*Alastair and Thomas saying goodbye before they separate for a mission*
Alastair: Please, be safe.
Matthew *gingerly pulls James's face towards him*: Please, be safe.
James *putting his hand over Matthew's*: I'll be safe. I'll be so safe for you.
Alastair, bright red: Stop that, stop. I'm gonna kill you.
Matthew and James: But how would that keep us safe?

what if the title “The Last King of Faerie” come from Thule!Kit
cuz in Thule the Seelie Queen was killed during the war and the Unseelie King united the courts and ruled Faerie, BUT what if he was killed and then Thule!Kit had to become the King of Faerie and maybe that’s where the title comes from or maybe not

The Mortal Instruments - Cassandra Clare
DISCLAIMER: These are my opinions. I do not mean harm - neither to the creator of this wonderful series, nor to the fandom and any of its followers. If you do not agree with my opinion, please do not engage merely to fight with me (I don't like it).
The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare is a mixed bag of brilliance and flaws, particularly when revisited with a more critical eye.
I'd started reading this during a reading slump, so the books seemed absolutely perfect - filled with fast-paced action, vivid world-building, and a character-driven plot that never felt dull. The relatable flaws of the characters, especially Clary's ideals and Jace's identity crisis arc, made them endearing (at least in the first four books).
The first three books stood out, reflecting Clare’s meticulous research and captivating writing style, which skillfully incorporated advanced vocabulary. These elements created a strong and powerful narrative that resonated deeply, making the books a joy to read (especially during a reading slump, when you want nothing serious).
Simon's character was sort of relatable as well, and Magnus and Alec's relationship was really sweet. Isabelle was fairly fine as a character (mind you, I'm only talking about the first three books) - so no qualms for any of them (they were written as well as they could have been written).
However, the series' latter half falters. The fourth book was fine, merely as a check-in on beloved characters, but by the fifth and sixth installments, the story had fallen apart. The writing style had lost it's grip on me.
Clary's transformation into a Mary Sue (reminiscent of Bella from Twilight), was particularly disappointing. Her character became obsessed with Jace, reducing her personality to just her relationship with him (you know those high-school couples that make dating their entire personality?). Additionally, Clare’s portrayal of Clary’s victim complex was frustrating; in every battle, Clary does so little yet ends up needing the most care - which felt unrealistic and annoying.
Sebastian was just straight-up psychopathic (which was great - I love psychopathic antagonists) but he should have remained dead, in my opinion. The Lilith plot-line was just an unnecessary appendage.
A significant shortcoming of the series is its superficial treatment of human emotions. Despite being a character-driven story, the emotional depth of characters like Clary and Jace is often glossed over. Their traumas are mentioned but never fully explored, making their reactions feel shallow and disconnected from their experiences. For instance, the death of Jordan Kyle, a close friend, is barely acknowledged, with the characters quickly moving on without much reflection or grief (literally they're like: oh, that's sad. Hey, those are funny, undersized pajamas!).
The series also became repetitive, with a recurring plot cycle involving Jace getting possessed -> shutting down/running away -> Clary attempting to "save" him (read: putting more people in danger).
This redundancy, coupled with the lack of emotional realism, made the latter books feel like a letdown. Ultimately, the series should have ended after the first three books - which delivered a powerful message about a neglectful government and a flawed revolution. The decision to extend the series only diluted its impact, turning it into a disappointing follow-up to an initially strong start.
Yeah, I don't think I'll read the rest of the Shadowhunters mega-series
-X-
Trying books reviews for the first time! Yay! Any thoughts?

