THIS is why you keep FAILING to blend in on ANCIENT EARTH!
Getting stuck on Earth of the past is a surprisingly common occurrence for Starfleet crews. Between slingshots, Q, Devidians, orbs, Borg, kemocite explosions, rogue temporal agents and stray tachyons stuck in your ablative armour; we estimate 80% of time travel occurrences land officers specifically on Earth in North America in the 100 years between the 1930s and 2030s (give or take).
This is your guide on how to stay undercover until you escape.
What year is this?
Try not to ask this question. It is not something that comes up in regular conversation so it will look weird. Instead, look for a shop with large folded batches of paper on display. These will be newspapers and will invariably show the date in the corner of the front page.
If you have 24th-century technology, you might also be able to tell from the level of pollution or radiation in the atmosphere, or from astrometric readings.
Continue to check the news for more information about this era, its society and historical events that you may be influencing.
Where are you from?
Try not to be specific lest they know the place and ask if you know someone there. Keep it to a general “up north”. If you’re quite far north already, substitute with “down south”.
If you stand out a fair bit, suggest that you are from France (unless you are in France, of course, but this is statistically unlikely). But do not suggest your Vulcan officer had a rice-picking incident or that you are a secret agent; such stories may be read as too outlandish. Plan your cover as soon as possible and research your era and location to get your facts straight.
Funny looking pyjamas
People of this era consider Starfleet uniforms to look like pyjamas. Go with that and say you had to leave your flat in the middle of the night due to a fire or an argument with the “missus”. This is also a good opportunity to appeal for advice on where you can find replacement clothes.
If necessary, do not be afraid of stealing period-appropriate clothes to maintain your cover. It may not be moral, but you will be less disruptive to the timeline by stealing a shirt than walking around in full uniform.
You should avoid high-security places when committing theft without technological aid; interacting with law enforcement can be deadly in this era. This is especially true for officers who cannot pass as humans of the local dominant ethnic group; these individuals should lay low as much as possible.
Non-human officers
The unexpected nature of time travel may preclude preparation for non-humans to hide their more obvious alien features. Some species (Betazoids, Deltans, Baku) can easily pass as humans and will have no problem blending in. Others may pose a challenge. Here are ideas of how to stay covert;
Vulcans, Romulans: Wear a hat, sweatband or long hair to cover your ears and eyebrows.
Bajorans: A band-aid over the nose and pass it off as an injury.
Trill: Pass off your spots as tattoos or wear a hood to cover the sides of your head.
Former Borg: Pass off your implants as jewellery or a body mod. Draw on some extra tattoos to add to the effect. Alternative communities can provide great cover to non-humans due to their non-conformity with the dominant society.
Orions, Andorians, Bolians: Add makeup and glitter to your face and say you’re going to a festival (Andorians should also wear a hat for the antenna - pick a flashy one to add to the festival aesthetic).
Cardassians, Ferengi, Klingons etc.: This is a lot harder. These species should stay hidden as much as possible unless there is a “comic book convention” in town. In this case, steal a lanyard and offer to pose for a photo to anyone who gets suspicious. They will assume you are in an elaborate costume seeking attention
These later examples will protect officers in casual interactions but will be out of place if entering more formal environments.
Zippers
Clothing items and bags on Earth often used a device called a “zipper” formed of metal teeth. You placed the ends together then pulled a tog up to close the two sides of the fabric. You won’t be familiar with these because they have been banned by the 2274 Oddenbery Accords after zippers were instrumental in the collapse of space-time in the Kandari sector that cost 6 million lives.
It goes without saying that 20th-century humans should not be made aware of the mortal danger zippers pose to the universe or you may alter the timeline. Holographic versions are safe to use if you wish to practice their function and blend in.
Currency
Old Earth still relied on capitalist economics and the use of currency which had no intrinsic value. This currency often took the form of circles of decorated metal and printed slips of paper; in later decades it was also electronic, traded via plastic rectangles. The plastic rectangles will be unobtainable to you (and if stolen, would allow your movements to be tracked) but you should be aware of their purpose.
Currency was required to even access the most essential services such as shelter and food so your first priority should be acquiring some of these scraps of paper.
Theft: Ideally you don’t want to steal from individuals. Poverty was widespread and you could impact someone's life significantly. Instead, if safe to do so you should aim to steal from an institution such as a bank’s currency dispenser (such companies would not be impacted by small-scale theft due to something called “insurance”).
Trade: If you have on you something that holds an intrinsic value that does not contain components from the future, consider taking it to a “Porn Shop”. Tell the shop owner you have something to sell and you can obtain legal tender from them.
Labour: Those at the bottom of the socio-economic hierarchy obtained currency via performing labour for most of the day. Your best bet is irregular work such as cleaning; this will give a very low return of currency despite intense labour but it is your best way to stay under the radar.
Gambling: Humans of this century gambled a great deal more than they had the resources to. If you have an unfair natural advantage in the games they play then you should find people willing to place a wager. Humans bet on anything, from animal races to elections or their whole economy.
Humans were particularly attached to their money and gave it names like “Abe” or “Benjamin” to create a bond with it. You should come up with your own (human) names for any money you obtain to blend in with capitalist exchanges.
Note that this region was fond of “tipping”. This is when low-wage staff were given extra money by the customer beyond the stated value of the service to compensate for their employer paying their staff less than that needed to survive. This will often be indicated by holding out a hand or a quiet cough.
Colourful metaphors
Profanity is common on old Earth in a way that is seen as inappropriately aggressive today. Nobody pays any attention to you if you don't swear every other word. So you may need to employ some yourself in casual conversation to truly blend in. Many words used then are now automatically censored by our universal translators such as ****, ****, ***** him, go **** yourself up your ******* *******, **** ** ***** **** then ***, and *.
Transport
North America of this era was obsessed with a highly inefficient and dangerous form of personal transport known as the automobile (or “car”). These will likely end up being your primary form of transport and being a proficient driver of these vehicles is important for blending in. So you best spend an hour on the holodeck familiarising yourself with the control scheme of its interior.
Mass transit also existed, though due to chronic underinvestment in the regions you are statistically most likely to arrive in, you may find it difficult to obtain. The most common of these are “buses” which are large automobiles capable of moving around 50-100 people at a time along major routes. Usage will require currency; be sure to check the fare before boarding as some may require “exact change” to be provided.
And the timeline?
Let’s leave that side of things to the boys at the Department for Temporal Investigations. But what we will say is that this era is particularly savage. You may be tempted to right injustices left, right and centre (there are a lot) but if you, say, save a woman from getting killed by one of those deadly automobiles we mentioned then you could find out that the whole timeline is thrown off course.
So follow these tips, keep your head down and look for a way home. That is unless you cause the death of a pivotal revolutionary figure and need to take their place to restore the timeline. Naturally.
What tips do you have for passing as a local on ancient Earth? Let us know below and Follow us for more essential tips in your Starfleet career!

Hi! How about some domestic and nsfw hc for Rayan? The sandy-skinned god deserves some love too 😆
Domestic Life with Rayan
N/A : This took a little while to write, sorry you had to wait dear !
Warning : NSFW under the cut
Goes to the Cosy Bear Café every morning before heading to Anteros Academy to have a little chat with Candy and enjoy a cup of coffee with her (also if she needs to and that he has the time to do so, he helps her to put the tables outside)
Sometimes, when he’s done with his classes of the day, he comes to the Café and sit in corner, sipping on a drink, while he’s preparing his next classes, grading some of his students’s essays or simply reading a book
He always order something different to drink because he wants to try everything Candy put on the menu
Grocery shopping with Rayan is so funny because he has his little list and it always begins with him following it diligently but he’ll always end up wandering around the aisles (and Candy looses him in the supermarket)
He and Candy often end up buying everything but what’s on the list lmao
Loves perfumed candles, there’s dozen in their apartment (I JUST KNOW THIS, and if Candy looses him during grocery shopping, he's probably picking up some)
He likes cleaning days and he’s very particular about the cleaning products he uses (once again he spends so much time in the supermarket choosing them)
He often puts on jazz or (modern) classical music in the background while he’s working or reading
He knows all the tea about the neighbours and he shares it with Candy (he’s very good at small talk and at connecting with people, therefore my man end up being told everything that’s going on in the building lol)
Likes doing online shopping with Candy (whether it’s for him or her)
Watching documentaries (documentaries on Ancient Greece or just historical documentaries in general and that’s just a personal intake ‘cause I love these lol) together while cuddling on the couch with Rayan combing her fingers through Candy’s hair
Actually, loves playing with Candy’s hair when they’re cuddling
Random compliments all the time (like complimenting her outfit or just tell her that she’s the most beautiful woman he met)
naps together became a habit, especially during more stressful times of the year
also sleeps in on Sundays and would probably make a brunch with Candy afterward
Rayan wearing his glasses when he reads or when he’s on his computer and Candy going feral because of this (sorry but the illustration of him for that Valentine’s Day event, LORD HAVE MERCY)
He’s often the one that organises the dates : he love trying new restaurant and I think he likes gastronomic cuisine since he finds it as tasty as it is pretty
He also likes the kind of dates that allow him and Candy to show their creative side (like the date in one of the Valentine’s Day event where they went to a workshop to make perfume, that was so sweet btw)
He likes to go out with Candy whenever they can but he also enjoys when they stay home together for some quality time
𝙽𝚂𝙵𝚆 :
When it comes to oral, he’s a giver. He’s not really the one to tease but he likes taking his sweet time doing so
He likes to receive it too though and if Candy wants to get on her knees, he has no objections
however he loves it the most when it happens in the morning (the morning wood oops) or at his office at Anteros during an unexpected visit
About that, he may or may have not fucked Candy on his desk and it may have happened more than once (I had to do this one, I MEAN GUYS)
Candy trying on his glasses for fun and him realising he has a thing for this because she look so hot with them
Would moan but lowkey you know ? Like he isn’t that loud but he doesn’t restrain himself either (And I just know this man has a deep voice so it’d be music to Candy’s ears)
However, he likes it if Candy gets loud and it makes him go even harder
Praises. A lot of them. Also call her with pet names during sex (might let out a « good girl » and ahhhh)
he owns a copy of the Kama Sutra (I am not saying that he’s into that or anything - even though he really might - but he definitely read it because well, as art enthusiast, of course he wanted to know a little more about the art of making love)
As much as he loves admiring Candy’s face, he loves backshots (because it allows him to hit it deep)
Breading kink ? (Maybeeee)
Despite all, I don't think he's really into being called Daddy (even tho he has that "Daddy aura", whatever that means, idk myself) because it'd make him think of that Freudian theory lol
I'm sorry I am taking so long to post (I didn't expect to receive this much requests but I'm also glad to see that the fandom is still alive lol) but I'm trying my best to answer them all !

