with All In coming up, I need fans that only know Kota as Kennys insane boyfriend and Jay as the silly Bullet Club bastard to know about their history with each other (and Kenny/Hangman) which spans 5 years at this point, even more if you count in Jays time as a trainee in njpw (2015/16), so he like.. watched and learned from them all – anyways lets go with the rambling recap

Starting with Jays first title win and how it came to that: early 2018, Kenny was in the midst of a power struggle in Bullet Club, his relationship with Cody was getting more strenuous by the day and the non Elite BC members were getting tired of their BS.

Kenny, trying to legitimise his position as a leader, thought recruiting new promising talent to his side would help, so he offered a young Switchblade Jay White “the opportunity of a lifetime”.

Jay accepted, only to attack him right after, and with that nothing could stop the threads holding Kennys BC together from rapidly unravelling.

Kenny would lose his US Heavyweight Championship to White soon after, and in the aftermath of the match even more. Hangman, finally taking a step out of his friend's shadow, got all up in Jays space, snatched the belt and obviously implied a challenge, but Kenny wouldnt have any of that. He pushed Adam aside and gave Jay his price back. (to the surprise of the crowd who expected Kenny to be more bitter apparently lol)

Enter Cody. Opportunistic and sinister as he was at the time he immediately stoked the flames, snapping at Kenny why he wouldnt let Hangman have that moment.

They seem to talk it out but whoops, Cody attacks Kenny after all, Adam helping him.

They are about to lay him out as Ibushi runs to Kennys aid, finally giving us the reunion people have been waiting for years.

In the following months a lot happens, Adam gets his match with Jay (and is read to filth by him - it’s essential to watch that promo, here) but doesnt succeed, the Golden Lovers and Young Bucks have an emotional feud, Cody continues being a menace with Hangman at his side, Kenny finally wins the IWGP Heavyweight belt, the Golden Elite was formed, Cody is a sad lil bitch now, they were all kinda friends again, oh and Bullet Club split fr*.

[*On one side you had Kenny and his friends, on the other BC originals Bad Luck Fale, Tama Tonga plus his younger brothers and technically their dad? Things were kinda messy but thats technically the BC that stayed in Japan and made Jay White their leader. The last real appearance of the Elite as BC was at the inaugural All In, their indie PPV.]

Alright end of 2018/beginning of 2019 - Kenny loses his IWGP belt at Wrestle Kingdom (njpws wrestlemania) and quietly leaves NJPW with the Bucks, Cody and Hangman, starting AEW (things behind the scenes didnt work out as expected and nooj didn’t wanna cooperate with them at first)

So yeah. Ibushi. He was all alone again, but in the summer of 2019 finally manages what he was so close to in the previous year: winning the G1 tournament.

He faced Jay White in the finals, who at that point firmly held Kennys position as Bullet Club leader and is the top gaijin of the company.

Both him and Ibushi were together with Kazuchika Okada and Tetsuya Naito the top of NJPW. And all four would be involved in the main events of the following Wrestle Kingdom. Jay and Okada as titleholders, Naito and Ibushi as challengers.

Well neither Jay or Kota came out victorious on the first WK night, but the following day, in a match for third place, Jay defeated Ibushi, making the latter the biggest loser of the event,,

Covid caused quite a mess in the following months - their next singles meeting wouldn't be till late 2020, during that years G1, where Jay gets another win over the Golden Star

but is unable to reach the finals, in contrast to Ibushi, who wins the whole tournament for a second time.

Jay doesn't wait and immediately brings up Kotas loss to him, demanding a match for the WK contract he's just won.

Alright bada bing bada boom Ibushi-

LOSES??

Yeah to the shock of everyone Jay actually managed to put himself in the main event for the following WK, thinking he'll face double champ Naito to dethrone him .. but Naito still wanted to face the G1 winner so Kota got his title shot regardless lol

so yeah we got Ibushi vs Naito on night one, and whoever wins that on day two against Jay

In complete contrast to the previous WK Ibushi would not only be victorious on the first night, but also finally beat Jay for good, becoming the undisputed double champ, and God. (their words not mine)

Which absolutely broke White, giving us a glimpse at whats really going on in the "Switchblade". He's so obsessed with success, finally wanting HIS moment, his era, and despite everything he's sacrificed it doesn't seem to happen..

He'd show up for one last "contractually obligated" match, battered and bruised, taking the pin in a multiman tag match between Bullet Club and Chaos, before leaving everyone in the dark for month about whats next for him.

He'd stick with NJPW for two more years, returning even more unhinged than he already was.

Kota would go on with his reign as double champ, till NJPW unified the titles to create the IWGP World Championship (a highly unpopular move with the fans), which he's the inaugural champion for.

Jay would try his best in the New Japan Cup in hopes of getting another shot at Ibushi, but fall short in the quarterfinals - new focus new goal, he goes for the NEVER Openweight title, and becomes the first ever NJPW "Quadruple Crown" champ, having already held the IWGP US, Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championship at that point.

Ibushi, now with the IWGP World Championship, has his first proper defense with the new singles belt .. and loses to 2021 NJ Cup winner Will Ospreay, cutting his reign shorter than anyone expected.

His bad luck doesnt end there tho, despite making it to the G1 finals for the fourth time in a row, he breaks his arm in said match and is unable to continue. He'll not appear in a NJPW ring again. Mistreatment by staff which caused serious trouble in his private life has him decide against re-signing with the company.

Jay in the meantime would shake things up overseas, defending his NEVER title, debut in IMPACT, be on weird terms with the Elite, lose the NEVER title, debut in AEW, oh and not return to Japan. For a full year, missing out on key events, which had even his BC mates start asking questions.

After some rearranging within the club (kicking out old and recruiting new members) he’d finally return to Japan in the summer of 2022, swiftly dethroning IWGP World champ Okada, Jays last title reign in NJPW (youve might seen his first defence, at Forbidden door against Hangman, Cole and Okada).

He’d hold the title till early 2023 and in good old switchblade fashion be this 👌 close to realising his errors, only to blame everyone else and lose his mind over it, getting involved in a “loser leaves Japan” match against Hikuleo (who had turned his back on Jay) and afterwards, cause that somehow wasnt enough, a “loser leaves NJPW” match against Eddie Kingston. And thats how we got Jay White in AEW, mf is in exile and acts like nothing ever happened lmao

Ibushi, whos last match had been in October 2021, would finally return to the ring in March 2023, at Josh Barnetts 9th Bloodsport event, and make his AEW debut at Blood and Guts, reuniting with Kenny, the Bucks and Hangman as the Golden Elite :)

So yeah both Kota and Jay had quite different paths (that crossed a lot) towards AEW, and as someone who's been watching them for so long now I'm absolutely giddy to see them face one another again - if youd have told me a year ago that I'd get to see Kota and Jay in the same ring again, cause of KENNY of all things, I'd have imploded on the spot (positive)

(the Widely Established Fanlore of it all XD) although that's also been also been folding in the face of. all the colin posts (like Specifically colin too past even colin+raphaniel or colin+deli). like they fell for the cr bait so hard- group of fans starved for mlm content based on their typical cr diet, see a guy (Just Some Guy) looking the way he was, see his mysterious past and divorce and arc and glowup and post-divorce talks and. yknow. whaddya gonna do. that's all they're gonna talk about when the EXPLICITLY mlm radish priest who's been grooming that VERY SAME cheese guy for five years is right there.

now for my thoughts about the plot and pacing of ravening war

I do not like that this season (that was supposed to be about a war covering 7+ years of intense political conflict and full-scale warfare involving every country in the continent) got boiled down to 2 massive timeskips & 3 battle episodes of five guys fucking around in a cave because the entire war was actually started by a secret cult. there were no battles involving the actual war + 1 skill check for entire 5 years at a time + almost nothing politics wise + they missed the ENTIRE climatic final push for the end of the war because they were underground. it's so poorly paced, I really don't know what to say. am I the crazy one here for wanting a season about the ravening war to be about the war? it just doesn't feel like the characters had any impact on the plot past episode 3 and they ONLY because they kill the queen of candia because a cult told them to. because we get alliances forged and broken and conflicts ended and rulers crowned within the span of a single sentence from the DM before we chug back off to the mycelium hivemind main plot. hot take but every season does not in fact need a plot twist big bad to fight

all of the characters in the season are genuinely the most interesting characters I've seen in YEARS. it's a goddamn shame we didn't get to spend more time with them. it sucks that each of them brought so much intrigue and backstory to the war, but every single one of them ended up contributing not much at all to the scale of the campaign because, again, the final boss turned out to be a cult within the top secret cult of mushrooms that was ALREADY a secret but there is also ANOTHER, more powerful deity to fight in the very last episode. we needed more episodes, or less time spent on battles. we needed to not bring on a DM known for having all the time in the world to wrap up years-long campaigns in 5 hour chunks at a time, for a 6 ep miniseason. we did not need two more powerscaled deities for no reason to a war that should have been about the people and not... random alien eldritch forces. we needed closure on amangeaux's child, we needed to know WHY raphaniel was poisoning the king and starting a war in the first place. aabria wrote a whole essay about karna's backstory that I would've loved to see in the show itself, but... we didn't get to see it! there were almost no politics. we did get 4 separate secret underground mushroom fights though. in a campaign about a war.

