One Piece Live action season 1 + hints or similarities to future One Piece moments (specifically after East Blue saga) - part 1: episodes 1-3
This wasn't meant to be a comparison between the live action and the animanga, but more so seeing these added/modified scenes that differ from the manga, yet with some of the acting/writing includes clues and hints to different and future canon material, or even characterization that necessary doesn't fit East Blue yet, but fits well enough into later arcs.
Luffy not knowing his world directions both in Opla (ep 1) /// Skypiea arc, in anime ep 168. But it could be for honestly any other arc (Funny thing is, in Opla he rang the bell that unfortunately alerted Alvida's crew, and only when I was rewatching that scene it made me connect it with the great Luffy moment at the end of Skypiea.)
The matches that Zoro has on the Island of Sixis in Opla ep 1, possibly manufactured on Baldimore (?), with a name Beast of Baldimore. /// After Sabaody Archipelago Franky was sent to Baldimore by Kuma, finding Vegapunk's homeland and laboratory, and also developing more of his science projects, as well as causing funny incidents, such as the Burning Beast. (It has probably nothing to do with the matches, except for the 'tiger on fire' motif and the name of Baldimore, but the details of Opla are just so fun!)
Zoro's first meeting with Luffy in Opla episode 1 is really different but fun nonetheless, especially with wording of the line that he doesn't want to 'play pirates' with Luffy. It's such a great setup line for his development to truly be one of the very first to understand how much Luffy means everything he's doing /// Zoro in ep. 323 Post Enies Lobby arc, making sure both his crew and the audience know how seriously he takes being part of Luffy's crew and what it means for future arcs.
Opla ep 2, Luffy mentioning Shanks' way of thinking about fighting (or not fighting someone who's not worth it) /// ep. 146 Jaya arc, Luffy saying to Zoro not to fight Bellamy's crew, which was direct influence from Shanks not fighting the Mountain bandits in the first chapters of the manga. It's interesting that for both of these scenes both Zoro and Nami are there to hear this.
This is just a fun bit, but seeing Nami excited about having a bath was cute. Opla ep 3 /// anime ep. 326, just after they get Sunny and everyone was finding out what space there is for them.
Garp and Koby playing the game of Go, Opla ep 3 /// CP0 agents playing Go while discussing the outcome of Strawhats & Oden's crew's raid on Onigashima against Kaido. It seems like a game that maybe Marines play more/enjoy (?) & above, up to CP ranks.
Usopp 'retelling' a story about eating a dragon, Opla ep 3 /// Punk Hazard ep 580, Zoro killing the dragon and planning with Luffy what's the best way to cook and eat it. Lol. In next chapters Luffy was carrying a big chunk of it, seemingly ate a bit part of the dragon already.
This one is self explanatory. Zoro is so gone for Luffy in Opla it's insane. Every time I remember that I get emo. ep 3. /// One of the first really fond smiles that Zoro keeps smiling at Luffy, a mixture of proud and understanding how Luffy works. ep 63, but it's just so much better in the manga, just look at it. Smitten™ (ch. 104)

Law didn't know about the kids in Punk Hazard
Tumblr media
This will be an unpopular opinion, because fandom loves to think Law is so shocked here because of Strawhats crazy antics. But I believe that the actual reason why Law looks so horrified is because of the kids. He didn't know Caesar was experimenting on kids and right under Law's nose. He spent months there and yet he didn't know.
How is that possible? Because Law had to agree to two conditions so Caesar would allow him to stay on that island: 1. give up his heart in exchange for Monett's 2. not be nosey about Caesar's research. And if Law would break that deal, his heart would get crushed at any moment. So why would he break the deal before he would figure out how to get his heart back? He stayed there for months and I doubt he needed to stay there for that long, he was just stuck there because of that stupid condition. And yet soon after he found out (thanks to Strawhats), he reacts like this and betrays Caesar:
Tumblr media
I still have no idea who Caesar reminded Law of. At first I thought "Doffy, right?" but Doflamingo despite being manipulative never had to actually drug people not to leave his side, that's exactly why he is so scary in the first place. My current bet is Vegapunk, for two reasons:
1. Everything Caesar does or did is implied to be a copy of Vegapunk's inventions, just worse quality: artificial zoan fruit dragon = smile fruits, that's why Caesar knows how to "respawn" devil fruits as well, don't think it's his own achievement. Also we're being fed to a lie for the whole duration of Punk Hazard: Caesar isn't the only person capable of producing SAD, Law reveals it on Sunny on their way to Dressrosa: "he only found an use for Vegapunk's lineage factors" - which means any other scientist could have done the same as long as they knew the method. At first Vegapunk was also part of the illegal science group of Punk Hazard, which means both him and Caesar did experiments on humans (prisoners, Kaido, Alber, but not kids, but it's still experimenting on humans). All things considered it doesn't have to be a stretch that Law might mean Vegapunk here, after all he did read a lot about world government's experiments that were previously done on Punk Hazard (he did share a bit about gigantification for example and that was also an experiment Vegapunk was involved in!).
2. It could have been Judge, but I don't think Law ever met him. His surprise at seeing Stealth Black for real was enough of a proof to me, he never met any Germa before.
Remember Flevance and all the kids dying? Or Law's novel when one of the first feats Law does after forming Heart Pirates together with Bepo, Shachi and Penguin is to rescue people from pirates? I even think it mentions "rescue kids" specifically.
Staying on Punk Hazard and having a deal with Caesar who experimented on kids and Law having no idea about it must have been a big blow to him. He probably thought he's partially responsible for that. And despite the fact we don't see much of his emotions in that arc, we do see two little hints of it:
Tumblr media
Overreacting much? He didn't really need to cut them up, seems like he released his anger there.
Tumblr media
This one's easy to miss. He eats while looking at the kids, gulps his soup in one go and throws away the bowl. For someone so calm and composed that seems like such an uneccessary display and has like nothing to do with his talk with Smoker. But if we compare it to a certain someone having a flashback to his trauma, it all suddenly makes sense:
Tumblr media
I see the parallel here, even though it's subtle.
In summary: Law wasn't a cold bitch, he was actually genuinely traumatized after Punk Hazard. That line between "good" and "evil" the marines painted feels even more symbolic, all things considered. Law believes himself to be a villain there and hates it.
Bonus: Yes, I remember that Law told Strawhats to forget about the kids when they told him they want to save them. He probably thought they can't pull it off or maybe he still felt bound by his deal with Caesar. Instead of being a counterargument I feel like it just makes the whole thing worse: he thought there's no way to save them which in turn for sure made him feel even worse about himself. He ended up being what he hated the most: the government's decision of not even trying to help Flevance and dooming it, just like Law himself doomed the kids.
Strawhats literally saved his heart a little bit there, in Punk Hazard. Didn't help him feel better about himself, but made him believe slightly more in miracles.

[begins coughing like a cat about to throw up a furball] [spits up several nendo headcanons and then looks at u proudly]
-nendo collects hot wheels. I have no justification beyond this except that I also collect hot wheels and I think we'd have that in common. if he was real I would take nendo to a toy shop to look at all the hot wheels. just stand there and observe them for an uncomfortably long time. my friends aren't deeply autistic enough to do this with me so I can never observe the little cars for long enough before making a purchase :(
-nendo trans ally #1
-nendo has no idea what his sexuality is but not in a confused/questioning way, in a "I have never thought about it longer than 1 second" way. he likes who he likes and has no thoughts beyond that. he is label-less in a [shrugs shoulders] way. (saiki is also label-less but in a "fuck you" kind of way)
-nendo loves rollercoasters and watches weird essay length youtube videos about theme parks and animatronics. its a hobby that deeply disturbs everyone around him bc this guy cannot do basic math but he can and will channel the spirit of akechi rambling about defunct animatronics. sometimes he shows saiki pictures of animatronics in late stages of decay in horrible pitch black nightmare settings and saiki reacts as if nendo has placed a live cockroach in his lap.
-he has a condiment problem. steals sauce packets from restaurants with diagnosable compulsion.
-he doesn't Get memes. everyone has tried and failed to show nendo a meme. it's like trying to show your mother a funny picture and she holds the phone as far away from her face as she can and then stares at it for way too long before silently handing it back. he just doesn't Get It.
-hes like, really good at making memes though. he will just absently turn a phrase or take an image so absurd that everyone is still saying and reposting and reacting with it years down the line. he has no idea that he has this power
-he feeds stray cats and makes little shelters for them outdoors <3
-nendo and kaido roleplay together sometimes. I'm talking like, warrior cats roleplay. sometimes dark reunion but kaido gets pissy if nendo messes up The Lore. nendo calls it "playing pretend" bc he has no concept of cringe culture and kaido dies inside every time
-he manages to forget his own birthday. every year. saiki remembers though, and it's the one and only day he will ask if nendo wants to get ramen with him, instead of the other way around. it gets to the point that saiki asks if nendo wants ramen, and he says "what, is it my birthday ahaha" and saiki is just like. you goddamn idiot. good grief.
-last time I did one of these I said that nendo loves cute things like sanrio plushies and holds them so gently. well I see that and I am correct, but I raise you nendo thinking that SAIKI is the cutest thing he's ever seen. something about the pink hair and glasses and the little limiter bubbles on his head and his purple eyes and little frowny eyebrows- nendo wants to. hold gently. sometimes he just grabs saiki by the shoulders and stares at him blank in the face and saiki is like [nervously] "what the fuck? what the fuck????"
-he and aiura actually get along weirdly well. they're unhinged in similar flavours and it gets saiki's blood pressure up. he tries at all costs to keep them away from each other. their singular brain cells cancel each other out on sight.
-akechi makes nendo's brain hurt a little. he just can't process all of akechi's akechi-ness and it makes him feel dumb. he's fine with being dumb most of the time but akechi just makes him feel a little self conscious for some reason. (definitely not because he's jealous that akechi was friends with saiki first)
-he still likes the funny lil guy though. akechi's the only one who will enthuse with him about rollercoasters and he values those talks. so much.
-toritsuka is afraid of nendo for some reason. no one is sure why but nendo LOVES it. he's always trying to jump out and scare him. saiki supports nendo in this endeavour ardently. toritsuka suffers.
-nendo falls down the weirdest tiktok rabbit holes. it got so bad once that they got teruhashi to distract him while kuboyasu lifted his phone and deleted the app off of it. it took nendo several months to realise he could redownload it.