The Blackthorns are the true masterminds fr
ANDREW — started it getting with Lady Nerissa (not just some common fair folk, but a high fae lady of the courts!!!) And having Helen and Mark who on their own could be high members of the court if they chose to (they’re shadowhunters of course but the potential is there)
HELEN — Is in contact with Nene and possibly some of her other cousins. Leads the LA institute, yes but she could become a Lady of the Courts if she chose to
MARK — On his own Mark has the support of the Wild Hunt on his side and he could be a member of the Seelie Court if he wanted to. Then he also has The King of the Unseelie Court who would do anything for him (and Cristina ofc)!! And then of course the Rosales connection and they can come and go from Faerie as they please.
JULIAN — you may be like Julian isn’t part faerie or in love with one BUT my man tricked the Seelie Queen AND he is with the wielded of Cortana (which can break the most ancient faerie blade!!!)
TY — obvi,, Kit would literally do anything for him and once Kit realizes the full extent of his powers, I have no doubt he’ll be unstoppable. The First Heir (whether Kit likes it or not) has immense influence over faerie. But also Ty on his own is def a threat, he’s incredibly smart and fast and willing to do what needs to be done.
DRU — I have no doubt that our Prince of the Seelie Court will be down bad for Dru. Will do anything for her. Also she has her own strength combined with the influence of all her older siblings, she is a menace. I have no doubt she can navigate faerie. Not to mention she and Ty both have immunity in the Unseelie Court bc Kieran wouldn’t let anything happen to Mark’s siblings.
TAVVY — tbd but He’s def gonna follow after his older siblings,, he doesn’t wanna be left out. Plus he is raised by Julian and Helen. And he could prob travel all throughout faerie by the time he comes of age and be protected bc that’s the youngest Blackthorn that no one can touch
In conclusion the Blackthorns have a monopoly on Faerie so no matter what ends up happening in TWP they come out on top

WWE AU
Okay, so there was a time when I was a little obsessed with WWE. And for whatever reason, I just remembered that.
So, can you picture the guys in a setting like this? Doesn't even have to necessarily be wrestling, maybe more mixed martial arts. But there are cameras backstage and fights and lots of "entertainment".
That training fight scene with Alec and Magnus is living rent free in my head and I would just like more of that, you know?
As it always does, my brain went right to "backstory" Mode.
So, Alec was classicly trained, in a studio, with professional trainers and wrestling and other fighting styles have been practiced in his family for generations and are highly regarded. There is a philosophy to it, a feeling of honor.
Alec's parents actually weren’t happy when their son went to the WWE with his talents, but Alec argued that this might be able to help get the younger generation to look at the sport as something more than bashing each other for the entertainment value of the audience. (And, well, also money. Because while there is a familial wealth to the Lightwood name, Alec would like to be a bit more independent from them. And if he gets famous enough, gets his name out there, maybe he could open up an mma studio where he can then teach kids and adults alike the *real* sport.)
Magnus comes from a poor background and an even poorer neighborhood.
If you didn’t know how to defend yourself, you were prey.
When he was old enough to not be turned away by the guards immediately, he started fighting in underground rings for money.
Fighting was never anything more for him than a means to make enough money to eat and stuff.
One night, a wrestling manager looking for new talent happens to be at one of those underground rings and sees Magnus. He gets signed almost right away.
And just months later, Magnus has money and a measure of security and is rising in fame. Without the worries of his past nibbling at his heels, he lives it up.
Make it grand, make it a show, have some fun!
Fighting was never fun before. It was survival.
But now, Magnus *lives*.
And Alec thinks that Magnus is only in it for the show and the fame and the glory. That he has no respect for the art as it is.
And in a way, he is right.
Magnus doesn't respect the Art of fighting the way others in their line of work do. He didn’t learn it because he wanted to, but because he needed to. He will never feel the things that Alec does where fighting is concerned. But that doesn’t mean he doesn't have his own version of respect for it.
Once Alec understands that, he is even more in awe of Magnus than he was.
They both grow to learn and understand each other, without having to conform to the other's view.
Magnus will never be able to see fighting as something inherently good, but he respects that Alec does.
Alec will never see fighting as a mere tool, be he respects that Magnus does.

obsessed with how heavily James is associated with Hell and Grace with Heaven in the Midnight Heir. it makes both their characters so... untouchable. there's something too grand about them, too beautiful and too unknowable to be real. and it forces them to be separated from everyone else, for what can equal Heaven and Hell itself?? even they themselves are total opposites. CC should have let their fucked up romance have more of a moment it would have been so so good. just get rid of that damn bracelet we don't need it.
