Venus Sign Observations- 011

Venus in Leo’s are those girls in hs you think “how early does she get up to get ready?” You rarely ever see this placement have ugly days they are all so well kept & usually smell incredible. The types to wear their hair in really trendy styles, wear designer outfits and perfumes. BIG on luxury. In a relationship they LOVE being shown off and given lots of attention and compliments. they also love when their partner begs for their attention.

Venus in Libras are really easy to impress lol, all you really have to be is semi attractive. My libra Venus friend every time we go out would be like “OMG THAT GUY IS SOOO CUTE” but say that about 15 other guys that day😂 the women can be VERY obsessed with the opposite sex. They are such flirty people.

Venus in Taurus gives conventional housewife vibes lol. They are into classic feminine hobbies such as sewing, cooking, making jewelry/ clothes, art. If you marry a women with this placement you hit the jackpot.

The women of this placement I notice are amazing lovers but tend to give it to usually terrible neglectful partners:( I’ve seen women with their placements bust their ass for men that barely give them the time of day.. y’all deserve a lot better than that.

Sagittarius Venus’s tend to date people who are a different ethnicity as them or date from foreign countries. They have a deep appreciation for culture and traveling. So they may also travel with their partner a lot. This is imo the most loyal Sagittarius placement. I’ve seen people be in relationships for years with this placement.

Cancer Venus’s are extremely sweet and nurturing in a relationship. Gives Mommy vibes 🥺. The types to bring you home cooked meals get your bath water running. 💚Astro Observations my friend and I came up with while high💚 (Also Cause it’s 420)

💚I find that Moon signs don’t necessarily fit into their “descriptions” because it’s not who they are per se but rather what they desire when they’re feeling vulnerable and emotional. 

💚 For example, Capricorn Moons aren’t cold, distant and always practical, however, they do desire a more action based kind of support. Rumination and “talking about it” won’t cut it if they don’t have an action plan or something solid (or someone that they considered to be as such) to guide them. 

💚 Another example, Leo Moons aren’t attention seeking but rather they desire to feel seen and heard. They want someone that can understand what they have a hard time expressing, something very troubling for a Leo. They also find themselves able to be more open with people that are authentic about how they feel and their expression, be it verbal or artistic. 

💚 Despite people calling them flighty, Air placements are usually logical and based in reality. They may exaggerate or get too excited but they never pull shit out of vapor or believe it “just because”. Debating them is not for the weak. Not because they’re strongheaded (not always) but because they know what they’re talking about.

💚Earth placements are great liars, cause no one ever suspects them. A good liar is never known as such, hell they make a good living out of it. (Not calling people snakes or fake just that they don’t do something half assed, including the art of deception)

I've actually painted a whole lot this year, it was tricky to pick 8! These all either represent specific projects or events, and I definitely feel myself having improved across them!

It definitely feels like I have found (and stayed true to) my sense of aesthetic this year. My minis stay ready for fashionable violence in a glittering future.

A bonus shot of the board I put together for the shoot. I recently got the Tenfold Dungeons cyberpunk set, and it's charming! Sits well with the other cardboard scenery I have, and there's a toyetic nature I enjoy.

...Man it'd be cool to build small cyberpunk structures out of Lego for games. But that'd be so expensive...

Exploring Cyberpunk

Cyberpunk is a very unique genre, which is why so many people are both attracted to it and stumped when attempting to develop plots within an unknown world. Think of Black Mirror created by Charlie Brooker (TV show), Blade Runner written by Philip K. Dick (a movie based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, a classic Cyberpunk novel), Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan (modern Cyberpunk novel), etc. -- each of these were incredibly influential in their own right, but they all also build their worlds gradually while having a single easy-to-explain concept that can spawn an entire universe. To be more specific, each story establishes an issue created by an advanced society ignorantly abusing technology, then allow their characters to explore that problem and try to find a solution in a manner that isn't explicitly black or white for society as a whole, but every shade of grey.

