Jaune: No, Nora.

Pyrrha: You're getting a lot better at being a leader, Jaune.

Ren: Nora used to not listen to you at all before.

Jaune: Well, I kind of had some help. I had to ask my grandma for advice on what to do about somebody who doesn't listen to you.

Nora: Ooh! Another grandma?! Is she strong? Is she scary? (Gasps) IS SHE SCARY STRONG?!

Jaune: Mm... Kind of, but it's not so much her being strong as it is she knows how to handle people that are way stronger than her.

Pyrrha: Really? What kind of job does she do?

Jaune: She's a knight.

Ren: ...A knight?

Nora: In shining armor?!

Jaune: No, no. She's just, uh... She works with the church for the queen.

Nora: A queen?! Does she live in a castle?!

Jaune: The queen? Yes. My grandma? Er, no. She lives in a manor with a lot of guards. Apparently, she saved her kingdom from an invasion of vampires!

Pyrrha: Um... Would these be the same kind of vampires as your... grandpa?

Jaune: Uh... No. Actually, I don't think my grandparents have ever met. But she does have a vampire guard of her own!

Count Dracula and Integra Van Hellsing is why you should watch this. He looks better animated I cannot breathe rn I’m so upset he didn’t look like this till the ending. The anime at least gave Dracula 10 mins I swear the manga was only 8 pages. It’s the facial hair it did something to me. It altered my brain chemistry butterflies in my stomach. Put me in every position, my womb is yours. This is why I fell for Snake from Vinland Saga.

I love how Sir Arthur Hellsing is like, "so, child, tell me: why are vampires so powerful"

And Integra rattles off a bunch of immunities and vampire lore like a nerd

And he just goes, "not quite, they just are that powerful"

the thing about chuuni writing is that pastors love it. they don't necessarily know where they pull it from, but sometimes a phrase gets stuck in their head and they throw it into their sermons without really sourcing it

which is a lengthy way to say, there's a surprising amount of pastors post-y2k who started saying "blood is the currency of the soul" without realising that phrase's modern popularity can be traced back to one Sir Integral Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing

While skimming the JP volumes, I noticed a lot of subtleties in how characters address each other that aren't always carried over in translation.

So I did the only rational thing and made a frequency list of all the different ways Integra, Alucard, and Seras refer to each other throughout the manga.*

Hopefully someone else finds this informative or mildly entertaining as I did.

*Obviously “fool” and “idiot” aren’t normally counted as a means of address, but they were funny so I've included them. Also includes omake content.

Random André (Hellsing OC) Headcanons

...because I can

Once out of Romania, she had many hardships adapting to the ‘Western life’

When I tell you she started to shush the soldier when it came to certain topics once she understood them well enough

Her brother, Felix, was the one who taught her English, she also knew some from a neighbour who was a translator. So she caught it rather quickly

The first few days were Hell for her. Felix worried about her mental state and tried to convince her to go to a specialist

She refused and started drinking. André and Felix fought a lot about this

Not only this, they fought a lot in general

André was quick to integrate the English lifestyle into her own

Though, she liked to comment loudly on it, but in Romanian. Just to mess with people (she does it to this day, sometimes Alucard joins just to annoy Integra)

After she mastered English well enough, she started to learn French. In memory of her elderly host from the wartime

Also, she discovered comics. Marvel, DC, you name it

SHE ATE THEM UP LIKE A STARVING ANIMAL

Her favourite series is ‘Asterix and Obelix’. She even has a few volumes in her office at the Hellsing mansion, but nobody knows about it except Integra and Sir Arthur (and Walter later on)

ON THIS NOTE, Walter discovered her secret while she showed them to Integra. The butler brings them up in a subtle way just to mess with André, who swears she will kill him someday for it

Oh, yeah, André also loves Agatha Christie, that's it

André also loves any floral scent, so that's how she smells most of the time

She also enjoys walks in nature or botanic gardens. It relaxes her

She complains about joint pain a lot. Mainly to annoy Walter or Fargason

(Fargason is an original character from the 2001 version. He is a captain and acts like some sort of guiding figure to Seras)

When I tell you she has conflicted feelings about Walter and Fargason. She somehow has a crush on both of them

Integra is her little girl. She teaches her everything she knows

She basically takes the role of her maternal figure. That's how she also got close to Walter

Seras is her main ‘child’ though. She protects her and everything, she's part of the reason Integra had so much patience with her.

She and Alucard have a somewhat amicable relationship. They mainly gossip about other members in Romanian together.

Felix is her backbone in the first few months. But then their relationship becomes similar to when they were kids, André being mostly the one with the initiative

André LOVES LOVES fashion, especially Western styles, she is bored of communist Romania's repetitive clothes and fashion trends.

She hates, hates to bake. She never understood how, never had to, just no.

She can detect almost immediately when someone is lying or pretending to be something they aren’t (she had suspicions on Walter, but convinced herself that is her paranoia)

She covers the mistakes of her closets people many times, can lie with a straight face

André will sometimes coment on why it was better during communist times, propaganda is strong, okay? Especially if you’re ‘re-eduacated’ in an orphanage.

She fully supported the Romanian Anti-Communist revolution thought. She even helped it with whatever she can. She knew it wasn’t good, yet she feels it’s the right way. She was conflicted and started drinking a little again, until both Walter and Fargason stopped her.

She hates modern communist though, she thinks it will lead nowhere and hates those new young people.

On this note, she is slightly judugmental of people who have a lot of piercings. She can understand the unnatural hair color, but hates to see people mutaling their bodies
