i just realized that the jellycat retired website isnt available anymore? like they completely deleted it or something. do you know why they would do this or if theres any other place to find the retired designs/what year theyre from?

I've been in contact with the CEO about this since it was so upsetting to me that they removed it and one could no longer look at beloved old friends. I just brought this up a few days ago again and I keep getting the same answer, that they are working hard to bring this section back as they know how important it is to people.

I have two theories about this: Either they are working hard on the most complete retired section ever (a monster project admittedly). OR they figure it's better not to display retired designs publicly as that may lead to more people trying to sell "rare" Jellycats for crazy prices and they just don't want that knowledge out there anymore purely for business reasons. I hope the former is the case, and we will soon see a completely revamped Retired Jellycat Section obviously but from a business perspective it makes more sense to leave that information out I think.

As for other places, there is a database (called jellycollector I think) I know of that's quite new and still in progress but expanding. And of course there is me. I literally saved everything on that website from early 2019 onwards. I also have almost all of the catalogues. Most of them are easy to find as PDFS online!

I will keep you updated but I hope this is helpful for now. I know how frustrating it is that it isn't there right now...

I want to point out that for specific identification questions, one can always email Jellycat customer service , too.

SQUISHMALLOWS/BUM BUMZ ALTERNATIVE MASTERPOST

After posting my warning on Jazwares for supporting Israel, I've been asked time and time again to make my alternative plushies brands available for non-Twitter users, to which I say "absolutely, fuck that site." It's well overdue at this point, so here's my list of plush brands that are way better than Squishmallows and Bum Bumz!

Unfortunately can't provide images due to Tumblr's image limit, but I'll provide websites for you to search through when available.

Complete list is under a readmore for convenience.

Squishables: If you want that same "kawaii" aesthetic and round shapes, Squishables is your best bet. They're great too because a lot of their plush are designed by fans who are given a cut of their sales. Sign up for their email notifications, they have sales very often!

Amuse/Amufun: If you're really into the "kawaii" aesthetic, then it makes sense to look directly towards Japanese brands! You may know them for their Alpacasso line. It can be expensive to get them imported, but I think they're very much worth it.

Jellycat: I can't say I 100% recommend their newer plush anymore considering their steep decline in quality, but their older plush are still so wonderful and full of character. You're bound to find something by them that you like from their catalogue. (Editor's note: This is what my original thread said, but it seems like Jellycat has improved their quality control, so I feel much better with recommending them again!)

Mary Meyer: If JC is too much out of your price range, then Mary Meyer is what I recommend next to them! Their Marshmallow Zoo line is a huge favourite of mine, I love how full of character they are.

Aurora World: Aurora World has plenty of brands under their belt, so there's bound to be something that tickles your fancy. Brands under the Aurora World company include Palm Pals, Eco Nation, Miyoni, and their baby line, Ebba.

Steiff: Ah yes, the OG teddy bear brand, the one that started it all and is still going strong. Be warned that they can get pretty expensive depending on what you're looking at, but I hear that they're so worth every single penny.

Douglas Cuddle Toys: Probably the quintessential plush brand when it comes to realistic plush, especially cats and dogs, but they have tons of other species available too! Pretty affordable too if you're buying them at retail price

Wild Republic: Another one that does more realistic-looking plush, but I think they have a wider selection of species to choose from. If you're looking for a niche animal, Wild Republic (likely) has you covered!

Shinada Morisaka Global: Another plush brand I have yet to get my hands on, but one that I hear fantastic things about. I mean come on, how can you not love these little guys??

Pokemon Center: Jazwares unfortunately holds the license to make Pokemon plush, but that doesn't mean they're your only option when it comes to Pokeplush! TPC has been making their own Pokeplush for ages now, and they have plenty of different lines to suit your tastes.

Sunlemon: They're expensive to get imported but oh my god are they worth it. The quality is truly umatched compared to American plushies, I adore my tanuki to bits. Please get more eyes on their stuff.

Prime Shiba: Definitely a more expensive option, but I think they're cute plushies for every dog lover. Their stuff often goes on sale often so definitely take advantage of them!