For Black Mirror, each episode anthologically builds upon a high-tech future within the same universe and explores how its characters interact with problems created by new pieces of said technology, both good and bad.

For Blade Runner, the story establishes that androids seem to be malfunctioning, but the bounty hunter charged with hunting them down discovers that the true issue lies in society's understanding of what it means to be human.

For Altered Carbon, the novel explores the issue derived from the obscene length of time it would take for humans to travel between planets stretched across the universe, then dives into more detail regarding how a solution has been abused.

How to Construct a Cyberpunk Concept

What we'd recommend is to start by asking the right questions and looking in the right places. Black Mirror takes its inspiration from a variety of technology, both new and old; Blade Runner explores the idea of AI and androids during the 80's when robotics was on the forefront of innovation; Altered Carbon took note of our increasing ability to travel in an interstellar fashion, then posed a simple question regarding the limits of humanity (specifically, time).

This may sound strange, but the best thing you can do is seek out trends online and scientific journals about new breakthroughs, then ask questions about what may go wrong. For example, an old post we featured here on AUideas that has since been removed from ~2017 because it's in the process of being developed into a script (sorry guys, our bad!) called Dreamscape Co. uses this exact method. When the prompt was made, Admin M was in the process of reading a scientific journal about how neurologists had been able to project a person's thoughts into an image. Although the technology was rudimentary at the time, Admin M posed the question "if dreams can be viewed, what if dreams can be watched in real time with a high quality image? What if they could be immersive? What would that industry look like? Who would pay how much to see a certain person's dreams?" This spun out into a sweeping cyberpunk mini-series, yet came from a simple news article.

Some Cyberpunk Inspiration

When performing a quick search, some amazing ideas seemed to jump out from technology news headlines these past couple weeks alone:

Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal (FLC) Technology Being Used in 3D Displays

Unlike holograms, this technology uses liquid crystals that exhibit spontaneous polarization, meaning their orientation can be influenced by an electric field. They're high-speed, low-power, and have innumerable applications in the future. So, what could go wrong?

How could this technology impact the medical field? Although this may not be possible, consider what could occur if FLCs were injected into human bodies and influenced by electric fields to perform different tasks and functions, such as replacing an organ, attacking cancer cells, etc. How could such a technology be abused or go wrong? How many could die with a simple pulse, like an EMP?

Real-Life Freeze Ray Technology Created for the US Airforce

This technology hasn't been developed to be used as weaponry, but instead to replace large amounts of coolant that must be used on space and air crafts to prevent the machinery from overheating (coolant is heavy and can reduce efficiency yet is absolutely necessary due to the fact that space is a vacuum and therefore does not cool heat like air would on Earth). This "freeze ray" technology utilizes plasma's strange property that seems to break the second law of thermodynamics: it chills down when touching another object before heating up, which experts have proposed is because it vaporizes the ultra-thin layer of carbon and water on an object upon contact, similar to how water evaporates off your skin when stepping out of a pool. The question must be asked: how could such technology be used for not just utilitarian means, but outside of the Airforce's intentions?

Perhaps the technology could be manipulated and over-chill an aircraft, or otherwise damage internal engineering.

Consider its potential applications here on Earth: what could benefit from being chilled with something light-weight and low-power? How could it be integrated into homes? What could be disastrously destroyed with such technology?

Breakthrough in Enhanced Geothermal Systems Technology May Completely Replace Carbon Energy Sources

Google and Fervo have successfully developed geothermal technology that has increased its efficiency and broke records by changing existing rock formations in the Earth's crust. For a natural geothermal energy system to produce electricity, it has to have the right amount of heat, fluid, and rock permeability -- these Goldilocks conditions can be difficult to find 'in the wild'. However, this new Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) targets the most-easily found aspect (rocks with high heat) then creates the necessary permeability artificially by drilling to the intended rock formation and injecting fluid to create fractures in the rock, achieving the necessary Goldilocks conditions. Sure, this may be carbon-free energy, but what would happen if this were employed on a mass scale?

