Repel spell (hehe that rhymes) or he just flat-out steals an umbrella. He's trying to stop you from getting drenched because if you get a cold, guess who's gonna be taking care of your dumb ass? He is. So quit trying to get sick >:(

But as much as he complains, he's also smiling to himself a little at how much fun you're having. He makes sure to hug you close and rub your arms when you're cold. If he has his cloak with him then he'll wrap you up in it (I don't think he can get cold so it's really not a big deal for him).

You guys get home and Rime makes you go change into something warm. While you're changing he's making some coffee and pulling out some snacks.

You guys are inside, wrapped in blankets, still racing raindrops but this time Rime can't cheat. And it's peaceful and soft and warm and nice.

He tilts his head like a lost pup. “They must be stupid. Or blind. Actually, probably both,” he decides confidently, nodding to himself. “No lazy person could go on adventures with me or make me those yummy homemade bentos!”

“Absolutely!” 

He pulls you into his chest and hugs you tight. When it comes to your next date night, he makes you feel like you’re the most beautiful person in the world, which probably plays into the fact he definitely thinks you are! He cuddles you and kisses you all over while watching a bunch of your favourite movies. 

He makes sure to reassure you in new ways a bunch how much he loves you! He tries to make you homemade sweets (which fail a bit, but it leads to you two baking together!) and will make those cool, unfolding boxes with a bunch of things written on the sides that he loves about you. Bo loves you to death for everything you are, and would scream it out to the world if he could!

he’s keen, he knows what others say

when he catches you eating smaller portions or hiding yourself in crowds, he understands exactly why

he likely won’t confront you directly unless it turns into something major

instead, he’ll start leaving little notes or little gifts around to make you feel better about yourself

start taking initiative in some things he would usually feel too shy for

will cuddle you outta nowhere, kisses you on your shoulders and hands and forehead and neck

while he’s reading or doing something independent, he’ll go out of his way to be near you or in the same room while he does it

holds your hands outta nowhere too, rubs your hand with his thumb

if he can, he’ll braid and play with your hair

starts speaking his mind more on how you look and all that

when you ask him about the whispers and how other people think, he’ll kiss you on the forehead and reassure you like a got damb speecher, articulate as fuhck

“Darling, you’re very healthy and do so much good for your body. It doesn’t matter how you look. Even if you do look absolutely stunning.” He pulls you into a hug and hums, content.

“Thanks baby… You really think so?”

“Of course. People who say that are probably skinny through pure luck despite how much junk food they shove in their face and how much time they spend on their asses watching reality TV shows for genuine entertainment.”

You can’t help but chuckle. 

“There’s that smile I love to see.”

He holds you close when you two go out, and if you feel sad again or poorly about yourself, he makes sure to remind you of how much you’ve grown and achieved, telling you how proud he is of you and how much he loves you for who you are and how you look. He always makes sure to avoid any words or topics he knows will make you doubt yourself, relishing in the smiles you give him.

I’m sorry about your dad and complicated nature of mourning someone who’s relationship to you was... tense to say the least. Hopefully you have some sort of closure or acceptance since then. Also don’t diminish the trauma you had by just calling it daddy issues. You feelings matter But unfortunately society reduces them to ‘daddy issues’.

To be honest I has hesitant to add the complicated parental death in because grief is so intricate and weird and people don’t always mourn like you would think. I’m also glad that what my fictional therapist said helps you in some way even if it was simple. Sometimes that’s all therapists do is say things in simpler terms that resonate with you. I’m thinking of delving more into the grief side of Donna, but not too deep because I have limited experience with loss and I doubt I will do the character justice from that perspective. But I’ll certainly be addressing her mental illness side and hopefully lay the ground work fo her to get better in some way. I highly doubt that the village has mental health services up to date with modern standards (unless it’s modern in terms of the 1800s). So there will be discussion on that.

