i support palestinians and am against the state of israel and it's horrific actions towards the palestinian people (it's genocide. if you dont think it's genocide then leave, please. or if you feel that the state of israel-- how it is now-- has a "right to exist" please leave. it seems to me that israel's existence currently necessitates settler-colonialism of at least some degree, which I am NOT okay with.

all of this being said, I don't doubt at all that Jewish folks are native/indigenous to that area and I won't try to argue otherwise. I just don't think establishing a whole other country over top of a pre-existing country already full of culture and people doesn't really need to happen. ultimately I have very little actual stakes in the situation so my perspective is lacking nuance and... well, perspective, but it does seem to me that Israel as a concept is currently being used to justify a genocide and force people away from their homes. Block me if you have a problem with this, I won't mind :) )

i cannot donate any money to any crowdfunding things right now, so please don't ask me to do so. I am saving money to move out of Texas ASAP and for transitioning stuff (HRT, name changes... stuff like that). It will take a good chunk of change to make it happen, but I believe in myself

Feraveli: Tiktok and the "Therian Aesthetic"

Tiktok has been downloaded onto my phone since 2020, and I've been in an off and on dynamic with the app. There were periods where I'll be addicted to scrolling for months and moments where I'll just go cold turkey for equal amounts and in the time I've had the app, there's a lot of things I've learnt like what the app is about, how it works, why the algorithm is the way it is and why trends become trends and the users who make up the app. Not to say I completely understand the app at all, most of my opinion on tiktok are just patterns I've noticed which resulted into an assumed conclusion with no real backing and support other than a "I've had tiktok for 4 years"

In my opinion, Tiktok is an app that encourages consumerism and wants people to conform to a single box label and aesthetic and lifestyle, essentially encouraging you to make yourself a brand and it's because of the way the algorithm works. According to my boyfriend, the more you intensely focus on one certain niche, aesthetic, community or singular type of content, the more your account will be advertised to your desired audience/demographic that post or consume similar content. You can do things like following people who match the "theme" of your account, reposting content similar to what you want to post, liking and commenting on said posts as well and following and using hashtags that connect you to the content you want to make. All these actions, while necessary to build somewhat of a platform on the app, create a bubble at best and an echo chamber at worst. Everything you do on tiktok is anaylsed by the app to curate the "perfect" for you page (FYP) of all your interests and most content creators on tiktok are aware of this, that's why you see people who are stacked with merch of their favorite anime or why there are accounts who just post edits for a single franchise/character or people who post outfits under a single aesthetic.

The more you visually and materially show how dedicated you are to an aesthetic, franchise or community, the more people will see your theme and they'll follow you, want to be and look like you and then start buying products similar to the aesthetic you're advertising.

It's an app that's known to water down sub-cultures and aesthetics to the point that the origins and themes of these concepts become almost obsolete, favoring visual aesthetics over the true meaning of the sub-culture. Goth and Scene, for example, are one of the more obvious examples. Part of the reason sub-cultures with history dating back decades ago get so warped is due to the way the algorithm works and how tiktok and its users profits off of niche aesthetics and communities.

So, what does this have to do with therianthropy?

Tiktok therians have been a bit of a topic in the community. Talks of how tiktok is filled with misinformation and how the therians of tiktok just focus on the visual aspects of therianthropy rather than the experience. I've read from a lot of therians that were active during the 90's and 00's and the 10's that talked about how different therianthropy has evolved since back then when you could connect with other therians through forums and the era of essays that profoundly described their experiences about being a therian and the deeper meaning of what that meant to them.

For tiktok therians, on the surface, it seems the experience of being a therian is branded as making masks and doing quadobics. It's all tiktok constantly regurgitates. The "aesthetic" of being a therian is someone who wears masks and has those clip-on tails. It's being connected to nature and running and frolicking around in pretty meadows and exploring lush dense forests. Its muted greens and earth brown tones. It's the "therian bedrooms" with the fake leaf decor and the masks and tails hung on the wall. It's the slow-motion tiktoks of people doing quadobics.

What came with this aesthetic and branding came with tiktok pushing this content out to the millions of people who used the app and would come across these videos. Some of the people who saw these videos, who had no idea what therians were, would be introduced into a community that they wanted to participate in and so more people would post more content under this "aesthetic"

The aesthetic, of course, came with its downsides. The major focus on the the visual imagery of therianthropy would result in very little talks about the experience and introspection of being a therian and even less on the history of the community. Like I said earlier, tiktok can create a bubble and the therians who awakened through the app very rarely research past the tiktok search function which has resulted in a lot of misinformation and old debunked discouse rehashed passing through the algorithm like wildfire.

