breaking my silence on chess the musical to say that i would literally not give a fuck about this show if i thought it was good or fully successful at what it is saying. SORRY! i love how messy she is. i love how since 1984 and continuing to this very day people with entirely different perceptions of and opinions on the musical have attempted in their own ways to "make it good" by creating all these different versions with like notably different plots, characterization, and song order, and i love how fucking bad the vast majority of these are despite it all. i hope people keep trying to fix chess the musical forever and until the end of time. i hope no one ever figures it out. i want every currently living theatre director in existence to make their own version and for all these versions to come out on broadway at the same time, making that year's musical season entirely comprised of various different versions of the cold war chess musical by tim rice and half of abba. i want not only our greatest minds but also our middlest-of-the-road and worst minds to come up with their own conclusions as to why chess does not entirely work in its original form or any subsequent forms like to really think about it and yes i do want someone to dedicate their entire life to perfecting chess by releasing version after version after version until they die peacefully but still, as always, in the grips of obsession. i want marriages to be broken up. i want mental states to be shattered. i dream of this world

every time i open my clock app to set my alarm for something mild like 9 a.m. and i have to scroll down past the alarms for 5.30 and 5.45 that i had to regularly use when i was like fifteen in secondary school five days a week i just think how did i not kill myself. how did i even form sentences

hhhhhhhhhhhh saboace royalty au. ace was crown prince but can’t use magic which is necessary to become king, so he renounces his title and becomes infamous for his eccentric tendencies to play up the illusion that he’s truly not meant for the throne and that his younger sibling has full rights to the title of heir.

sabo is born to a family serving in the royal court, has been a genius magician since he was a child, and is the perfect example of a young man fully educated to serve at the king’s side. which is why he’s allowed himself to be tied down into a loveless political engagement with the king’s heir, putting the whims of his family before his own and resigning himself to become the future ruler’s consort/spouse to legitimize his role as an advisory right-hand man.

but then the heir grows rebellious and denounces the engagement with sabo in public and ace swoops in to save the day (and sabo’s reputation), demanding his father give sabo to him instead. he steals sabo away and challenges his sibling’s right to the throne, intent on earning back the title not for himself, but so he can make sabo (who is heavily qualified to rule) the king - and since they’ll be wed, no one will be able to undermine sabo’s position as he will technically be part of the monarchy that governs the kingdom.

KJHGVFHJKJHGB OH ANON that's like once a day!! I'm honored, and so glad you like it kjhbvbnjbhvn I hope to write a lot more oneshots dedicated to them once I finish Attentive Vigor!!! The longfic has a lot of focus on them too, but MAN do I aspire to properly fatten up the macsummers ao3 tag in the future!!!

MEANWHILE, to tide you over, if you've not read these already, I REALLY recommend:

Burn Like Whiskey Flames by Lysandra_Lewis aka @ithinkthiswasabadidea (frankie I'm sorry I always tag u for this but I will be repping this fic until the day I die and I must pay my dues!!) This is actually my favorite macsummers fic ever - not that there are a lot to pick from but Frankie set the bar HIGH with this one!! I've ranted about it here on tumblr, on discord, to literally anyone who will give me the time of day to talk abt macsummers fics, because I always come back to it! Comfort fic fr!!!

The Differences Between Words by Bradleybeautiful. I'll be frank and say that the formatting in this one isn't my favorite, but the writing itself makes me insane. It's a Sean POV with some very eloquent and beautiful prose, contrasting him consistently insisting on his own stupidity, and that alone has been DOING something to me since my very first read of it. Very much worth the read!!!

ANYWAY Thank you so much dear anon for your support!!! I understand too well the hunger for MacSummers content, and while I'm so so glad what I've got to share thus far has been so well received, I really do want to contribute more than what I've been doing, once I get the chance!!