Overall, I’m doing good! I’ll be traveling soon so an update will likely finished in about a week, life be gentle. My summer will be busy with my on lab and research project but I doubt it’ll truly hinder my fic.

so you’ve been roleplaying for years... things change, the way the community does things shift, and sometimes there’s new skills you need to pick up and adjust to in order to make your time rping as creatively rich and fulfilling as it can be. one of those things that’s become extremely important is plotting & hcing. either in groups, in indie, or doing 1x1s, these two are the foundation to your interaction (unless you’re the type to wing it). sometimes when i interact with people, it seems they don’t really click with this process, so in the guide below, i’ll help to explain why these are so important, and how to do it in a way that not only gives you a rich plot, but helps inspire and keep your writing partner engaged with you.

disclaimer --- this is just my personal experience and opinions being shared. i am not the end-all-be-all on how to interact with writing partners. this is just here to get people to begin thinking about things they otherwise wouldn’t have thought about.

WHY IS PLOTTING & HCING SO IMPORTANT?

firstly, rp has changed a lot since the days of launching into an rp or writing a random starter for a new follower. things are a lot more established and regardless of if you’re in a bio/skeleton rp with pre-written connections, or you’re in a new plotless group or indie and you’re coming up with them on your own, it’s a major foundation to your writing experience, so don’t treat it lightly!

secondly, regardless of format, and with the shifts in rp culture, behind the scenes plotting & hcing is crucial to the development of your plot & characters. as writers, we take more time with our replies so development on dash happens a lot slower. personally i don’t mind that, but i don’t want that to hinder my writing experience so i like taking things behind the scenes to help build up dynamics and situations so the whole relationship isn’t based off one or two threads/instances.

lastly, it helps to keep things inspiring. sound dumb? you bet, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles baby. so many times i have plotted ships, sibling relationships, best friends, or other core relationships, and wanted to sink my teeth in relationship lore and background and dynamics, only to be returned with “hahah yes! i love that!” now i understand this is never ill-intentioned, but it does suck the muse right out the situation. if you do not validate & expand on your partner’s ideas, it’s not going to make that writer’s ideas feel appreciated or loved. the way to tell them you love their ideas? sink your teeth right back and send an equally meaty response right back!

PART ONE: SO YOU WANT TO PLOT

you don’t need this post to tell you how to come up with plot ideas, that’s a whole different guide, but let’s say you’re in the brainstorming process. you’re throwing ideas back and forth based on your muse’s two backgrounds and seeing what sticks. what is SUCH a downer, is when a writing partner is just ... not contributing. yes, we are all guilty of the line “i’m open to anything!” but try and limit yourself to using that line once in a conversation. hell, i prefer it when a person doesn’t even say it at all and they’re HONEST. if i come in guns-a-blazing and i ask ‘what plots do you need filled?’ if a person responds with ‘i need someone who hurt my muse’ there’s two option, i fill that plot, or i don’t. it’s that simple. don’t be afraid to say what you want, the worst that can happen is the person says ‘eh, i don’t really think that fits my character’ and you come up with something else! but when you’re already passionate about the idea, you’re setting yourself up for such great success!

so what do you do when your one (1) braincell isn’t working and you can’t come up with any connection ideas? two options, you can either go to one of the dozens of guides for basic connection ideas and give your partner something, or you can look at the other person’s bio, and your muse, and try and find connections between them. both of these are painfully easy! i’m a personal fan of the latter as it seems a bit more grounded and juicy than the former, but those can be twisted into something great too! **if you’re in a group setting, even asking what that person’s other connections are, and piggybacking off of that. these create super spicy connections. example: you find out muse a is muse b’s ex, and your muse, muse c, is best friends w muse b, so it’s safe to assume your muse c will probably not get along with muse a.

this important thing is not to make your partner feel like they’re doing all the work. because that’s never fun, and truthfully, it doesn’t make that person want to write with you if you’re not also putting in the elbow grease. plotting is fun, not a chore! make it a party!

