The "soul patch" is a bit of both; it is amplified a lot by lighting, but you can see it's noticeably darker/less patchy than the rest of his facial hair in his texture even when lighting isn't a factor and it's like that for his younger model too. I rarely notice when Tsutsumi actually has one though because it blends in with the shadow lol (sorry for the disgustingly high res texture btw I don't know why they did that and Tumblr blows it up to max size anyway </3)

ok so the new forest is actually one of the revamps im least angry about, I really like how different it is compared to all the other forest revamps

pros-

I enjoy how they kept a darkish mythical vibe, and they increased the amount of vines in the ground, I like the increased amounts ruin stones, and animals. DEF THE ANIMALS!! They kept that red bird which Im happy about, wish they kept its goofy eyes though. I like the glowing lilies and that they expanded the river, it has awesome picture spots.

ok, there are some spots where I feel it is kinda bare??? Like maybe they might out something there in the future but I kinda see it as “bald spots” in the forest. Inside the forest the entrance, I like the vast amount of trees but I really see no charm after a while, there isnt any hidden details whatsoever that I have seen yet other than the animals and the birds. The druids are cool, but I wish they kept the og outfit, I think it would look more “cult like”?? The villiage 💀 Im sorry but did the devs get lazy?? Like they didnt even put a new stable model, and the bridge is the same! I thought this was a revamp, I hope they remake the bridge but with new textures, I feel like they put lamp lights in places that they shouldnt be?? I dunno this is how I feel. Im sad they removed like 4-5 houses? To replace it with a garden that doesnt feel soo gardeny, its giving more overgrown “garden” not taken care of type vibe. It just feels out of place. Theres alot of trees in places which is good, but they put too much in places not necessary, and no trees in place that need trees. In the end, I do like the revamp but the cons are just things I feel is constructive criticism

Summary: Being headstrong and different in a superficial world is challenging even more so when she’s dating someone from the said world. 

“Should we do our annual celebration at your place tonight?” Johnny mumbled as he watched her concentrate on getting his misaligned hair back to its spot.

“Mhm” Hannah grunted as she stuck her rat-tail comb in between her lips as her brows furrowed. Johnny needed to stand still so that she would be able to finish her job but at the way he is standing, one push and he could very well tumble and ruin his clothes.

“Maybe I should gift you a stool next time” He groaned as he  stood up and massaged his inner thighs for being in an awkward position for too long.

“Stop being a baby. I thought you workout for hours on end for a healthy body. All of us were actually thinking of suggesting you to move into the gym” Hannah teased as she shoved him to his place for the continuation of the shoot. He merely shook his head and continued to take his place and pose as directed.

Hannah wasn’t his designated stylist but she had to take over since his actual stylist had to give birth. Being a creative director who was trusted for her ideas does not give her the credentials to do hair but they were desperate. They were lucky that the muse of this shoot was her long-time friend who was kind enough to go with it and gave his input on how his hair should be. The dynamic works and thus the shoot went uninterrupted.

As she directed the interns on how the set should be, Johnny started to wonder how did she get so good at what she does. They have been friends since they were 15 years old but he never saw her creative brain been put into use at such a scale. It was intriguing to see this side of her as she took it upon herself to call the shots.

With his eagle eyes, he watched her every move and strangely enough, he could detect when her creativity was in motion as her eyes light up when she thought of something and a hint of smile came to her face when her imaginations come to life.

Being an idol for almost 10 years now, he knew how brutal it was here. He never wanted her to be part of this world, his world. She was never safe from the eyes of others. How they would talk about her appearance and what they would want her to do or what they would want to do to her. Time and time again, he would have to get his emotions in check whenever he hears them but it never really affected her. Well… at least he didn’t think it does.

“Stop hogging all of the ice-cream. Seriously. You’re supposed to be on a diet, your manager told me” She complained as she repeatedly smacked his hand that was clenching to the pint of ice-cream.

“What about you huh? I thought you wanted to go on a diet” He argued, mouthful of vanilla ice cream as he used his long limbs to get her as far away from the ice-cream as he could.

“Stop using your height and strength on me. Give it to me” She reached out as his feet was pressing on her tummy and his arms were out stretched away from her reach. He couldn’t help but to laugh and the sight of her short arms trying to overcome the challenge.

“Stop being so short then” He giggled as he continued to taunt her.

“Not fair, you know how short my parents are, I have no choice” She huffed. While they squabbled, his phone dinged. With his feet still at its position, he picked it up and looked at the message.

“Hey, I didn’t want to alarm you but, you have to see this” The message read. He clicked on the link and scrolled through the tabloid towards the comment section. Slowly he let his guard down and she snatched his ice-cream away with a triumphant cry.

He wasn’t concentrating on his best friend stuffing her face but rather what was sent to him.

“What are you reading?” She looked over at her too quiet of a friend. She leaned over and peered. He felt her presence and quickly turned his phone away and quickly locked it.

“Its nothing, don’t worry about it” He cleared his throat and held his phone close to him.

“Are you looking at naked girls again?” She poked his arm.

“Mhm” He curtly replied earning a slap on his arm.

Throughout the movie night, he was trying to calm himself as the comments he saw kept replaying in his mind. He was boiling mad but he didn’t want to ruin their night. He was busy trying to concentrate and appear normal that he didn’t notice Hannah doing what he did earlier.

She slowly placed the ice-cream down as she swallowed her cries in. No matter how many times she has heard those words from the people she has worked with, she was never prepared for the public to say the same in writing. Not when it involves him. Her hands started to shake as she locked her phone trying not to stay stoic. She gripped tightly to her phone as she pulled her hood up and closed her eyes. She focused on her breathing to appear as normal as possible but somehow it was failing her.

“Hey, I’m kinda hungry, wanna get some chicken? I mean, it’s never complete without it right?” He broke the silence. He looked over her and saw her hood up. She was curled up on the couch, appearing smaller than she was.

“Hannah?” He touched her shoulders and immediately felt her shaking. He grabbed her, trying to get her to turn towards but he was met with resistance.

“No. I don’t wanna eat anything” her voice cracked and appeared so timid.

“Shit” Johnny cursed in his head.

“Hannah, sweetheart. Look at me” he cooed as he tried to get her to face him. She shook her head as she didn't trust her voice.

Johnny pushed the coffee table to give him space for him to sit in front of her.

“Come on, love. I thought you were never affected by those things” He slowly pulled her hoodie back. He was met with glassy round eyes looking back at him. Her lips were trembling to fight off her whimpers. The sight pierced his heart as he continued to wipe her tears.

“You’re perfect. They don’t know what they’re talking about” He tugged her messy hair behind her ears. She looked away as she wiped her tears with her sleeves.

“They are right. How could anyone believe that we’re an item. Look at me” she whispered. She bit her lower lip as she felt a wash of emotions coming at her like a tsunami. Her tears were flowing till no end.

“I am looking at you babe. I’ve been looking at you the same way as i did when I was 20” He tried to calm her as he took her hand.

“NO JOHN! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT US!” she screamed as she yanked her hands away from him.

All he could do was stare at her outburst. Seeing how this was her pent up emotions finally succumbing to what others thought of her.