Dressrosa Archives: Kappei Yamaguchi (Usopp) x Kamiya Hiroshi (Law) talk (2015)
Tumblr media
Here's another interview that was released during Dressrosa, Kamiya was hosted by Kappei (x). The conversation focused on Kamiya's experience voicing Law, analyzing characters (notably Law and Rosinante) and the studio's atmosphere.
It's a long interview that was separated in two parts (bless Kamiya's photographic memory). Starts below the cut!
Tumblr media
Yamaguchi: This time on Usopp's 'This is Real!', we have the talented Hiroshi Kamiya who plays Trafalgar Law - a character who has been very active in the TV series lately (applause)!
As we're reaching a crucial point in the battle against Doflamingo, we'd like to delve deep into Law' s character. Thank you for joining us!
Kamiya: Thank you very much!
Yamaguchi: Let's get straight to it. Law is still a character shrouded with mysteries. But what was your first impression of him?
Kamiya: No seriously, he was a mysterious fellow alright (laughs).
I believe Shabondy Archipelago 2 years ago was his first appearance. There was hardly any information other than being a "Rookie with a bounty exceeding 100M who leads a pirate crew aiming for the New World." I had no idea how to portray him. I felt like other rookies stood out more.
Tumblr media
Captain Kidd, for example, made it to the back cover of the manga. Since Namikawa Daisuke was casted for the role, I thought he might become a big character in the future.
Yamaguchi: But I felt that Law was the craziest one. For a mysterious role like this one...was there an audition, again?
Kamiya: No. I was approached by the producer from that time. Recently I was told by the producer that he didn't think the role would become so important!
Yamaguchi: Same here (laughs). Law really entered the spotlight during the Summit War, didn't he? That's where he got closer to Luffy, or that's where he might have started considering the off chance of an alliance...
Kamiya: You may be right. Looking back on his encounter with Luffy; after learning about Law's past and his relationship with Doflamingo, I think Law might have sensed some possibilities when he saw Luffy defy the Celestial Dragons.
If that's the case, just my personal speculation, it somewhat makes sense as to why Law saved Luffy during the Summit War. But back at that time I didn't know any of it. It was impossible for me to foresee Law's role there (in the war). I thought he would reappear after like 5~10 years (laughs).
Subsequently, when Law saved the passed out Luffy from Akainu's attack, I thought, "Is this why his character existed?" I was wondering if his role as a rookie pirate was done. But then at Punk Hazard... It was rather a quick reunion (lol)
Yamaguchi: Seeing him at Punk Hazard at that time, I was like, "Huh? Where are Bepo and team? Did he end up alone?!" (laughs)
Kamiya: Same here. I was like, "????" (laughs)
Tumblr media
Yamaguchi: Even though Law was a character veiled under mystery, he has gradually revealed his human side in the flashback. You played Law's childhood as well. How was the experience?
Kamiya: When I read the flashback in the manga, I really wanted to voice him. Initially, Law proposed an alliance with Luffy to take down Kaido. But there was also this desire deep down to crush Doflamingo himself.... All these make him rather a suspicious character with unclear motives from reader's perspective, right?
But after knowing his intense past that lead to that point, I decided "I want to portray Law's childhood too!" I was very eager to do it, I expressed my wish to the producer. It turned into an audition.
Yamaguchi: So that required an audition. (laughs)
Kamiya: Exactly. At that time, the manga volume wasn't out yet. So, they gave me a copy of the Jump magazine. After finishing the usual recording, I was reading some lines from it. I remember you asking me, "What are you doing, Kamiya kun?" and I said, "I have an audition after this." (laughs)
Yamaguchi: I remember too. I was wondering, "What audition?" (laughs)
Kamiya: Strictly speaking, it might not have been a traditional 'audition' - given that there were no other candidates. It was more like having my voice heard (by the staffs) and assessing whether I could voice the character.
Yamaguchi: It's common to hire a different actor for flashback roles to match the character visuals. But letting the same actor voice in flashback makes a character more consistent. Law's encounter with Cora san was a turning point in his life, you being able to play that role should become crucial for depicting his character from now onwards.
On this topic, did knowing Law's past influence your performance of his role?
Kamiya: I didn't consciously change my acting. But there are some differences in his portrayal when I know Law's past compared to when I didn't.
In the early days, I voiced Law with a subdued, cool tone; but as the story progressed and his character unfolded, I believe my tone range expanded.
Yamaguchi: I totally get it. Back when Law started interacting with the Straw Hats and yelled "I hate breads!" - it left a strong impression in me. I felt that line alone made him instantly more relatable and easy to like.
Kamiya: That's right. Actually, at the "I'm a doctor!" scene in the Summit War, I was told not to raise my voice. So I focused on acting cool. But I'm more comfortable being expressive and yelling these days; I feel like I've been allowed some leeway since "I hate bread!" (laughs)
Yamaguchi: (laughs) I remember "I hate bread" most vividly, but which line do you think left the biggest impression on you?
Kamiya: Not mine, but Cora san's "I love ya!" made me go, "Uwoh, so that's how it's delivered!"
As for Law's lines, hmm.. "I'm a doctor!" and "Drake-ya, how many people have you killed?" are memorable. Also, "I've broken the gears!" after slashing Suwabe san..No, Vergo.
(Junichi Suwabe: Vergo's actor. Currently acting as Green Bull.)
Tumblr media
Yamaguchi: Back when Vergo was slashed, none of us had any idea about the the two's real relationship.
Kamiya: Indeed. But the scene was remarkably balanced. While maintaining a calm expression, Law sliced through everything in the background in half, including Vergo. This spoke of how intense his deep emotions were. This scene really etched in my memory.
Yamaguchi: Amazing, it's still giving me chills!
Kamiya: Since I was under the request to not raise my voice, so I acted coolly. But seeing the intensity transmitted so well in the art... I felt glad.
Yamaguchi: Breaking the gears in Punk Hazard and tying up loose ends in Dressrosa – it feels like even after Dressrosa, Law's journey with the Straw Hats is far from over. They still need to reunite with Sanji's group and visit Bepo and team!
Kamiya: That's right. Hasn't it been about two years since Law mentioned them being left at Zou?
Yamaguchi: In real world, it's been about two years. But in the story, it's like the same morning?! (laughs)
Kamiya: Pretty much like just a moment ago. (laughs)
Yamaguchi: That was insane! When Law told Doflamingo, "You called CP0 this morning", all the cast members made faces like, "THIS morning!?" (laughs)
Kamiya: We've been through some insane times, haven't we? (laughs)
Yamaguchi: This conversation had been insane too. Sadly, it's time to wrap up. Thank you so much, Kamiya kun!!
Bonus talk (website special edition) : Child Law and the Donquixotes
Yamaguchi: Law's past is currently unfolding in his flashback. What were you particularly mindful of while playing Law's childhood?
Kamiya: Since he carries a tragic past, I was conscious of portraying the notion of "no belief in humans" and "humans only harbor malice." It's somewhat a tunnel vision of the world. But considering he was a child, I convinced myself of that. (laughs)
Yamaguchi: When the story transitioned back to present from the flashback, I was a bit sad thinking how I won't hear little Law's voice anymore. But then it felt so natural to hear adult Law's voice. I remembered, "Oh right! Kamiya kun had always been Law." (laughs)
Kamiya: I'm so happy to hear you say that!
Yamaguchi: Speaking of the flashback, Cora san plays a crucial role.
Kamiya: Yes. When I heard Cora san would be played by Yamadera san, I thought, "Woah, a freaking amazing person has joined!" As I mentioned before, his performance of "I love ya!" is so touching that just remembering it makes me tear up.
Well, my first impression to Cora san was "Who's this dude?", though (laughs). He's a guy who gets annoyed by children and throws them out...Frankly, it was hard to believe he's sane. It was inevitable for Law to be pissed off and yell "I'll kill him!"
Yamaguchi: From Cora san's exchange with Sengoku afterward, it seems he intentionally treated Law and the children harshly to keep them away from The Family... but there could be a better way to do it (laughs)
Regardless, Cora san struggled with many hardships from his childhood; I feel sorry for him.
Kamiya: He had a hard time due to his idealist father. His father was a goodie-two-shoes blind to reality, so to speak; unable to recognize the poor intent of others. I think he was the type of person whose survival was meant to be a struggle in the world of One Piece.
Yamaguchi: True. This caused his wife and children to suffer. I felt like telling the father, "you're too naive."
Kamiya: Actually, in the scene where Doflamingo's father says, "I'm sorry I'm your father," I couldn't cry even though it was a tragic scene of a parent being murdered. Instead I was very angry at him.
Yamaguchi: In that scene it's easier to resonate with Doflamingo: "What has father done!"
Kamiya: When I read the manga, I didn't feel much. But once it was animated and I could hear the lines, I really understood Doflamingo's feelings. "Ok, he's an idealist dumbass." "This man's is no good, I couldn't possibly keep up with him either!" (laughs)
Yamaguchi: Being sandwiched between these two, I pity Cora san.
Tumblr media
Kamiya: Cora san probably had perceptions of both a Celestial Dragon and an ordinary human since childhood. That's likely why he could handle special missions like being a spy.
Yamaguchi: Unlike Doflamingo who couldn't adapt to the world, Cora san didn't really do anything wrong but ended up being crucified anyway. I felt really bad for him.
Kamiya: The flashback elaborated quite well on Law's feelings. But the mystery behind why Cora san suddenly changed his demeanor after learning Law is a D is still there.
Actually, that's the only part that left me unconvinced. Why's that a man who hit him is suddenly saying let's pack up and run - I couldn't wrap my head around it. But Yamadera san's presence and persuasiveness left me feeling, "this person definitely knows something, I must listen to what he has to say."
Yamaguchi: I get you. Even though Yamadera san is no different from us and knows practically nothing (laughs). By the way, I'm really looking forward to how it'd go when the last bit of the flashback airs.
Kamiya: I'm curious about its reception.
Yamaguchi: Lastly, any message you'd like to share with the fans?
Kamiya: It was fun talking with Kappei san and sharing personal impressions and perspectives, but please forget everything I said! I want everyone to enjoy it naturally, I'll be happy if you continue supporting One Piece from a neutral perspective.
Yamaguchi: Kamiya kun, thanks for today!
Kamiya: Likewise, thank you very much!

