fuck I can’t believe I have to say this but you know it’s not stupid or even immoral to have hope even when things are objectively bad right?? you do know that finding fault in literally everything and never permitting yourself to ever relax or be positive or hope for the best is ACTIVELY BAD FOR YOUR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH, RIGHT?? PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME YOU KNOW THIS!!!
#I know this is the ‘nuance is illegal and makes you a bootlicker’ website but PLEASE#I’ve already seen so many posts and memes being like ‘who cares that we could have a female president when the us is still evil??’#like??? it’s been 24 hours and everyone’s already doing the thing they promised they wouldn’t#the us has been complicit in the situation with Israel and Palestine for decades now#every president you’ve voted for every president I’ve voted for every president we haven’t voted for has been complicit#I know it comforts you to think there’s some alternative that allows you to distance yourself from that suffering#But there isn’t#Your tax dollars have contributed to it as have mine#That sucks and we’re right to hate it and be mad about it#but we have a binary choice in November#both sides of which are Not Great on the Palestine issue but one of which is Much Worse#people are allowed to be multi-issue voters#It is in fact the only way the us system will allow it to work#people are allowed to say my vote will maybe make a difference in abortion access; trans and gay rights; student loans; inflation#minimum wage; healthcare access and costs; and the supreme court and whatever else they care about#it’s not wrong to think that way#it’s the only way we’re not going to worry ourselves down into little nubs by November#I’m sorry I know it’s bleak but I need yall to be adults about this#I need yall to show yourselves and your fellow citizens (not just in the us but everywhere) some damn compassion#If hope isn’t a weapon that you wield easily I’m going to need you to practice okay?#things will get better#there’s no other choice

Still remember how people on mixels discord server mentioned how either major nixel or king nixel would be the sexy man or something. I also thought that maybe flain would be one too considering the fact that I think he's often the most shipped character with OCs or something and how I used to have a crush on him as a child.

Okay just because I have the linguistic knowledge DOESN'T mean my autistic ass is confident. I mean I get where you're coming from, free Scottish Gaelic website, but I am very much NOT confident enough to ask simple questions

In loveeeeeeee with your writing! How did you learn to write so well? (And specifically your smut? Because my god it’s on another level.)
thank you so much 🥹🥹🥹
as for where i learned, i think its really a combination of reading so many books + being a grammar nerd… my collection of books is insane and ive picked up a lot from them! also from reading a LOT of fanfiction too… reading fanfiction has definitely helped a lot with the smut aspect!
ive also been writing for a LONNGGG LONG time (like years, i used to write long ass stories with my ocs when i was like 11) + used to always do those long winded roleplays with my friends which also helped a lot when it comes to my writing!

real question how/why do y'all use the bookmark button on ao3...
I never really use it but I know a lot of people use it to track what they've read, or a place to collect their favourite fics for re-reads, or any other way (tbf I have a spreadsheet for all of these actions)
so if you could all please let me know if/how/why you use the bookmark button maybe it'll give me ideas lol

Look how little differences in translations change the impression completely! Like here, it seems like Gin might have some remorse over all the terrible things he's done, so he tries to forget it everytime:
Tumblr media
Meanwhile here, it portrays Gin as a very cruel character who treat other person's live like toys, which is the exact opposite of Shinichi who values all lives, good and bad:
Tumblr media
But ofc the second translation is the one closer to the original meaning or else we would have some Gin angsty take by now XD. Oh and because the first one is from manganelo, and the translations on that site are always so confusing!

