Visiting London for school so bought a bunch of books w friends (as we wanted English books).

I (Ari) got; Night Circus and Girl in Pieces (as they’re faves that I wanna annotate) as well as a Court of Thorns and Roses (which my friends picked for me as we were doing a book exchange). Started Twilight New Moon on pdf.

My bestie (S) got; Twilight New Moon, AGGGTM (book one- my fave/recommendation), the Atlas Sky and Win Lose Kill Die. She’s currently reading Circe which she got for her bday (along with the Reappearance of Rachel Price [which I got her so we can read it together {Holly Jackson’s my fave author}, me on kindle, her physical] and I think another?)

Another mate (B) got; (the original) Twilight, a Court of Thorns and Roses, a Court of Mist and Fury, Song of Achilles (our rec) and the Phantom of the Opera.

And the last member (M) of the bookworms crew got; Powerful, Reckless, Daughter of the Pirate King, the Songbird and the Heart of Stone and Caraval.

i'm back again with yet another paul hair appreciation post! i loved making it last year and so ive been thinking about it all year and collecting pics 🥰 last year i remember having to search really hard fo some of the pics – two weekends i even had only three pics 😭 but this year i've really had to kill my darlings because i've deleted so so many pics that i like just bcs i didn't want to make this too overwhelming... and i still ended up over 300 pictures..... 😶

sorry the censoring of one single letter in sexual violence is taking me out lmao but yeah sure! not sure if you’re asking for fiction or nonfiction recs but i can give a few for both. obviously blanket trigger warning for sexual violence in all of these

nonfiction:

screw consent: a better politics of sexual justice, by joseph j. fischel - it’s been a few years since i read this now, but it was the first text that really explicitly introduced me to alternative ways of thinking about sexual justice & helped me understand and think through some of the issues i had with the dominant models i was seeing

king kong theory, by virginie despentes - this is a pretty controversial text largely because of the way despentes treats sexual violence and sex work, but i found her analysis of sex work pretty useful. my main issue with this book is that even as despentes tries to develop a critique of the ways gender is socially constructed she herself falls back into bioessentialism quite a bit, which weakens her arguments significantly

texts after terror: rape, sexual violence, and the hebrew bible by rhiannon graybill - again been a few years since i read this & the topic is pretty specific, but i def recommend reading the intro & conclusion if u want another example of alternative models for thinking about sexual violence & justice

reading up on prison abolition also really changed the way i think about sexual justice; some starter texts on that topic i’d recommend are are prisons obsolete? by angela y. davis and the end of policing by alex s. vitale

fiction:

the feverwake duology, by victoria lee - i think this one is pretty easy to fit into a straightforward evil perpetrator/innocent victim model by the end if that’s how you read it, but the way lee explores some of the nuances and messiness of sexual violence really resonated with me and i personally think one of the strongest parts of this series is the fact that lee humanizes the ‘bad guy’ in many ways and pushes the reader to sympathize with him at various points while still forcing the reader to confront the harm he’s clearly doing

mysterious skin, by scott heim - really excellent & gut-wrenching story about the aftermath of csa in which none of the victims fit neatly into narratives of innocence

a history of glitter and blood by hannah moskowitz - one of my fave books of all time about teenage sex workers trying to survive a war. v messy webs of sexuality & violence although i wouldn’t say sexual violence is quite as explicit thematically, it definitely undergirds the story

the captive prince series by c.s. pacat - heavy on the sexual violence in this one especially in the first book. but one of my fave fantasy series of all time largely bc i found the series as a whole to be a really lovely exploration of how/whether we can forgive forms of harm that are usually deemed unforgivable

bloodchild by octavia butler - this one is a short story with a very poignant exploration of sexual harm & family dynamics

FitPac/Hideduo It's the slow burn that does it for me weirdly, I just love how akward they can get. Also the nicknames, "My Brazilian boyfriend" Is top tier. Also the exchange of gifts make me happy, the roses and everything else. Their dynamic is also just one of my faves, they also like to flirt... yes...

Pissa/Deathduo Also ship this one either way (Platonic or Romantic, etc) They are literally them. The protector and fighter and his wet cat, ahhh love them. They also just have a relationship that gives 'It's ok to kiss the homies' to me, in a 'It's ok to kiss your platonic egg co-parent' kinda way. I love the respect also, and the nicknames, and the parenting style, and basicly everything abt them.

Cucuhalo/Surveyduo This one is more due to recent events, and has not been up in the ranks for very long for me. They give red flags, they are red flags. The deffinition of 'walking red flags' and I love that. Bad is so oblivious to any form of fliratious activity, and just lables it as normal friend talk. And Cucurucho is just Cucurucho, he's always watching, always there, and get's mad when Bad doesn't give him flowers on date night.

I'll prob continue this after school tmmr, if you guys couldn't tell... I'm very eepy :'D, you can tell when I use a lot of abbreviations [more than normal]

Hi! 💕 Thank you so much. This is exciting. I’m flattered as heck but jeepers, a little underqualified. So, good news - I consulted a few friends for this, too.