Interview #2, Studio Experience and popularity
Source: [x]
Yamaguchi: By the way, I was at the restaurant Baratie for an interview recently, and they were showing the first episode of One Piece. I saw your name credited among the cast and went "Gweeeh?!" (laughs)
Kamiya: (laughs) Yeah. In the first episode, I played pirate A.
Yamaguchi: One of Alvida's henchmen?
Kamiya: Yes. As pirate A, my role was to discover Nami sneaking onto the ship, and then immediately to get knocked out by a groin kick.
Yamaguchi: I didn't show up until episode 9. You were earlier than me! (laughs)
Kamiya: Actually, I debuted earlier than even Kazuya Nakai san (Zoro's seiyuu), since Zoro only had a brief appearance at the end of the first episode.
Nakai san came to tour the recording. I remember asking "what's up, Nakai san?" and he mumbled something like "Ah, well, um" and just quietly sat there.
Yamaguchi: (laughs) Did you have any other roles after pirate A?
Kamiya: I did a couple more after that, but the first episode left the strongest impression on me. I still clearly remember Luffy bursting out of the barrel in his debut scene. Deep down, I got excited during the recoding, thinking "Woah! One Piece has really begun."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another memorable role was Eddy, the four eyed helmsman of the Bellamy Pirates. It was strange to voice Law facing off Bellamy himself in the Dressrosa arc, having voiced one of his ex-subordinates long ago. (laughs)
Yamaguchi: Wasn't it in Mock Town? When Ueda Yuji san was there?
Kamiya: Yes. Ueda Yuji san voiced Sarquiss, the vice captain of the Bellamy Pirates.
After that was the story of Shichibukai meeting arranged by the World Government. Doflamingo appeared and used his strange power to make two marine officers fight each other to the death. The two marines who were made to fight each other - Marine Officers A and B, were played by me and Ueda san. They knew they were being controlled, but nobody knew how it was being done, or the power of something like Ito Ito no mi.
Yamaguchi: We didn't know anything either! Bet you didn't expect to end up fighting against the same Doflamingo years later.
Kamiya: That's right. I never imagined I'd get to play a character with a connection to Doflamingo. Moreover, at the time of Law's debut, I didn't think he'd be the one to with such connection. (laughs)
Yamaguchi: Seriously. Life is full of surprises. (laughs)
Anyway, changing the subject, how do you like the atmosphere in One Piece voice studio?
Kamiya: I absolutely love the atmosphere on the One Piece set! There are many seniors there who can be called legends, so of course, there's tension. But it's the type of tension that makes you feel comfortable as a professional.
Yamaguchi: It's okay to be honest, you know (laughs)
Kamiya: (laughs) But I am being honest.
In presence of legends like Mayumi Tanaka san who has been leading One Piece for 15 years, I'd always think that I have to give my absolute best. Of course, when it comes to the actual recording, being serious isn't an option for us. But only recently I've realized that it's okay to ease up and have fun outside the recording sessions.
Yamaguchi: Well, that's the captain for you. (laughs)
Kamiya: She's really something else! (laughs)
t/n:the strawhat VAs all call Luffy's VA Mayumi san 'captain.' I've noticed Kamiya doing the same few times. HMmm
Yamaguchi: The Straw Hat crews are scattered during Dressrosa and the team's brain cell Akemi Okamura chan, who plays Nami, isn't around. So, I personally consider you the only remaining brain cell in the current studio, Kamiya kun. You're the last straw that keeps the studio standing as a "workplace". (laughs)
Kamiya: What, really?! (laughs) That's a lot of responsibility. But I've recently realized that even if I'm criticized for it, it's best to get along the flow when I'm high on energy. (laughs)
(T/N: not confident with my translation for this sentence^)
Yamaguchi: (loud laugh) Come to think of it, you sure have been doing that a lot lately! I thought it was quite like Law.
Speaking of which, do you think the One Piece cast resembles their characters in some aspects?
Kamiya: Hmm... Law is such a serious character, so I always feel like I need to be firm with myself, but I often find myself like a puddle (laughs). Especially when Mitsuya Yuji san (Pica) and Mayumi san (Luffy) keep fooling around, I'm all over the place.
Yamaguchi: Those two... even though they're both in their sixties! (laughs)
Kamiya: I can't anymore... They say "Just ignoore", is that really okay?
Yamaguchi: I think it's fine. (laughs)
Kamiya: Even though they're like that most of the time, they completely change when it's showtime. It's amazing. Every time we record, I'm in awe, watching them carry the weight of the series on their shoulders.
Yamaguchi: Despite being small. (laughs)
Kamiya: ...Despite being small! (laughs)
Yamaguchi: Mayumi san's microphone is quite low, isn't it? Because she's small.
Kamiya: That's right. But I still get nervous when I think about using the microphone Mayumi san used. She's an amazing senior, but she also has this quirky side to her. I hope she stays this way forever. (laughs)
Yamaguchi: I also like Mayumi san's quirky sides (laughs) Once we start talking about Mayumi san, we could go on forever. So let's save that for another time!
Website Special Edition #2, More Law talks
Yamaguchi: Law is a cool and chill character, but I like how he playfully calls others "[ ]-ya". (laughs)
Kamiya: One Piece has many characters with distinctive speaking styles, as in the way they laugh or talk. Even a character cool at a glance can have this unique speech pattern that'd make them approachable. Law didn't seem to have any of that. At first I was worried - is this guy just cool? So when he started calling others with "[ ]-ya", I felt a weight off my chest (laughs)
But his accent is still a little troublesome, especially saying "Nose-ya" to call Usopp.
Yamaguchi: It seems he searches for someone's specific characteristic to come up with a nickname, like Luffy. But when he can't think of any, he just adds "ya" at the tail of their names (laughs)
Kamiya: Yeah (Laughs). Like how Nami becomes "Nami ya", Drake becomes "Drake ya". I find it funny.
Yamaguchi: This playful side is what makes 'the attractive guy' Law so endearing.
And he's insanely popular, isn't it? When I went to Universal Studios Japan the other day, there were many children cosplaying Law. Do you have a specific mindset when you're playing such a popular character?
Kamiya: Well...When Law ranked 2nd in the official popularity poll, I felt happy and pressured at the same time. Not because of the result itself, but because it made me more conscious not to undermine Law's charm in my acting.
On the other hand, I think it's a great privilege as an actor to be able to voice a character like this. If even one person becomes Law's fan after watching the tv series, I'll feel incredibly proud.
Yamaguchi: Yeah, I understand. It's a great honor as an actor when people start liking a character because of our performance.
By the way, how was the feedback from the people around you when you started playing Law?
Kamiya: Thankfully, the feedback from Law fans was amazing! On the flip side, the people around me were surprisingly chill. Like, "Oh, the ROOM dude?" (laughs).
Yamaguchi: "The ROOM dude"! (laughs) Which one is your favorite from Law's moves?
Kamiya: Got to be "Shambles." To be more specific, "Shambles" followed by "ROOM"!
Yamaguchi: The combination has such a catchy, memorable rhythm. To mimic Law, "ROOM" and "Shambles" are a must!
Kamiya: I'm a bit relieved. If such a catchy combination didn't gain attention, I would've blamed myself.
Yamaguchi: It's an awfully strong killer move. Depending on how it's used, the power can be invincible.
Kamiya: It's unfairly strong, isn't it? The fact that it can even grant eternal life made me think it's an outrageous Devil Fruit ability.
That said, it's not like magic - having known that using the technique depletes the stamina of the user. Cora san also mentioned that it's an ability that one can't handle without knowledge. Law must've been able to handle it because he studied medicine.
Yamaguchi: Indeed, like it was his destiny to eat the devil fruit.
Lastly, what do you think is the charm of Law?
Kamiya: Hmm, I generally try not to overthink about the charm of the characters I'm currently playing. If I understand the charm too well, I might start acting while thinking about things like, "This is their charm, right? So this is why they're popular?" So, I try to approach my work neutrally and avoid thinking too much.
Of course, there are times when I simply think Law is cool, but I deliberately don't dwell on what made him cool. I hope that when everything is said and done, I can look back and realize, "Wow, that thing Law did was ridiculously cool!", or "This is what makes Law so amazing!"
Yamaguchi: I see, that's an interesting perspective. Thank you for sharing all these insights today!
Kamiya: No, thank you so much for having me!

Imagine the Beast pirates finding out you're a witch
Tumblr media
For plot's sake, I'm going to make witches be like a race of humans (like the long arms or whatever the fuck Apoo is) that is thought to be extinct from over hunting by slavers and the world government not liking them.
Tumblr media
During your first time at Onigashima
Page One: *was blackmailed into showing you around* Your file says you were promoted because you killed a rear admiral. Is that true?
You: yes, but I found the battle to be disappointing, so I'd rather not go into it.
Page One: that's fair, anyway first thing thing you need to know about the skull dome is it's haunted as shit.
You: *pretends to be surprised* oh, no way
Page One: yeah, there's a Goryo, from the Kurozumi family, that keeps most of the spirits in line. But occasionally one of them will misbehave, or maim someone.
You: *starts making plans to make a spell to make yourself invisible to spirits* that's good to hear...sort of, I guess.
Page One: *spots Ulti, whom he ditched two hours ago* fuck, shit, let's get in here for a few minutes. *Pushes you into the nearest room*
You: *suddenly face to face with Kaido and the All-stars.*
Queen: We're busy here, what's the meaning of this?
You: I think we're hiding from someone.
Page One: No!... well yes, we're hiding from Ulti.
Ulti: There you are pay-pay! *Drags him off*
Kaido: Is this that newbie that killed the rear admiral last month? *Grinning*
You: Yes sir
King: *nods his head in approval of you* wait over there quietly as we finish.
Tumblr media
Three hours later
Kaido: it has gotten late, it seems I won't have time to talk with you today.
You: Very well, we can talk another time. Might I be excused for the night?
Kaido: do you need someone to help you find your way back to your rooms?
You: no I remember the way. Good night *bows your head and dips out into the hallway*
Kaido: *after a minute he realizes you left without something to light your way, so he gets up to call you back*
Tumblr media
In the Hall
You: *subtly nods at a spirit, dressed like a Wano nobleman, in hopes that he won't notice what you are as you pass him in the hall*
Spirit: *Stops and side eyes you, over his shoulder, as you walk to the end of the hall* You there! Peasant, come here and let me look at you.
You: *pretends not to hear him and keeps walking*
Spirit: I am talking to you there! Come here! *Uses his powers to pick you up and deposit you in front of him, where he grabs your chin and makes you look at him. Only to yank his hand away and start yelling* You're a witch! Kaido, you promised me no witches!
You: *covers his mouth and starts wrestling him to the ground and hissing* shut up, shut up, shut up!
Spirit: *Kicks you off and screams* This hag is assaulting me!
You: HAG! Who are you calling a hag, that's so rude!
Spirit: *shoves a finger in your face* I will have your head witch!
You: *bites his finger off and eats it (it's not cannibalism)* and I'll take your name and flesh for your insults, and arrogance.
Spirit: *screams in fear* Kaido!!
You: *consumes his spectral form bite by bite*
Kaido and King: *have watched the whole thing in shock from the doorway*
You: *senses them, and whips around to look at them in horror* shit
Kaido: ...so the rumors about you are true?
King: *is empathetic* it's okay, we're not going to hand you over to the world government. Endlings are safe here.
Kaido: *still not over what you just did*, and you ate him.
You: to be fair, he wasn't what he was claiming to be. He wasn't a goryo, he was a Jikininki.
Kaido: and you fucking ate him.
King: *elbows Kaido to get him to focus* You did well on your first day here, you got promoted, and rid us of an annoying liar in the same day.
You: thank you sir, but I'm only just a lowly captain.
King: not anymore, you received another promotion, you're now a tobi roppo.
Kaido: I don't remember approving this.
You: that really isn't necessary.
King: oh but you're doing it, you did just eat the only person who could control the ghosts and yokai here.
You: *mutters sarcastically to yourself* oh gee I wonder why you have that problem.
King: what was that?
You: I said I think using my powers so publicly will cause trouble.
Kaido: hmm... actually I have a few of the ghost I want to be shinuchi, and I have an idea of a break-down of several ghost units that would be useful... *grins at you, and winks, as he points a finger gun at you,* you're hired
King: They already work for us sir, and if you don't mind I'd like (y/n) to work under me.
You: why so you can take me under your wing?
King: Actually I lied, we'll be handing you over to the government, purely for that pun.
You: wait no, I'll behave!