When energy is prioritized by a high-tech society over food and water, how could citizens gain access to those resources?

What long-term effects could such a system have on the Earth as a whole? Could the ground become unstable? Maybe earthquakes crumble city after city? Maybe the entire Earth's crust loses its integrity and disintegrates, pulling only a lucky few deep underground and forcing them to survive off the left over fluid injected into the Earth's crust and whatever they can find.

Closing Thoughts

As you can see from above, there's a crazy amount of inspiration that can be drawn from current technology events. What's important to remember is that yes, we've been talking about complicated technology, but only you have to understand how it functions in your universe down to the molecule, not your audience. Deep technology topics can be dry to a certain extent, and over-explaining your world can be damaging to your story. Explanations regarding how technology works in each of the stories we discussed is limited for that same reason (Black Mirror's overarching concepts, specifics about how Blade Runner's Replicant technology are rarely discussed, etc.). Leave some mystery surrounding how your cyberpunk world functions and allow how your characters room to breathe and interact with that world -- it can speak for itself. Your audience may first love the idea behind your story, but what they'll remember and relate to is how your protagonists and antagonists suffer and prevail within your universe.

Every baby that is born undergoes genetic testing to see which genes are expressed.

In the beginning, the OCA tried creating test tube babies that were genetically engineered to have 2 or more expressed elements, but since the DNA was not set like in older birthed babies, the DNA would often unravel and reject non-compatible bases.

Over time, those who survived having two expressed elements underwent “gene activation” in which 2 or more elements would be expressed, however, they would be more susceptible to developing physical mutation.

The ‘Zodiacs’

When genetically modified Deviants are created, depending on which elements are expressed, will undergo physical mutations such as:

glowing windpipes and coughing up cinders for fire elements

cold to the touch with skin feeling like cracking ice for water elements,

bones cracking and swiveling unnaturally with deformed skeletal structures and crystals growing in their pores for earth elements,

ghostly skin with shifting voices from whispering to booming roars for wind elements

Adrian is colder to the touch compared to other fire Deviants, which forces him to bundle up more than others. He would be extremely cold like other water Deviants, but since he hasn’t used his water powers as much, he’s not as affected. Because he’s used his fire powers so much in the past, his throat has started to become affected to where he prefers staying quiet and talks only when necessary.

Why big post about Aries in Aquarius season 😫 do one for Aquarius please

Hello dear,

It's because I need order.. if I don't have it I end up doing nothing, LOL. But I stopped to think and did something else... (okay, the Pisces Season just started, but whatever 😆). There's an old post of mine that I gave a good rework, I hope you like the new version.

They have free and unitary thinking - Even though they are the sign of the community, we cannot forget that Aquarius is the FIXED air sign, in addition to having been ruled by Saturn for many (MANY) years, so it understands that the community exists , but that there must be space between the self and the world. In this, in this space that Aquarians create between themselves and each other, what is most affected is their mind and consequently their worldview, this means that everything that passes through this person's mind first passes through their Aquarian lens, which changes all the information they receive by sharing their experiences and learning. Got confused? So let's go. The Aquarius man (or woman... or others) is that person who will listen to something and say something completely different, not because he is crazy, but because that said “something” triggers a series of experiences that these people have already had making A equals B for them… even if only in the mind, that's why weird dots get connect and it's not possible to control the Aquarian's reasoning.

They like the different - Wow, that's obvious Julia (← that's my name, okay), but it's true when we say that they are attracted to the different for simply being different, whether in fashion or in ideas, they will look for different plastic artists , clothing brands… Aquarians, however, will settle for something some time in their life. Once they are older,they have a more specific taste and that will accompany them for the rest of their lives, this could be a color, a band, a haircut… And this taste of theirs can even become a trend for a while, but when it doesn't, they'll still like it.