“I am fat. I am short. I am ugly. I don’t have legs that went on for miles. I don’t have paper white skin that glowed to the Gods. I don’t have a body that is envied by the masses. I don’t deserve you John” He winced as she listed down all the things they’ve said. He felt apologetic that he couldn’t protect her from the unruly world of the internet. He felt sorry that the world is so superficial. That the place they’re involved in cares too much about how you look.  

“Why did we ever think this was a good idea? Why did i ever thought i could have you without repercussions?” She shook her head as she stared at her trembling fingers. She sniffled as Johnny ran his fingers through his hair.

“Should we just say we’re just friends and move on? Shouldn’t your company set you up with some actress or a model or... or an idol?” She rambled on the possibilities of helping his image.

Johnny head snapped back at her as he looked at her in confusion.

“Break up? That’s your answer to this?” He was bewildered. Livid even, to know that the love of his life was suggesting nonsense.

“John.. think about it-“

“What’s there to think about. Hannah, listen to me. No amount of stick skinny models, actress or idol could stop me from thinking that you’re less than perfect” he held her head firmly as he forced her to look into his eyes. Hoping that she knows how sincere he is being.

“I’ve been chasing you for so long and i’m not gonna let some stupid matter get in the way of us. I love you too much to let go. So please for the love of God know that when i say you’re perfect. You are. Every thing about you is perfect” She looked back at him with rounded eyes as she listened to what he said.

“You love me?” She croaked. Johnny chuckled as he nodded while combing through her hair with his fingers.

“Yeah. I do” He grabbed her tiny hands and kissed her fingers.

“I love how small your hand is, it sometimes made me feel like im sort of a giant. It doesnt help when you said your hands look like a babies hand next to mine though” Hannah giggled as she recalled those memories of her calling him the parent in the relationship.

“I love how big your forehead is, how your eyebrows never grew fully, how your eyes are so small that it disappears when you smile or laugh. I love your small buttoned nose, your chubby cheeks” he kissed every part of her face that he described and finally he rested his forehead against hers. She felt his warm breath feathering her lips.

“You don’t know how i almost lost my mind trying not to kiss your perfectly plumped lips when i was trying to hide my feelings from you” he slowly wrapped his arms around her and pressed his lips against hers. He nibbled her lower lips and slowly attacked them. Hannah gasped as she felt his large cold hands creep underneath her large hoodie. She pushed his away gently as she grabbed his arms to stop him.

“John, I can’t” she whispered, feeling uneasy as her self-esteem took a huge hit lately.

“Hey, I’ve made love to you before and I’m gonna do it again. This time, i’m gonna show you just how perfect your body is” he whispered as he peppered her face with kisses. Johnny slowly kissed down to her jaw and slowly, her neck towards the spot that weakens her. As he felt her grip loosen up, he smiled into the kiss and grabbed her legs and wrapped them around his torso as he slowly lifted her up from their position earning a surprised squeak from her.  

“You gotta hand it to me. That was pretty difficult to pull off” he winked as she giggled, pulling his face closer to hers as they kissed their way into her bedroom.

Tim flops on the couch beside his eldest brother, “Did yousee her room? She’s got a one of those makeup mirror things. The one with thelights in the mirror and all the drawers. When I walked by, she was filling thewhole thing up with makeup”

“Are you serious? Who needs that much makeup?”

“I don’t think Steph, Cass, and Babs have that much makeupcombined. I mean I know her mom was a model and all, but she must be stupid shallowand obsessed with her looks”

There’s a soft creak as the door open and both boys glanceup to see the newest member of the Wayne household standing awkwardly in thedoorway. “Hi, Alfred said that you two were in here … he said that you guys wouldn’tmind giving me a bit of a tour. I only know where my room and the kitchen is …”

Dick lets out a put-upon sigh and heaves himself off thecouch, “Yeah, come on, I’ll show you around.”

“I actually get a lot of my makeup for free. I have a YouTubechannel where I teach people how to put on makeup, so different makeupcompanies will sometimes send me their new pallets or supplies for me to testout and review. Mom taught me to be confident in who I am, to love myself andothers based on who they are as a person. She talks about just being confidentin everything you do and in believing in yourself. The boys end up watchingvideo after video. Watching as she does casual day makeup, or night out makeup.How sometimes her mom or friends will appear in the videos and she’ll do theirmakeup as well as her own and the guest will share their own words of wisdom.The last video the two end up watching is the most recent one Y/N had posted,dated for only a few days after her mother had passed away. It isn’t a makeupvideo at all, it talks about loss and figuring out how live life after losingsomeone so important. Y/N talks about Bruce, how her father who she’s never metintends to take her in and adopt her. Finally, it wraps up by saying that shedoesn’t know when she’ll be able to post again, or even if she’ll be able to answeranyone messages.

“Did we completely misjudge her and act like total assholesto a girl who just lost her only parent up until recently? We’ve both lost ourparents and we were total assholes to her just because we assumed she wasshallow and conceited, when really she just likes makeup and uses it to expressherself”

Dick groans, letting his head fall into his hands, “How dowe make this up to her?”

“Maybe we should follow her advice and actually get to knowher. I think … I think we should treat her like a member of the family insteadof like an outsider. “Perfect! Just us tonight, and maybe next week we can getall the girls over here too?” Dick quickly nods his agreement, “I’m going totell Alfred and see if he can whip up some snacks for us. Can you call Jasonand get Damian?”

“Yeah, I got them. I really hope this works. We might havejust ruined our relationship with Y/N because we judged her over her makeup andnot her personality. We should know better, god we’re so stupid” Dick lets outa soft sigh and pulls out his phone, “Let’s just hope she can forgive us”

A voice clears behind them. Both vigilantes whip around,their eyes wide, having not even heard the door open, “You know, I’d forgiveyou a lot quicker if you’d apologize, that’s typically how these things works”

“Y/N, you scared the crap out of me!” Dick lets out a shakybreath, “I’m sorry … We’re sorry for judging you without getting to know you.We’ve known a lot of models and just kinda assumed that you were like all of them.I didn’t mean to judge you, or insult you”

“I understand. I’m a stranger coming into your guys house.You don’t know me, you guys didn’t even know I existed until recently, so ofcourse you’d assume things about me. That doesn’t make it right though, howeverI’m going to forgive you this time. I want to get to know my new brothers, solet’s put this behind us, okay?”

Pairings: Artist!Taehyung x reader

Summary:  You are an art college student who struggles with finances. Until one day, on an exhibition of the arising artist Kim Taehyung, when the same boy offers you a job as his model. Would it be just a simple job or would it complicate your life in ways you have never thought it would?

A/N: So here is the first chapter. I really don’t know what to think about it as i haven’t written anything in more than a year (so sorry guys but now I am back, yey) I really do hope you like it and please let me know what you think and whether you would like to be tagged in the series ♥ Enjoy 

Euphoria. Excitement. Happiness. Exaltation. A complete symphony of colors and emotions. Blue, purple, violet, azure - blended in such a way that glues you to the masterpiece. At places it seems unfinished, raw, as though the creator has been in a hurry. But at the same time it is so detailed that you wonder how long it took him to create it. It represents a woman, or to be more precise, a young girl. Long hair composed with ochre, amber, honey and a hint of gold, covers half of her pale face. Her lips are the perfect combination of red, cheery, wine and auburn. An orderly chaos of colors.

