01 for all your Dragon Age characters.

Thank you! do remember naming after someone, or whose names actually have meanings I know of.

01. What does your character’s name mean? Did you pick it for the symbolism, or did you just like the way it sounded?

None of them were really picked for any symbolism in their names, with the exception of Vanyla! Most were just for how it sounded, lol.

Vanyla: There were two concepts going into Vanyla’s character - one was criticism of fandom stuff that irked me (as you may recall!), and the other was “has the stereotypical traits of a Disney princess, except she’s terrible” lol. So kinda on that theme, I got “Vanyla” from “vanity”, which felt fitting for somebody who seems like a pretty princess and thinks of herself as one waaaaay too much.

Sidane: They were originally named after Zidane from Final Fantasy IX, and according to Google, “Zidane = Zeid = abundance and growth.” Fitting enough for a mage with a specialty in the creation tree, right?

Nadine: A quick Google search says that “Nadine” means “hope.” I don’t recall why she got the name Nadine, but the meaning itself is… well, kinda ironic for her. Lol. She’s not a terribly hopeful person.

Rosemary: Not gonna lie, I just thought it sounded pretty and that it went well with Ramori (the two are back-to-back protagonists in one world state.) Google says it means “dew of the sea” in Latin, which is neat!

Will: Their name means “resolute protector”, and I like it for them! Fitting for a Robin Hood-esque diplomatic Hawke.

Katrina: Her name means “pure.” Also fitting, because gosh would she like to imagine herself as such. :(

Ealisay: She’s still a WIP character since I haven’t played much DA:I, and this one’s purely for in-universe reasons. The Trevelyan family is said to be devout Andrastians, and so Ealisay was named after Andraste’s dearest friend in childhood.

The Lowlanders’ Grand GameHeading Home

“My hand is cold. Unlesswe find somewhere to stop soon, it’s going up your back.”

Cullen arched his browas he turned toward Katrina, head tilting to the side ever so slightly, hiswild and unruly curls tumbling about his face as the wind caught them.

While the wind wasplaying with Katrina’s hair as well, it merely blew it in haphazard wisps fromher face and attempted bun. Whenever they did stop, she’d be complaining abouthow much of a mess it was for a good hour, at least.

Her nose and ears werered, lips looking a little purple, and her breath escaped her in the huffs hewas so accustomed to given life by the ice in the air.

“You know, I am feelinga little warm,” Cullen offered with a shrug, tugging their steed’s reins andturning the beast so that they could maneuver around a budding cliff that wasmore like to stretch one for miles and miles than stop any time soon.

He kept thinking that herecognized landmarks, but after wandering the Lowlands so long with Katrina,his memories were a little fuzzy, and he was far too eager to be home. If whathe’d been told was right, his hold was right where they’d left it when theywent to untangle the Frostback Mountains from the Lowlander scheming in Orlais.

Without furtherinvitation, Katrina tugged his shirt up and slide her hands underneath thefabric, though they rested on his stomach rather than his back.

“Better?” He asked,trying to hide the grin in his voice as she shivered closer to him.

“How are you warm?”

“It’s not even snowing,love.”

He was fairly certain hecould feel her scowl through his shirt as she pressed her face against him,trying to escape the wind.

“Doesn’t have to snow tobe miserable.”

“If you want to go back—”

“We are going back,” she muttered, squeezing him a bit tighter asthough the mere suggestion had been a hint of parting ways.

“We could settlesomewhere in Ferelden, if you want.”

“If we’re going to becold, we might as well be with your family,” Katrina retorted. She hadn’t beenoverly fond of Ferelden while they’d wandered their way through it, insteadconstantly comparing it to Starkhaven and expressing how much better her ‘terriblyuptight, overly religious corner of the Void’ was.

However, their generalconsensus was that it was still leagues better than Orlais, the epitome ofeverything terrible and wrong with any good civilization.

They’d been told theymight change their minds if they ever went to Tevinter, but neither of them hadbeen overly inclined to go that far north.

Cullen had almost diedof heatstroke in Rivain.

That had been whenKatrina had suddenly gotten interested in wandering back toward the south andwouldn’t it figure that their path led them through the Frostbacks. The Hawkclan telling them that the Red Lions were exactly where they’d left them seemedalmost like it had to have been part of the plan, too, impossible as it was.After all, she had no way to contact any of the clans, though he had heard herpray in her awkward, ‘I don’t know if you’re real, but would like to think so’way to the Lady to keep him safe until he was home again.