They are stylish - It is in my humble experience, women mostly. First, let's remember what the word style really means :“set of trends, tastes, characteristic ways of behavior of an individual or group”, that is, it is not what is in fashion. Having an Aquarius friend is seeing a piece of clothing and knowing it's going to like it because it's just like them. As I said before, they have a specific taste, even more so when they get older (young aquarius are still testing everything). At the beginning of their lives they do things to really shock, combining adolescence with Aquarian rebelliousness reminds me, and a lot, of the cyberpunk style, but after a while, they can continue wearing their Mohawks until they are 70 years old or simply, being in love with a cardigan, but you know THAT cardigan from your aquarius friend.

They have a creative mind - A creative mind in my view is one that will find a way to express their feelings, their soul in some way, so it's not surprising to see an Aquarius working in the arts or in more everyday jobs such as hairdresser and makeup artist. Aquarius have a taste for creativity, they have an artist's soul and the need for creation, you won't see every Aquarius with a watermelon around their neck, but maybe, when you go to see the character customization of one of their games, the character has hair green, purple mustache and orange vest (yes dad I'm talking about you)

They have a hidden side - They have something very similar to their former ruler partner Capricorn, which is separating the personal from the professional. They are one thing inside the house, another thing outside... but now this goes on to all other areas of their life, the emotional and personal of an Aquarius is hidden by their rational and social, the Aquarius will say what it believe to be the best for that moment, what it believe people need to hear and often leave their opinion aside, they do what they think will be more harmonious or what will bring more progress to their social bond. I've heard and read from several people (non-Aquarians)who see Aquarians as someone who likes to cause chaos and seek to "cause problem", but being honest, one of the greatest desires of Aquarians is to be accepted in society... do you think that they do this “by chance”? Or just to piss you off? You have a great ego, congratulations.

They give their best version - Out in the world, they always give their best, their brightest and most humanitarian side, but when they don't feel willing to be positive that day, they isolate themselves until they “return to normality”, soIt's super normal if your Aquarius friend doesn't see their cell phone for a while, they'll only answer you when they feel ready, not everything is ghosting ok.

They are selective - When you just meet an Aquarius it will talk deeply and a lot with you, but it's a test to know your commonalities and your character, if after that they don't have an affinity with you, you'll just be a colleague to greet, but you will not be their friend. Knowing this, yes, they are very annoying sometimes, even more so in societies where being extroverted is seen as a quality and being introverted is almost like a disease (I'm talking about you Brazil…), but they are there selecting what and who they will spend their energy on and many people will be left off the list.

“The Aquarius energy” - I see this energy as the energy of humanitarianism. When you went through the selection of the previous topic, you see that the Aquarius person likes to raise the mood of any situation, I see this through two methods, being them being logical with the solutions to problems or being able to see the positive side of everything that happens, no matter the way the have choose, they want to see their small group well and mostly together. I see a lot of aquarius people going to events and places they are not a fan of, but doing it because their group likes it a lot and they are happy about it.

They always want that person who doesn't care about them... - For some reason, they always fall in love with that person who isn't giving them the slightest bit of attention, that they need to put up a sign saying "I like you" to their crush knowing they exist.. Aquarians are romantic people, especially women, and they like a challenge, so for some reason the idea of earning their own lover and going against all negative possibilities is something that excites them.

They are connected to sounds - Remember when I said that they have different taste, are stylish and selective… This happens a lot with music. That person who lives with headphones listening to music, who doesn't drive without it radio... Probably Aquarius. I see many having a favorite band, others who like only one style of music, but Aquarians are people who have a soundtrack to their life and their senses are very involved in the sounds they hear.

