has Grian gotten hurt or yelled at by the other watchers? Do they do for punishment besides the apology thing you said before
I can’t imagine the Watchers physically hitting Grian for mistakes.. He might be belittled or patronized though. The Watchers are typically confident in their words, they want genuine loyalty out of a player (or fellow Watchers) and that’s best made by letting people convince themselves they’re wrong in some way. Hitting or yelling would only bring resistance or false submissiveness.
His typical mistakes are usually handled by forcing him to apologize. There’s not much he can get in big trouble for, at worst he is disobedient.
Aether, Grian’s primary Watcher, does let him get away with a lot, she can’t help it ! That’s her boy now ! She also just doesn’t like hard subjects, so if another, older, Watcher finds that Grian is too rebellious, and puts a binding enchantment on him so he can’t sleep, well.. well… !! Aether goes along with it, surely they know more than she does, she’s never had a child before, so she just encourages Grian to go apologize before it becomes too much. It’s easier this way, he’s not getting physically hurt, the mental anguish is easier to deal with than actual pain, it’ll be ok, and so easy to resolve ! (Grian’s confidence dwindles every time he is forced to apologize on the floor.)
Flora, Grian’s other Watcher, is more direct, I based her off the Watcher that locked his chests in Evo, so she’ll do things like, take his bedding, but also force him to watch what happens to deviated Watchers—a rare event, but a sight to see, they have their wings and eyes cut out, before being exiled into the void. (Thus creating Listeners but that’s not mentioned.)
Uhh, for other punishments tho… I imagine it just depends on what he does. Just like in Evo, if he’s greedy or steals, then he’d lose items or be locked out of his room, or something ? If he interacts with players directly when he’s not supposed to, then he loses world visit privileges.
Evo Grian was quick to fall in line after getting in trouble once, he apologized and then begged for attention, so I don’t imagine Watcher Grian getting into too much trouble anyway, he doesn’t really even have the resources to do so.
But they are vaguely catholic, you know how that goes, trouble over nothing sometimes.
The Watchers would be the type of parents to force you to sit at a table until you finish a meal you hate.

Those parent teachers conference must been awkward af, from IK's drawings
zhao tries to deflect like "oh she's very imaginative she loves telling little stories :)" while lucifer stares unblinkingly at the teacher the entire time
the teacher nervously points to one especially ferocious-looking drawing and starts "and she says that this is her father...i was just wondering if..." - and, without letting them finish, lucifer says "yes. that's right." and continues to stare at them
he isn't even trying to be intimidating, he's just antsy because it's his first time experiencing one of these events. when the teacher talks about how well she's doing in a particular class he starts smiling but it just frightens the teacher even more

Interesting character parallels in designs...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I shared a story on insta about some patterns I noticed in the designs of characters I like, one of which is based on their hairstyles covering one of their eyes; this can be usually be seen as a visual hint to their secrets/hidden lore, which then my wonderful mutual @//dorianbrightmusic noted that:
"It's always a combination of them having seen too much and them having something to hide from the common view - skeletons in the closet. The characters always seem to be leaving something supernatural and once beloved - for Volo, the celestica clan + heritage; for AZ, his royal power; Arven, his connection to the professors. The covered eye (almost) always symbolizes a change of life direction".
I told my mutual that I never thought about the having seen too much part before in relation to their designs. Subsequently, I added that all of these three characters are wearing pretty big and heavy bags/backpacks, which implicates the heavy weight of the burden they bear hidden from plain view both in literal and figurative terms. Additionally, two are shown with one hand grasping the straps, suggests, espeically once you learn their story, they cling earnestly to something of significant value they had lost/seek to find, or alternatively, not being able to let go of the past that haunts them.
Now, putting a quick disclaimer, this is just our interpretations and not some confirmed, "objective" statements and such.

mermaid!reader living in the seas of fontaine - drabbles ꒱࿐♡ ˚.*ೃ
Tumblr media
Obviously you are going to play and make friends with the Fontaine animals 🙄
They’re just too cute to ignore!
