Imagine Karma having a bad day and a smart af reader who can see through him instantly catches on and tries to do little things to make him feel better but doesn't do anything direct bc they know that Karma isn't so great with admitting he's upset and he eventually opens up and cuddles up to them and omGHW RKSIAJWWNAOQ
KARMA X READER WHO READS HIM LIKE AN OPEN BOOK
This took like 2 weeks I’m sorry there’s so many requests 😭
Tumblr media
Karma has never been the best at hiding how he feels, it never even seems like he tries to as he’s very open and honest about what he thinks.
No one can really read him except for you.
He doesn’t know wether to think of that as a good thing or not. You understand him but is having someone like that something he wants?
He sits down next to you in the morning for first period. He came late and he has this grouchy look on his face, you ask him what’s wrong.
he brushes you off “It’s nothing, don’t worry about it.”
It was obviously something still you didn’t want to be pushy.
The rest of the day you could tell something was weighing on his mind so you made it your life’s (or days) mission to make him feel better.
You spent the rest of the day trying to cheer him up
passing him notes during class, (Korosensei sees you but doesn’t stop you from doing it when he sees Karma smiling while reading them)
Messing with him during your sparring session
“[Name] you sure you want to fight me? I’m not going easy on you.” (He totally will)
“You don’t have too! I’ve been practicing too.”
mid way the fight you realize you overestimated yourself, even with him letting you hit him it was somehow hurting you more.
“[Name] I’ve seen cats that hit harder than yo— PffttHAHAHA WHY DOES YOU TICKLING ME HURT MORE??”
you realize there was no beating him through sheer will but you did know he was ticklish and that’s a big enough weakness to exploit.
You were also just being extra corny all day just for the sake of it
“This (love) song reminds me of you.”
“[name] that’s so chessy it’s gross.” he says trying to hide the smile creeping up his face
You went to his house to hang out for a while
“Karma, let’s watch [insert really overrated action move]!”
“I thought you said you didn’t want to last time.”
“You like it right? I want to watch something you like.”
His heart exploded right then and there. How could someone be so sweet without realizing it
mid way through the movie his spirits seemed raised so you ask.
“Karma do you mind me asking why you were upset today?”
“t’s really nothing I’m surprised you could even tell. No one else said anything.”
“I just pay extra attention to you, they didn’t say anything cause you have resting bitch face”
“Obsessed much?”
“As if! seriously though, what happened?” You had to push further for him to admit anything actually happened
“I just got into a fight with some stupid guy”
“Really? That’s it? You get into fights like everyday.”
“It’s a long story. Him and his friends were talking about you and it really set me off because I’d already had a shitty morning— my parents called to tell me they already made plans to travel to New York after they told me they’d stay here for atleast a month?”
“Oh wow- I’m sorry Karma, I know they promised and everything.”
“Yeah. Uhm sorry— I didn’t mean to unload that much.”
(Sorry??? He says sorry??)
“Huh? You don’t have to apologize, I want to know these things cause I care.”
“Oh. Thanks [name], you’re the only person I’d ever tell these things too.”
“Whys that?”
“I trust you too much, who knows when you’ll blackmail me with this.”
“Blackmail is your thing not mine!”
“Mhm, that’s what a blackmailer would say. Anyways let’s finish the movie the best part is coming up!”
“I was hoping you forgot we were watching that snooze fest.”
“In what world is [super mega overrated action movie] a snooze fest??“
“Do you hear yourself right now..?”
“You don’t see me complaining when you make me watch those romance dramas you like.”
“What are you saying, you never shut up about how unrealistic the scenes are.”
“Cause they ARE— in what world do guys get in car crashes, stay in mid air for 5 minutes and look good while doing it??”
“…in what world does an antihero ninja go around fighting people to save humanity.”
“To be fair we’re trying to kill an alien octopus to save the world from exploding these days.”
“Yeah.. if you asked me a year ago which of these events were most likely to happen I wouldn’t have guessed alien octopus world explosion.”
“Right, to be honest the car accident in true beauty seems fairly realistic in comparis- [Name] LOOK THATS THE SCENE!”
in the end you fell asleep on the floor together when you woke up he complained about how you slept though it. (He fell asleep 5 minutes after you.)

idk if you're currently taking requests or if you've already done this idea before but I just thought about it and directly thought of you anyway
what if reader's dealer is currently out of city so they send her to get whatever thing she usually takes to one of his trusted dealer friends, the og dealers friend being dealer!remus and like reader doesn't know bc it's the first time she buys from him but turns out she's the sister of one of his friends (idk which one it free for you to choose lmao) and obv she doesn't want her brother knowing abt her little drug secret so she makes a deal (like agree to go on a date w him or smth)with dealer!remus so he doesn't snitch on her.
I hope that was clear enough cuz in my head it sounds as clear as day but k just realised this request is so messy I'm so sorry luv u xx
i get what you mean babe! it isn’t messy at all! cw: bbf!dealer!remus, a little bit of anxiety,
you can’t believe your luck when you get to the dispensary and see remus.
your belly is swimming with anxiety but you know you can’t back out now. you’re the only one in and his soft, “i’ll be a second.” is making your heart race.
“fuck,” you whisper, fingers wringing each other as you approach him. “hey remmy.”
he turns around with record speed and shakes his head at you.
“you’re not here to pick up the cookies are you, dove?”
you really wish you weren’t right now.
“if i say ‘no’, will you still give it to me and not tell sirius?”
remus gives you a gentle smile. out of all of sirius’ friends, you and remus were the closest. he always had your back and was always interested in what you did.
you watched a new movie? remus would love to hear about it. read a new book? give remus a review so he can read it too.
you were almost a little bit closer than him and sirius but that was partly because you and remus danced around the fact that you liked each other more than friends.
“do i get to know how long you’ve been partaking?”
you sigh, digging at your cuticles making remus frown. he reaches for your hands and squeezes them.
“about two years? maybe a little longer?”
he only nods, not wanting to say anything that can be interpreted as judgement.
“but no one knows rem. siri can’t find out- he’ll lose his shit.” you say and remus sighs.
sirius might lose his shit. he might not. he might lose his shit specifically if remus sells to you.
“we can make a deal okay? so he doesn’t find out.” you nod, hands shaking in remus’ and he really feels bad that your other dealer bailed.
but he also feels like this is a good time to act on his feelings for you. this predicament gives him an easy way into confessing and he can’t deny the opportunity.
“what kind of deal, remmy?”
he kisses your knuckles, “we’re gonna go out tomorrow night. someplace nice, just me and you. okay?”
you frown. “what kind of deal is that remmy? you don’t really get anything from that.”
remus chuckles, “of course i do, dove. i get the evening with you, in that pretty dress you bought last week.”
you give him a bashful smile and remus knows he’a on the right track.
“just me and you? and you don’t tell anyone?”
“my lips will be sealed. oh, and another thing,” you wait with baited breath as he leans over the counter into your space a little, “no going back to your other dealer.”
you nod, your eyes flitting to remus’ lips and then his eyes again. “no going back to my other dealer.” you repeat and he smiles, kissing your cheek before pulling away.
“let me bag up your cookies, dovey.”