[ SPOILER ONE PIECE CHAP. 1105 ]
IS THE UNKNOWN PARTY APPEAR AT EGGHEAD WILL BE REVOLUTIONARY ARMY?
Okay so I have read the summary spoilers this morning and oh boy, the title itself is funny like “ THE PEAK OF SEVERE STUPIDITY” like what’s that even mean oda???
Anyway I want to talk about the last part of the chapter where it’s says that there’s unknown party has pulled at egghead and destroyed Marines warship that going after the escape technicians & research teams of Egghead. And the Marine frantically asked to call for Admiral Kizaru and tell him that “ They’re heading to Egghead” ?? 👀 This unknown party must be a very huge threat that it requires for Admiral Kizaru attention.
Some people thinks of maybe Blackbeard Pirates, I was like nah Blackbeard helping escapees in a broad daylight? That’s very uncharacteristic of BB Pirates where they all go for sneaky & stealthy attack. Besides BB already at Egghead.
Some people said maybe it’s Neo MADS. 🤷‍♀️ I am not onboard with that idea but it could be a wild card who knows. I’m not Oda. Why I think it’s not Neo MADS is that Judge is not that stupid to come to egghead Island with his bigass snails 🐌 ship with potential catch strays along in the Buster Calls. It’s better for them to watch Vegapunk downfall since they both wanted that and get the chance to be hire by WG.
Revolutionary Army?
Ooh that’s what makes me feel like ITS POSSIBLE. Ok some people said “ RA is at Momoiro Island at the Grand line Paradise. There’s no way they can arrived at Egghead that fast.”
Seriously? Did everyone forget that Shanks pull up at Marineford from New World? When he literally stopped Kaido from coming a day before execution? 😬
And you think Revolutionary Army only resides at Grand Line? Ofc that’s their HQ and they must have their branches at every sea. See that’s what people forgot about the whole RA’s structure. And Dragon did mention before founding RA that he want to raise into a massive armed force scattered across the globe. Did he make it? YES!
You see RA’s has 4 captains for each blue sea forces. East Blue; Bello Betty, West Blue; Morley, South Blue;Lindbergh, North Blue; Karasu and each seas has their own team led by those captains. You are here telling me RA’s doesn’t have a team that resides at New World?
And the panel of where Vegapunk via Shaka ( RIP shaka mann 😭) talk with somebody that he can see that his death is about to happen and it turns out, it’s DRAGON who he is talking to. Another thing that seems possible is that Dragon asked Ivan opinion of where would Kuma heading to if a fragment of his true instinct still there. AND THE CLIFFHANGER THERE 🧐
I think He’ll— go where Iva? I think Iva knew Kuma will be heading to where his daughter is. Remember the exchange of how “ Child is Parents’ Weaknesses” from Dragon to Kuma? And with Shaka in contact with Dragon, there might possibility that Shaka inform him about Luffy & Bonney is on the island and the assassination planned on VP.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Judging by how the latest ending chapter turns out, the chances that RA pulled up to prevent lives of Egghead become like Ohara is quite high. Like the whole reveal about how Dragon told Vegapunk he will create military forces that can fight back after Ohara incident on Ohara remains must be hint of the future moves that RA will do during this arc.
Regardless, who are going to be there doesn’t matter. But if the RA catch the words that the Gorosei is at egghead and also stayed at the island with Kizaru while the Buster Call starts , well dragon appear to assist the RA & took Straw Hats under their care temporarily might be it. Probably escorted them to Elbaf.
How about Straw Hat Grand Fleet? Well yes it’s possible too! At this point, im sure the news about the Straw Hats vs Navy has been reported by Big News Morgan and the fleet took notice about it. Here’s the thing about Straw Hat Grand Fleet, what has been reported that seven powerful pirate groups under Straw Hats but no names mention on which pirates. So it’s interesting to see what happened soon!

Wanted to talk about Luffy’s main arc baddies.
-Morgan/Helmeppo: Good starter villains, vanity for the sake of it, and just a wacky (initially) unlikable guy. Both embody very much the opposite of what Luffy and Zoro stand for.
-Buggy: Would truly shine later, makes him kind of sucking for his intro that much funnier, considering where he is currently at in the story. A god of charisma and luck.
-Kuro: Great foil to Usopp, though a bit bland.
-Krieg: Overconfident jerk in the best way.
-Arlong: Fantastic baddie to conclude the East Blue part of the story, Arlong Pirates being the last major enemy the crew faces and defeats before starting the next leg of their journey and enter the Grand Line. Reads to me as someone who is stagnant in life or is unable to truly move forward. Luffy is still more than prepared to face him, though Arlong's true strength as a character is that he is more than we see at first glance. What we learned of his past during Fishman Island added a lot of depth to his actions and connected Nami's and Jinbei's stories in a very natural way.
-Wapol: Acts as a minor foil to Vivi's arc/style of leadership more than anything. Hateable though good for what he represents. Survived decapitation so gets a bonus point for being the only One Piece character to have managed that. Baby 5 and Buffalo don't count, not fully any way.
-Crocodile: Great all around, so smooth, so cool. Love Croc, love Baroque Works.
-Bellamy: Punchable but also great and had one of the more unique villain motivations in the series.
-Enel: Wacky and fun, though not a character I felt very invested in. I secretly hope he never shows up again and when asked, Oda pretends he doesn't remember the character. That would be hilarious and the best outcome for Enel to me.
-Lucci: Moody asshole with the personality of a wet paper bag, an underwhelming fighting style for a spy, and is not especially well incorporated into the story of Water 7 in my opinion. The city of Water 7 is 99.9 the same after as it was before. His beard post-timeskip is offensive level bad. Die sir.
-Moria: At the time, he was the Warlord with the best writing behind him. A look at how Luffy could end up if he didn't have a "Jinbei" to refocus him after facing annihilation. Has one of my favorite devil fruits in the series. I want a flashback about his and Perona’s first meeting.
-Hody: Good antagonist to ring in the timeskip and the arc which would have Jinbei meeting the rest of the crew. Similar to Arlong though with little in the way of a long term goal in life beyond spreading hatred. Works well with the message of the arc.
-Caesar: ew die.
-Doffy: In my opinion, him and his crew didn't really work as the main baddies of an arc, Monet and Vergo felt more threatening + compelling. Fine overall, though I find Doffy more interesting at Jaya and Marineford. Nice laugh tho.
-Katakuri: Another great foil to Luffy and turns into a donut death wheel. Is more someone Luffy can aspire to surpass than he is a reflection of Luffy's worst case scenario, as Moria was for Luffy.
-Kaido: Fascinating philosophy of wanting to be remembered though for the wrong thing. Unlike Whitebeard, Roger, Yasu, etc. Kaido only cared about his death itself being remembered, and didn't put in any effort into fostering a successor or a legacy. Said friendship was a sham though invited his own downfall with the way he ran his crew, a structure which invited backstabbing at every turn. Also a bit of a coward, resorting to lying to Oden in the past, because he knew he couldn’t defeat him. A relic of the bygone era of Rocks who will likely be forgotten by the world at large.
Kaido’s defeat was a great spectacle, the battle had him facing, nine samurai, Luffy with new haki and a new gear, four more pirates, and a dog and a dragon, and was built on Luffy’s connections he has spent time and effort forging since Punk Hazard, what he learned from Hyogoro, sent Kaido into a magma chamber which lead to an eruption that signaled both his send off and the beginning of a new era, and was seen by all of Wano, so cool. I see many folks saying they wanted more though fail to offer a what or how they would have things believably go differently. Kaido trying to rely purely on might ultimately failing him is a good defeat, as is Big Mom allowing herself to lose focus due to Law silencing her, then rashly attacking the explosive in an attempt to make herself be heard.
Many of the points I see brought up against Wano's ending remind me of vague concerns I remember seeing about if Oda has abandoned Big Mom's story, near the start of Wano. Arcs in One Piece don't really "end" when Luffy beats the baddie and sails to the next destination, especially at this point in the story, with so many characters being interconnected and woven throughout.

@dinoxdrake asked: ❛ all you can say are pretty lies. ❜ Darker vibes starters (Always Accepting!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Would you prefer pretty lies, or harsh truths, Drake?" Hawkins asked, eyeing his companion. He'd been surprised to find his fellow Northerner on Wano, though less than surprised to see he'd climbed up the ranks of Kaido's army to become a Headliner. The North Blue was generally considered the strongest of the seas outside of the Grand Line. Because of this, many had even made projections that the next Pirate King would be from the North, so of course both of them had survived long enough to make it to the New World.
And yet not so strong as to not be conquered by a Yonko. The memory of how he and his former "alliance" had been decimated still made his stomach turn. Even more so when he remembered what had been taken from him.
He'd live, for Faust's sake. He'd find a way to escape this wicked fate and prove his own strength among his fellow members of the Worst Generation. The cards had not been in his favor with his past alliance, but perhaps this time, he had a better chance. Drake was strong, and surely he didn't enjoy being given orders by the likes of Queen or Jack.
They were both pirate captains from the North. They were among the strongest and most dangerous of the Worst Generation. They were meant to give the orders.
Red eyes met the taller man's gaze unblinking. "Let me give you one now; if we intend to survive in this poisoned, oppressive country, we need to be both strong and smart. This means being duplicitous more often than not. Are you up to the task, Drake? Or is there still too much of an honest man in you?"