You would constantly collect seashells and other gadgets near the shore and show it off to the sea otters
Sunbathing with the Blubberbeasts are a MUST
Most of the seahorses follow you around to play bubbles with you
Playing hide and seek with the crabs
Since you are a curious fellow, you would always wondered what it be like to live on land
You almost got caught when fishermen decided to throw nets in the water
Luckily you escaped! :D
On occasions, you would sometimes either sleep on the warm, soft sand or the gigantic leaves
Cuddling with the otters when you nap
You almost freaked out when a diver had suddenly approached you when you were gathering seashells (it was Freminet)
Bro was shocked
Eventually, you two became besties, showing each other you favorite collections when you guys scavenge
There are many legends from Fontaine that there existed a lonely mermaid in the seas
Of course, only children believed that and not adults
When Aether and Paimon had first arrived to Fontaine, they saw a head poking out of the water before popping back
Aether was VERY confused
“Aether? Are you okay?” Paimon was little worried when she saw the Traveler looking out into the distance.
“I thought I saw…” Aether muttered before he soon noticed a woman adorned with cat ears looking out into the ocean.
Shortly after, Aether soon gained Hydro powers and decided to investigate the strange occurrence as soon as possible
You didn’t expect a human with no diving suit deciding to jump into the water (you almost screamed)
Aether was taken aghast when he saw a FREAKING MERMAID
You cautiously swam around him, your eyes scanning his body and the outworldly clothes he wore
Aether thought you were really pretty, especially your tail
Sensing he was no threat, you decided to give him a tour of the seas!
Aether had to keep up because you were swimming too fast (curse his human legs…)
Part 2? When you meet other characters? :)

Πορφυροβάφοι
“Yess…” Malefor chuckled, placing his paws on the ground around the Well of Souls.
At last, he had returned. His spirit had been trapped within Convexity, his body turned to a wisp – but the Ancestors had not been able to stomach truly killing him, and now on the darkest night of all he had returned.
“Good work… Cynder,” he added, turning to the small form of his young servant. “You have done well.”
“Dark Master,” Cynder bowed.
“We worked hard to bring you back,” Gaul said. “I worked hard to bring you back. I managed to overcome Cynder’s… reluctance.”
“Oh, I am quite aware of Cynder’s reluctance,” Malefor said, with a dark chuckle. “But there was nothing she could do about it, after all. She was fated to be my servant… while you, Gaul, have a different fate.”
Gaul frowned, and Malefor turned – his expression sly.
“Yes,” he said. “You have a different fate before you, Gaul, and there is nothing much else that needs to be said about it. Your goal is to rule the world, is it not?”
“Yes,” Gaul echoed. “Yes! That is the promise that you gave to the Apes!”
“Indeed it was,” Malefor said. “But, of course… that means that your fate is to challenge me, and your fate is thus to be defeated.”
His wings glowed as he summoned his power – the true, terrible energy of a Purple Dragon, the might that could remake the world, destroy destiny itself, make elements all anew.
The power that had scared the Ancestors so.
“Wait – I don’t-” Gaul began, backing away in sudden apprehension, then Malefor unleashed a burst of power, of an element that no other dragon had ever possessed.
The element of decay.
It struck Gaul, and burned him up, turning him into a skeleton animated only by shadows of ambition forever unsatisfied. And, through him, all the Apes. Every last one of Gaul’s minions, from the greatest to the least.
They would know fear, and pain, and they would remain in shadow, forever denied the light of the day.
Malefor was… harsh, but not cruel. He would not deny them continued existence, to accept the eternal night that they had always wanted.
“What now?” Cynder asked, as Gaul fled, to hide forever in the shadows and darkness.
“Now… we have a world to destroy,” Malefor replied. “But first… we have a purple dragon to deal with. Spyro has shown himself a coward… or merely incapable… by not coming here, and trying to stop Gaul himself. But we will have to stop him soon enough, regardless of where he hides.”