They are terrible liars - You probably don't know this part, but one of the symbols of Aquarius is the titan Prometheus who, even if he got screwed afterwards, brought fire to humanity. One of the representations of fire is truth, it is stepping out of the darkness and knowing what is real and that spark runs through all Aquarians. And well... the lie is the opposite of the truth, so people who are always looking for the truth don't end up becoming a good liar. I'm not going to say they don't lie, I do (and I'm an Aquarius) but they tend to blurt out what they really think rather than blurt out a lie that they end up screwing themselves over it. The biggest part of not being able to lie is not being able to lie to themselves, they can't deceive themselves to do something they don't like for example, because their nature does not allow them to do what they don't think is right. Also, they are good at detecting lies too..

They joke about everything - You know that person who makes an uncomfortable joke in the middle of a tense situation?…Nice to meet you, Aquarius. Many will be surprised and even irritated with them, and yes, over the years many Aquarians learn not to make jokes with people they don't know... but they are the kings of sarcasm, that's why they always put a joke in the middle of a tense situation.

They love to question - They are very curious and can't see an opportunity to learn more passing in front of them, so if they have the openness to ask and delve into the subject... they will ask and delve further into the subject... it is also a great strategy for them to strike up conversations and get closer.. so pay attention to this if you're into an Aquarius person.

They love change - Aquarius is a free spirit and air sign, so they don't like to put down roots and always change a little behavior to have a new routine, a new job or even go to a new country…. But we also cannot forget its fixed nature and its regencies. Being from Uranus, they always want to see new things quickly, for the world to change as quickly as possible, after all, chaos is the spark of creation, and with Saturn… they love change, but mostly in others, when others change to do something, because many times the Aquarius wants to continue doing the same and the make the other moves the gears of transformation.

They are liberal - Are they judgmental of others' behavior and beliefs? Yes. But for them. “Is this person's belief good for me?”, it turned out, what the other does (which is not illegal) is the other's problem. You'll see them in many different social groups, not wanting to change anyone's opinion if no one asked and will let you have your way... just don't forget that the Aquarius won't change them for you either.

They seek positivism - Aquarius always seeks to make the best of the situation and people, so they will always see the reason for what happened from the other's point of view and will place less blame on the shoulders of others, things happen because they have to happen, they don't always have a culprit.

They know how to take criticism - If you got a "no" from an Aquarius when criticizing them it was for two reasons, either you haven't known them for a long time or they don't see you as an authority on the subject, Aquarius knows that others will be able to see details they don't understand and seek help from those they trust for advice, especially in the field of love. Yes, we know that sometimes it is necessary to be more humble and accept the opinion of people that we see as laymen... but it is difficult LOL

They are magical beings - They have a different energy, they try to connect with the spiritual and with nature in some way because they feel the need to clean themselves from human connections from time to time, they are very affected by other people's energy, that's why they resort to various spiritual practices and alone time.

Magic hands - This is certainly the most curious one, Aquarians are tactile and touch sensitive people, so they have a lot of energy in their hands and can develop techniques like reiki and massage very easily and they are nice about it. Now can you understand a little why they hate agglomerations and hugging and kissing people?

Do ya have any tips on character design and fashion? Like how to make them stand out, or fit with a style, etc etc

When it comes to fashion I think it helps if you know a specific named style that you’re going for like lolita or cyberpunk, but if you’re unsure then you should think about the setting the character will be in, what’s their job/purpose, etc and go from there. Then look up references for said style (I personally like to use Pinterest).

And the great thing about character design is that none of it has to be realistic so don’t be hesitant to accessorize and put them in more wacky, trendy hairstyles and clothing. Usually my main goal when designing character outfits is to convey hints about the character’s personality or job through them so I rely a lot on symbols or personal affects.

Another thing I do is use shape language. Like say for example if the character is meant to be really strong or prickly I usually make their silhouette more bulky on top and include a lot of triangular shapes in their designs to convey that. As for color - if you’re a beginner you can always use the tried and true method of Pokémon color typing lmao and once you’ve got the grasp of that you can play around with it! :) Oh and don’t forget posing is also important when displaying your character!! I’m not saying that you have to do dynamic complicated poses every time but focus more on their posture like open body language vs tense shoulders.