ATEEZ Honeymoon HCs
Summary: I wrote a few thousand words on what I thought a honeymoon would be like with each member of ATEEZ. I hope you all enjoy ✨
Many many thanks to @bfyunho for beta-ing and generally being my favorite person 💕
Warnings: fluff and smut. 18+ ONLY!
Seonghwa
Y’all already KNOW that a honeymoon with Seonghwa is just gonna be two weeks of him exercising his duality
Constant love-making? Absolutely. But also! Lots of interesting things to do and many opportunities to make memories
Where’s he gonna do that? A large resort suite all to yourselves in Mediterranean ItalyIt’s warm, sensual, fun, perfect--everything you ever wanted
Days spent wandering the town, swimming, finding museums and restaurants
Seonghwa insists on taking selfies at every single location--he wants to know every single one of these moments long after his memory has failed him
Sunbathing on a private sailboat on the Amalfi Coast, soaking in the vitamin D
The ship’s captain finds a beautiful, unoccupied spot in a shallow cove, and drops anchor
He then heads into the cabin of the boat to give you and your husband some privacy
Seonghwa sits on a lounge chair behind you, rubbing sunscreen on your shoulders
He’s letting his hands move just as slowly and sensually across your skin as he wants, taking his time in listening to your breath hitch in your throat
Eventually ducking his head down to press his lips to a spot on your neck he hasn’t covered yet, while his thumbs still rub circles on your shoulders
Giving all his attention to that one area, biting lightly then sucking the skin to soothe it
You lean your head back, giving him all the access he could want, and a soft sigh escapes your parted lips
His hair tickles your shoulder, but Seonghwa doesn’t linger long before he’s turning you to face him so he can kiss you properly
He’s got the ties of your swimsuit undone in seconds, and you throw your legs over Seonghwa’s hips as soon as it’s off
You grind yourself on him, abusing his swim shorts in your pursuit of a little friction
Hwa grips you by the waist, firmly but not enough to hurt. Just enough to get you close--enough to help you rise and fall on him
Something occurs to you, and you break the kiss to breathlessly murmur in his ear
“You need sunscreen, too. You’re gonna burn.”
Hwa chuckles, dangerously low, flashing his teeth as he reaches down with one hand and picks up the bottle he’d set on the deck
“My wife is so considerate,” he coos, handing it to you
You take it, rolling your eyes. But Seonghwa’s arms tighten around you once more, and you’re brought close to the tent in his shorts again
“Will you put some on me too, then?” He looks up at you with puppy dog eyes that are completely betrayed by his pupils, blown wide
You squeeze some of the lotion into your hands and let the bottle fall down as you spread it over his shoulders
You’re consumed by his kiss again, gripping his shoulders, arms, neck, wherever you can reach
His skin rubs slick against yours because of the sunscreen, and all you can taste is the salt on Seonghwa’s lips as he does away with his shorts and finally pushes into you
It doesn’t take more than ten minutes of soft moans, grinding, and his mouth against your neck for you to come, head thrown back and facing the sun
Your husband isn’t long after, burying his face in the crook of your shoulder as he loses himself in you
When you’ve come down from your high, Seonghwa stands slowly and pulls you with him
“Let’s go swimming.”
You spend the rest of the afternoon wading in the shallow waters of the cove, soaking in the sun and kicking up the white sand with your toes
When the sun starts to slide down the sky, setting everything aglow with orange and gold, Seonghwa stands behind you and holds his lips to the back of your head
His arms are around you, and your joined form sways gently with the waves until the sun falls away completely
When you get back to the resort, you both shower off and Seonghwa presents you with a beautiful dress to wear to dinner
He wines and dines you every single night, even making an effort to learn some Italian to more easily place your orders and interact with locals
And each night, he lifts his glass and toasts, “To you, Mrs. Park.”
Hongjoong
It took exactly zero convincing for you to get Hongjoong to agree to Paris
He loved the idea right away, because it’s a city known for its art and fashion
You reserve a penthouse room in the heart of Paris, with floor to ceiling windows and sheer white curtains
The two of you arrive in Paris decked out in the most impeccable airport fashion, ready to paint the city red
Unfortunately, the jet lag hits you both a little harder than expected
So you spend the rest of the first day sleeping and eating in bed, to the backdrop of sultry French soul music playing over the radio
The next morning, you wake up just as the sun is beginning to peek over the rooftops
It sends gold rays through the blue light of the morning
You slept with the windows cracked, and the soft breeze blows through the curtains
He’s sleeping next to you, and you curl up against him, perfectly content to get a few more minutes of sleep
His t-shirt smells like him--like home-- and you smile to yourself
But something less wholesome is going on his head
Hongjoong’s eyebrows tilt and his lips part as he whimpers in his sleep
It’s an expression you recognize, although he’s only ever made it while he’s very much awake
Usually as you take him, nails grazing down his stomach, watching his head fall back against the pillows
You have to wonder if that’s what he’s dreaming about, but you’re not about to sit by and let the dream version of you have all the fun
Throwing a leg over his hips, you rest your hands on Joong’s chest and slowly kiss his neck
He moans softly, eyes opening as he wakes
His hands find your hips, pulling you against the growing hardness in his sweatpants, and there’s a sheepish smirk on his face
“Sounded like a good dream,” you whisper against his lips
Hongjoong smiles in the dim light, his eyes flicking to your mouth
“It was,” he replies
His hand is creeping up your back, fingers purposely snagging on your t-shirt
“But nothing compared to this, and nothing compared to you,” he says, and kisses you firmly
You’re not usually one for morning sex, but this lazy love is exquisite in its own way
It’s all slow touches and kisses that are soft but not lacking in passion
Hongjoong shifts to be on top of you and your noses bump, causing both of you to giggle a bit
Joong hides his face in your neck, but takes the opportunity to place a few kisses there
The pair of you take your time in climbing the mountain, but you reach the peak at the same time, hands clasped and legs tangled
You tilt your head a little to watch his face as he comes because the sight of him, and the sounds he’s making, are nothing short of gorgeous
Following an equally slow comedown, you shower off together and clamber back into bed for another couple hours of sleep
When you’re both a bit more rested, you set out on foot to explore the city
Munching on croissants with Hongjoong at an outdoor cafe, and sipping espressos before setting off again
You stop at a small flower stand, and Joong buys you a handful of roses
As you walk on, he has his hands in his pockets, and you loop your arm through his
The content smile playing on his lips gives you a high, and you bask in the moment
The following day, you drive to the Musee du Louvre, and stay until closing time
Joong looks at the art, and you look at him, admiring your own masterpiece
You’re thankful you ended up here because it gives you a perfect, constant view of his profile, from his starry eyes to the tip of his nose to his lovely mouth
He catches you staring at him, and blushes while trying to suppress a smile
You do another day trip to the palace and gardens at Versailles, holding hands as you stroll through the ornate, golden halls and endless paths adorned by flowers
And, of course, it’s not a trip to Paris, or a trip with Hongjoong, if there isn’t shopping for clothes at some point
You pick outfits out for each other in the city’s best boutiques de vetements, from sleek luxury retailers to some of the more underrated shops in the art district
The two of you end up having to buy another suitcase for all the clothes you bring back, but this turn of events is shocking to no one
It’s the most fun you could have on a vacation, and your only consolation for having to go home at the end of the week is getting to start the best adventure of all
Being married to your best friend
Yunho
You’ve always wanted to visit Austria
What better occasion than your honeymoon to spend a week in Salzburg?
It’s all wonderful-- the music, scenery, history, and dancing!
It’s a series of beautiful moments from the very start of your trip
You and Yunho watch Harry Potter together on the plane there, sharing earbuds and mouthing the spells together
At one point, Yunho moves the armrest so the two of you can comfortably hold hands
You doze off together, heads resting against each other, and are only awoken by the captain announcing that you’ve landed
You were worried about jet lag, but your Energizer bunny husband has an abundance of contagious excitement
You drop your bags at the hotel, change clothes, and immediately set off on your first adventure
It’s a sunny, breezy day and the sweet aroma of flowers on balconies is everywhere
You’re strolling hand in hand down a cobblestone road in the historic district of the town when you and Yunho hear the music at the same time
You’re drawn like magnets to the sound of a small band playing on the sidewalk
Yunho pulls you in for a dance, just like you knew he would, one grasping yours and the other pulling you close by the waist
As he swings you in circles, you think to yourself, this is why you married him
His carefree nature, spontaneity, and the joy his spirit radiates
And the laughter in your ears that’s just as much music as the instruments being played on the corner of the street
Though you don’t know the steps, and you’re pretty sure Yunho is making them up on the spot, you never once stumble over each other
He ends the dance by twirling you around, tickled pink at how much fun you’re both having
Next, you find a little outdoor cafe, and insist on feeding him yourself
Yunho is blushing and acting like he thinks it’s ridiculous, but when you finally give up, he picks up the fork and hands it back to you with a sheepish smile
You giggle and scoop up a piece of the chocolate cake you’re sharing, watching his cheeks turn pink as he accepts it
By the time the cake is finished, you’ve got a bit of chocolate icing on the corner of your mouth
Instead of just pointing it out to you, Yunho becomes Yunhoe
There’s a mischievous glint in his eyes as he reaches across the little table and swipes his thumb across your lip
You thought he was just being cute, until he brings his hand back to his mouth and sucks the icing off his thumb
As you watch with a smirk, Yunho gives you a look that makes it clear he’s doing the math in his head of how quickly you can get back to the hotel room
He throws a handful of Euros on the table (more than the bill would’ve been) and grabs your hand
Twenty minutes later, you stumble backwards out of the elevator, arms thrown around Yunho’s shoulders
His mouth is hot over yours, and you have to laugh at yourself for not even making it one day before jumping each other
But hey-- what are honeymoons for, right?
He breaks your kiss only to swipe the key card at the room door, but his lips are right back on yours as soon as he can
Yunho picks you up, wrapping your legs around his waist, and blindly pushes the door open behind you
You’re not sure whose idea it was, or if either of you even thought about it, but you end up bent over the balcony railing, your lower half shielded from pedestrians below only by flower boxes
Yunho’s got one hand around your waist, and the other hand braced on the railing
He’s groaning softly between kisses against the side of your neck, thrusting into you from behind
At one point his hand drifts from your waist to press into your clit, causing your head to fall back against his shoulder
Yunho puts a hand over your mouth to stifle the moans that you can’t keep in
You come shortly after with a muffled cry into his palm, and Yunho bites into your shoulder as gently as he can to muffle his own noise when he comes a moment later
You take a few moments to come down before Yunho walks you inside to clean off
You collapse onto the bed together for a much-needed nap, dozing off peacefully in your favorite place in the world-- your husband’s arms
Yeosang
You had to reason with Yeosang just a little to get him to agree to go to Greece for your honeymoon
But once he realized why you picked it out of all places, he came around
It offers food, sunshine, fresh air, and many adventures in a place made for exploring
Getting excited on the plane ride in, giggling with each other and looking out the window at the islands like a couple of excited kids
You go searching for the best views in Santorini, climbing through the endless maze of steps between white and blue buildings
So many selfies--Yeosang smiling shyly with his cheek pressed to the side of your head
After a while, he really starts to relax and have fun, and his smiles in your pictures get wider and wider
One day is devoted entirely to walking through the market in town, buying random food items just because they smell good and holding them out for the other to try
At one point Yeosang slips away while you’re not paying attention
Trying not to panic, you look around, feeling like a child who’s lost their mom at a supermarket
Just as you’re starting to lose your breath, Yeosang catches you by the waist
You knew it was him just by his touch, but you still look to his face for the reassurance that he’s there
There’s a glint in his eye that implies he’s amused by your concern at losing him, but he tells you it’s okay, and shows you where he went:
A bright bouquet of flowers no doubt native to the island is bursting from his hands in marvelous yellows, pinks, and whites
You recognize Asphodels, but the rest are beautiful, nameless mysteries
They almost get crushed between your bodies as you throw your arms around Sangie and kiss him in full public view
No one seems to mind it though-- it appears as though love is in the air on this day, carried by the light sea breeze and lit by the sun
Yeosang smiles into the kiss before reminding you to be careful of your flowers
You take them from him with a grin, but when you’re on your way home, the smile turns into a pout
“Sang?” “Yeah?” “My feet hurt.”
Yeosang fakes a dramatic sigh, but it’s not another second before he’s crouching in front of you, holding his arms out behind him
You gleefully climb on, and Yeosang carries you the rest of the short walk to your AirBnB
He’ll never say it out loud, but his favorite thing in the world is feeling your arms around his shoulders
Just like on your wedding day, just like now, just like he wants every day for the rest of his life
Another day, the two of you are hiking through some of the more rural parts of Santorini, and happen upon a beautiful wild olive grove near a cliff face
You come back the next morning with a blanket and some snacks, and spend the entire day in the shade
Admiring him as you sit by the seaside, because he looks so stunning among the greens and blues and yellows
Again--SO. MANY. SELFIES
It’s not your fault he looks that good
Maybe he looks a little too good
Maybe you make a mess of your picnic blanket after grabbing your husband and pulling him on top of you
Once Yeosang looks around and ascertains that there’s absolutely no one around, he’s all game
His hands are bunching the skirt up around your hips, his mouth greedy and searching your neck for any spot that’ll make you whimper when he sucks into it
Your spot in paradise turns into rapture as his fingers meet your core, massaging you until you start to dig your nails into his shoulder
You’ve got one hand on his bicep and the other in his hair when he takes you in one smooth motion, finding his rhythm like he never dropped it in the first place
You come apart beneath him, and beneath the softly rustling leaves of the olive trees
The two of you fall asleep shortly after, completely relaxed in each other’s arms
Holding hands on your walks through the town at night, underneath the twinkle lights
You’ve married your best friend, and this is the best beginning to your lives together that you could ever imagine
Happiness settles around you like a light blanket, and you hope it stays forever
San
Don’t ask me why, but a glass igloo hotel in Iceland seems perfect
It’s cozy but not too small, and it’s the picture of quiet luxury
The glass walls and ceiling give you a beautiful view of the wide Icelandic sky, which is clear as crystal after a fresh snowfall
There’s a fireplace against one wall, with a fuzzy rug in front of it and many, many pillows
You spend the first evening snuggled up there with San, sipping hot chocolate and talking about every random thing you can think of
He keeps finding reasons to say “my wife”, getting all giggly every time he does
After you fall asleep, another storm rolls through, dropping an extra foot of powdery snow all around you
You and San are oblivious, however, because you’re both fast asleep under several layers of blankets
Safe and warm in your little nest, you nuzzle your face into San’s neck, and he tightens his arms around you in his sleep
Because being with you, and keeping you close, comes as naturally to him as breathing
When you wake up, you see the wonderland outside and it’s not even a discussion-- you and Sannie are outside as fast as you can put on your clothes
You play in the snow together, and his adorable laugh echoes around you every time he beans you with a snowball
Chasing each other around like little kids, giggling and kicking up the snow
San catches you by the waist and spins you around, making sure to never drop you
You wrestle around a bit but eventually end up making snow angels together
When you stand up to admire your outlines in the snow, San pulls you close and presses his face into your hair
Putting an arm around his waist, you brush some of the snow off his jacket
He catches your hand, and holds it to his chest, where you can feel his heart pounding
“Never forget that this beats for you, okay?”
You almost cry, but opt to pull San to you and press kisses all over his face instead
He just giggles and accepts every single peck on his quickly-heating cheeks
Later that day, you make your way to the hot springs nearby, running as fast as you can to the water’s edge after dropping your coats
It’s a rush to the senses, slipping into the hot spring and away from the frigid air
San is behind you, gripping your hand tightly
You find a ledge that’s been carved into the rock underwater, and make yourselves comfortable on it
San leans back, eyes closed, and you can see the puffs of his breath coming slower and slower as he fully relaxes
You lean back against his arm, enjoying the feeling of his skin and the soft water pooling around you
You end up throwing your legs over his thighs and curling into his side
His arm goes around your shoulders, and you feel every bit of worry leave your body
You’re heavy with relaxation, but you feel lighter than ever
That evening, you’re watching a movie and sipping spiked hot chocolate when a flash of green lights up the igloo
Gasping, you stand up to stare skywards, mouth open
San turns off the movie and moves next to you, taking your hand and squeezing it lightly
You watch the Northern Lights in silence as they ripple across the sky in vivid purples, blues, and greens
A few minutes into the show, you glance over at San to see his eyes glittering with all the colors
He looks so beautiful, holding entire galaxies, and he doesn’t even realize it
When the lights begin to fade down, you reach over and pull San to you
He knew what you wanted from the first millisecond of touch
He responds in kind, tugging you as close to him as he can and making quick work of both your shirts
Chests pressed together and breathing ragged, you let yourselves fall back onto the rug
Arms and legs tangle as you make love beneath the glass ceiling, and the auroras begin to flicker again, making everything that much more beautiful
Falling asleep in each others’ arms, not only for the warmth, but because you love him more than anything in the world
Mingi
Madagascar!
It’s a lesser known honeymoon destination, with fewer people than some of the more popular spots in Europe or the Caribbean
You have your own bungalow on the beach, with room service twice a day and spa services as well
Getting massages and face masks with Mingi? Yes. Doing so in matching fluffy white robes? Double yes.
Going on a safari adventure to see the lemurs!
You and Mingi pile into the backseat of an open-air Jeep and a driver takes you around one of the wildlife refuges
You two have the time of your lives looking at all the animals, grabbing each other and pointing when you see a new one
He’s smiling so big the entire time, and his happiness is contagious
You both sleep in late every day just because you can--no alarms, just birds twittering and sunlight filtering through the blinds
Waking up in each other’s arms, nestled under a layer of soft blankets
All you have to do is open your eyes, and Mingi is right there, sleeping soundly with the corners of his mouth turned up
His hair is tousled and he looks so peaceful
That is, until you try to get up to make breakfast, and he refuses to let you get out of bed
He doesn’t even wake up; just throws one arm around you and hugs you tight, humming in his sleep with a little pout on his lips
You can’t help but smile, and relent to his cute charm
An hour or so later, when both of you wake up, Mingi kisses you all over your face
It’s the best way to say “good morning” in his opinion, and you’re pretty sure he’s right
Another day, you do a guided hike through Amber Mountain National Park
There are even more lemurs, and many other animals
The air is so clean you can’t even believe it, and peace seeps into you with each step further into the lush, green wilderness
You stop to swim in an emerald pool at the foot of a small waterfall, and your guide steps away to give you a moment of privacy
You get close to Mingi, resting your hands on his shoulders and pressing your forehead to his
The water flows softly around you, but Mingi is your rock--steadfast and comfortable to you always
He kisses you sweetly, and you feel any tension he might have had leaving his body with each deep inhale
Your favorite moment from the trip, however, has to be your journey to the Avenue of the Baobabs
The Baobab trees have long been a legendary symbol of the African wilds, but seeing them up close in reality is its own level of breathtaking
Nothing could have prepared you for just how massive the Baobabs are, towering above the horizon as you approach in your tour Jeep
You’re dropped off at the beginning of the path that winds through hundreds of the giant trees, and told to meet back there in a couple of hours
Mingi pulls you down the trail excitedly, telling you that if he had to be a tree, he would be one of these
You snap your favorite photo ever that afternoon
It’s a picture of Mingi, grinning widely, hugging a Baobab (or trying to, since that particular tree had a diameter of about fifteen feet)
He looks so happy, almost childlike, and the joy just radiates off of him
That picture gets framed the second you return from your trip, and it’s also the lockscreen on your phone
Although your days are spent visiting every destination on the island, your evenings are a much-needed quiet time to recharge
You and Mingi snuggle up for a movie some nights, and other nights you drink on the porch and listen to the sounds of the jungle
Sometimes you get distracted from the movie or the scenery, and kiss Mingi a whole bunch instead
He’s more than willing to pull you close, and even carry you off, when you whisper something sinful in his ear
But no matter what you get up to, his love and sweetness are in every touch
Whether you’re out and about, or enjoying a quiet moment to yourselves, his arm is around you always, and you never have to ask twice for extra kisses
Wooyoung
A beach resort in Turks and Caicos seems like the perfect place to go with Wooyoung
Hear me out-- it’s got music and tourists that are just as loud as he is
Crystal clear, bright blue waters greet you as the two of you hitch a ride from the airport
All the windows in the cab are down, because it’s sunny and just the right kind of warm
Salty sea air fills your lungs and the wind breezes through your hair
You’re given complementary rum punch when you check in, and it’s the perfect start to your trip
You and Wooyoung drop your bags off at the room and immediately change into your swimsuits
The resort backs right up to the beach, so you run out in your sandals, hand in hand as you make a beeline toward the water
The sand is hot beneath your feet, but you don’t even notice because you’re so excited and the water! is so! blue!
You crash into the surf seconds later, the warm water swirling around your legs
You wade through the water until you’re chest deep, then kick up your feet and float on your back
There are no breakers, nor boats allowed, in the calm waters of the bay, so you float in the soft blue for a little bit, content to just let the tide wash you back to shore in whatever timeline it sees fit
You reach out at the line between sea and sky, meeting the skin of Wooyoung’s arm
He’s still standing, staring in wonder at the paradise around you, but he takes your hand without thinking
He’s your anchor, letting you float without drifting away
You spend the next several hours going back and forth between the sea and the sand, finding beach chairs to lounge on while you lay in the sun
As the sun starts to fall in the sky, you decide to head back to the room to shower off and get dressed for a fancy dinner
You’re minding your business, rinsing the shampoo out of your hair, when the bathroom door opens and Wooyoung pokes his face inside
“Mind if I join you?”
“Not at all. It’ll save water,” you respond, smiling
Woo sheds his swimshorts and joins you, slipping in as fast as he can to keep the steam inside the glass door of the shower
You massage shampoo into his hair, enjoying his little hums of appreciation
He rinses it out while you wash your body, and you stand behind him as he washes off too
His back is to you and you openly stare at the water running down his back
You feel heavy, relaxed, from spending all day in the sun, but there’s one thing that could make this afternoon even better
Once all the soap is off of him, you step forward and kiss the spot between his shoulder blades
Never a stranger to your unspoken wishes, Wooyoung leans his head back as you kiss your way up to his shoulder
When you can’t reach any more, he turns and kisses you, hard
He’s got one hand snaked around your waist and the other holding your face to his
Your arms are around his shoulders in a heartbeat, and he backs you against the tile
It’s cold, but the warm water is still running between your bodies, giving you shivers
Wooyoung breaks the kiss only to kneel in front of you, throwing your leg over his shoulder
He brings you to the edge with his mouth, then stands again, keeping your leg hitched over his hip
When he fucks you, you’re worried that people are going to see the scratches on his shoulders the next day at the beach
But eventually, you can’t be bothered to think about it, and you lose yourself in his touch instead
You come apart shortly after, chests heaving and skin pressed to wet skin
A little while later, you’re toasting one another over dinner
The restaurant offers many amazing local delicacies, and Wooyoung insists on hand-feeding you at least half of them throughout your trip
There’s live music every night at the resort’s restaurant & bar, and Wooyoung doesn’t think twice about pulling you with him to the dancefloor
You’re not overly confident in your dancing skills, but Woo pulls you close and shows you some simple steps as other couples join around you
After a couple of songs, you’re able to get into the groove of the funky music that the island loves so much
Wooyoung’s smile is all you need to know you’re moving the right way, and you dance to a few more songs before going back to the bar counter for more fruity drinks
The two of you continue to get tipsy, then walk to the beach and make out in the sand like a couple of teenagers
You’re both giggling between kisses, digging your toes into the sand, and existing purely in the moment
Everything is sweet, from the taste of pineapple on his tongue to the heady aroma of plumeria blooms in the trees
Every day is a beach day in this place. You’ve never had this much fun, splashing and playing in the water, laughing nonstop
One afternoon, Wooyoung is passed out on a beach chair under an umbrella, lulled to sleep by the day’s warmth and the sounds of the ocean
After taking a picture of him to giggle at later, you get an idea
The air is fragrant with the sweet smell of the thousands of flowering bushes that are planted throughout the resort’s grounds
Nobody would miss a few of those flowers, would they? If you were to, say, pluck some and decorate your husband with them?
You slip away from the chairs and your sleeping Woo to gather a few blooms from the nearest row of landscaping, returning with sweet-smelling handfuls of them
You giggle to yourself, putting the flowers all around Wooyoung’s head like a little halo of yellows, whites, and pinks
He doesn’t even notice them until he wakes up, gets back in the water, and sees a bunch of petals in the surf around him
You laugh and take photos of all of it
Being on a catamaran at sunset, sitting side by side with your head on his shoulder
The sky is painted in vivid oranges and reds, and Woo’s hand rests on your thigh, his breathing slow and even next to you
The wind is a bit cool on your wet skin, but the sun still delivers warmth, and you inhale the smell of saltwater on Wooyoung’s skin
He turns his face slightly to kiss the top of your head, and you smile knowing that his love for you comes without him even having to think about it
As the boat smoothly cuts through the water, you feel completely at peace
You’re exactly where you’re meant to be, and it’s hard to think about your life turning out any other way than this moment, with this man
Jongho
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Incredible local food, soccer matches, constant music, breathtaking city scenery--it’s a neotropical dream
First of all, Jongho is amazing to travel with
Being the eldest of his family, he’s well-prepared with a bag full of snacks, meds, toiletries, headphones, and neck pillows for both of you
He looks so cute on the flight, snuggled up in his complimentary blanket and neck pillow
He’s pouting in his sleep and you take several photos just because
When you get to the hotel room, he bravely offers to carry your luggage up the stairs for you
But he makes you wait at the bottom of the stairs so that he can come back and scoop you into his arms
Because he insists on carrying you bridal-style at every opportunity, starting with your arrival to the room
It’s a suite on the second floor, with its own balcony overlooking the main walkway below
You can look out over shops and restaurants and bars, all the nightlife in one place
You change out of your airport clothes, then venture out to grab some drinks and go shopping-- the boys had bullied Jongho into promising that he’d bring back gifts
The two of you are buzzing by the time night falls, but your feet are sore from walking and you’re exhausted from the flight
So you grab some food to-go from one of the restaurants and take it back to the room
You chow through dinner with the balcony doors open, allowing the music and chatter of the streets to carry in on the soft, warm breeze
Going into food comas immediately after eating, you and Jongho pass out on top of the covers, facing each other with hands clasped in the middle
You wake up to brilliant sunlight and Jongho’s arm thrown over you
He’s your life-size teddy bear, and you snuggle closer to him for warmth and comfort
When you both get up and around, you surprise Jongho with tickets to this year’s Superclasico-- only the biggest soccer match in Buenos Aires!
Jongho tries to play it cool, but you can tell he’s absolutely giddy at getting to attend a sports game while he’s here
He loves soccer, after all, and he can’t stop smiling the entire way to the stadium
He practically drags you by the hand to your seats, which are so close to the field that you can hear the footballers yelling to each other
Jongho doesn’t sit down a single time during the game, shouting excitedly in Korean even though he doesn’t know anything about these teams or who to root for
He’s just glad to be there, and it’s an absolutely fantastic match
On your short walk home, he’s got so much energy from being amped up by the game that he stops you on the sidewalk and tells you to get on his back
You blush profusely, but who are you to say no? Besides, you love seeing him be this carefree
The two of you stick out like a sore thumb in the streets of Argentina since you’re giggling like crazy and he’s singing to you in a language that definitely isn’t local
You indulge in some amazing street food before going back to the hotel and getting ready for the evening
He got tickets to a theater show, and it gives you an opportunity to get all dressed up
Your husband looks so handsome in his casual suit, and when you walk out in your dress, he’s holding roses
The show is wonderful, and you’re both part of the standing ovation it receives
You throw off your shoes when you get home, but there’s so much excitement outside that the night is hardly over
Standing on your balcony, listening to singing in the streets and bars below, with Jongho’s arms around you from behind
This man clearly did his research before coming here, because he actually knows some of the songs in Spanish and you bet your ass he serenades you as musicians pass by below
There are fireworks some nights for no apparent reason other than that the city exists to be a technicolor celebration of life
There is no better place to start this marriage, and no better person to be married to