Plushie Dreadfuls: You've probably seen one of their mental illness-themed bunnies before, but have you seen their Pride and Zodiac collections too? They also have many generic-looking plush if the personalization isn't up your alley! Ok so this was in my Twitter thread but apparently since then some shit has gone down with the company CEO making some offhand remarks that got misinterpreted but he acted like an ass in response to it, I recommend doing your own research on it before you buy in case that's not something you wanna support.

StrawbunnyCake: Want to go more small business? Consider supporting a fellow disabled creator, StrawbunnyCake! Their stuff is adorable, and you're sure to fall in love with their characters.

Hannimations: Also on the list of small businesses is Hannimator! Easily best known for their Pride-related Colourful Puppies/Kittens plush lines

Paleoplushies: If you're super into dinosaurs and other preshistoric animals, then Paleoplushies is sure to have something you'll like! They're all handmade by a single artist, so please show them your love and kindness

Cirquell Curiosities: Another great small business to support, most known for their high-end demon goat plushies! A lot of their stuff is one of a kind too, so they're the place to go if you're looking for a unique plush.

Snughouls: The unique and elusive Care Weres line by McMadMissile is sure to win over your heart! It originally started as just being the werewolves, but has since expanded to all kinds of demonic creatures from the Kickstarter! There's even some designs waiting to be funded!

Like, this sounds weird, but I take kid's toys really seriously. Especially plushes and dolls. Seeing both BaB and American Girl fall off this year is so fucking sad to me. I actually feel close to tears. It's stupid, I know, but we never had the money for that kind of stuff when I was a kid, then when we did get the money I was "too old," a lot of my toy knowledge is from my own research or from catalogues that would get mailed to us. I've never owned an American Girl doll but I could probably tell you a lot about them 😓 Same with Jellycats, but I did get a Jellycat back in 2023. A lot of "childish" stuff like toys or plushes or board games, or even certain cartoons, are huge special interests of mine and have been for a while....I'm just realizing this tangent is pointless and going nowhere. I'm just sad to see two once very highly respected toy companies be utterly corrupted and destroyed by capitalist greed like everything else in this world.

Oh Link my wonderful friend Link, I have so many plushies. I've been collecting them pretty consistently for the entirety of my life, it's one of my like Big Special Interests. To name them all in a single post would take me FOREVER, so I'm just gonna give you a little tour of the guys I have in my bed right now.

This is Marsh Mallow! I got her from a local lavender farm a few weeks ago. She has a velcro pouch on her stomach that holds a sachet of lavender :3

Here's Butterscotch! I had a plushie that looked just like her in like the third grade that I had donated, but I ended up missing her so much that I scoured ebay for another one like her when I realized what had happened to the original. She was kind of a nightmare to find; I didn't remember what type she was so I just had to search for brown horse plush and pray that someone out there had the same one. I found ONE listing. It was meant to be. I'm never ever getting rid of her again she's here for LIFE.

I don't have a name for this Minun just yet but my partner has the matching Plusle :3

Clefairy Squishmallow! She's from the Pokemon Center preorder thing. She's wonderful to hold. She also doesn't have a name yet.

I've had these two for as long as I can remember. The white cat is Fluffy and the brown dog is Bingo. I think they're Beanie Babies? I cut the tags off years and years ago and I still haven't found a Beanie Baby match yet so I don't know for sure. They're lesbians :)

I got this Jellycat bat from my roommate, and I still don't have a name for him, I'm open to suggestions!

This is Haze! He's from the original Careweres Kickstarter from 2022. If I were a plushie I'd look like him I think. I backed the following two Kickstarters from the same person, so soon he will have many friends :>

And last but not least here's Beetroot! I take him with me pretty much everywhere, he fits perfectly in my bag. Beetroot my beloved <3

hello! i'm not very caught up on jellycats and i have a question:

i remember some years ago the bashful reindeer's (https://www.jellycat.com/eu/bashful-reindeer-bas3rd/) page said "retired 2016" and it now says it was retired in 2022. do you know why? did it get re-released?

i'm sorry if this question is dumb, i'm just kind of new to all of this and i'd like to know ^^'

In all honesty, their retired catalogues have been very unorganized for a while, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that 2022 date is inaccurate. I’m not sure if it got re-released or not, but if you send them an email, they might be able to give you a better answer. Welcome to the community!

