Life hack for people with short attention spans:

WATCH DUMB VIDEO ESSAYS!!

I am so goddamn serious. If you have a short attention span, the best thing I've found to help with that is video essays. Please bear with me on this post, or read the tldr:

My attention span was, and still is, totally fucked from my years on the internet and my adhd. I would spend hours on tiktok, instagram reels, yotube shorts, etc, and could barely sit through a TV show episode without opening pintrest to get even more mental stimulation.

But fast-forward to mid-fall last year, where I got really into video essays. Started out with 5 minute "storytime stickmen" videos, then 10 minute explanations of game lore bits, then 15 minute videos on punk subculture stuff, etc, and even though I was still using pintrest and reels relentlessly outside of that, after a little while, I realized that I had stopped pulling out my phone mid-video. The videos were actually grabbing and KEEPING my attention, even if I had little to no prior interest in the subject.

And by now, I've finished multiple 2.5 hour long videos on totally random stuff like the characterization of king candy, the making of a now lost-media tinkerbell movie, weird random stuff in fnaf security breach, etc. Now I actually SEEK OUT these longer videos, and even find myself getting involuntarily disappointed when a video essay I'm watching cuts out at 20 minutes! I actually enjoy sitting through long videos now!

And sure, I don't always watch them in one sitting, but if anything that's even better! I can come back to a video I was in the middle of and STILL keep my attention on it!

This is all to say, you can't just cold-turkey your way out of the instant-dopamine-rush of shortform content. It's just not gonna work. But if you do it gradually, you will likely find yourself getting actually INTERESTED in just the act of watching a longer video. And maybe by extension, you'll find yourself being more engaged in things like your classes because you're already GOOD at being engaged with lectures on random stuff, which will likely make you want to find MORE of that class content (the coursework) because you're used to the information being given for even longer periods of time than the classes are.

Now, this won't work for every type of content, and it obviously won't completely fix your attention span. Hell, I'm still addicted to plenty of online shortform content. But it is undeniably helpful to have even just one facet of your attention span be over an hour.

TLDR (since this IS a post directed at people with short attention spans); I used to have a detrimentally short-as-fuck attention span, but I basically exposure-therapy'd myself into enjoying long videos, and it did WONDERS for my attention span. I want to help you do the same.

I was talking to someone much older than me about politics and the generational divide, and during the discussion they asked me what the young people who support trump are thinking, what they're discussing among themselves, and I told them the truth, which is that I don't know because I don't interact with any in my day to day life. This is true mostly because I go to a hwc and you'd be hard-pressed to find a conservative who'd be willing to admit it there, but also, I think, because I believe they are temporary.

What I mean by temporary is this: the support of trump and the Republican party by youths is a system of beliefs almost entirely dominated by people one to two decades their seniors, minimum, and i don't think that is a particularly good recipe for long-lasting political beliefs. More importantly, however, is that when I was in high school in the rural southern US, and surrounded by people who sided with the right out of habit or passive indoctrination, it did not take much to get most of them to agree with leftist ideals. Usually, only a single conversation. Most people I talked to almost immediately agreed with "from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" once explained. And, to me, most importantly, very few people disagreed with Greta thunberg. We all saw what she was doing and most of us understood and agreed with what she was saying.

That, more than anything, makes me believe that any sprouting of republican support among usamerican youths will be shortlived and short-reaching. Because none of us want to die, and more of the world is catching on fire every summer. Climate change, more than any other issue, will be the thing that defines our generation's political beliefs and movements, and I don't think people will take a fantasy told to them by their elders seriously when it becomes more and more obvious by the day that it is fantastical. The weather is inescapable, and the summers are hotter and the storms are worse than they've ever been.

To me, "trumpism" and republican stranglehold on people younger than 30 is temporary because we've been told our whole lives that saving the world from climate apocalypse will fall to us and now that it is harder than ever to ignore that said apocalypse is at our doorstep, those right-wing movements aren't giving them anything but platitudes. I don't think a generation conditioned to battle climate change will listen to a party of people, most of whom will not live to experience the horrors their actions or lack thereof have caused, that tell them to cover their ears, close their eyes, and put the fight down all to make numbers on a screen go up while their futures burn.

I think it's not worthwhile to ponder at length about the future of the right in the us because the right is doggedly working to ensure there will be no future for anyone, and I think people's survival instincts are stronger than that.

