DESTIEL FIC RECOMMENDATIONS pt3

As my obsession continues I’m back with another Destiel fanfic recommendations list.

Per usual most of them are top!Cas (in this house we only read explicit/mature fics). Long, smutty, sometimes fluffy, angsty stories I’ve read recently.

This time I decided to add a little blurb to each one for y’all (basically what I liked the most, what to expect etc)

1. Redux by emmbrancsxx0, valleydean (emmbrancsxx0)

This one is amazing af. It’s like Supernatural in early seasons (when the writing was still good), but sometimes ever better. Each chapter is like an episode with a twisty plot and amazing writing. Every character is portrayed so accurately I feel like I’m reading actual ep of the show. Be warned, it’s a long one (387k words), however it’s brilliant and definitely worth checking it out. Domestic fluff and goofs between Cas and Dean are hilarious. And Cas is horny mofo who likes using his grace to fuck with Dean (I mean literally hehe)

2. Pizza Cats & Rainbow Flags by FriendofCarlotta

Love story of closeted librarian Dean and confident pastor Castiel. It has everything – denial, fluff, comedic moments, but in the end – it’s happy. Overcoming your insecurities and finally standing up for oneself. Lovely gesture brings them closer to each other to fight all the homophobic assholes of this world. (35k words)

3. Vibrato by tiamatv

Probably my favourite read in a long while. Devoured it in one sitting. Vampire!Cas is such a sweetheart, but a badass too. Author did an amazing job capturing the angst and fluff between them. It has some dark themes and it made me tear up at times. I would call this a perfectly balanced fic with a lot of hearty feels. Would give a lot more details, but don’t want to spoil the joy of finding them yourselves. DEFINITELY CHECK THIS ONE OUT 10/10, would recommend. (69k words)

4. In The Flesh? by beingforcedtolivebadwriting

Unexpected, but worthwhile read (it was on my “to read” tab for quite awhile, cause I wasn’t sure if I wanted to commit or not and at that point it was unfinished). It’s very entertaining and has a lot of comedic/jokey moments. Strange soul bond unite demon!Cas and hunter!Dean, so they start a weird friendship and kill monsters together. In the end, they fall for each other. Gotta say, both Dean and Cas are written a bit different than we know them on the show. Dean is more in touch with his feeling and Cas reminds me of Balthazar (his quirks, attitude, bratty behaviour). As I said, somewhat different, but for sure entertaining read. (90k words)

5. the home we make together by vaudelin

A fix-it fic. Read a lot of those after the finale. But this one intrigued me more than usual. After Cas died, Dean went out and built a life with baby Jack. Not getting any peace Dean decides to rescue Cas from the empty. It works, but they get stuck together managing parenting, their own feelings and everyone around them. It’s actually rather touching. Felt a lot when reading and still keep thinking about it. (48k words)

6. American Rebels by ValandraWrites

Uff. Very hot. Very nice (hehe). Rebel student Cas meets professor Dean. Usually I prefer other way around (prof Cas is everything… *salivating*) but this switch up brought me a lot of joy. Cas is confident and gives no fucks, while Dean is more shy and wants to stay in the closet. Their burgeoning relationship is rocky, however they help each other to figure things out while being uncertain of their future. (78k words)

7. No place I'd rather be by zation

Innocent dad Cas is sometimes all I need in this world. And this fic has him. Dean moves next door with his son Ben and soon befriends Cas, a single dad who has difficult relationships with his ex-wife. Dean ever so helpful lends a supporting hand and develops a crush on his straight neighbour. When secret is revealed Cas is stumped. But soon realises he feels more for Dean. Both sons develop a brotherly connection, which brings their dads together even more. (68k words)

8. The Memory of Love Always Remains by Rex_Writes

It’s quite sweet. Dean loses memory and doesn’t know how he ended up dating his crush. Lost of flashbacks and trying figure out what happened. Cas, now totally in love with Dean, is struggling, but persistent in his need to help Dean remember everything. Found this fic compelling and a great read when I was feeling down. (99k words)

That’s it. Shorter list than usual, but with the new job I find less time to search and find the gems. Also most of the fics I’m reading now are still incomplete, and I know people like them finished. However, I’ll be making another list when they complete, cause boy oh boy, some of these fics are out of this world.