~writing strike is over~
Summary: Fitz watches as he slowly loses Keefe, based off of this post.
warnings: internalized homophobia, swearing, general angst (and a rant that ties in heavily to current events) and caps (yelling)
~I still remember, before I brought her to the cities~
He was beautiful. Fitz had told a joke and now Keefe was laughing, and he was beautiful. Fitz wondered why his father had glared at the two men they had seen kissing at the Atlantis tea shop they had been visiting that evening. Kissing Keefe would have felt so. Right.
But he was only thirteen, so what did Fitz know?
~you and I together / you said we’d be forever, and I had hoped it was true~
“Another pair of crush cuffs,” Keefe said mockingly, but his smirk betrayed his words.
Fitz rolled his eyes. “I’m not gonna wear them anyway, I don’t like her.” He didn’t like any of the girls.
“Well why not?! I’m sure-” Keefe paused to read the cuff’s, “-Azula is a darling girl.”
“I couldn't care less. Girls are too... complicated. I’d much rather just hang out with someone I already know I like.”
Keefe flopped onto the bed beside him, “Like your best friend? Who got you all the ladies to begin with?” He turned over to his side and waggled his eyebrows at Fitz, who rolled his eyes in response.
“Girls break people’s hearts. They leave.” Fitz said. Not my heart, he thought.
“Well, I’ll never leave you, Roy. We’ll be forever besties.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
~ only if you knew, how much I liked you / but I watch your eyes as she / walks by ~
“So Foster was obviously not sleeping, like she always does, and I-”
Keefe was rambling about Sophie, and Fitz’s heart was breaking. It was breaking and it didn’t matter because he was gay and he could never have been with Keefe anyway, but why did Keefe have to love her? Why couldn’t he just stay with Fitz forever?
“-but I guess it didn’t matter because after that she looked at me with those doe eyes, and Princey? I think- I think I might be falling for her.”
~replacing me in your mind, smile brighter than the sun in the sky / she’s got you mesmerized, while I’m crying~
“Hey Keefe, do you want to hang out tonight? I got this super cool elixir from Dex, and I want to see how it turns out. It would be perfect for pranking your dad.” Fitz smiled hopefully. Sure, Keefe liked Sophie, but they were still friends, they could still-
“Sorry Roo, another time? Sophie and I, and Linh and Marella, are gonna go to Atlantis to check out this hair stylist. Sophie wants to see me in braids, and I don’t trust Biana with my lovely locks. I didn’t get this head of hair by trusting lesbians with it after all.” His eyes twinkled like they always did, and Fitz swallowed hard to ignore the twinge in his chest.
“No problem, Keefe. Another time.” His eyes prickled as the imparter went dark.
He wondered if Keefe remembered letting Fitz place a misshapen flower crown on his head after Fitz had painstakingly done small braids in his blonde hair. He wondered if he even cared.
~Why would you ever kiss me? / I’m not even half as pretty~
Fitz breathed in the sweet smell of Panakes flowers as he held Keefe’s hand, their fingers loosely linked.
“Hey, let’s dance.” Keefe tugged him to his feet, and Fitz dragged his gaze away from the stars.
“Why?” He asked, laughing, “We don’t even know how to.”
Keefe only grinned in response, so Fitz rolled his eyes and stood, placing his right hand on Keefe’s left shoulder and blushing when his breath hitched as Keefe placed his hand fully on Fitz’s waist. His ice-blue eyes twinkled and he smirked.
“I’ve got you, Roo.” He whispered, and Fitz let his heart race as Keefe pulled them close together, chests brushing, the side of his cheek brushing against Fitz’s ear.
And they danced, swaying gently back and forth, the only music the in-sync beating of their hearts.
Eventually Keefe drew back slightly, just enough to look Fitz in his teal eyes.
“May I...?” He whispered, breath feather-soft against Fitz’s lips. Keefe’s grip tightened on his hip as Fitz nodded, and he leaned in.
The brush of his lips was like a memory, and Fitz found himself closing his eyes as his heart burst into a thousand different colours of love and wistfulness and he felt complete and shattered at the same time-
He blinked as he woke up. A tear slid down the side of his face. He shut his eyes tight, trying recapture even the slightest moment from the dream, but it was gone.
~you gave her your artwork, its just pen and paper / but you like her better / (I wish I were Foster)~
“You’ve been pretty quiet lately, Wonderboy. What’s up?” Keefe lay on the floor, legs swinging as he sketched something. Fitz looked up from his book ‘Wuthering Heights’ (a human book that so far had been nothing but depressing) and sighed.
“I haven’t been sleeping well, and I don’t know why.” Half-truth, since he really hadn’t been sleeping well, but he knew exactly why. Just like he knew Keefe probably wouldn’t push it.
Or maybe he didn’t, because the next words out of Keefe’s mouth were, “Really? There seems to be more on your mind than just that, Roy.” He looked up from the paper and blew a strand of hair from his eyes.
Fitz closed his book. Convincing Keefe was going to be harder than he had assumed.
“I guess... I don’t know. I’m just...” FUCK FUCK FUCK, WHAT SHOULD HE SAY?!
“I’m worried about the future. I mean, how is being thrown into one of the biggest historical upheavals going to affect us? We’re just kids!! But we’re being expected to fight these people, and the adults around us don’t even help us the way we need them to?? Years from now, will it even be over? Why do WE have to be the ones to change the world?
“They don’t give us authority, but they burden us with responsibility. Do they honestly think it won’t affect us? The world is going to hell and we’re still expected to do good in school and keep our heads down like it isn’t OUR future that’s being shitted on. Like the people who have the power to do something aren’t sitting on their ASSES doing absolutely fucking NOTHING?!
“People can make as many fucking jokes about us being lazy, when in reality we’re fucking world weary at an age where we’re not even old enough to fucking DRINK.”
Damn, maybe he was better at covering the real reason for his sleep than he thought... At least this part wasn’t a lie.
“Fuck, Fitz. That’s heavy...” Keefe rolled over and sat up, “That’s what’s going on? Fuck, if I knew that I wouldn’t have teased you about it.”
He opened his mouth like he was going to say something else, but the words changed before they came out, “I kinda feel the same way. I just don’t know what to do about it, so I make jokes. It doesn’t always help, but at least I don’t have to face the fear that.... well, y’know.”
They sat that way for a long, silent stretch before Fitz cleared his throat.
“Whatcha, um- What are ya drawing?”
Keefe looked at Fitz’s eyes another long second before picking up the piece of paper and studying it. “It’s a drawing for Foster. It’s when we rode on Silveny to heal her abilities. I figured it’d be a good gift since I plan on... I mean, I’m gonna try to ask her out.”
Oh.
Fitz forced a smile, “It looks good, Keefe. She’ll love it.”
“You sure?” It was one of the only times Fitz had seen Keefe nervous, and for a moment Fitz was tempted to shout ‘NO, of COURSE not’ and jump across the room before tearing it to shreds, but then he was overcome by guilt and he nodded.
“I’m absolutely sure, Keefe,” He stated, voice thick, “Cognates, remember?”
Keefe took a deep breath, “Yeah, thanks Wonderboy.” He smiled and tucked the picture into his pocket.
Fitz turned back to his book, the tears in his eyes blurring the words into a mess.
~ Oohhh, Oooohhh, wish I were Foster~
She said yes. Of course she said yes. Keefe was perfect for her, and everyone could see it.
And Fitz was happy for them -they were his two best friends!- he just. Wished that it was Fitz that Keefe had been happy with. Wished that it was him that he had loved.

Hi!! I love your winx club rewrite I can’t get enough of it!! I did watch fate and I will admit I did like it but they could of done a little better with it!! I did however have a question for you so bloom is one of my favorite characters in the winx club but I love her backstory of where she came from and who her parents are and I was wonder in your own opinion in your rewrite how would you describe oritel and Marion when they where teenagers did they go to alfea and red fountain? And what made them fall I love with each over? Also I can’t wait for the next chapter!! Your doing amazing with the story!!
Gaaaaah thank you so much anon. I’m glad you’re enjoying the fic! And, while I personally thought it was a Hot Mess™️, I’m glad you got some enjoyment out of Fate, .
So Oritel and Miriam:
Miriam, I think would have gone to Alfea, which actually would have been really not the norm for a Princess of Sparx, who have historically attended school on their home planet.
But Miriam is like, look Alfea is the best, if you want me to go to school here, maybe they should work harder to be the best.
And Miriam’s mum, the Queen, likes when her kids push the boundaries and is like you know what, I respect the fuck out of you, you can go.
So Miriam fucks off to Magix for school for three years.
Oritel however I think would stay on Sparx.
He’s probably like the son of some lord or duke or some other noble family (frantically googles the feudal system) who run the land on the other side of Sparx, so he wasn’t around the castle a whole lot. He’s possibly even the second son or something so like even lower in the court hierarchy.
And Miriam’s aware of him I guess, but like aware only so much as she has to be because she’s a princess.
But anyway so they don’t interact a whole lot while they’re teenagers but when Miriam graduates and goes back to Sparx, Oritel is hanging out there for whatever reason, probs got sent there on some errand by his father or is brushing up on his court manners or whatever.
And everyone’s pushing Miriam to start thinking about picking a husband like all the other ladies of the court are doing while she’s like chill I’m only 18.
And Oritel doesn’t bother trying cause like he’s the second son of some low-ranking duke, he’s never gonna get picked by anyone.
And they both end up escaping to the guard’s training rooms a lot, because Oritel is a specialist and is always looking to brush up on his skills, while Miriam just fucking loves sword fighting.
So the first time Oritel sees her decimate like 5 guards with her sword he’s instantly in love.
It’s not so instantaneous for Miriam.
We all saw how much of an idiot Oritel can be in Magical Adventure and suffice to say Miriam is not impressed.
But she tolerates him because he’s not trying to get her to marry him every 5 seconds.
And they eventually grow closer, and Miriam admits that alright he’s not that bad, and eventually she starts sticking by him at big royal events because he’s one of the few people there she can tolerate (and she isn’t related to).
and then one day Oritel gives her a heart necklace and she’s just like tf bro, i thought we were cool, i thought we understood each other, you don’t hit on me, i let you hang out with me.
and he’s like oh, no, that’s not- look at what it can do.
and he shows her how when she touched the point of her sword to the pendant it shrinks her sword so it sits through the heart, and when she takes it out again it returns to it’s full size (google ‘sword in heart necklace’ if you need a visual).
and he needed some help with the magic because he’s a specialist and can’t do magic, but he came up with the idea and made the heart pendant himself, and basically came up with a way that she can have her sword with her all the time (even when she’s wearing a dress and her mother says it’s not proper to have a sword strapped to her).
and she just looks at him like .............. okay maybe you’re not as bad as i thought.
and the rest, as they say, is history.

Wait For It
AO3 Fanfiction.net
Inspired heavily by the song "Wait For It" by Leslie Odam Jr from Hamilton an American Musical.
Red Robin calls a meeting for the Justice League. Everyone is there except Red Robin. Instead one of the monitors flickers to life.
Brief mention of some past character deaths. Very mild violence.
The Justice League had gathered when Superman looked to Batman, “Red Robin called this meeting, since he isn’t here what's this about Batman?”
Before he could answer a screen flickered to life. The angle was strange and it took a few moments for them to realized that the camera was attached to a person.
The person wearing the camera appeared to be setting up a larger camera. A women's voice could be heard from off screen speaking in accented English.
“Are you sure this is a good plan Birdy?”
“I am just worried. What if Batman shows up to take you away?”
“Positive LB.” The voice of Red Robin answered.
There were a couple confused or shocked faces around but no one looked away.
“I have been gone over a month and no one has called or tried looking for me, I promise no one from the Justice League are going to interfere.”
Batman frowned, he was sure he had seen Just the other day. Had it really been a month.
Tim turned and they could see a women in red and spotted black spandex with a wide smile. “If he was too busy keeping Gotham in line to notice than he can keep Gotham, you're all mine Birdy.”
She came forward and the screen filled with red for a moment as she was too close to Tim for it to pick up images properly.
When she was fully in frame again had a look that she was heading to her death.
“This is the last fight LB, everything is set, we just need to wait for it.”
The women, LB, smiled nervously and spoke softly, “Si quelque chose m'arrive, sache que je t'aime.”
“Pareil ici LB. But nothing is going to happen, we planned this months ago. Now get in position, I will let you know when we are world wide.”
Batman was frowning harder at the screen. Tim had been in contact with this LB for months apparently. Did Alfred know?
He replaced the camera on his suit and started pressing keys rapidly, there wasn’t much for the league to see but when anyone tried to speak Wonder Women glared them down.
Red Robin appeared to sit down in a TV station’s control booth, but from what they could see an entire wall was missing. The camera moved suddenly and Red Robin's face came into view, his mask appeared slightly different than normal but it was clearly him.
“If any of the league interferes and ruins this plan then I will use any and all blackmail I have to ruin all of you. You are watching as witnesses only, don’t you dare forget it.”
Another monitor flickered to life. This one showed Paris, or what was left of Paris. Buildings were crumbling, the Eiffel Tower was on its side, dust filled the air and not a speck of movement could be seen. Then the camera changed to show the women in Red standing tall on a pile of rubble near the tower.
Batman was thankful, it meant he had time to think of the answers to questions he was sure they had.
“Okay LB, we are live in 3…2…1”
Someone let out a gasp, the women who had appeared okay before was now badly injured. One arm hung limp at her side, there was a long gash freely flowing from her shoulder, she was limping and a bruise was forming on one of her cheeks.
Yet she stood tall and proud as she addressed the camera in her accented English.
There was a gasp, though Batman couldn’t place it, he was too focused on the screen. How did no one notice this was happening? He had more questions then answers at this point.
“My name is Ladybug, I am one of Paris' heroes. Many that know of me will be able to tell you that I have been protecting Paris for ten years now with my partner Chat Noir. What many of you don’t know is that we were 13 when we were chosen. You don’t know that my father was a baker, my mother an amazing women that commanded respect with her very presence. They are both gone now, all I have is left is their legacy.” She gestures at the rubble with her good arm, “Thankfully they died in a fire so they never had to see me fail all of you so badly. There is some good news, the original villain, Hawkmoth, also died before this. The fire was devastating, it didn’t discriminate between the sinners and the innocent.”
Her look grew murderous, “But I live, like bread I rise. I refuse to break, even when all of my loved ones have died.”
The women, Ladybug, shifted painfully before smirking, “Despite all you have done and thrown at me I am still here. Try as you might you can not be me, I am I am inimitable, Paris's original hero.” She threw her good arm into the air, “Here I am Lila! My arm is broken, I can barely walk, so now is your chance coward! You have taken everything from me but my life and my pride. So here I stand, just as you asked.” She chuckled darkly, “I'm not even late. I am standing still, lying in wait. You take too long and blood loss will get to me long before you do Rossi.”
The camera changed to the wider view they saw at the beginning. Though now you could see the red that was Ladybug. You could also see a bright spot of purple making its way towards her through the rubble.
The camera switched to a third that was still zoomed out but now you could see that the person in purple moved like they knew they had won.
The villain began yelling in French. Thankfully Red Robin was typing out subtitles for the world with very little delay.
The members of the league were all tense, they didn’t like what they were seeing. Only a few were more relaxed, Red Robin had said there was a plan, surely he wouldn’t be idly sitting by if it was falling apart.
Ladybug laughed insanely drawing all attention back to the screen as she addressed the figure in purple.
“Is this what you wanted Lila? Countless dead, everything destroyed? All this, just to kill me because I asked you not to lie about me in front of a boy. So relentless.” The last part was barely audible.
“I worked hard to get this win. Paris is everything I deserve, it is my reward. All I need to do is take your earrings and then I can fix everything.”
“They won’t love you. Hawkmoth was bad, yes, but you raised the stakes. You chose to thrive off all this death and chaos.” Ladybug stood straighter with a wince and glared, “You, Lila Rossi, will never be a hero.”
The purple villain, Lila, finally stood before the weaponless and defeated Ladybug. The camera changed again so that everyone could now see what was happening with clarity.
“Now hand over your earrings and I may let you live.”
Red Robin was moving fast now, they could hear the grapple. Was this part of the plan or was everything falling apart enough that he was panicking and moving to save the women that loves him?
Ladybug laughed, “Is what you have left me with really living?”
“Fine, give me the earrings and I will kill you painlessly.”
When Ladybug didn’t move Lila backhanded her and sent her sprawling on the ground.
Batman was frowning at the monitor Something was odd.
“The earrings now!” Lila pulled a sword from what they thought was a cane, “Don’t make me take your ears too.”
“Cataclysm.” The pike of rubble they were standing on collapsed into dust at the exact moment a yoyo came and wrapped around Ladybug to prevent her from hitting the ground far below.
“Go ahead and try bitch.” Ladybug spat.
Batman’s eyes widened when he saw it, Ladybug wasn’t wearing any earrings.
Lila hit the ground hard and was pinned by some of the rocks that hadn’t dissolved. Two figures landed gracefully in front of her.
Ladybug no longer looked broken and bruised. Her black outfit was pristine and shone like scales in the sun as the light illuminated her. She had small cat ears and a more reptilian tail. Red Robin's outfit was similar to normal except it was subtlety spotted and he seemed to have gained a fox tail.
Through the main camera it looked like Lila was cowed but through Tim's camera they could see the raw hatred on the women's face.
“Congrats Lila.” Ladybug smiled, “They world now knows your name, just as you wanted.”
Red Robin approached and plucked a broach from her. A bright purple light engulfed her as she transformed into a regular women. “Enjoy your infamy in prison.”
“You think I am going to prison then you are delusional. I will be free in an hour.” The women spit as she slowly reached for something.
Ladybug kicked the downed women’s arm hard enough to break it. Tears in her eyes as she glared. “That was for unknowingly killing Chat Noir in one of your senseless fires. I should let the kwami curse you.”
Red Robin placed a hand on her shoulder and offered her the yoyo.
She shook her head and walked behind Lila as she started to take something out of a baton.
While they were focused on watching Ladybug they didn’t see what Red Robin had done but suddenly a white butterfly was taking off out if the yoyo. He threw it in the air, “Miraculous Ladybug.”
There was a light and magic swirled out from him. The Justice League watched in awe as buildings repaired themselves and people appeared uninjured in the streets.
Lila glared in shock as Ladybug zipped her arms together.
Red Robin laughed, “Did you really not notice us defeat your akuma?” he opened up the yoyo to briefly reveal a computer screen where he appeared to send something. “Police now have all the video evidence they need to keep you locked up for a long time Rossi.”
Ladybug used her baton while Red Robin used the yoyo as a grapple to land in front of the camera.
Batman tried to study the weapon. It had some sort of dimensional storage, a computer, and worked as a grapple. He refused to be jealous of his son.
Red Robin put his arm over Ladybug's shoulders as they smiled for the camera.
They spoke together, “We are proud to announce to the world that Paris is finally free of emotional terrorism. We thank you for bearing witness to this historical event.”
The livestream ended but Red Robin's camera was still going for the Justice League. He removed it and turned it so they were both in the shot.
Ladybug smiled, “Hello Justice League, I assume you are familiar with my partner.”
He laughed as he looked to her, “You assume they are intelligent, the costume change may throw them off too much.”
“On topic Renard Tacheté.”
“Right, sorry Arassas.” He turned back to the camera, the soft look evaporating to a harsher one. “Don’t know if you dense lot noticed, but Paris is under our protection. So no one from the league is allowed to operate here without our permission.”
Ladybug smiled not unkindly, “If you do find yourselves needing any help though all you have to do is ask.”
The video feed ended eruptly and left the Justice League staring at empty screens. After a moment of silence everyone started to yell questions or try to find answers on there own. Batman felt a headache coming on as he tried to answer questions he didn’t know the answer to.
During the chaos Diana smiled to herself and waved to Batman as she walked out. She didn’t need answers. After all, she was the one that had given Ladybug Tim's number.