PART TWO: NOW YOU HAVE TO BACK IT UP

you’ve got your plot now, congrats! and you’re so excited. but now you need that plot to be fleshed out a bit. there’s some history there so you’ve got to establish it. in comes the powerhouse--- my favorite part to this whole thing: HCING. it’s the most laid back, and in my opinion, creative part of the rping process. truthfully, i enjoy it more than threads because of the absolute insanity you can dig up. but i only love it if my partner can hand it back just as i can serve it.

maybe you’ve never quite thought that this part was that important, but i can assure you, if a person is giving you 3+ sentences about the dynamic of your characters, they’re trying to hc with you, and if you don’t enrich them, your dynamic is going to wither away.

i brought up an idea in the first part of this guide that’s extremely important to how you hc with your writing partner: VALIDATE & EXPAND. it’s the idea that no matter how much or how little your rp partner gives you in terms of an hc, you respond to it with a validation, which can range anywhere from ‘i LOVE that’ to as simple as a key smash and the pleading emotion, or even repeating a fraction of what they said to show you understand their vision. but then you have to back that up with expanding on that idea. hcs could be about a situation or about your writing partner’s character, so expand on how your character feels and reacts to things. it’s beyond discouraging when i write a whole idea out, explaining how my character feels in this emotionally intense setting, and my writing partner only gives me the validation portion, and now i have no idea how my opp’s character thinks, feels, or interacts.

see, a point i mentioned above is the fact that threads don’t work like they used to. and that’s fine! but hcing is an easy and fun way to make up for the fact that we take time with our threads now. if you’re rping to find rich, in-depth, satisfying dynamics, it’s going to take many many months to get your understanding of your opp’s muse, and the relationship they have, hcing fast tracks that process. i’m writing with you, i love your muse, give me the dirty details, i promise it’s not obnoxious. the more your give back, the more you will receive. so why wait around, sitting on our thumbs for me to fully get a grasp of your character’s voice, and your character’s thoughts, when we could do that on chat and have a grand time.

but now you’re thinking to yourself: okay, but how exactly do i validate and expand? and for that, we go to EXAMPLE-BOT 3000 !! not a real bot, unfortunately, but example bot has dug up a personal interaction i’ve had hcing. for context, this is a 1x1 writing partner i’ve had for years. we have an excellent dynamic and they are perfect. they have also given me permission to use our convos as example.

here is my message [ CONTEXT: this is a sandbox-star-wars-esque verse]

Okay but I had a thot in the shower,,, where the best thoughts are had. And what if,,, after this meeting and they part ways and such and it was just another weird occurrence in their lives, blastis gets a mission and it’s either to protecc salia or like guide salia across the galaxy to do something smth and save some lives or whatever. And ofc not because she couldn’t take care of herself but he has smth she doesn’t that gives an edge or just a close loved one of her’s didn’t want to see her get hurt. So you have these two traveling across the galaxy,,, sometimes arguing bc she can manage herself but he’s just fulfilling the mission. And them both kicking but. And all the steamy tension and cliches.

let’s break this message down before we get into the response. first, hcs don’t have to be formal. they are the most fun when they’re less together and don’t rely so much on “sounding good”. you’re just rolling off the top of your brain, chatting like you would with a friend, don’t worry too much on formalities because this isn’t the place for that.

i am also presenting my idea in a way that is confident, and with plenty of ideas to work on. i am involving my partner’s character but not godmodding. i am taking things i have learned from character introductions (like salia being independent and empowered, and wanting to do good/help others) and not disrespecting them, but having her take part in the plot. there are also small bits at the end of this idea that are little nuggets to build off of.

let’s look at my partner’s response.