Fort Heaven Chapter 6

Synopsis: Some call it a hoax. Others claim it’s a cult. But, to Evon and his friend Yasmine, two online journalists, Fort Heaven is the subject of their latest story. Along for the assignment is cameraman and not-so-secret crush of Evon’s: Russet. With a drunken, murky night in their recent history, things are especially tense between them but, of course, personal matters take a backseat when the interviews start. The trio speaks to ex-members of Fort Heaven and, while some of the accounts are shocking, the job remains just that: A job. That is until one of the women they interviewed, along with her daughter, goes missing. It soon becomes clear that not only is Fort Heaven a real threat but Evon and his friends are being watched. And what started as a simple cash-grab article is now a matter of life and death.

Chapter 6

The keyboard clicked with each tap of Evon’s fingers as he took the notes from the interview and tried to lace them together with continuity and grace. Linda’s story was a short one but it would still be a good insight—especially by the time he was done embellishing it a bit.

In the corner of his computer screen Yasmine sent him a few messages about her notes and a secondary interview.

Evon worked quickly to finish up a paragraph before checking what she had to say. He asked about the next interview and was immediately taken aback.

It would be at least a day’s trip away.

Unwilling to try to articulate his thoughts via text, he picked up his phone to call her. As soon as she picked up, she laughed.

“Why did you call me?”

“It’s easier,” he defended himself but still laughed along with her. “What’s up with the next interview? Did you get a reply back today?”

“Just about an hour ago, actually.” Her voice was distant—she probably had him on speaker. “I already said we’d do it but it might take a couple of days. Didn’t want to spring a huge trip on you out of nowhere.”

“Well I appreciate it,” Evon remarked, “who is it with?”

He could hear some typing over the phone before she answered him. “Bob and Darcy…no last name. I guess last names don’t really matter in this context anyway…” There was a short pause. “Anyway, Bob was in Fort Heaven for—wow—like a decade almost. He left with his wife and they had to move six…wait…SIX times!?”

“Jesus…”

“This is going to be a little intense…” she trailed off, probably reading more of the message. “Sorry, this is a new email from them I just got.”

Evon laughed. “I kind of figured with that reaction.”

“Alright they gave me their number so we can talk,” Yasmine mumbled but he could distinguish her words, “What time frame would work for you best, Evon?”

“Next week? Maybe Tuesday or Wednesday if that’s okay with them.”

The weekend would inevitably be full of polishing the small piece that they had written between the two of them about Linda. As long as it was interesting, well written, and fully engaging their boss then they could get a real time frame for the final project.

It was scary to think that Gavin could take one look at what they had and tell them that they had to either leave or take free-lance positions. Evon wanted to have more material prepared but he hoped that with Linda’s piece and a brief rundown of what they already received from Bob and Marcy that it would be enough.

Russet laid halfway down on his bed and watched over the video he had while mentally picturing how he would edit the pieces together. He’d have to get his computer up and running to go through the big camera’s footage but he was feeling just a little too lazy.

The video started from the moment the three had entered the car to the moment they left it with a few breaks throughout. Some of it was just scenery which he would keep but likely put to the side and add in later when needed.

He scratched the side of his chin before speeding forward a few minutes. Only Evon was in the shot and it was in the middle of one of their group sing-a-longs. Toward the end an overly excited Evon tried to hit a high note but his voice completely broke and he started coughing though there was a lot of laughter in there as well.

Yasmine could be heard cackling off camera. “You sounded like a thirteen year old boy going through puberty!”

“My throat is dry,” he retaliated and took his right hand off the wheel to smack at her.

She wasn’t bothered by it at all and continued to laugh.

“You didn’t hit the note either,” Evon said once she’d settled down some.

“I didn’t try.”

“Children,” Russet heard himself on camera, “No fighting.”

“What are you going to do about it?” Yasmine asked and the camera finally moved in her direction. She had her hand stuffed in the side of her jacket only so she could pull it out and reveal her middle finger.