Guiding the Way
Written for the Kidge Spring Event!
Prompt 5: Fern and Oak | Shelter and Strength
Years ago, @uraraaaaaaan mentioned wanting a Kidge Sentinel/Guide AU and I wrote down the idea, always intending to go back and write it. Finally, I have.
Summary: Sentinel/Guide AU. Pidge had long given up on meeting a Sentinel who would be strong enough to provide the balance she needed. It wasn't until her first day at the Galaxy Garrison that she began to see a glimmer of hope that maybe they were nearby.
Also posted on AO3 under the username Kishirokitsune
❀ - ❀ - ❀ - ❀ - ❀
The first time Pidge felt it was during her tour of the facilities of the Galaxy Garrison.
It began as a low ringing in her ears, a sensation that was immediately brushed off as nothing unusual. She automatically tightened her emotional control as a foreign feeling of loneliness and hopelessness began to creep over her, pushing it away so she wouldn't become overwhelmed. She looked around and watched as a few others in her tour group, as well as a few cadets who were roaming the halls, began to shift in unease, some of them rubbing their ears or gingerly massaging their temples, as though hoping a physical reaction would ward it off.
The ringing intensified with a single pulse that drowned out all other noise.
One minute Pidge was standing and the next she was on the ground, slumped against a wall with her head in her hands, struggling to breathe. There was a hand on her shoulder and, as her hearing returned, she could begin to make out someone coaching her through a breathing exercise.
“Sh-Shiro?” she gasped out.
Takashi Shirogane smiled softly at her. “I'm here, Katie. Don't speak right now: just breathe. You'll be okay.”
As she lifted her head to look around, Pidge saw that not everyone was affected by the sound. If she had to guess, around one out of twenty people were affected the same way she was. She waited until her breathing had mostly evened out before speaking again. “What was that?”
“A Sentinel suffering from Overload,” Shiro said, sounding apologetic. “Commander Holt never mentioned that you're a Guide.”
“It's not really important,” Pidge lied. She knew he was curious about why she chose to keep it such a secret, but she was much more curious in learning why a Sentinel who was suffering so badly was kept in a place like the Galaxy Garrison.
“So, who's this Sentinel you mentioned?” she asked.
“Keith,” spat out a nearby cadet with brown hair, who was being helped to his feet by a girl with short blonde hair.
Shiro stiffened. “Cadet Hawkins is--!”
“Well, they can't keep him hidden forever!” snapped the cadet, jerking his head to look in their direction. His face paled as he got a look at who he had yelled at. “Lieutenant Shirogane, I'm sorry! I didn't know it was you!”
Shiro ignored him and instead helped Pidge to her feet. “Officer Johnson, I'll be taking Cadet Holt from here. I'll be sure to return her to her dorm by curfew.”
The woman clutched her clipboard to her chest and pursed her lips together in a thin line, but in the end, she didn't voice her dislike of the breach in protocol and allowed Shiro to whisk Pidge away. She ordered the remaining new cadets to reform a line and continued with the tour.
Pidge trotted after Shiro and waited until they were a suitable distance away before beginning her questioning anew. “Are you going to tell me what's going on? Who's this 'Keith' guy anyway?”
Shiro ushered her into an unoccupied room before answering. “Keith is an exceptionally strong Sentinel. Strong enough that we've been unable to find a Guide who is capable of bonding with him. I... That is, myself and some of the other high officers thought it would help if we moved him away from the Garrison, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.”
Pidge's jaw dropped. “He's not even on the grounds? Just how wide is his range?”
“Immeasurable,” Shiro said with a grimace. “As you can tell, there are those who are unhappy with the way we've handled things, but they also believe that he's still within Garrison grounds. They cannot know how far away he is. There has already been talking of sending him to a... specialized facility to try and help him regain control.”
There was something about the tone Shiro used that made Pidge think that moving Keith to such a place would be the worst thing they could do. What kind of facility could help a Sentinel who was suffering from Overload, anyway? People had studied it for years and couldn't find an artificial way to prevent it or the Guide equivalent of Apathy.
“The only thing we can do is keep him as comfortable as possible and hope we find a Guide who is capable of bonding with him,” Shiro said.
Pidge remained silent as Shiro led her back out into the hall and picked up her tour where Officer Johnson had left off. All the while, she thought of the mysterious Keith and wondered if maybe, just maybe, he was the Sentinel she'd been searching for.
She came Online as a Guide at the age of 8 – much earlier than most and to the great confusion of her family, who had never considered preparing for such an event. It took years of talking to older guides, of being pulled out of school, of emotional outbursts, of failed attempts to find a Sentinel for her to bond with, and a very near-slip into Apathy before she was able to control her abilities enough to go out and be around crowds again.
As Sentinels and Guides were two sides of a single coin, so were Overload and Apathy.
For Sentinels, who were most well-known for their inhuman strength, excellent eyesight, and an enhanced sense of smell, Overload was the result of being overwhelmed by those physical senses in a way that was difficult to turn off without help.
For Guides, who were known for their sense of empathy (and who historically had been accused of reading minds because of the way they could sense emotions of those around them), Apathy was what happened when it all became too much. First came the maelstrom of emotions around them, followed by them overcompensating to try and regain control, which inevitably led to a full emotional shutdown.
Bonding was beneficial to both parties – and could be considered necessary for them to live long and healthy lives.
Because she came Online at such a young age, Pidge was an uncommonly strong Guide. She had to work harder than most to try and block out the emotions of those around her, as well as to keep her own under control. It also meant that she needed a Sentinel who was capable of providing the balance she needed.
“I want to meet him,” Pidge stated, interrupting Shiro in the middle of his description of the Gymnasium and the courses offered there. She stopped walked and gazed up at him, a stubborn glint in her eyes. “I want to meet Keith.”
Shiro hesitated for a moment and then nodded. “Tonight. After dinner.”
❀ - ❀ - ❀ - ❀ - ❀
Keith's morning began on a high note.
There was no bright sunlight streaming in from the windows where the heavy curtains couldn't quite cover. The temperature inside the house was just right – not too hot and not too cold. Better yet, his blankets and clothing didn't feel like sandpaper grating against his skin. He got up slowly, taking the time to enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasted.
It never lasted for long.
He knew that from experience.
He shuffled across the floor into the bathroom where he took care of his usual morning ablutions before heading into the kitchen to prepare a breakfast of plain oatmeal, which was typically bland enough that he wouldn't become overwhelmed. It was when he uncapped the milk to begin heating it up that things went wrong.
Keith gagged, immediately fighting the bile rising at the back of his throat. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the milk, which Shiro had bought the day before, but the smell of it was still too much. He managed to twist the cap back on and shoved the carton into the fridge (which was missing a lightbulb to avoid agitating his eyes) before he dropped to the floor as his Overload kicked in and made his senses go haywire.
Suddenly, everything was too much.
His head throbbed in agony and Keith clenched his teeth, trying in vain to hold on, but it was all too much and darkness soon rushed up to meet him.
Keith didn't know how much time had gone by when he woke again. The house was still dark and quiet, but all of him ached from passing out on the hard kitchen floor and it took him a few long minutes to slowly stretch and try to alleviate that pain before he felt well enough to stand up and try to cook again.
The oatmeal was as bland and tasteless as ever, especially when made with plain water – Keith didn't want to risk opening the milk again – but it was inoffensive enough that he could force it down and truthfully tell Shiro that he'd eaten something. There wasn't much else for Keith to do after that. His head hurt too badly to do anything productive, though he knew he should, at the very least, attempt to meditate again.
It was something Shiro was always getting on him for; his friend was convinced that meditation would be the thing to help him, but how could it when he couldn't concentrate long enough to do it? How could it when it only seemed to amplify his senses?
Keith laid down on top of his makeshift bed and stared at the dark ceiling.
Hours passed.
Keith slipped into a state somewhere between being awake and asleep and only jostled free by the agonizingly loud sound of the front door unlocking and then squeaking open. Out of habit, he kept his eyes closed to prevent being blinded by the rays of the setting sun and because of that, his only indication that Shiro wasn't alone was the sound of a second set of much lighter footsteps following along behind him.
“Who's with you?” Keith asked, his voice barely rising above a whisper.
He heard the door shut and only then dared to open his eyes, focusing immediately on the young woman wearing the familiar orange uniform of the Galaxy Garrison. He couldn't muster up the energy to ask again and turned his head away in dismissal.
“Keith, this is Pidge,” Shiro said softly. “She's a Guide.”
Keith couldn't bring himself to react to the news. He'd tried to bond with so many Guides over the past few years that he had given up on ever finding the right one. He was too tired to keep trying.
Someone shuffled closer and Keith could hear Shiro saying his name, but it was as though he was speaking from a great distance. Was that... bad? He couldn't fully bring himself to care. What did it matter? Nothing mattered. There was nothing that could help him. Nothing.
A hand. Light and gentle over his own. Warm. Pleasant.
A voice. Soothing and quiet. Refreshing, in a way.
Perfume. Subtle. Soft citrus and something earthy. Like the forest after a thunderstorm.
And in the back of his mind, a tendril of worry unfurled and prodded him until he opened his eyes and he found himself face-to-face with a girl – Pidge, wasn't it? – with golden eyes. He blinked and relief blossomed across her face, echoed by that tendril creeping deeper into his mind.
They weren't his emotions, Keith realized all at once.
A bond. Slow to form, but effortlessly strong once it took root. He could feel it there and instinctively knew that all he needed to do was reach out and accept it. He breathed in and then out, slow and steady, all the while maintaining eye contact. He twisted his hand in hers and gave it a gentle squeeze.
“Hello,” Keith said hoarsely.
A tiny laugh bubbled up from Pidge's throat as she smiled, and Keith could feel the pop of joy inside himself, bursting bright like sunshine. “Hi,” she responded, slightly breathless.
Shiro settled onto the floor next to Pidge and Keith tilted his head to look at his oldest friend, taking in the traces of deep concern across his face. He opened his mouth to speak, but couldn't think of anything to say except: “I ate this morning.”
“Oatmeal?” Shiro guessed with a grin.
Keith nearly groaned. He hadn't meant to say that out loud!
Shiro chuckled as he stood up. “Why don't you two stay put and I'll see what I can make for dinner. Once your bond starts to settle, you'll both need to eat.” He paused a moment, looking down at both of them with a soft expression, and then strode across the room into the kitchenette, where he began searching the cupboards for anything edible.
Keith turned his attention back to Pidge.
Back to his Guide.
And it was as she introduced herself that Keith got the first inkling that everything was going to be alright from that point on. The longer she was there, the more the pain he felt so intensely before was easing away. Things no longer sounded as loud. The room actually appeared dark to him. (Actually, it was a wonder that Shiro could actually see in the kitchen. He should probably tell him he could turn on a light.)
Yes. Things would be better.

Dreamwatch: NIGHTFLARE (Match 6)
Dreamfall Championship Match: Miguel Luis vs EIJI (Click here to watch!)
This match was fascinating even before it began, as EIJI is one of the higher profile Jr Heavyweight wrestlers on the roster (he had the SWA Jr Heavyweight title before this one was made) but you could argue that momentum isn't on his side. Overkill has been different as of late. They haven't been the vicious killers that they made themselves out to be on earlier shows, and their ability to gain momentum as of late has been middling. You could argue that Overkill is going downhill, whereas Miguel Luis and the rest of Vicio with their new allies from Stun Gun have been on a hot streak as of late, getting the most amount of attention on them with either stellar performances or dominating ones. its undeniable that Miguel Luis' group recently has left more of a mark on the shows. Miguel Luis has not had that big win in this environment though, but EIJI has. EIJI is the one that knows what it takes to succeed in this envrionment, and this may give him the cutting edge in this match. Either way, this match was going to be a good one!
And a good one it was! This match was fascinating and incredible in all of the right ways. Initially, EIJI took control of the match with his superior striking game, managing to wear down Luis with a series of kicks (and even a low blow) and hitting a muscle buster early in the match to give himself a pretty decisive lead. Luis was not one to give up, and was more than willing to fight back, though. Luis did his best to keep himself in the fight and did so with shocking effectiveness, landing big moves like a Miracle Ecstasy, Dragon Sleeper, Moonsaults. This culminated with a Go 2 Sleep followed by a Standing Moonsault that gave Luis an achingly close near-fall. He followed this up with another Go 2 Sleep and another Moonsault and this time he didn't get the pin because Mitsuru Takahashi distracted the referee! The last time we saw him he helped EIJI gain a win of Eikichi Kurusu, and his help here really helped get the match back into EIJI's favor when it seemed like he was going to lose it. This did not stop Luis, though, as the two fought it out, throwing everything at the wall, and Luis managed to get the upperhand again, almost pinning EIJI before Takahashi stopped the ref from counting a second time! From that point on, EIJI wrestled more control away, with the final bit of the match being mostly EIJI landing stiff strikes and brutal suplexes to make sure that Luis was 100% out of the match before getting the victory with his Air Raid Crash. A great match, a somewhat Heartbreaking match, but EIJI is the Dreamfall Champion.
After the match, EIJI asked for the microphone to deliver a message. He tells us that This was the crowning match for the first ever Dreamfall Champion, a Jr Heavyweight belt. EIJI is one of the most successful wrestlers on this roster, and has won a previous belt in this company. Despite this, this historic title match isn't anywhere near the main event. What kind of precedent is Dreamwatch setting for this belt? EIJI says the reason this happened is clear: This is a Jr Heavyweight belt, and Jr Heavyweights are devalued. Jr Heavyweights are a side attraction, but not face of the company material. EIJI is disgusted by this, and is tired of being considered the best in a division that matters less. Now that he has the Jr Heavyweight belt, as its champion, EIJI declares that he will dissolve the Jr Heavyweight division! This comes as a huge shock, with an audible gasp being heard throughout the Spike Dome. He will kill this division, and make the Dreamfall title into an Openweight belt. He cannot be contained to a minor league, his bloodied footprints will stand at the top of Dreamwatch because he IS! FUCKING! DREAMWATCH! EIJI throws the mic down, walking away with Mitsuru Takahashi.
In the back, EIJI says he doesn't have much more to say after what he said out there. He's serious about what he's said. He's tired of divisions. He's tired of picking people apart in the midcard. He wants to hunt the biggest game, and make himself the biggest target. But the first target he needs to take out is the label put on him. When asked about his opinion of Miguel Luis EIJI says that Luis is stubborn. Better than you think he is, but not actually as good as he thinks he is, and most importantly, not as good as EIJI is. When asked what he will say to the Jrs that want to keep the division around, EIJI says he doesn't care about the rest of them, they'll sink or swim. EIJI doesn't want to represent them. EIJI's ideals are the only ones that matter to him, and if anyone else wants to challenge that, they can step in the ring and get painted red. Mitsuru Takahashi chuckles at this. When asked about the assistance he got from Mitsuru Takahashi, EIJI said that all wrestlers receive assistance, whether it be a training partner, or a financial incentive to work harder, or the "energy of the fans" its all the same in the end. EIJI is tired of being interrogated, so he decides to leave before he gets fined for beating up reporters. He and Takahashi depart.
Miguel Luis makes his way to the back, sitting down with his head in his hands. He breathes heavily, saying that once again, he almost won an important match. That seems to be all he's good for at the moment, almost winning. He feels like more people are taking notice of him, which means he's probably doing the right thing, but losing hurts and it sucks and he lost a bit of the spotlight as a result tonight. When asked about EIJI saying that he wants to disband the division, Miguel responds by saying he wasn't paying attention to what EIJI said, really. Miguel feels like EIJI wants to disband the division because EIJI feels to much pressure fighting the other Jrs that EIJI can't actually beat without that old guy helping him. As for what he feels about it... He doesn't really know. He's used to weight classes in pro wrestling, so he doesn't see the big deal with having them. He's interrupted by the appearance of Sergio Perez who loudly exclaims that he knew Luis would lose. They get into some light-hearted bickering, with Luis saying that he only lost because he didn't have any back up like EIJI did, staring at Sergio Perez. Perez claims that he was tired after his match. He fought four people! Luis responds that Sergio didn't do that much work he just picked up the win over some loser in a shitty match. Sergio says at least he actually won his match, he expected that Luis would win easy! Luis ignores the back-handed compliment, and the two walk off, continuing their bickering as they exit.