“We will?” Cynder said.
“Yes,” Malefor confirmed. “Because… the whelp is dangerous, if he ever gets time to get his paws under him, to get control of his powers. A purple dragon’s power is versatile, we can create whatever elements we wish – even grant them to others, or pull them out of a dragon who does not deserve them, though I don’t believe such a thing would be permanent… but perhaps it would be. For a purple dragon’s power is also immense.”
He chuckled. “Perhaps even – limitless, though who can truly say? Those old fools who used to teach me said that purple dragons could do anything, and then they fought so hard against me when I tried to do something. Something worthy of the awesome import of a purple dragon, breaker of destinies, master of elements, shatterer of worlds.”
Then Malefor paused, raising a claw to his chin. “Now, there’s an idea…”
“Purple dragons can do all that?” Cynder asked. “I didn’t realize…”
Her tail waved slightly from side to side.
“You see why it is so important to stop Spyro – or, if possible, get him to understand the truth,” Malefor replied. “But – come, Cynder. There are armies to be mustered – lands to be overrun. I must control much of the world, and I will require months of effort to ready my plan. This phase of the world will be brought to destruction, and I will shape the new form it will have.”
He raised an eyebrow. “You see? Gaul could never understand such complete domination over all that exists. Not merely to conquer, but to remake.”
“I understand,” Cynder told him, though much of her attention seemed to be on her paw.
“Fret not,” Malefor said. “I will return you to being the Terror of the Skies in a moment, Cynder. After all… it is your destiny to serve me.”
Cynder nodded, then closed her eyes.
She was saying something too quietly to hear, and Malefor leaned closer.
“...breaker of destinies,” she was whispering. “Master of elements. Pull them out of a dragon.”
“Yes, that is what I said,” Malefor agreed, slightly puzzled.
“Purple dragons can do anything,” Cynder went on, speaking a little more loudly now.
Then she planted her paw on the ground, and took a deep breath.
“Is it okay for me to say that I hate pirates?” Sparx asked. “Because I really hate pirates. And I’ve gotta say, man, I don’t like your habit of passing out all the time, either. It gets on my nerves.”
“The Chronicler had important things to tell me, Sparx,” Spyro replied.
“Oh, yeah, I’ve got to say I don’t think much of that guy either,” Sparx provided, helpfully. “Destiny this and elements that – you don’t think he could have maybe hurried it up a bit? Or not lived in such an out of the way place?”
“I have to admit, I’m worried,” Spyro admitted. “It took us so long to get there…”
He looked up at the Mountain of Malefor. “By now, the Dark Master might have returned. I just hope we’re not too-”
There was an incomprehensibly vast explosion of violent purple light, one which blew out the entire side of the mountain, and Spyro stared before yelping and ducking to the side.
Most of the explosion had been pointed about a quarter of the way around the mountain from them, but enough had come their way that he really needed to dodge – then, as the debris faded, Spyro stared.
There was – a giant purple dragon, with huge wings and horns, fighting in the ruins, lashing out with fire and ice and a kind of screaming reddish blast that was like a sonic attack from the Earth element but also not. And it – he, that was Malefor – was fighting a tiny spark that blazed with white-purple light so bright that it hurt Spyro’s eyes-
“-wait,” he and Sparx said at the same time.
“Is that Cynder!?” Sparx added. “What exactly is going on?”
“I don’t know,” Spyro replied, then he winced as Malefor scored a hit with a shard of ice the size of a building. Cynder hurtled towards them, then her wings flared and a swirl of wind exploded around her as she halted just short of crashing into them.
“-Spyro?” she said, incredulously, then Malefor hurled a chunk of rock at them that looked like it was almost as big as the Dragon Temple.
“Look out!” Spyro warned, and Cynder cut it in half with another of those incredible bursts of white-purple light.
“How did you do that?” Sparx demanded.