While everything seems just as raw painting, the most capturing features are the eyes. They are so detailed and express the condition of the girl. The sparks that make her look tangible grabs you on a roller coaster of thoughts and feelings and somehow makes you even experience the same state.  I move to the next painting.

Sadness. Affliction. Pain. Torment. The contrast between the used shades is much deeper. Pale yet dark. The more I look at it, the more it captivates me. All of the creations I saw were beyond amazing, complete masterpieces but this one… This one is different. One look and I got this strange feeling in my guts when we anticipate something bad, something that might hurt us.

The background is composed of dark shades, while the girl is sculpted of the pale range of colors. Again, the most detailed parts are the eyes. You get the feeling as if a soul was trapped inside the drawn girl that shows how much she suffers. The more you contemplate, the more you assume that the darkness around her represents the cruel world, while the bright yet shaded colors shows how fragile and broken she is. Is it from the world? What destroyed her? Who made her look like a shattered vase which parts are no longer going to form its beautiful shape?

Holding my glass of champagne I took some steps back and sat on the settee opposite the painting. Thanks god it wasn’t that low as they use to be in other galleries. I crossed my legs which caused the hem of my black dress to roll up slightly. As an art student, I tend to visit many exhibitions in order to get inspiration, gain knowledge of the new and unorthodox styles and improve mine. I can’t say I am complaining as we are given free access to any kind of such events. This is beyond amazing as now I am contemplating the art of one of the rising artists – Kim Taehyung. Honestly, I have never seen him but the critics consider him the new Van Gogh and now I understand why.

When I came I was so uneven about it, all the people here were rich and classy and I, a broken student with a cheap dress borrowed from her friend, had no place here. Everything was out of my league and I felt like garbage disfiguring this place.

“You seem really immersed into the picture.”, someone chucked, bringing me out of my thoughts. I looked up and saw man in golden suit and two glasses of champagne in his hands. His smile was so bright, genuine, that it made me blush slightly, “May I?”, he titled his head towards the settee as if asking if it was free.

“Ye- yeah, of course”, I stuttered and put a lock of fallen hair behind my ear.

His smile grew bigger and he took the free seat next to me.

“Here.”, he gave me one of the glasses. I looked up at him confused, “I saw that you have already finished yours so…”, I looked at my glass which was empty. I might have stayed there for a way longer time that I have thought. I left the glass on the floor next to the settee.

“Thank you.”, I gave him a smile, although inside I was feeling embarrassed, “Very fond of you.”, I said after taking the offered glass.

“Well, I just wouldn’t have forgiven myself if I have left such a beautiful lady sitting here by her side. The champagne was just an excuse to approach you.”, I bit my lip and tried to hide myself due to the blush that crept on my face.

“You are even more appealing when blushing.”, okay, I have never believed I could become so red but here I am.

“Please, stop.”, I stuttered through the smile that just grew bigger on my face.

“Why?”, he tilted his head and asked me with that sweet smirk still placed on his face, his eyes never leaving my figure, “you don’t like honest people?”, as a response I chuckled and tried to gain my dignity and look at him. Why was I such a blushing mess around this… stranger…a handsome stranger?

“It is just that you are the first one to approach me this evening.”, a slight feeling of sadness made my stomach turn as I recall the events, pardon, the lack of them from this night. I started playing with my hands as something as pity overwhelmed me.

“Well-”, his deep baritone voice made me look at him. This time he was facing the painting in front of us which gave me the opportunity to survey him. Soft pink lips, sweet roundy nose, medium long light eyelashes. Skin in the color of bronze and a golden suit that make him look like a god. Aristocratic hands with long fingers, adorned with rings. The way he is holding the glass gives you the thoughts that a prince is sitting oppose you, “It is their lose.”, he states after locking his eyes with mine. And then I’m completely lost. They are just like the sad girls’ in the paintings – full of emotions. I see the same spark that leads directly to his soul. It captivates you. There is love, care, tenderness that make my heart skips a beat. But also you can spot something wild and intriguing. An abyss of feelings kept locked deep inside.

He took a sip of his champagne which caught my attention and made me break the eye contact. How could such a simple action as drinking makes me wanna grab the brushes and paint this gorgeous creature on the canvas?

“I can’t say I am complaining of that.”, I followed his movements and took a taste of my drink, “They seem like they are here only for talking. All of them are just chit-chatting and just at times spare a glance at the paintings. It – It just looks like a gathering of the rich and bitchy class.”, suddenly he burst into laughing. Oh that sound… It was like a soft melody for my years I could listen to all day. It was so infectious and addicting.

“What?”, I asked confused but with a smile plastered on my face.

“I couldn’t have said it more correctly. I’ve met everybody in the gallery and yet you are the only one contemplating the works.”

“Isn’t that what we are supposed to do on an exhibition? But apart from that, these paintings, these masterpieces…”, I took a breath like looking at the sad girl opposite me, “they are captivating. There is life in them, there is soul. Undoubtedly the artist is one of the best I’ve ever come across. Many have the ability to draw, few have the talent to create a masterpiece, something that makes you stop and think. And these here, they indeed convey more than a hundred words.”

“And where do you think that comes from?”, he asks me in that deep voice of his. I turn my attention back on him to see the man already looking at me with a stern expression showing nothing.

“The ability to make a painting live?”, he nodded his head in agreement, “Pain.”

“Pain?”

“Pain. It is always the pain. Why do you think the greatest artists are those who have suffered the most?  Sadness, sorrow, ache, agony… they are different than the other feelings. When something good happens to you, you are happy for a short moment. Usually those moments tends to be forgotten way easier than the moments that our soul was in pain. It is just that the affliction we bottle inside us ruins us in the end. The knots in our stomach, the suffocating feeling in our chest… they are tormenting us and we all need a way to express them somehow, to try to get them out of us. And the answer is always the art. It doesn’t matter whether it would be with a brush or a pen in our hands, if we are going to compose a poem, song or just draw something.  We just want the pain away. For its tight fist around our hearts to weaken, for its dark thoughts to leave us at peace at night, for the tears to stop rolling down and choke us.”, I paused in order to take a sip of my champagne, feeling his eyes following my movements, “That is one of the reasons why I like this one so much.”, I continued pointing at the work before us, “It look as if not only the model had been sad, but also the artist.”, when I turned around he had a sad smile on his face. For a moment I saw the abyss – full of sorrow and regret, pain and affliction.

“You can’t be more right.”, and once again, as he looked up, the door to his soul closed with that stern expression, “That is why I don’t know whether I like this work or not.”

“It recalls a bad event?”

“It recalls the day I painted her.”

My eyes were so wide that surely they were going to pop out of my head. I opened my mouth, then close it, then opened it again. I was so shocked that I could say nothing.

“I still remember how heartbroken she was.”

“You- you are the artist?”, my voice raised an octave higher and I cursed myself.

“Surprised?”, he asked smiling at my shocked expression.

“You just caught me off guard.”

And then the rest of the night kind of slips my mind. I don’t really know how long we’d been talking through various topics. Whatever felt like hours had only been half an hour once I saw the watch on my hand.

“Unfortunately, as a host, I need to make a speech. It was nice to meet you -”

“(Y/N)!”, answering I took his hand as he helped me get up from the settee.

“(Y/N).”, he said tasting my name and I could not miss the way his tongue rolled and the deep voice that sent shivers down my spine, “A beautiful name for a way more gorgeous girl.”