Tanabata - Lukagami fic
My first Lukagami fic for the Lukagami July 2020 Day 7: Tanabata
I don’t really ship them but I think they are cute together.
Thanks to @livrever for check and corrections!
Ao3
___________________________________________
7th of July. Tanabata.
According to the legend, the only day of the year the lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi can see each other. A dramatic couple separated for a year until they can meet once again for one day only. And that’s, of course, reason enough for the Japanese people to throw a unique event as a celebration.
Writing wishes on long narrow colourful papers and hang them up on bamboo trees was one of the activities Kagami always looked forward to the most. Growing up with strict parents didn't give her much freedom or fun, but she was glad respecting traditions was one of her family's motto since she could enjoy every year the tanabata festival. And that was the most fun she would get each year: her favorite festival.
The last few years she was in France she had missed it, which made her a little sad - even if she still wrote her wish and hung it up next to her window every year, there was no festival, no fireworks, not the traditional Japanese event fun she loved.
But this year was different. She was in Japan again for Tanabata, and she was going to enjoy the fun of the festival at its fullest. Her whole set had been ready since the previous day to be used at the afternoon: yukata, obi (sash), geta (sandals), inner yukata, hair pin and accessories, cloth bag matching the yukata, money and her smartphone (to take photos). She was anxious for the time to pass faster so she could get ready and go enjoy the fun.
Every 5 minutes she kept checking for the time, even while she was practicing either kendo or archery.
"Kagami. What do you think you are doing? Take it seriously, don't keep disappointing me any farther. Focus" Tomoe Tsurugi was seated behind her daughter, supervising her training.
"Yes, mother" Kagami answered, but inside her heart she could only giggle in expectation for the festival.
"You need to focus and lose sight of all your distractions. Remember how your efficiency has decreased lately. That's why we came back to Japan in the first place. Don't waste all your efforts until now for some useless thoughts. Many people have high expectations of you. Don't let your sponsors down"
"Yes, mother" Kagami replied.
She knew her mother was right. She couldn't focus at all in anything she did. Her head had been somewhere else for a while. To be precise, since the day she figured out her love for a certain blue-haired musician. Who was also the same boy that had once been in love with her best friend (and maybe he still was). Luka snuck somehow inside Kagami's heart in a totally unexpected way - he scolded her for going under the rain without the proper equipment and lend her an umbrella. 'What a silly reason to fall in love with someone' she thought, denying her feelings at first, remembering how Marinette had told her how she fell in love with Adrien in a similar way. But the more time the Japanese lady spent with the guitarist, the clearer and stronger her love for him became.
Kagami didn't know what was so good about Luka Couffaine to make her fall in love with him. Kind-hearted, handsome, mature, responsible, talented, quiet… yes, great, but nothing she didn't have on her own. Then why? His patience, maybe? His rebellious looks? The way he cares for his loved ones? Even after 3 months, it still remained a mystery for Kagami. And she loved mysteries. Could it be it? Maybe. She wasn't sure. She was supposedly mysterious herself too.
What was for sure is she was in love with him and, after two months without seeing each other, she missed deeply their time together. Good thing she was going to meet with him again today. On Tanabata. Just like the lovers of the story, the two stars shining on the firmament across the Milky Way. And that made Kagami excitement over the sun, even if her expression remained impassible as always in front of her relatives, her heart was ecstatic.
Their meeting was set at 4pm. He had a concert last night for Jagged Stone’s tour - which her mother didn't let her attend, of course. So today was the only day they could meet. How can it get more romantic than that?
After having lunch, Kagami excused herself to get ready for the festival, hiding the fact she was also going on a date. Or at least she wished it was.
After brushing her teeth, she proceeded to get dressed. It usually takes a lot of time for newbies to put a yukata on, but Kagami was almost a professional when it came to wearing traditional Japanese clothing, and it took her only 5 minutes. After applying some light make-up, brushing her hair and decorating it with her hair accessories, her look for the festival was ready.
She looked glamorous, elegant and beautiful, and she was well aware of it. In front of the mirror, the girl kept posing and practicing how to smile for more than 40 minutes, waiting for the time to go to arrive and thinking of the activities she wanted to try out there -as well as the boy she was meeting in a matter of minutes.
Finally the time arrived and she took her leave.
The festival took place in a shopping district on a city nearby the Tsurugi's residential state. It was decorated with Tanabata themed garlands, flowers, paper lanterns and statues and, of course, decorated bamboo trees. The view was even prettier than the last time she had been there many years ago.
While she was waiting for Luka, Kagami took a paper guide for the event, checking the performances and the shops available, as well as their distribution. She was checking and confirming her plan and route to follow to make it perfectly on time to each one of the performances she was interested to attend.
She was so caught up in thinking she didn't notice someone standing in front of her. After looking the upper part of the guide, she could take a glance at a men's yukata in front of her. Too close for her liking.
"If you plan to try anything funny with me I'll make you regret it" she said, without looking up.
"Not my plan, but I wouldn't dare to, knowing your strength"
Kagami's eyes met Luka's in surprise. He was standing in front of her, pretty close, wearing a dark blue yukata that looked unbelievably good on him. Luka's soft smile reflected on Kagami's face, mimicking it without noticing. Her face was glowing.
"You came early" she said.
"So did you. You look beautiful" responded Luka.
"Thank you. You look great too. I didn't expect you to wear a yukata"
"Yeah, I noticed" he giggled at his own comment, stealing another smile from the Japanese lady. "How have you been?"
"I've been ok. The training got harder since now I take archery classes daily too, but I've been improving. But I miss Paris. And my friends. And you" Kagami looked genuinely lonely, but changed the subject fast enough to not be questioned about it. "How about you? How is the tour going?" She asked.
"Oh, it's amazing. Jagged Stone is really an international star. Wherever he goes gets the tickets sold out in a flash and the audience is totally committed to his performance. Being able to perform with Jagged in front of so many people is such a privilege. I'm very lucky"
"Why do you cut yourself low? I've watched some fancams of your most recent lives and I know you've been performing some of your songs during intermissions. I've seen how the crowd lost it every time. Some of the comments said they liked your performance the most too. You're a star. Be proud"
"Wow, you've been following my tour and performances? Thank you. It makes me very happy" he thanked her sincerely, slightly blushing for her words.
"Shall we go? There's a shamisen live performance in 5 minutes I really want to attend to. This way"
Kagami didn't even wait for Luka's response to start walking, making the boy run some steps to catch her.
"So… you've thought of a plan?" Luka asked her, trying not to lose sight of her.
"Leave it to me" she only said, never stopping walking.
______
Kagami's plan was perfectly timed. The 30 minutes between performances were used to eat and play typically festival food and games: takoyaki, yakisoba, kakigori, crepes, water yo-yo catching, goldfish catching (which sadly had been returned to the owner), cork guns, etc. They took lots of photos in the process -especially Luka took them with Kagami's phone because she wanted a photo of everything. Some selfies together were taken too, mostly from Kagami when Luka wasn't looking. Sometimes he had noticed and posed to the camera to take a front shot together, a wide grin on his face, matching Kagami's.
The activities and performances were very fun and interesting. It was a first for Luka, but the whole atmosphere and Kagami's silent excitement made it extremely enjoyable for him. He was having a lot of fun (way more than he expected). Spending time with a Kagami with such a bright smile on her face was new for him too, and he couldn't help it but be taken over by her enthusiasm.
As the time for fireworks was approaching, Kagami decided it was time to move to the wish writing area, where the bamboo trees were already filled with colorful papers. But just before reaching there, a sign in front of a shop picked Kagami's attention. She stood in front of it checking the prices and the products. Luka stood by her side staring at her and looking at the shop from time to time, unable to read anything of what was written or figure out what kind of products they had to offer. He waited until she decided step in, entering shop after her.
Luka and Kagami were amazed by the shop’s interior. There were many different sets for many different themes - from schools to historical setting, cafeterias, rock stages… even a tennis court setting was available. Luka wondered why Kagami decided to check this shop. But Kagami spoke before he could ask.
"It's a cosplay studio. You can rent a cosplay and take photos in the different settings for the amount of hours you pay for. I'll try to bribe them to let me take the cosplays outside to wear for a while before the fireworks start. Look at which one you want to wear meanwhile. There's a catalog with photos at that counter".
After Kagami's explanation, she started talking to the shop attendant and Luka followed her instructions, checking the costumes available.
The truth is Luka knew nothing about costumes or cosplay. Most of ones on the list were anime or videogames related, like a Pikachu cosplay or high school uniforms. Samurai costumes piqued his attention, but seemed hard to move in. He couldn't decide at all.
"Have you decided yet?" Asked Kagami.
"No, I'm really lost. I have no idea what to choose. Have you decided yet?" He asked
"Of course. I've always wanted to try one on, but it's difficult with my family's strictness. I'm taking this chance. Oh, and I'll decide yours. We can't afford to waste more time than needed. I need to write my wish before the fireworks start" she said, leaving again to speak with the attendant.
Luka was always amazed by Kagami's determination. 'I never hesitate'. That was her motto. One of the reasons he admired her, along with her talent in sports, her delicate manners, her honesty, her beauty, and her rare sincere smile that made him melt in softness. She gave him the calm he could only accomplish with meditation otherwise. A calm sometimes broken by his heart’s beats, every time he was blessed by her affection and curiosity looks for him in her eyes.
He liked her. He liked her very much. Probably even loved her. He realized how important Kagami was for him a few days before she returned to Japan. And it was still surprising for Luka to see how a girl so different from Marinette could captivate his heart in such explosive way: unexpectedly, accurately and fiercely as a storm.
She was the Furinkazan in all its phrases.
Fast as the wind
Silent as the forest
Raiding and plundering as the fire
Immobile as a mountain
The old strategy used to win battles during Japan’s Sengoku Era. A phrase capable to be used in many different fields- even love. Luka was sure it worked on him.
The Japanese girl was strong, stronger than him in all aspects, but that was partially a facade. She was actually fragile on the inside and Luka could tell how hurt she sometimes was by her loneliness every time he stared at the windows to her soul. He usually patted her head or squeezed her hand or her shoulder when he noticed the look and, with doing so, her face immediately regained her shy honest smile, looking genuinely happy. Luka loved that smile, and was more than flattered to be the one it was directed to.
While reorganizing his feelings for her, Luka waited for Kagami's return. And there she was, two minutes later some clothes on her hands.
"Here. Wear this. I'm sure it will look great on you" Kagami said, stretching her hand to give him some clothing.
"Ok" Luka grabbed the costume and scanned it. The clothes given by Kagami consisted in Japanese traditional-looking clothing, white with gold, blue and purple details. Something similar to a Temple apprentice, maybe? He didn't know much about Japanese traditional clothing, but it looked pretty.
"The boys changing room is there. Ask the male attendant if you need help. I'll be in that changing room. Wait for me if you finish earlier than me" said Kagami, while Luka nodded and she moved to enter the changing room with the female attendant.
_____
The clothes chosen by Kagami fitted Luka perfectly. Luka was surprised at how unexpectedly comfortable they were. According to the list, it seemed to be some figure skater cosplay. He knew he looked great on it when the female attendant let out a 'kya' and fangirled a little at him, making him giggle at her exaggerated reaction.
Three minutes later Kagami came out of the changing room. She was wearing a black and red female ninja costume that looked as if it had been made just for her. She looked amazing. Beautiful, yet stronger than ever. Damn, she even threatened to throw him a shuriken (ninja stars) if he didn't start moving out and stop wasting their time. He thought he wouldn't have minded being attacked by her. In truth, Kagami just wanted the boy to stop staring at her since it was becoming embarrassing.
______
As soon as they went out of the shop, they inevitably became the center of all the gazes. A young woman recognized Luka from yesterday's Jagged concert and started to fangirl over him along with her girl friends. Kagami tried to fight to protect Luka, but he dismissed her help and encouraged her to go write her wish instead.
Kagami's eyebrows frowned in anger but left to the bamboo wish writing stand alone. She could see Luka gazing at her from time to time while he gave signatures and selfies to his fans. Kagami couldn't hide her jealousy and anger and was tempted to write as her wish for all Luka's fans to disappear. But looking at him making his dreams come true, his bright smile and energy on his concerts… she knew he couldn't be a star without fans, so she discarded the idea.
When she looked at him in a lonely apologetic look, Luka winked at her, asking for her to wait a minute until the signatures and selfies were finished. She loved him even then, posing at the cameras with a grin on his face surrounded by fangirls. 'How silly' she thought.
Kagami decided to stop looking at him and started to write her wish on the paper -the one she had originally play to write. It was a good thing Luka was occupied, because she didn't want him to see what she had written. Moments after finishing, Luka came back to her.
"Sorry for that. Fans can get crazy sometimes" he apologized. "This outfit didn't help either. Blue hair and Japan's number one figure skater cosplay is a terrific combination to stay out of people's looks. It's obvious I would stand out..." Luka concluded.
"The price of fame. I understand. I'm getting some of those too, sometimes" she smiled reassuringly at him, making him relieved. "I'm happy your dreams are taking form, even if I have to go through that sometimes," she said, squeezing his hand a little while hiding her wish paper from him.
Luka squeezed back at her hand. "Thank you, Kagami. It makes me happy to hear that" said as he smiled.
A few long seconds passed with them still holding hands, eyes closed, Kagami's head on Luka's upper arm and Luka's head on Kagami's, her hair brushing his cheek.
Luka and Kagami never once hid their feelings for each other. They knew there was some kind of attraction and deep affection, but neither ever mentioned it. They just enjoyed each other's company, silently, and tried not to force anything. They liked what they had and didn't want it to change. They meant too much to each other and didn't want to lose it. Or at least they didn't before.
Kagami had changed her mind after these two months they were apart and had committed to the idea to confess her love to him after giving it some thought: she hated the idea of him getting snatched by Marinette or any other girl while she was away. And so, even if she didn't know if her feelings were reciprocated or otherwise, he still had feelings for her best friend, she decided she had to give it a try.
Kagami knew Luka's feelings for Marinette were strong, maybe impossible to ever erase completely, even. But she also knew he was the boy of the second chances, reason enough for her to take the gamble and see if he had one chance left for her, now that Paris superheroes were already retired.
And with this resolve, Kagami had written her wish down to a pink paper, in Japanese. It could be read as: 'Luka-kun no koibito ni naritai. Kagami', which translates as: 'I want to be Luka's lover (girlfriend). (Signed) Kagami'.
Kagami really wanted her wish to come true. And she would know if it could become reality or not in about an hour, around the time the fireworks ended and she had confessed her feelings. She hoped for the two lovers of the legend to make a miracle happen for her. That's why she wanted to tie here wish in the upper-most stem of the bamboo, the closest as possible to the stars and off of Luka's view.
Luka's voices interfered in Kagami's thoughts "Have you written your wish yet?" He smiled at her.
"Yes. It's written. But don't ask me to show you because I won't". She smirked a little.
"Is it that embarrassing? What did you wish for? World peace? To be rich and famous? I don't think you would wish for anything this cliche" he teased her.
"It's my wish and it stays a secret. Too bad your teasing won't work on me" she stuck her tongue at him, teasing back. "Why don't you write yours already?"
"You're right. I'll write one too." Luka grabbed one paper and pen from the table and got ready to write, but Kagami staring at the blank paper, expecting it to be filled, made him unable to move. "Stop looking. Aren't wishes supposed to be secret?"
"Oh, that's not it. They're not supposed to be secret. I just don't want mine to be seen" Kagami said.
"Oh, I see. Let me write it first then, without you peeking. I'll show it to you later. Go over there, meanwhile" he said.
"Ok. But do it fast! I want to read it!" Kagami moved some feet away and started looking up for the tallest bamboo branch.
"Yeah, yeah…"
Luka was giving his back to Kagami as the ink impregnated the paper with the words of his wish. "Done" he said after some minutes. When turning to look at Kagami she was looking up at the bamboo branches. "What are you looking at?"
"This one is the tallest branch. I want to tie my wish at the top of it" she explained.
"Why? And how? It's too tall even for me…" he wondered, looked at her short stature.
"I'll use your help. I'm using your body as a ladder to reach there. The tallest the wish, the most probable for it to come true. That’s only my assumption, anyway"
"That's what am I to you? A ladder? You can't set this on your own, you have to ask first" he scolded her.
"You're my friend. And you care about me. So I know you won't have any inconvenience to help and lift me up to tie the bamboo. Please?"
Luka sighed. "Fine… but remember the correct ordered next time. And be careful"
"Of course! You won't let me fall, I know" she smiles. "But first… let me see your wish!"
Kagami tried to snap Luka's wish paper, but he was fast enough to dodge her and lift up his hand at his maximum level. After some of Kagami's attempts to steal the paper from Luka, the musician stood on his toes to tie it the highest he could. Kagami was still short after the years, so she couldn't reach it.
"So unfair! You promised! Liar!"
"I'll show you if you can catch it. But let's tie up your wish first. Fireworks time is approaching and we still have to return our costumes" Luka's mature voice mentioned.
"Ok. It's that bamboo, the branch on the farthest left. Duck so I can climb over you" Like made a 'tch tch' sound while his index finger moved to right to left and to left to right in repeat, in negation, asking for a missing needed word. Kagami frowned her eyebrows in disgust and finally added said word. "Please..."
Pleased, Luka kneeled down to let Kagami sit on his shoulders and stood up. The girl was lighter than he thought. He secured her ankles with his hands and watched how she stretched her hands to tie the paper at the top of the tree. Luka wondered what her wish would be, but Kagami signaled him to get her down before any idea came to his mind.
As soon as Kagami's feet were back on the floor, she took the advantage of Luka being down to run and jump as high as she could to catch Luka's wish from the bamboo tree. She remembered perfectly the paper. It wasn't difficult for her to reach with the run impulse used to jump
She then turned her body to look at Luka, how was approaching walking towards her. "I've got it! Did you think you had won? Don't underestimate me" she grinned in victory, while Luka just smiled softly at her determination, unaffected from his wish being exposed soon. His reaction made the Japanese girl's curiosity increase, so she started reading the paper.
She was first surprised that the wish was written in Japanese with a messy handwriting, signed in capital letters of the roman alphabet. But the contains of the wish left her stunned, frozen at place, unable to move with her heartbeat intensifying every second. The contents were so unbelievable she re-read those letters one time after another, considering there could be a mistake due to Luka's unfamiliarity with her mother language. But nothing. The contents were perfectly written… .
"So, do you think my wish can become true?"
Luka was standing in front of Kagami, who had been with her head down reading until she had heard his voice. Her face then looked up. She wanted to see his expression. She wanted to see if he was serious or just joking. She needed to know if she should stop her uncontrollable smile to go wider and change it for tears instead. Kagami's face was lighting in love and hope while studying the boy in front of her.
And Luka's face told her everything she wanted to know: he meant every word written on that yellow paper.
"Yes. It can become true now or whenever you want" Kagami happily cried, jumping into Luka's welcoming arms.
"I'm glad…" said Luka, hugging Kagami tightly. "I love you, Kagami. Be my girlfriend?"
"Yes! I love you too. You've just made my wish come true too" she hugged even more tightly to him.
"Don't tell me…?" he asked, surprised.
"Yeah, I've written the same wish. Different words, but same meaning. I wanted to confess after the fireworks. Take a second chance from you. Now I think I can enjoy them at their fullest. I don't need the fright or nervousness to confess anymore"
"There's no way I would reject you, Kagami. You're gorgeous, strong, confident… and you like to lead, while I prefer to be lead. A perfect match, I believe. You mean the world to me"
"Shut up and kiss me"
Luka didn't say anything. He lowered his back and face meet his girlfriend's lips and seal a soft kiss on them. After they broke the kiss, Kagami hugged him again, covering her blushing face, Luka hugging her back.
"Let's return the costumes. The fireworks are starting soon and it seems I have a confession to listen to when they finish" giggled Luka.
"Don't get used to it. You know we Japanese people are very reserved. We expect love to be told with acts, not words" she warned him, seriously.
"I can do that" then he became thoughtful. "Wait. Music counts as an act, right? I'm screwed if it doesn't" he slightly panicked in joke.
"Rest assured, it does. But there's more to be done, so don't let your guard down" she giggled.
Luka took the chance to kiss her again. "I love your smile…" he said, while Kagami, red as ladybug's suit, locked his hand with hers and started walking towards the costume shop, pulling Luka. The musician couldn't stop his grin for forming on his face at her unusual embarrassed reaction.
After returning the costumes, the couple watched the fireworks together, hand in hand, colorful flowers and shapes forming up the sky. It was beautiful and they had the best possible company with them.
They didn't know where that new journey of love would take them, or when they would be able to me again after Tanabata. But they knew they had two lovers watching over them from the Milky Way - the same pair that allowed a miracle to happen during Kagami's favorite Tanabata festival.

Life systems of an Engagement Ring
Realizing what to search for before you set foot in a gems store will make it a lot simpler to leave with a ring she genuinely needs. Start by knowing the fundamental segments:
Focus stone: The middle stone ordinarily represents a mind greater part of the cost of the ring. The size, quality, lucidity and cut of the gemstone decide the ring's cost and worth.
Setting: Usually platinum or gold, the setting holds the stone/stones and gives the ring its one of a kind structure. The more tough the valuable metal, the better ensured your venture will be. That is the reason platinum is the perfect decision for shielding your jewel from every day wear and holding it safely set up.
Purchasing an Engagement Ring – the 4C's of Diamonds
The gemstone is the focal point of the ring, and the principal thing individuals notice. Eighty-three percent of all wedding bands have a jewel place stone, as per the Diamond Trading Company (DTC). Their status as the hardest gemstone makes them both valuable and exceptionally strong. Strength is basic in light of the fact that the wedding band will be worn each day, under an assortment of conditions.
The quality, worth and cost of a precious stone are dictated by "the 4Cs".
Cut. The slice of a precious stone alludes to the edges, shapes and extents of every jewel. A pleasantly cut precious stone with appropriate shapes and extents enhances the jewel's characteristic brilliance and brightness by reflecting and refracting light back through the highest point of a jewel.
Carat. The "carat" is a unit of estimation used to gauge precious stones. Albeit a higher carat weight may build its irregularity and worth, the cut, shading and clearness of the jewel enormously sway the cost. Little stones can be more costly than enormous stones if the other 3 C's, shading, cut and clearness, rate profoundly.
Shading. Precious stones are decided for their shading, or scarcity in that department. Much of the time, the more white the jewel, the more important. Along these lines setting a precious stone in a normally white metal is perfect for augmenting its splendor. The shade of a precious stone is arranged and appraised utilizing a shading scale, the most well known of which is from GIA, which continues in sequential order request from D to Z, with D meaning "vapid" and Z for close dull with slight traces of yellow or dark colored.
Clearness. A jewel's lucidity is appraised by the number, size and position of incorporations (or defects) it has. Considerations, which give every precious stone its uniqueness and are at times alluded to as "nature's fingerprints," are normally not unmistakable to the unaided eye except if amplified. The less the incorporations, the more significant the stone. Precious stones are characterized by their situation on the GIA Clarity Scale, from IF (inside perfect, no noticeable deformity) to I3 (defective, incorporations obvious to the unaided eye).
Precious stone Shapes
Precious stones come in six essential shapes, despite the fact that your gem specialist may convey asscher, brilliant or pad shapes.