"real life is messy! not everything gets wrapped up neatly! it reflects real wars!" this is a dnd show sir and when you spend 20 minutes out of 12 hours of content actually talking politics and the rest of the time fucking around with mushrooms in a cave, it starts to look less like a deliberate artistic choice and more like poorly paced plot threads that didn't get a chance to finish.

Any idea about how the timeline of TWST would even look??? With the events, vignettes and Books?

Like, actual dates and such? I saw some comments saying that Yana confirmed that all begins in late September, but you can’t be serious that Riddle recovered that quickly from a OB.

Hi, let me start off by saying that, in regards to book 1, it does indeed take place in late September (as Yana herself has stated). On the subject of Overblots, all of the OB boys (Riddle included) revert back to their normal forms after they are defeated in battle. That (I guess) technically counts as recovery, doesn't it (since they're no longer in their OB forms)? I'm assuming that the OB students are not immediately sentenced back to classwork (where they may be putting themselves in further danger by exerting their bodies to use more magic). They're probably put in a probation period and/or monitored closely before they're given the clearance to go back to using magic. After all, it usually only takes regular rest, meals, and relaxing to restore one's magic and to ease away blot. Now, about the rest of the ask!! I won't be putting together a timeline. It would be a different matter entirely if I was being asked to just do this for the main story and maybe events (a lot of events, especially sequels or birthdays, could be lumped into the same general time frames), but all vignettes as well? That's where I draw the line. Right now, there are over 100 vignettes in Twisted Wonderland, and it's simply NOT feasible to comb through each one individually and seek out context clues for when the vignettes may be happening. Not only that, but I know for a fact that not every vignette will have clues about when they are taking place. I'm sorry, but no one has the time to do that, certainly not me 💦

Frankly, putting together a single comprehensive timeline for TWST is an impossible task. I know that there's been many fans who have tried their hand at this (and I applaud them for their efforts! It's nothing to sneeze at), but it's just not able to be feasibly done. There is no arrangement which neatly puts everything together in a way that makes total sense. (It would also be a VERY chaotic year if all the TWST content that has been released so far happened in the span of less than one year in which the main story occurs.) There will always be inconsistencies in how the characters act or what other details are referenced which will contradict where they are placed in the timeline. (For example, why is Epel friendly with Vil during the Halloween events in autumn when Epel didn't get his character development and learn to respect Vil until book 7 in like... early spring? It cannot be the Halloween after book 5 because Vil would be gone on his internship.) This is also an issue that the TWST devs themselves have, so Yana Toboso basically came out and said that vignettes and events happen in their own alternate timelines separate from that of the main story. (For example, Fairy Gala: If isthe event that is most obviously an alternate retelling of the original Fairy Gala; if this event were occurring after the other, the characters would be commenting on “why is this happening again”.)

At best, you'll be able to guess season, months, or general spans of time; there are rarely concrete dates granted (excluding birthdays, Halloween, Sam's New Year Sale, and/or NRC Founding Day/Anniversary). I also want to note that a lot of people tend to assume the Ceremonial Robes vignettes are all set before the entrance ceremony, but this is not necessarily true as we have outliers like Deuce’s vignettes which indicate he is wearing his robes for a special ceremony other than the opening one.

I would recommend researching yourself, maybe looking into timelines other people have made for fun. Just don't get too caught up in the technicalities and please be aware that the "perfect" and "contradiction-free" TWST timeline does not exist.

It was early in the morning. Usually staff had free range even if it was surprising for such an intense security place. Brenner saw it as "they live hear for years at least make it a home" even if it was under strict conditions

You wake up take a shower in the Girls Bathroom and get ready, your white outfit looking extra white, freshly cleaned after the mess you made with helping Peter. The pants fit nicely and the button up shirt was just another shitty thing to wear, the nurces got to wear cute skirts but not general staff. You exit your room and walk down the halls to find Peters, with a slow knock you hear a

"Come in" opening the door you see Peter buttoning up the shirt you hated. But not on him..it was great on him

He looks up and back down only to realize it was you , his eyes widen and he turns around in a quick Swoop.

"Shit sorry sorry!!!-sorry!!" You yelp shutting the door awkwardly. Almost like a slam, you put your head against the door In shame at just the image in your head, he was tall and semi fit, some scars running across his body and new bruises from the other night start to show but he was beautiful. You being to blush as you turn to the other wall and awkwardly slam your head against it over and over in a gentle way. You hear the door click open and you turn around just as fast.

"I'm sorry!! I knocked!!" You say awkwardly

"No its fine I thought you were just a security guard checking up on me" he can't look st you at all. He moves to the side to gesture you to go back into the room

"How did you sleep Y/N" Peter shuts the foot behind you and begins to make his bed. You just pull up a chair from the provided desk and sit

"Uh it was ..sleep I guess" you say sheepishly, If you were honest you didnt sleep well, the thought of peter being hurt only kept you up more. The panic you felt didn't go away. You had a mid life crisis in the span of three hours, you slept only from exhaustion.

"How was yours though. How are you feeling?" You look back up to peter, he's now sitting on his freshly made bed

"As best as I could I mean the bruises made it hard. We gotta get away from here..." Peter says as he lays back into his bed. You both sit in silence for a moment, enjoying each others presence

"What if we leave" peter shoots up and goes to you, putting a hand over your mouth and looking around

"Shhhh...." He whispers as he makes note of the guards usually walking around.

You slowly move his hsnd, peter goes back to sitting down on the edge of his bed

"We can't..I can't" peter just looks down

"I've tried...so many times" he keeps going looking defeated. You get up and wall towards him, standing between him. He looks up at you, your face entirely different from before, your eyes widened and a look of horror. You haven't been there long but you knew once you found out about the children's abilities you couldn't stay but you couldn't leave.

"We've got to get away... We have to" you looked scared realizing If he can't you can't. If he lost hope you might as well sit and die.

You see how his reaction to you was so you soften your face. You sigh and bend down to his height

"Why cant you..." You question his words from before. He reaches out his hand, still in pain from the night before, he takes your hand and places it against his neck, a small Pill like shape was In his neck

"For their longest employees they Chip, it weakens me and tracks me..if we leave they will find you because of me.." You press into his neck more

"If we leave and they find us They Will Kill you" peter starts again letting your hand go. You pull your hand away only to collide it with Peters face lightly. He looks at you in shock, mainly because he was tortured not even 10 hours before.

"Don't say that peter. Don't lose hope that only dooms me more!" You stand up and rub his cheek lightly, feeling bad about the not so harsh slap. He looks at you confused. He didnt know if he wanted To let you in on the plan he was making

"Eleven.." He says slowly.

"I wanted to get her out. With recent events Pap-...Brenner wants her dead, she's getting to powerful because of us, your advice and mine are making her stronger and hes afraid. Number two got angry and attacked Eleven once you took care of me. Brenner has a plan, he's going to make confrontation and That will only upset Two and his siblings more. " you sit next to him and sigh not understanding what anything means anymore

"If we get Eleven out what does that mean for you.." You ask and look up at peter. All he did was look at the children's drawing he's had on his walls.