There has been efforts to push back against the misinformation through accounts that do talk about the history of the community and educate the therians on the app but the ratio between quadrobics and educators is unbalanced with quadrobics accounts being more in quantity. Doesn't help that tiktok favors quadobics content more, leaving the accounts that try to educate and talk more deeply about therianthropy and alterhumanity as a whole with little reach and a small platform. Even more is that some of the accounts that try and educate sometimes spread misinformation themselves.

Now, I want to add a disclaimer. You can absolutely enjoy quadobics and wearing masks, and not every therian is responsible for educating others when the resources for it can be found through Google. You don't need to explain your experience as a therian, you can just simply enjoy being a therian in however you express that and if it's through quadrobics and masks then you are just as valid and important as the therians who originated from alt.werewolf.horror.

The problem is how tiktok conflates this aesthetic of therians with the experience and identity of being one and makes it as if this is all the community is when it's not an accurate representation of the community as a whole. Honestly, it doesn't even touch the tip of the iceberg of therianthropy.

So when I came across an account that had recently coined the term "Feraveli," I instantly latched onto the label because I saw the potential in how important it is.

Feraveli was created in October 2024 and is coined by Solar (also known as @hellhoundtherian on tiktok). The summarised definition of feraveli is:

"People who enjoy the aesthetics of nature and animals"

Its a simple enough definition, made to be simple on purpose so people could build upon it themselves. This could mean liking certain habitats like forests or oceans or the dessert and the animals that inhabit them. It could mean liking concepts like the aesthetic of night and nocturnal animals. It could mean liking the mesozonic era of the past and liking the dinosaurs and animals of those times.

The term was coined to actually give a name to the tiktok therian aesthetic and that's why I think it's important for the term to exist because being able to give the aesthetic a name is the first step to being able to separate it from the experience and the therian identity as a whole. I believe that the term will give others the vocabulary neccesery to make it more easier for therians and alterhumans in general to vocalise more about their experiences allowing for more introspective conversations about how they feel versus the visual aspect of their identity. But more importantly, the term isn't just meant to be a term synonymous with alterhumanity. The term allows room for non-alterhumans to participate in the aesthetic without having to use nonhuman labels due to misunderstandings and misinformation.

Otherpaw is also a term that exists for similar reasons, to separate the aesthetic from the identity. The difference, I find, is that people who use the otherpaw label very rarely also identify as therians because they like the aesthetic of quadrobics and masks rather than actually identifying as an animal. Feraveli can also be that, but it's a term that wants to be explored and expressed rather than letting itself have a restrictive and rigid definition.

Feraveli can just be as simple as liking nature and animals but it can mean so much more than that to others who label themselves as feraveli.

In the feraveli carrd, Solar describes the different ways feraveli could be expressed, such as:

Dressing up as your chosen feraveli aesthetic (forest, nighttime, ocean) in whatever clothes you think represents that aesthetic

Decorating your room in items and trinkets and decor you think matches the vibe of your chosen feraveli aesthetic

Adopting other aesthetics and meshing it together with being a feraveli if it helps you express your feraveli aesthetic, such as taking aspects of fairycore, if you think it helps you express the vibes of the forest more

From an alterhuman perspective, I think feraveli can help other alterhumans express their alterhumanity more easily. For example, a bat therian who is a night feraveli, a fictionkin whose feraveli aesthetic matches the environment of their fictotypes media source or a robot kin that has a feraveli aesthetic centered around sci-fi and machines or even horrorkin who finds a feraveli aesthetic in environments like silent hill / foggy spooky areas. It's a lovely sandbox term, I think, that really thrives on creativity and expression more than anything and I'm so thankful the term exists.

For me, I'm a city and suburban feraveli. I like the aesthetics of the city and suburbs as I feel like it resonates with my canine theriotype. Both feravelis make me think of stray dogs and cats patrolling the streets which makes me feel euphoric when I picture myself as that. I express this feraveli type through dressing up more grunge and baggy because I think the style represents the vibes of the city. I wear blacks and grays for the same reason and created a playlist of songs that I think fits the aesthetic of the city. Another reason I feel so connected to these aesthetic feraveli types is because I also grew up and lived in these environments. I could talk about my personal feraveli more but I'd need more time to see what feels right for me under this label.