AAAAH okay i love the idea!!! however shes a v. freelance kinda healer and doesnt really take official things. and she doesnt have loved ones that would know if there was danger - she can telepathically communicate with her own people but if she doesnt want them to know things they cant just. force their way in its a Closed Communication line not an open invitation into her thoughts asdfghjsh. But i could imagine that some guy or family hire her to find their children maybe who were lost on their adventure/mission with friends and the last message sounded like one was hurt,,, badly. and the other cant help for some reason. and they hire blastis to both protect her and later the people shes supposed to heal??

but anYWAY the Important part is ofc. the tension. and his big ass in her ship bc why would she?? take another if hers is right there. so hes gonna take that single bed and not complain. but ooof those two?? just kicking ass and being amazing. growing on each other more and more.

right off the bat is validation. and validation doesn’t have to be as direct as it is in this message. the validation is important here specifically, my partner showed they were interested and supportive of the idea i presented, but needed the plot to fit in their character’s story better. we see them making adjustments--- this is a collaborative experience so i alone shouldn’t be the one coming up with the plot, nor would i want my idea taken just as is. instead they mold it to fit what makes sense, getting more specific than my idea with a “mission purpose”. this is where the bouncing off of each other begins.

they then take the “bait” and start building on the tension our muses will experience (this is a ship afterall). while this is the beginning of our conversation, and there’s aren’t specific moments we’re working off of, this is setting the ground for future headcanons (see: the focus on sexual tension, living in a ship together, kicking butt), we are both mutually giving each other little tethers to take hold of. this is a very good start to begin working out the dynamic and situations these two characters are found in, with multiple different launch-off points.

CONCLUSION

there’s no right or wrong way to rp. even the tips listed here might not be applicable to your style, just having the idea in the back of your mind helps. the important thing is you and the person you’re writing with are having fun. you both are respecting each other’s time and ideas and creating a beautiful dynamic or world or relationship. this is a collaborative experience, and it’s important not to leave your partner feeling like they’re doing all the heavy lifting creatively.

☼ ok so ive drawn jay roy and tim with jay’s jacket on him for the farm au and i dont think i gave context so : for reminders, jason goes to college at the end of the summer tim gets adopted, but they get really close. tim is 14, jason is 18, and roy is 20 but very close to jason as well and after an argument with ollie abt addictions flees to jason’s appartment in the city, like, in october ? november ? of that same year. they’re basically roommates and also pinning after one another, and tim takes the bus to come see jason on week ends sometimes, like, after christmas that year (because he realises even if he has warmed up to the rest of the family, hes just much more comfortable w jason and sometimes he just needs to see him sobs....) so like tim is there every other week ends and when he’s on vacations too and jason’s friends (roy, kory, artemis & bizarro whos human name is bill ive decided) have all basically adopted him,,, one time all of core four comes up to the city and both groups hang out together for the whole week end,,,, shenanignas,,,, 

anyway that specific piece of jay n roy with tim is one time when tim is 15/16 and went to the city alone and he arrived late at night and jay and roy are supposed to come fetch him but they’re Late for Reasons and someone corner tim in a corner for his wallet or his phone or smth worse and tim gets hit when he panics and doesnt do anything just before jay n roy arrive n Rescue him,,, roy sees the situation and just bodyslam the guy into he wall and jason drags tim (and then roy) away..... they protecc

“Hey!” Alistair complained. “What if I was naked in here? Or practicing an Antivan jig for the next time we’re bored on the road? You’d have ruined the surprise.”

Inala unrepentantly crawled into his tent. “Practicing an Antivan jig while sitting on your ass? That’s a special skill.”

Alistair nodded sagely. “It really is, and I’m really good at it. Want to see?” He started wiggling his shoulders and snapping his fingers.

Inala snorted. “Amazing. Fascinating. Really, I’m honoured to have witnessed it. Can I ask you something?”

He stopped his so-called dancing and sighed. “Since you burst into my tent like this and interrupted my dance routine, I guess you might as well.”

She settled herself cross-legged on his bedroll. “Have you ever, uh…” She trailed off awkwardly. She’d only ever talked about this with the other girls in her clan, and with Ashalle when she’d hit puberty. It was weird talking about it with a man, even if the man was just Alistair. 

