And in today's second installment of "How about that guy Tom King's brain??"... did you know the man basically developed an entire stabbing-as-sex metaphor between Batman and Joker over the course of multiple comics and that it's just absolutely bonkers? :)
So. Remember this spectacular page from Batman/Catwoman (2021) #9, in which Joker describes a particular fantasy of his regarding Batman?
Tumblr media
"And that's when I put the knife into him. [...] And I put the knife in him again." Joker could not have made this more about sex if he tried. Hell, he tells Selina that he thinks he could fuck Batman better than her. But alright, keeping this in mind-- the metaphor of the knife and penetration, what does it imply about the other two times Tom King has written interactions between Batman and Joker where there's a knife present?
Alright, I'm putting the rest under the cut, since there's a lot of comic panels, my own ranting... and attempted stabbing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman: The Brave and the Bold #9 ("The Winning Card")
In The Winning Card, a reimagining of Batman and Joker's first ever meeting, we get two fights between them that are so heavy with symbolism; but it's the second confrontation we're interested in, and that's pictured above. We see that it was Joker who drew blood the first time... it's him who sunk the knife penetrated Bruce at the very beginning. And really, was there a need for the unending focus on Bruce pulling out the blade? But then there's what he does next, and the way it's framed... He starts beating Joker, but then realizes that beating him does absolutely nothing.
So he switches to trying to communicate with him, to trying to tell (the worst) possible joke, all while holding up the knife:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First of all: genuinely terrifying, if I may so myself. Secondly, we're shown Bruce bringing down the knife doing the penetrating, but the next page is not about him having killed Joker. It's Bruce and Alfred having gone fishing, talking about what happened... and why Bruce left Joker alive.
And this is how Tom King chooses to have Bruce say it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"He put the knife in me." Tom King I am inside your walls. This is exactly how Joker phrased it in his fantasy. And then, we're shown that Bruce couldn't kill Joker; he stuck the knife in him, but didn't kill him.
But what's the other time Tom King wrote Batman, Joker and a knife? Well, that's during the infamous The War of Jokes and Riddles. We're told TWOJAR happened in the second year of Batman's career, so (at least in King's little Universe) pretty soon after The Winning Card-- which takes place in Year 1. And in TWOJAR, after finding out Riddler's motivation for causing so many lives to be lost, Bruce tries to stab him:
Tumblr media
[squinting my eyes suspiciously] Thrust the knife out, huh. But then, Bruce never manages to commit murder, because Joker steps in:
Tumblr media
Batman (2016) #32
So. If we follow King's own metaphor... Batman tried to have sex with the Riddler and Joker stopped him. Joker couldn't allow it. Bruce ended up stabbing penetrating him instead.
Tumblr media
Pictured above: me
Is King the first to do this sort of thing? No, obviously not. Miller equated the violence between Batman and Joker to sex in The Dark Knight Returns, Snyder and Capullo did that too in both Death of the Family and Endgame. Still, it's... deliciously fucked up, and I thought it needed some showcasing.

i am making this an art blog now, so i thought i should actually start posting my art here. i finished this drawing today and the rest of the art in this post is from newest to oldest. this post is most of my batman-related art since the last time i posted a big amount of batman art (which was december 2022).
i have a heavy preference for drawing batjokes but am trying to draw more and more of the rogues gallery. i have my own vague storyline ideas that include both batman and the joker being trans men, but in my story he is called bruceman/bat wayne.
Tumblr media
2024-07-10 -- i do an annual redraw of this meme. this was the fifth version. the first time i drew it (in 2021) was the first time i had tried to properly draw either of them, despite having a deep batman interest for a long long time, and drawing for even longer.
Tumblr media
2024-06-28 -- i spent 41 and a half hours on this one. my first big attempt at pixel art. it was from a bad chronic illness week so it was meant as a purposely ugly and simple drawing but it spiralled out of control.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2024-07-05 and 2024-05-11 -- my concept art for the scarecrow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2024-04-22 and 2024-03-21 and 2024-02-11 -- the joker taunting bat wayne, an argument with alfred, a community meme redraw that i didn't like the end result of but was unwell while drawing so i give myself a break.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2024-02-08 and 2024-02-06 -- the riddler being desperate for attention on social media, my two-face concept art
Tumblr media
2024-01-27 -- my take on the oft-parodied the amazing spider-man #601 cover art.