Wow... people having to identify themselves to a government because of they are part of a group that is seen as ¨other¨ or because they want to learn about a certain topic...where i have seen this before...

I don't know... maybe what it is considered one of the biggest red flags in steps of dehumanization of groups, mainly minorities?

Edit: Since this gained more notes, for those who don't know KOSA is, it is a USA bill that was reintroduced on May 2023 (last year). It is called ¨Kids Online Safety Act¨ (KOSA for short). It has been introduced and reintroduced for a while now since 2022. It is meant with the intention to ¨protect kids¨ by restricting their use of internet by pushing age restrictions and people having to present their ID to use internet or access certain websites, quite similar to the Kansas state bill that got passed. Many groups and people have criticized this bill for the potential censorship it can come with it and do more harm to the kids than help them. Possible censorship that has been suggested this bill can bring is LGBT+ content, politics and news, mental health search, political and social opinions in general (adults included). What is more, it has been put into question the possible invasion of privacy for both minors and adults by having to share an identification to use certain websites. That people could get censored or doxxed by doing this.

As for the bill itself, there was a hearing earlier today in the Senate. ( April 17th-Wednesday). It could take a while before it gets voted and has to pass different stages. Then it would take months (18 months) to be implemented if it gets passed.

I'm not American myself, so i'm not sure how much i can do about this. What i do recommend is making calls to senators and people involved in pushing this bill to make clear your disapproval of it. Try sign petitions or just telling others about it.

Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan is calling for him to resign after alledging he "jusified terrorism", a misinterpretion that Guterres rejected.

10.28.23: After Israel cut off the internet for Gaza, Elon Musk said that he would supply internet access to humanitarin aid groups in Gaza. This came with the catches that a) it wouldn't go to all of Palestine and b) only if the US government allows it; so the possiblity of this actually happeing is slim to none. This lead Israel to claim that they will use all available means to prevent that.

10.27.23: (the link is the I24 newsite which afaik is Israeli but most of them were so) The city of Taba in Egypt was struck. In the last time this happened, Israel admitted fault and expressed remorse; however now no one is claiming it and Egypt has said that once they find out who did this and gather enough evidence, they will retailate. So far there are three main suspects for this:

The way democrats and liberals portray people who won't vote for Biden because he's aiding a genocide as "being selfish" is...very telling. Its projection.

Like I'm a black queer, neurodivergent woman in this country. What exactly about Biden's fervent support of Isr*el's genocide on black and brown people in Gaza and his support of police brutality on college students protesting said genocide is supposed to warm me up to him????????????? nevermind the fact that he's just as much of a racist cunt as Trump but its ok because he's got friends that are black, right?

And I'm the bad guy for not wanting to vote for him? I'M SELFISH??? I would never be able to look a single Palestinian person in the eye knowing that I voted the for the guy that was HAPPILY aiding the terrorist state in murdering them and their families and if you can then YOU ARE EVIL. When you can look at a group of people who have been suffering for decades and be so content with their lives being the price for YOUR freedom that you can get on the internet and scream "but not voting for Biden is a vote for Trump" ...YOU ARE EVIL.

Sorry but not sorry: I don’t want to be a vent bucket for my rp partners. I don’t want to hear about their medical issues, their fights with their parents/friends, how their job sucks, what they hate about the current politcal and economic system, etc. I get a “man I fuckin hate my job” or a “man I’m not feeling the greatest today”, but I don’t want to go back and forth or read a block of text of emotional vomit. And I can’t ever find a way to tell others that I don’t want the ooc to be a vent channel because then I look heartless. I feel for them truly, but there’s really so much an internet stranger can do and I don’t think they realize how uncomfortable and second hand taxing it can be on me to feel like I’m having to go out of my way to respond just to make sure they don’t feel ignored.

long rambling personal story that I have to get off my chest

I used to consider myself a hardline marxist-leninist, and when I was feeling particularly helpless about the world in 2020, I decided that I was going to actually do something to make myself feel productive. and part of this was like, hey I'll join a leftist discord group and see what they're doing. they probably feel the same and will have some ideas

so they set up a group and make like a constitution and hold elections - whatever that's normal for politcal nerd groups

and the other ML there. he starts messaging me like "how are we going to take over this discord government." clearly he really believed that it was the duty of the one true party to inflitrate and take over any political instution they could. Even for a stupid discord server.