If Valerie Locke played video games (I assume she's too busy with work to waste time on "frivolous" hobbies maybe I'm wrong) what kind of video games would she enjoy?

Ooh, what an interesting question! Thanks for asking it! I will now proceed to write about it for way too long.

Well, as for whether she would play video games in the first place, she's definitely got nothing against activities that exist "just for fun". She's actually highly pro-fun, it's just that her job is what's fun for her. She's on record stating that she doesn't understand reluctant corpos because if working for Arasaka didn't strike her as the best thing she could be doing with her life, she just wouldn't do it. And she's not lying either. She's highly selfish, and she thinks that having a life you personally enjoy should be your #1 priority. What she enjoys is working for Arasaka.

Also, the way I think of it, her job is actually almost nothing like a real-life office job, which tends to lean towards being serious & boring. She's essentially a super spy in a high-tech sci-fi setting. It's the kind of job an 8-year-old would list as their dream job. Right up there with "racecar driver". It's exciting & high stakes. Yes, this is more true of the field work (and she actually prefers field work to a desk job, and always does more fieldwork than she really "should" for her position), but even the desk job is still high-risk & mentally stimulating.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that although she's highly loyal, hard-working, and dedicated, she's not driven by a sense of duty. She's 100% driven by enthusiasm.

Anyway, onto the topic of video games finally.

First of all, I think the video games that exist in the Cyberpunk 2077 setting would have a lot more practical applications than real life video games because they're almost all VR that is played directly in your brain. Like, yes, we see old-fashioned video games can still be accessed in the world, but it seems like what's most popular is the virtuos. So essentially when you play a video game, you feel like you're actually living that experience. So of course they're going to be used for training exercises anyway, such as the Militech training virtuo that T-Bug puts V through.

So, I definitely think that V would have experience with that type of video game, and I think it was a big part of the curriculum when she attended Arasaka Academy. She's got a line in some deleted content regarding it. (Deleted not because I don't like it, but just because it doesn't fit into that scene anymore.)

“Now, Arasaka Academy was completely different.” Just the memory of that time was enough to make [V] excited, and she found herself speaking faster and more insistently. “They definitely didn’t coddle us there. A lot of our combat training was in virtuos, so we couldn’t actually be damaged, but they didn’t filter out the pain. Need something to motivate you to avoid getting shot at, don’t you?"

Now, I do think as she gets older & gets funneled into an actual Arasaka job, she wouldn't spend as much time in training virtuos because she would be doing that same type of stuff in real life, but I could see her dusting one off the shelf to brush up on some useful skill she feels she hasn't been able to apply enough in real life lately.

Besides training applications, the other thing we see about virtuos in the game is using them to relieve other people's experiences as if they were your own. It's implied people largely use this to relive sex with someone really hot or to pretend to be a famous person, neither of which I think V would have any interest in because they're both far too mundane. But it's also implied you can experience what dying feels like or what it feels like to literally be a tiger hunting its prey. Rare experiences that you wouldn't be able to have in real life. That I think is something she'd be interested in, both because she really likes learning & because she craves novelty & excitement. Of course she'd limit her time in that type of virtuo because she'd know that overuse can cause you to start mistaking simulation for reality, but I think she'd find it fascinating & therefore would definitely occasionally partake.

Then the final application of video games I think she'd be interested in would be similar to the game you can play with River Ward and his niece & nephew. Basically just an action FPS in VR. I actually wrote out my version of that scene (in which V kicks the kids' asses at the game & then essentially tells them to git gud) before I decided that my V might not necessarily have a chance to meet River, and that if she does, it would likely be in really different circumstances. So it's currently cut content.