Russet chuckled and threatened, “I’ll turn this car around.”

“I’m driving,” Evon pointed out just before the camera refocused on him.

“I’ll figure something out,” he responded.

“He’s gonna kill us!” Yasmine yelled dramatically, “God no! Is this why you agreed to come?! So you could kill us yourself?!”

“Absolutely,” Russet answered with a straight voice. “I’m filming so I can re-watch it later and re-live the moment forever.”

“Well this got dark really fast,” Evon said and then they all laughed.

Russet paused the video and sighed—mostly in disappointment at himself. He’d been getting steadily worse and the video and his recent actions just reinforced that. He wondered if anyone had actually noticed—Trinity specifically.

“This is stupid,” he mumbled to himself and then laid his head back onto his pillow. His room was small and rather bland in terms of decoration so there wasn’t much to focus on and that let his mind wander.

When he first remembered seeing Evon was when he was still a baby. Trinity, unlike a lot of children, was excited to have a little sibling. Personally, Russet probably would have thrown a fit if he knew he’d have to share attention with some kid he didn’t know. And, in a way, he felt that way toward Evon in terms of sharing Trinity’s affection.

The older Evon got, the more attention he demanded from his sister and there were certain time periods where he simply wouldn’t leave her alone. Russet always felt uncomfortable or irritated by the younger boy and didn’t try much to hide it though Trinity just found it to be funny.

She was beyond entertained when Evon told Russet that he had a crush on him—though at the time, Russet hadn’t exactly realized he was a boy yet and any ideas he had of nonconformity were securely locked away. Trinity thought the pair were cute and was excited at the prospect of having her best friend also be her ‘sister-in-law’.

It was after Russet came out that he realized something was wrong with himself. One of his greatest worries was whether or not Evon would accept it. If he would lash out because of his crush on a perceived girl. Other boys had felt that way at school and most flat out denied that Russet had said anything and continued to use his dead name and call him a girl.

Then there was Evon who was perfectly fine with it—almost too fine. It was if he knew all along but just waited for everyone else to catch up.

It meant far more than Russet was ever willing to admit. And after finding out—through Trinity—that Evon’s crush hadn’t gone away, he made it his mission in life to stay away from the kid if it was possible. The less time they spent together was less time he had to worry about slipping up and destroying a lifelong friendship.

That party was a mistake, choosing to be around Evon while he was drunk was a huge mistake, and agreeing to take on this project with him and Yasmine was easily the dumbest thing he’d ever done. And the video was proof.

Just as he was getting ready to travel down a rabbit hole of self hatred, his phone rang. He dreaded it being Evon and, lucky for him, it wasn’t.

“Yeah, what’s up?” he answered after a few seconds.

“Stuff,” Yasmine answered. They’d exchanged numbers before the trip since it would be best for all of them to be able to contact the other instead of Evon being the go-between. “We’ve got another interview on Tuesday.”

His brow furrowed. “This Tuesday?”

“Yep.” She sounded quite happy about it and, from her perspective he supposed it would be the sooner the better. “Our project has been approved by the boss and we have a month to work on it.”

“A month…isn’t that a bit, I don’t know, short?”

The woman laughed in a way that let him know just how much she and Evon were expected to do in such a short amount of time. Sure, he liked to have things done in a timely fashion but he felt quality was more important.

“It’s generous. Trust me.” She sighed.

“Got it,” Russet responded. “So where is the next destination?”

“…A few states away,” Yasmine spoke in a careful tone as if he’d disband from them.

“Ah, a little country traveling then,” he said with a smirk. His other hand seemed to move by itself and stated to roll the camera back and forth across the bed. “Doesn’t sound too bad to me.”

He could hear the sigh of relief. “Good. We’ll have to book a hotel while we’re there so…shit I guess I should get on that.”

Russet chuckled and shook his head. “Don’t worry about it; I’ll do it.”

That seemed to genuinely surprise her. “Oh…thanks, Russet. You don’t have to, you know.”

“I’m aware but…” he spoke and looked down at the camera in his hand. If he didn’t give himself something to do then he knew he would spend all night looking through his footage and over thinking things. “You two do enough already so I’ll pay for the hotels.”