“Why are you trying to make my blush so hard?”, I asked trying to hide my face.

“I don’t know. I just like it.”, he shrugged with a smile, “Can I ask you something, (Y/N)?”, is it just me or he just lowered his voice on purpose while saying my name.

“O-Of course.”, out of nervousness I started playing with my own hands which only made his smirk grow bigger.

“Hey, woah slow down Tae. How many glass have you drank?” Jimin snatched his glass away and Taehyung smirked.

“Oh come on Chim. Its a party. A happy occassion! Shouldnt we be happy too? Let me drink!” He growls and tries to get his glass back but Jimin pull his hand away.

“How long are you going to be this way? Are you going to get drunk everytime you remember her? Everytime theres a couple? A wedding? An engagement? Anything thats reeks happiness or reminds you of love?!”

“Yeah. I am! So what?!” Taehyung growls and sneered at his friend, trying to find another glass.

“Get over her already Kim Taehyung!” Jimin yelled. “Get over Y/N!”

“I cant. Not when she looks so happy in another man’s arm. No one should be able to make her happy like that except for me Chim! No one!” Taehyung sighed and slumped down on the chair.

“But you are the one wbo blew it Tae. Its your own damn fault and you got no one to blame,” Jimim rubs his friend’s back. He knows how heart broken Taehyung is but theres realy no one else to blame but himself. “Now man up. Its a party and you wont ruined it just because you cant see anyone else happy and in love!” Jimin growls and shakes Taehyung’s shoulder. “Shes happier now and you should be happy for her, and thats that,”

Its only been a few months after their fateful breakup that Taehyung saw Y/N again. He saw her in her favorite scarf and beanie, fighting the cold weather, her nose and the tip of her ears slightly pink. Taehyung loves that look on her. He always teased her about it when they were together. Without realizing, his legs has taken him into her direction, wanting nothing more than to tap her shoulder and tell her how much he misses her, but Taehyung never get the opportunity when clumsy as she is, she bumped into someone the moment she walked into the bar, spilling the glasses of beer the man is holding. And before he knows it, the two of them are talking and laughing to the wee hours, the man’s friends forgotten and Taehyung sat alone by the corner, just staring at them.

His last memory of hers… her crying face, her eyes thats filled with pain.. now is replaced by the wide smile on her face, laughing at something the man said. If only Taehyund had walked faster. If only Taehyung grabbed her hand first before she enters the bar, if only she wasnt clumsy. So many ifs but everything is too late when all he can see now is Y/N’s big grin that matches the man as they exchanged phone numbers.

Y/N had refused his invitation for drinks multiple times when they first met, but Taehyung was relentless. Taehyung and Y/N are madly in love, and eventhough they were not allowed to date in public, that didnt seem to stop them as their love for each other burns quite strongly. Y/N believes that no matter what happen, they can take it, just as long as Taehyung continues to love her.

Nine years they have been together. They are in love and happy and Taehyung couldnt have asked for more. Y/N is understanding, beautiful, smart, sweet and everything else he ever wanted in a girl, but Yerin came like a summer breeze in his comfortable winter with Y/N. Hr met when Yerin, a rookie idol, was casted as one of the model for their music video. She is fresh, young, charming and new and for some odd reason, out of the sevem boys, she seemed to be interested in him. Yerin didnt know at first, to the world Taehyung is a single man, and by the time she found out that Taehyung is in a long term serious relationship, she has already fallen too deep in love with him,amd a girlfriend wont stop her efforts in persuing Kim Taehyung.

Relentless and determined to make Taehyung hers, she become his dream girl, his one place to vent about work stress… or when he has fight with Y/N. Tiny unimportant arguments turns into bigger fights led Taehyung to not coming home for days. And Yerin swoop in to take the opportunity and on one drunken night at a bar listening to Taehyung vent about the fights led to sleepless night in her bed, doing things he shouldnt have. One night turns to many, once a week turns to almost everyday and soon enough Taehyung is convinced that he is in love with Yerin too.

So Y/N becomes a punch bag. A person to release his anger on when he got into a fight with Yerin. When he is jealous about Yerin’s intinate closeness with her co star. Smiles and sweet nothings are only whispered in Yerin’s ears and only harsh words of insults and yelling are left for Y/N.

Nine years theu have been together. Ten in a few months, and Y/N knkws something has changed in her relationship Taehyung. Is it her? Did she do something? Did she changed? Is that why Taehyung hates her so much?

Tears dripped down on the cold floor as she kneeled down to pick up the remains of the food that she worked so hard to cook as a surprise for him and scattered pieces of the broken plate that Taehyung threw on the floor earlier before storming out. Just because she asks him where he had been when she calls the dorm and the boys said he were not there. Just because of that one question, Taehyung pushed down everything on the table to the floor in rage before storming off, not coming home for the next three days. Dont even get her started on the harsh words Taehyung said to her every day, cancelling on date nights for no reason at all even when she is already fully dressed and pushing her away when she tries to kiss him. Y/N starts to keep to herself, crying herself to sleep whenever Taehyung stormed off or didnt make it home for the night, keeping quiet when he is around, afraid anything she said will set him off, all the while trying to think of the mistake she did that seems to make Taehyung to stop loving her.

But no matter how she tried, she doesnt know why. Y/N was almost convinced that maybe Taehyung’s love for her has expired. Maybe love does have an expired date after all. After all, they have been together for nearly 10 years, maybe he is bored of her already.

Then one fateful day, when she decides to come home early from work, she finally found out why.

The red stilletos placed neatly in front of the door is definitely not hers. But even with a panic rising in her chest, Y/N tries to reason with herself. Maybe one of the boys comes over to visit Taehyung and brought their girlfriend with them. Yes, that could be it. But the dim lighted house when she entered and the trail of clothes leading to their bedroom are making it hard to believe the reason she just came out with.

The noise she heard as she neared the room is making her thoughts came true and the sight she sees when she pushed open the door slightly confirmed everything.

Y/N covered her mouth with both of her hand as she stood there watching her boyfriend thrusting in and out of a woman she has never seen before. Their loud moans and being lost in pleasure distract them from seeing her there, and with tears running down her face, Y/N turned around and went out from the house, eliminating all traces that she has been there and witness the whole thing.

Maybe its a one time thing. She can forgive a one time thing right? Everyone make mistakes and Taehyung is only human. He loves her. Taehyung still loves her.

Atleast that is what she keeps tellimg herself as she comes home hours later, pretending like nothing happened.

Y/N’s hope and trust that its a one time thing broke into pieces when she starts to caught them multiple times, everywhere. Even worse when she caught Taehyung talking to the girl on the phone, and texting her. Her heart shattered into pieces when she finally heard it. Taehyung’s hush voice, under the blanket.

“I love you Yerin, goodnight angel,”

All this time Y/N pretended not to know that her boyfriend is sleeping with someone else, in her own house too. She pretended not to know, hoping its just a fling, something Taehyung needed to get out from his system. She knows she can forgive him, just as long as he tells her he still loves her.

But telling the other girl he loves her? Y/N knew then that their relationship is over. And she knows just the perfect gift she could give to the man she loves, one last time.

Why didnt he notice her smile that just didnt reached her eyes anymore? Or the way she goes to bed early? Or how she always refuses date night saying shes too exhausted? And her puffy and red eyes like she has been crying all night when she wakes him up for breakfast? Why didnt he see all that?