He raised his eyebrows. “Have I ever what? Had a good pair of shoes?”

She tutted. “No. You know.” She gave him a pointed look. 

Alistair smiled. “I don’t, actually! Have I ever seen a basilisk? Ate jellied ham? Have I ever licked a lamppost in winter?” He wiggled his eyebrows salaciously. 

Inala rolled her eyes. He knew exactly what she was talking about. “Look, I don’t know what jellied ham is, but it sounds disgusting. I’m talking about, you know.” She waved her hand vaguely. “Sex.”

“Oh, is that what we’re talking about?” he exclaimed. “I could have sworn this conversation was about the jellied ham.”

Inala whined and poked his arm. “Come on, just tell me. Have you ever, uh, done it before?”

“All right, all right, twist my arm,” he drawled. “I haven’t ever eaten jellied ham, no. Why, have you?”

Inala gasped mockingly. “What a question to ask a proper lady.”

Alistair snorted. “That’s a no, then. Besides, you’re not a proper lady. You’re a Dalish wildwoman.”

“And you’re a smelly human brute,” she retorted.

He sighed happily. “Isn’t it so nice to recognize each other for who we really are?”

Inala snickered, then sighed and picked idly at the fabric of his bedroll. Alistair tilted his head. “Why are you asking about this? You’re not, uh, offering, are you?”

She scoffed and elbowed him. “No, you dummy. Not to you, at least.”

His eyes went wide. “So you’re going to offer to someone! Who? Let me guess, let me guess: Sten. It’s Sten, isn’t it?”

Inala looked up with a grin. “How much would you dare me to offer my virginity to Sten?”

“I would dare you…” He eagerly dug around in his pouch of coin, but his smile faded into disappointment. He gave her a hangdog look. “How about three coppers and the first viewing of my Antivan jig routine once it’s complete?”

She wrinkled her nose. “Not good enough.”

He clicked his tongue. “Shame. Seriously though, are you thinking about, uh, eating jellied ham with someone?”

She shrugged. “Maybe.” She scratched idly at his bedroll for a moment more, then smiled at him. “You know who’s eaten a lot of jellied ham? Zevran.”

Alistair scoffed. “That’s hardly a secret. Jellied ham during assassinations, jellied ham when he had the flu, two types of jellied ham at once…” His eyes widened. “Wait. You’re… you’re thinking of sleeping with Zevran?”

She shrugged and looked down at her fingers, which were still scratching at the bedroll. “I don’t know. Maybe.” In truth, Inala wasn’t sure she did want to sleep with Zevran. That wasn’t to say she wasn’t interested in him; she found him fascinating, actually. He was the first non-Dalish elf she’d ever spent a significant amount of time with. Every time she talked to him, she got this strange sense of vertigo about just how different their lives had been. Marethari had always told her that the city elves had very different lives from the Dalish, but she’d never really appreciated just how different their lives were until she’d met Zevran. 

She’d also never really been attracted to anyone before she’d met Zevran. It was hard to feel attracted to anyone in her clan when she saw them all as her family. 

Or she used to, at least, before they’d forced her to become a Grey Warden. 

She pushed aside the bitterness and turned her thoughts back to Zevran. But thinking of Zevran was difficult as well, in a very different way. She liked Zevran; she thought he was handsome and charming and funny, and the way he flirted with her… Creators, no one had ever flirted with her like that before. No one had ever looked at her the way Zevran did, like she was more than just one of the boys. Like she was something… desirable. 

But the way he talked about… about sex, and about being raised in a whorehouse? She didn’t have the whole story, but the hints he’d given her were enough to chill her blood. He told amusing stories about the people he’d slept with, but if those stories had happened during jobs he’d done for the Antivan Crows, had he actually enjoyed the sex? How could he be enjoying it when it had been drilled into him as something he had to be good at rather than something to enjoy? 

But then again, who was Inala to question Zevran’s sexual motives when the only experience she had was an awkward experimental kiss here and there? 