"I don't know..." He says. A smile forms on his face as he looks back at you,

"But i know I want you two to be free" you can't help but smile back. You lean back into his bed and just think. He looks at you, mostly I'm shock on how he has a Woman in his room so casually.

You both go back to sitting in silence, sometimes putting out random ideas on how to get Peter out just as easy.

"I was going to give her my Key card. Claiming I lost it later on, letting her have access to the basements. What if you tell her the key code so its less heavy. Showing she can trust you too. And after we will all meet down there and you two can go, I'll figure it out trust me Brenner Won't kill me" he turns to look at you again. A giant smile washes over your face, with a laugh you shout 'perfectly' in a sigh of relief Peter lays next to you. You both sitting there waiting to carry out the master plans

After the confrontation brenner had it was lunch time, Two was in the nurses care, peter already gave eleven the card. You sat next to her during lunch,

"Hello again" you say softly, she tenses up and gives you a scared look.

"I'm with blondie remember...I want you to pretend we are having fun, I'm going to point at some kids drawings I want you to laugh while I tell you this...." You smile and start fake laughing. Eleven nods and begins to smile too, having a horrible Fake laugh but believable for the cameras

"Remember this" you keep your act up as you whisper." 6-2-3-4-4-7" you take your time and give her one last look, she only nods as you step up and walk around yo other kids. Trying to replicate the same amusement with some of them. Showing no special treatment to Eleven. But it was harder to make them laugh. And Brenner knew that.

You were walking down the halls, hearing a few pairs of footsteps behind you, your walking slowed as you turned around quickly, you see Brenner and two security guards staring at you

"Mind if we chat" brenner asks. You couldn't refuse, literally no wasn't an answer so you follow the men into a dark room, forcefully the guards strap you into a chair, two nurses come in two watch and Brenner asks you questions

"What did you say to Eleven"

"I told her old jokes I remembered from my old life" Brenner puts a collar around your Throat the same one that was used on Two, he amps up the shock with a remote

"What did you say to her" he asks again

"A joke" you say with a sly smile

*Shock*

You burst out in a scream, your body seizing at the shock as the device turned off

"What did you say"

" a stupid joke"

this on hurt more it was growing. Each grueling hour was worse. The questions went over Peter, your friendship with him and how you handled Eleven, the pain went through your whole body but it didnt stop them, they beat you but you still didn't talk

Your screams filled the air. Your blood was stained on your white uniform. They made sure to show it more than they did with Peter. You were a Message to him, reminder to Not Defy.

After the hours you were let go, being dragged out just as Peter was. There was no groaning because at that point you couldn't feel. You were sure you would die. Peter walks out of the rainbow room just finishing up some cleanup before his shift ended. He looks over down the hall and sees a body being dragged, the image of him being tortured made his skin crawl he follows slowly as he sees Brenner walk out, he stops and sees Brenner walk off not wanting to stay for anything of it . usually brenner stayed until the Person was in their room but this time he didn't. Peter followed quietly, he notes its a women but who, he knew it wasn't you because you usually handled the younger ones during the night. he felt no remorse for whoever disobeyed papa.

As he inched closer he saw a glimpse of the Bloody face. He stopped as anger filled his body, your head would look up and back down, he knew it was you. His frozen body finally thawed, he runs to you punching one of the guards in the face, he drops Y/N and the other guard goes to fight back, he also drops y/n and with a thud she lands in the tile floor.

"WHAT DID YOU DO" Peter screams, landing as many punches as he could , one of the guards gets a hold of him as the other tries to attack

"Wait boys..." Brenner comes back from the shadows.

"Let him go" brenner raises his hand the guards drop the man and peter is struggling to not strangle the man in front of him

"Ya know its crazy. How she didnt break, kept saying she had some jokes and Only eleven understood or had a reaction Because of 'context'. See what happened to her was because of You..." Brenner looks down at your limp body barley breathing .

"Why would you do this, if this was on me why not hurt Me more" peter finally calms his body enough to trust Her won't hurt Brenner

"I told her not to disobey when she watched over you. Stop being sneaky and just live here, stop trying to run when you'll Never make it out" he gives an evil smile

"Boys you can put her in her room...Kid..just go to bed and stop caring for people you probably only want to use let's be honest" brenner just waves his hands and walks off. The guards dragging the body again Henry follows behind

"Can you at least put her on her bed" peter pleads with both guards, after a minute they show up to Y/Ns room Peter not noticing how close it was like She did. The door opens and one guard picks her up and places her on the bed

"Dont be a perv" One if them says as they both walk off. Peter storms in and looks at you, your uniform stained with dried blood and sweat. He runs his fingers through your hair and gets up, he pulls a chair in front of you and walk out, getting some clean towels from the men's bathroom and a small bucket of water and soap. He goes back into the room quietly, you're completely knocked out your body switching whenever Peter touched her. He slowly wets the towels and drags it across get face and exposed arms. He cleans the blood off the best he could without waking her. All he can think about was the guilt he had in the moment. How it was His fault she got hurt, with a loud gasp Y/n wakes up grasping at anything she can hold, which was peters hand and some bed sheets. Her pain Grows as she let's out groans squeezing both peters hand and the sheets

"Fuuuckkk....that really hurts" she says slowly sitting up and resting her head on her hand

"Y/n ...I'm so sorry this was my fault! I knew it was dangerous, I knew he was watching yet I still had you do that!" Peter holds your hand back and leans in he leaves the wet bloody rag on his white pants not caring If he's dirty

Y/N simply looks at him was an aching smile

A few seconds after tears form at the edges of your eyes. You start to cry, your smile fading slowly as you lean into peter, your body aching but you didnt care. You just wanted to let it out "this is so ass...we need to leave, god this hurts so much, I can't breathe every time I inhale it burns"you cry out. Peter lightly wrappes his arms around you, trying to comfort you like he did all those years ago

"I'll get you out..I promise I'll do anything to let you out" y/n slowly starts to calm down. She leans back up and looks at her messy clothes.

"Can you..help me with something" you say awkwardly

Peter looks at you and nods confused why you would be so shy

"Help me change... Please I feel disgusting" y/n looks at her small dresser of clothes they provide. When it comes to sleep wear the generic Pj pants and button up cozy top in White was all they had.

"Yeah i think I can" peter looks down at his hands. Slowly getting up and retrieving the pajamas

"What do you need" peter awkwardly says. Not being used to a Woman asking him such a question

"Help with these ass shoes please. I can't bend like that.. That's really it."you say trying to lean off the bed but failing. Peter notices your pain

"You cant do this all you're in pain, just don't change" peter hold his hands up trying to stop you, more tears pool out of your eyes. And peter looks back at you sad

"Please help, these are just a reminder..just close your eyes you idiot" y/n does her best to unbutton any pants or shirt. Eventually seeing you struggle so much makes Peter sad. He helps you out with the shirt and belt and slowly guides you to the edge of the bed, he closes his eyes tightly and you laugh a little. Hearing you laugh after all this was music to him, he smiles and helps you get dressed the best he can blinded. Once you give the okay he helps you lay back down and opens his eyes. He sits back on the chair.

"Don't apologize for this Peter. It wasnt on you" you softly say finally getting to relax. Peter looks at you ashamed. His usually cool attitude dropped into an innocent one he fully felt like he was to blame. You grab his hand and pull on it a little

"Do not feel like you are to blame only they are... "You look into his eyes once again. All he can do was look disappointed in himself.

You two sit silently, usually silence was never good with you, it was lonely and dark. But with Peter it was okay, it felt better and you weren't alone.

Peter slowly gets up to leave He puts the towel and bucket in a corner and starts to open the door

"Please don't leave yet Peter" you quietly ask. Peter turns around with a red face, but it was too dark for you to notice. Peter nods silently and takes off his shoes. Going into a basket to take out more blankets they provide for the winter months

"No...not on the floor..." You skooch to the edge of the uncomfortable bed and pull the covers back. You look up at the now awkward man as he slowly sits at the edge of the bed. Not really knowing what to do

"Its alright... If you don't feel comfortable you can make a bed on the floo-"

"No... No its okay" peter cuts you off and slowly lays next to you .He turns to look at you, his face even more red at the closeness a small smile is seen in the dark from you as you grab one if his hands and hold it up to your face, hugging it slightly

"Thank you peter" is all she says as she drifts off to sleep. You felt safe and comfortable with him. Peter stays up maybe an hour after just yo process what was happening but eventually he fell asleep, just as safe and comfortable.