The term was coined recently, after all. Created only a month ago, not nearly enough time for the term to have solidified a culture for itself, but the beginnings of a community have sprouted on tiktok, and I hope that it continues to grow. It's exciting, to be honest, with feraveli being a newly created term to me. I'm excited to see the potential of it evolve like so many other terms such as copinglink, folcintera, and even the label therian itself as it has also evolved over time throughout the community. I'm even more excited to see and read potential essays about how others express feraveli and what the term means to them. I'm just excited to see how feraveli grows, and I hope anyone reading this will give feraveli a chance and incorporate the term towards themselves.

really quick tumblr guide for you btw i have noticed confusion

ok so. whenever you get compliments on art you wouldnt typically reblog (tapping that arrow in a rectangle shape) the reblog to say thanks. but if you want to respond to tags, like if its a question, you can copy the tags into your own tags, or screenshot it and respond to it in the text box (or make it its own post depending on what theyre asking like if its a question about your art style)

also keep in mind that when reblogging stuff the original poster (op) will likely see it, so be kind!

also about how the tumblr algorithm works. no one uses the for you page. no one. i might use it when ive exhausted my dash and tags but i typically dont. everyone usually uses the dashboard

what makes tumblr unique in this day and age (and why most people who use other social media arent fond of it) is that you have to build your dash. you follow people who post and reblog things you like, and then reblog those reblogs and so is the cycle of tumblr. you dont have to reblog things though, but just so you know, liking things will not distribute it to your followers. you gotta reblog it to share it

also a quick note about organizing your blog. some people keep separate reblog blogs and art blogs, me personally i shove everything into the same blog. to keep it organized i use tags, because people can search your blogs by the tags. if you check my pinned post you can see the main tags i use to organize and how i use them (and if you click itll bring to my archive and itll show you all the posts ive made in that tag (hopefully. tumblr is moody sometimes))

hi!! so far i think this year has been good with bl's but i think these few are the ones that i think stand out the most.

this one came as a shock to me. i haven't been keeping up well with mbs' bls, given that "eternal yesterday" scarred me for life. but knowing the original source, i saw the announcement of them doing this and thought, you know what, maybe it won't be so bad. it won't. and i got shocked at how much i love the actors, the setting, and the characters. i loved this series so much that my tiktok fyp page was filled with one of the actor's cute tiktok dances, and i guess that's just the algorithm for me.

kiseki: dear to me

you can already tell from the amount of gifsets i make that i love this bl. initially, i only watched because i know that my favorite bl scriptwriter, lin pei yu, who i've been a fan of since her first bl, was in charge of the series. but as it went on, i was begging for more because of how much the actors, the plot, the characters, and the setting draw me in. it will honestly become one of my most favorites after it finishes airing. the whole thing just gives off that history-trapped vibe that i've been yearning for in taiwanese bl for so long.

having read the original novel (go buy and read it. it's amazing), i was expecting this one to be just fine. now that a few episodes have been aired, i'm aware that they did some cutting from the novel to fit the lakorn-style series. still, the quality, acting, and chemistry are so good. i wasn't confident at first since it was directed by tee, but then again, you can't always judge a director from their other few series. especially since this one deals with heavy themes of identity, culture-bound issues, and history. so far so good. i think this might be a standout bl for this quarter.

one of the hit bl's that i personally wasn't a fan of at first, but then i saw how good their chemistry was and how well thought out the plot was. i was also shocked that even the actors themselves didn't expect this series to blow up because it was great from start to finish. one of my favorite scenes this year is that one scene where kitae had an emotional breakdown in front of wan.

this one surprised me the most. having released all their episodes in one day, i was shocked at how long they've kept this from us. it was filmed during the start of the pandemic, and it was only given to us this year. such an amazing drama series.

though one of the reasons why i found this amazing was watching it when i was sick, so i guess that contributed to it.

unintentional love story

what i loved about this series is the length and character progression. it just goes to show that k-bl's have the potential to become full-length in the future.

another masterpiece made with love. i think there's not much i can say about this series other than it's one of those classic bl's. i recently recommended this to a friend for their first bl, and they loved it and became a fan instantly.

a bit controversial, but i think my own perception of this series was different than everyone else's. what i love about the series is its outstanding chemistry, easy-to-consume plot, and actors' visuals.

to me, this bl feels like thailand's first step in making korean bl. let me explain. one of the reasons why this series has some hint of thai production in it is because of the presence of high heat among the main characters.

now, a lot of people complain about the quality, but to me, it's fine. it's fine because it's not a series that's meant to be taken seriously, and it's also nonsensical for the sake of easy consumption among viewers. though i gotta say that the actors have great potential to be in other bl's as well.