Setting Matters
A wedding band and wedding rings are dependent upon steady wear. These rings will be presented to pressure, synthetics, knocks and blasts. Along these lines, picking a suffering metal that holds stones safely and secures your speculation is urgent.
Basically all popular gemstones, from the Star of Africa to the Hope Diamond, are ensured by platinum settings. Platinum, for instance, is one of the most strong and densest valuable metals.
—————-Irregularity
Platinum gems is multiple times more uncommon than gold. On the off chance that all the platinum at any point mined was softened and filled an Olympic-sized pool, it would scarcely arrive at your lower legs. Gold would fill three pools.
—————-
The Naturally White Metal Advantage
Regardless of what fine gemstone you pick as a middle diamond, shading is one of the essential determiners of the irregularity and hence the expense. Precious stones with practically no shading are normally generally attractive. Therefore, the ideal setting is a white metal that won't reflect shading into the stone. Platinum is a normally unadulterated white metal that will keep its splendid white shine. All gold is a normally yellow metal. White gold is blended in with different amalgams to make it look white, and after some time it will lose its more white shade and start to yellow. So as to keep up its white look, it might should be re-plated during its lifetime.
—————-
Unadulterated Platinum
Platinum is typically 90-95% unadulterated, which implies you are getting a greater amount of what you are paying for, instead of gold, which is commonly 58.5-75% unadulterated
Stamp
Markings on a ring that signify platinum will be Platinum, Plat or Pt, trailed by the degree of immaculateness, I.e. Pt 900 or Pt 950. 900 indicates 90% unadulterated platinum and 950 is 95% unadulterated platinum.

Character of the Ring
Setting plan and the state of the middle stone make the ring's one of a kind character. At last, singular taste concludes which will be directly for your fiancee. Be that as it may, to get you familiar and agreeable before you shop, here are styles you should know and the character profiles that by and large match them. Character profiles are sourced from Marie Claire and Allure magazines.

Tension: The stone is gripped by thousands of pounds of pressure and appears to hover in space. Personality profile: If she cherishes the unique, this bold look will be a favorite.
Side stone settings
Bar: Thin metal bars separate each stone but leave the sides open to bring in light. Personality profile: Appeals to the woman who appreciates the class and style of a bygone era.
Channel: Stones rest between two parallels of metal, highlighting both gems and the precious metal holding them. Personality profile: Subtle, balanced, for a woman who appreciates understated beauty.

Keep in mind, platinum settings offer the best insurance for the stone. Hence, many yellow gold rings highlight platinum prongs to secure and supplement the precious stone.
Which Finish
Notwithstanding jewel and setting nuts and bolts, there's another choice to be made — the completion.
Polished: A high shine surface.
Matte: A brushed finish that has a smooth, but less shiny, surface.
Satin: A brushed finished that is finer in texture than matte.
————————–
The Scratch Factor
Every valuable metal scratch. It's a characteristic piece of ordinary wear. Notwithstanding, one of the one of a kind characteristics of platinum is that when scratched, the metal is simply uprooted, never lost. Gold, then again, loses metal when scratched.
The Unique Look of Platinum Rings
Platinum is a normally white metal that will remain white everlastingly and never discolor. As it is worn after some time, platinum's surface becomes harder and increasingly impervious to wear. With wear, a delicate completion creates called patina, which speaks to the proprietor the historical backdrop of an actual existence very much lived. Be that as it may, in the event that you lean toward a gleaming completion, a diamond setter can clean your gems to bring back the first sparkle.

[ brittany snow, thirty-two, cisfemale, she/her ] ━ did y'all see [ juliette “jules” hammond ] walkin’ into [ frostford public library? ] they’ve lived in frostford for [ sixteen years, ] and you can catch ‘em around town working as a [ librarian/author ]. I reckon they’re pretty [ effervescent & charismatic ] but I hear they can also be kinda [ garrulous & uncoordinated. ] if ya see ‘em around, be sure to say hi. ━ [ teenage pregnancy? ]
hey hi hello i’m hope and i’m watching scooby doo rn. juliette’s intro is kind of long and i wasn’t sure if teenage pregnancy was technically a trigger or not so i just put it there just in case. jules’ intro is kind of long but ??? she’s my baby. there’s some wc at the bottom of the post but they’re p basic bc i’m trash™️
CHILDHOOD years --
juliette is the only daughter of marjorie and elias hammond. she was born in greenwich, connecticut and lived in a big mansion. juliette’s father is of old money and her mother is a former model turned socialite and housewife once juliette was born.
juliette was born on november 19th, 1986 which was during the first big snowstorm of the year. in fact, she was almost born in the car on the way to the hospital because of the snow.
marjorie and elias never planned to have more kids, so they were happy with juliette and spoiled her with everything she could have ever wanted.
in her childhood juliette spent a lot of time doing modeling ads for baby clothes. marjorie was very much a “pageant mom” for the first five years of her daughter’s life until elias convinced marjorie to let juliette pick her own passions.
juliette picked the arts and took piano and vocal lessons, when she got older she also learned other instruments such as the guitar, violin, and flute. but her favorite would always be piano.
she went to private school in greenwich, where she had to wear a uniform and the school was all grades.
juliette was one of the smartest in her school, and wound up skipping two grades in elementary school because she wasn’t being challenged enough.
during her early years there were many vacations that her parents would take her on and she often went into the city to visit her father at work or catch a broadway show with her mother.
her father worked long exhausting hours and her mother often filled her time with chairing certain social events and causes.
jules was often left alone after school in the care of their maid/nanny/chef winifried. winnie is the adult who gave juliette the nickname of jules first, and winnie was with her all her life until she turned thirteen and her parents decided they didn’t need a nanny anymore. winnie was also older at that point, so they hired someone new to help around the house for a couple of months until winnie retired.
juliette was always outgoing as a kid, loved talking to new people and making friends. she was the kind of kid who wanted to make sure everyone felt included. and she was popular, if not just for her parents money and connections, but also for her own charismatic and charming personality.
as a child she often entertained the idea of becoming a singer or somethin in the spotlight like her mom, but as the years went on it was harder and harder to hold onto a dream like that.
TEENAGE years --
juliette was never a rebellious type, as she was content with how her life was. sure, if she had things entirely her way she would have spent more time with her parents but otherwise juliette was a happy girl.
she was still in touch with her old nanny once winnie left the household, often writing her letters and calling the woman whenever she felt she needed someone to talk to.
in her early teen years juliette decided she wanted to go back into acting in commercials and such. this led to a couple of claire’s commercials and even a guest spot in a mary kate and ashley olsen film ( winning london, if you want to know ).
acting and singing were a big thing during her schooling. she was always involved in the drama department in some form if it wasn’t on stage it was backstage helping out.
she got to be good with a needle and thread, sewing a couple of mishaps in her high school productions to save money on sending them out.
juliette was in a couple of local competitions for singing, but never anything big. she did sing the national anthem at her high schools games though.
juliette was in a pretty serious relationship at the age of fifteen-sixteen with someone in her high school. they were two years older than her, since she had skipped a couple of grades, and she sincerely thought she was going to wind up marrying him after graduation.
except at the end of september juliette was going to her doctor for a check up when she found out she was pregnant. of course, her mother and father were shocked. and her then-boyfriend left juliette once he found out. juliette’s parents moved the teen into their apartment in the city with her father and she transferred to a different school for the rest of the year.
juliette gave birth to a baby girl on april 29th, 2002. her daughter, francesca winifred hammond was 7lbs and 4 ounces and 19 inches tall.
juliette had always known she was going to keep her daughter, but still holding her baby in her arms after she was born was a whole other experience and it really was like wow i’m a mother. she cried.
juliette wasn’t at her high school graduation, but if she had been she may have been the valedictorian. she still graduated in the top of her class.
originally, juliette had been planning on going to columbia for their english program.
but she decided instead to take a gap year and focus on being a mom.
during this time she worked at a bookstore and had begun writing her own stories.
she published her first book--a children’s “novel” just before her seventeenth birthday ( more like september of 2003 ). it’s dedicated to her daughter.
juliette soon realized that she wanted to move away from home. it was too much of a reminder of what she could have been doing and what her parents wanted for her, and what she had thought she wanted. she needed to find herself and figure out her life on her own.
so juliette quite literally picked up a map and got in the car she’d gotten for her sweet sixteen and started driving down the highway with her daughter.
of course, she’d told her parents beforehand. she’d had a whole sit down conversation about moving out and on her own. her parents were hesitant, since she was only seventeen at the time. but they eventually agreed so long as juliette stayed in touch with them. which she did.
she happened upon frostford when she got a flat tire just outside of city limits.
and frostford was everything that her hometown was not, so she wound up moving here at the age of seventeen, just before christmas time.
her parents obviously paid for the house she lives in still. it’s not like the mansion or even the city apartment she was used to when she was running around growing up but it has a porch and a yard and enough room for her and frannie, which was all jules wanted.
for the first couple of years i’d imagine it was hard for her to fit in. since she was seventeen and graduated high school prior, so most people her age were still in school. and i’m sure more of the town busybody gossips would have been talking about how she’s seventeen with a baby. so that wasn’t easy.
but even with that, juliette did her best to get to know people and figure out a place for herself among the town.
TWENTIES to NOW --
juliette had worked as a waitress for a couple of years while she was going to school. despite coming from money ( and having her parents send her money every month to help out ) juliette was always determined to both pay her parents back for the house they bought her and make her own money.
by the time frannie was in kindergarten jules was working at the diner during the day and going to college classes on her days off and taking some night classes.
juliette graduated from college with a degree in library sciences and english literature.
throughout frannie’s childhood, juliette worked on other books for kids. she wanted the types of books she had read when she was a kid but something that her own daughter would love. and frannie did love every book that juliette wrote.
for a good six or seven years ( from the time juliette was nineteen until she was twenty-five ) juliette was known mostly as one of the more prolific children’s authors under 30. she’d written well over 40 books since her first published children’s novel. many of the novels are following one single story/character, but each novel is part of a whole universe where characters from one side story do pop up in others as well.
juliette then graduated to young adult fiction, where she’s pretty much stayed since. she writes mainly mysteries and historical projects. she likes to balance her novels with a bit of different time periods. and yes, she does in fact know that joseph turner the main character of her first original novel appears as a side mentioned character in her latest work.
juliette has worked at the frostford public library since she graduated from college. she’s always loved to be around books.
like i said back then, she often loved to daydream of being someone in the limelight when she was growing up. you can still catch her singing a few tunes or hear the piano playing a melody from her house if she leaves the windows open, but otherwise she’s really given up on that part of her life.
spends a lot of time with her daughter. i imagine she’s had no contact with frannie’s father since everything that happened between them in high school.
sometimes she wonders what it would have been like to go for singing, but make no mistake that she is in fact blissfully happy with how her life turned out. she’s got her daughter, a blossoming career, and a happy home. maybe the only thing she sometimes really wishes for that’s realistic is somebody to share it with?
PERSONALITY AND MORE --
juliette is still as kind as ever. she’s very charismatic and effervescent. she doesn’t like to let anyone see her down ( even if she definitely has her moments of not being so well ).
you wouldn’t know if she’s down unless you know her well enough. but the signs are usually that she’s playing the piano a lot, she’s wearing a lot of loose fitting long sleeved things ( she likes to tug on the sleeves as a habit ), and her house smells like she’s been baking.
jules often calls frostford her home and refers to greenwich/manhattan as the place where she was raised.
juliette has a mix of a new york accent and a southern drawl from all the time she’s lived down south. it’s definitely not so pronounced. but when she’s angry ( which is rare, she’s not the type to raise her voice usually ) you can hear the northern accent come out.
she will never be found without a pen ( colored ink, usually purple ), a notebook, and a reading book. as she’s ready for any kind of situation or inspiration to strike her.
her favorite candies include milk duds and twizzlers, and she’s a sucker for a home made pie ( she can make a good apple pie and a nice lemon meringue herself ).
she absolutely loves when it rains, definitely the kind of person you’d find running out in the rain and dancing in it.
quite clumsy. she’s not a ballerina ( no matter how many lessons she had as a kid ) as her balance is always off.
she’s talkative as hell when she needs to be and can tend to ramble on if you don’t
is 100% a mom friend, is always there for her friends and anybody who she considers a friend.
loves scooby doo and nancy drew. kind of likes those simple mysteries that you could read over and over again. one of her favorite books of all time is that was then, this is now by s.e. hinton. also loves a northern light by jennifer donnely and the luxe series by anna godbersen.
POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS --
first friends in town
neighbors
“enemies” who became friends
frenemies
people who know her writing
co-workers
for some reason i cannot think of any more connections but these were p basic anyway?? so uh come and plot with me and we can figure stuff out lol.

