The problem with reading The Fellowship of the Ring at age nine is that it contains some of the most perfect hurt/comfort known to mankind and The Return of the King only barely edges it out to the top spot

so when you’re a kid and you get your brain blown open by “Flight to the Ford” and by Frodo being injured in Moria and then six months later you get your brain blown open again by “The Tower of Cirith Ungol-The Land of Shadow-Mount Doom”, and you go looking for other things that make you feel that way, literally nothing else compares because Tolkien wrote his own fanfiction all by himself and everything for children is just not as good and all the online fic you read is not “Oxford professor”-level prose because it’s 2003 and you’re in elementary school and staying away from M and NC-17 rated fics where all the good shit is

Night in the woods have had such a profound effect on my life. Playing the game has helped me feel more alive. Mundane and everyday moments of my life have become so meaningful. Hearing the train go by, shopping at a grocery store, walking around town, standing somewhere looking at a lake or at the rain. Such moments are now so meaningful to me. Like I mentioned it makes me feel alive, like I am someone who’s doing something real and that is amazing. For this I am truly grateful to this game, its story and the effect it has had on me. I was in the woods a couple of days ago and I thought about this, it’s pretty great that something like Night in the woods has helped me gain appreciation for my own life and how I live it.