why i actually feel bad for kyle (FROM THE VAULT [2020])
Tumblr media
I definitely do feel bad for Kyle, I really do. Bc he probably has one of the most difficult home lives of the boys and that’s why he acts the way that he does, and that’s what makes him a more sympathetic and complex character. First of all I think a big reason why Kyle always feels like he has to preach to everyone constantly is because he feels misunderstood and like he’s not being listened to. And this has been shown A LOT. Kyle’s parents hardly ever take the time to sit down and talk with him about stuff, they’re usually just very cold with him or they try to help him by preaching logic and facts about the world down his throat (which is why Kyle kind of does that to everyone else bc it’s what he was taught). Like he never gets to have a heart to heart with his parents. And I think the South Park movie is the best example of how neglectful Sheila is and how she doesn’t listen to Kyle. Throughout the entire movie, she went bat shit insane trying to start a war with Canada and every single time Kyle tried to get a word in with her about how he felt she just shrugged him off. So Kyle reacts by shouting everything he thinks and feels at everyone else hoping they’ll listen and validate him. And his parents are also just really hard on him and strict with him in general, which is why Kyle feels like he has to be a “good boy”. I’m sure the reason why Kyle is so smart and hardworking and does well in school and everything is because his parents push him to, so Kyle never really gets to let loose and have fun and shit because he’s probably always worried he’s gonna get in trouble. And a big part of why Kyle is so smart and woke about shit that goes on in the world is because we see his parents preaching their liberal beliefs a lot to him throughout the show (I mean his dad is a lawyer). It’s been shown that Ike is this child prodigy and they make him read books and shit, but I’m sure they probably raised Kyle similarly. And this is why Kyle is always soooooo concerned about morals and doing the “right” thing and he projects those beliefs onto everyone else, because it’s really the only way he knows how to live and he gets soooo offended when he sees other kids who actually do know how to chill out and have fun that aren’t as uptight as him. He was taught to live cautiously, safe, and ethically, so when he sees anyone else dare to break the rules or go against authority he freaks the fuck out. And we’ve talked before about how Kyle is really just jealous of Cartman. And you know why? Because Cartman is pretty much the complete opposite, Cartman has a mom that’s way too nice and she lets Cartman do whatever the fuck he wants. I’m sure Kyle wishes he had that much freedom. But anyways another thing about Kyle’s home life is the fact that his parents are always making Kyle look after Ike when they don’t feel like dealing with him. Ike is like a fucking toddler, (I think he went into preschool later on but whatever) it’s hard enough for an ADULT to deal with a toddler, but putting that responsibility on a 4th grade kid? This is definitely how Kyle developed his martyr complex, he always feels like he has to look out for others before himself because he’s used to having to take care of Ike. (And I’m sure having to deal with his mom’s outbursts is like dealing with a toddler too DHSJSKKS). But this is all why Kyle is such a neurotic scrooge, I mean if you had to deal with all of this shit all the time you would feel anxious and alone too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yeah, this is the only time i’ve ever been nice to kyle and easy on him lol

No bc what if Snow’s hatred and realization of Katniss’ power started before the berries? Think about it.
The obvious, shooting an arrow at the game makers. All of them thought about how cool it was, blah blah blah, but what if Snow looked at that and saw Sejanus? Sejanus, throwing a chair at the screen when they brought out Marcus, his dead friend. And Sejanus was raised capitol. And he didn’t have a romance going on.
Snow knew the potential that Katniss had, if she saw something unfair. He heard about the tribute who was in love, who was causing a ruckus in the training room, and he knew what that led too because he’s seen it. He wasn’t as worried about Peeta because he didn’t have the same fire that snow himself once had in him. He knew how people swooned for a love story (director people being romantics, saying he cheated in the games for love and letting him off the bad hook), and the power Katniss would have if she turned rebel.
Second reason, which is way less obvious. MEADOW SONG. Lucy Gray didn’t sing it at the Hob. She only sang it on television, and to her family. And Dr. Gaul said that she had destroyed every last tape of it, save for one for herself. And how easy would that have been for him to get and destroy, especially once he had killed her (which I believe he definitely did, but that’s unrelated. Mostly).
Katniss sang the meadow song. The meadow song, which has only one (possibly destroyed copy) of it on record. So where else would she have learned it? Someone connected to Lucy Gray. Snow is terrified of anyone coming back from that part of his past to haunt him. He now knows Katniss is somehow connected/related to Lucy Gray, the girl who nearly shook his entire value system and made him rethink everything (just like Katniss did with Panem, btw).
Snow knows how dangerous this girl is. He knows what she could do with her power, but he has to make sure the country doesn’t know what she has because they will be the ones giving it to her. He has to make sure the (possibly STILL ALIVE at that point (he probably checked she wasn’t during his visit before the quarter quell)) Lucy Gray didn’t know how dangerous she was.
That’s why he had her dress up. Not to make her seem like a lovesick schoolgirl, but a harmless lovesick schoolgirl. One with no fire in her. Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire, extinguished, along with any trace of rebellion. The capitol and all of panem has seen her strategies, her brutality, and her soft side. They can’t be fooled by dresses, unless Katniss believes she can fool them through dresses.
It’s so many layers. The capitol people at the bottom, who needed no convincing. Then the district people, who wouldn’t be able to afford to not care about how Katniss saw herself. If they saw Katniss seeing herself as unfit for the rebellion, they would too, thus eliminating any chance of it (to Snow). Next, Katniss. She thinks she knows why she has to wear the stupid dresses. She thinks she knows her power if she stayed strong, and she must do everything in her power not to do that. But she doesn’t understand the extent of it (until the tour and uprisings in 8).
Snow knows ALL of this. He made the layers, separating them. He perfected it and he is all around it. He knows what each layers thinking, because he has thought it too. He’s thought it all through, all the steps, all the layers, and he only has one conclusion; Snow lands on top.
As always thank you for reading this if you did! And I truly did mean to make this bosas analysis short, but as you can see it is not (unless you compare it to my others). What’s amazing to me is the last line in this, the snow lands on top. Because so far you are thinking about how it’s Katniss’ actions and Snow’s reactions, but he’s kind of on top of it all in the end. This whole post was about him, and that’s also sort of a metaphor for the books themselves. How Katniss was the main character of the rebellion, but Snow/Coin were the real ones behind the rebellion (both sides). Just brain candy, yk?

I can understand reading a novel and not resonating with certain characters. I can understand reading a novel and flat out hating characters. We all have a right to dislike whoever we want to, there’s nothing wrong with that.
But the amount of hate elain gets is funny to me. People argue that she’s boring, doesn’t do anything, is useless. All while sitting alone in their bedrooms writing think pieces on tumblr about romance novels (self call out as well).
It’s so easy to fall in love with the characters who seem larger than life. Their bravery, their resolve, their fearless drive to dive head first into danger in the name of good. I love those characters too. Their arcs drive epic stories and lay a path for good, juicy conflict.
But I don’t understand how people don’t relate to the ordinary, insanely “human” (for lack of a better word) characters. The ones who go through all of that insane juicy conflict beside the larger than life characters and it’s just a little too fucking much for them. Who need some room to breathe. Who “haven’t done shit” yet bc it would simply be bad writing to have a huge character arc for someone who isn’t yet the main character of one of the novels. I know a lot of this is just me, I know there are amazing, brave, larger than life people in everyday life all around us. But I just don’t understand how we can’t have some empathy for a girl who’s probably more like a lot of us than anyone else in the books. And I don’t mean in terms of personality, but just like a regular person who derives joy from their hobbies, obviously loves their family and friends and has dreams to travel and see new things. (I also don’t think this is where elain’s story is going, the groundwork for something absolutely epic for her is there and I’m excited for her to do it in her OWN way)
Absolute fearlessness and physical strength are not the only traits that make a character redeemable to me. There is a world of complexity in all kinds of people, and exploring each individual facet of all of that is the heart in each story that I fall in love with.