Tumblr media
2024-01-18 -- joker thinks he's being sneaky but doesn't know he's with the same person twice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2024-01-11 and 2024-01-10 -- catwoman being fun and sillie (from before i redesigned her weird mask and goggles that i originally tried to give her)
art from 1 and 8 december of 2023 that i posted on here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
both from 2023-09-10 -- a couple of quick low effort drawings from when i was feeling funky
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2023-08-06 and 2023-08-13 and 2023-08-18 -- mini comic where you can see the comic formatting skill developing in each part.. just a small story idea i had revolving around a double joke about bat wayne's Identity. and still figuring out how to draw the riddler.
Tumblr media
2023-08-02 -- my first depiction of riddler & first drawing of har-lee (my name for harley quinn) out of costume.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2023-06-18 and 2023-06-15 -- my first drawings ever of har-lee; i did not stick with this costume design for her because i fixed it and made it actually look good and make sense at all a whole year later (character design is my weakness), and also just a simple meme.
youtube
2023-06-15 -- i don't have an animation program, so making this was a real struggle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2023-04-28 and 2023-04-23 -- bruceman picking up tampons in the middle of a fight, bruceman and joker "fighting".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2023-04-04 and 2023-03-21 -- Earring Magic J, joker being the autistic, gay, trans dad of autistic, gay, trans pee-wee herman (including muffin the cat from batman: legends of the dark knight #50)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
all from 2022-11-14 -- a comic Not about being trans, no, not at all...
Tumblr media
2022-11-27 -- a fully rendered version of the last panel.
there's more that's not included here because of the 30 image limitation, but those are mostly further concept drawings of har-lee that i didn't like, and lower quality joke drawings. one bigger thing i've left out are stills from an animatic/animation project i started quite a while back (it's not even my only WIP of that kind) and haven't continued progress on for a while. i would prefer to share that all at once whenever it's finished.

i was looking at the latest gotham war stuff and i was wondering, when did jason and rose become besties/lovers all of a sudden??
All of sudden isn't quite right, sorry to say. Maybe it's more like they had more moments in elseworlds.
They've been "exes" (more likely just hooked up) since what, 2015? Here's a panel from Red Hood and the Outlaws #39. They're already stated as allies in this comic (despite the panel i'll use to show their relationship there lol)
Tumblr media
And then it was picked up in the Titans show, for whatever reason, I won't put the scenes here but you get the idea. They also have a dynamic in the tie-in (?) comics, Titans Together but not together but in good-ish terms
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They were together in the DCeased elseworld as well in 2020 (please dont say daaamn when you see the art)
Tumblr media
Then it was hinted in Dark Nights, late 2020, early 2021. Williamson might have been the one to bring them into focus in main continuity but dont @ me if i'm wrong
Tumblr media
They were also exes on the Future State elseworld in 2021, both Dark Detective and Gotham (both written by Williamson)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They were hinted at in the Robin solo too (Williamson, yes, you guessed it)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and to what you were talking about, Rosenberg in particular seems to be a big fan because she's been featured in The Joker who Stopped Laughing and Gotham War: Red Hood
Tumblr media
and that's it I believe.

Has Batman ever thought about letting joker die on his own? Without joker first having done something to make Batman choose his death like how in death of the family joker’s death was almost pre-determined. But has Batman ever thought about it?
Hello, anon!
Batman has certainly thought about killing Joker before, as well as letting him die due to wounds sustained while in battle. The only comic I can recall at the moment of Batman explicitly thinking about letting Joker die is Legends of The Dark Knight 2021 Issues #2-3
under the cut for panel specifics
Joker inhales too much of his own joker toxin while they are fighting in a helicopter. This leads to the helicopter crash landing in Gotham waters (it's also where we get that famous scene of Batman giving Joker mouth-to-mouth CPR). Batman is the only one of the two who has the serum for the joker toxin and, after taking half of the serum he looks at Joker's tear and vomit-stained face and we then get these panels:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, Joker taunts Batman for having taken so long to give him the serum and thinking about letting him die. This concludes with Batman once again saving Joker from the brink of death. An interesting point about this comic is that before we get these panels Bruce is actually thinking about a quote from his father about how all life is precious and must be fought for, even the lives of scum like Joker. It makes me wonder if even from the beginning of the comic Bruce was already considering killing Joker for having killed several GCPD cops in a warehouse for seemingly no reason. Or if this was another one of Bruce's classic Breakdowns™.