"You could've let them win, you know," River whispered to her as the four of them began their walk back to the house. The kids had run a little further ahead, with River and V lagging slightly behind. "You're kidding, right?" V responded, a little louder but still quiet enough that the kids, who were still chattering amongst each other, were unlikely to take notice. "Why would I be kidding?" "You're not doing them any favors by coddling them, you know," she stated in an off-hand manner. "Learning to lose gracefully is a valuable life skill." "V, they're eleven. You're an adult with actual weapons training." "Then they should learn to chose their opponents more carefully." V grinned at River and realized that he was watching her with a disapproving expression. She laughed curtly. "You really are serious, aren't you? River, honestly. Do you think they're really going to believe that they're able to beat an adult with actual weapons training at a shooting game? They're going to know you let them win. Either that, or you're helping them foster an illusion." "What are you talking about?" Monique asked River, as she and her brother fell back towards the two of them. "Nothing, Mon," River replied in a measured tone. "Don't worry about it." "Nothing at all," V added, shaking her head dismissively.

So anyway, I do think that V would enjoy kicking other people's asses at shooting games or other action games as well.

Anyway, now that I've written way too much about this topic, it's probably time for me to stop.😅

so i feel like garbage yay

this cold is one of them deep head congestion colds and i just feel lethargic and gross

and im very VERY cranky because i got sick from a goddamn trip i didn't want to take in the first place and there's shit i need to do (like go to the post office to get my forwarding address changed because i can't do it online because USPS is garbage) and now cant

i also really wanted to walk up to the little entertainment district thingy near us and have fun with the husbando this weekend but nope can't do that now either

but you know WHATEVER what's done is done

but on the lighter side of things, the new updates for cyberpunk look like a lot of fun and i love the emphasis on, like, rp immersion with the ncart system and personal radio. one of the things that's kept me in the game for so long is just exploring night city and taking it all in so having yet another way to do that is very exciting

and the motorcycle overhauls!!!!!!! doing wheelies is one of the best things about riding bikes in games IM SO GLAD THEY FINALLY ADDED THAT

also just paid rent today which normally would not be a good/exciting thing, but it was so nice to see a much lower number there than what we'd been paying for the past few years. and for a place that suits us much better, too

and i think we should be getting our new couch today which I'm sososo hyped about. we got rid of the ones we had a little over a year ago bc they were really cheap and made from that shitty vinyl material that started cracking and flaking everywhere, and replacing them was just a really low priority since the old living room had basically become husbando's office/man cave during the height of the pandemic.

but now we have a proper living room again! and I've always wanted a couch that has a chaise lounge piece (since in true bisexual fashion i can't sit normally and need plenty of flopping space) which is what we got. so i guess if i nothing else this weekend, i can enjoy cuddling with my cats on our new couch :3

I need to talk about what happened last night in my cyberpunk red game because it was Crazy (long rambling post incoming)

Context: the party is a team of bounty hunters, finally closing in on our target, a mysterious murderer who has been leaving a trail of bodies across this district. We've discovered a connection to an underground fighting ring and reasoned that we can lure him into revealing himself if we present an enticing enough fighter as a challenge

Enter BR-549: a heavily augmented man filled with just as much trauma, decked out with weapons and an outfit designed to make him look imposing. His role in game is the Solo, which means he has many abilities geared towards fighting, a big pool of hit points, and is all around the obvious best choice to send into the ring

Enter my character: Glimmer ✨, a former fashion influencer recently turned true crime investigative reporter. Her intended contribution this session was mostly picking out everyone's outfits because, as a Media role, she primarily has socially focused skills. But. A girl has to protect herself right? So she also has a very high martial arts skill and an evasion as good as BR's (this will be important later). On top of that she recently picked up some karma, a homebrew miraculous material that can, among many other things, be mentally controlled to power up attacks (+1 to damage)

This all means nothing I'm sure

So the party gets to the scrapyard in which this fighting ring takes place and, not too surprisingly, discover we will need to prove ourselves competent fighters to be allowed entry. Things shake out so that BR and Glimmer go down into the pit to duke it out and hype up BR for the crowd. We pick out weapons beforehand, all sportsmanlike, and BR goes in with his baton and Glimmer goes in with a layer of glittering karma around her fists