You wake up alone in your bed, getting dressed as your body still ached. You walked down to the Cafeteria to see smiling faces. Some of the children asked if you were okay, obviously seeing the pain in your face every time you took a heavier step or moved in a harsh way

You sit next to 010 Having quiet conversations, thats when your eyes lay on the face you learned to care for. Peter looks up just as you saw him and small smiles were exchanged. He was doing his own work, observing the children and asking them questions.

"Do...do you like him?" Ten says quietly, eating his breakfast. You look over horrified at what the child said.

"Am i wrong" he keeps going, giving you a small smile picking up more food

"M..maybe" you Cross your arms and a small laugh escapes. You and the young boy start to laugh at the experience.

You look over at peter again, watching him smile with the young children. Even thought he didn't like most of them he sure looked like he had fun, sometimes he really seemed like he cared for them even if he disagreed.

It was time for the plan. You would each get to the basement at different times and different ways. You walk through the halls as it was finally your time you go, you were the last to go down but a guard suddenly stopped you.

"Where are you going" he holds his hand up to stop you. You look around and think of something to say

"I need to piss..." You say bluntly walking past the man and into whatever nearest bathroom there was. You knew he would only be out there once you left you had to think you had to get out and meet them.

Mean while eleven and Peter were already down there, Peter explained to her why they needed to leave, why they still had to wait for Y/N but why he couldn't go with them.

"You can trust her. She's going to protect you. Trust me Eleven"

He shows her why he can't leave, the same pill like shape in his neck. Eleven watches and thinks. What if she set him free. A smile creeps onto Peters lips.

They set up and eleven slowly pulls out the tracker. Freeing Peter of being tracked down and hunted. Just before they can celebrate more guards and staff come in, ready to attack . they run up some stairs into the facility again. getting trapped between two guards

Eleven ready to comply to their demands

"You don't have time be afraid of then anymore" before any if the guards can do anything peter lifts his arm and throws two against a wall, breaking the tile. He turns around and knocks the other two, leaving a man shaking and afraid alone. Not long after he soon meets the same Fate.

Peter and eleven go into a closet near by, Peter telling her to stay there as he finds a place to leave. All the while he's still worried for you.

You on the other hand are waiting in the bathroom, you look under the door and still see feet. You turn to sit on the counter waiting till you can leave, but a minute later you hear a loud scream and an evem louder sound of breaking bones and blood. Your body freezes , you slowly get up and open the door, the guard you saw before body is laying dead on the floor, bones broken, you fall back afraid and crawl backwards the door swinging shut. You crawl in a stall and sit there. The more minutes that pass the more screaming you hear, after maybe 20 minutes you get out running to the basement seeing no one. The bodies littered the lab all bloodied and bruised. You find your way to the rainbow room seeing Brenner limp in, as you run to him pushing him aside slightly you a bloodied Eleven stand before broken glass and dead bodies. Brenner pushes past you again. Your shocked body once again completely frozen

"What did you do..." Is all he said. With his words you begin to cry, you leave walking around the lab once again, seeing no sight if peter..

'Did she do the same to him' you walk around crying and then find the way out. As you run to your old home you sit on the steps. Waiting for your mother to return after the months of not hearing from you, you lean back and begin to cry. Slight rain falls as you breakdown not understanding what went wrong. You had another Guilty stab wound, if you were there you could have helped...could have saved them.

Wade isn’t the only one searching, millions of OASIS users have had their hands in the hunt, but the most dangerous is by far the Sixers of IOI, the quickly-monopolizing second tech company that will corrupt and destroy the sanctuary that Halliday built in the OASIS to turn it into another capitalist endeavor. Wade is trying to win it before IOI can, but if he is so poor he can’t even leave his school’s planet, how is supposed to solve anything?

Overall Review:

Pre-read:

The movie is by far one of my most favorite films of all time. I can pick it up at any point and immediately start quoting word for word. It’s my comfort film.

That being said, this read was highly anticipated, and I have not circled back yet to read Ready Player Two (though it’s on my list for next month because I am very excited that the sequel film was green lit).

Plot:

And, I think because I’ve lived the movie for years, I wasn’t made about how different the book was, BECAUSE my source material was the film, knowing the film was adapting the novel. I wasn’t attached one way or another on seeing parts of the book in the film. And because I have a mind for film, and how adaptions work, I could recognize why such significant parts of the story had to be changed, like the fact that there are 6 challenges (one per key and one per gate), or Daito and Sho being related, or iROK’s entire character (he drove me crazy tbh). To bring that to film would be such a struggle, because it’s so well layered and incorporated in the novel, with the pace and the plot structure, keeping that would not be plausible for a film timeframe and a bit too busy for the attention span of a film viewer.

Worldbuilding:

What I also really loved about the book was the detail! It was all so intricate and so reference heavy. It goes so much deeper in the book than it ever went in the film, and I love that. Because I’m the kind of person who can identify a detail as it is presented that’s meant to be hidden only to be very important later on, this book had me on the edge of my seat, I had no clue what would matter and what wouldn’t, which is exactly the reason why Halliday’s Hunt was so hard in the first place, so I really felt right in the middle of it all.

Romantic Sub-Plot:

Wade and Samantha’s relationship was a lot less interesting and a lot less necessary in the book, I felt. I didn’t really feel their chemistry much. I think their friendship only culminating in a relationship post-egg (or even moments before the final battle) would have been a lot better, especially if they had previously acknowledged that they had feelings for each other, but it didn’t feel right to explore that side of their relationship yet.

Wade:

Also!!!! Dude, Wade is so much fucking smarter than the film makes him!! He freaking infiltrates IOI (which is so much more awful in the book) and takes them all down from the inside and then freaking escapes!! Sam was legit just allowed anywhere she wanted and then walked out in the movie. He is a literal genius.

Cast:

Losing Daito IRL really made the stakes more intense than in the film, even with the stacks blowing up and the car chase. I was really sad for a while with that one, especially for Sho.

Or so they thought. Angel and demon alike quickly learn that Heaven can be far crueler than Hell. https://archiveofourown.org/works/19710115 Holy shit this fic took turns destroying me and healing me with all the batshit graphic and horrifying Crowley whump and comfort. I deeply appreciated how the author mixed flashbacks of torture and sexual abuse with 'current day' scenes that were a lot of comforting!Aziraphale. I adored the happy ending. Also the author posted instances of fanart inspired by the fic and it's been awesome (and gut-wrenching evocative, just like the fic) to see.

Constitution of an Ox by Bazzpop. Teen+, Aziracrow, 5k words. Summary: What if Crowley hadn’t been summoned back down to hell at the end of The Resurrectionists minisode? Aziraphale would have taken care of an off his head on laudanum demon, that’s what. https://archiveofourown.org/works/49752175 Oh my gosh I loved all the cuddling in this fic. Especially the encore in the morning, I was so happy they didn't immediately split apart out of automatic "our sides wouldn't like it" fear, which is a common thing in GO fic I've noticed (great for angst but sometimes you just want them to sink into each other's arms and stay there)

Echoes of Luke 10:34 by ChummyGeekery. Teen+, Aziracrow, 8k words. Summary: These days, the humans are calling it "Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome." Crowley just thinks of it as the way his body's been ever since the Fall. He's never really had to talk about it- until now. https://archiveofourown.org/works/21045344 Adored this fic. I loved the way Crowley's problems emerged over time in this story and how Aziraphale slowly learned what was going on and extended so much love comfort and compassion towards him.

Migraines Are A Bitch by obsidian_boi. Teen+, 5k words, Aziracrow. Summary: It's the night of the End of the World and Crowley feels a migraine starting. It's been a terribly long day and he no longer has the energy to fight it off. Aziraphale is there though, and Crowley leans heavily on the angel as they head back to his place. The pain only gets worse, but will Crowley actually allow himself to take Aziraphale's help? https://archiveofourown.org/works/20209423 I *loved* this! Oh my gosh the *second* time poor Crowley's head smacked the bus window I was howling inside hoping Aziraphale would do exactly what the author described because it's so compassionate and protective and then the rest of Aziraphale taking care of him 😭 I really loved this.