Nonetheless, Legend of The Knight Comics, don't fall into any linear timeline and can be seen as 'moments' that happened anywhere in the DC universe so we may never know if there was more ulterior motive here.

A job offer discovered in June 2020 indicated, for example, that he was preparing the future of the series. However, everything suggests that he is well in the plans of Warner Bros. Injustice 3 or something else before?Ī third episode of Injustice has not yet been officially announced. An Injustice 3 announcement would therefore have its place in a DC FanDome. The Many Faces of Dick Grayson
Tumblr media
Looking at Dick Grayson’s 80 plus years of history, he sure has had many names and faces over the multiverses...
Tumblr media
A Flying Grayson (Batman v 3 # 54)
Tumblr media
Robin, Nightwing and Batman, obviously. (Batman 66 Meets The Green Hornet # 8; Detective Comics # 165; JLA/The Titans # 1)
Tumblr media
Rick Danner (a what if-story where Batman is believed to be killed, Dick continues as Robin but changes his civilan identity. World's Finest Comics # 184, 1969)
Tumblr media
Former Ambassador, and lawyer Richard M Grayson. (America vs the Justice Society, 1985)
Tumblr media
Red Robin (Kingdom Come, 1996)
Tumblr media
Officer Grayson (Nightwing vol 2 # 50, 78, 2000, 2003)
Tumblr media
The Target (Nightwing The Target, 2001)
Tumblr media
Freddy Loyd (when he ran away from Bruce in Robin: Year One), an alias made up from his parents’ names.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Talon (on New 52 Earth-3, the morally-flipped world where Thomas Wayne Jr/Owlman killed Dick’s parents and sister Rachel to make Dick emotionally bond with him. Talon was later killed by the Joker. His story is told in Justice League vol 2  # 23.4 and # 25, but you never see him as Talon there. This Talon picture is from Nightwing Vol 4 # 17, where Dick sees different versions of himself. I guess this is supposed to be Talon from Earth-3.
Post-Crisis and before Court of Owls was invented, there was another Talon of Earth-3. He worked with Owlman for a time and later got engaged to Duela Dent, and the two of them came to the pre-Flashpoint main universe and joined the Teen Titans during the “year after” (2006). But his identity was never revealed, and his predecessor had been killed, so he might very well not have been the Dick Grayson of that world. (However, the Talon suit in Nightwing Vol 4 # 17 has copied that look.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Talon, those few panels when great grandfather William Cobb managed to brain-wash the main continuity Dick with the help of a magic (?) crystal. Nightwing Vol 4 # 66, 67. 2020)
Tumblr media
And a Talon (or Owl) again, in the elseworld story Batman: Last Knight on Earth, 2019–2020).
Tumblr media
Deadman (Injustice Gods Among Us Year 3 # 21, 2015)
Tumblr media
"Junior” Malone (The Power Company: Manhunter, 2002).
Tumblr media
Agent 37 (Grayson # 2, 2014). In communications with Batman, he used the codename Birdwatcher.
(He almost got to be John Blake instead of Agent 37, too. See here)
Tumblr media
Gray Son of Gotham, was what the Court called him. (Robin War # 2).
Tumblr media
And another Gray Son, in Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Hush (2020)
Tumblr media
Crutches (when going undercover with the bad guys with a wounded leg, Nightwing Vol 2 108, 2005)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Renegade (somewhat later undercover with the bad guys in Nightwing Vol 2 # 114, after Deathstroke's daughter Rose hassled him to choose a new name).
