Dancing With Visions - A New Side - Albedo - Jitterbug
Author Notes: This one was a bit more difficult to write simply because I don't actually have much experience with Albedo. Similarly, the Jitterbug was also a bit more difficult to write than some of the other dances have been. The dance in this fic was inspired by a Jitterbug performance by Lucille Ball and Arthur ‘King Cat’ Walsh in the “I Love Lucy” episode “Lucy Has Her Eyes Examined." If you would like to read more of this series, the fics can be found here: Dancing with Visions Masterlist.
Type: Female reader/ dance/ fluff/ sfw

I shifted slightly, bracing myself for the amount of energy I was about to use while dancing with Albedo in the competition the Knights of Favonius had set up.
I’d honestly been surprised that, out of all the dances Albedo might know how to do, he knew how to dance the Jitterbug. It had made more sense after I’d found out that he’d learned the dance because of Klee though.
A more high-energy dance would definitely be more amusing for the little girl than a slower style that would have been more what I expected from the typically relaxed alchemist.
As ever, Albedo was the picture of calm. Adjusting his gloves slightly before looking my way, “Are you ready?”
I nodded, turning to face the stage with a half-amused smile. In reality, it was Kaeya who’d tracked me down and asked if I would dance with Albedo. I’d hardly known what to think, but I’d accepted, and now here I was. Ready to perform in this show alongside Albedo.
The music started, and I began walking. Entering the view of the audience and snapping my fingers to the rhythm as Albedo walked out behind me. And we made quite the pair. Me smiling widely and him with a characteristically calm expression.
He walked over, his hands taking mine as we bee-bopped from side to side together. And I glanced over at him as our footwork gradually sped up. My eyes meeting his as I felt my smile stretch further across my face.
Unlike a lot of the ballroom styles of dancing, the jitterbug was made solely for one’s enjoyment, and I could see the small smile starting to creep across my partner’s face as our steps changed from a walking pace to one where we were hopping lightly from foot to foot.
He raised his arm, and I danced under it, ducking my head only slightly and pivoting slightly before I went in reverse, back under his arm, so we were facing one another yet again. His other hand reached out to rest against my side once more.
We both kicked out to one side and then the other at the same time. Sliding apart so that our arms stretched out between us as we continued kicking out as we danced.
He let go of one of my hands, and we pivoted. Facing the crowd and kicking out with one leg before half turning the other way.
I propped one hand on my waist as I looked back towards my partner, laughing slightly as I sashayed to the side before he broke away. Trotting away and leaving me center stage, where I pivoted. Putting my back to him before I stopped and looked down, tucking my chin to my chest.
I felt his hands rest lightly on my shoulders as he vaulted over me. Landing on the stage with a light thud that had the audience cheering as he turned to look back at me.
We dance towards one another yet again, bouncing our shoulders with each motion.
I smiled, curbing the urge to wave at Klee, whom I could see clapping in the crowd behind my partner before I glanced up. My eyes widening slightly as I noticed the creases at the corners of Albedo’s eyes as he smiled at me.
He passed by me, and I turned, following after him and kicking out at the same time as him. First with one leg and then the other as we windmilled our arms in the exaggerated motions that the jitterbug was so well known for.
It was no surprise that Klee enjoyed watching her usually poised brother dance this way. It was, in many ways, an odd sight. But it was also a nice sight. To see Albedo letting loose in such a fashion when he so often seemed serious.
We hopped lightly in place, pivoting so that he was now facing my back as we continued to kick out. Our motions smaller this time as I found myself smiling at Klee.
I turned though, immediately making eye contact with the almost painfully bright teal eyes that looked at me expectantly as I laced my fingers against the back of Albedo’s neck.
I gave one little hop, and his hands caught me at my waist. He swung me first to one side and then the other before he swung me back, and I wrapped my legs around his waist. Clinging to him like a koala as the people cheered and I leaned back. Head bobbing from side to side as he did the same.
I felt his grasp on my waist tighten ever so slightly and braced myself right as he swung me first backwards and then down between his legs so that I was laying on the stage, looking up at him.
His hands had slid up to my shoulders as he’d lowered me, though, and now they slid up my arms, stopping at my hands as he trotted backwards, pulling me up with him.
I hopped lightly to my feet, kicking my heels up in the air as one of my hands remained in his before we trotted off stage.
I was panting by the time we made it out of the view of the audience, but as I leaned forward, bracing my hands on my knees, I looked up to see a worn-out-looking Albedo, and I smiled at him, “I think Klee enjoyed that.”
He glanced over at me as soon as I spoke, a quiet smile appearing on his face as caught his breath and nodded, “So do I.”
I’d certainly seen a new side of Albedo today, but one thing that never changed was his love for his sister, for whom I honestly believed he would do anything.
And we stood there in silence, ignoring the applause that sounded from outside, smiling at each other as we caught our breath.

Blues has evolved from the unaccompanied vocal music and oral traditions of slaves imported from West Africa and rural Africans into a wide variety of styles and subgenres, with regional variations across the United States. Although blues (as it is now known) can be seen as a musical style based on both European harmonic structure and the African call-and-response tradition that transformed into an interplay of voice and guitar, the blues form itself bears no resemblance to the melodic styles of the West African griots. Additionally, there are theories that the four-beats-per-measure structure of the blues might have its origins in the Native American tradition of pow wow drumming. Some scholars identify strong influences on the blues from the melodic structures of certain West African musical styles of the savanna and sahel. Lucy Durran finds similarities with the melodies of the Bambara people, and to a lesser degree, the Soninke people and Wolof people, but not as much of the Mandinka people. Gerard Kubik finds similarities to the melodic styles of both the west African savanna and central Africa, both of which were sources of enslaved people.
Tumblr media
No specific African musical form can be identified as the single direct ancestor of the blues. However the call-and-response format can be traced back to the music of Africa. That blue notes predate their use in blues and have an African origin is attested to by "A Negro Love Song", by the English composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, from his African Suite for Piano, written in 1898, which contains blue third and seventh notes.
Tumblr media
The Diddley bow (a homemade one-stringed instrument found in parts of the American South sometimes referred to as a jitterbug or a one-string in the early twentieth century) and the banjo are African-derived instruments that may have helped in the transfer of African performance techniques into the early blues instrumental vocabulary. The banjo seems to be directly imported from West African music. It is similar to the musical instrument that griots and other Africans such as the Igbo played (called halam or akonting by African peoples such as the Wolof, Fula and Mandinka). However, in the 1920s, when country blues began to be recorded, the use of the banjo in blues music was quite marginal and limited to individuals such as Papa Charlie Jackson and later Gus Cannon.
Tumblr media
Blues music also adopted elements from the "Ethiopian airs", minstrel shows and Negro spirituals, including instrumental and harmonic accompaniment. The style also was closely related to ragtime, which developed at about the same time, though the blues better preserved "the original melodic patterns of African music"

That chicky sure can cut a rug 💃🏻 also a round of applause for Mr. King Cat Walsh.
I love the moments of I Love Lucy where her other talents peak out through the comedy. Sometimes, you have to really look, other times like in this clip they’re hard to miss. Her jitterbug is crazy!