Amy
“I’m going to kill him.”
If there was one thing Amy wasn’t good at, it was acting. She still tried to act surprised when Kamilah drove them to the Hamptons’ house and started to ask if she’d like to have it for their wedding party, or even permanently, but her ‘whoa’ wasn’t convincing enough.
“You didn’t like it,” Kamilah sighed in disappointment.
“No,” she fixed. “It’s just… I’ve been here before. With Lysimachus.”
After telling her fiancée about how she found out about the house and how her twin brother invaded it, Kamilah was extremely angry.
“Hey,” Amy went behind her, massaging her tense shoulders, “I loved it and this is what matters. Really, Kamilah. I could spend the rest of my life here with you.”
The female vampire’s expression finally softened. She was still disturbed, Amy knew. The whole drive was silent and while she was focused on the road, her eyes seemed distant. It shouldn’t be easy to face Gaius again after almost a century. After betraying him. Kamilah hadn’t told her details of the encounter, but she had a feeling, a intuition, that he had tortured her badly.
“So…” she tried to lighten her mood, “now we have this house all for us, which part should we try first? We have a nice bar, a giant swimming pool, four bedrooms…”
“A walk on the beach is fine for me,” Kamilah replied.
Amy agreed.
After minutes walking together on the shoreline, holding hands and feeling the waves crashing against their bare feet, they picked somewhere to sit. They contemplated the ocean in silence for a moment, before Amy pulled Kamilah for a kiss. A soft and gentle kiss. She still hadn’t felt her fiancée’s lips after coming home. After thinking she would never be able to cherish them again, because she almost died in Wright’s crazy ritual.
“I have something to tell you,” she spoke. “It’s about the historical fair.”
Kamilah stared at her for a second before rolling her eyes.
“If you say you’re going back to London, I…”
Amy couldn’t help laughing.
“I mean it, that teacher has a master’s degree in manipulation.”
“She had, indeed. She’s dead, Kamilah.”
“Oh.”
“She was lying the entire time about the fair. It was a trap to force me to join her cult.”
“I knew there was something wrong about her! She didn’t force you to do anything, did she? Because some of these cults can evoke some real dark forces.”
“Actually, I was the sacrifice to her goddess.”
“God, Amy… H-How did you…”
“I believe destiny really want us to get married. Lysimachus happened to be at the right place, in the right time. He saved my life.”
“I…” Kamilah didn’t know what to say. It shocked more than she already was. While she processed the information, Amy hugged her tightly, resting her head on her shoulder.
“I’m just so thankful I have another chance of being here with you.”
She didn’t told it yet. She just couldn’t find words to tell Kamilah she was the First Vampire’s descendant. The one that was supposed to bring her back to life. Did her feelings or their connection had anything to do with that? She wasn’t sure. Conflicted, she decided to keep the information for the right moment.
----------
Lysimachus
He was working on a project for Raines Corporation but his eyes wouldn’t leave the page lying on the table. That mysterious symbol, he could almost remember seeing it before, engraved somewhere. But he had been alive for 2064 years, it wouldn’t be an easy task to remember. He rested his back on the chair and let out a weary sigh.
Priya passed through his office door, grunting with her cell phone in hands.
“Bastards!”
“Do you ever do anything else other than complaining?”
“I’ve got trouble, Hunter. Trouble you wouldn’t understand.”
“Is it the gossip website again? I’m not hacking it another time to remove your… compromising pictures.”
“Those were fake! My features are way better than that and you know it. Anyways, that doesn’t come to the case…”
“What’s the matter?” He sighed and crossed his arms to hear, expecting it to not having any murder situation involved.
“You know, since I’ve been off the media lately, it has been raising a lot of questions. Now, my agent is forcing me to attend this party tonight.”
“Since when this is a problem to you?”
“I need a date and literally no one is available.”
She watched him in silence, expecting an answer. Lysimachus didn’t know what to say. It wasn’t like he could recommend her any celebrities or high society personalities to attend the party as her date. Then he realized…
“No. The answer is no.”
“I’ll pay you for it.”
“I don’t need money.”
“Then, what do you want?”
“Hmmm,” he was pensive for a moment, trying to figure out something Priya would never accept. “I accept under one condition.”
“Tell me your price.”
“You’ll be doing something nice for once.”
“Like…” she seemed puzzled, “donating money for charity? Adopting a stray puppy? That’s easy.”
“No,” Lysimachus protested. “I want you to do something spontaneous. You know, not because you’re being forced, but because you want to. Something that shows you actually have a heart.”
“Go to hell,” she whined, walking back to the living room. “I’ll find some random mortal on Bleeder.”
He followed. She was deeply focused between finishing the last adjustments for wedding dresses and the release her Spring collection. Priya was passionate about her career, that he couldn’t deny. It was possibly the only thing she truly loved.
“You’ve outdone yourself with these dresses, congratulations.”
“I know,” she grinned, proud of her creations. “Also, Kamilah is paying me handsomely for them.”
That was a good opportunity to try to explore her mind. Speaking of her work, she could reveal a little of who she truly was.
“You’re talented,” Lysimachus complimented. “It’s uhhh… been only fifteen years since you officially started your label?”
“That’s correct, but you know… being vampires, we always need to confuse the media, so I answer ten in most of my interviews.”
“And for how long have you been a fashion designer?”
She was silent for a brief moment, as she was reliving a memory. A small smile appeared in the corners of her mouth.
“Since I was born, I think.”
That was the answer Lysimachus wanted. Finally something honest, with feelings.
“Oh, how was it like back in India? Did women wear some sophisticated sari with your name written all over it?”
The smile faded away from her face.
“It’s none of your business, Hunter. Now listen, will you help me or not?”
As he advised her himself, “always find out your target’s weaknesses”. He had just found the right spot. He only needed to know how to access it.
“Okay, you win. I’m going with you to the party.”
----------
Kamilah
It had been almost ten minutes Kamilah had locked herself inside the restaurant’s toilet. She looked at her reflection in the mirror, her fangs were still exposed, as well as her red eyes.
To feed from that group of mortals, she had to let her instincts take control. She wouldn’t be able to do that consciously. Now, after ingesting such a large amount of blood, her thirst was out of control. While they were eating, she couldn’t focus on anything else but the beating hearts around her, their jugulars, the sound of the blood running inside their veins… including Amy’s. She looked at her fiancée and she desired her in a different mode. She wanted to please her, to make her scream her name and beg, beg for more… beg for her life, as her fangs sank into her neck and sucked until the last drop of blood.
Gaius was turning her into a monster again and she didn’t even notice. The hypnosis wasn’t needed, he was already inside her head.
“Kamilah?” She heard Amy’s voice coming from outside. “Is everything alright?”
Amy. Her Amy. Was she still capable of loving her the same way? What if she lost control? She could seriously injury her or worse.
“Open the door, please.”
She inhaled deeply, focusing her thoughts on something else. Ahmanet Financial. Nothing could make her forget about the world as her company. If she managed to control her hunger through the centuries, she could do it again.
When she opened the door, she was her recomposed self again.
“Sorry, I was fixing my make up,” she walked away before Amy could question.
Back to their house, she grabbed her laptop and pretended to be focused. She needed to avoid Amy as much as possible. At some point the girl would want to get intimate and it’d lead to a tragic outcome.
“What are you doing?” Amy placed herself next to her on the couch, with a bucket of popcorn. “You’ve been acting weird since lunch.”
“My apologies, Amy. I… I forgot these information I was supposed to have sent to my lawyers and I was afraid it was too late, but I’m working on it right now.”
“Anything I can help? I’m still your assistant.”
“Not really, it’s just very complicated.”
“Okay.”
The girl started to text Lily and as she was distracted, Kamilah could examine the pictures she took of Lysimachus’ book. She had absolutely no idea how to translate that.
“Lawyers, huh?” Unnoticed, Amy came back from the kitchen and stopped behind her. “This is the ritual Lysimachus and Lily have been studying. The one to kill Gaius.”
“Amy,” it was becoming harder to keep things from her fiancée. She always managed to find a way to figure out when she wasn’t well.
“Kamilah, it’s okay to share your concerns and feelings with me. I mean, we’re getting married. It shouldn’t be a problem anymore. Unless…”
The girl studied her face for a few seconds before raising her eyebrow.
“Unless you’re planning something stupid. You’re not planning to do this on your own, are you?”
She rolled her eyes, wondering if Amy was having those visions about her life again.
“Amy, speaking of a fight against Gaius, it’s clear not all of us are going to survive. People will die and I don’t want it to be Lysimachus… or you.”
“How many of you did he kill, back in the twenties, when you put him in the sarcophagus?” Amy sighed.
“None, but only because I intervened.”
“But you couldn’t have done it yourself! You only stabbed him because he was distracted fighting the others.”
Kamilah rolled her eyes again. It was hard to admit Amy was right.
“Why don’t we join them and help with their plan? Trust me, it’s the best we can do.”
Amy placed her hand on hers and she admitted defeat. Even though Priya was part of the plan, it was more reasonable and safe than fighting Gaius alone.
----------
Amy
Despite Amy’s best attempts, Kamilah was avoiding physical contact or any interaction that could lead to intimacy.
“Is there something wrong with me or…” she showed Lily her body and face through a video call.
Maybe Kamilah was too stressed to think about it, but then, for what purpose she brought her to stay in that house for a couple of days, if they weren’t supposed to spend time together?
“Uhh... maybe she’s attached to old traditions? I mean, save it for after the wedding?” Lily suggested.
Amy muffled a laugh.
“I don’t think that’s the case. Anyways I should go, I have a sexy vampire CEO to seduce. Bye.”
She walked to the living room, wearing a sexy nightdress she bought in London. One she knew Kamilah would be able to resist. She bit her lower lip playfully as she spotted the female vampire in the living room, where she was waiting for her to watch a movie.
"What is my gorgeous fiancée doing?" She asked to make her presence to be noticed.
"Amy," Kamilah said, before turning around to face her, "I swear this was the longest shower you've ever..."
She turned around and stopped, astonished by her special outfit.
"I was preparing you a little surprise. Did you like it?"
"I-It looks... nice."
"Really?" Amy rolled her eyes. "Nice is the best word you can use to describe it?"
"No, actually I can find multiple other adjectives to express how much I liked it."
"So," Amy wrapped her arms around her neck and whispered in her ear, "tell me."
“Amy,” Kamilah carefully pushed her away, “this may not be a good idea at the moment.”
Amy threw herself at the couch and sighed frustrated, wondering if after being distant for so long Kamilah had stopped desiring her.
“It has nothing to do with you,” the female vampire spoke. “It’s about me.”
“Gaius?” Amy asked, afraid to hear the answer.
Kamilah shook her head in denial.
“After ingesting such a large amount of blood my thirst is out of control.”
“Oh, so that’s the problem. I mean, you’ve controlled it before, you can control it again.”
“Does that make you relieved?” Kamilah frowned. “Amy, it turns me into a monster! At the same time I want you, I want to drink until the last drop of blood in your body.”
After thinking for a while, Amy found an easy solution. She brushed off her hair from her shoulder, exposing her neck.
“Do it,” she ordered. “Feed from me. You'll never know if you don't try it.”
“Did you hear what I just told you? I’m going to kill you.”
“You won’t. I know it.”
“Amy...”
“It’s in your head, Kamilah. You’re letting Gaius manipulate you again, can’t you see it? You’re not a monster. Please, let me prove this to you.”
She stood up again, approaching Kamilah and pressing her lips on the vampire’s. As she slipped her tongue inside Kamilah’s mouth, she stopped her.
“Then let’s get you a stake first. In case I don’t stop, you can...”
“Kamilah,” Amy silenced her with her index finger, “stop.”
She turned around, exposing her jugular again. Kamilah held her close, Amy could feel her heart racing inside her chest. She nervously traced her neck, finding the right spot to feed.
“Are you sure?” Kamilah asked.
“More than sure,” Amy placed her hand where hers was lying, on her belly.
Kamilah slowly sank her fangs into her jugular, drawing small sips of her blood. Amy could sense how insecure she was, as if she was holding back her thirst, her desire, everything... and the girl was determined to get more. She grabbed Kamilah’s hand, guiding it to her inner tights.
She moaned in pleasure as Kamilah started to give her exactly what she wanted, what made the vampire deepen the bite.
Amy never felt a similar pleasure in her life before. Kamilah’s fingers moving inside her, along with the pleasure from the bite. She felt like her entire body was on fire. Kamilah suddenly stopped.
“That’s enough, I’ve drank enough of your blood.”
“No,” Amy protested. “You usually take more than that.”
“I feel I’m slipping out of my control.”
“You’re not. I promise you.”
“In this case,” Kamilah looked at her and a devilish grin appeared on her face.
Using her vampire special skills, she ripped off Amy’s nightdress.
“I thought you had liked it,” Amy complained.
“I thought you were used to my ways of showing it.”
Kamilah’s mouth was suddenly on hers, kissing her hungrily, fiercely... then she moved down to Amy’s neck, tracing her jugular with her tongue.
“Hmmm, I’ve had enough of this,” she sank down to her knees, leaving Amy with a confused look on her face.
She softly pressed her fangs against Amy’s inner tights, leaving a small, shallow cut. The swipe of her tongue, cleaning the blood over the mark, made Amy’s entire blood tremble. She closed her eyes, enjoying the sensation of ecstasy as Kamilah bit her a little harder, drawing some more blood.
Amy was about to reach climax when the female vampire stopped, healing the bite with her fingertips.
“Why did you... oh!” Amy had no time to finish her question, Kamilah moved her mouth to her most sensitive spot of her body, sending her into bliss.
After she finished, Amy’s legs were weak and her mind a little lightheaded and foggy.
“Now you know how much I liked it.”
Between pants, the girl let out a smile.
-----------
Kamilah
It was late night and Kamilah couldn’t force herself to sleep. Though she was relieved to know her thirst was remained under control, she was lying still, staring at the ceiling. She wondered if she and the others would even survive the next few weeks. Or days. Gaius was planning something big and, unless she was able to earn his trust again, she wouldn’t be part of it this time. The sound of her cell phone vibrating on the nightstand made her body stiffen even more. It was Harvey.
After going to the balcony, she finally answered.
“What do you want?” She asked. “I’m in the middle of something.”
“Recruiting new members, I hope,” the voice on the other side replied. "The King isn't pleased after what your stupid brother did."
"I haven't spoke to my brother in days. I have no idea of what he's doing."
"After you gave him ownership over your clan, he sent all of the members to different parts of the country, looking for our King."
Kamilah smirked. Her twin brother hadn't lost his skills over the century. Behind this act, he should be trying to make it difficult for Gaius to get new servants.
"I mean it, Kamilah. You better find some new members to our army, he's furious at you."
The last words made Kamilah's heart pound, but she couldn't show it.
"I'll see what I can do," she lied. "Just give me some time."
"We have no time. He wants to see you, in three days."
Three days. Gaius demanded to see her urgently. If he was furious, he'd probably punish her. If only she was able to finish him before that... As anger took control of her body, she was ready to throw her cell phone away, when a loud, frightened scream came from inside the bedroom.
"Amy," she shouted.
In less than a second she was back to her fiancée's side. The girl was sitting on the bed, her skin was pale and her eyes were wide in fear.
"You scared me, what's wrong?"
"I-I..." she took a moment before being able to say anything. "The visions, Kamilah. I saw her... Keaseth."
"Who?!"
"The First Vampire. Her name is Keaseth."
Kamilah sat by her side in bed, wrapping an arm around her shoulders in a assuring manner.
"Amy, she's only a myth. We're not even sure she really existed."
"She exists, Kamilah!" Amy raised her voice. "Asleep, inside a coffin in some underground temple in London. To wake her up, I must offer my life in sacrifice because I'm her descendant. The one she assigned the mission."
The girl buried her face in Kamilah's chest and started to sob.
"S-She's calling for me... but I can't... I can't..."
"This is insanity. Whatever that teacher has tormented your mind with isn't true, Amy! She was a psycho that created a baseless theory. This isn't true!"
"Lysimachus has the manuscripts. It's real, Kamilah. Everything is there, Keaseth instructions, a genealogy map that leads to me... It's true. I can ask him to show you."
Kamilah got up from the bed and started pacing around the room. It couldn’t be true. That teacher should’ve invented it all to lure Amy into her own interests. But somehow it explained Amy’s visions. How she could, somehow, have access to hers, Lysimachus and Adrian's past.
“This isn’t why I love you,” Amy tried to explain between tears. “In the beginning I was confused. I thought I only felt attracted to you because I’m related to The Frist Vampire, but it’s not...”
“Amy...” Kamilah gave her a comforting hug. “This thought never crossed my mind. I... The only thing I fear is for your life. If you’re really her descendant it makes your blood powerful, special. A lot of vampires could try to use it in their advantage. But... I’ll protect you.”
Amy finally opened a smile and hugged her back.
“Amy, as you know, under the current circumstances it’s impossible for us to have a moment of pure joy and peace, so... we have to go. Gaius is requesting to see me and we need to discuss our plan.”
“Kamilah, oh my god. Y-You don’t have to go. We'll find another way.”
“Yes, I do. While we can’t figure out a way to kill him, I can’t blow up my cover.”
“Actually...” Amy jumped out of the bed, looking for her phone.
“What are you doing?” Kamilah was confused.
“I’m calling Lysimachus, I just remembered where I saw the last symbol.”
-----------
Lysimachus
“Boring,” Priya lamented. “Everything suddenly started to feel boring and I don’t know why! Maybe I’m getting old, like Kamilah.”
“No,” Lysimachus added. “You’re absolutely right. That party was one of the most boring events I ever attended. I'm glad we left."
He still couldn’t believe how far he had went on his plan to find out about Priya’s past. He could have gone to the Shadow Den to help Lily or hang out with Jax. For what purpose he was trying to know her better? She would never change. She only agreed to be part of the plan because of her own interests: protection, power and strength. If Gaius offered her an opportunity to obtain more power, she’d surely accept.
“We aren’t even friends…” Lysimachus though, “or are we?”
As Priya would always say, they were friends with benefits, without the friends part. Only the benefits.
“Than, let's have fun!” She complained, splashing him some water. "We didn't come here to chat."
“Okay..."
They were both in the swimming pool at Priya's house, with a few bottles of vodka he stole at the event's bar. All he had to do was to find a way to make her talk.
"We could play a game," he suggested. "Truth or Dare?"
"Come on, Hunter. This is so last century! Though it could be fun if only picked 'dare'."
Her hand softly stroke his naked chest, when she suddenly stopped.
"I'm not sure I'm in the mood for this either."
Lysimachus observed confused as she left the swimming pool and wrapped a towel around her body.
"Priya, what's wrong? Did I do something wrong?"
"Why do you assume it's about you?" Her face turned into a frown.
"I'm not assuming anything! You've been acting weird since this morning."
"You assume a lot of things."
He detected a hint of sadness in her voice.
“What are you talking about?”
“Stop playing dumb, Hunter. I saw you creeping on my bedroom. You don’t think I’m worthy your trust.”
“Priya, this is not...”
“I’m done with you.”
For the first time since they met, he could tell she was somehow hurt.
“I’m sorry, I just wanted to know more about you, about your past.”
His words made her turn around and face him again.
“Why?” She clenched her fists in anger. “Why was that supposed to matter? Why would you like to know about... that!”
Carefully, he took her hands in his and noticed she was shaking.
“Sometimes it’s easier if you just let it go. I mean, look at me. Everything I did, everything I built my entire life... it was a lie. My sister was so alive as I was.”
She walked away from him, sitting by the pool’s edge, where she started to play with the water using her hands. After a few minutes in silence she finally spoke.
“Life wasn’t always a piece of cake for me, Hunter. Back in India, I belonged to the people they call ‘the untouchable’, ‘the impure’. We lived like rats! In a secluded and small rural property, where my parents did the most degrading work to feed me and my four siblings.”
During his travels to India, Lysimachus heard about that group of people. Excluded from the caste system, they lived under inhumane rules.
“I was the youngest child and the only one to not accept that life,” Priya continued. “As a little girl, I started to collect pieces of fabric that were discarded and sew them together to make myself beautiful clothes. Clothes I’d never be allowed to have.”
She approached him again, taking a sip from her bottle to prepare for what she was going to tell next.
“When my father died, my mother fell seriously ill. We needed to bring home some money, but I’d never submit myself to dirty work, such as working with garbage and dejects. So, I went even dirtier.”
"Priya, oh my god...” Lysimachus ran his hand through his hair, not knowing exactly what to say upon that information.
“What do you think upper caste women did when they found out their husbands were sleeping with an ‘untouchable’? One night, they set my family’s house on fire. I wasn’t home, so I was the only one to survive.”
“It’s enough,” he told, squeezing her hand, but she was fixated in the memories. Memories she probably suppressed for over a century. Some tears started to run across her cheeks.
“With the money I had I fled to France, seeking for a better life. I was naive, Hunter. Too naive. Soon, I was back to my old habits. Until the day this rich guy I was dating got fed up of my expensive taste. He called a little friend of his and the two of them attempted to get rid of me, not before having fun one last time, of course.”
“Priya…"
"I was weak, almost dead, when somebody came to my rescue,” she didn’t let him speak. “A thirsty, disgusting vampire. I attempted to scream while he fed from what was left of me. After drinking my whole blood, he thought I was too young and pretty to die, so he Turned me.”
“You don’t even know who’s your maker.”
“No, I was on my own. Until a woman saved me. She owned a brothel. She let me stay there, where I was allowed to feed from her and her girls. In trade, I’d create clothes for their night shows and protect them from the nasty clients. That was my favorite part. Anyways, when she died, some of the girls wanted to come to America, where they hoped they’d find what they were searching for, so I came too.”
“And did you find it? What you were looking for?”
“More than that,” she finally opened a mischievous grin, “he gave me what I needed.”
“Who?”
“No one,” she finished her bottle and wiped the last few tears from her face. “He’s gone now. It doesn’t matter.”
Lysimachus stood up and involved her in a protective embrace. Everything suddenly made sense, her houseboys, the way she treated mortals… she was taking revenge for how she was treated in the past. Being used, abused, broken.
"You don't have to do this," he stroked her soft hair. "You're hiding behind this character you created to mask your pain. I know what I'm saying, this is exactly what I did being a Vampire Hunter."
“No, you have no idea of what you're saying,” she angered. “I shouldn’t have told you any of this! Now you know my weaknesses, you’re going to use it against me!”
“Priya,” Lysimachus held her still, looking into her eyes. “God, I would never use it against you. You can trust me, I promise.”
“But… now you know, it changes everything. You better keep a distance.”
“What if I don’t want to?”
For a moment, she seemed open, vulnerable. Their lips were almost touching when Priya took a step back.
“I need to stay alone for a while.”
Respecting her wish, Lysimachus went to the Shadow Den and left her alone in his apartment. Lily had important news to tell him.
“Amy told me she remembers seeing the mysterious symbol at Wright’s office and temple.”
“So that was where I saw it too.”
“Anyways, after studying it for hours I came to a conclusion,” Lily seemed worried somehow. “It’s a junction of other symbols: this one for ritual, the one for blood or descendant and this one... means sacrifice.”
“A-Are you telling me…”
“In order to kill what the First Vampire created, you must execute the ritual and offer her descendant as sacrifice.”
“You mean…”
“To kill Gaius, we must kill Amy too."
Next: When a meeting with Gaius goes wrong, somebody will be facing a tragic outcome. Stay tuned!