Tumblr media
Coerced into being Slade’s apprentice. (Teen Titans S1Ep11-12, 2003)
Tumblr media
Doctor Fate. (Flashpoint Deadman and the Flying Graysons # 3)
Tumblr media
Commander Grayson (on the Justice Lord earth in Batman Beyond 2.0. # 23)
Tumblr media
Red X. (Teen Titans S1Ep9, “Masks”, 2003)
Tumblr media
“Ric” (Nightwing Vol 4 # 50, # 62, # 69, 2018–2020)
Tumblr media
Dicky Boy (Nightwing Vol 4 # 71, 2020)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mayor Grayson (Batman Beyond 2016, # 25 and 45)
Tumblr media
Commissioner Grayson (Batman/Catwoman # 3, 2021)

wait when was the last time all caste stuff was referenced?
Alright so I actually made a slight error in one of my earlier posts, and it was referenced a little more recently on panel than I thought because I forgot the Joker War Tie-In had interrupted the last big arc with the All-Caste during RHATO (as a 'oh look! a missing thing we didn't show you that happened earlier!' type story) rather than come after it. So this most recent All-Caste stuff actually happened chronologically after Joker War.
So Red Hood: Outlaw #49 is the last on-panel place it really came up, with him in the Chamber of All and using an All-Blade (yes he's with his past self. it's a whole thing):
Tumblr media
(Red Hood: Outlaw #49)
But he also is holding one of the All-Blades on the cover for #50, and that issue references things from that last arc too, so that's another thing to bear in mind:
Tumblr media
(Cover of Red Hood: Outlaw #50)
And as I posted here, it's mentioned on his page of The DC Comics Encyclopedia New Edition, published in July of 2021 so like... that's technically the most recent thing.

How many times has the joker cried? I cant remember any times he did at the moment but im very curious in which situations has he allowed himself to be so vulnarable
The most famous time Joker has cried is in Batman: The Killing Joke:
Tumblr media
The script describes his tears mixing with the rain. It's the most genuinely vulnerable Joker has ever been, since it didn't happen because some external factor forced him into sanity and regretting his actions-- a thing that's happened in comics like four or five times at this point. In TKJ, it was all him. If you're curious about a more extensive list of stories in which Joker's humanity is explored, you can find one I compiled a while ago here.
Obviously, Joker has faked crying multiple times to manipulate the people around him... Harley included. But there's one other time that Joker says he shed tears for real. We don't see it on the page, but I personally think Joker wasn't lying:
Tumblr media
Batman: Secrets #3
Then there's the whole third part of Bad Night, Good Knight, with this specific highlight:
Tumblr media
Legends of the Dark Knight (2021) #3
You could argue the tears are because of the vomiting, the almost-drowning, the pain. But the story implies it's more than that. I do recommend reading the whole thing.
And, well. It depends on your interpretation, but there's this more recent panel from Joker War:
Tumblr media
Batman (2016) #100
Maybe they're tears of mirth. Maybe they aren't. Either way, I like it a lot as a choice on the side of the artist... it's a divorce in ways not even Endgame was, so it merits some tears.
Bottom line is, yes, Joker has cried more than once. For completeness' sake, I will also mention the time Joker cries in Joker (2008), Azzarello's graphic novel... but it isn't canonical, thank God. I really dislike this story, so if you're curious about that moment, I bid you the best of luck in making your way through it.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, DC, and Warner Bros. Animation continue their traditional DC Universe Movies appearance at Comic-Con with a star-studded panel discussing the most anticipated animated Super Hero release of the year–Batman: the Long Halloween! Inspired by the iconic mid-1990s DC story from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two completes the two-film journey as the Holiday Killer is still at large and, with Bruce Wayne under the spell of the venomous Poison Ivy, Batman is nowhere to be found. Liberated by an unlikely ally, Bruce quickly uncovers the real culprit: Poison Ivy’s employer Carmine Falcone. The Roman, his ranks decimated by Holiday and his business spinning out of control, has been forced to bring on less desirable partners – Gotham City’s rogues’ gallery. In the meantime, Harvey Dent is confronting battles on two fronts: attempting to end the mob war while also dealing with a strained marriage. And, after an attack that leaves Harvey hideously disfigured, the District Attorney unleashes the duality of his psyche that he’s strived his entire life to suppress. Now, as Two-Face, Dent decides to take the law into his own hands and deliver judgment to those who’ve wronged him, his family, and all of Gotham. Ultimately, the Dark Knight must put together the tragic pieces that converged to create Two-Face, the Holiday Killer, Batman, and Gotham City itself. Watch the fun as panelists discuss the thrilling conclusion to this epic tale, including Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, Batman: Under the Red Hood) as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Katee Sackhoff (The Mandalorian, Battlestar Galactica, Batman: Year One) as Poison Ivy, Julie Nathanson (Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay) as Gilda Dent, Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Batman: Arkham Knight) as The Joker and screenwriter Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen, Superman: Man of Tomorrow). actress/host Tiffany Smith (He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, DC Daily) moderates the festivities. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the feature-length animated film–which will be accompanied by the latest DC Showcase animated short, Blue Beetle –arrives July 27, 2021, on Digital and August 10, 2021, on Blu-ray. Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two is rated R for some violence and bloody image.