“Okay,” she said, giving up her resistance to the idea rather easily.

“I’ll text you the place when I find it.”

“Send it in a group chat,” Yasmine declared before hanging up. It was almost startling.

Russet took his phone from beside his ear and watched the screen go dark. “Does nobody say goodbye…?”

3. Hi sorry to bother you but I couldn’t find it looking by myself, there was a Wangxian fic I read a while ago I don’t think it’s finished? But basically older Wei Ying is hired to teach at a boarding school I think it was - there were definitely dorms - and he taught cultivation history which he thought was fake, it wasn’t QUITE reincarnation but I think cultivation clans using the same names was a thing like there’d been a few of everyone. Lan Zhan was a student and believed in cultivation like literally everyone else at the school that wasn’t Wei Ying. The last chapter I think they ended up in the cloud recesses and got there by plane. Thanks for your consideration!

4. Hi mods! I've been looking for this fic for ages and haven't had any luck...basically it was a post-canon fic and the premise is WWX either needs new clothes for some important event and/or LWJ wants to buy him new clothes, and ofc since they're married they have to be in Lan colours. WWX is reluctant bc of past trauma that he was never allowed to wear Jiang colours, and his whole life he kept wearing black/neutral colours and felt like he never belonged anywhere. The ending is him finally wearing his own version of the Lan colours and basically feeling like he's finally part of the family. I hope this is accurate enough and thank you!!

6. Hi! Hope you are ok! I'm looking for a fic, please. I don't remember much, but what I do remember is that WWX doesn't die, but he rescues a group of children and treats all of them as his own. There are two girls, one of them who could be A-Qing, and two boys, A-Yuan and, possibly, Xue Yang, and the scene with the statue 13/16 years later still happens... I think he creates and teaches another type of cultivation, maybe talismans?, to his children. Thanks for your amazing work!!

7. Hello, could you please help find a fic. I checked all time travel tags but i can't find a fic, all i remember is - LWJ time travels or something to sunshot campaign times & Wuxian expects him to argue but he just hugs him.Also Jiang Cheng n all keep leaving Wuxian alone in battlefield but Wangji keeps finding him and keeps company. He also keeps tent warm for Wuxian n feeds him food .

8. Actually, next fic finder, can I get help with that fic? I remember Wen Qing spending a month making incense and medicine so Wangxian would have the stamina to go five times in one night, Wei Wuxian really doesn’t want to admit he’d had nightmares about dual cultivating with Wen Qing, but in the end he does cultivate a yin core. It was a WIP, if that helps.

10. Could you help me find this fic? It's another yllz wwx fic, but in this one wwx isn't quite right in the head. He's wacky. He kidnaps both LWJ and JYL, but isn't particularly cruel to them even though they're scared of him. Its not a canon divergence, I think it's reincarnation? They have memories of the past (future?) but they're foggy. WWX just wants company. He's alone in the burial mounds; save for the servants. The servants are there willingly but they were all... uh, non-con teleported? @untdoc

Post Season 8 fanfic recommendations

Hey! So, I’ve been working on this for a while. I’ve read so many good Hyde/Jackie stories, and I feel like it’s a waste not to share them.

I tried to separate everything in categories, but some fics fit in more than one category and honestly it was just a mess. So I've separated them the best way that I could. I’m going to post the categories separately, and after I’m done I’ll make a masterpost with links to each of the categorized posts, as suggested by @springsteenicious and @those70scomics (thank you both for the help!).

Even though this is only one category, it’s still a long post, as I’ve said before, I’ve read many fanfics. I don’t know if I should edit this and add more stories as they’re out (for instance, I have a post season 8 story that I’m planning on posting soon) or if I should just leave things this way. Please let me know if you think I left out a good story or if you have any suggestions.