i read Teacher's Pet and i loved it!!! i adore the way they are with each other!!! you are so talented and i am in awe of what your writing does to me. i mean ofc it's hotter than hell and has us all giggling and wanting more. you're that good! it's also encouraging, and soothing. healing. your joel is so open and comforting. the way it's easy to be naked, emotionally and physically, in front of him, and the way he encourages reader, put her at ease, makes her laugh, is bringing a lot of comfort to me. i hope you know your fic is helping a lot of us feel proud of our body and the way we are, accepting even, little by little, and that is priceless to me. so, thank you for your beautiful words and for the feelings that will surely find home in my brain and remind me that i am good the way i am on days when i feel like i am lacking in everything and every single insecurity takes over. i'm sending you all the forehead kisses and boundless creative inspiration and all the time in the world to do what you love✨️🥹
ok so the sentimental part is over can we now talk about my favourite parts?
And it doesn't hurt that he's objectively attractive, with his tall and sturdy frame, strong, calloused hands, dark messy curls....It's not a bad idea.
It's an absolutely insane idea.
i was like YES BITCH!! I'M IN FULL SUPPORT!! SAY IT BB
"How drunk are you?" he asks, glancing at the beer bottle on the coffee table.
"You saw me finish one bottle. And half of another. I’m barely tipsy."
"Not drunk?”
"Nope."
"You're gonna remember this tomorrow."
"Uh huh."
"And you still want to?"
I LOVE HIM AND I'LL SCREAM ABOUT IT
It's nothing like the kisses in the movies or the books, where fireworks explode behind your eyelids or where your foot pops up in the air. It's far more subdued, more quiet and subtle. But the warmth that pools low in your belly and the goosebumps that erupt on your skin when his tongue slides against the seam of your lips, light and quick, makes you absolutely melt.
your writing!! it sure does make me melt
His lips find yours again, and you try not to smile into the kiss but it's hard when you can feel the way his lips are quirked up as well. It doesn’t take much else to get you to relax and let yourself fall into the moment, into the gentle press of his mouth and the warm hands on your hip and your cheek.
the number of times i reread this—
i would put more but i feel like this ask is getting too long and i don't wanna bother you and make you read a novel but their banter, every single instance of it is also my favourite
him being so soft and gentle with her while absolutely destroying ME is also my favourite
also, i hope you know we're putting you in JAIL for putting us in reader's shoes and letting us attend joel miller's sex class
excuse me while I FUCKING SOB OH MY GODDD!!!!!
not even exaggerating this is one the nicest things anyone has ever said to me in my entire life what the helll 😭😭😭😭
(had to add a cut bc I rambled a bit )
One of my main goals as a writer (aside from making everyone horny) is to create stories that readers can make genuine connections to and find pieces of themselves in. Hearing the impact that my silly little story has had on you, how my words have provided you with comfort, encouragement, and a positive reflection on self-acceptance is truly mind-blowing and so incredibly fulfilling. 🥹🥹😭
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feelings and sentiments and your favorite parts of the story. You are truly such an angel. This seriously made my day (maybe my whole entire life??) and just like my stories for you, this message will stick with me to remember whenever I feel inadequate as a writer. It’s messages like these keep writers going. 🩷🩷🩷
Sending you so much love and I’ll see you at the next session of Mr. Miller's class 😉🩷

Reading QOTD post! I’ve only got two chapters left to finish this thing… the story has picked back up again and I’ll probably finish today but had some things I wanted to post about. In sum it’s gotten interesting again but also Anne says some very wild things about the global south that takes me out of the story.
Thoughts and spoilers under the cut.
Cw: mentions of rape
Finished the story of the twins conclusion chapter…
The story picked back up again!! Khayman keeps proving himself a horrible character!! And Anne should never write about non-Western countries ever!! Let the book speak for itself…
Quotes that made me write ??? in the margins:
Lestat, reading the mind of one of the men he’s about to kill.
“And a savage hatred of the women rose out of him, replete with images of rape and retribution that made me smile, and yet I understood. Rather completely I understood. So easy to feel that contempt for them, to be outraged that they had dared to become the enemy, (…) they, the women!”
Khayman when the King and Queen are getting attacked by villagers + spirits, who at this point supposedly hates them for making him rape the twins:
“It was Khayman, loyal steward to the King and Queen, who snatched up a torch and went to the aid of his master and mistress.”
Lestat, about the indigenous Haitians meeting European colonizers:
“Not a single blood descendant remains of those peaceful beings who had breathed this balmy air, (…), and thought their visitors gods perhaps, who could not but return their kindness.”
Lestat, talking about how Akasha would need the help of other vamps to fulfill her vision:
“How can you begin without them? I mean really begin, not with these backward villages, I mean in the cities where the people will fight.”
And again:
“…those poor villages we’ve conquered, they are the same as they’ve been for thousands of years.”
Those poor villages are hopeless and unimportant, got it, thanks Lestat/Anne.
Maharet talking about Mekare being in South America:
“Centuries perhaps before man had penetrated the southern reaches of the jungle continent, Mekare had come ashore there (…). How long had she wandered among birds and beasts before she’d seen a human face? Had it been centuries, or millennia, this inconceivable isolation? Or had she found mortals at once to comfort her, or run from her in terror?”
Included that last part in the quote bc it’s as if Maharet hadn’t just said that first part of how, according to her, South America was uninhabited for centuries after the time of the twins.
Anyway, I did like the part where Maharet tells them all about The Great Family, and all the vamps are moved. It is moving, to see that after all the Twins and their people have been through, their family survived. (Let us forget about the marrying within the families part).
The Story of the Twins Conclusion chapter ends with Lestat arriving at the house, meaning that the Queen is probably also there.
They are going to try and reason with the Queen to convince her that what she’s doing is bad or whatever (which obviously it is, she’s bringing more death and destruction to places already riddled with it in order to create an empire of her own) in a way that Lestat was unable to articulate. Obviously it is clear at this point that she doesn’t actually care about ridding the world of oppression etc but I don’t like how the “moral of the story” for lack of better term is going to be like “this is why we should not interfere with human problems” or what Lestat pretty much said already, that the poor and war torn countries have always been that way and there’s nothing to do to change it, it’s just how the world works. When actually what Akasha says is so true —>
Lestat thinks that all the tragedies that Haiti has faced is “their destiny; their world; they who are human”. And Akasha replies:
“And what are we? Are we useless? How do we justify what we are! How do we stand back and watch what we are unwilling to alter?”
But Akasha is evil and a liar so… I doubt there will be a VC character who thinks this and actually believes it unfortunately…
Anyway, very excited to be done with this one and move on to the next. I am so determined to get to at least TVA before May 12th but given the pace at which I have read this book… i might be delusional lol.
Bonus prediction:
This might be like obvious at this point but I think the way they are going to kill Akasha without killing themselves is by having Amel transfer to Lestat. Is this why he’s like for real called the prince later? Probably.