I wrote a little more for the morbell teacher AU. having fun. I've been slowing down a bit more because I have schoolwork to focus on and I've also been pretty busy recently.

Yes the dog is Boadicea in this AU like Baylock is Micah's tuxedo cat. Boadicea is a Australian Cattle Dog because they're very active and spooky like Arthur but very playful. For those who don't get it, people on tiktok, particularly on cringe or embarrassing videos, normally say "I built this for you page brick by brick" as in like, "im responsible for the content I receive". Then it sort of morphed into "this brick was thrown at me" as in "I didn't do anything to get this sort of content, what the heck". And THEN it morphed into more "did you at least kick the brick before you threw it at me" on sadder videos, like saying "did you at least feel bad for posting this and getting it on my fyp"

Kiss of the Basilisk 🐍— Review

⚠️ Spoiler Warning: This review contains major spoilers for Kiss of the Basilisk.

If you haven’t read it and still plan to (for some curious reason), proceed with caution.

How can a book about sex be 500+ pages long? And it’s not the Kamasutra. At least that one is educational — this one, though…

How did I get into this book?

After I liked a Mastok content on TikTok, similar content started conquering my FYP. I am not a dark romance fan, but if it is fantasy dark romance? well...

Then I ended up at the unhinged book recommendations of TikTok. I am not complaining.

Kiss of the Basilisk was one of the most unhinged books recommended. The readers who liked it suggest it to you with a line: The basilisk inserted his essence (I am cringing while writing this) in her and makes it throb when he isn’t around. Like a magical, elastic vibrator, he can change its size as well.

Would I call that unhinged? Me? No. Is it creative and gross? Yes.

I saw a few more recommendations. So, I was like, why not? and picked up the book.

The concept is intriguing: A human girl trained by a basilisk to be the wife of a prince?

OKAY!

I was hooked a few pages in. It was an immediate ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️stars — at first.

But then, when the FMC, Temperance, talks about being connected on another level after she met her first love interest a few minutes ago, it sent a shiver of cringe down my spine. But then again, I remembered she had never been kissed, had any sexual or romantic experience, and was 20 years old.

I don’t want to remember what I used to think connection was supposed to look like at that age, so I gave her a bit of grace.

But after a while, page after page after page, not only her but all the characters — except the antagonists and her mother — were nothing but sex-frenzied… things.

You could squeeze the characters, and you would only get a juice of libido the height of a skyscraper.

The antagonists had at least a character depth that was one level deeper than the others. Their actions and motivations made sense to some extent.

The sons of the antagonists — Caspen, the basilisk, and Leo, the prince — were annoying as hell. I am on board with why their fathers think they are a disappointment.

I am not a man, but I am a hundred percent certain men don’t think like that — even if they are fictional.

They wouldn’t think that the most fickle, naïve, low self-esteem, victim card-playing person is the most unique, fearsome, full-of-depth woman. There wasn’t even a whiff of potential there, either.

I was in her head, trust me Caspen and Leo, I know!

It’s okay to start naïve, and fine to still have some flaws by the end of the book. However, character growth matters. And when the FMC builds her confidence — if we are going to call it that — on Caspen’s validation, that’s worse than where she had started, and it doesn’t even help the plot.

That took one star down for me, so now it was ⭐️⭐️⭐️stars.

Staying in her head after a few hundred pages was annoying; I just wanted to smash her head after a while.

Temperance flips the switch when she sees Leo as though Caspen doesn’t exist at all, and when she is with Caspen, Leo who?

Discipline during days of despair

My state of mind often swings to the extremes. On days that I feel good, discipline seems effortless to me where I'd get everything done by merely following my impulses. Contrarily, there are some days, in fact most of the time, I'd feel terrible where even a facile chore such as taking a shower feels like climbing a mountain. All the progress I've made in my life can be credited to the former, which had turned me blind towards my lack of diligence.