Chapter 259: Tending To Injuries
Notes:
Characters: Law, Ruby Rating: Teen Warnings: Language, blood Notes: hehe
After Law and Ruby had washed off all the dirt and blood and who knows what else off their bodies, they sat on the floor in Kyros-ya’s cabin. Law immediately pulled out the first aid supplies that the samurai had confiscated from one of the towns.
Ruby was his first priority. Everyone else, including himself, came later.
She argued at first. She said that he was more injured than she was and then she said he was too tired and she could do it for them, but she gave in because he was more stubborn than her at the moment. He was definitely taking advantage of her being exhausted because while he became more stubborn when he was tired, she became less.
“This will sting,” Law said to Ruby as he dabbed a cloth with hydrogen peroxide on her forehead. She hummed in acknowledgment but didn’t react in any other way.
Law watched her carefully. She was trying very hard to stay awake. Nico-ya mentioned she had vomited, no doubt from all the blood she had swallowed. He needed to quickly but correctly take care of her wounds so she could rest.
“Ruby, you seem used to Torao-kun’s rough healing.” Nico-ya said with a giggle.
“That’s a kind way to call him an ass,” Ruby replied, causing Robo-ya and Nose-ya to laugh. “But yes, we’ve been nakama for a while now.” She sighed with a small smile. “It was easy to get used to him, even if he is a grump.”
Law grunted and Nico-ya giggled again. “Whatever,” he grumbled. “Let me finish taking care of you.”
Ruby turned to him obediently. She smiled at him. His heart fluttered in his chest. He had missed that smile. He really wanted to kiss her. He would not, but he wanted to.
Law continued to take care of her, the two of them seemingly in their own world as the Straw Hats spoke amongst themselves. He made sure to clean her wounds and give her bandages.
Her arms were bandaged up, as were her ankles and feet. She had a cut on her forehead as well. He made sure to rub ointment on her wrists where sea prism cuffs had rubbed against her skin. If he wasn’t so exhausted he’d use his powers to take care of that. He knew she hated it when he did that, but right now he really didn’t care.
Ruby pulled her hair into a messy bun and curled her fingers, causing them to pop a couple of times. She stretched. Her body shook. She blinked a few times, as if she was trying to keep herself awake. She looked at him for a moment, her eyes obviously looking him over.
“Let me wrap some bandages around you, since you’ve been ignoring your injuries to take care of mine,” she said.
Law frowned. He didn’t want her to stay up any longer. He wanted her to rest. He still didn’t know what all Doflamingo had done to her but based on her wounds alone it was messy. He needed her to recover. He didn’t want her worrying about him.
“I’m fine,” he protested.
She frowned at him in disapproval. “Your arm is still bleeding, we should be grateful that your chest and stomach aren’t.” She sighed. She grabbed some hydrogen peroxide and poured it on a clean rag. “You need to be more careful,” she lectured. “Being shot? Your arm? Not to mention all these new little lines all over your body. Don’t think I forgot about your thighs either.”
“Ruby…” he sighed as she cleaned his arm. “Don’t worry about me anymore.”
She frowned sadly. “How can I not? Look at you.” Ruby swallowed and placed clean gauze on the wound. “I know a thing or two about losing limbs, you know.”
“I know,” he sighed and looked at her foot. “I’ll be okay.”
“Kaido will be after yours and Straw Hat’s heads now. You won’t get any real recovery time.”
“I’ll be okay,” he repeated. “I heal much faster than you, remember?”
She didn’t answer him, just continued to wrap his arm up. “Make sure you get proper rest after I’m done here.”
“I should be telling you that,” he said, slightly amused.
Ruby’s worried crease in her brows eased up a little. She sighed. Her bottom lip stuck out and wobbled a little. His heart broke. She was so tired and anxious. She was sick and in pain. He knew that all she wanted to do was to hold onto each other after not only experiencing the trauma of the last 24 hours, but also after being apart for nearly three months.
She looked so sad and he wanted to do whatever it took to ease her pain and depression.
“Okay,” he sighed out. “Help me with my chest.”
She nodded and pulled the first aid kit closer. Law grabbed her shaking hands and she bit her lip.
“I’m so glad...you’re alive,” she whispered. “When I saw you...” she swallowed.
“We’re alive. Barely, but we’re alive,” he patted her hand.
She nodded and took a deep breath, blinking away her tears. “You’re right. We’re here, and we’re together again.” A small smile grew on her face. “I missed you.”
“I missed you, too.” He let go of her hands and she continued to take care of his chest.
They dissolved into silence. He didn’t even nitpick her first aid skills that he needed to reteach her but it was fine at the moment because he was too tired to really care. It wasn’t terrible anyway. She knew enough to make sure the wounds wouldn’t be infected and it would be enough to last the night.
He looked around the room and then saw Lucia out of the corner of his eye. “Hey,” Law grunted at Ruby.
“What?”
“What’s she doing here? You know that’s his wife.” He had spat out the word “wife.”
Law had never cared about that lasting, loving relationship until Ruby — and Doflamingo was the last person who deserved one. Because of that, Law was uncomfortable with Lucia so near him. How could he trust the woman who willingly married that monster? Nothing good ever came from getting involved with the members of the Donquixote Family. He was living proof of that.
Ruby looked over to the quiet and awkward Lucia. “She’s the whole reason I was able to escape from my imprisonment. She’s a friend.” Law scoffed at his girlfriend and rolled his eyes. Ruby wasn’t stupid by any means, and she was far from over trusting, but this was too much. “After Doflamingo captured me, she came to me. We talked.”
“About?”
Ruby didn’t answer him at first, continuing to stare at Lucia. “It’s not really my place to say. If you want to know, you should probably ask her.”
So, it was personal . Of course it was. Ruby was a tangible part of what would be Doflamingo’s fall that Lucia could actually talk to. Knowing Ruby, she probably told him to fuck off and then spat in his face. And it certainly didn’t help that she had an outgoing personality that made people open up to her. He was, once again, living proof of that. That didn’t mean that Ruby should have brought the woman with her, instead of leaving her behind when it was safe.
“As for the wife thing,” Ruby continued with a frown. “It wasn’t healthy.”
“Nothing with that man ever was.”
Ruby looked back to him and they stared at one another. Ruby sighed and turned her gaze to the floor “Right, I know. What I meant was, they weren’t like us.”
“Didn’t realize we were suddenly the ideal for relationships,” he said dryly.
“Law,” she admonished him. Her brows knitted together in disappointment as she stared at him with a hard gaze.
“Sorry,” he muttered to her, immediately feeling guilty. He shouldn’t say things like that to her when they had just reunited after being apart for as long as they were. After what she went through, he needed to be far more gentle with her. He cleared his throat. “I’m sorry,” he said sincerely.
Ruby’s facial features relaxed and her frown disappeared into a neutral gaze. “She suffered, Law, and she surely wasn’t his ally.” Law stared at Ruby, chewing over her words. “She’s a friend,” Ruby repeated and Law sighed through his nose. “Trust me?”
““Friend” is stretching it,” he said in a low tone. “But I do trust you.”
Ruby smiled and lifted his hand up to her lips, brushing them against his knuckles softly. “Thank you.”
“I’m still going to keep an eye on her.”
“I wouldn’t expect anything less,” she said with a chuckle. She pulled her hands away and continued to wrap his chest in silence.
Law watched her for a moment before blinking multiple times. He was exhausted. His body felt heavy like an anchor. Staying awake was suddenly the hardest thing he’d ever done. He felt Ruby kiss his forehead. The warmth of her lips made staying awake even more difficult.
He closed his eyes for a moment, just breathing. He was so tired. He opened his eyes slowly and stared at Ruby for a moment.
“Tired?” Ruby asked him with a smile. Law let out a slow breath and nodded. “Well, I’ve bandaged you up to the best of my ability. You’re welcome to nitpick after we’ve gotten some sleep, okay?”
“Yeah.”
Ruby smiled and took off his hat, setting it beside Kikoku. She ran her fingers through his now clean hair. She reached for his cheek and rubbed with her thumb.
“Scruffy.”
He huffed and closed his eyes. “Kept it like that for you.”
“Uh-huh.” She rolled her eyes playfully. “It’s going to be uncomfortable,” she said very quietly. “Floor, no blankets, no pillows.” She closed her eyes and sighed. “But honestly I don’t really care at this point. I’m too tired.”
“Go ahead and lay down,” he said. “Get some rest. I’m going to stay up a little longer.”
“Are you sure?”
He nodded. “Yeah, don’t worry about me. I’ll sleep.” He would sleep significantly better now that she’s here, too.
Ruby took a deep breath. “Okay,” she swallowed. He noted her pale features. She needed to rest. She was still nauseous but he didn’t have anything for her nausea. All he could do was make sure she slept.
He watched her lay down and stare up at the ceiling. He took her hand in his and kissed her knuckles. “You’ll be very sore tomorrow,” he warned her.
She snorted. “I figured.”
“I’ll make sure you don’t do anything.”
She chuckled. “Okay. Whatever you say, Captain.”
Law did his best not to smile in front of everyone. “Good night, Rube.”
“Night, mo chuisle.”