I think something very important that I have not thought about until right now is that Crowley knows the bullshit because he’s been a part of it.
In Hell before his “retirement” he was a chaos bringer, a mischief maker. Yes they had the Arrangement, but they did not collaborate on every single project. They were not put in the same place 100% of the time. He has to drive through a wall of fire because his own plan to make the M25 impossible to leave bit him in the ass. Not only was he Doing The Job of a demon, even if he tried hard not to be too Evil about it, he did well enough to earn the honor of delivering the Antichrist to his destination. Crowley might not have been a Duke of hell or besties with Satan (in the show I have not read the book I really think I should bc I love having all the lore) but he was the demon stationed in London causing trouble and had been possibly the main demon on earth for a long time.
Aziraphale on the other hand?
His bookshop is seen as, at best, a meeting hub for angels and at worst a joke. Gabriel questions him about eating which isn’t bad on its own but it’s very “Aziraphale the weird angel is eating food”. Nobody takes him seriously, he’s dismissed and ignored, they think his ideas are stupid. They Punch Him In The Stomach and he’s called useless or something to that effect when he accidentally goes to Heaven and loses his corporation. They hate him. To the point of finding joy in his death.
And here comes the mouth of God telling him that HE is the perfect Angel to take over for Gabriel. The supreme archangel of all Heaven. The one who went out of his way time and again to belittle him. Aziraphale? Replace him? And he can bring Crowley along? They can be safe from Hell and make Good changes and stay together? People will actually listen to him and take him seriously? He can leave behind his bookshop if it means taking Crowley and fixing Heaven. He can leave earth if he gets to have those things.
Because he’s never been Important before. He’s never had anyone from his own side give him a fucking complement in 6000 years. God asked him about the flaming sword Once and then Never Spoke To Him Again. Crowley seems to be the only one giving him compliments that he takes to heart. Maggie calls him an angel for being nice but he knew he did the no rent thing for selfish reasons. Crowley tells him he did a good job investigating and he’s all smiles and happy wiggles. He has never had anyone from his side be fucking nice to him and now the literal Headhancho is promoting him.
And for Crowley it’s easy to turn down. He knows Heaven is shit and he knows Hell doesn’t give a damn bc he’s experienced it before. Hell doesn't care how the job gets done and Heaven can’t see outside of its own ass and doesn't care about the Right thing. They don’t care about humans as people. They are set dressing to their own war not a creation of God that they should observe and care about. They want souls, they want to Win this little game that they SAY God wants them to play. And maybe She does, but maybe She’s Wrong. But regardless they don’t care about anything Real. But Aziraphale does. Crowley does.
And in an isolated incident yeah it might be out of character for Aziraphale to seemingly regress. But that’s not what happens. He’s not interested in joining Heaven as part of the cog again. He doesn’t want to be the universal punching bag anymore. He likes his independence and his records and his freedom. He doesn’t want to be just the weird little Angel everyone hates. But the Metatron is offering him a sort of protection. He’s being appointed by someone high up, given a role that is seemingly untouchable. They can’t hit the supreme archangel. They can’t mock his choice of company if he’s in charge. And it’s all fake it’s all lies he’ll no doubt be just a figurehead with a fancy title. But right now it’s all real to him.
So he says yes. Not because he’s fallen back onto his old ways, not really, but because he really thinks this is Better. Being involved to fix the community vs running away from it and risk being hunted down Again. They found him because he’s at the bookshop but they’re angels. If they want to find him or Crowley they will. This is everything he’s ever hoped for with the added bonus of not being on opposite sides anymore. Because they still are to everyone else. An Angel and demon are still an Angel and a demon to the outside world. Angels can find Aziraphale and demons can find Crowley and the other side can threaten the other and.
If they’re both in Heaven they won’t need to do that. So he says yes, because he wants to. But also… how do you say No to an offer like that? Someone else already said it but it’s Coffee or Death. Become the new archangel or say No to the closest thing to God after already being threatened time and again. Nobody would pick death.
People are Predictable.