Taehyung took a swig from the already half empty bottle as he thinks about all the things he should have noticed. Things that showed Y/N already knows about his infidelity. Knows how he already broke her heart.Things he should have done. This is his usual routine whenever they dont have a schedule now, crawled into a corner at a nameless bar where no one would recognize him and drinks up one whole bottle or whatever bottle that he is sober enough to order next, thinking about his memories with Y/N. The good memories, the bad memories, and just memories of her. The way she walks, talks, laugh and smile. The way she always smell, of roses and vanilla, the way she needs to drink a cup of milk before she can fall asleep, the way she loves to dance in the rain. Every single thing reminds Taehyung of Y/N. So he drinks. He keeps on drinking until all theres left are hazy memories of her, and yet, when he wakes up after passing out at some alleyway the next morning, her face is always the first thing that appeared in his mind.

Taehyung shouldnt be this way. He shouldnt even feel this way. He shouldnt even be thinking about Y/N at all. Y/N has found someone new. Someone who can make her laugh better, smile wider, happier even, and she dont need him anymore. But why is it Taehyung needs her more than ever now?

“T-Taehyung?” Y/N’s sleepy eyes popped wide open when she realized who is at her door at 4 am in the morning, looking drunk as hell and disheveled.

“Baybeeeee,” Taehyung slurred as he stumbled into the door, trying to kiss her but Y/N avoided him.

“Tae go home. Its 4 am and you are drunk,”

“I-Im not drunkkk. I want to see my babybeee,” he giggles and stumbled into the couch.

“Tae…” Y/N sighed. “Just stay there. Ill make some coffee to help you sober up and then maybe you can go home,” Y/N make sure he is safe and comfortable on the couch before heading to the kitchen to make him the coffee and some snacks. By the time she came back, Taehyung is already fast asleep, drooling on her couch. She stood there in front of him, a steaming cup of coffee in one hand, looking at him sadly.

“I guess… we just have to talk tomorrow then. Sleep well Taehyung,”

“Hey… how are you feeling?” Taehyung feels like he has woken up in heaven when the first thing he sees is Y/N’s face smiling in front of him if its not for the killer headache attacking his head right at that moment.

“Like dying,” he groans out. Y/N giggles at his answer and even then he feels his heart skipped a beat from the sound.

“I know. You are hangover. Drink this. It will help,” she pushes a glass of hot beverage in front of him and some pills. “And I made breakfast too. Eat up before you go okay,” the thought of Y/N making him breakfast sends his heart into a frenzy but then he remembers her next words, ‘before you go’ . Right. They are no longer together. He can no longer lounge and watch TV with her, legs tangling together after breakfast or his favorite, making sweet sweet love to her. Y/N belongs to someone else now. And he needs to go after he eats breakfast.

“Yeah.. thanks,” he takes a sip of the drink and swallow his pills. “I take it I was drunk and showed up at your house at late hours last night?”

“4 am to be exact,” she smiles.

“I’m really sorry Y/N,”

“Its okay Tae. It happens. I understand. Eat up and sober up okay? Your brothers must be worried about you,” she smiles again and start to get up but Taehyung stop her by pulling her hand.

“No. Theres no possible way that you can understand Y/N,” he looks at her straight in the eye. “You wont be able to understand how much I miss you, need you,”

“Taehyung, dont,” Y/N tries to shake her hand loose but to no avail.

“Please Y/N…”

“I-I dont know what you are asking from me. Taehyung we are over. I have met someone new now,” Y/N tries to shake her hand off again. “Tae… I’m happy with him,” Her words were like a blade to Taehyung’s heart. “You know I’m happy with him,”

“Y/N… I know you deserve to be happy. I know theres someone out there that deserves you more than me, that can treat you better, love you better…” he trailed off, hoping for a reaction.

Y/N just kept quiet, finally able to take her hand back after Taehyung let it go.

“But Y/N… give me a chance. You have loved me before. You can love me again. I will treat you the way you really deserve Y/N. Please…,” Taehyung begged, his eyes wide. “Y/N… I still love you. I am still so in love with you. I cant forget you. I cant move on from you,”

“Tae… please dont do this,” Y/N sniffles, tears threatening to fall down. “You know I love you before Tae. You are everything to me,” she cups his face. “But its over. You didnt choose me. So I chooses someone new Tae. And this breakup is the only gift I could give you,”

I could try to smile to hide the truth I know I was happier with you

“Happy anniversary Kim Taehyung. I cant believe its our 10th year together now,” Y/N smiles at him and Taehyung smiles back. God, he misses that smile. So beautiful. A smile that never fails to make all his bad days turns good again. That smile that never leave her face no matter how bad Taehyung treated her all this years. Abandoned her, keeping her a secret, yells at her, making her a punching bag, push her around, hurt her… everything bad he did, she only replied with that smile.

Why am I so stupid? Taehyung thought to himself. He already have the perfect angel bestowed upon him and all he do is take her for granted and hurt her. I’m never going to make her cry out of sadness ever again. Ever. I’m going to make it right this time. Who am I kidding? No one will ever be able to make as happy as she is. Y/N is the only one for me. Forever and always. I’m at my happiest only when I’m with her, and I’ll keep it that way.

Yerin was a mistake. He never loved her. He realized that now. Everything he did with her is out of lust, and blinded feelings. Y/N deserves better. Y/N is the only girl for him and he knows that now. Taehyung just hopes that he is not too late.

“Happy anniversary baby,” Taehyung closes the gap between them and hold her hand. He leans in to give her a kiss but Y/N titlted her head, avoiding it, making Taehyung confused. “Baby? Everything okay?”

“Everything is more than okay. Its great even,” Y/N smiles again, but her smile is sad this time. Taehyung furrowed her brows. Whats happening? He starts to panics when tears starts falling down her cheeks softly, but the smile still etched across her face.

“T-then why are you crying baby?”

“N-nothing. I’m just going to give you your present okay?”

“Okay. But wait!” Taehyung reached on the table and take the gift box that he had wrapped so carefully. “Open mine first. Its not much baby but I promise everything is changing starting now. That present is just the beginning,” he grins, knowing Y/N couldnt possibly understand what he is talking about.

“I…” Y/N looks down, not moving to take the box. “Just… I want to give you my present first okay Taehyung?”

“O-okay then baby. What is it?”

“I’m afraid its not something material,” she smiles. “But I know you will love it,”

“Really? What is it baby?” Taehyung smiles warmly at her. “Whatever it is you are giving me, I will like it anyway. Because it came from you,”

Y/N smiles and didnt say anything, moving closer to him and take his hand, her thumb carresing the back of his hand before the other carressed his cheeks. Her eyes look into his deeply, as if trying to remember his face one last time. Taehyung feels panic rising in his chest but keeps on smiling.

“My gift for you Taehyung, is a bit special. Since its our 10 years anniversary,” she looks down for a moment before lifting her eyes to look back into his, glazed with tears. “I’m giving you your freedom,”

“What do you mean? What freedom?”

“I’m breaking up with you Tae,” Y/N smiles softly, tears are again cascading down her cheeks.