I’ve read and enjoyed ALL of these stories, they’re all very good. All the stories mentioned here are post season 8 stories. I’ll post stories that take place during season 8 next. I hope everyone enjoys it!

this ask made me realise i have absolutely no idea what time of year aidays starts or ends and therefore no concept of the actual timeline so it took me a little while to figure it out. here's the breakdown:

chapter 1: spans 1 day

2 week gap

chapter 2: spans 3 weeks

chapter 3/4: spans 3 weeks

3 week gap

chapter 5/6: spans 1 week

❥ Content Creator Year in Review

⇀ first creation and most recent creation of 2020: I kicked off 2020 with the release of Carousel Epilogue (Yoongi). That was a defining moment for me because it truly felt like I was ending one specific era to start another. Which was true, by the way, because Carousel had marked the rise of my blog at one point and it had been a part of my long journey in writing fanfiction that releasing that epilogue and ending the series then had become a true turning point for me and my blog. My most recent creation was Blurred Lines (Seokjin, ongoing). I never meant this one to be a series, but somewhere in the middle of writing it, I felt like the story needed to progress in small paces to build up the momentum. I have always had a hard time writing for Seokjin, seeing the actual person himself has multiple layers that we tend to misidentify him with the persona he normally shows us in public. I simply wanted to show that part of him in this story, while creating a new persona for Seokjin that I’ve had in mind since way back then when I wrote Hazy.

⇀ one of your favourite creations from 2020: I’ve mentioned a few favourites a while ago, but the one that sticks to me the most personally was Spotless Minds (Hoseok). I wrote this based on my favourite movie, Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Minds, taking the original idea of introducing two characters who erased a part of their past but giving it a more in-depth backstory compared to the movie itself. I still added a few elements that you may find from the movie but written here differently: the beach house, the waiting room, the stages where Hoseok was slowly losing his memory, and I added a few things that may help readers who haven't watched the movie to understand the aspects of the story a bit better without having to go back and watch the movie first. What pleases me most about this fic was the writing style that I used then — the sequences of the scenes, the back and forth between the timeline to reveal all the twists and turns — and then putting them all together. It was just fun creating this one.

⇀ a creation you’re really proud of: Oh, this one is the hardest to decide. I can’t choose between We Are All Dreamers (Jungkook) and Never Falling (Jimin). WAAD was a bit challenging to me. I love soulmate aus and I believe I had gotten stuck on this story right in the middle of it until I decided to add Jungkook’s pov in it to help with the story’s progression. I’m proud of how it came to be (and I can’t wait to share the continuing story for it) and how I’d gotten through the process of writing it. NF took me quite a while to finish, but I love every single thing about it. The story building, the tension, the momentum, and I think the characters I created in this story have become the pairing that I have grown to care the most this year aside from Strip!Jimin and his OC.

⇀ a creation that took you forever: The Half-Lycan (Taehyung) and Of Bears and Bonds (Seokjin). Both stories took a while to work on due to their part in the Shifters series, which required me to take my time in planning and working things together to make sure that the story and the timeline would line up perfectly with its origin story, Blood Moon Rising. THL was actually planned to be posted on Tae’s birthday last year, but it took me 6 months to finish. OBB was planned to be posted immediately as both stories correlated between each other, but then things happened and what was planned to be an extremely long one-shot had ended up becoming a trilogy (the original word count was 69k words lol).

⇀ a creation from 2020 that received the most notes: The Half-Lycan, I think? I know it went over 2k notes while the others remain somewhere around 1k or less lol Idk man, I don’t keep up with notes. I’m grateful for all the feedback, the reblogs, and the comments, so I remember those the most compared to the numbers.

⇀ a creation you think deserved more notes: Ravished by Two (Namjoon, Seokjin), Spotless Minds (Hoseok), Red Series (Yoongi). Seriously, I love writing for Hyung line, but they don’t get enough love from everyone :( I must add Bed & Boyfriend(s) (Taehyung, Yoonkook) too because I worked hard on that one and I need it to get some more love lol

⇀ a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it: I’m starting to get into Stray Kidz and Ateez more lately. I haven’t made any creation for them aside from adding Wooyoung (Ateez) as a side character in Spotless Minds haha I did write Simon Says for Simon Dominic though.