Response to an aggressive post.
User @toaster-trash made a post basically to mock and attack me with fallacies bc I disagree with them, so I'll make this post to reply since replying to their own post would be giving them reblogs and promoting their toxic behavior that is fulled by their followers.
You open the post by saying that you had a bad week and that you are pity. Sorry you feel that way or someone make u feel that way and that ur week was bad, but this is not relevant to the argument, is just a falacy of emotion. I disagree with you and u made a tantrum. You first of all don't know what is text and what is disidentification, also called misrecogition. which is enough to call out your post as having zero relevance. But given you are just a misguided person i will continue.
You said "we’ve got to decipher because English apparently isn’t this person’s forte for someone who is, apparently, such an avid reader and esteemed critic of English literature". So you mocking my english, doing ad hominem fallacy, that's sad. Then you keep the shitty tone saying that, according to you i am an "avid reader and esteemed critic of English literature". So you are literally need to mock bc i disagree with you, and u have to put me in a fake altar that i didn't put my self, u are trying to look pity. U tried to attack me by impliying that i feel myself some sort of academic or authority figure bc is more easy to use the apeal to pity. All this is ad hominem fallacy (an attempt to invalidate an opponent’s position based on a personal trait or fact about the opponent rather than through logic), a straw men fallacy, and appeal to pity fallacy . You are not a fighter for saying u embrace ur petiness, at countrary, is like when dude bros are reactionary.
"Wonder what kind of backup they’ll have for that argument." The whole book. We literally have the whole book. When u tell basically that nothing matter bc we are on tumblr, and that"Who actually gives a flying fuck? I don’t.", but then rant in a angry post.
The whole paragraph of "autistics have always existed and ppl can see themselves in old texts" is trying to fight an imaginary comment that i didn't make bc I didin't said that we can't see ourselves in the texts, I said that Victor is not autistic. You read in a wrong way my comment and create from the thin air that I think (which i don't) that we can't see things that reminded us of our experiences. One thing is text, and other is desidentification.
"Just because in the 18th century people didn’t necessarily have the language for things doesn’t mean they didn’t exist". I didn't say that we didn't exist, so u are lying, and saying fallacies.
"do we have to revert back to speaking in early 19th century English every time we want to refer to a character who was written back then as neurodivergent or lgbt or anything else??" Fallacy again. I didn't say we need to speak in 19th century English when talikng about texts from that period. You are going off topic, going on a tangent of your own making to attack. You constantly deviate from the argument you intend to make because you know deep down that you are wrong. We've always been around, no one is saying the countrary. I find your attacks disrespectful.
"I can’t even be bothered to explain and to be honest every single other person I’ve said “Frankenstein is autistic to” has immediately responded “oh yeah, obviously” U can't bothered yet u make a post in which u bothered, and really lack of evidence. U are doing desidentification, nothing else, which is not bad, is valid, but is wrong and shitty when u need to make reactionary posts bc I disagree with you and u keep telling Victor is autistic and gay even when what u mean is desidentification and giving no actual text evidence, you are just giving opinions. I don't think Mary would had made Victor gay and as a blatant representation of Percy if he were gay (or queer) bc at the time that would have been like putting a bulleye in Percy's back and I don't think she wanted him hanged.
You keep saying that "what’s the harm in reading him that way?", but really keep writing in the whole post that is not a opinion, but text. I repeat, you need to understand the diference. You can feel that a characters speaks to you, but that doesn't make the character be autistic or gay nor both. You want to see yourself? support and read books about bisexual people wrote by bisexual writers.
"Also, they’re cousins/adopted siblings. If you don’t think that’s fucked up, even by the standards of the time, I’m not really sure what to say to you." Was that someting discused in your post? no, it wasn't, and that it was something that happened back then dosen't make it ok or make me agree with it. "If you don't think", well, we never discused it, it never appeared in the original post so u don't asked nor i speak about it or my opinion about it. I find it fucked up. Not part of the argument still, u just implying with no evidence that maybe im ok with it. More fallacies on your part and deviations from the argument.
You bring up The Vampyre, written by Polidori. It's not on topic, is not even part of the books that the Creature reads. The Vampyre was one of the texts that took place during the famous stay at Byron's mansion, where he, Polidori, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, and Percy Shelly went. The Vampyre is based on the nasty Byron who treated Polidori (and a lot of other ppl) badly. Everyone in the group considered Byron to a greater or lesser extent as an unpleasant, petulant, egotistical man and that he believed that he could do whatever he wanted just by having money, being a man and being famous. You know who else was like pretty much like that? Percy Shelly and too many other writers of that time, and anything of this makes Victor gay, it just shows that Polidori and Shelly could draft bad men indifferent to women and others for disinterest, lack of empathy, and patriarchal behavior. Even if Percy was gay (I say gay in place of queer bc is what u say, he could had been pan for all matters), that doesn't make Victor gay. If Mary would wanted to make an statement on bad gay men in Frankenstein she would had make Clerval a copy of Byron or being pretty explicit about it.
"For one thing, just the fact that he’s so particular about creating “the perfect man” is subject to a lot of queer readings in itself". Head canons, personal readings, valid ways, but not text. Victor don't care about his girlfriend and future wife bc he cares only about himself and his fantasies of power and be superior to others and god. You can say that u feel some queer element, but not that Victor is gay. Victor is deeply mysoginistic and patriarcal, he wants to create the perfect man bc he don't think women are any ideal being, is infered that he finds them inferior, and that only the man can be perfect. For him, then, only a man can create perfection bc is not a women. Only a man, that is seen as logic, no controled by his emotions like women, and all that mysoginistic shit, can make the perfect human which is, of course, a man. Shelly show us that society by killing a mother, a bride, a maid, a little girl. In patriarcal society the norm is being homo afective, all must love men, specially men bc they see themselves as perfect and better than everyone else. That a society encourages that men see the world througth patriarcal lents don't make all men gay. Clerval makes us see how bad Victor was by contrast and how his behavior led Clerval and all the other characters to die. Mary W. S. portrait (we could say in some degree) her feelings about Percy and their situation in Elizabeth Lavenza and her interactions with Victor and other characters. Clerval can be seen not as the love interest of Victor, but as the type of friend that Mary would liked that Percy had bc non of his friends cared about her really nor cared well for him. Let's remember that Byron was ok with Percy leaving Mary, who recently loss a child and was deeply depresed and in bad health in general, going on a boat even when he didn't knew how to swimm and ended with Percy dead. Victor, as Percy, prefered men over women bc mysoginia, not bc he was gay. We really need to stop this idea and reading, this troop of gay men been bad like if it was bc they are gay and not bc they are men in a patriarcal society.
U are just driven by ur opinions and who you want to be gay, and not about the text. You are just reaaaally angry and frustrated, and even go to my archives to seek for a Frankestein quote bc to this point you can't really make a solid argument. You just keep off topic and even bring other arguments that no one is making bc you know that you are wrong. We need to deal with the fact that not everything has queer text or subtext. Life and literature is not a shitty tv show that makes queer baiting for u to love, sometimes characters will not represent you. Is hard to accept, but is true, and that's why there are tons of queer novels and libraries that just sell that books. We can't keep to see ourselves in media created by people that is not from our communities and that lived centuries ago. We need that gay men write about gay men, trans ppl about trans ppl, bisexual ppl about bisexual ppl, etc.
"“Victor is sexist for cutting women out of the creation process” takes – Christ that’s just gross. And feels mildly if not explicitly homophobic" No one is talking about that, why you try to talk about being homphobic from a quote that, apparently, i guess, point to the misogynistic aspect of Victor? from who is that quote? bc is not mine, i didn't put it in your post, so I don't know why are u using it. You set a quote for a discussion that is irrelevant that I did not say in your post, but that you want to make believe that I said or that I agree or that it is about the topic we are talking about, that victor is not being gay or autistic. Don't make sense. Why is homophobic that quote that u take from who knows where, huh? doesn't make sense unless you want to say that gay men can have kids, and that other ppl besides cis women can have kids which is true, but we are not talking about gay people having kids, nor trans ppl having kids, nor enby ppl having kids.
I think is important to add that Victor was a cruel father to the Creature and Mary Shelly knew too many bad fathers, like her own father (her mother died), she felt abandoned. Percy abandoned all his children as well basically constantly abandoned Mary. Victor don't make a human, a man, bc gay feelings, he did so bc he was a bad men full hybris, misogynia, patriarchy. Victor created a child and then abandoned them as all men in Mary's life did with their own. In the novel women are just a few, but are the ones that cared about children, wellbeing, and life in general, but then they die. Victor cared more about men (father, professor, friend) than about women.
Is worth noticing that Mary believd in free love and was also queer as many of her friends so why would she portrait Victor as an evil gay men? doesn't make sense that she make him a gay that created life bc wants a gay couple or whatever if we try to follow the claim of the tumblr user. She would make the Creature for what? if he already had Clerval, his very best friend? if Victor loved Clerval, then how is the Creature a gay thing? like Toaster could have made other points, but didn't bc their claim is just an opinion without arguments. The Creature didn't have a mother only a father that rejected them but also molded them with the books that were from Victor. Mary didn't have a mother, and was formed by her father and their books, but was rejected by her father. We can say that Mary was the Creature, as we know that the 3 books mentioned that the Creature read were read also by Mary; Lost Paradise (about the pain of Lucifer being rejected by his father god and that the Creature also see themselves in Adam being rejected by god too), Wherter (about an unrequited love between a boy and a girl that end in the young men killin himself), and Lifes (Plutarch wrote bios comparing lives of famous Greeks with those of famous Romans from were the Creature learned about ethics, wrong and virtue). See how the Creature is not a methaphor or reference to gay love?
You constantly and in all the post tried to shift focus by introducing an irrelevant point, mislead, make false dilemas, appeal to ignorance, say or imply inaccurate things and do hasty generalizations for the lack of evidence and that the whole novel don't support your opinions. Your really fell in all the fallacies, including the circular one bc ur whole post is basically "Victor is autistic and gay bc I think victor is autistic and gay". You even did the pity fallacy at the begining. You tried to cherry-picking info, but that didn't even work bc didn't make sense with the real discusion, just with the ones u put to distract, and not even for that worked.
You are just unable to have a real argument, you don't want to admit that you are just complaining bc you didn't liked i disagree with you and can't deal with your feelings and a bad week nor you know how to channel that anger, frustration, and tiredness in a way that is not being a little troll of internet basically. You have nothing. But you can learn to do something about your angry issues and your reactionary behaviour, talk to someone about it, you gonna feel better than having a little validation of reblogs that will not hug you when u feel bad, nor make u a happy person, nor growing up to be a person that is fine with their life. Ur angry mutuals that only validate ur attacks or anger don't want you to be happy or fine, just that yall keep feeling miserable. Being a reactionary troll is just gonna make u feel more alone and angry with yourself and everyone, not making people be part of your life in a good positive way that makes you feel loved.
Edit: i added two paragraphs.

