i dont have this as a coherent argument but there's something about bbc ghosts that is just so much more. genuine? than the american one. and I only watched like 2 episodes of the cbs one but still. to me i think it suffered from that marvel-ification "he's behind me isnt he?" wink wonk cheesy like. exaggeration in a way that wasnt purposeful or sincere. the whole everyone is beautiful and no one is horny situation. whereas in bbc ghosts the whole show is a little bit rough around the edges and ugly and imperfect in a way that makes it infinitely more endearing. I'd rather watch a theater production where someone occasionally misses a cue but the people care and have something to say, rather than a perfectly airbrushed and photoshopped one that talks a lot and says nothing. yknow?

Merlin Thoughts
Okay so bear with me here for a moment.
So you know how King Arthur is said to have lived during the 5-6th century? Well during that time its most likely he would've spoken this language called Brytthonic (or however you spell it. its a dead language that im pretty sure Welsh comes from)
But anyway, this language is like completely dead now and like super different from modern English. Which brings me into my initial thought.
So, after Arthur's death Merlin obviously lives for centuries upon centuries afterwards. Which means that Merlin would not only have to live without Arthur, Merlin would not only have to outlive everyone he knows and loves, but Merlin will also have to outlive his own language.
Maybe its a subtle change at first, slang changes as it does every generation, slowly but surely sentence structures change, new invaders and travellers alike bring about exposure to other languages, which affects the vocabulary, the sentence structure, the spelling, the pronunciation.
Merlin has to live day by day watching helplessly as time gives his native language a slow and painful death.
And maybe Merlin forgets how to speak it, he has no one to speak it with, so eventually he grows used to not speaking it, only to realise one day maybe centuries later that the language he was fluent in, the language he grew up with is no longer on the tip of his tongue.
Maybe he can only remember certain words or phonetics, their meanings confused by the ticking passage of time. And perhaps Merlin breaks down sobbing in agony because his language, the last thing that connected him to Arthur and his past, feels foreign to him now.
But it gets worse; Merlin knows that Arthur will rise from the lake one day, and he has to live with that knowledge knowing that when he does, they won't be able to understand each other.

people seeing gifs of the 15th doctor having gay little moments and going "ohh what's this show? i gotta watch it" is literally ending me not just coz of the concept that anyone can be unaware of doctor who but also bc like. while i do think it's a show ppl should watch in its entirety. DON'T DO IT FOR GAY REP LMAO. like it literally does have a lot of lgbt rep even all the way back in season 1 of 2005 fame but watching 13 seasons of doctor who coz something gay happens in the new eps is like. idk finding out there's a new pride and prejudice adaptation with a gay character in it and going ohhhh that sounds fun:) guess i'll go watch every adaptation ever made

Okay three people (@manesetgalaxies @back-in-the-rabbit-hole and @hisuian-history-makers Thank you all) gave me permission to ramble about the Timeless Child plotline so here is an undrafted rant about it
Personally, I do not hate it like others tend to, for a start. Yes, of course, when the doctor was simply a mad-man, below-average timelord with a broken blue box, they were more of an under dog, but doesn't it mean more for their species if they were spawned from them?
The fall of Gallifrey and, with it, the fall of the Time Lords. Heartbreaking when the Doctor could have saved them, but more so when they, inadvertently, of course, caused all the pain. Without the Doctor there would be no Time Lords, no Time War and no 2.7 billion children facing their deaths. At least, not on Gallifrey that day.
To consider what it means not just to the Doctor but to the Master. He fell witness to this tale and in response committed undeniable genocide. All because the Doctor was right. They were better than him, even as children, chasing through the streets of Gallifrey.
Fewer questions answered than posed, perhaps, I will give them that. Just how many lifetimes had Tecteun robbed them of? How many friends and companions forgotten?
Though it undoubtedly makes the Forced Regeneration plotline more meaningful, afterall, isn't that just what Tecteun put them through? Thousands, perhaps millions of times? The Master, in full knowledge of this fact, chose this honoured punishment for maximum heartache, I suppose.
I, personally, think it was important that the Doctor be known as more than a Time Lord or an enemy or an ally. Over four billion years they've lived, I think it's worth being the first of something. The first and greatest Time Lord. The best kept secret.
Regardless, we can either spend another sixty years with the same daleks and cybermen and weeping angels, or we can enjoy the show as it develops for itself.
Simple proof that in all time and space, the Doctor lives, somewhere.
I enjoy the Timeless Child plotline because I think it represents all the opportunity in the universe. All that's left for the Doctor to pursue.
And anyway, no one wanted them to stop after 12 lives so don't kid yourselves.

Uhhh my ghosts thoughts
Spoilers under the cut but
TLDR: I enjoyed parts of it but was underwhelmed as a whole. It was a nice episode but fails to reach the heights of season 3
First I will say, I was happy while watching the episode I enjoyed lots of things.
Seeing the ghosts, Mike and Alison with the baby was wonderful. Really lovely. Mia is a lovely name and they really are great parents.
I would have liked more ghosts backseat parenting as a whole. Might have driven home the need for Alison to get away from them, rather than lady button needing to let Alison breathe. That or there being a bigger B-plot. Robin as the character who doesn't feel Christmassy feels eh, if there wasn't a bigger pay off than a speech about them moving on then maybe.
Kitty should have been the character. It would have been a lovely period of growth, and almost like a growing up type thing. Kitty grew up enough that she is ready to let Alison go.
They really missed the jokes in this episode. I maybe had two big laughs. Season 5 as a whole felt a lot less funny (other than En Francis.) like in the exorcism scene, when they realised they were going to be okay and it didn't work they should have made a joke.
I dont know if id ask for more ghosts in the episode. The show is Alison's and Mike's story. It's the Ghosts who are the supporting their story. They are the foundation and the last episode has to focus on them.
Finally the ending. Im fine with it. I think it's the right ending for the show. I don't know how else they could have ended it without making a massive swing or left it open ended (which would have been less complete)
Yes things are different and that's okay but they really should have constructed season 5 as a whole to support the ending. Yes it makes sense now the baby is here things are so different but my point is why then even make last resort? Why not make the episode end with the Julian reveal and speech still but don't introduce the idea of selling it in that episode. Maybe a line in A Christmas Gift about an offer to sell the house that Alison blows off saying "I don't think I could ever leave, I don't think the Ghosts would even let me" but as the episode builds we realise the ghosts have grown enough that they can face an afterlife without Alison always being a shout away. That like family it was time for her to leave the nest and grow as her own new family that still visits the old one.
It's my biggest issue with the episode. Also I really dislike the reaction fans are having to each other having differing opinions. Like don't directly sent hate to the creators (or even joke hate wtf) but also... Let people dislike it. Let people like it.
Anyway, a nice episode but as a final bow felt more of a whimper that turns into a yell rather than a standing ovation.

Watching through Merlin and the episode when they meet Mordred... Honestly fuck kilgarrah if he wasn't such a manipulative spiteful SOB only telling Merlin enough to get specific reactions then Mordred might not have turned against Arthur... He would have had no REASON to and destiny and prophecy is not absolute.
Also idk I like Gaius and I don't think he's evil but I think he's a coward and he's similarly to blame like kilgarrah for trying to manipulate circumstances to what best suits him and his s comfort/survival.
Merlin and Morgana should have shared their gifts from season one, even if they felt like keeping it a secret from Arthur to help him see magic as a blessing more naturally. Gaius chose to manipulate a strong, kind hearted young woman and told the similarly kind, immortal, all powerful boy who came to him for help into becoming enemies while everyone continued to spout the bs of "it's their fate"
Nah miss me with that