Engage with the community early and often – writers, artists, anyone. Even if it seems like they’ve formed a solid community, there are likely still people joining or else it would die out.

Everyone loves to get feedback on their fics, so this is a good entry point. Comments, reblogs, thoughtful asks. If you have the time and interest, maybe a little fic mood board to slide into someone’s inbox. Tag games, etc. Have perseverance. It can be scary to put yourself out there socially, but this part can’t be any scarier than putting your fics out there, can it?

Become a “regular” on your favorite blogs, and you’ll start getting recognized. This will mean when you post your fic, there will be some name recognition, and they may think “Oh, she loves [fave writer], so we have common interests” *open fic*. Hopefully, you'll also get support from your favorite writers if you engage. It doesn't matter how "popular" someone is, they (most?) still notice and connect with regulars. I’ve had many readers turn into writers and am thrilled to support them. 

Accepting asks/fic requests is a fantastic way to build connections and have things to talk about. Submitting requests, too.

Pay attention to the fandom tags and how they are used.

They’d do each other’s hair and nails and makeup, and maybe even dress up, and gossip back and forth. They still do it as teens, but less as a tradition and more as a major form of sibling support. Some douche broke Heidi’s heart? Howard’s doing her nails w cute little designs on each finger. Howard got into a bad fight w their mom? Heidi is giving him a full glam face of makeup.

On the subject of her relationship w Howard (oh, you thought u could go a whole post of mine with just one Howard mention?) — they’re not friends, not by a long shot, BUT on some level they respect one another. I like to think Heidi admires Howard’s ability to not care what ppl think of him. She will never admit this, of course, and she shudders at the thought of being associated w him in public. But, yk, fair is fair because Howard thinks she’s kind of a freak. He does, however, respect her commitment and crowd skills

Their gossip goes CRAZYYY like ofc they had fun conversations as kids, but as teens? They trade dirt abt Norrisvillians back and forth trying to see who has the craziest insider knowledge. It’s awesome and terrifying to witness

In any timeline where she is not the in-universe equivalent of Markiplier, she has a Master’s in Public Relations and probably owns her own PR firm

This is really funny bc yes to both and literally in the same order 😭 Kyoya was my favorite when I had only watched fusion and that didn’t change getting back into mfb, but his character regression across the rest of the series definitely made him drop in my ranks a bit. When I was masters-ing really hard, I was going insane about Zeo and I was The Zeo Abyss Guy for a while, and I thought that’s how that’d stay. The first shogun steel watch through or two didn’t change my ranks (and actually Shinobu was originally my shogun steel fav), but then, at some point along the way, The Takanosuke Disease took over. And I would still consider him my #1 favorite, but with all the Sakyo insanity ive been having, I would say those two are both firmly tied for my #1 spot.

As for the ships, I guess if you wanna start way back, when I was little when I watched the show, I was obsessed with kyomado, and I do still adore them, but kyohyotsu quickly became my #1 upon getting back into it (technically I think it started with kyotsu and expanded but eh technicalities). Then with becoming The Zeo Abyss Guy, big into zeotoby for a while, and similarly to before, there was a period of time where takasakyo did not change my rankings at all (and they were in fact 2nd to zyronobu for a time) but now I am Insane about them (this is also omitting the fact that I actually was really hesitant to ship takasakyo romantically for a while bc most of the posts I had seen about them compared them and their dynamic really directly to kenta and ryuga and it made me uncomfortable ahshshs). So yeah <3 although I will add on that I don’t think kyohyotsu ever lowered in my ranks, it’s always also been #1 or at the very least a very close runner up, it just goes on the backburner most of the time now.

This is interesting bc I actually haven’t really thought abt this, surprisingly enough.

For Sakyo, I guess him wearing the item itself isn’t really a hc since it’s a part of his actual design, but part of my kurayami lore is that his belt was originally Ryoma’s and it brings him a level of comfort by being a physical tether he has to his father and his dragon side. Most of what I draw him in is like, form fitting sleeveless stuff based on his actual outfit and I imagine that’d be most comfortable and convenient for him given how active and flexible he is, though I do also enjoy putting him in a good hoodie bc I want him to be a silly comfy teenager <3

For Hyoma, my biggest thing is I imagine he is a big clothes stealer, especially from his partners. I like to think he takes a lot of stuff from Kyoya especially. There’s an idea I’ve had for 5ever that I don’t think I’ll ever get around to drawing but is basically just Hyoma with Kyoya’s necklace from his fusion/masters design asking him “hey do you ever wear this anymore?” and Kyoya responds “not really, no” and Hyoma just gives him The Look and after a beat of silence Kyoya’s like “OKAY FINE YOU CAN HAVE IT!” I think in general he likes having stuff from other people bc it makes him feel more connected to them and also helps when he’s lonely in koma