back on my bullshit again - i have 2 audiobooks on my libby app rn, all systems red and graceling, and my brain is stuck in compare and contrast mode, so hot take.
murderbot and katsa (from graceling) would get along like a house on fire
i mean. the parallels. the autistic coding. the gnc vibes. the capability of incredible violence coupled with the reluctance to use it. the fear of being forced to use that violence unwillingly (again) due to past trauma. fuck.
im listing all the parallels i noticed under the cut bc this is going to be a long one
*disclaimer: I love the murderbot audiobooks. the graceling audiobook can choke - they do not do it justice. my standards are probably way too high tho lol i’ve been reading and rereading graceling for like a decade*
the line that sparked this connection is from graceling - katsa and po are talking about her grace, and she says she hasn’t helped as many lives as she’s hurt, and he says “you have the rest of your life to tip the balance”
like. if that doesn’t capture mb’s vibe idk what does.
here’s the list
autistic coding. we all know mb is autistic, but katsa show so many signs of it that are easy to miss if you’re not looking for it but once you see it you can’t unsee it.
I made a whole other post about it but I mean - sensory issues, not picking up on social cues, bluntness, it’s all there baby.
plus katsa and mb are equally bad at identifying their own emotions and what they want (big picture).
they both have relationships with gender and sexuality than differ from the norms of the societies they’re in
obviously their relationships to gender are wildly different, but both differ from societal gender perception in-universe. katsa is seen as odd for her short hair, pants, and rejection of the societal expectation of women to get married and have kids. her relationship with Po is unique, and negotiated on their terms, not dictated by societal norms. meanwhile murderbot’s experience of gender and sexuality is inherently tied to its identity as a construct, and while i’m sure there are agender aroace humans in universe, mb repeatedly ties its identity to being a construct, like saying ‘constructs have less than null interest in humans or any other kind of sex’ instead of just ‘i have no interest in sex’
they’re both really, really good at fighting and killing people, but they choose to use that capability to protect their friends and the people they love.
they learn that they aren’t just made for killing, that they can do so much more, and that they can find a place for themselves where they’ll be safe, independent, doing work they like, and that they have friends who know what they are and aren’t afraid.
For a long time they were under the control of a greedy, corrupt authority, which forced them to enact senseless violence. They’re both conflicted about the things they were forced to do, and harbor serious guilt and self-loathing about it, but over the course of the book begin to heal and acknowledge their pasts while working to take control over their future.
both have serious issues and trauma related to losing control over mind and body - mb with its governor module, katsa with randa’s threats and leck’s grace. they will do anything to never feel like that again.
in fact, at some point both of them say something along the lines of “I want to keep my mind my own” - mb with “the inside of my mind had been my own for 35,000+ hours...I wanted to keep me the way I was” and when katsa is fighting with po when he first reveals his grace, she says “what thoughts of mine have you stolen?” and “It’s easy for you to say. You’re not the one whose thoughts are not your own!”
they both make friends with someone who is “like them,” (ART is another bot and Po is another Graceling), but whose skills complement their own and who share common interests, but come at them from new and interesting viewpoints. (ART learns to like media, but it’s a bigass spaceship that has wildly different perspectives on things than mb does, and Po’s great at fighting, but in a different way and for a very different reason than Katsa).
They spend a long time sharing these interests (watching media/training), until something external happens, and there’s a betrayal of some kind that they then work together to overcome in pursuit of a larger goal.
mb and ART share media and generally are on good terms until the Targets happen in Network Effect and ART sends the Targets after mb and they fight and make up in pursuit of the common goal of Protecting The Humans.
katsa and po train for a while until she refuses to hurt Lord Ellis, and then realizes Po’s lie about his grace, and they fight and make up in pursuit of figuring out the whole grandfather tealiff mystery.
this relationship is unique, and does not fit into in-universe societal expectations - others try to put labels on it, even close friends, but they’re wrong. it is what it is. these two are just going to do what they do and not care about what everyone else thinks.
also there’s some mindreading going on any way you slice it, and ART/po has more power in that division, and navigating that power imbalance is an important part of the relationship.
the feed is the sci-fi version of telepathy, don’t @ me.
look, the best dnd classes are bard and rogue for a reason.  ninja + smooth talker = profit
welp. lets see if anyone else has ever combined these two incredibly niche interests

Hi
I really want to read more about what is patriarchal system and how it harms women and men in general and it's disadvantages for society. Can you plz share the link to some posts about it who explain it completely? Bc I feel like I want to explain sm but when I want to talk nothing comes to my mind . I'm an ex Muslim woman from iran and I was arguing with my cousin and he was insisting our society isn't patriarchal bc he and other men have a hard life and they have no privileges and our government is just dictator and not patriarchy which I disagree with completely. Plus he is a fan of that dumb jordan peterson so you know what kind of stupid circular reasoning he have learned from that moid and thinks western society is also not patriarchal and oppressive which I doubt is true . I mean idk much about west but they sound really disrespectful towards women in general .
I'm sorry if it is a bit long but I would appreciate if you helped me to get educated and know more . Sorry for my bad English and lenght of my ask .
Hi! I took some time to think about this, and honestly? It’s not as easy as linking a few posts. It takes months of reading and building your ability to notice patriarchal influence in your life to start being able to explain it properly in arguments. I’d start by going through radfem tags (variations on radical feminism, anti-makeup, anti-porn, anti-beauty industry, misogyny, patriarchy, religion critical, etc) and following blogs who write in-depth analysis. Tumblr is all well and good for building your basic feminist consciousness, but you need to read theory to really have an in-depth understanding.
You can start with this post for reading. There are many master posts like this one, and many radfems here share links to online feminist book collections. I recommend Andrea Dworkin’s work, We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (and her work as a whole tbh), and Invisible Women as starting points. You can then move onto Pornland, Delusions of Gender, Big Porn Inc, Men Who Hate Women and the Women Who Love Them, etc. You might also want to read Unveiled by Yasmine Mohammed, which is more about religion than feminism but I think it would be useful for you anyway. A not exactly feminist but still important book to read imo is Why Does He Do That?
You can read any or all of these, and others, depending on what you feel would be useful to you.
But there’s a point I want to address, regardless of what you read and how much you know and your ability to adequately explain and express that, your male cousin will likely not ‘understand’. He will never believe you, not because he doesn’t get it, but because he probably doesn’t see women’s suffering as real or important. Your aim in building a strong base in feminist understanding should be to further your own critical thinking and observational skills to the misogyny around you, and help you to liberate yourself and the women in your life from it. Trying to out-argue men will only work to raise your blood pressure.
I hope you find this helpful. If anyone has any ideas for anon, please share them.