“Breaking up?! What?! Baby no! I-”

“Listen to me!” Y/N raised her hand to stop him from talking. “I’m breaking up with you Tae, so you dont have to. I know about you and Yerin and I also know about how long it has been going on,” Taehyung felt all the blood is gone from his face as he tries to grab Y/N’s hand but she flinched away. “I’m giving you freedom from me Tae. So you dont have to cheat anymore. Go to her,”

“Baby no! I’m sorry!” Taehyung is also crying now. “Baby, I swear. Its a mistake. I-”

“Its not a mistake when it has been going on for more than a year Tae,” Y/N gave him a small smile. “I can see your face Tae. Your exhaustion whenever you are with me. How forced you feel when you have to come back to me when all you want is to be with her, right? Its alright. This is my final gift to you. You dont have to feel bad anymore. And I wont put this against you,” Y/N nods and pulls out something from behind the couch, her luggage that Taehyung recognized so well. He recognized because they bought it together. The stickers on it a reminder of all the places they have been together, creating memories, but now all torned up, leaving the surface if the luggage empty. Is she throwimg all their memories away?

“No. No! I’m not letting you go! Y/N, I’m sorry. I know. I know my mistake is too huge to be forgiven, but give me a chance to redeem myself. Just dont leave me, plesse baby,” he pleaded, begging desperately.

“I cant do that Tae. Every night when you didnt come home I cried in my bed, my head spinning, thinking if you are with her tonight. Thinking if you are doing the things you used to do with me. Are you happy with her? Are you sleeping soundly in her arms? I cant do that anymore Tae. I’m sorry but I cant,”

“I swear Y/N. Its over. Its really is over! Its you. You are the one I want. The one I love!” Taehyung tries to pull her back when she tries to wheel her luggage out the door.

“Tae.. I keep on thinking, wondering. Is there anything else that I could have done, that I should have do to prevented you from doing it… but I cant think of anything. I have given you my everything Tae bur its not enough,” Y/N sobs. “I realized it now. Im not enough. A-and this is the last thing I can give you to proof how much I love you,”

“If you love me, please dont go Y/N. Please dont. I will change. Ill do anything you want, please Y/N. I love you, I love you,” Taehyung is already on his knees, hugging her waist but she peeled off his hands that di wrapped around her.

“You dont love me Tae. If you do you wouldnt have done it. There must be something about her that makes you keep coming back… and I’m giving you the freedom to enjoy that with her. That is my last gift to you,” Y/N pushed his hands away and with tear stricken face turn to him one last time. “Happy anniversary Tae, you know I love you, but my love alone is not enough. You will be happier without me. Goodbye my love,”

And with that, Y/N walks out, never looking back.

And look at her Tae,” Jimin points to the front, where the main couple of the engagement party stood. “She looks so happy. Jungkook makes her happy, and you know that. He treats her right. She has been happy ever since she met Kookie at the bar,”

Taehyung look at the newly engaged couple in front of the room, Jungkook pulling Y/N, his now fiancee, in for a kiss as she blushes shyly and gave a weak smile towards Jimin.

“She doesnt just look happy Chim,” Taehyung said, making Jimin turned to him,curious as to what his friend is going to say. “She looks extremely happier. Happier than she ever did with me… and thats a good thing right?” Taehyung finishes off his glass in one gulp. “But I’ll be here Chim. I’ll be waiting for her here, forever. And if I ever be given the chance again, then I’ll make her even happier than that,”

humans - regular earth humans pretty standardabnormal humans - an odd case of a human born from mutant parents who didnt inherit the mutation(s) but instead got some the benefits of being a mutantraremutants - natural born mutants;; theyre “rare”mutants because there are only 7 raremutant families in the world that were born mutants without any experimentation;; they are “Real” mutants;; all have some sort of special “ability” (maximovs - strength // polichevs - speed // diolis - reflexes // ect)regular mutants - mutants that became the way they are by being experimented on or were born from mutants who were mutated thru experimentation

the very basics of my boyfriends and my oc universes story is vsevolod maximov (boyfriends oc) was born having randomly mutated 4 arms despite his human parents being completely untampered, making him the very first raremutant along the way others raremutants were born (beniamin/fiore) theres humans who experimented on vsev and beniamin trying to replicate their mutations;; but since theyre raremutants their mutations cant be replicated artificially and so regular mutants were made causing other humans to grow more eyes or have different colour skin ect. fast forward a lot and you come to the group we normally draw! there is a lot of hate between mutants and humans;; humans are typically disgusted or hateful of mutants and mutants are distrustful of humans;; mutants are treated unfairly; sometimes tortured and killed;; various people of the group we normally draw fight against that;; specifically in my story there is a sort of secret war between mutants and humans that has been going on for many years;; a resistance has been created to try to bring that war to light and put an end to it

i serpenti - a group of humans created by enrica serpente;; they are assassins/spies that hunt mutants and humans who are accepting of mutants;; they often perform experiments of their own on mutants and humans;; they create mutants from humans who are accepting of them to punish them (as mutating is very painful) some are rescued and some die in captivity or from exhaustion from mutating

gli occhi - a group of eye mutants created by fiorella dioli;; they are assassin/spies who hunt down serpente members and and free mutants and humans;; they put the rescued into care until they are able to take care of themselves again;; theyre a secret group that works in the shadows;; the only people that know of them are the people a part of it; people rescued by them; and i serpenti

i falchi - a resistance (of mostly mutants;; but some humans) created by pietro falco;; they protest and make themselves seen they aid mutants in need;; its divided into 3 factions;; pietros is made up of the most skilled thieves;; agostinas is made up of the most medically experienced;; zacharies is made up of the most human tolerant

l’occhio di falco - a very well kept secret 4th faction of i falchi run by leonardo dioli;; they are 3 groups of specially trained (mutant) assassin/spies (usually but not always from gli occhi);; when pietro believes a speech or gathering could be attacked by i serpenti he calls leonardo to get together this group and protect them behind the scenes taking out the threats;; there are 3 teams leonardo is the leader of the most skilled and experienced team while the other 2 teams have their own but they all work under leonardos guidance 

pietro falco - a regular mutant who once believed in humans! he dreamed of becoming a cop and changing peoples views of mutants;; he wanted to be something good;; he worked hard but was betrayed by his partner (ulderico) his name was completely ruined causing pietro to become extremely paranoid and bitter towards humans;; he used to work as a spy for gli occhi but not an assassin he refused to kill;; until he was betrayed he became a fulltime agent for gli occhi but his anger made him reckless;; he and leonardo were a perfect team until he decided to quit;; he was sick of working in the dark while others were oblivious to their suffering;; he decided to form a resistance (with help from zacharie and agostina) in hopes he could help end the war in a different way;; in human eyes hes often seen as a violent menace who should be stopped;; for mutants hes an inspiration and sometimes even, a hero

leonardo dioli - a (defective) raremutant who believes in humans! he is the current leader and top agent of gli occhi;; he has a human persona he presents to the public for his fashion business he inherited from his father; he does this while making most of his models mutants to attempt to raise more positivity! from time to time he is threatened to be exposed but it cant be used against him because he doesnt actually much care to keep it up;; he plans on revealing himself in the future anyways! he leads l’occhio di falco to help pietro while pietro helps him;; they often exchange information and lend hands

