TimeSpark - Prologue Draft

Started writing out a time travel fix-it idea. Not that MHA needs fixing, it's just what the genre of when a person time travels to change the future is called.

tl;dr Kaminari refuses to die and death(?) laughs at him and brings him back.

Denki Kaminari never thought he would die on the front lines.

Well, technically he isn't dead. Yet. He could still feel his heart slowing, his eyes growing heavy, and the ringing in his ears seemed to become quieter. The world around him seemed to still, alongside his body that had been nearly pulverized by building debris beforehand. He barely felt Kyoka's futile attempts to wake him up. The desperate girl shook her partner's dying body as the world fell apart around them both. He coughed, a pitiful attempt at laughter. Never before now had he considered what the job of being a hero would entail. 

Denki smiled like many others had done on live television after arresting a criminal or a civilian at the wrong place and time. He was choking now, breathing not the charcoal air but the vitality of his blood that still attempted to run through his busted veins. He sighed again, bleakly looking around the decimated landscape. His body is now being hauled upon by some instrument of stability. But by the way colors seemed to blend together and his brain felt like it was becoming mush, he could tell it was too late for him.

"Denki!.....You'll…okay alright? STAY….US DENKI?!...DENKI?!...PLEASE?.......please…"

With what little strength he had, he held the closest hands to his. One pair was smaller than his, their nails chipped and previously painted. Young and female. The other hand were much older and calloused, shaking too. He gripped them tightly, before easing them out of his hold. With the next couple of breaths, the world caved in and went dark.

The next moments were hard to describe.

He was floating, or drifting…. Through nothingness. He couldn't feel anything. Not the slightest of wind or the tiniest of touches. He couldn't feel anything. He couldn't emote, feel happy, sad, angry… remorse? Nothing. He was just here, floating endlessly, nothing but hollow filled what supposedly was his soul. The darkness soothed his nonexistent nerves and calmed his eternally hyperactive mind. If it was what death felt like, it was surprisingly peaceful.

He slipped further and further into the dark embrace, slowly forgetting what life was like beforehand.At first it was simple things. What color was his earrings, or his favorite park to visit since childhood, the kind of stuff everyone forgets eventually. When he realised he could barely recall what his parents looked like, and their names, he realised he had to get out of there. 

He tried to get a sense for his surroundings, but the nothingness only grated against him further. He tried yelling, screaming, begging, and hollering, but nothing was of use. He felt himself start to flicker, the last light of his being, someone or something was trying to blow it out.

He realized then, he didn't want to die. Not yet.

From his remaining memory he had so much to live for, so many people that cared about him and in turn he cared about. He clawed at the fading picture of his mind to keep going. To remember those he cherished and the moments they had together. Before the world went to shit, and after.

The wind became heavier now, and as he drew closer to being snuffed, he could hear voices around him.

They told him to give up, to accept his fate, to move on, and those he held dear grieve and eventually join him. After all, it was much better than being blinded by the light and pain of the after all.

He made the mental motion of covering his ears, his body long gone but what was left of him still aching for another chance. Just one or two, just to at worst, see them again, and at best, fix everything. He could if he would!

Haunted laughter filled his dulling senses. Jeers stating that if they couldn't get a chance, why should he? He was stupid after all, dumb both academically, socially, and especially when it came to his quirk, the overstimulation of static electricity killing off the synapses in his brain. 

But among these jeers, the worst of them all spoke in a high, yet soothing voice of eerie calm. It contrasted against the screams of outrage and the wails of misery. 

"So, little dream. You want to be dreamt again huh…?"

He did his best to nod, but a large, boney finger pushed against the pulsating energy of his soul, shushing him, despite his voice never being spoken. 

"No dear, think for a moment. How can you make humans dream of you?"

A pause, he did not move, attempting to create a mentally sound reason for why he should go back. This being seemed so determined to snuff him out earlier, what could he do to convince them…

"Hm… why not lead the humans to me then? And then, I'll let you create your world."

Despite not seeing the being's face, he could tell by its tone alone that it was grinning, the voices eerily quiet about this proclamation. He didn't know exactly what it meant, nor did he have the time to ponder either. He just nodded again, pushing himself onto the hand that held him in place, protecting him from the wind. 

The hand lifted him, above the voices, above the wind and above the darkness, and slowly, he returned to his senses.

"Not a goodbye little dream, as the end is only the beginning."

Kaminari grins at him, so blinding and happy that Tenya almost recoils. “Call me Denki. You’re my tic buddy, right?