The first WIP called Black bird fly! It’s a Tim-centric time travel fix it where Mr Mxyzptlk sends Tim back in time, saving his life as thanks for when he, Kon and Bart helped him. Most of the chapters are gonna be in Tim’s POV, the time he lands in is gonna be about a day before Jason’s death, so Tim in all his feral ‘I’m probably dead so there won’t be any consequences’ flies to Ethiopia and saves Jason himself. There’s a lot of found family, a lot of grief/mourning surrounding the old timeline, and everyone in the new timeline being concerned by all the trauma symptoms he displays. I’ve finished the first two chapters and most of the third, but I haven’t begun posting yet because I want to finish more chapters so I can post once a week, because I don’t trust myself to not touch it for three months as soon as I start posting. The paragraph I shared was from the third chapter, where Bruce is flying Tim (asleep) back to Gotham on the batplane (he called Wally to get Jason to Leslie quick as possible). It’s my main WIP and the fic I spend most my writing time on, and I’ve daydreamed enough ‘backstory’ for Tim to write like seven multi-chapters set in the old timeline…

The second WIP doesn’t have an offical name, and the only one I’ve come up for it so far is Future days of death, not because it makes much sense regarding plot but because it sounds cool. It’s a crossover between DC and Fablehaven, because I recently finished reading Dragonwatch and the world building is giving me IDEAS. I have a LOT of different ideas as to where the plot goes, and I haven’t written a lot of it, but it’s largely Constantine and Captain Marvel (/Shazam) centric, with a good focus on batfam and the Fablehaven characters. The idea that sparked this WIP was Constantine being captured by the Sphinx and kept in his dungeon where he meets Bracken. I also have a vague idea where he convinces Seth not to heal the demon whose name I don’t know how to spell and the three of them escape the dungeon with all of the artefacts, but that doesn’t fit with my other ideas, which is mostly the JL thinking Constantine is dead and freaking out and Captain Marvel knowing Something Is Up. I also like to think Coulter and Alfred were old tea buddies, and I have ideas abt Constantine being magically put to sleep and Vanessa taking control and saving his life. I’m also tempted to make Seth and Kendra school friends with Kon so he has Tim investigate Kendra’s disappearance/death, which would be an interesting can of worms.

The third WIP is one I’m writing for the @/wipbigbang, a Tim-centric Coraline AU. It takes place right after Red Robin, and he finds the door to the other mother (other father in this case, the bedlam takes the form of Bruce) like his second day back in the manor. It’ll follow the plot of the book pretty closely. Lot of family angst and trust issues and stuff, and I will address Tim’s interaction with Nyssa al Ghul because if no one else does then I’ll do it myself. It’ll have more interactions with the family post-defeating the bedlam and will definitely have a happy ending. I haven’t written a whole lot of it and right now the paragraph I shared is probably my fave ‘cause of how funny I find it.

I feel like they'd be that kind of couple that are either like cat and dog and fight constantly and bicker and spit vitriol and no one knows why the fuck they're together because PATENTLY whatever this is isn't working (when actually no one *gets it* except the other and they have a strange and corrosive bond) or its just like. They just click. Theyre seamless with one another. there's a flow, an equilibrium, they both want the same things and can look at something and process it the same way. I think they'd be absolutely despicable together as Nobodies, Literally cataclysmic levels of insufferable cunt and snide violence and god poor Axel would never know peace. However I am very very much of the view that Any And All Nobody-based Romances are doomed to fail by the narrative so. Maybe it should be kept to a sordid little affair more than anything else. I'm a sucker for XemSai (as I'm sure everyone knows well by now) but I'm also a big sucker for LauriEven/MarVex and one of my big headcanons for the latter is that post kh3 when things have settled down, Lauriam and Isa hang out. Isa is friends with Even more than Lauriam but. I really really like the idea of Lauriam perhaps approaching Isa and just being normal around him? They go out on coffee runs and just talk, they meet up every so often to catch up, talk about how Lea and the kids are and how Radiant Garden is coming together again and yes the flowers here are so nice and I understand why you would want to live here and I Just! Really Like! Isa being a supportive character towards semi-dad-figure Even and now that everyone is cool and not wanting to murder each other Lauriam is actually really civil and dare he think it even good for dear old Even and Isa just kinda! Likes him! They become friends. Like friends with no baggage, no pressure, just hey if Isa swings around RG way again do you wanna get lunch and catch up? Theyre just normal guys now with a lot in common and a future ahead and its just comfortable having someone similar a phonecall away that is happy to listen and provide a fresh outlook on daily things, yknow?

I think. all the time. About a LauriEven marriage where Isa is asked at the reception to dance with them both because he's like. Even sees him as 'one of the kids he saw grow up' and they bonded over their work and they've always gotten along, surrogate son and dad relationship, and Lauriam, softened and approachable with his new heart just as Isa is, feels able to reach out and know that Isa is ever-reliable and genuinely wants things to be better for everyone. I just think that they'd make really really nice like family-friends who platonically love and appreciate each other once they have hearts..... as Nobodies, maybe not so much ahsdgahskd

I know my take on isa is generally very soft and doting but just let me have this asdhaskjdj