felix ruggieri - a regular mutant who helps out leonardo and pietro when he can;; felix is very special to leonardo;; leo has protected felix all his life; he has kept gli occhi i serpenti and the war a secret from him and has tried to protect that secret for many years;; felix has found out about everything however because of his father lodovico;; nobody knows that felix knows except for mikolaj (who he has trusted with this knowledge) for the first 19 years of his life he was just a partyboy mechanic who didnt care for much except himself and his loved ones;; at age 20 he found out all about the war from his shitbag father; he then later trusted mikolaj with the knowledge that he(felix) knows about everything even though leonardo doesnt want him to;; felix and miko on very rare occasions work together to take down certain targets;; because of his father felix is now a target of i serpenti and is hunted down;; from time to time when he finds out new knowledge leo and pietro might not know; he meets up with miko to tell him so mikolaj can relay the message to leonardo and/or pietro for him

lodovico acciai - a disgusting regular mutant who used to work with i serpenti;; he cut a deal to lure mutants and mutant accepting humans for i serpenti to experiment on;; he was felixs birth father; he ended up lying to i serpenti to get them off his back about leonardo because he was too obsessed with felix and shaping him to be just like himself(vico);; i serpenti ended up taking vico and overmutating him and incidentally saving felixs life;; he originally worked with i serpenti bc he didnt care about anything but himself and money; he “cared” about felix because they shared blood relations making vico believe he could turn felix into being an exact copy of himself

Who's In Control of Your Life?

