I've... Started writing a thing for the adopted au. I was trying to work on an original story, but I kept thinking about this so here we go I guess! Here's a little snippet of what I've got so far. Idk when it will be done, but I'm having fun writing it!

Michaelangelo sits cross-legged on the floor of the dojo, meditating. It's a practice he hasn't done much since he came to this dimension. Sometimes in the early mornings he would meditate on the city skyline or at the Mural. It helped Angelo to feel close to the family that raised him, but it just wasn't the same without his Grandpa Splinter or Uncle Leo there. In the months after the krang invasion, though, he started doing it regularly again. He's found that it helps him to build his connection with his mystic powers, as well focus them. He hasn't figured out yet how to summon the thousands of chains Casey said his future self was able to control, but he's not worried about that tonight.

He grips the handle of the sai laying across his lap. It's old and worn, the fabric remembering the imprint of a hand larger than his own. Angelo focuses on it, on the turtle who used to wield it, and tries to feel the connection between them.

A spark lights at his core.

AH! This is so cool! : D Look at the boy go! getting more in touch with his mystics! He'll be forming that portal to '03 in no time!

I do find it facinating how Dracula Daily has turned Dracula into a different kind of myth now that we're in its third year running. I've seen a few people compare it to Hadestown, or a timeloop. The enjoyment isn't JUST from engaging with the story now, it's engaging with the experience, and while the emails are still the same as previous years, we've been through this before.

The way we as an audience interact with this story and this way of telling the story changes the genre. Its no longer a gothic horror, classic lit story. It's become a mythology, a tragedy, a repeating loop. Jonathan Harker returns to the castle every year. Every year it happens again. And that changes it, builds up new mythos around it, even if the words stay exactly the same.