Make sure you vote tomorrow, March 5th (2024), when most states are holding their primaries!
Speaking as a Californian and my personal experience as a voter and in doing pollworking for the past couple elections...
If you got a Vote By Mail ballot, you can drop it off at any polling place/post office/ballot drop box (if it has the correct county envelope you got it with - the county will forward it to the correct county for vote counting, same as the post office). MAKE SURE YOU READ THE ENVELOPE BECAUSE YOU'LL NEED TO SIGN AND DATE THE ENVELOPE BEFORE YOU RETURN IT. (And your signature needs to resemble the one you signed when you registered.)
If you want to vote in-person, you will need to find a polling place WITHIN the county you're registered to vote in, preferrably your assigned precinct - you should check your county's website to find the location if you didn't get a notice by mail.
I don't know how every county does this, but in my county, the accessible ballot marking device has access to all the ballots in my county, which is great for people who can't find or travel to their assigned polling place during the poll hours. Each polling place only has access to pre-printed paper ballots from the precinct(s) assigned to it, which is why the accessible ballot marking device (which prints the ballot once you finish marking it) has been super important, since people tend to just go to any polling place they've heard about or used in the past. (And we DON'T have access to ANY ballots from a different county, not even on that device.)
Voting registration and vote collection is done by each county SEPARATELY, so you won't show up on a roster in another county, and they won't have the ballot you're eligible to vote on. You'd need to re-register/vote provisionally with the different county in order to vote on their ballots. (Which is why it's important to vote on the Vote By Mail ballot that was sent to you - it has all the races you're eligible to vote for, SO GO DIG IT OUT OF YOUR MAIL PILE AND VOTE ON IT, 'CAUSE THEY WERE SENT OUT IN LIKE JANUARY OR SOMETHING. THAT SHIT COST AN ABSURD AMOUNT TAX DOLLARS PER BALLOT, SO DON'T WASTE IT.)
If you haven't registered to vote yet, you can register on the same day you vote! (Again, this is for California, I don't know how other states do it.)
Again, make sure you find a place IN YOUR COUNTY, and try to vote at your assigned polling place, so your vote is counted where it matters!
TLDR: Order of importance:
1. Fill out the mail ballot that was sent to you. Take it to the post office, polling place, or official ballot drop box. It must be collected BEFORE THE POLLS CLOSE. Drop it off on your lunch break, if you need to get it in before closing time.
2. If you can't do that, go to your assigned polling place. (Check your county website.) Same importance as number 1, but you may have to wait in a line depending on what time you arrive.
3. If you can't do that, go to any polling place in the county you're registered to vote in.
4. Register/update your registration to vote. No one can be denied the right to vote at the end of the day, but if it's not with the county you're eligible to vote in, your ballot may be deemed ineligible. (I've never done anything on the ballot-counting side, so I definitely can't answer questions about that. If you're curious, you can get an answer by calling your specific county.)
Side note: do not wear any merch that has a candidate's name who's on the ballot while going to vote. This is electioneering, which is illegal. (Also includes any propositions or other items on the ballot.)
#again im just speaking as a regular person here i dont represent the county or state#im pollworking tomorrow but i can only tell you to speak directly with your county if you have specific questions#every county has a different setup and proceedure#just mostly wanted to remind ppl to dig out their mail ballots bc every year we have someone go 'oh i left it at home'#well guess what. thats the ballot u need to vote on otherwise ur gonna have to fill out a whole envelope of information to do it provisional#..or wait in line to use the accessible ballot marking device (which.. damn we need more of them in each polling place)#i saw the setup and were gonna have 2 in my polling place this year whoo hoo#2020 the lines were SO LONG bc we only had 1 and no one wanted to use their mail ballots for some unknown reason#so yeah#Cori.exe#Post.exe#voting#elections#pollworking#2024 primary#again im just a little guy my word is not law check your county website for 'the law'#just wanted to remind ppl since ive seen fuckall online about reminding people to go vote tmr#i gotta get some sleep i need to be up at like 430 or some bullshit and im already tired lol#go vote#seriously#even if u dont wanna select anyone for presidential primary.. at least vote in your local elections where ur vote has more weight#california also has a senate seat up for grabs which is pretty important if u ask me#i was actually pleasantly surprised to find a candidate i liked in that race usually its like pulling nails#also our representatives seat is also up for reelection and thats also pretty important#and our state-senator (which is separate from the US-senator. something i didnt know until like 2020)#bottom line is. you need to vote theres no getting around it. you dont get to complain about politics unless you vote#((unless ur a minor or formally incarcerated person i guess. u will always have the social right to complain abt politics imo))#im rambling bc anxiety now lol if u see me at the polls no u didnt i am a meat popsicle#ive reread this like 20 times its as accurate as i can remember right now but im only human seriously check ur countys site#also pollworking is not an employee of the county its like classed as a contractor or something since its volunteer (but they do pay us)

I am going to say something that might piss people on this site off, and that is that the stabbing at a Taylor Swift themed event in Southport does not exist in a vacuum.
It exists in a world where a joke about bringing a nail gun to the Eras tour to shoot fans gets 400k likes on TikTok, or where a reel about crashing a plane full of Swifties gets 200k likes on Instagram. It exists in a world where, on this very website, the one that promotes itself as rational and reasonable, someone says that "Taylor Swift and her fans should all die violent horrible deaths" and people applauded it. It exists in a world where, during TTPD release week men were in Swifties' comment sections declaring they would beat their daughters and girlfriends if they ever so much as listened to one of her albums. And it exists in a world where this week, fans of a TV show (which I will not name because that is not the point) sent death threats to a girl on Twitter for daring to be a fan of both their beloved show and Taylor Swift.
I don't give a fuck what your opinion of Taylor Swift is. I don't care if you think her music is grating, I don't care if you think she is the worst thing to happen to humanity since Eve ate the god damn apple. This is the dark side of stan culture that no-one talks about; where dislike of an artist becomes so obsessive that it becomes normal, even funny, to joke about killing their fans, because "it's just online, it's just a joke". It isn't. It is rarely ever "just online".
And yes I am going to be That Person and say that you can complain about Swift's brand of feminism and debate her position as a feminist icon all day long, at the end of the day, her name is still synonymous with girls. It doesn't take a genius to work out who this event was geared at.
I am not going to sit and claim that by simply not liking Taylor Swift you directly caused this. I would encourage you to step back, look at the bigger picture of stan culture, including obsessive dislike of an artist, and ask yourself how much this culture has enabled this. If making jokes on tiktok about killing someone over a pop star is normalised, how much of a leap is it to attacking kids with a knife at a fan event?
and of course there is the fact that the british media didn't even wait until those kids were buried before using this event to spread their racist, anti-immigrant agenda despite the race of the attacker not being known. all I can say to that is I am sickened and disappointed but not shocked.