Let me tell you three stories. The first comes from my own life, while the other two are things that Ive observed recently. * * * For my own tale, lets roll back several years. At that time, I worked as a research assistant focusing on data mining. My job mostly revolved around writing tools for researchers to explore a very large data set in a simple fashion, essentially enabling them to make connections within the data at a click of the mouse, and I also spent a significant amount of my time digging through the data myself, looking for useful patterns and trying to make sense of it all. I really loved the work I was doing. When I was actually doing the data mining, or when I was working with researchers to come up with ways to help them explore the data on their own, I deeply enjoyed the work. It was intellectually challenging, interesting, and meaningful. I also dearly loved the small team I worked with at the time. What I didnt enjoy was the bureaucratic end of it. I didnt enjoy the travel. I didnt enjoy the many bureaucratic meetings. I didnt enjoy the constant filling out of forms that seemed to be largely purposeless. I didnt enjoy the constant change in how we filed our travel receipts, the constant changes in our email services, and many other aspects of the job that were purely bureaucratic. I was also frustrated by how there were constant promises of more resources that were sorely needed to actually improve our offerings, but those resources seemed to never actually materialize. Because of that lack of resources, I felt my work slowly turning from creating useful new things and discovering new data connections to just maintaining tools so that they wouldnt break when other people changed things. I gradually became more and more responsible for IT management, fixing servers and things when they had problems, and that caused me to have to go into work on more and more weekends and spend more and more time effectively on call. Over time, my feelings on this job began to shift. I went from feeling great about going to work each day to dreading going to work, particularly on days when there were meetings and particularly on days leading up to travel. For the last year or two that I worked at this job, I felt miserable. Travel was causing me to miss several big moments with my children, including my sons first steps. Most days were filled with bureaucracy and maintenance. I felt deeply unhappy. So, why did I stick around for that last year or two? The big reason was that I felt like I needed the job. I didnt have strong financial control over my life yet and thus I really needed the stability that the job provided. In short, that job and that situation had control over my life. I couldnt walk away without putting my wife and my young children in a very precarious place. * * * The second story comes from a reader who Ill call Jeff, who wrote in with a long story for the reader mailbag. After some back and forth conversation with him, he wanted me to share his story in a post. Jeff grew up in an upper middle class family. In college, he fell in love with Suzanne, who he thought was also upper middle class until, shortly before the wedding, he learned that Suzannes family was rather wealthy thanks to her grandfather. Suzanne has a large trust in place for her thats controlled by Suzannes mother. Suzanne and Jeff have been married for several years and apparently theyve spent much of this time jousting with Suzannes mother, sometimes even in court, to gain access to the trust. It is apparently up to Suzannes mother as to when the money can be released to Suzanne and Jeff. He wrote in asking for advice on some other means to try to gain access to that money. My response to Jeff was simple: try to live your life for a while as though that trust does not exist. What would your life be like if there was no trust that was ever going to appear? What would you do? Live your life that way. If the trust money comes, then its a boon. Right now, the lack of a trust is a bust. After some back and forth emails with Jeff, it seems as though he and Suzanne have had a lot of conversations about the situation and have decided to do just that to stop worrying about the trust at all and start living as though it doesnt exist. * * * Heres a third story that might seem unrelated at first, but its well worth discussing. My wife went on a very long-planned trip with her sisters this spring. They had been planning the trip for almost a decade and this spring was the culmination of those plans. During their trip, they had the opportunity to visit Chichen Itza, the Mayan ruins in southern Mexico. While there, Sarah took a ton of photographs and short videos. They were all focused on the view, a view that she wanted to always be able to remember even when her memory of it faded a little. One thing I couldnt help but notice is that in many of the video clips and photographs, there was a young woman who had an elaborate selfie setup that involved tripods and lighting poles and so on. She was backed up right against the edge of where she could walk and, in every video clip and picture, she was either taking selfies with Chicken Itza in the background or checking the selfies. This was going on over a long period of time. Not once, in any of the photographs, did the young woman seem to be paying any attention to Chichen Itza. She had traveled so far to see one of the wonders of the world, and yet her full attention was on getting a great selfie or two, ostensibly to post to Instagram or some other social media service. * * * These three stories all have something in common. They all depict people living their lives under the control of others, not themselves. In my own situation, I lived my life under the control of my supervisors and the bureaucracy of my workplace. I absolutely loathed it, but I persisted under it for years. Why? I had chosen a lifestyle that required the income and stability provided by that bureaucracy. I had ceded control of my time and energy over to them. In Jeffs situation, he and Suzanne lived their life obsessed with the money sitting in that trust and constantly battling Suzannes mother for that money. That battle absorbed tons of their time, energy, and focus, and although he didnt get into it, it seemed clear that the relationship with Suzannes mother was weakened by the fight. In that case, Jeff and Suzanne had ceded control of their time, energy, thought, and focus over to their mother-in-law simply out of a desire for more money. In the story of the woman at Chichen Itza, her focus was solely on producing an amazing selfie, ostensibly to share with others. This took her attention away from the destination of a long trip and the grandeur of a wonder of the world. Instead, she focused on the lighting on her face and the camera she was using. I suppose she may have been a professional photographer and a model at the same time, but it seems far more likely in our modern era that she was simply trying to get the perfect shot for Instagram. In other words, she ceded control over her own time and focus to her Instagram followers, causing her to miss out completely on the amazing opportunity before her. In all three of those stories, someone else is in control of a persons life and decisions. I wasnt in control of my professional decisions or their own financial destiny. Jeff and Suzanne werent in control of their familial decisions or their own financial destiny. The woman taking the selfie was ceding control over her time and focus in one of the most amazing places on Earth to anonymous Instagram followers and other social media friends. * * * If theres a lesson Ive learned throughout my adult life, its this: there are few surer routes to unhappiness than ceding control of your life over to the whims of someone else. When you cede power over your life to your boss out of financial need, you give your boss the power to take away your free time and all of your energy. Even if your boss doesnt do that, that power still rests in their hands. When you cede power over your life to someone who might give you money, you give that person power over your attention and your thought and your time and your destiny. Even if that person is very giving in terms of that money, they still retain that power and can use it as they please. When you cede power in your life to social media followers and constantly do things that you think will impress them or interest them or make them envious, you give those anonymous followers the power to shape your decisions and shape how you use your time. Youre no longer doing the things you want to do; youre doing the things they want you to do and hoping for their approval. Those situations bring unhappiness. Im speaking from my own experience and the experiences of many people in my life and many readers. Whenever you feel like you dont have control over your life and youre forced to bend your life over and over to the whim of those who do have control, it brings about sadness and serious dissatisfaction with life. What about situations that come with responsibility, like becoming a parent? In those situations, there are definitely moments where you feel trapped and out of control, and those times do bring bad feelings. However, theyre typically counterbalanced by the good moments and the fact that you chose this responsibility. Also, responsibility often leaves some level of control over the situation you do control how you choose to parent your child. On the other hand, you dont have control over the fickle nature of social media followers or the whims of your boss or to those who can turn off the spigot of money youre relying on or the organizations to which you owe money this list goes on and on. Its that lack of control that brings unhappiness, and making financial and lifestyle missteps is one of the surest ways to lose financial and professional control and freedom in your life. This doesnt just manifest itself in terms of personal unhappiness thats just the start. It has negative physical and mental implications due to the stress of the situation. It has negative financial implications because many people drown themselves in treats, giving themselves little bursts of pleasure so that they can temporarily feel a burst of joy. What can you do? Its easy. Start taking control back. Even if you cant fully wrest control of the situation back immediately (sometimes you can, but often the situation is deep and complex enough that you cant), you need to start down that path. Here are some strategies for doing just that. Spend a lot less than you earn and bank the difference, so that you can make changes to your life if theyre warranted. Walking away from a miserable job is a lot easier if youre already living on less than you earn and have been doing so for a while and youve put away the extra money for the future. In essence, it was the start of our financial turnaround that gave me the ability to try new things and then eventually have the financial freedom to walk away from a job that was leaving me feeling crushed. The power of this strategy is that it frees you from being under the control of anyone who can turn the spigots of money in your life on and off. Before long, youll have the freedom to be able to move to another opportunity (like moving to a new job) or to just start ignoring a particularly troublesome one (like Jeff and Suzannes family issue). Eventually, you wont need to think about a spigot at all its a convenience, but not a need, and you can walk away if you dont like the relationship without needing to just jump to another opportunity. This can be challenging because one of the most obvious places to start is to cut out the stream of low-value treats that many people who feel unhappy and trapped use as a stream of happiness bursts in your life. You have to seek out other sources for those moments of bliss that dont require spending money. Spend less than you earn. Make that gap as big as you can without introducing new misery into your life. Use that gap to get rid of debt and start saving for the future, whether its retirement or any other significant life change. Thats the recipe. Focus on building relationships with people who enjoy doing the things you would do on your own (or with an army of clones of you). One of my favorite questions to ask myself is what would I do if I had to live the rest of my life on an island with 100 clones of myself? Meaning, in other words, that they all had the same internal desires that I do. What would I do? Id read a lot and have conversations about those books. Id go on lots of hikes and explore every inch of the island. Id play a lot of long, complex board games. Id make amazing meals and a lot of fermented foods and craft beer. Thus, this advice tells me to find other people who like to read a lot and talk about the books that they read. This advice suggests that I find people who like to do easy and moderate difficulty hikes (I dont like rock climbing and my balance isnt superb) and go on hikes with them. This advice suggests I find people who like to play long strategic board games. This advice suggests that I make a lot of meals and good food and beer and share them with people who appreciate them, and maybe find people who like to make them, too. Those are my people. I need to find them and build friendships with them. That way, I find companionship and friendship and affirmation by doing the things I naturally want to do anyway, rather than having to mold myself to appease others. This gives me much greater control over my free time and my hobby time. Who are your people? What are the things you would do on an island by yourself and 100 clones of yourself? Figure that out, then find people who like that, too, and make friends with them. That way, you dont have to change who you are or spend time or energy or money on things that you dont really care about in order to feel friendship and acceptance. Learn how to say no. Many people find themselves eventually trapped by a mountain of commitments and arrangements they brought on themselves by being unable to say no to others when theyre asked for something. In fact, by committing to more, youre likely going to end up with that other person in a worse position than if you had simply said no right now. I often turn things down by saying some variation on this: I really appreciate that you asked me to help, but I have to say no. My plate is already really full right now and if I took on that thing as well, not only would I not be able to give it my full effort and attention, I would also be letting down the things Im already committed to. I usually then follow it up with a suggestion of other people who might be able to help. Saying no in that way is more valuable than saying yes to something that overwhelms you and that you cant live up to in a quality fashion. It is far better to say no than to let someone down when theyre relying on you or to deliver a bad result. Give yourself the power to have control over whats on your agenda, so that you can fill it with just things you can excel at without being overwhelmed. I absolutely love being a parent and its a role that fulfills me deeply, but if someone is asking me if they should have kids and theyre really unsure about it, Ill usually advise them to not have kids. Dont commit to having children unless it is a full-bore full-throated deep commitment, because a child deserves that from their parents. This is true with any long term commitment you may face in life. For example, dont get married if you dont think you can live up to those vows or youre not sure you can live your life with this person. Its better to say no than to say yes and fail that commitment and that other person who put their trust in you. If youre agreeing to something over the long term, youre ceding some control over your life and breaking that commitment is likely to be painful. Be very careful when doing this, and make absolutely sure that this is something you truly want. Dont walk into a huge commitment without high confidence. The message in all of this is simple: most of us feel happiest when we have maximum control over our lives. When we cede control over our decisions to others, by allowing things like our boss to push us into unpaid overtime or unethical tasks, by allowing ourselves to become financially dependent on things other people control, by allowing our emotions to be controlled by the approval of others, by committing to things and then growing to regret them, we bring unhappiness into our lives, and that unhappiness is often temporarily dealt with by overspending. In 2008 I had insurance in California, through my employer. I got laid off in June, but was on COBRA in Sept. 2008, when Blue Cross authorized me for gastric bypass surgery. In Oct 2009, owing to a dispute over COBRA payments, my insurance lapsed. As of Nov 1 I have no coverage, and new insurance through my wife's Kaiser won't start until Jan 1. Yesterday (Dec 23 09) I had to go to the ER due to abdominal pain that turned out to be a complication of the 2008 gastric bypass. Last night I had a CT scan and emergency surgery to correct the problem. Blue Cross rejected the claim, which of course makes sense and pushing it through was just a formality anyway. But today I wondered if, since the procedure was covered originally, would surgery to correct a complication be covered by law even if my insurance lapsed? I know I'm grasping at straws here, but it seems like it might be worth a consultation with an attorney to find out. I think this surgery is going to run to $40K or more. It was a simple laproscopic procedure, but y'know nothing's cheap. The original bypass was billed to Blue Cross at $38K. I know it's not like defect liability, since a surgeon can't guarantee there will not be complications. Also, I know I can't expect free legal advice here. But if someone knows for sure or has thoughts one way or the other would be helpful.""

I would like to let you people know that I'm a full-time student, and that this month has to be officially the worst month of my life. Throughout this month I've been pulled over twice, and the reason for them are pretty stupid if you ask me. I basically see it as being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