“ War. I have never questioned my captain’s want for war. A battle of battles, an ending of lives, a true passage of the strong. The war to end all wars, that was our goal. To rise above it all, to see it all burn, and to see who survived--the strongest, the smartest, the most resourceful. Then, only then, might the world actually be worth it again. ”

those who are already on their way to buy hair dye, all you can hear is some screeching car wheels, giving you Need for Speed: Grand Line
❀ Izou, Kid, Cavendish, Lucci
those who force you to pull it out ("but i've heard for every gray hair you pull out three others appear" "pull that thing out NOW")
❀ Nami, Page One, Hina, Who's Who, Mihawk, Sabo, Perona, Ulti
those who laugh in bald
❀ i... i can't think of any bald characters? damn

Hi!! I’m not sure how long ago it was but you wrote a Law x reader thing where when everyone meets up in Zou they also meet with a kunoichi who is a med ninja and I was just wondering if you’d be able to write something that’s sort of like a continuation where they’re already in wano?
Something maybe around the time where Luffy manages to steal that whole array of food and bring it to the poor town outside the flower capital (before he fights kaido and gets arrested) and while eveyone is there for a moment of down time Law and the fem med kunoichi get a chance to talk and confess their feelings for each other?
Feel free to change anything if it works better for you and thank you for all the amazing writing!!
Oh man that was a while ago! I remember it though and I’m glad you enjoyed it enough to want a continuation! Thank you for the kind words! 🥰
Warnings: Spoilers for Wano!!
*******
It took a few weeks to finally get to Wano and in that time Law built up feelings that he never knew he could’ve had while you were around. He enjoyed your company more than he imagined he would. He loved listening to your voice and it didn’t hurt that you were talking to him about Wano so he was getting information while it all came out of your mouth.
Law was being selfish. He could have stuck to his original plan, but when you came into the picture, his plan changed slightly. Being a ninja, you were familiar with Wano and the surrounding area. He decided that it would be best if you stayed with the crew instead of going in and getting information. Not to say that you hadn’t. But this way he’d, one, be able to learn more about Wano from you as well as things in the wild they should be avoiding, and two, be able to get to know his new crew member.
The first thing the two of you did together was showing him everything on Wano near the outskirts that no one could eat and the very few things that might be safe, but you still wouldn’t risk it. You told him about the terrible consequences of the poor soul who decided to eat.
“If anything, I’ll sneak into the Flower Capital to get us food. I know my way around and I wouldn’t want the Oniwabanshu seeing anyone. They sometimes do checks around the city to make sure everything is safe.” you told him, picking out some leaves and putting them in a small bag you had around your front.
“Right, the organization you told us on the way here that guards Orochi. You said you used to be part of them?”
You nodded. “Yeah. Since I was, I think it would be better for me to go anyway. I know where they hide in the city so it would just be easier. I really don’t want them seeing any of you either because,” you poked his chest that had his jolly roger tattoo, and then his kimono that had it as well, “you aren’t that hard to miss.” you say with a smile. “I just want you to be safe anyway. I want everyone to be safe, not just you.” your cheeks flush as you stumble on your words and you try to continue talking about the leaves and roots that could be used as medicine.
“And what makes you think I don’t want you to be safe either? I don’t exactly want you putting yourself in danger either.” He followed your lead, picking the leaves off the trees as well.
“I never said you didn’t, I would just rather be the one getting hurt than you. I have to keep my captain in one piece, right?” you smile at him and then look at the leaves in his hand. “I’ll start by telling you that that one right there isn’t going to do any good. The yellow line down that middle means that it’s dying so it’s not going to be useful. Plus it’s poisonous when it’s dead...so let’s not.” you brush it out of his hand and watch it fall to the ground.
“Guess I would’ve been dead then if you didn’t come along with me.”
“See? I’m keeping you safe! Aren’t you glad?” you grinned up at the tall man. “That’s my job!”
“If I’m not mistaken, I’m pretty sure it’s my job as a captain to do that.”
You smile hearing those words. Something about him saying that he’s the one that’s going to keep you safe makes your stomach flutter. “You definitely are mistaken though because I wouldn’t want anything happening to you when you’ve been taking such good care of me. I really appreciate it.”
“You say that like I wouldn’t think the same way.” Law made sure to walk ahead of you so you wouldn’t be able to see his face, knowing that it was heating up as the words came out of his mouth. He hated feeling embarrassed and he didn’t want to make it even by having you tease him if you saw. Law knew how much you took care of him as well. For the short amount of time you were on the sub, you seemed to understand that he was never the one to look after himself. The needs of the crew were always met first.
So when you were the one bringing him lunch when you saw he didn’t have the time, he took notice of that and he actually cherished the time that was spent with you-soaked every moment of it up like it was the last thing he could do.
“I’m keeping you safe and that’s that. I’m your Captain so don’t argue with me.” he said to you in a stern voice, though it was just a way of trying to mask how flustered he was becoming.
“Well you sure do sound passionate about keeping me safe~” you say teasingly as you catch up to him. “It’s the same reason I am. But don’t worry, I won’t make you say it outloud. Unless you want to deny it that is. Then by all means; you’re more than welcome to.” But you knew he wouldn’t so the silence made your stomach do flips knowing you got your answer.
His silence was welcomed as the two of you walked and collected the ingredients you pointed out. But it was broken after you had looked up at him with a sweet smile on your face and the words he spoke made your heart fill with joy.
“I guess I am pretty glad.”

#ONEPIECE1046
Chapter title: Raizo.
- I know a lot of people were disappointed when they saw the chapter title because they wanted more of Luffy's fight (and a lot of you don't like Raizo either) but personally, I am happy we got more of Raizo because of how important he was for both the minks and the Scabbards.
Anyways-
Okay, I usually don't talk much about the cover story but this one was super interesting (and some of them do end up being canon or part of the story so!!)
Tumblr media
A lot of people are debating who these two could ranging from the more predictable Germa 66 or even Blackbeard pirates - I'll join the prediction line of saying they (kind of?) look like revolutionary? I mean their shoes are definitely not Germa - so my first guess was the blackbeard piraates but the long coats and the silhouette is just giving me revolutionary and i don't know why so don't ask... I guess we'll see.
We start the chapter off with some Kaido vs. Luffy battle continuing, and Zunisha even saying/thinking (addressing it to Joy Boy): This all seems like fate. I can't help but think we should put our faith in this boy.
AND WE ALSO GET THE ICONIC, NEVER AGING, NEVER BORING SAYING
I AM MONKEY D. LUFFY, I WILL-
Tumblr media
And!! Oda legit told everyone who's talking about reincarnation and whatnot to shut up, everyone debating whether or not this is really Luffy, he is Luffy, and this is his awakening--
Kaido: "We call this an awakening. Your mind and body are finally able to harness the potential of your ability" --->
and this just leaves us questioning; when is Kaido's awakening coming? Because surely he has to do it now...
And we get some more exchanges of blows, and it's always interesting to see how Luffy can bend and control himself and his surroundings now with the awakening... bending himself like this, and even bending Kaido's body when he's punching him to give more effect to the punch
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE whenever we get those "they got me - i got them moments" - We got Kaido saying that everyone's gonna burn to death in the inferno below and Luffy just says
"I left it all to them, I've got nothing to worry about."
AND AGAIN- I just want to repeat that I LOVE this fight, it's just a blend of serious, and really really goofy and I love every part of it
Like c'mon look at this
Tumblr media
Anyways... so currently everything is on fire in Onigashima. Bepo and crew are complaining about the heat - and just can we just take a moment to discuss how they've done... nothing? like they're yelling for Law to come and save them but they've seriously done nothing and to me, at this point, if Bepo were to ever go Sulong and do something it's more of a "finally" than a "wow" moment. yeah. we'll see.
We've got a little bit more of all of the crew, Nami and Chopper are together, Robin and Brook still running, Usopp trying everything he can to stop the fire to save Kiku and Kinemon, and
Sanji with his cute little rat Chuuji
Tumblr media
And Franky carrying passed out Zoro who needs urgent care from Chopper (😭😭😭😭😭😭)
Tumblr media
ALSO!! We get shown Apoo and Ibi again, and remember we said they could be the samurai prisoners imprisoned with Yamato in the past? That theory still holds up, because why else show them this much...
Tumblr media
The connection has to be coming...
And then we finally get to the man of the hour, Raizo!!
The fire is everywhere, no one can escape it and people are going crazy - that's when Oda gives Raizo the opportunity to save everybody on Onigashima, and repay the debt of everyone saving and protecting him -
He teams up with Jinbe to put an end to the fire - and because he has the Maki Maki fruit (scroll scroll) he has the ability to store things and what did he store? The water that Zunisha uses to wash it's back - So he uses Elephant Bath Restoration and paired with Jinbe's Ocean Current Should Throw they manage to send the water flooding everywhere to put out the fire.
Tumblr media
Despite my Ninjutsu, I was unable to protect any of them. I can never make up for that failure, but I will never let myself be that helpless again!! Never!!
And now we know that the preparation undertaken in chapter 1041 that Raizo was speaking of has nothing to do with Denjiro, which leaves the question - where the hell is Denjiro?
PS. Can we also talk about how this means that Raizo has had water on hand for this long and refused to save himself from the fire during his fight? He's extremely strong, and extremely underappreciated.
We know Momonosuke still has to create flame clouds, so we're waiting on that, I still hold on the hopes and dreams that Zoro will get up and we'll get answers on whatever happens to the Grim Reaper-
We know Kaido is at his limit now, so predicting the fight will officially end in about 4-5 chapters- when will we get awakening though? Hm.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST
Tumblr media
WE GET THIS RANDOM PANEL OF LUFFY HOLDING ON TO A LIGHTNING BOLT? TO STRIKE KAIDO WITH???? HE IS SO COOL
And could this mean we could potentially get a Nami-Luffy Combo someday`?
With that said, break next week. This chapter was great, and I'll see you in two weeks for another cry-

Chapter 1050 — Honor
And the conclusion! Finally!
German’s Cold Blooded Voyage is great, really enjoying Anana
Tumblr media
And then.
The conclusion.
Tumblr media
A touch of Star Wars’ “let’s drop them in a pit of death” going on, but illustrated with a lovely section drawing.
I like the shifting from black and grey to the more contrasting and illuminating white glow of the underworld as Kaido breaks through the Earth.
However, those chutes cracking up from Law’s pit of death don’t look too good, leading all that heat up to the sea.
Tumblr media
Two things about this page.
First, I really like the symmetry of Kaido and Luffy. There’s the neat layout of the text panels, with the revision of the earlier statement that Kaido won. Both have fought to their limit and are on the threshold of death: one will pass it and the other will keep on living. Kaido is drawn in stark contrast, with heavy whites and greys and blacks, while Luffy is drawn bruised and unconscious, yes, but with the same light lines he’s usually depicted with.
Second, there’s the whole juxtaposition of the Flower Capital. They have been celebrating the one night of the year they can; their breather of freedom. They have no idea what’s been happening in the skies above, but mere hopes and whispers of rumours; “did you hear that there’s a raid on Onigashima tonight?”
Onigashima still towers over it, but so does Momo. Momo’s dragon coils rise to the top of the palace in the city, showing how he’s grown and how he now can protect it: he’s big enough, both physically and mentally (in this moment at least; he’s still an eight year old brat at heart).
Tumblr media
Damn you Oda for making me cry, again, for Yasuie.
Tumblr media
And all the happy people! They’ve won!
I wonder what Apoo’s fate will be. He betrayed them but was then betrayed himself and then fought with Drake against CP0….who knows.
And where is Drake? I hope he makes it.
Speaking of…
Tumblr media
Not looking good for a whole bunch of people. Poor Chopper, getting so overwhelmed his eyes turn to spirals :(
Going slightly in the wrong order here due to narrative, but I just really like the composition of these panels:
Tumblr media
They depict two completely different places in the castle, but are still clearly showing the general victorious mood. Of course, the noise in the background is the visual thread, but the grey shading on Hyogoro and Komachiyo helps glue them together as well. Furthermore, the poses, obviously, are all the same with the exception of Mr Cool Pineapple over there — but even he and Hyogoro, the old foxes who’ve seen a battle or two, have the same pose and face!
And the battle is definitely over.
Tumblr media
Pool of Magma? Well, a more certain death than Chasm of Death on the Deathstar.
Great contrast in the panel, horrible visual.
And nice how the tangible leftovers of Kaido’s reign are trembling! His time really is over.
Tumblr media
And speaking of, this whole page is great.
You have a teeny, tiny Zunesha in the corner there, to show just how humongous the explosion is. You have a gentle smile on Luffy’s face: he can rest now.
And the great introduction of Momo to the citizens of Wano!
Remember, this is how the night was supposed to end in Kaido’s original plan. Onigashima, crashing down and a great dragon in the skies, crushing their one moment of freedom under the yoke of New Onigashima.
Tumblr media
And of course, the living ghosts who again walk this Earth.
Great chapter!
I give it a star for storytelling and a high-five for art.