in secret and thérèse raquin spoilers under the cut (ik a lot of you are planning on reading it and haven’t yet!! i’ll talk ab the book and the movie here,, and im really really rambling here like a huge huge nerd u can VERY much completely ignore this if u want)
jeeeeesusss fucking christ that movie was so much more than i remember fuck.. that fucking part with thérèse coming and just babbling out “thank you thank you thank you” LIKE SHIT… FUCK
camille is a very unfortunate man but.. and u can stone me for this i would forgive u but he is actually very easy to sympathize with??? like he’s so juvenile and so naive, very unfortunate person like that haircut is just tragic and it’s so icky he’s always sick but im sorry he’s a poor kid, that nativity and constant hopefulness is just… idk
im sorry even as im typing this it sounds so stupid, but in the book he really is just naive, and i find he’s exactly like that in the movie too i feel bad for him
EXCEPT FOR THAT ONE PART IN BED WITH THÉRÈSE that was really shitty but idk was wrong with the ppl putting this movie together because bitch no one was ever supposed to love thérèse or laurent.. i mean u totally can but it wasn’t supposed to be written as them being tragic lovers who just wanna be together n you feel super sorry for them. and i feel like they wrote that in for that exact reason.. doesn’t make it any less stupid and shitty tho. zola probably would’ve rly disliked the way this story was carried out in this movie
and fuck laurent seriously that mf wants to be so profound and mysterious so fucking bad yet he paints most times because he gets a hard on watching naked women like goodbye and im never going to forget the part in the book where he ogled a dead girl in the morgue who literally sewerslided
i really hate that man
gluttonous incapable coward god he’s terrible
i mean,, okay honestly if u never read the book or if you do read it and don’t care about its portrayal it’s not even a terrible movie, it’s not bad at all besides the typical morally questionable acts
the architecture and costumes and lightings and colours were all so beautiful the entire movie, i love watching it and taking everything in i mean it’s rly gorgeous, and ofc so is lizzie so i mean my eyes r rly never off the screen
so that was a huge thumbs up for me , the whole thing is really really pretty
i mean there r obvious things wrong ab the movie, it was written like thérèse is horribly mistreated and did what she did because of the emotional distress she was under, which okay like i said if u didn’t read the book totally totally fine makes sense like okay then she’s a relatively likable character and in that case this story is ab her reactions to her circumstances, a story like that is fine, so don’t get me wrong and think im saying it’s not
but the book and what happened in it from a naturalist perspective meaning that circumstance has little to no effect on someone’s natural way of behaving and reacting- put thérèse in any other environment she would still be the kind of demure person easily set aflame by small passionate sparks, she goes all-in bets everything and cares little about what happens if and when she burns out. that’s why she started the relationship, not solely bc she was neglected or distressed, tho im sure it also had a minor hand in it
in the book it said she was patient and able to stay relaxed n lithe like a cat because of how she had to help her aunt around n camille, and how quiet and in the background she had to be, but that did nothing on her temperament and natural way of being
even if her being quiet and patience changed, say she grew up in a different environment, she would still be one to start a relationship with laurent the same way she did canonically
i do not like how this was changed because it’s taking the whole thing out of context, rly changing all the bases of the characters and the book, and most importantly.. in the movie ur supposed to LIKE them together and see their relationship as romantic
not gonna lie there are only four solid pages in which i liked them together and u BET i came with receipts- page 38-42 (oxford university press edition translated by rothwell bc ik page formatting can differ based on book versions)
to some extent OFC i did feel bad for them in the book like the stuff they went through including thérèse being domestically abused and dozens of other things they went through is not something i’d ever feel apathy towards, but rly not once after finishing the book did i think aw man that end shouldn’t have happened and they were such a good couple
tho that is the response the movie seems to have been looking for
i think what happened at the end of the book was always always always going to happen, just like how laurent and thérèse ending up being super annoyed by each other would have always happened. once they started arguing with each other it was never going to stop and they simultaneously would never be able to live without it. that’s kind of the interesting and maybe to some ppl problematic part of naturalist literature
it’s totally FINE and really like it doesn’t matter that much if u read the book or not, you can enjoy consuming only one, or consuming both and liking only one of them! and you don’t have to care at all that it’s different from the book, the movie is pretty great on its own if you’re not comparing them
but my personal opinion comparing them… not the greatest portrayal of the book (massive things were changed!!!!). the book was rly good but the movie also has its perks too
lizzie is so incredible in this movie, not a single movie of hers that i’ve seen is disappointing, i love seeing films through her eyes and i find they’re all really centered in people and their struggles and motivations etc etc, and i rly love that
i do get pleasure out of watching in secret, it’s a very pretty movie and it’s entertaining to hate laurent and judge their relationship and lizzie is such a talented actress, i love their descent into insanity and their stupidity, it’s a movie i rly do like watching (and none of this is sarcastic i really seriously do like seeing them act like idiots at times, even in the book it was pretty entertaining)
this is a weird review i have to admit bc it seems for a majority of it that im bashing the movie,, ITS A GOOD MOVIE it’s entertaining and has a great cast and it’s pretty the soundtrack is great, so r the aesthetics it’s a great movie, it rly is
but in its portrayal to the book!!! not as good
but that doesn’t mean i don’t enjoy the movie, i do!!!
and here is one more observation i took from comparing the book and the movie: where the book did not go into detail with the sensual relationship between laurent and thérèse like the movie did tho it was still a huge part of the story, the movie also did not go into detail with the relationship that developed between them through the naturalist perspective. thus, in secret is an erotic romantic drama with not many mentions of naturalism and the book is huge on naturalism while talking no more than a collective page of their actual sexual interactions. i think MAYBE the directors n writers of the movie intended for naturalism and overt sexuality to be.. sort of synonymous? which is rly interesting i think. they both played similar roles with these characters (mostly thérèse) who store and shroud their sexualities like precious innate things as one would their natures. i thought that was kind of cool if that was the intention, and even if it wasn’t i think it was inadvertent but very clear statement either way
im not sure ab my options on that yet,, tho i kinda wanna read more about that from somewhere
i want to ask if anyone agrees with innate nature and sexuality being synonymous but idk if anyone has read this far it’s just me rambling like an idiot lmfao
ANYWAYS
i wish lizzie did more book adaptations it’s so fun to read books her movies are based on and watch her interviews and know she read the book too
it’s just so fun to analyze u know???
i need a literature pal T_T

miscellaneous thoughts on the sparrow
- some parts of the book were genuinely hilarious. “he loved god but found rough sex… gratifying.” iconic sentence
- also the priests’ realization. how every single one of them assumed emilio fucked up. emilio betrayed god. their reactions when they realize that god was the actual betrayer are kinda hilarious, and so is emilio’s reaction to their reaction. like they fucked up. they fucked up sooooo bad. honestly he could have been a lot more ruthless towards them. they got off so easy.
- “are you not concerned to be in the bedroom of someone so… notorious?” also iconic. assuming the position of christ for an ironic “seduction.” no one is doing it like him.
- the only book i’ve read that contains more pain than the sparrow is fernanda melchor’s hurricane season which if you’ve ever read that book is saying a lot.
- i mean there really is something darkly hilarious about how much pain he was subjected to. i think his accidental murder of askama was a bit contrived. but the shock value is certainly effective.
- the passage when he meets hlavin is absolutely horrific. you have to wonder how much of his initial joy at the situation is his mind frantically trying to deny what’s about to happen to him. one of the worst things i ever read. in a good way.
- i also found anne edwards deeply irritating and was not at all surprised to discover she was modeled on russell herself. her attempts at intellectual humour r so grating. in general the found family was just unconvincing to me for some reason. none of them seemed like real people except emilio, none of their attachments to each other were believable; i wasn’t that sad when they died
- i cannot help but compare this to the left hand of darkness and monster! ofc! i mean it’s kinda the antithesis of those two stories bc in those tales the protsgonists’ efforts to carry out their moral principles is ultimately rewarded, though not without sacrifice. and in the sparrow it’s the complete opposite. u could argue the history of catholicism is ultimately what screws over sandoz— bc he was acting on unstable foundations in the first place.
- he faces the same dilemma as tenma and both are messianic figures but the outcome is different bc tenma isn’t subscribing to a larger set of dubiously moral principles but his own convictions- and genly ai succeeds bc he’s able to do what sandoz/russell couldn’t which is learn to approach the alien culture on their own terms. and he learns how to do that through understanding daoist principles— so different from christian ones
like yes the alien world building is pretty shallow but nothing can compare to le guin so yah. i am being unfair. but when such an essential part of the plot hinges on that alien culture u have to go deeper than “wow! cat people utopia!” like ik the big revelations about the jana’ata and the runa were meant to be shocking and meant to make the reader question their preconceived notions of society and morality but so much of sci fi has explored this notion better. again, le guin. the dispossessed and four ways to forgiveness did it soooo much better
and then in the end they’re like “let’s send yet another mission to run interference because apparently we didn’t wreak enough havoc the first time.” like omg. you idiots.
- do i ascribe emilio’s failure to russell’s colonialist writing or his own ignorance? so hard to say— i mean the narrative is pretty ambiguous on whether it was the missionaries’ fault or god’s fault. but it doesn’t touch on their most essential mistake which was assuming that they knew better than the natives
it’s always the messianic figures that get me, istg!!

- I feel like he is very comfortable and feels safe with you and finds it easy to communicate his feelings or his worries with you and i feel like that motivates you to do the same!
- I feel like he also really likes reading, and y’all would just share books with eachother and then talk about them when y’all are both done with the same book
- Always tries to help you when you bake, (which ends up in you having to kick him out of the kitchen because he kept eating the cookie dough and throwing flour 😭)
- Also forgot to mention how if you start playing music in the kitchen while you’re baking, he will INSIST on you dancing with him, even if that means the cookies burn
- You guys also LOVE just going on long walks together while just enjoying the sunset (that’s where the best convos happen tbh)
- Y’all’s biggest cause of arguments is that he just leaves stuff around the house and doesn’t pick it up.
- Like he doesn’t mean to and he’s not lazy it’s just that he usually has a lot going on in his head at the moment and forgets. (can you blame him tho? 😭)
- He is sooo sweet with you, loves spoiling you with kisses, hugs, and just telling you how much he loves you, with that being said I feel eventually he would bring out this sweet and silly side of you that ONLY he can see
- He loves when you take care of him and show him a safe space, it makes him feel so appreciated and loved 🥹
- You guys might have more of a nuclear/traditional family but don’t let that fool anyone because your guys’ home is probably going to be the most welcoming/supportive on the block
- And just like the BoB ship I think y’all would also be amazing parents (Ik you’d be the best mom ofc 💞)
- I feel like he is VERY loyal and would never do something to break your trust or to hurt you in Any way
- (also i feel like you guys are very protective over each other, not in a toxic way but if somebody hurts one or the other? Oh boy pray for them bc the other one is gonna come for them)
- Y’all are just both so happy and supportive of each other like, you got a promotion? Celebration. Having a bad day? Cuddles and reassurance.
- But y’all would just be such a sweet and adorable couple omggg
I hope you love this honey and I hate that I couldn’t get the google docs open :(( And thank you so much for liking the BoB Ship from earlier it means so much!! 🫶🏻💗