“I think Malefor made me a purple dragon by mistake,” Cynder said, very quickly. “Spyro – purple dragons can do anything, that means you can do this too – he wants to kill you – we need to stop him!”
Spyro looked at her, then at Malefor as the Dark Master approached them rapidly, then nodded.
“All right,” he said, and opened up with a burst of dozens of homing fireballs which hit Malefor in an overlapping cascade of explosions. Then he and Cynder had to dodge out of the way, in different directions, as Malefor countered with a wave of water like a tsunami.
“I’m… just going to hide over here,” Sparx provided, helpfully. “Behind the mountain. In case it helps.”

Mushy May Day 24
Acts of Friendship
Pairing; Rain/Aether
notes; pairing is used loosely because nothing romantic happens. thanks as always to @forlorn-crows for putting together the prompts!
Aether rubbed at his eyes before he ran his hand through his mohawk. It had been a long night in the infirmary, a batch of siblings running a muck with a combined food poisoning. Human vessels and their sensitive stomachs. That combined with the double he managed to pull yesterday, he was bone dead and exhausted. Unfortunately, his shift was nowhere near over, but Omega took over the physical aspects so he could get focused on the paperwork.
Right. Paperwork. He shook his head to get rid of the brain fuzz before getting right back into filling out patient and discharge forms, hand tangled in his hair and arm resting on the desk as he slumped forward. He had to order more supplies after, his brain unhelpfully provided, and the idea of staring at a screen with how his eyes burned did not bode well.
The door to his small office opened quietly, respectful enough to stay quiet but rebelling in coming in without knocking. He figured it was Omega there to drop off some more files to him and paid him no mind, his hand absentmindedly running through his greasy hair.
When Omega made no noise or movement, Aether finally glanced up. Instead of a bulky quint, he was met with a lithe water ghoul. He made a quiet, “oh,” and sat up straight, arm untangling from his head and folding in front of the other.
“What can I do you for, Rain?” Aether’s voice was monotone, tired. He stopped attempting to hide behind a facade ages ago when he found it made no difference whether he came off as cheery or dead; they all knew, no point in beating a dead horse.
“Just figured I’d check in on you.” Aether’s eyes caught the lunch bag Rain held between both hands, swinging it idly between them. Neither missed how his stomach growled at the sight, and Rain chuckled. “And to give you food, you beast.”
“Yes. Food.” Aether dropped his pen and made grabby hands towards Rain, the water ghoul hurrying over to place the bag on the desk. He was quick to dig through it, finding an assortment of food; a metal canister for soup, pasta, a couple bags of chips, meatballs, and a granola bar haphazardly thrown on top of it all. On the side of the bag was an energy drink, the one Dew stocks up on and rarely shares with.
“Oh Lords below,” Aether grabbed a bag of chips first and ripped it open, shoving a few into his mouth with a moan. Rain laughed harder and made themselves comfortable on top of his desk, away from the piles and mess.
“Dew figured you could use the extra ‘extra’ energy after yesterday.” Rain swung their feet idly as he shoveled the rest of the bag down his gullet. “The pasta and soup are leftovers from yesterday and today courtesy of Mountain and Aurora, the chips are from me, and the granola bar is from Swiss…” they frowned slightly, “I think.”
He held up a finger as he chewed, eyes closed in concentration and bliss. He swallowed hard and reached in for the pasta, ready for some real food.
“You all spoil me.” Aether beamed up at Rain, showing off his toothy grin, before getting right back to feasting. Rain shrugged a shoulder with a soft smile.
“Just keeping you on track, bud.” Rain’s eyes lit up and they leaned closer to Aether, a shark-fanged smirk adoring their features.
“You will not believe what Cue and Cirr were doing today.” Rain muttered quietly, just loud enough for only the two to hear. Gossip.
“I never believe what the two are doing.” Aether chipmunked his food and stabbed his fork into more. “But I am interested.”
“Okay, okay,” Rain started, “so you know about Papa’s personal garden…”