She nibbled the inside of her cheek and shot Alistair a sideways glance. “Do you think Zevran would care that I’ve never eaten jellied ham before?” she asked.

“Are you sure you want to offer him your jellied ham?” Alistair said.

His tone was uncharacteristically serious. Inala softened at the concern in his face. “You still think he might try to assassinate us? After everything he said about those awful Crows?”

“We can’t say for sure that he won’t,” Alistair said. “I mean, I don’t think he’ll succeed, not with Sten and Shale watching, but that doesn’t mean he won’t try. And what if he tries while you’re, you know. Halfway through the jellied ham?”

Inala gave him a cheeky smile. “Well, that’s the real reason I came to you. Will you stand guard outside my tent while I eat jellied ham with Zevran?”

“Maker, no,” Alistair said loudly. “Get the mabari to do that.”

“I wouldn’t make Keebs do that!” she protested.

Alistair raised his eyebrows. “So you wouldn’t force Keebs to listen to you eating jellied ham, but you’d ask me to do it? Are you saying you value the mabari over me?”

Inala hesitated, and Alistair grunted and clutched his chest. “Ouch. You wound me. No really, I’m hurt. I’m… I’m devastated, actually. I might just take a vow of silence right now in protest.”

Inala widened her eyes. “Creators, really? Do you promise? I could use the peace and quiet.”

Alistair laughed, and Inala couldn’t help but join in. When they’d both caught their breath, Alistair elbowed her gently. “I don’t think Zevran will care that you’ve never eaten jellied ham before, for what it’s worth.”

She gave him a little half-smile, and they were quiet for a moment. Then Inala tilted her head. “Do you think Morrigan is a virgin?”

Alistair wrinkled his nose. “I think Morrigan is a praying mantis. She probably pops the heads off of her partners after sex and eats them.”

Inala barked out a laugh. “You’re so stupid.”

“It takes one to know one, my friend,” he retorted.

She tsked and punched him in the arm, and he flicked her ear. She punched him once more, then unfolded her legs and crawled over to the flap of his tent. “Goodnight, Alistair,” she drawled.

“Goodnight, Inala,” he said just as mockingly. 

She shot him a swift grin, then left his tent. Everyone else seemed to be in their tents already – everyone except Zevran, in fact. 

He was sitting by the fire and humming to himself as he sharpened one of his knives. He glanced up as she emerged from Alistair’s tent, and her heart did a little flip-flop as he met her gaze. Zevran had this way of smiling at her, like the curl of his lips and the heat in his eyes was only meant for her, and it just made her feel more confused. 

Confused about whether she wanted to offer her jellied ham to him, or whether she really just wanted to hug him and keep him away from anyone who would value him only for his ill-begotten ‘skills’. 

Her heart twisted again, but in a painful way this time, and she dropped his heated gaze. “Goodnight, Zevran,” she said. “Sweet dreams.” 

“Pray that I dream of you, then,” he said. He tilted his head and sighed. “Ah, what a sweet dream that would be.” 

A stupid grin burst across her face, and she rubbed her nose. Fenedhis, she could feel her face going hot. “I’ll… I’ll do that,” she said lamely, then immediately wanted to smack herself for the inane response.

He chuckled, and the smooth and rolling sound chased her toward her tent. Once she was in the safety of her tent, she breathed a sigh of relief, then pulled off her boots and slid into her bedroll. 

She closed her eyes, but thoughts of Zevran played through her mind. His devilish little smile and that devilish quirk of his eyebrows. The lovely rolling cadence of his accent and the lovely veins in his elegant hands. What he must have looked like as a bony underfed seven-year-old slave.  

Her gut twisted at the thought. She sighed and closed her eyes, then segued into the before-bed meditation that Ashalle had taught her when she was a moody and restless adolescent. A few minutes later, just as she was falling asleep, she had one last thought of Zevran. 