Palliative Practices by VerdantVulpus. Mature, 19k words, Aziracrow. Summary: Based on the following prompt. What if every time Crowley does a good deed, he suffers pain after because it goes against his demonic nature (and the greater the good, the more intense the pain)? Then Aziraphale finds out that Crowley has been living with that pain ever since the Arrangement. or 5 times Crowley masked his pain and 1 time he accepted help. https://archiveofourown.org/works/26601871 Oh my gosh the angst in this fic was absolutely the best. How many seasons of TD are there? I remember watching 1, 2, and 3, and then when they started 4 I was like "I've grown out of this" and never watched it again.

Season 1 is TDI: Total Drama Island. It's 26 eps, plus a special that I don't think you could watch on Netflix for whatever reason. It's the one everyone knows, and people often mistake this as the franchise title. The franchise is TD: Total Drama. Island is the first season.

Season 2 is TDA: Total Drama Action. Instead of being a campsite, it instead is on a movie lot and every ep is based off different movie genres. The cast is slightly cut, with some of the filler characters being removed. There are "aftermath" episodes where there's no competition but rather insider information about the meta. It's 26 eps, plus a special that introduces multiple new characters that debut better next season

Season 3 is TDWT: Total Drama World Tour. Instead of a campsite, they visit different places in the world, and every episode has at least one song. The cast is also smaller than TDI, but has a different set of characters, where some return for WT that didn't for A, as well as two new added characters. The "aftermath" episodes return, also with songs. There are 26 episodes with no special episode.

Season 4 is ROTI: Total Drama Revenge of the Island. An entirely new cast is introduced, but only has 13 episodes. There are cameos from the previous lot of campers, who are essentially guides to some of the challenges. Chris kind of goes off the deep end this season, as this is where he gets Worse

Season 5 is TDAS: Total Drama All Stars. The subjective "best" of the previous two casts are compiled and set to fight against each other in 13 episodes. It's... a show.

What season 6 is, is the most confusing thing in the world because it's technically a later thing. But the episodes immediately after TDAS is TDPI: Total Drama Pahkitew Island. I won't explain why, but they had to use a different island for this season, and we have another new cast for 13 episodes. This cast is a bit more exaggerated than previous seasons, so it's very YMMV.

ACTUAL season 6 is the 2023 reboot that uh. I don't think we have an acronym for. I call it TD23. New cast, 13 episodes, and it's set to have a follow up season of 13 more episodes. It takes place 15 years after the debut season in 2008, so it focuses on more modern trends and doesn't have too many references to previous seasons

SPINOFFS

Right after TDPI came TDRR: Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race. Rather than Survivor, this series is based off The Amazing Race, traveling the globe to different locations. This series is 26 episodes long, with 18 teams of 2, as well as a new host to replace Chris, named Don. Four of the characters return from their respective TD series, but 32 are brand new characters. Due to the larger cast, it can get a bit buried with characterization, but I think some got a lot of good attention and development. It's probably the most standalone series where you need little characterization of previous seasons to enjoy

Between RR and 23, came the baby spinoff TDR: Total Dramarama. Here, the cast is aged down to four years old, and have the setting of a daycare, run by Chef. Chris is barely present, only making cameos and does not interact with the children. Jude from 6Teen (another show by Fresh) is also added to the cast. While there's a cycling cast, not every TD character has a toddler counterpart. Many fan favs like Heather and Lindsay never appear, as well as very few characters beyond Island. There are- oh my fucking god. There are 152 episodes over a 3 season span, as well as a special. Good lord. However, these are 11 minute episodes, with only select episodes being 2-part episodes, so that cuts the total time for it. Still that's so many oh my god-

Water Genasi descend from Marids, aquatic genies from the Elemental Plane of Water. Water Genasi are perfectly suited to life underwater and carry the power of the waves inside themselves.

If they have a human skin tone, there is a glistening texture that catches the light, like water droplets or nearly invisible fish scales. Random rant time! This picture has always bugged me and I'm going to tell you why

This meeting between Sothe and Micaiah supposedly took place around 10 years before Radiant Dawn, yet Micaiah doesn't look like she's aged at all?

And yes, yes, I know that she's Branded, and she ages differently, BUT

She shouldn't really age THAT much slower than a regular human. I mean, look at this chart that was included in the Tellius Recollections book (lovingly translated here):

Now, this shows the number of years each laguz/branded has to live in order to age the equivalent of 1 beorc year. So for a lion laguz, they age about 1 year for every 3 years that pass.

Notice that heron branded are not included on this list, but considering that heron laguz have a lifespan in between a lion and a dragon laguz (though significantly closer to the former's), then a heron branded should have a lifespan in between a lion and a dragon branded. Which means Micaiah should age about 1 year for every 1.5 to 2 years that pass.

So how is it that, in the span of 10 years, she has barely aged at all? At the very least, she should appear to be about 10 to 11 years old in this photo.

Additionally, the story itself seems to imply that Micaiah is in her mid-twenties, considering she was alive during the Serenes massacre, which took place about 20 years before Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn. (They explicitly say 20 years in both games, which makes zero sense, since 3 years take place in between the start of PoR and RD, but whatever. Consistency who?)

But that makes no sense either. It's implied that the branded only start aging slowly around puberty. In PoR, Soren mentions that he only started noticing that he was aging differently about 3 years ago... hence why he looks 16 even though he's probably around 18-20 years old. Plus, when Ike and Soren first met in Gallia, Ike mentions that Soren looked to be "around his age". But if Soren was really aging only 1 year every 3.33 years since their first meeting as children, then he would look a lot younger at the start of PoR. And yet he only looks a little younger than Ike.

And like, I am aware that the timeline is not exact. Almedha mentions that she hasn't seen Ashnard in 20 years, yet Izuka says that Almedha lost her infant son 15 years ago. Obviously one of those numbers are wrong. Almedha couldn't have cut off all ties with Ashnard 5 years before Soren was born.

These inconsistencies just frustrate me.

But my point stands. There's no way that Micaiah could have barely aged in 10 years, unless the lifespan of a heron branded is even longer than that of a dragon branded, which makes no sense. Micaiah should have been drawn to look closer to Sothe's age.

(Also, and this is only tangentially related, IS needs to stop pushing the whole Micaiah and Sothe are brother and sister thing, since they get married at the end of Radiant Dawn by default. Like, it would be one thing if it was something you could opt into it by building their support to A level, but they already start at A level from the very beginning. Which means, in order to prevent them from getting married, you have to 1. know about their paired ending ahead of time and 2. purposely delete their support. I will accept that Micaiah thought of Sothe as her little brother when they were both street urchins, but it's quite clear from her avid jealousy over Ike that her feelings for Sothe are a whole lot less platonic in Radiant Dawn. FE heroes literally gave Micaiah and Sothe an alt where they are dressed as a bride and groom, and yet Micaiah STILL introduces Sothe as her brother. What the fuck, Fire Emblem?)

(Like, IS, I know you have an incest kink. But can you maybe not??)

I like Micaiah and Sothe's dynamic and how it so closely parallels the bond and history between Ike and Soren. But I don't appreciate lazy writing and timelines that contradict themselves.

Happy New Year and Update

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope 2023 is filled with blessings for you and your families. This year, I am also hoping to add a handful more chapters to From the Beyond, but I think we all know how making plans and finding time for hobbies can work out, right? :P

In any case, the next chapter is finally going into its official "sketch” stages, and with that, I wanted to give you all an idea of what that’s like for a fic this size.

With 74 chapters and counting and over 640,000 words, make no mistake about it, managing FtB at this point is work. Hard work and intensive planning. This is one reason why it takes so long between chapter releases (in addition to my fear of burning myself out again).

Before starting a new chapter, I reread and edit/proofread the previous one one more time to get back in the “zone”. One thing I have a huge concern about is maintaining a consistent tone throughout the fic, especially since it has spanned 5 years of work so far; a person’s style can change a lot in that time, and the last thing I want is for the first chapter and the last chapter to sound like two different people wrote it.

