i am thinking how much poorer, how much less colorful the world would be if art was only made by "professionals." if all the music, all the stories, all the sketches & paintings & craftwork of the world was created only by the small category of people able to make a decent living from their art. imagine if the only people allowed to create were the experts & the renowned & those aspiring to the top. what a grey world that would be. how much joy would be bleached away! i love you people who create for the sake of creating, i love you artists who do art for tiny audiences, i love you people who make things even just for one person, even just for themselves, even if no one's watching, thank you thank you thank you for decorating the world in which we all exist

I just wanted to ask how do you deal with liking a character when they have done atrocious, inhumane things. I've been an IWTV fan since last year and sometimes I find myself struggling with the morality of it all. When I find myself empathising with a character sometimes I can't help but think about the terrible things they have done.

I know they're fictional and the whole discourse around it but I wanted to know from you how you deal with the whole moral side of it?

There is no moral dilemma exploring dark topics in fiction. On the contrary, fiction has always been used to hold the mirror up on all but especially the ugly parts of humanity.

This is no different.

The characters go through it to hold the mirror up - and the show grabbed us by the neck to make us look.

That‘s all there is to it.

Early morning study sessions, corepower gym classes at 5 am, unhurried walks under the sun w laidback rnb, extensive skincare bc I need time to myself even on booked & busy days, cute fits & nails, keeping track of my multivitamins, putting more effort into phone calls w relatives, engrossing myself in days at my orgo lab or the neuro clinic, volunteering more and more at the refugee center, holding myself accountable, being more in touch w my feelings, getting better at staying in touch w friends, soft & moisturized curls, reading for fun even when my brain tells me I could be doing something productive…. i love how fraught and complicated discourse around various utena characters ‘dying’ is when anthy is literally stabbed to death eternally by a million swords imbued with human hatred. and then utena gets stabbed to death by them also. like. ‘death’ is incredibly interesting in rgu because most of the time it’s this ambiguous figurative thing that has interesting implications re: ohtori as a closed-off world one can escape. we are all trapped in our coffins. mamiya is the only named character with a grave. nemuro memorial hall functions as one all the same. ruka is implied to have died in the hospital— was he dead all along? who was the boy we saw for these two episodes? is this dead boy the same boy, or is this just another coincidence from the shadow girls, cutting like a knife? it’s heavily implied that akio and anthy murder kanae by poisoning her, adding to the previous implication that they were poisoning mr ohtori too, but there are no perceptible consequences of this. kanae’s absence is not felt. she’s fed an apple slice. what happens to the bodies? we know what happened to the 100 boys, but what about everyone else? and so on and so forth. ‘death’ is a tricky thing in utena, i think it’s constantly functioning on figurative and literal levels in very different ways for very different purposes. dios died. dios was dying. dios didn’t die. he grew up. etc etc

Solomon who uses the Necronomnomnom cookbook, (based off of The Necronomicon), for his recipes and takes it too literally rather than using the translated versions is the real reason why he’s bad at cooking.

FYI: the recipes are written to sort of “roleplay”along with the actual book, so the ingredients and steps are written oddly, as if it were an actual spell book/grimoire of some sort. There’s actual translations of the recipes in the back of the book that are normal :)

Also for the record my funniest but most useless headcanon is that the Dynasty has a unified theory of quantum gravity but also doesn't know what a hormone is. Meanwhile the Clovis Concord is building weather contraptions within the confines of Newtonian physics but also has a highly detailed understanding of biochemistry.

There's no reason for this except that it's very funny to think about what kinds of scientific research would never even register as a concern due to the reach of a region's most prominent arcane traditions.