Romance Dawn for the East Blue
Inspired by @feriowind‘s blessed tweet about Yamato winding up on Dawn Island :)
Enjoy 4k words of the 4 brothers driving everyone  crazy :D
[Read on AO3 or below the cut]
----------
Slowly blinking awake, Yamato struggled to remember why he was lying on the beach of some strange island, the smell of sea salt and trash mixing in the air into something almost worse than the confines of his prison of Onigashima. Almost. It was still freedom after all, and Yamato would gladly take this disgusting smell over his father threatening to place bombs on his wrists.
Looking around groggily, his eyes finally fell on the sad, wooden remains of a small boat, a boat that Yamato had been using to sail this unfamiliar sea during the past weeks. And he finally remembered the terrible events that had led him to this island.
Yes, it was a dark, stormy night, the likes of which Yamato had never seen even in the unpredictable New World, and definitely not since his escape in the peaceful and calm East Blue. He had fought to keep his boat from capsizing, fighting against the strong winds and ocean currents all by himself for hours… but then suddenly, a Neptunian so large it could only have come from the Calm Belt appeared. Yamato had managed to fight it off but unfortunately, his boat suffered too much damage from the power of his Thunder Bagua. He was then forced to swim to the nearest shore with the last bits of strength he had left—
"I saw the Lord of the Coast attack the fishing boat this person was sleeping in. It was really funny, when they woke up, they screamed so loud I think even the people in Fuusha heard. And then they fell in the water while trying to stand up. But the idiot apparently can't swim so I had to go fish them out."
Yamato froze in place at the boyish voice who was retelling his heroic battle so rudely. Wasn't he allowed to at least pretend?
Another boy, this one sounding even younger, started snickering then. "I like this person, Sabo! They’re so funny!"
"Luffy, you're the last one who should be laughing here," a third voice sighed. "Anchor boy." Yamato could almost hear the cheeky smirk on his face as he teased this 'Luffy'.
“Don’t call me that!” the youngest one cried, sounding like he was about to fight the other boy.
“Ace, don’t provoke him,” the first boy chided. “You’ll wake the idiot with your fighting.”
That was it.
“Will you stop calling me an idiot?!” Yamato shouted as he sprung up to a sitting position, an embarrassed blush on his face.
They all paused at the sudden movement, blinking up at him in shock. Yamato glowered at them one by one, taking note of how tiny these kids were—the blond and the freckled one looked no older than 12, while the other could be maybe 8. The blond was the only one dripping in water, just as much as Yamato himself was, and Yamato could only assume this was Sabo, the one who had pulled him out of the water. That would make Freckles ‘Ace’, and the youngest one ‘Luffy’.
Yamato had to wonder, though, how Sabo was able to save him all by himself. Yamato was 16 years old, a lot older than however old these boys were, and he was Kaido’s son—meaning he was already much taller than some adults. Although, he supposed he had seen stranger things and people a lot stronger than a human their size should have been. An image of Oden during his execution came to mind immediately but Yamato quickly chased the memory away.
“Oh look, the idiot’s awake,” Ace said lazily, looking thoroughly unimpressed by Yamato’s glare and simply returning it with one of his own.
Luffy, on the other hand, grinned brightly, hopping over to Yamato to stare up at him with stars in his eyes. “Are those horns? Real ones?”
Blinking, Yamato’s hand automatically reached up to touch one of his horns. “Yeah?” he replied slowly, unsure of what he was supposed to say. Was it that weird to people not from the Grand Line to see someone with features like this?
“That’s so cool! Join my pirate crew!” His grin only widened with his request—or demand.
Yamato tilted his head to the side. “You have a pirate crew?” he asked, genuinely curious.
“Well, not yet,” Luffy said, a small pout appearing on his lips. “But eventually, I will be the Pirate King so of course I will have one!” he announced looking so proud and sure of himself and Yamato felt his lips twitch upward.
“Sure, King, I’ll tag along with you,” he laughed, seeing no harm in indulging the adorable kid. And who knew? Maybe he really would end up sailing with him. After all, in 12 years, the Nine Red Scabbards would come back to Wano and Yamato needed to be back there by then. He needed to help open the country.
And who was to say he couldn’t bring the Pirate King with him?
Sabo clicked his tongue then, walking up to Luffy and ruffling his hair. “Stop that, you don’t even know this person’s name.”
“Oh right,” Yamato said, hitting t he palm of his hand with his fist in sudden realization. “Sorry. I’m Kozuki Oden. You can also call me Yamato. Son of Kaido. Thanks for helping me.”
----------
“Ace! Luffy! What’s the meaning of this?!”
Yamato groaned; always a wonderful way to wake up. “Are you drunk again, you bull-gorilla? Go away it’s too early for this,” he shouted back, not even bothering to open his eyes.
There was a moment of silence until someone stomped over to stand right above Yamato’s head. “What did you just call me, you brat?”
Finally, Yamato blinked up at the person with long ginger hair, a cigarette between their lips, and looking decidedly female. He closed his eyes again, mumbling, “Oh you’re not my father. Whatever then.” As soon as he was done, he pulled his blanket over his head to try and get some more peace and quiet.
It might not have been his father but it still was too early for this.
“Dadan, shut up,” some one whined from somewhere around halfway down Yamato’s body.
“Yeah, what’s the problem?” another person joined in, their voice coming from Yamato’s other side.
Oh right. Ace, Sabo, and Luffy had brought him back to their place last night; this had to be the nasty old hag they mentioned. Definitely seemed like one.
“First Garp drops you two on me, then you bring in more and more kids with you? What do you expect me to do, this isn’t a daycare!” It sounded like the woman was on the verge of a mental breakdown.
Finally, Sabo spoke up, sounding about as sleepy as Yamato felt, “Dadan, this is our brother, Yamao. Yamao, Dadan.” With that, he flopped back down, his head coming to rest against Yamato’s thigh.
“I’m not a pillow, you three!” Yamato snapped upon the realization of how the boys were laying with their limbs thrown all over the place, Yamato’s own body included. “And it’s Ya-ma-to,” he added with a sigh, already giving giving up on convincing them to not use Luffy’s nickname.
“Where the hell did you manage to pick up another brother,” Dadan complained and Yamato was starting to feel a little sorry for her. He had to admit that dealing with these three was like fighting a hurricane and it hasn’t even been 24 hours since he met them. At least now he was there, a responsible teenager to keep them in check. She should really be grateful he happened to… choose this island to land on.
“Alright, kid. I don’t care who you are you where you came from—” the woman paused, folding her arms over her chest as she stared down and Yamato— “but I will not feed you. One bowl of rice per day is all I can guarantee you.”
Yamato laughed, “That’s not necessary. Oden could do it, I would be a disgrace if I couldn’t take care of myself and my brothers, too.”
Dadan stared at him for a moment, blinking once, twice, before she threw he hands up in frustration. As she walked away, Yamato could hear her mumbling to herself about stupid brats who couldn’t be phased by anything and how she was going to ‘let Garp have it’ the next time he ‘bothered to show his sorry ass’ there.
Yamato simply shrugged and went back to sleep.
----------
Life on Dawn Island turned out to be surprisingly easy and, even more surprisingly, fun. It didn’t take Yamato long to get to know the forest, the mountain, and the Grey Terminal beyond it, running around the place with his little brothers like he was born there with them.
“Yamao, where are you going, that’s the opposite direction!” Sabo called after him in exasperation, pointing the right way.
A few days after his arrival, he went to retrieve his kanabo from the waters just off the shore. Ace had looked at him, asking why he was so desperate if it was the same weapon the father he so hated used and Yamato couldn’t admit he had a point but… he simply didn’t feel right without it. It was his weapon as well now, and the bull-gorilla wouldn’t take that away from him.
It took him three hours of diving but the happiness and rightness of his kanabo next to him was well worth the effort.
“What are you two anchors doing?” Ace shouted from where he was in the water and towards the two at the beach, looking incredibly annoyed.
Yamato and Luffy exchanged a glance before turning back to Ace and replying in unison, “Building a pirate ship from sand.”
Just then, Sabo’s head popped out of the water next to Ace. “I need a break,” he gasped, struggling to catch his breath after being underwater for so long.
“This club of yours better be made from gold, Yamao, or so help me,” Ace grumbled before leaving Sabo to rest and diving in instead.
Once he had his kanabo in hand, it became incredibly easy to hunt even the most ferocious beasts around, allowing Yamato enough room to stay back and direct the young brothers, giving them pointers and helping them with their hunting techniques. Usually, he simply watched, letting the boys do most of the hunt, even if it meant the prey got away sometimes. After all, making mistakes and losing was a good way to get stronger. So he let them do their own thing while making sure they were okay, and only jumping in when necessary.
“Okay, here’s the plan. We go around the river, then we split up. Me and Luffy will go up while you and Ace follow the riverbed. It’s risky, but on my signal, you will catch its attention and keep it distracted. Then me and Luffy jump down at its head. Hopefully that will at least knock it out so you and Ace can then come help us finish it. And Yamao—” Sabo paused, giving Yamato a hard, subtly threatening look— “if you run ahead screaming and scare it off again, we’re having you for dinner.”
Yamato could only gulp and nod obediently.
He even managed to impress the local Madonna, the cute pub owner Makino. The first time she had come to visit after Yamato had arrived, she immediately dropped all the food, alcohol, and children’s clothes that she had brought, and ran straight to him. She gave him all of her attention the rest of her stay. And even though Yamato wasn’t interested, he had to admit that being fawned over, and especially the jealous stares all the bandits were giving him, felt great.
“Oh my,” Makino muttered when she noticed Yamato. “Luffy did say Yamao was a little taller than him but…” she trailed off, her expression turning troubled.
“You don’t have any clothes big enough for him, do you?” Dogra asked, munching on one of the cones Makino had brought.
The young woman shook her head, sighing, “I think I’ll have to make them all from scratch. Yamao, can you come here? I need to take some measurements.”