It was a memory from when they’d first met, when he was tied up on the ground after failing to kill her and Alistair. He’d been charming even then, gazing boldly up at her with that warm and mischievous grin, and there was blood dripping down his chin thanks to a punch he’d taken from Sten.  

As Inala finally fell asleep, that’s what she was thinking about: Zevran’s broad and bloodstained smile.

5 THINGS YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER.

1. Indomitable - She pretty much does what she wants, how she wants, whenever she wants. If she wants something? She manipulates her way into getting it. She doesn’t stop until she has it and hardly anything will sway her otherwise. She’s extremely hard to control when determined and set on a task in mind. She’s hard to control period. She’s got a streak of wild, impulsive, and loves to toy with others be it malicious or just to tease.  Her will is near impossible to break and she never believes that she can’t do something even if it is the impossible. Atop of that she’s fairly hard to defeat physically, she’ll bring more than a challenge if ever attack or if a loved one is ever hurt. I’m not saying that she can’t be brought down because she can, but it’s going to take more than a couple of hits.

2. Emotional Depth-  There’s not just one tier to Isrieal, there’s a million and it’s a labyrinth. She comes off as cold, arrogant, prideful but that’s the main wall that she hides behind. She’s strong and will exude complete confidence most of the time while being sly, cunning, coy, and whatever else she can throw at you. These are the emotions she shows to the world but the rest she’s buried so deep inside that she forgets they even exist. Inside she’s broken, sad, lonely, tormented but she has her ways of hiding them and biting back the pain that feeling these emotions brings. It’s from the conditions she’s been stuck in for her whole life at Hojo’s mercy and the lies she’s had to tell herself to make it easier to handle. Of course, this naturally makes her volatile with bursts of anger or other strong emotions and if she let’s one slip out they all come spilling out sooner or later. She does have a tendency to use special sedative injections to subdue these emotions whenever she feels any starting to well up. Deep under it all, however, she loves with all of her heart once she is sure that she will not be hurt. She’s always afraid of that in a way, but there is no in between. You have her all or you have her nothing. But once there she is quite passionate and protective and more soft and innocent then she’d originally lead you to think. 

3. Manipulative - Life is a game and she plays to win. At least that’s how one survives in ShinRa. She learned from one of the best manipulators out there and now she’s known to even manipulate the Professor himself. She rose herself from experiment to assistant Director by playing him and she plays everyone around as she sees necessary in order to get what she needs. She often shows what she wants to show and nothing more, near every move and every article of clothing is precisely calculated towards whomever she is meeting with. Of course, only if you don’t know her well. 

4. Deals with the Devil- Oh yes, she loves to make deals but don’t worry they’re mostly fair and she is one to keep to her word and her promises. Despite her demeanor she is quite loyal when she promises something. If you work out a trade or a bargain she’ll do her best to uphold her end of it, getting you what you want in return. There is a lot that can be traded between science and other departments after all and she’s not afraid to go behind the Professor’s back here and there if it means obtaining something she’s personally after in the end. 

5. A.I Alien - Lastly, yes I love the fact she is a hybrid and loves to play with quantum theory and A.I in the future. I always love the sci-fi aesthetics and concepts and the idea of something beautiful having a monster inside. She’s at conflict with this part of herself, often not knowing how to fully accept it but at least she is in control of the cells and not the other way around. She’s also always been focused on uploading consciousness and prolonging and bringing others back to life since she doesn’t age. It’s from there that she gets pulled into quantum theories and eventually breaks through to a system A.I that she makes a deal with to her own advantage, but this is a plot I haven’t touched in a while. Really I love everything about her but these are some fun and dominating concepts.