The way fights in this arena work is there are five stones scattered around the pit. Cover a stone with your opponent's blood (mechanically, do enough damage close enough to a stone in one round) and a point is yours. Get three points and you win the match

Round 1: the other player and I decide to roll initiative each round to keep things spicy, but BR's is ofc better than Glimmer's so he goes first. Fairly standard turn choice, swings twice and gets a decent amount of damage in. Glimmer strafes around to be as far from the stones as she can and still attack, swings twice...and hits for more damage. Which means more blood on the stone

The ref calls 1 Point for Glimmer

Round 2: everyone is taken aback at how the last round went and I'm just happy I had a good showing. BR goes first again and backs up to another stone to hold his attacks. His player knows Glimmer's ranged attacks (throwing karma pellets) aren't as good as her melee and she wants to draw her to an unbloody stone. I decide I will not be baited and try to blast him anyway. I fail, but BR's turn is wasted, so the round is a draw

Round 3: wanting him to seem cool, BR's player has him try to rip away control of Glimmer's karma instead of outright attacking. While very close he does fail the opposed roll, so she has him move further away out of Glimmer's movement range. I could try again with the ranged attacks (proven to be risky and lowers my karma amount) or switch the karma into a shield (potentially useful but a waste if he just steals it next turn). Instead Glimmer moves to the center of the ring, shouts to the crowd that he's a coward for running, and holds her attacks. The round ends with no blood drawn

Round 4: this round starts slow with BR moving in, prompting some small hits from Glimmer and dealing a bit of damage in return. Then Glimmer's actual turn begins

Here is where I need to explain how crits work in the Cyberpunk Red system. Damage is rolled with d6s and the more powerful you are or the stronger your weapon the more dice you roll. To get a crit you need to roll two 6s, regardless of how many damage dice you get. This is a benefit of using stronger weapons; you reduce your rate of fire in return for a bigger damage pool and a higher chance for the crippling impact of crits

Based on her body score, Glimmer's martial arts attacks do 2d6 damage, which means it's extremely unlikely that she would crit...except on her second attack she does and when we roll on the crit table we find out that she broke BR's leg

Needless to say, the ref calls 2 Points for Glimmer

Round 5: We Are All Shook, and then BR rolls so bad on initiative Glimmer goes first! At this point I know I should back off, but the plan of making BR look powerful is pretty well fucked already and I can't pass up the badass opportunity I've been handed. Glimmer continues to attack and misses once, so I have her kick him and then walk away—BR's movement is reduced by 4 due to the leg, meaning he can't catch up to her. He shuffles after, on the brink of a full cyberpsychosis/PTSD meltdown, tries to steal the karma, and fails again. The kick didn't do much damage so the round is another draw

Round 6: BR is back to going first and his player and I have a quick ooc conversation over whether he wants to throw her into a stone or toss aside his baton and punch her to death. A throw would do a hefty amount of damage, but he would first have to grapple her and Glimmer's martial arts school lets her possibly break the arm of a grappler (we have delighted in this happening to enemies already). She decides to just have him punch and moves in to deal some hurt

The first attack misses by a mile. The second attack succeedes by just 2 points. In this system, you have a luck pool each session you can use to beef up rolls, and mine is a lot bigger than BR's. I spend it to make him miss again. It hasn't shown up yet, but Glimmer's martial arts school also lets her, if all melee attacks that turn miss, throw an attacker without grappling them first

To recap, Glimmer breaks BR's leg, walks away with a dismissive kick, then when he surges after to murder her grabs his arm and hurls him into the nearest stone

So uh, the ref calls 3 Points for Glimmer

And then BR continued to try to attack and Glimmer realized She Had Fucked Up and so had to run out of the pit to have our other party member talk him down and our entire plan of having the guy actually built for fighting draw out the killer was completely trashed but it was really really fucking cool and I will treasure the win forever 😊