Anybody know how I can trick the manufacturers who make bootleg siren head, analogue horror, YouTuber, and indie video game plushies into making crying dog toy with a pocket in the ear?

(crying dog toy is public domain. This would be the only ethical thing they'd be making lol)

I seriously fell down a rabbit hole of finding these people on ebay selling bootleg rare jellycats and it just kept going. Roblox games, Mandela Catalogue, that YouTube animation about the letters of the alphabet. What the FUCK.

How can I trick them into making the crying dog? These fuckers will copy a random youtuber's makeship shark plushie for crying out loud. There's gotta be some way.

Do I need to make the crying dog go viral? Please help me.

do you know when the jellycat website updates with the new designs? and also how i find the new ones on there when it does? sorry the jellycate website is just super NOT intuitive for me but i dont trust other sites skfjvgh (in the uk if that makes a difference at all!)

no one has the slightest clue as to when they'll show up on the website! this has gotta be the messiest launch of a new collection i've ever seen from jellycat, and i would call none of the ones i've seen in the last two years smooth. i wish i had an answer for you, anon, but jellycat basically doesn't communicate with customers apart from customer service emails. and even in those emails, they aren't giving a specific date.

the current pictures of designs going around are from the catalogues which have been sent out to retailers. my wonderful friend max (@fortheloveofjellycats) has put together this google slides document with all of the new designs, and he's sourced the images from the retailers.

some websites are listing the new releases for preorder and a few are even listing them for immediate purchase, despite most reports stating that they won't be actually available to buy until october.

so yeah. definitely messy and confusing :(

Firstly, I think your dream of opening a Jellycat shop sounds amazing and I hope you keep working towards it!

Now a question: I know Jellycats are your special interest. What are your favorite things to do regarding it? Cataloguing, taking pics, collecting, scouting for retired ones... Sorry for the maybe weird question, your blog was the one that got me to know these plushies and really want to have my own :)

I think that's a really nice question that I have never actually been asked before. This may get long...

I LOVE cataloguing. Photoshoots can definitely be fun, too, though my boyfriend is usually the one who takes the photos. But I really spend most of my time cataloguing, working on my excel sheets, collecting information and facts and making sure everything is neat and in order😉 And although over the last few years my collection of Jellycats has gotten quite big, my special interest is not really about the collecting part for me. I wouldn't call myself a collector. I am most happy when I can either work on cataloguing/sorting information or when I can work on this blog. But before you think I spend all my days stuck inside, I also love going out to spot Jellycats in real life, of course! I'm always happy to find new places that sell them and maybe even get into a chat with the shop owners.

I'm glad I could introduce you to the brand and I hope you can get your very own Jellycat soon!

Jellycat Autumn/Winter Collection 2022

Hey fellow Jellycat enthusiasts! It’s no secret that the new collection has been released by stockists as of yesterday. We probably won’t get an official catalogue on the Jellycat website until September/October, so I did everyone a favor and put together a catalogue myself using Google Slides! Now no one has to scroll through blurry photos! These photos are not blurred and have the names for each design listed! I have also included a few IRL and fun catalogue photos at the end of the slideshow.

In total, there are 102 new designs, which include a few books. I’ve got a few favorites, which I will be adding photos of on the bottom of this post!

Knox Bear captured my heart the moment I saw him, he will definitely join my Jellycat family when he’s available.

Pongo Orangutan has always been one of my favorite designs, but I saw him in a store one time and his tummy was WAY too stiff. When I saw they were releasing a Huge Pongo, my hopes went up a bit, though I won’t buy him unless I see him in a store and can feel his tummy before buying him. 

Bashful Mineral Blue Bunny caught my eye; what a beautiful blue! I will be adding this lovely bunny to my bunny family!

Little Tiger is SO cute. I probably wouldn’t cuddle him bc of texture and size, but he’s a tiger so I’m very tempted. His face is very bear like too.