and I have to say that complete lack of self-awareness - this guy was just wanting to roleplay the russian revolution - fully soured me on that hardcore ML position.

suddenly I couldn't look at other "Revolutionaries" online the same anymore, I was like hyper aware that they never actually wanted to do anything or find some productive use of time other than just discoursing and being an internet microcelebrity or roleplaying the revolution

extremely disheartening when I was at a very low point and it just completely shattered my faith in marxism that I'd had since I was like 16, which in retrospect makes me regret that part of my life even more. I associate it with like the most vulnerable and impressionable time of my life. In my opinion I held those beliefs because it was a black and white certainty about the future when I felt so extremely uncertain. It helped me to feel like I knew better than everyone else.

I'm not outright opposed to hardline leftists, I think we have the same goals and attitudes still, but I can no longer take that specific form of analysis with more than a grain of salt

one of the particular worst things I believed at the time was that "to die in service of the revolution is better and more valuable than to live under captialism." and like in reflection of that time in my life that belief is really chilling. I couldn't live like that anymore. I couldn't believe in killing myself. I had to believe literally anything else or I would have actually killed myself out of fear and cowardice and hopelessnes. (don't go looking for it but there was another fan of my same sports team that actually did kill themselves and left a suicide note on their blog. That really scared me.)

I still think I'm struggling with that. I am slowly coaxing myself into believing I have something to live for. Sometimes it's still extremely difficult. Getting into hockey was definitely part of this process. Anything. Anything else.

And the Democrats (or "Left") are not the only party with members who react with unreasonable hatred towards those who disagree with them. There's also plenty of toxic people on the "Right" end of the political spectrum who will spew the most confusing and unecessary hate at those who disagree with them. (I would venture that those people are the ones supporting Project 2025.)

Various individuals all across the spectrum are unreasonably hateful, and it's important to practice distinguishing actual political stances/policies from the mindless hate and mudslinging (especially when you're ready to vote.) Personally I hate both main parties, but as far as I can tell so few people vote for the independent/non-partisan candidates that doing so is basically wasting your vote (at least in today's politcal environment.)

Poor her got hit with grief bad for not winning the 2024 vtuber artist awards and it made her hold off vtubing a long time, combined in the past months with the relentless bullying she received from misogynist men who wouldn't stop bringing up and stalking into her private life from the abuse she received from her ex military husband DeSynchronizer who he the ex husband out of pure spite for not objectifying to him, decided to leak all her private real life photos onto an adult server, he betrayed Froot's trust as a wife even further.

It's even worse in real life laws how people leaning on the alt right wing of politcs want to take advantage of someone's private personal information and photo content getting leaked onto the servers such as AntHimeCh who claims it's legal to do so, so long as it isn't the original leaker who made it public. This alt right neo nazi vtuber AntHimeCh the stalker who harassed Apricot Froot was one of those sociopathic monsterous right wing vtubers who relentlessly spreaded private information and photos about Froot across the internet. Podcast far right wing groups like TheArchCast and Under the Tea vtubers do not give a care AntHimeCh leaked Froot's personal content out of harassment. I have read from Froot's other boyfriend CINNAstix dm messages to rainblackrose who did an excellent job defending Froot where CINNAstix did his best to comfort Apricot Froot when DeSynchronizer forced Froot to break up with CINNAstix so as to force Froot to remarry DeSynchronizer himself and become her husband again as his trophy wife for gratification tools of personal lustful pleasure.

It's even worse far right neo nazi misogynist cult websites like virtual asylum and varis hangout insist on doubling down wishing to ruin Apricot Froot's life. With varis hangout on the worser wishing to spread Apricot Froot's unclothed photos leaked from her ex husband DeSynchronizer across the internet as revenge for not obeying his needful whims for lustful favors.

I admit I don't really watch Froot much, but I've heard a little bit about the abuse she's suffered from her ex-husband.

Did not realize she hasn't streamed since October and that her last tweets were from January. It is disheartening to see her disappear like that knowing all the shit she's gone through to get to where she is. She is clearly a creative and amazing vtuber with many people who can support her.

I feel you and hope she can return safely and in a better place than what she was before she disappeared. Be sure to give her a warm welcome when that time comes! 💚