He knew she worried forhim, but that didn’t mean they should give up one of their health for theother.

If he was completely comfortable,she’d freeze, and when she was well off, he felt like he was on fire.

And not in a remotelypleasant way.

However, he could tellbefore she’d admitted it that she was wrangling him back toward Avvarterritory, and so he’d played along, pretending to be surprised when shefinally confessed she worried about his health and thought he belonged up inthe mountain peaks with his family.

Perhaps if he talked toGalyan about what could be done, there was something magical that would letKatrina fare better in the winters and cold in general.

Her fingers flexedagainst his muscles and he reached down and patted her hands through his shirt,squeezing one of them as she sighed against his back. “Do you want to stop forthe night?”

“It’s not night yet.”

He turned where he satin the saddle as best he could to cast a glance back at her. “You said weneeded to find a place, though.”

“I just wanted an excuseto feel you up,”

It was a lie, but hefigured he’d let her keep her pride a little longer. Patting her hands through hisshirt again, he straightened in his seat and continued to scan the woods forsomething genuinely familiar.

If you're familiar with it, how do your OCs solve "the Trolley Problem"?

.  … This is a mean question. XD 

I’ve heard several variations of “the Trolley Problem”, but it basic: trolley going fast about to hit 5 or so people trapped on the track, you can’t break in time but you can pull the lever to switch tracks but there is one person trapped there that you’ll hit as well? Sometimes that one is supposed to be a child or specifically your child? 

Also, which OCs? I’ll answer with those I have the clearest idea of response for.

Nehnara Surana: I mean… .I feel like she’d do something crazy with magic to the trolley as she jumped out of it while cursing a whole bunch… but that may be cheating? She likes cheating. She’s ok with that. To get more to the heart of this “moral problem” … . .in theory she’d say you should do whatever saves the highest number of people possible. In practice if this was a version where it was a choice between strangers and a loved one … .she’d save her loved one. She would try to save as many people as possible but … . .I suppose it also depends on the scale? Because while she DID have Morrigan go though with the dark ritual, if that hadn’t been an option she would have sacrificed herself and possible others to end the blight - logically she knows that the blight HAS to be ended. If you are trying to force some situation where it’s a couple strangers or Beatrix & Zev? She’d choose Beatrix & Zev.   

Beatrix Tabris: Sooooo… .all of my OCs like to cheat? She’d switch to the track that had the less people involved and then try some crazy-ass, death defying, rogue move to jump out the front and try grabbing the person and rolling out of the way in time. Is that a smart plan: probably not. Would she make it: no idea. It’s not that she doesn’t believe in a “no-win” situation, she’s seen no-win situations and knows they exist. She just refuses to let that dictate her actions. She’s the type who when put into a bad spot will be 100% willing to try and do something absolutely out-there for the result she wants. Sometimes this leads to horrible shit, but she’d rather try and fail than not try. 

Svetlana Cadash: Ok. I put Svetlana on here because in ACTION she’d probably have a similar response as Bea, although she’s slightly less likely to do something … stupid? However, if you were to pose “the trolley problem” to her as a hypothetical question, she’d most likely give you so completely ridiculous response just to see the look on your face: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-N_RZJUAQY4.

Katrina Cadash: She would go with the choice that seemed the most logical to her at the time. Most likely whichever saved the most people. 

Adhlea Lavellan: So, compared to Beatrix and Svetlana, Adhlea is the least likely of these 3 to do something with a high percentage of failure. If she thought it was at least 50/50, she’d go for it. Otherwise she would do whatever she thought would save the most lives. However, if this is the version were one of her own children is the single person on the track… she’s my only OC who currently has children in her canon. If she saw her own, or actually any, child on the other track … .I don’t think she could mentally do it. Though I also think the guilt would eat at her horribly if something like that happened.

Lilith Trevelyan: Would do whatever saved the most lives. Though again, she’s more likely to try something sneaky like veilstrike the trolley out of the way while fadestepping to safety or something … .

Rurisa Adaar: similar in response to Adhlea, but she doesn’t currently have children…. 

There’s a couple other OCs (shoves the other 20 into my closet and under my bed), but here are the first responses that came to mind? Sorry for the long post! It was an interesting (and cruel) question that really got me trying to think. :)