Reviewing notes is a must. I have nearly the entire fic already planned out as far as rough plot points go, with a detailed outline in a separate document. As a matter of fact, FtB is slated to come to an end at approximately the same "place” storywise as the canonical Inquisition main quest. Two sequels have also been tentatively planned, one that spans the timeline of The Descent and Jaws of Hakkon, and another that covers Trespasser and the epilogue. I haven’t done much detail work with either storyline, however, as the events of Dreadwolf and what lore I learn in that game may impact how those sequels go.

That brings me to another big task - keeping the timeline straight. I have another document, an Excel spreadsheet, that charts out the contents of each chapter in the story separately, including a rough summary, which major characters appear, key plot events that can’t be forgotten, an estimated day-month-year-season span, and of course, any romance plot points. I’ve even made notes for any unique characterization elements that have been revealed (IE: Tamsyn’s hatred of clowns and her inability to swim). Further charts keep track of major and minor characters and their ages, as well as whether or not they’ve been eliminated from the storyline.

After reviewing all of these notes and making even more notes to follow in the WIP chapter, then I can finally start writing. Each chapter averages 8k-10k words to cover everything required.

As you can see, this is a lot to keep straight in a person’s head, and with so much information that can’t be forgotten, it can feel more than a little overwhelming, sometimes. Fortunately, there are fewer chapters to go than have already been written... relatively speaking, the story is fairly close to the end; after all, only the Arbor Wilds and the events afterwards are left to cover in the canonical timeline.

Knowing that is one thing. Getting there, though, is quite another.

In any case, it’s not something I’m planning on giving up on. However, because of the amount of work required and the time and headspace I need to accomplish it, I can’t give any estimations for when a chapter might be released. The best I can give you is “I’m working on it”. Which I am. :D

1) Tell us about your current project(s) – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?

OH BOY WHERE TO START LMAO

I’m working on a few things right now, which is funny because I used to be a one project at a time sort of person, back when I didn’t write as often but putting pen to paper was paradoxically easier.

The “first” (technically second, you’ll see what I mean) big thing is:

A “multiverse” story. This sounds like something that I came up with after watching Everything Everywhere All At Once, but I’ve been working in this since before the movie came out 🤣 Of course, Daniels had thought of the concept for this movie long before this was even a blip in my mind, but I digress.

I think I mentioned this before, but I kind of like the idea that out of all the families, the Close/Streeps/Freemans are just… utterly mundane and non-magical (not really the case anymore eyeroll ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), but I still wrote a ficlet where Morgan basically implies she knows the gender of her child through a dream. I took that and spun it off into, “Morgan visits her alternate selves through her dreams and is comforted and finds closure in the choices she’s made in her life,” (or something like that, I don’t usually like to deal too seriously in themes and prefer writing vignettes or scenes) I mostly just wanted to write down some of the AU ideas I’ve come up with without committing to several fics at a time because as much as I love my AUs, and as much as I like writing fics, there’s only so much time and energy I can put into them without ignoring basic necessities 😅

I have a basic “prologue” done but not much else. What I want to do next is figure out which AU I want “featured.” As big as this idea sounds, I really do want this to on the shorter side (if it exceeds Heart’s wordcount and is not considered done by then I may cry lol) and I’m not including the completely outlandish universes like the bodyguard AU or the figure skating AU. I definitely want to include Morgan Foster-Freeman, and mercenary Morgan from my Monsters and Mommies AU, but other than those two I’m still in the planning stages.

The “second” big thing I’m working on is:

A Glenn and Morgan love/origin story that I’ve been working on on-and-off since fucking 2020 (!!) I have a few scenes fully written out and even an old outline of what I wanted to happen (it’s so old I was still calling Morgan “Michel” or “Mysterious Significant Other”).

I have a lot of problems with this one lmao.

One is it takes place over a pretty long period of time—I specified they’ve been dating around 5, almost six years in “Everyday Words Seem to Turn into Love Songs”, and they didn’t immediately like each other when they first met (I’ve always been pretty firm with this bit of headcanon), so the timeline for this one, tentatively titled “You’ve Got a Pulse and You Are Breathing” would have to span at least 7 years, and maybe even longer.

Another problem I had was formatting. I was having trouble deciding if I wanted this to be one long document/short story (my preferred format) or if it should be split up into chapters. As I went on, I was even starting to doubt whether I even wanted to do such a comprehensive “origin” story that went from point A to point Married to point Canon, and considered doing it in semi-related short ficlets like “In A Sentimental Mood,” or as a 5+1 format, specifically something like “5 times Glenn had a shitty date, and 1 time Glenn still had a shitty date but it led to something infinitely better” (a lot of “Pulse” involves Glenn’s dating troubles, not only from being a pan/bi Asian man in the 90s and 00s having to deal with biphobia and racism, but also being aspec and not being able to put into words why certain parts of dating don’t appeal to him without sounding like he’s stuck-up or a “freak” or like there’s something wrong with him.)

But I think the biggest problem I am having right now is simply the fact that I think I psyched myself out 🤣 I wrote “Everyday Words” in… a day? Maybe two days? It was simple and cute and so easy to do, one of the few times I just wrote first and edited later, that I figured I could write up a “But how did they meet,” story in maybe a week, and now it’s two years later, the campaign is over and it’s on to the next one for a majority of people, so many scenes written that may not even make it into the final product and the only thing I’m sure on is the title, and even that might be changed for the final product 🤣

I still have so much love for this fic, it feels like my baby basically lmao, that I feel nothing less than perfection will do it justice. It would be very funny but also poetic if the first meeting of Glenn and Morgan ends up being my last fic written for the fandom, but I don’t see that happening—I still have plenty of ideas left to write!

Smaller things I am also working on (that I have actually started and are not just ideas I want to write eventually) are: A Carol and Morgan bonding thing that will hopefully segue into some sort of Carol/Mercedes thing, and a social media fic of fans speculating on Glenn’s love life (Single? Straight? Dating? Bi?? Secretly married??? Something else?????), Morgan’s general cryptidness (Dancer? Actor? Pianist? All of the above? None of the above? No really, how does one woman hold so many jobs at one single time?), and generally being weird and parasocial. So you know, just your average day on social media.

3) What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)

There is a scene that I’ve never written but has always stuck out in my head in my abandoned Glenn in mourning fic, where after the funeral, Glenn is accosted not only by Bill, (obviously thinking that now that the ol’ ball and chain is in the ground Glenn is suddenly OK with having his father around again), but also by Morgan’s side of the family, either by her sibling (who I think was her sister and not her brother at the time I was thinking of writing this) or her actual parents, who are basically threatening to take Nick away from him.

Bill is handled fairly quickly and easily, but a legal matter is something else entirely, and in a panic, Glenn goes to see his mother and basically starts verbally whaling on her once the shock of what happened wears off and lets her have it, demanding/screaming that she help him because, according to Glenn, she owes him for never being an adequate mother and treating him like an inconvenience until it was too late, but eventually his rage subsides and his grief takes over and he begs her, much more plaintively, to help make the problem go away, swearing that he’ll forgive her for all her past transgressions and never bring them up again if she helps him with the custody problem. She agrees, and he never hears from Morgan’s side of the family again. (which sounds ominous written like that, but everything was dealt with legally I swear lmao)

18) Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations?) Tell us about them.

I recently reread “Everyday Words” and though I consider is part of Musicverse canon, a part of me feels like it’s a completely different ‘verse, simply from the amount of (implied) boning that happens 😂 I came up with the idea of Ace Glenn very early in the series run (my series and canon series) but it wasn’t in my head when I wrote this evidently (it was probably while I was writing “Pulse” did the idea firmly plant itself in my head, which was basically immediately after I finished this). Chalk it up to being away from each other for extended periods of time, Glenn being (generally) sex-favorable and sex being an easy way of establishing intimacy.

A lot of the story beats in “Heart” were originally going to be part of other things (Glenn mentioning that his mother taught him guitar was originally going to be part of “Pulse”) or were going to be smaller ficlets. The bit where Morgan gets sick in Heart was originally going to be its own short ficlet, and so was the scene of Glenn talking about his failed “date”/realizing something was “up” with him irt sexual attraction (it was originally a morning after scene), so I’d consider all those plotlines I’ve abandoned, or more accurately, merged into one.