if I'm remembering when you sent this correctly this is for these asks
What’s the most cursed panel you’ve seen?
I can't tell you what issue it's from, but I was recently shown some panels of Joey and Grant Wilson that looked like they'd been put into a blender with the joker and I hate it so much.
What’s the worst character assassination you’ve seen happen?
What Morrison did to Talia, The Qurac thing with Jade, and while arguably not as bad it still bothers me- what they've done to Shado boils my blood.
If you could cancel one comic book that’s running right now, what would it be?
Robin (2021). Also WFA, but I'm not sure that counts.

Arkham City The Order of the World #2 DC Comics 2021 Written by Dan Watters Illustrated by Dani Coloured by Dave Stewart Lettered by Aditya Bidikar    The Joker’s attack on Arkham Asylum left the long-standing Gotham establishment in ruin, most of the patients killed or missing, and only a handful of surviving staff-a few nurses, a gravely injured security guard, and one doctor. In the chaos of the assault, it is believed that several of the asylum’s patients escaped and scurried off into the dark nooks and crannies of Gotham City. Now, these Arkhamites walk among us, and it’s up to the Asylum’s one remaining doctor, Jocasta Joy, to round up her former patients. Meet these Arkhamites: a woman with no face, a pyggy in search of perfection, a man who feels nothing and burns everything, a woman who must devour life to save herself, a man unfit for the waking world who looks instead for Wonderland, a body with more than one soul, a being unbound from time who lives in the present and the past, a boy who seeks the comfort of vermin, and the twisted man who sees them all for who they are. And witness the avenging angel who stalks them.    Last issue introduced us to this story and Joy and this issue takes that and really amps up the feelings that I had from that.  The way that this is being told is phenomenal.  The story & plot development that we see through the way that the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well.  The character development that we see through the narration, the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how we see them act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter continues to flesh out these personalities beautifully.  The pacing is fantastic and as it takes us through the pages revealing more of where the patients are the more I want to see and learn about them.    How we see this being structured and how the layers within the story continue to emerge, grow, evolve and strengthen is exceptionally well rendered.  How we see the layers open up new avenues to be explored is phenomenal. I'm talking about The Ten Eyed Man’s look at the city, and how this adds so much depth, dimension and complexity to the story.  The way that everything works together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how we see it move the story forward is impeccably rendered.      The interiors here are dark, moody and a bit insane in their own right.  It fits the subject matter exceptionally well.  The linework  is bold, thick and how it brings about the detail within the work is amazing to witness.  There’s this creativity and imagination on display, mainly when it comes to Double X, that really takes us outside the box of what we think and shows us so much more that’s possible.  The way that backgrounds enhance and expand the moments or how the composition within the panels brings out this depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story is wonderfully handled.  The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows an interesting eye for storytelling.  The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work are so well rendered.       Joy being a Doctor at Arkham and so focused on her patients shows that she’s lost touch with reality in ways that make her just as dangerous as her patients.  The curse of Arkham is such a real and palpable thing.  At some point she’ll need to be in a cell alongside her patients and I doubt that there’s anything she can say or do at this point to sway my feelings about that and yet it’s a driving factor behind this story that makes it so compelling.  With such amazingly strong writing and deep dark characterisation alongside these sytlised interiors we see how much Arkham has changed those it housed as well as how it changed the very city itself and that’s a powerful thing to convey.
