maybe a bit of a weird thing to post during alectopause but honestly I'm a little excited about the fandom after the series is finished for good. Maybe it's just because of how I engage with most fandoms on this site but there's something to be said about a ""dead"" fandom, yknow?

Being able to discuss a story in its entirety, critical analysis (and loving a story despite whatever flaws you find in it), tamsyn writing a different book and the more personal interactions within a fandom past its peak are some of my favourite things about getting into fandoms on this website, it's great!

I had some Vashmeryl on the brain and thought of the very iconic kiss fist bump, an arguably out of left field but very cute and sweet gesture initiated by Vash.

But I was thinking. Meryl picks up the cue silently without any prompting and she doesn't have a self conscious reaction to the gesture. It's very natural and speaks to this chemistry they've always had. But if it were me in her shoes. No matter the moment or context I might struggle to understand why Vash would just say my name and kiss his fist. He doesn't leave it hanging or say anything to indicate what hes trying to do. She kisses hers and they go in for the bump.

So what if there's a missing moment? Like this is actually a reference to something that happened earlier. An inside joke so to say. Perhaps they've had a fist bump moment, perhaps it was a gesture during a promise during simpler times, or maybe an awkward greeting or goodbye. It's something I could see Meryl initiating in a self imposed state of flustered sheepishness. Maybe fist bumping becomes a thing with them. It's chummy. It's familial. It can be thier friendship thing.

Ah but then he kisses his fist in a very tense moment. Meryl is crying, he's on a suicide mission. This is it. He kisses his fist. The fist bump fist. And she knows he's giving her a promise. He's putting a little gesture into thier usual goodbye. Of course she picks up on it. That's thier thing. It brings a smile to her face through the tears.

So I'm subscribing to this headcanon. And I kinda want to see the fist bump precursor idk maybe with the Vash reunion that way we can have a proper call back.

ACTUAL ANSWER BELOW because it got too long. oops lol

anyway. i wrote “DO IT ON PURPOSE” because when it comes to doing a whole drawing with ONLY a pen- you gotta force your brain get creative- at least practice. in other words- work with what you have. it’s basically like solving a problem every few seconds-

because sometimes my hand eye coordination glitches for a split second. or maybe my hand shook or maybe the line is actually shit looking. but instead of scrapping the thing entirely i gotta to try and make it work. ok so if my line looks like crap here maybe i can make it a Part of the drawing by making everything look messier. OR maybe i can even just. hide it!! by coloring a thicker line along it too!!

you can actually HIDE a LOT of mistakes with a pen without erasing anything. and sometimes the mistakes are part of the art- like when i see the most beautiful art online and i see an uncolored pixel. what matters is your final output not the things you cant change now or mean nothing in the big picture

honestly going from sketch to lines and rendering with a pen is about weight control (like with a pencil- sketching yk) and not beating yourself up. in order to gain the “confidence” you gotta absolutely ANNIHILATE the need for 200% perfection. because theres beauty in a mess.

anyway so. when you get the basic stuff down like “in order to to make less mistakes with pen stuff- make sure youre used to what youre drawing already!!!” or “draw/doodle stupid shit with your pen and make it (pen) a PART of you and not some scary beast (pen)

i think it all stems down to forgiving yourself and just having fun. having fun is always my motto. if you ever go “oh no i made a mistake!!!” imagine me yelling “WHO CAAARRESSS!!!!!!!! (#love #positive)” in your EAR