"Yamao, you're blushing more than Ace did!" Luffy pointed out immediately, clutching his stomach as he doubled over in laughter.
Yamato made sure his hand was coated in haki when he hit the boy over the head.
Over all, he had to say he much prefered the life of a cool big brother over being a pirate crew’s' ‘young master’. It was a lot more fun, a lot easier to breathe. He never felt more free than he did while laughing and running around the mountain, plotting pranks on their brothers with Ace, or getting grounded— getting thanked by Sabo for running off and beating up the pathetic excuses for pirates who had hurt Luffy and threatened the boys' treasure stash.
Even Dadan's frustrated screaming felt more loving than anything the bull-gorilla of a biological parent had ever shown him. And no, it definitely wasn’t much more embarrassing.
----------
"I don't want to be a marine!" Luffy screamed one morning just as the others were getting ready to head out to work their brand new tree house base.
Both Sabo and Ace froze, turning to stare at each other for a moment with wide eyes.
"Run?" Ace asked in a whisper.
"Run," Sabo nodded seriously before they both turned to look at Yamato.
The teen simply sat there, turning his confused gaze between Ace, Sabo, and the direction from which Luffy's voice came a few seconds earlier. "What's going on?"
Ace and Sabo exchanged a glance once more, seemingly coming to a mutual understanding before Ace answered, "Go see for yourself. Luffy could probably use the help."
Immediately, Yamato was on his feet, heading outside to save his adorable baby brother from whatever monster he was facing. He was slightly suspicious of the high five Ace and Sabo had exchanged, not as sneakily as they probably thought, but as long as Luffy was in trouble, it didn't matter much to him.
As soon as he made it outside the little house, his eyes fell on the two figures fighting just a little bit away from the house. Obviously, one of them was Luffy, who was visibly fuming; growling and snapping his teeth like he was getting ready to literally bite the legs off of his target.
The target in question was a tall, although obviously much shorter than Yamato, and muscular old man clad in a bright red and white aloha shirt, his arms crossed over his chest as he stared Luffy down. He looked thoroughly unimpressed by Luffy’s pistol punches—which admittedly still left much to be desired despite Yamato’s efforts to help him out; it was only a question of time before he managed to find the right bang feeling. The man he was fighting looked vaguely familiar but Yamato couldn’t place that face no matter how much he wrecked his brain.
But it didn’t matter.
“Luffy, are you okay?!” Yamato called in alarm, rushing forward while preparing to swing his kanabo at the stranger.
The both of them turned to look at him then, identical angry expressions on their faces and suddenly, Yamato realized who the man reminded him of. It was more than obvious where Luffy got his personality and expressions. Maybe he should… not attack this person on sight?
Making the decision for him, Luffy huffed upon seeing him approach, raising his hand and making Yamato stop. “Stay back, I’m fine! I can kick gramps’ ass myself!”
“Who’s ass are you gonna kick?” the man snapped, his light punch making Luffy clutch at his head. “You can’t win against the fist of love, Luffy!”
Yamato blinked. That was obviously haki but… fist of love?
Ignoring Luffy’s complaints, the man gave Yamato an obvious once over. “And who are you? Wait—” he paused, looking like he just remembered something— “you’re Yamao, aren’t you?”
“My name is Ya-ma-to, and I’m Luffy’s big brother,” Yamato replied, not entirely sure why he even bothered to correct anyone on his name at this point. No one ever listened.
“Part of the family already, hm? You have an impressive swing; you’ll make a fine marine.” The grandfather nodded, grinning at Yamato in approval.
Yamato did a double take. “I’m not going to be a marine!” he responded immediately, the horror he felt at the though clear in his voice.
“Exactly! We’re gonna be pirates!” Luffy joined in, fully recovered and launching a new rubbery pistol punch, which went completely ignored.
Gramps puffed up, raising his fist threateningly in front of himself. “Nonsense! All four of you will be the strongest marines the navy’s ever had if I have any say in it!”
“No way!” Luffy and Yamato cried in unison, the both of them jumping at the man in a joint attack.
A second later the both of them were rolling on the ground together, clutching at their heads and trying to recover from yet another fist of love. Seriously, Yamato only just met this guy, why was he getting a fist of love? Or better yet, why did it sound like he was already considered a grandson? He didn’t even know his new grandfather’s name.
He guessed it was simply one more proof of his relation to Luffy. It was exactly the same to when Luffy had decided by himself that Yamato was the big brother now, not even half an hour after meeting him, and just like back then, Yamato was powerless in defying that decision.
Not like he wanted to. He would be lying if he said being considered family so easily, so warmly, so unconditionally didn’t make him happy. But still…
“I’m already a pirate,” he growled. Not to mention marines did nothing but fight Oden and the Pirate King’s crew. Like hell was he becoming one of them.
Gramps took a deep breath, looking like he was about to explode, but Yamato interrupted him. “The navy wouldn’t want someone with my blood anyway. They’d execute me on the spot,” he said flatly, looking the man straight in the eyes, trying to convey how disgusted by the institution, the world government, the current world he was. Like hell was he participating in that. He’d much rather wait patiently for the one who was going to change it all and support them.
Neither of them said anything for a moment, neither of them faltering as they stared each other down silently. Until finally, gramps grinned, a smile so similar to Luffy’s that Yamato startled.
“If blood’s the problem, all the more reason you should join,” he announced, the smile never leaving his face even as his eyes turned almost sad.
Yamato tilted his head to the side as he watched the man slowly look at Luffy before his eyes slid in the direction of the bandits’ house. When Yamato turned to look, he could see Ace turning around and walking away, Sabo quickly following with a worried expression on his face.
Well.
At least Yamato wasn’t the only one who obviously hated his biological family around here.
Deciding to leave Ace in Sabo’s hands, Yamato turned back to the problem at hand but before he could snap at the man, Luffy did so for him, “No. He’s joining my crew!”
“Over my dead body!” gramps roared in response, looking like he was going to go off on a rant.
Yamato, however, wasn’t about to sit around and listen to that. “No, over my dead body. Do you even hear how fucked up it is that you need to join the navy to be safe from getting hunted? Neither of us going there,” he growled, baring his teeth for good measure.
The old man paused, blinking at Yamato once, then twice, before he burst out in laughter, one so loud, so honest, and so contagious that, despite having no idea what was so funny, it made even Yamato want to laugh. All his anger was forgotten as his lips stretched in a grin, shaking his head at the sudden realization of how weird this entire situation was. He barely knew what was even happening but… it wasn’t like Yamato ever really paused to think about things. If it felt right, he’d go with it. If it didn’t, fuck it.
And this, incredibly, felt right.
It was only a long while later that gramps finally caught his breath enough to speak, “I like you, kid. Are you sure you’re Kaido’s son?”
As if hit by the bull-gorilla’s Thunder Bagua, Yamato stopped laughing, only staring with an open mouth as dread ran through him. “How?” he could only say after a dreadfully long moment of heavy silence. Or maybe it was only a second. But it was too much, and made Yamato feel too on edge. Ready to fight. He didn’t want to even hear the bull-gorilla’s name; definitely didn’t want to hear it in relation to himself.
Gramps looked at him as if asking if he was kidding then, but with his only answer being a glare, he started laughing anew. “Kid, if you don’t want people to know, or the asshole finding you, maybe stop introducing yourself with ‘son of Kaido’ to anyone you meet. You have poor Makino quite worried.”
Oh.
Whoops?
“Yamao, you’re stupid,” Luffy laughed.
The teen huffed, shoving hard at Luffy’s shoulder. “You’re stupid,” he hissed back, making Luffy stick his tongue out at him.
Yamato saw it only fair he do the same in return.
Just then, a dark shadow loomed over the both of them and they slowly looked up, only to see gramps looking down at them with an evil grin on his face, slowly cracking his knuckles. “Whatever you say, I will train you stupid brats into proper marines, yet.”
Yamato finally understood why Ace and Sabo’s immediate reaction was to run, then send Yamato as what he could now only assume being a sacrifice. There was no way even Yamato was going to be a fair match for this man. “Oh fuck,” Yamato cursed, scrambling to his feet to follow Luffy, who who was already hafway down the clearing away after taking the first popped knuckle as his signal to bolt.
“Watch your fucking language in front of your baby brothers!” gramps shouted after him just before something that might have been a pine cone flew past him at an impossible speed.
Yamato and Luffy exchanged a glance, identical grins spreading in their lips before they both took a deep breath. “ACE! SABO! HELP!!”
If they were to die today, they’d make sure to take the other two down with them.
----------
Hours later, Yamato lay awake in his bed on the floor of the mountain bandits’ cabin long after his brothers started snoring softly. He was exhausted from the day spent laughing and running away from gramps—or Garp, as he had finally learned earlier that evening once Dadan finally stopped hiding from the man—but as opposed to the others, he didn’t want to sleep.
Not when gramps and Dadan were busy talking on the other side of this thin wall. What had started as the two of them sharing their frustrations and complaints about their kids quickly turned into fondness as they instead told each other stories about the brothers and their antics. Yamoto wasn’t surprised the bandit knew exactly where their secret base was, just as he wasn’t surprised by Garp only pulling out the most embarrassing stories he probably could.
It was a good thing the other three had managed to pass out the second their heads hit their pillows or they’d be trying to fight the old man all over again over it.
Yamato, on the other hand, refused to miss out on a second of this. The adults might not have allowed him to drink with them, claiming Yamato was too young for that—to which he not-so-politely disagreed, but then Garp’s fist disagreed with him—but they couldn’t stop him from listening. Those were his brothers they were talking about and he wanted to hear all about the past ten years of their lives that he had missed.
And if he maybe got a little bit happy every time they brought Yamato up, well… no one had to know that.
“Yamao, I swear if you don’t stop laughing at their shitty stories, I will strangle you with your own hair.”