My friend also made a throwaway joke about an AU where the meet-cute is both of them dumping bodies into the Gowanus and their eyes meet, which isn’t an AU of my adult store AU per se but it is a joke I can see Morgan making as she’s trying to puzzle out how much she wants to say about her occupation .(“So how are you going to introduce me to your friend’s kids?” “I don’t know, I’ll just tell ‘em we met when we were dumping bodies into the Canal. They’ll get a kick out of that.”)

20) Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)

I have a few, but the one that sticks out for me is probably the headbutt. The scene of Glenn headbutting Bill in “You Send it All Back to Me” is a call-back (call-forward?) to a scene in “Pulse,” where Glenn attempts to punch somebody and gets punched back for his troubles. Morgan fixes him up while criticizing his technique and advises him to go for a headbutt next time instead for a variety of sensible reasons. Glenn is skeptical and is in the process of “Well, Actually”-ing her when she surprises him with a headbutt to demonstrate—not hard, just a sudden forehead touch that stops him in his tracks and forces him to reconsider his talking points and also realize that Morgan’s eyes are not black like he originally thought but brown, and that this close he can see how they sparkle when she’s amused and how deep and dark and mesmerizing and beautiful they actually are and—oh no.

My World Monday, Thera time and Marka

Just gonna jump right into it. Reason I keep saying this is because I don't know how else to introduce the idea and feel weird for just blurting it out without warning, but it's also scheduled so I'm technically not doing that… Anyway, Theran time.

Sorry if this is hard to follow.

The Theran day is the equivalent of 25 Earth hours and the Theran hour is equivalent to 1.25 Earth hours. So an hour and fifteen minutes is how long a Theran hour is. And the Theran day consists of 20 Theran hours. You with me? If not, feel free to blast me with comments or asks. 😅

Unlike Earth that has time zones for every hour, Thera has time zones for kingdoms. So the time zone are as follows, Hummes time, Estes time, Solara time, and Kares time, each zone consisting of 5 hours. Marka is referred to as the time keeper and here's why.

The city is built like a type of sundial. There are pillars that mark each hour and are labeled as H1, H2, etc for Hummes, E1, E2, etc for Estes, and so on. There are unique markings on each pillar so when the suns are behind the pillar, it'll shine through the designs and people can see what hour it is. And in the center is the grand castle meant to house the royal family of Marka, long since abandoned when the last Marka royal disappeared.

Since Marka has a perpetual sunset, the city is always awake. People will get a job and instead of requesting to work something like morning, midday and night, they say the time zone of their preferred hours. These places are literally open all day long. Well, there are some that are only open on certain days, but in that case, they start at H1 (consider Japan on Earth) and close at K5(consider Hawaii on Earth). Oh, and this goes counter clockwise because the planet spins counter clockwise. Isn't that unique. 😆 I forgot to mention that when building the planet. Oh well!

Sidenote: While Thera has little to no tilt, the planet didn't go completely unscathed when colliding with the other rocky planets to form into one, which is part of the reason is spins backwards.

Other sidenote: I thought it was clockwise until I got to a certain scene in Second Fragment and realized that if it was clockwise, the sun wouldn't be visible because it'd be behind the mountain. And that wasn't how it was supposed to be in the story. So for the suns to rise over the kingdom of Solara, it had to set behind the mountain which completely reversed the direction Thera spins. Also affected Echoes of Stag (which I'd written before Second Fragment) because I had the suns traveling clockwise. Yeah, had to go back and fix that whole thing. 😑

More time related stuff, so here we go. Theran weeks have 6 days named Sunday, Moonday, Skyday, Theraday, Freeday, Funday. Funday is essentially their weekend. Then, there are 200 days in a year, and 999 years in an era. They say it's 1,000, but technically it's 999. They still call 100 years centuries, but since their years are shorter, people often make it to their 130s to 150s and beyond where living to be a century old is more rare. Their dates are written EEE.YYY.DDD or Era.Year.Day. For example, Stag was born 086.903.196 and Deshi arrives at Stag's time on 086.936.042. I have a whole calendar that I keep track of… Remember, I'm a nerd for this stuff, okay? No judgment.

That also means that Stag is 33 when Deshi arrives, but it translates to 18 in Earth years. I have a formula… Feel free to message me if you'd like to know your Theran age. (I'd recommend messages so that other people don't know your age and if you'd like me not to know either, you can give me a range. Sorry, but I'm not handing out the formula. Mine. 😉 You could probably come up with your own approximate formula just with the information here though, but there are hidden things not listed. XP)

Here's something interesting. To my knowledge so far (and I'm not entirely sure these are the most updated notes on this) the story of Krystar takes place over the span of 30 eras, or 29,970 years, or 17,094 Earth years. The timey wimey stuff is quite vast.

let's talk about my system history! this is gonna be a deep dive chronicling everything i know, so strap in:

the story starts ten years ago, back in high school. (possibly earlier?) one day i was in my dorm room and all of a sudden i just... Woke Up. like i had been sleepwalking for weeks, doing all of my schoolwork on autopilot – but suddenly i was awake and aware of my surroundings.

i tried *desperately* to cling to this sense of awareness, but it didn't last long, maybe 5-10 minutes. then i slipped back "asleep" for weeks, sometimes months at a time, only to "awake" at random intervals. all the while, my life seemed like it was living itself without me.

i was confused and distressed. whenever i was awake i would try to tell the nearest person what was going on – but they didn't understand what i was talking about, and i didn't have the words to describe what was happening. well, i have the words now: it's dissociation.

if you don't know what dissociation is... it's like when you're putting away the dishes, and you get into a rhythm, and suddenly the dishes are done and you barely remember doing them. that's great when it's the dishes – but not so great when it's ten whole years of your life.

and it never got better! i left high school and it continued all through college, all through my parents' divorce, all the way through working full time to care for my mom. my dissociation hasn't ceased. i'm still stuck on autopilot... that's me, Autumn. (hence the name.)

my role started out simple: to be a heuristic. my job was to pick the least difficult option so that we could get to safety and collapse. because these ten years were so stressful, so high-velocity, and so exhausting, that building a shell for this role was a necessary evil.

i learned how to handle class/work related stress by doing the bare minimum to pass under the radar. i learned to handle people related stress by fawning, giving them everything they wanted until they went away. then i would collapse on the bed to recover… and that was my life!

the "random" times that i would wake up from dissocation were never random at all; they were ONLY during times that i was recovering, collapsed on the bed, away from all that stress. a moment of respite just long enough to peek out and say, is it safe now? is the stress over?

so if i'm the Autopilot that helps us get to safety... then when i wake up, i am in Manual control of myself. this makes two of us: Autopilot Sky (Autumn), and Manual Sky (who still doesn't have a name). and for a while, we thought it was just the two of us.

eventually the span of time between "waking up" got longer and longer, as i needed to take on more adult responsibilities – and fawn for my mom. i became more of my own person apart from Manual, finding my own joy and identity... taking up more time and space in our system.

and then one day Manual woke up next to my partner. it was the original Saturgay, January 2, 2021... the day we refer to as our anniversary. i was finally away from my mom and work, in a place comfortable enough to slip out of dissociation for the first time in years.

Manual was never awake for more than five minutes at a time since *high school.* so imagine with me, if you will, a little sheltered christian child who one day wakes up with a trans woman for a partner. the sheer shock of suddenly being in these circumstances...

...both for me, and for my partner, who listened to our story with such love and tenderness as i've never seen in my life. we really earned each others' trust that day. even Manual, who decided that day to trust my instincts, that i'm making good choices for us.

the next few months were some of the hardest i've ever lived, so hard that it maxed out me and Manual's combined efforts. when we would collapse on the bed with our partner... sometimes neither me *nor* manual were there.

it was like we would dissociate even harder into an exhausted state of anxious spiralling, unlike anything we've ever experienced. we called it Empty, because if Autopilot and Manual aren't driving, then who's in the pilot's seat?

those few awful months finally came to a close; my mom moved out, and my partner moved in. in the wake of mom's departure, i felt it was my responsibility to take care of the house... and work full time, and do all the driving, and *everything else.* i was stuck in "go mode"!

so i took on all of the work that my partner and i should have shared, even discouraged her from helping. until i once again worked myself to exhaustion, to an Empty state. and this time, Empty knew that something was *very wrong.* so it screamed, and gave itself a name: Ghost.