1. @animus-inspire Where do I start? Seriously. This was unexpected but yet one of the best things that has ever happened in my writing history. I love love love this ship and all the AU’s of it so much! And beyond that, it’s so rare to get me to talk a lot but I can’t seem to ever shut up around you xD. But, I LOVE talking to you and the connection we have and the fact that we have so many stinking ideas all the damn time and they all get played off each other so easily and that we can share the same obsessions and YES WHAT HAVE YOU DONE! But you are also one of the sweetest and most full of life people I know on here and I absolutely love writing with you, you’ve made it so great :3. And you are seriously best Reeve and have made me love all the Reeve. <3

2. @thefirstthaumaturge I’ve known you for about like, well.....well over 10 years xD And I love you more as the years go on. We’ve survived drama days together and now we can laugh about all the stupid RP stuff we did in the past. I also enjoy all of our new RPs and how great its been to see both our OCs grow and thrive in these communities. I also super love talking to you and playing video games with you and watching WestWorld and movies with you. Basically, you make everything super fun and I don’t know what I’d do without you around. I also love how we always manage to say/type the same things at the same time all the damn time xD Digital sisters but its as real as it gets. 

3. @shinraweirdscience @xbroken-science @insidious-scientist  I love all of my Hojo’s that deal with Izzy’s crazy ass and put up with me so thank you guys! I’m always down for crazy plots and all the trauma that comes with them so don’t ever feel bad about throwing anything at me or damaging Izzy. It’s what makes her her after all. And I find it all a lot of fun. I’m always ears for ideas so let me know!

4. @sadistic-second I don’t write a whole lot with you here but you’re always good company in the voice chats and you make playing games a lot of fun as well. I like our little group we have going on to do all the stuffs. I love all the gifs and icons you make, and the paracord is very creative as well. It’s always cool to see what you can do. Of course I like all the funny things too.   @apathetic-ruler  I have to say you’re writing is amazing, I love it! I haven’t wrote with your Ru but I love past life Ru xD One of these day’s I’ll figure out what to do with a Rufus I’m sure. 

5. @ivory-paragon We don’t write much but I love playing FFXIV with you and being in all your groups. It’s a very fun and enjoyable atmosphere and you make me laugh all the time. If I hadn’t found you I wouldn’t have found any of this awesome community and my great shippy ships that have come out of it. @rikelusshinra I love all of our RP’s and stuff too. You have a super amazing OC that seems to fit right in and I’ve loved writing with Rike. Even if you are busy now. It’s rare Izzy finds ships that work but you are one of those lucky ones that she fits well with and I love all the ideas we play with as well. So to my FFU peeps! Even if we don’t write on tumblr much I still love you both.

So okay, I’ve thought about this all day and I’ll do a few categories. Since I revolve around music so heavily and no lie have hundreds of my own music videos in my head for every song I’ve ever heard, yes I’m one of THOSE people. xD

So I’ll start with what I’ve been listening to lately that really fits in with WestWorld Izzy and Logan!Reeve ShinuestiLos xD I can’t seem to get Poker Face out of my head for her and a couple other Lady Gaga songs that fit in  Like this one too. 

Also I really love these songs but they are so random. This one mostly thanks to ARI, but I can never not listen to it when it comes on. Also Mortal Kombat. This song makes me so fired up every time I hear any variation of it xD. Even now! alkdjfsldjfsdljf, but I do really like this mix. 

Then we can’t forget those emo day songs. Mr. Brightside is one I can never resist singing. It’s just so damn good! Then there is Holiday by Greenday and can’t forget Miss Murder by AFI xD 

Now I have an extremely long list of electronic type, synth, darkwave, trance, whatever the heck categories they fall under that I just like to call my Robot music xD  Here’s a couple with AI themes that I’ll just throw out here. We Appreciate Power and quite literally A.I 

And lastly this one reminds me of Midgar so much and Izzy, but I always see her singing this if she ever made a music video. (which apparently she’s made many) But she’d definitely be in front of wall sized windows with Midgar in the background and the labs, and its also why she sometimes refers to it as Electric City, idk who the guy would be singing with her but if you want it to be you just let me know? Lol.  After all she is Indistinct. Ill Defined. Uncontrolled. Unconfined.