I never had to train myself to work hard because I never needed to do so ever in my life. I was too proud of my natural capabilities that I refused to work on my flaw. As a result, I haven't accomplished anything that I'm proud of. I'm speaking of accomplishment from a sense of personal fulfillment, and not society's. I've rather become merely somewhat good at certain things. I used to praise myself for having developed these skills in the very little time and effort I had put into, but in retrospect, I find that to be nothing short of a coping mechanism for my failures.

According to my observation, during my days of despair, I could sense a sort of a barricade between my will to do something and the act of doing that task. For example, despite a strong desire to write, I wouldn’t be able to translate it to action due to my lack of willpower to break through the blockade.

If I do not fix such days, I’ll never change and will continue to disappoint myself. Gladly, I had just experimented a method which could be an antidote in case I sense a lack of dopamine.

I woke up feeling quite normal today. I got out of my bed a couple of minutes later and finished all of my morning routine which felt good. I also read a few pages of Thomas Bernhard’s Wittgenstein’s Nephew. Then, I wished to do some push-ups but I lacked the motivation to do a difficult exercise. So, I warmed up a bit with stretches and jumping jacks but they weren’t enough. At last, two sets of crunches gave me a sense of accomplishment and I gained the motivation to finally perform some push-ups, and I pulled it off.

The method is that if I don’t feel motivated enough to do a task that I wish to do, I should finish smaller related tasks and gradually increase my motivation to the point where I can accomplish the main task.

If not for this method, today’s morning would have likely transpired in the opposite direction. I would’ve stayed in bed longer while browsing my phone, I wouldn’t have read Bernhard, and I certainly wouldn’t have worked out. On top of that, there is absolutely no way I could’ve journaled these thoughts and actions. Instead, I would’ve remained sulking, browsing web, playing games, draining my motivation down further and further, and would’ve convinced myself that today’s just another bad day and vainly hope that I can gain my momentum tomorrow.

It’s a cycle of behaviour that doesn’t cease easily. A ‘bad’ day often becomes a week, and sometimes a fortnight, although I’m glad that I never had a terrible month, credits to my random bursts of energy.

Differentiating a positive action and its negative counterpart requires nothing more than a tinge of self-awareness. I should ask myself two questions: “Is it my duty to perform this task?” and “How will I feel upon completion of the said task? Will I feel positive emotions such as feeling energised, focused, happy, satisfied, etc., or will I feel drained?” If my answer to at least one of these two questions is true, I should carry on to do it. If both are false, it’s best to categorise it as a negative action and avoid it entirely.

Social media feeds, for example, drain my will, which can be solved by using plugins to block FYPs, so I can use those websites exclusively for messaging my friends. Taking a stroll energises me, and hence I should do it frequently considering that it’s such an easy task with profound results.

Anyways, I hope that I’d finally sort my issues out, and even if this method fails me, it’s always good to experiment. Cheers!

It was an opportunity too good for Meta to ignore: On January 19, TikTok, one of its biggest social media rivals, was set to go dark across the United States when a new national security law went into effect. Instagram has scaled back its in-app shopping initiatives in recent years, but on Friday, Meta showed off a new feature that appears to be directly ripped from TikTok Shop, TikTok’s widely successful ecommerce platform. In a promotional video, two shopping creators working for Meta explained how influencers can now “more prominently display” products they are marketing in Reels. Instead of putting an Amazon or Walmart link in the comments, they can add a banner directing viewers to click on the item at the bottom of their videos—just like how it works on TikTok Shop.

Some of Meta’s other efforts were just as pointed. Right before TikTok stopped working for roughly 14 hours on Saturday, some people reported that among the last things they saw on the platform were sponsored posts for Instagram. “Unsurprisingly, as TikTok goes down tonight, Meta is flooding my FYP with ads for Instagram,” one person said in a Bluesky post, referring to TikTok’s AI-powered For You Page feed. “In my last hour of TikTok I saw ads for instagram,” another person said on Threads.

TikTok’s Ad Library, a transparency tool that allows anyone to search what paid campaigns are running on the platform, shows that Meta ran dozens of sponsored videos about Instagram and Reels in January that were collectively viewed by millions of users. But the tool includes data from only a select number of countries—mostly in Europe—and doesn’t cover what ads TikTok users may have seen in the United States. Meta did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

TikTok announced it was coming back online in the US on January 19, after president-elect Donald Trump signaled he would sign an executive order following his inauguration the next day extending the deadline for the new law to take full effect.