Chapter 11: A Home Visit
I never realise how much I like being home unless I’ve been somewhere really different for a while. Juno MacGuff, Juno
As they drove out of the Glasgow suburbs and into the countryside, the clouds lifted and the sun shone out of a perfectly blue sky. They had not spoken much since Jamie picked Claire up and dumped her overnight bag in the back of the car next to his rucksack, walking boots and walking poles. Somehow, the silence between them wasn’t awkward. It seemed calm and peaceful, as though they had no need to fill it with meaningless chatter. As Claire’s hand rested on Jamie’s thigh, she turned to gaze at him, admiring his chiselled profile, high cheekbones and full lips. She thrilled at the thought that he was hers and happy to be so.
Jamie briefly turned his head to Claire as her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
“What ye staring fer, Sassenach? Have I got food on ma face?”
“No, sorry. I was just wondering, can we have the roof down?”
Jamie smiled and pressed a button. As the roof retracted, swirls of wind invaded the car, whipping Claire’s hair into a Medusa-like tangle of curls.
“I hadn't really thought this through!” Claire shouted, pulling the hair from her mouth.
“What?” Jamie yelled back as he pushed the car faster.
Eventually, the car began to slow as Jamie pulled into a picnic area at the side of the road. He laughed as Claire frantically ran her fingers through her hair, wincing as she pulled at the tangled mass. He leaned over and kissed the top of her head before climbing out of the car.
“Look at this, Sassenach, just look around ye. Have ye ever seen anywhere more beautiful? On my way hame, I always stop here. Just tae take in the scene. The peaks, the waterfalls, everything. Doesna matter what the weather is… sunny and the colours sae bright, or grey wi’ great dramatic clouds. It doesna matter. Ye must have been here afore, aye?”
Claire moved around to join Jamie.
“Oh yes, quite a few times… Frank’s area of expertise at the university was the various Jacobite risings, so he’d come up here to Glencoe many times...”
She turned to face him, noticing the unconscious look of distaste that passed over his face at the mention of Frank’s name. “But we never really stopped to look around. Frank was not an outdoor kind of guy.”
Jamie headed back to the car. “Come on then. I want tae get ye hame tae Lallybroch.”
With the roof of the car firmly in place (“I am not turning up to meet your father looking like something the cat dragged in, James Fraser!”), the drive to Lallybroch continued. Up through Fort William and Fort Augustus to the lower reaches of Loch Ness, then alongside the Loch to the instantly recognisable sight of Urquhart Castle, where Jamie veered from the main road to a series of smaller roads.
Claire had visited Fort William and Fort Augustus in the past, had even gone as far north as Inverness and Culloden, but those journeys had inevitably been accompanied by details of the quashing of Highland uprisings, English army manoeuvres and a way of life condensed into a series of bloody statistics. All delivered with Frank’s characteristically detached manner. This journey was very different. Jamie recounted a stream of stories about the areas they passed through. Some true historical events, some fanciful myths, their origins lost in time, but all delivered with the passion and pride of the Highlander with an accent becoming more pronounced the further north they travelled.
“Tell me about Lallybroch.” Claire prompted as Jamie finished his tale of kelpies.
“Och, weel, the family ha’ lived there for nigh on three hundred years. Da still lives there, wi’ Murtagh, who’s a cousin and looks after the production side of the distillery. Since Mam died, and Jenny and I moved tae Glasgow, the hoose is tae big fer them, but they willna move. There’s always been Frasers at Lallybroch, he says, and he willna be the last. No’ even the English redcoats could force the Frasers tae leave. Ye can still see the marks of the English swords in the door frames … always there tae remember.”
“Oh dear, will I be welcome do you think? Or should I practice my Scottish accent?”
“Dinna mock,” Jamie chided gently. “‘Twas a long time ago. Besides...”
His lips made a lopsided smile as he reached out and squeezed her knee reassuringly.
“Ye may be a sassenach, but ye’re my sassenach and ye’ll always be welcome in our hame.”
Eventually, they pulled off the road and onto a short drive and Claire caught her first glimpse of Lallybroch. While not huge, it was certainly much larger than the average family home, spread over three floors with, Claire was sure, attics and cellars in addition. An imposing grey stone house, designed for function rather than beauty, built to withstand the fiercest of Scottish weather and hostile visitors. And it was home for Jamie. Claire had never had that attachment to one place. The flats and houses that she had shared with her uncle had all been nice, but they had always moved to the next without a pang of regret or sorrow.
Jamie lifted their bags out of the car and walked round to a door at the side of the house. Claire followed him through a small hallway filled with wellies, walking boots, waterproof jackets and umbrellas into a large square kitchen dominated by a huge wooden kitchen table. Jamie dropped the bags and headed for the tall American-style fridge. “Ah, Mrs Crook has left us a wee snack. It’ll be a fair while till dinner and we havena had lunch. So, how about we go and drop our bags upstairs, then we can have a wee bit of refreshment afore I show ye round.”
“Sounds like a plan to me.”
Before Claire had chance, Jamie picked up her bag and led the way out of the kitchen, down a stone floored passage and through a door into a large wood panelled hallway, with several doors off it and a large wooden staircase ascending to a first floor galleried landing.
“When ‘twas built, the kitchen was no’ fer guests,” Jamie explained as Claire looked round admiringly. “And sae the panelling and the finery ended at that door.”
He pointed to where they had come from. “Now the kitchen’s the room we use the most.”
Jamie climbed the stairs as Claire trailed behind, looking at all the family pictures on the walls. This was a place that Uncle Lamb could happily have called home. He opened one of the heavy doors on the landing. Claire stepped into a bedroom with oak furniture and a massive stone fireplace, currently unlit.
“Am I in here?” She asked.
Jamie nodded. “Aye, we’re both in here. This is ma room.”
Claire tried to imagine this room as it had been when he was a boy, full of toys and books with Lego strewn across the carpet, or when he was a teenager with posters and video games and that particular adolescent male aroma - three parts testosterone, two parts stinking sports wear and one part sheer horniness.
She wandered around, noticing the framed photographs dotted round the room, the various rosettes and silver cups and the airfix model airplanes placed on the highest shelves of the bookcase - the room of a man too old for such juvenile pastimes, yet loath to get rid of his boyhood achievements. She guessed there was probably a Nintendo N64 tucked away in some cupboard, ready to resume a Super Mario game last played in 2004.
Her attention fixed on the large bed in the centre of one wall. “Is your father OK with us both sleeping in here?”
She kicked off her sandals and primly sat on the edge.
“Sassenach, I’m thirty-two years old. I have my ain hoose. I think he kens what goes on between a man and a woman.”
Jamie pulled off his shoes and joined her, grabbing her around the waist. “Besides, I’m living oot fifteen year old Jamie’s fantasy, a bonnie woman in his bed, with a round arse jes’ made fer fondling.”
“So, I’m not going to find anything I might regret here in your room, am I? Like porn magazines or...”
“Porn mags, Sassenach?” Jamie appeared horrified. “What d’ye think I am? There are no porn mags in this room, I promise ye... ye can get everything ye need off the internet nowadays.”
Claire playfully punched him on the shoulder. Jamie responded by drawing her closer to him.
“I dinna need porn,” he whispered, his breath hot on her neck. “I have ye… and my imagination.”
Bringing his lips to meet hers, he teased them open and his tongue ran between them. She moaned against his mouth as she felt his arms tighten around her and she met his tongue with her own, rubbing it seductively around, licking the inside of his mouth, her fingers tangling in his hair. “Claire, what ye do tae me...” he breathed as he pulled away, looking into her eyes.
She smiled and ran her hands down his back to the bottom of his shirt scraping her nails lightly over the bare skin she slowly uncovered. He moaned and closed his eyes briefly before lowering his head again and claiming her mouth. Jamie’s lips moved lightly across her cheek to her neck and he smiled as he felt her quiver in his arms. His fingertips traced her jawline as he sucked her ear lobe, loving the feel of her pressed against him, her head thrown back in pleasure. His hands slid along her body, pulling her on top of him as he sank back on to the bed.
Copying Jamie’s actions, Claire began to kiss his neck. He inhaled sharply as her warm mouth found his earlobe and nibbled at it gently. Rising up, she threw one leg over his body to straddle him. As her hands caressed the hard muscles of his arms and shoulders, she instinctively moistened her lips with her tongue. Jamie grew harder as he watched his Claire astride him, her breathing becoming more ragged as he ground his hips against her.
Jamie’s hands reached up to fondle her breasts through her t-shirt. She moaned at his touch and instinctively rolled her hips. Her hands roamed over his muscled stomach and chest as she unbuttoned his shirt.
Claire moved her head back a little and smiled at him. “What time does your dad get home?” She teased.
"Oh god, is this like a teenage makeout session then?” Jamie groaned as he began to push at her top, trying to get it off. She moved her hands down to help him, and together they removed her top and her bra.
“Kind of, although I think we may be going all the way this time.” Claire giggled as she climbed off him.
Lying next to him, she pulled off her jeans and panties. Jamie watched momentarily before quickly stripping off his own jeans and underpants. Claire ran her eyes over his naked body. “Jamie...” she reminded. “...socks.”
There was a playful quality to their lovemaking. Laughing together as they sought each other’s mouths, limbs entwining with accidental collisions of elbows and knees, their movements together becoming more heated and urgent with every breath.
Jamie paused momentarily, and leant over the side of the bed, fumbling with his rucksack before returning to Claire, foil packet in hand. Together they eased the condom on before Jamie positioned himself and entered her. Claire’s body wrapped around him, her thighs around his waist, arms around his neck. Locked into another deep, passionate kiss, she clung to him as their moans blended together.
Their bodies grew slick with sweat as they moved in unison. Claire closed her eyes as she began to feel her orgasm wash over her. Jamie felt her tighten around him, pushing him over the edge as she cried out his name.
Still panting, Jamie rolled off Claire and lay on his side to face her.
“I need a shower now…” Claire began.
Jamie interrupted her with a gentle kiss. “Fifteen year old Jamie thanks ye, from the bottom of his heart. Better than any of his imaginings!”

Written by R. Ann Parris on The Prepper Journal.
Many aspects of the Modern Minuteman toolbox apply to preparedness in general, however personal and small-scale or widespread and earth shaking our pet disasters may be. As with overall preparedness, our exact situation and our expectations of disaster scenarios affects what we prioritize for our finite time and attention.
Last time, I concentrated on an “early/now” frame for prioritizing a handful of commonly recommended skills. This time, I’m actually taking the “at all” perspective, be it amped-up community watches, riot control, or some NWO-EROL situation we’re gearing up to oppose.
As always, opposing opinions are welcome. The more perspectives available, the better everyone is able to make their own decisions.
Gauge Community Climate
Absolutely and emphatically, yes.
Heaven help me, I recently found myself agreeing with Nancy Pelosi. A group of students approached her in her office to express their displeasure in her lack of support for an AOC environmental bill. Her reply was essentially that stupid to waste time on something with absolutely zero chance of passing.
That was a fair enough point on its own, and speaks directly to taking the pulse of a population.
Even more so was a nugget that made fewer news sites in the following days: The belief that trying to push too-extreme an agenda – however much she personally might agree with it – was worse than doing nothing at all. It would only further ruffle feathers, making things harder to achieve the next time around.
I’m no more fan of politicians than the next, but the ability to accurately predict and read the masses is something that we do need to be aware of if we have any interest whatsoever in being a citizen soldier.
What the community will stand and what they won’t is the bedrock of insurgency and resistance movements.
What they will and won’t stand in good times, versus crux moments and tragedy, historically makes or breaks those movements, as well as the hold over a community by a commanding force – whether that’s a large, visible government with policing agents and military, or the behind-the-scenes types large and small.
It applies to anticipating and either preventing or responding to something like a riot or demonstration, as well as guerrilla actions against occupations and undermining strongholds of loyalists for either/any faction.
Large scale, long-term or single-event short-term, we have to be able to gauge the mood of the mob and the climate of our communities, and our reactions have to come from a complete tool set – not just picking today’s hammer.
If we can’t, our chances of success are downright nil.
Denial & Disruption
Most emphatically, yes.
Riot control on sidewalks or countering the jackboot takeover, we want to be able to deny our enemy intel and assets, and disrupt their way of doing business (and ability to relax).
That can take all sorts of forms – and has, throughout history.
Interdiction and harassment take so many forms, it really rates its own set of articles even to nutshell the tactics and techniques employed by insurgency and resistance in guerrilla operations, community and large-force counters to guerilla operations, and even law enforcement and IT deterrents large and small, and internal policing by law enforcement and militaries and even lowly little small-business operations, as well as force-on-force operations from pre-tech eras to modern times.
On the larger scales, it involves all sorts of supply and travel disruptions, misinformation/counter-intel, harassing fire, false flags, etc.
Many of those can also be applied on the smallest of scales – even interpersonal conflict and self-defense situations – employing different techniques to the same theories, or adapting techniques to fit conditions.
Again, though, we really want to mind the effects on and reactions of our internal and closest-ties allies (family, coworkers, partners), the near neighbors, and the community at large, as well as our opposition and the reactions of their varying rings of influence.
Wilderness & Military Camp Setup
Yes, absolutely – anywhere.
Site development and placement of elements – modern or long past – have a lot of aspects that apply to preparedness in general, even “just” getting through a hurricane and “just” setting up our homes for everyday functional efficiency and security.
The same aspects keep them relevant to a modern minuteman intending to defend storefronts or residential communities from riots as well as the prepper who anticipates infantry-like service defending freedom.
Positioning for ready communication, rapid responses, protection of key elements, LOS, external observation points, latrines/sanitation, deployment outside the wire and-or green zones, individual safety and incoming-fire cover, fire safety, supply distribution, and awareness of known effective ranges by position and armament all factor in.
They apply equally to both the able-bodied foot soldier and to the physically limited watchman or rear-echelon non-combatant, whatever the situation, however big or small the location.
*Think that one through, and consider our daily nothing-wrong lifestyles – It really does resonate everywhere, from where our smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are, to aggravations or eases when we grocery shop, bathe dogs, do laundry, file and maintain paperwork, coordinate with family and coworkers, get to and from our chores and recreations, etc. We don’t have to be totally paranoid or OCD to start seeing typical trends in non-prepper, non-minuteman sources for safety/protection and efficiency.
Camo & Concealment
Meh.
Really, it’s situationally dependent.
For most of the scenarios we can list off, from protecting our corner of Baltimore or Koreatown to taking our turn as the insurgents – or countering them, or splinter cells of a larger force – unless you’re a sniper operating from the woods, mostly, “meh” leaning “well, nah”.
Flip side: Oh hell yeah, because camo and concealment isn’t always green and tan splotches of paint or fabric.
Camo and concealment is a suit or slacks and a briefcase in a courthouse, yoga pants and a light bag at the park, a “normal” passenger vehicle instead of an off-road rock-climbing mudder or Humvee on the average street, high-vis vests with dirty pants on a road crew with their bucket or tool box/bag, and scuffed up boots on a farm hand.
That camo and concealment extends to mixing up travel patterns to avoid breaking foliage and creating “deer trails”, being able to slip out of a location without observation, and presenting the appearance of following habitual movements and activities while deviating from the norm.
It’s also developing the control to watch our mouths and non-verbals rather than fight every battle that comes our way and picking every hill as our hill to die on. (Return to Nancy Pelosi above to make that an even uglier pill to swallow.)
And, yeah, in a few situations, it’s being able to become a rock on the hill or another tuft of brush, but unless we’re evading birds or sniper hunters, mostly breaking up our outlines isn’t too hard and doesn’t always require paint or cammies.
Hand-to-Hand Combat
Yes and no.
Don’t get me wrong. Self-defense capabilities are great to have, period. It’s not like this world has ever been totally safe, or like it’s getting any crazier.
However you want to apply it, keep in mind how often we see 2-5 cops or foreign militias trying to wrestle a bad guy into cuffs or move them after arrest, and weigh how much training and daily practice they get, versus our ability to invest time and money into training.
Our expectations of the bad guy we’ll be encountering, and how we’re deploying also factor in pretty hugely.
If we’re countering a significant force, whether it’s widespread jackboots and organized invaders or forces that have the benefit of protective gear, our chances of success are much lower.
Similarly, our chances against servicemen from one of the nations that focus significant continuing training time on some pretty gnarly martial arts, knife work, and batons … not so hot.
There are exploits for hand-to-hand combat even against somebody wearing body armor groin to neck, face shields and helmets, and knee pads. We just have to be realistic about whether we’re going to personally stand a chance with our available investment capabilities, or if we want to focus instead on something else.
Learn some basics that fit your physical condition for everyday encounters, but don’t break the bank on this one.
Instead, for minuteman purposes develop awareness, de-escalation, and evasion skills as well as Gray Man presentation.
Also work reflex drills, ankle-knee lateral and start-stop strength (or chair skills), and balance exercises – especially for people who are limited in some way by age, injury, or genetic luck of the draw.
Urban or rural, footing can be iffy. The better able we are to compensate for shifting terrain, curbs, bumps, and slips, and the better able we are to change direction on a dime, the better chance we stand of staying in the fight, whatever the scenario we imagine.
Modern Minuteman Skillsets
Most likely, the term “Modern Minuteman” brings a certain image to our heads. And, most likely, any 2-20 of us would describe very different images – particularly as the most likely and most common potential for a modern minuteman to deploy.
Because we have very different situations and needs, with very different scenarios in mind and very different capabilities due to our physical shape and local environment, the skills we are most likely to need are going to vary.
Some, though, are pretty universal. We can sometimes assign a value across the board, regardless of situation or scenario.
With any luck, somebody disagrees with these, or the matrix I apply at large, and presents points for discussion.
If not and until then, go find somebody who thinks “bah, PC community-pulse nonsense” or “moron, every soldier should fight with sticks”. Weigh the argument presented for those situations, and decide what does actually make sense for you. It’s only having multiple perspectives that really lets us prioritize, whether we’re picking out groceries or putting together our minuteman to-do list.

As the number of ARCs on my bookshelves dwindle, I’m finding that deciding what stays and what goes is becoming increasingly harder. I’m starting to come across books where I really struggle with whether I should keep them or not. Granted, I’m incredibly grateful for all of these books, even if I fell into the habit of picking up ARCs just because I could.
I’ve also watched a few book hauls from Book Expo America and BookCon this past week and I’ve realize how this trend of grabbing free books just because you can is still pretty standard at those events. I’ve seen people mention that they just grabbed a book because it was free and not because they were anticipating it. I mean, you do whatever makes you happy, but I’m starting to see that in my doing exactly what these book lovers do I took away the chance for others to enjoy books I’m now unhauling. It’s really an eye-opening experience.
Anyway, onto the books!
___
A gentle reminder: Just because I’ve unhauled the books in this post and in future posts, it doesn’t mean that they’re books not worth reading. They’re just not right for me. This is more of an incentive for me to free up space and give these books better homes than my basement.
Read my original post and how I’m going about this challenge here.
Have any of you practiced this challenge this past week?
___
Lovely, Dark, and Deep by Justina Chen
Decision: Unhauled
i started reading this and knew right away that it wasn’t for me. I will admit that sometimes I do some research into a book when I’m not sure if I want to keep the book. I also tend to skim some of the pages to see if I’d be interested in actually finishing the book. I did that with this one and while the synopsis is interesting, I’m not really into the writing. But this was definitely the toughest decision of the three books this week.
Synopsis:
“What would you do if the sun became your enemy?
That's exactly what happens to Viola Li after she returns from a trip abroad and develops a sudden and extreme case of photosensitivity -- an inexplicable allergy to sunlight. Thanks to her crisis-manager parents, she doesn't just have to wear layers of clothes and a hat the size of a spaceship. She has to stay away from all hint of light. Say goodbye to windows and running outdoors. Even her phone becomes a threat when its screen burns her.
Viola is determined to maintain a normal life, particularly after she meets Josh. He's a funny, talented Thor look-alike who carries his own mysterious grief. But the intensity of their romance makes her take more and more risks, and when a rebellion against her parents backfires dangerously, she must find her way to a life -- and love -- as deep and lovely as her dreams.”
___
Little Monsters by Kara Thomas
Decision: Save for another day
I’ve read one other book by Kara Thomas in the past and enjoyed it enough to want to save this one for another round! I’m not big on YA thrillers, but I’m willing to try another novel by this author.
Synopsis:
“Kacey is the new girl in Broken Falls. When she moved in with her father, she stepped into a brand-new life. A life with a stepbrother, a stepmother, and strangest of all, an adoring younger half sister.
Kacey’s new life is eerily charming compared with the wild highs and lows of the old one she lived with her volatile mother. And everyone is so nice in Broken Falls—she’s even been welcomed into a tight new circle of friends. Bailey and Jade invite her to do everything with them.
Which is why it’s so odd when they start acting distant. And when they don’t invite her to the biggest party of the year, it doesn’t exactly feel like an accident.
But Kacey will never be able to ask, because Bailey never makes it home from that party. Suddenly, Broken Falls doesn’t seem so welcoming after all—especially once everyone starts looking to the new girl for answers.
Kacey is about to learn some very important lessons: Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes when you’re the new girl, you shouldn’t trust anyone.”
___
Orphan Monster Spy by Matt Killeen
Decision: Unhauled
I’m not a big fan of historical fiction, so this one was a pretty quick decision. There isn’t much I can say about this book other than I really need to stop picking up books just because I can. I hope this book finds a new owner that will love it endlessly.
Synopsis:
“After her mother is shot at a checkpoint, fifteen-year-old Sarah--blonde, blue-eyed, and Jewish--finds herself on the run from a government that wants to see every person like her dead. Then Sarah meets a mysterious man with an ambiguous accent, a suspiciously bare apartment, and a lockbox full of weapons. He's a spy, and he needs Sarah to become one, too, to pull off a mission he can't attempt on his own: infiltrate a boarding school attended by the daughters of top Nazi brass, befriend the daughter of a key scientist, and steal the blueprints to a bomb that could destroy the cities of Western Europe.
With years of training from her actress mother in the art of impersonation, Sarah thinks she's ready. But nothing prepares her for her cutthroat schoolmates, and soon she finds herself in a battle for survival unlike any she'd ever imagined.”