tbh it is pretty absurd just how bad Tumblr's algorithm is at giving you shit you actually want to see
giving you the exact posts you've already reblogged again and again, putting your own posts in your following feed (making it worthless if you've just reblogged a bunch of stuff), and interpreting reblogging one thing from a fandom as a sure sign you must surely want to see only those things in your feed
just why?

All I'm saying is any rule, any law, any social convention, anything where there's some kind of reprisal for transgressing against it... just make damn sure you're careful with it lest it be used against you
Every freedom you give up in the name of making a better world, really double check it's worth it and narrowly defined
I mean some freedoms are worth giving up, for instance I don't have the freedom to kill people who annoy me, and I shouldn't have that freedom. I lose very little while gaining a great deal both personally and for society as a whole, and there are a lot of places like this where it's 100% worth it to ban something outright
Similarly, there absolutely are reasons to socially shun people, like you don't have to put up with every last thing just to be nice. Influencers who do stuff like harass people to drum up attention or record and post every second of their kid's lives, I don't think we should be engaging with people like that unless it's to keep an eye on them, I think they do a ton of harm
All I'm saying though, is shit like the Patriot Act drummed up support because it was going to protect people, keep people safe... and look what actually happened, look how it's used. It's state surveillance against the people it claimed to protect and that's about it
I'm not gonna tell you which things are wrong to shit on people for, or which policies you should oppose. I don't want you to just mimic what I believe, even if I thought anyone was gonna
I just want you to look at stuff, and think about it, and really decide if that thing you want gone is harmful in a concrete enough way that if you do something to try to remove it, it will only remove that instead of spilling over in to stuff you didn't want it to
I just want you to check in your head if anything you're cracking down on either legally or through social pressure might lead you to losing something you care about down the road if bad actors skew how to interpret things
I'm not saying that's how it's gonna go, I'm just saying think first
#you know what I'll always respect?#when cloudflare basically just removed their ddos protections from... think it was stormfront or a similarly hateful website#and here's the part I respect#the owner came out and basically said 'yeah; I woke up and was basically like fuck those assholes; I'm done with this'#'because we basically had people asking us to just step aside; so i knew they'd get hit with a ddos if we cancelled our contract'#'and I don't regret it at all; because they're awful people and I hate them'#'but I also have to say it's pretty worrisome that I could singlehandedly make a decision like that'#it went something like that anyway; and I respect the fact that he realized the gravity of his actions#like I mean I agree with him; agree with what he did; fuck those assholes#but he had awareness about the whole thing; he realized that there was danger that the unpopular voice wouldn't always be unpopular#because it was saying something hateful and vile like in these cases#sometimes the unpopular voice might be saying something true; and just; and important; that people just didn't like or want to hear#and that... it's very hard to work out how to tell the difference in terms of a systematic framework#and that also like... well; our gut will tell us which things are good and bad; which things should be protected and which shouldn't#except... that's fucking stupid; we all get it wrong; and most of us are ruled by what makes us uncomfortable more than morality#like be blunt; that's a pretty damn true statement if you think about it#and even if it's not; there have been absolutely abhorrent ideas in the past that were held as sacrosanct pillars of society#like was it wrong to say 'slavery is horrible and should be banned' just because some people found that an unpopular opinion?#obviously not; like blatantly those people were wrong#but you have to acknowledge; you really really have to acknowledge that you're capable of being one of those people#that you're capable of believing wrong; bad; hurtful things even though you're trying to be a good person#that you could be on the pro slavery side of things in a modern situation where we just haven't moved far enough along#for it to become more or less universally recognized that yeah... you're just being a backwards asshole about things#we can all be tricked; we can all fall for vile lines of thinking if they appeal to us in the right ways; me included#the important thing is to constantly try your best to reevaluate why you believe what you believe and provide evidence#I don't know... just don't be passive and assume you're right#check that what you're saying and doing isn't causing undue harm#it's tough... we all think we're freethinking smarties who've come to the right conclusion#so if I tell you to make sure you're right; you're gonna say 'yeah of course I am'; and you know? so am I#but just like... try to be a little introspective; and try to interrogate what you believe and why