🚂🚃 asks
15. Is there a song, book, movie, or other piece of media that has drastically altered your life? What was it, are there multiple?
There are multiple, yes. *cracks knuckles*
Novels:
1. The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton.
I will never be able to explain what this book means to me. It's a fabulous, ineffable feeling that no other piece of media has ever made me feel. I'm so different from Lily Bart, and yet i find her so relatable, so easy to understand. Her incapacity to reconcile two conflicting ideas, her lack of drive, her lack of self-worth beyond being a beautiful vessel; how her mother's influence has shaped her ideals, how Selden challenges them and why that appeals her so much. The world Lily's mother built for her is crumbling, and she's helpless. She's her own worst enemy.
I had to microdose this novel because it made my heart physically ache. I knew from the start she was doomed, and at the end i cried for her, and i cried for myself fearing i will suffer the same fate.
2. Notre Dame de Paris.
A shallow reading of this novel won't make it justice. The Disney movie is like: the monster is actually human / the human is actually a monster yadda yadda yadda, boring (still a good movie tho). The book doesn’t have such a stale dichotomy. Claude Frollo is terrifyingly human and terrifyingly well portrayed. I remember getting goose bumps when i read the boat scene in which Frollo —like Charon ferrying the souls of the dead across the waters of Hades— ferries Esmeralda to the other side of the shore, where he (also as the role of judge) will decide her final sentence.
3. Of Human Bondage.
The movie does not do justice to the book. Yes, Bette's performance ✨️talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before✨️, etc. But the book is better. In the novel Philip himself is incapable of understanding why he's so frightfully in love with Mildred, he's in a constant struggle to get over it. He hates Mildred, he desperately loves her, he hates himself for loving her. *Insert ouroboros encircling Cupid: love is self devouring here*. And Mildred...well, I can't figure her out, she confuses me. In the movie (as with Frollo) she is just plain bad. But in the book she's a constant ????? she's petty, she's mean and manipulative, but she is also capable of being incredibly naive, of giving in to passionate impulses and of feeling compassion. I think Mildred is far more stupid than evil, which once again makes her more human.
Poetry:
Devotions.
Mary oliver was right: You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.
Completely changed my view of the world and shaped me into the person that i am today.
Shows:
The x Files.
I have nothing to say that hasn't already been said by the x files meta writers on this app.
Movies:
The Sound of Music.
It somehow feels like a movie adaptation of Mary Oliver's poetry. 174 minutes of pure joy.
17. What's the most interesting coincidence you've had happen to you (or someone you know)?
Sorry to disappoint you querida but i have no idea.
Many interesting coincidences have happened to me! almost all of them related to coincidentally meeting a key person in my life.
19. In general, is there any historical event you desperately want to witness?
Tumblr media
85. What memories would describe as your "core" ones?
My mom clumsily playing videogames just for the sake of spending time with me. My dad sleepily reading Donald Duck comics to me at night and me asking him to not fell asleep and to go on, go on! bc i was a such a restless, full of life child and couldn't understand how the people around me was so drained. My childhood summers. ABBA on the car radio while travelling. The first time my cat looked at me with his big baby blue eyes. Meeting you. My last year of highschool which was the only one good.

November 11, 2022
I actually did the worst on my open book popgen exam lol (not that it mattered anyway).  I’m in a good place grade-wise, I think.
You know, all of these programs conveniently leave out the fact that not only do you have to submit a personal statement, but you have to also write four, five, six other little essays on random (they’re related) topics.  Like,,, HUH.  I just thought I’d pop in with a quick “boy howdy I wanna be a scientist, a woman in stem, a personified bunsen burner” and then be met with a round of applause and a stipend but apparently that’s not enough these days.
Also some of my apps are asking about my sexuality and that was definitely not a thing four years ago and like idk I know some ace folk feel like they fit in the queer community and that’s totally fine and I love my little hahaheehee’s on acetok but putting it in writing (yes, I recognize the irony considering the nature of this blog)???  FIRST of all I don’t know if this is real or if it’s purity culture-induced guilt.  I could get married and it all falls away and suddenly you’ve got a sexual being on your hands (one in need of therapy tho bc I’ve heard it’s a difficult switch to make).  SECOND what if it changes.  I dunno I just.. there is no truly permanent sense of self and.. ugh.  I mean I could say I’m aro/ace and they’ll be like “wow so she won’t be distracted by boys she’s a safe bet” but what they don’t know is that I’ll be distracted by everything else.
On a lighter note, listen.  I get it, LMM maybe wasn’t at all what we were expecting from Hermes.  I love the jokes, I think they’re silly because, ultimately, that man is a dork.  A theatre kid (who makes pretty bangin music ngl).  All adult theatre kids deserve ridicule.  No exceptions.  Obviously I want him to do well because I want the show to be good and I trust Rick.  I love the silly jokes, but I feel a little bad bc we’re circling back to that time on tiktok when Hamilton had just been released on D+ and everyone was watching it and making fun of the guy even though he wasn’t doing anything except loving being on stage.
And, breaking news, it turns out that I may not get into that education class after all which kind of sucks.  I have to wait until the start of next semester to see if the section has seats available at which point anyone will be able to register.  Until then, I’m registered for a greek art class in its place.
Lastly, it’s surprisingly easy to slip into supporting eugenics and I blame this on the fact that geneticists find eugenics to be so abhorrent and such an uncomfortable part of the discipline’s history that it’s rarely actually discussed or taught.  And this is the same problem with minimizing slavery or the holocaust or the treatment of indigenous Americans.  Those who do not learn and critically consider history are doomed to repeat it.  Scientists have an ethical responsibility to go beyond providing data.  They must nip misinterpretations in the bud by addressing the context of their work.  We read an article (more like a saga of articles, it was the scientific equivalent of a fight over twitter) in popgen which got me completely wired by the way that it used eugenics rhetoric without addressing that issue explicitly, and that feels so much more irresponsible than saying your a eugenics advocate outright (my prof had to assure me that the author was not, in fact, a eugenics guy).  I just... science doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and we live in an age where information is readily available to any person at any time.  Scientists need to keep that in mind and consider the social ramifications of their work, especially if it relates to humans.  Neutral science does not exist!!  We’re all influenced by the context in which we are raised!!  Anyway, back to the original point, eugenics should be taught sensitively in science classes so that people understand a) how to detect the warning signs of a budding eugenics-based argument and b) why they’re wrong to begin with.  Only then can we civilly discuss issues like how to mitigate the problems of the (fairly theoretical to begin with) human genetic load or whatever.
Today I’m thankful for the walks promenades I took last night and tonight!!  It was decently warm and I just needed to blow off some steam (we’re a mere week into daylight savings and I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate how sunset starts at 2 pm I hate how I feel down more often now).  Plus CRC3E38 was released yesterday and I tore through that thing on my walks.  I’m thankful that there’s a big open area on campus where people often frequent so I feel safe walking at night.  I’m thankful that I, a patron of the arts, went to see an (free) a capella show tonight, a lovely and uniquely collegiate experience.  I’m thankful that my cello-friend liked my arrangement draft!!  Finally, I’m thankful that I know people who will straight up tell me who the red flags in my field of choice are because I was definitely unknowingly flying close to one.