⇀ a creation you made that breaks your heart: Slow and Steady (Jungkook) took the front seat on this one. I’ve fallen in love with the original idea when it was sent to me for a commission. I knew it would cause a lot of heartbreak and it did spark some reactions from my readers that I enjoyed reading through once the fic was up. I just didn’t think it would hurt ME in the process as well :/

⇀ a ‘simple’ creation that you really love: Let’s see… Pay By Play (Jungkook), Red Lipstick (Yoongi, from the Red Series), the drabbles I’ve made this year for Carousel and The Stand-In. Can I really call these ‘simple’ tho? Hahaha

⇀ a creation that was inspired by another one: Strip! (Jimin) was a spin-off for Bad For You. Though I had originally started this series since October the year before, I still have to mention this one because I only began working on the final chapter after I was done with Carousel at the beginning of the year. The Half-Lycan was actually inspired by its drabbles. I’d never intended to expand Blood Moon Rising’s universe into the series you are seeing now, but when I was writing Rapture during NaNoWriMo 2019, I began to imagine Taehyung and his wolf pack to become a part of Jimin’s story. Since I was already planning to introduce the members as a pack in BMR in future chapters, I decided to link the two universes together and have Taehyung from Rapture to have his own story before I get to introduce the others. This decision was what had led me to create the entire Shifter series universe.

⇀ a favourite creation created by someone else: umm...I haven’t had a chance to actually read a lot of fanfics this year as I have gotten into original stories more and the year has been crazy busy. The ones that I’ve read and shared are listed in my side blog, @diaficrecs. 6. Do you listen to podfic (fanfic recorded like an audiobook)?

I’ve tried to but I often find I can’t listen the whole way through without getting completely distracted no matter how bad I want to listen in. I struggle to actually process what’s being said because I naturally start to listen to the cadence/pitch etc. of the speaker instead. It’s very lyrical to me! And soothing! So I drift off daydreaming, then I distract myself from that with things I need to do, then I worry about things I can’t do, then daydream some more, wonder if I ate dinner, and- OH SHIT I WAS LISTENING TO THAT.

18. What kind of commenter are you? (no comment, short comments, emojies, keyboard smash, long comments, etc)

Honestly it varies. The more I know and interact with you, the more and more you will receive outrageously long comments from me. I will open a word doc and just start live blogging my reactions, and there WILL be keyboard flailing. To be fair I always keyboard smash, it’s my brand at this point lol. But sometimes I just leave a short comment, the quick “I loved XYZ, this is great!” the rare “Re-reading kudos, how dare you do this to me a second time!”. I don’t emoji b/c I’m old and being a dumby about learning it, but I do emoticon! :D

20. Have you ever read a fic more than once? What is it about that fic that made you read it again?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love re-reading fics! I often find new details I didn’t see the first time (or second, or third, or ever) and it’s amazing the way I’ll come across really nice subtle foreshadowing or descriptions that I missed completely before and it just *chef kiss*!

I don’t care if it’s short or long either, although when it’s under 1k I’m less likely to re-read it on purpose. I’ve sometimes forgotten short fics I love, and then when browsing through find them again and it’s just as good as the first time I read it lol. I read on average 5-10 fics a day so unfortunately short ones often are buried for me. That all said I love short fics that really focus on one emotion well, I’m a sucker for comedy so stuff like “Can I use your toaster?” is amazing for me! (The early exchange between Glimmer and Catra is hilarious)

I’ve re-read “Of Queens, Knights, and Pawns” (a SW fic), which the latest chapter was over 69k. Let me repeat that, that chapter alone was over 69,000 words. So you can get the sense of what a task that was. The nice thing with short fics that I love is I can re-read them more than once or twice!I feel awful because there is one shorter fic in particular (like under 2k) that I think I’ve re-read about 5 or 6 six times in SPOP, and of course I can’t remember the name right now. Thanks brain! I’ll edit if I think of it!

As to what draws me back, it honestly depends. Usually it’s the characterization that draws me back over and over, but I also love really good world building. I’m in the middle of re-reading the series “Rhythm and Blues (C’mon, Darlin’, Make Some Noise” which does both of those and also links to the songs in the fic so I’m expanding my music appreciation too!