"things are supposed to be safe now!! why am i still working myself to the bone?? this is NOT OKAY!!!!!" and ghost was right. but my mistake, as well as its assertion, opened pandora's box: we're now plural, possibly DID – and we can't go back.

ghost didn't just suddenly exist that day, though. it was always there, every time i would fawn and it hurt us, every time doing the bare minimum cost us something important. ghost was a box of that i put all my pain in, and it came spilling out when we were at our lowest.

(celeste fans may think of ghost as the badeline to my madeline)

so now there's a bunch of us! and i can't just hog center stage anymore; we all have to have our input on this life. manual has to help me make decisions beyond just "lesser of two evils" heuristics, and ghost has to tell me when i'm overdoing it and we're in pain.

and more than just helping me... manual needs to be caught up to speed on who we are now, and ghost needs to find its own identity beyond just our pain. we all deserve time to come into our own. i've had ten years running this ship and taking up all our system resources!

...and in the process of finding ourselves, we've found a *fourth:* Rose, who seems to be our traumatized inner child of sorts? she's hit the hardest by our ADHD and anxiety, but she's a fierce friend with her own identity and desires separate from ours.

hopefully we can find room for all of us in this weird little family. but this is why we're making twitters and system bios; i want us to have our own spaces to exist, to be free, to be ourselves. for trusted friends to see us, to get to know us.

so far we've learned to love ourselves and support each other, but now i want to take the next step and give them the support i get back from friends, from dreams, from agency, from *living.* identity is a wonderful gift, and i want all of us to experience it.

we may only have one body, but through the magic of the internet, we can have multiple accounts! 💖

How to Encourage Independent Play | Sleep Training Tips

One of my absolute FAVORITE activities that I incorporated into my kid’s day when they were young was what I called playpen time. I was taught this by a friend that at the time had 8 children of her own. Yes, I said EIGHT. And not just 8 kids, but 8 WELL BEHAVED, GENUINELY HAPPY, OBEDIENT children! It was amazing to be around her and watch how she interacted with her kids and how they responded to her. From the oldest to the youngest they were all enjoyable kids to be around. Which, if you’ve had a child for any length of time you know this doesn’t happen by accident! So I knew that basically whatever she was doing could be replicated, (8 kids gives you a ton of credibility!) For me, this meant that anytime she talked, I made sure to listen. After all, who doesn’t want enjoyable, happy, obedient children? Like the kind that are enjoyable to OTHERS and not just you. But more on that later…

What playpen time really was, was a way to encourage independent play, increase attention span and provide a safe place to play while I was able to get some things done. I used that time to shower, cook dinner, make phone calls, tidy the house, nurse the baby etc. It ended up being something that served me well for MANY years. Because play pen time turned into room time as my kids got older. I wasn’t willing to give it up just because they no longer fit into a playpen!

Playpen time is a time that you set aside each day, (or twice a day) where you are placing your baby or toddler into a small contained area to play independently. You can use a playpen, play yard, pack n play, gated room that is small and safe or a crib. Here are a couple of my favorite play yards https://amzn.to/3lSdeiw, and this one https://amzn.to/3LN4tRv

You put a few toys (around 2–4) into the playpen or small play space. Too many toys overwhelms kids and they are more content and will play longer with less. Then you turn on some fun music and set the timer (here’s a favorite https://amzn.to/3lKfmsX and walk away. (Using a timer is super helpful, especially if you are starting with an older baby or toddler). You can walk in and out of your child’s sight. Don’t feel like you need to be OUT of the room the entire time. Or IN the room the entire time. Your child will learn to accept you coming and going.

If you are starting with an older child (one who is already mobile) start with 5–7 min about 3–4x per day and then increase by a few min every few days. The goal is to work up to 45 min- 1 hr. of playpen time 1–2x a day. This may take some time based on the age and disposition of your child. Remember you’re starting with a small amount of time.

So, any crying that happens will only last for a few min. And remember to wait to get your child out until AFTER the timer goes off. Your child will learn to understand that it’s the timer that signals when playpen time is over. You will see after 2–3 days your child will learn that this is a safe, fun place for him to play and will learn to love this time to sit and play uninterrupted. The protesting will stop and the playing, learning, and growing will begin!

When you initially start, if your child does protest for the entire 5–7 min. This won’t happen if you start BEFORE your child is mobile. Make sure you use a timer and that your energy is positive and upbeat when you go to take him out. You should have a smile on your face and say something like “play pen time is over, you did such a great job!” Then turn off the music (the timer will have already gone off) and scoop him out and continue on with your day. Don’t give any energy, attention or emotion to the fact that he was protesting for a few minutes. That will go away within a few days.

You can also have a bucket within the play pen and teach your child to clean up his toys when he is done. This will be super easy as there will only be a few toys to put in the bucket. If your child is too young to help clean up, do it for him but talk about what you’re doing as you’re doing it. Then as he gets older, cleaning up his toys will already have been introduced to him as a normal part of the playtime routine.

The best time to start is when your child is young and is not yet mobile. It may seem odd to place your baby in a playpen or play yard when they are very young, but by doing this you will be teaching him that this is a normal part of his day. Then once he becomes mobile this will be extremely helpful, as playing in the play pen and being contained, will already be a NORMAL part of his day. Then there will be no need to protest. This can also be helpful when you have a newborn and a toddler in the house. Because sometimes keeping the newborn safe from the toddler is a necessity.

First, it teaches your child to learn to play by himself. It also teaches them to focus on one thing at a time, for an extended period of time. This is SO GOOD for our kiddos brains as they learn and explore with no interruptions. This is why we only give a few toys rather than lots of toys. It increases their attention spans little by little and teaches them that they CAN entertain themselves.

It also teaches kiddos to be CONTENT being contained. This is a VERY valuable skill to learn. If you are a mom of an older baby or toddler you know what I mean! Learning to be contained is a necessary part of life. If your child learns this at a young age there are many areas of life that this will transfer to. Sitting in a grocery cart, car seat, being held and not allowed to get down, sitting on an airplane, etc. It also provides a safe place to play away from other siblings. Where he doesn’t have to worry about toys being taken and you don’t have to worry about siblings interacting negatively while you are trying to get something done.

The benefits for mom are multifaceted as well. Mom can now plan 2 times into her day that her child is occupied and safe. And a time when her child is not going to need her attention. She can use this time to shower, make dinner, make phone calls, rest, or get things done around the house. All without having to have all eyes on her mobile baby or toddler. It’s AMAZING what a mama can accomplish in a short time when she’s uninterrupted! The timer will help you as well! I know I can get a ton done when I’m racing against the clock!

You can also use the play pen at other people’s homes or when you are traveling. Because they are already familiar with this space, using it for sleeping away from home is an easy transition. There are many times when it is very convenient to be able to put your child in a play pen or pack n play and have him contained.

When my kids were little I used it when we went camping, went to the beach, in hotel rooms, outside in our yard, when I was nursing the baby, etc. It was a wonderful tool that came in very handy ALL the time. It made life with young children significantly easier. I knew that I had 2 blocks of time in my day ( not including naptime) to do whatever it was that I needed to do. This allowed me to be more focused and present with my kids for the rest of the day. It also allowed me to get dinner on the table each evening. (playpen time happened every day at 4:00!)

Once your child is old enough (usually around 2 ½ -4 yrs. old) he can graduate to playing in his room with a gate at the door. The room will need to be safe to play unattended. The gate will still give him the physical boundary that he needs at that age. Small spaces with physical boundaries give kids a ton of security and generally make them happier and more content. A young child who has too much physical freedom many times can get out of control. They can also be whiny/fussy all the time. The simple act of bringing in their physical boundary makes them feel safe and secure. That’s why people who own larger homes with young children need to have gates within their home. Young children shouldn’t have the run of the house. It’s just too much physical freedom for them to handle.
