also i dont remember if you said you watched all of queendom but do you think the show is as effective as it *should* be in terms of promoting groups. ((personally id say no,,, good for viral moments maybe but judging on how wjsn literally won and their company starship is still giving all the attention to their favourite child you've (((id say ive but if you have them blocked))) i think queendom leaves a lot to be desired for helping a group or artist make lasting impressions in public))

i did! well, 'watched' is generous, i never watched the full episodes but i did review all the stages! they're all tagged on my directory page.

and no, i don't think it was effective at all in promoting groups. mnet shows have been dipping in popularity this year, pretty much all the ones i can think of have crashed pretty hard/have not been well favoured, and it definitely has to do with how they're constructing/writing the shows more for drama and 'viral' moments than actually letting performers make good art. the original queendom was somewhat successful i think bc it was the first version, and rtk worked because the point was they were bringing in underdog groups, and a lot of underdog groups are the ones actually putting out good work atm. rtk was a bit of a fluke though and not because of mnet, it's just that the limited resources/restrictions and the combination of groups lead to some really really good stages, but as soon as they changed that formula it went off the rails. rtk did bring tbz a lot of attention, but on the flip side i don't think kingdom actually brought them many new fans and nor did it do anything for skz, the actual winners. it did boost sf9, but i think anything would have boosted sf9 at that point. and queendom 2 did fuck all for anybody. i mean, it let people know that hyolyn is still queen shit, but that's kind of about it. the vast majority of the performances were disappointing or just straight up not good, and the whole point of the show is about the performances.

Introduction

Welcome back witches in training! We've been covering a lot of ground bases lately, especially within the realms of spellwork. Today, we're going to take that a bit further by opening our horizons to the infinite world of Candle Magic! In this lesson, we're going to discuss basic color magic, the history of candles, and how to use candles in your craft. Let's get to it!

A Brief Candle History

The exact origin of the candle is quite a debate among historical scholars, but there is a large sum of evidence that suggests candles made of beeswax were used in Egypt and Crete as early as 3000 BCE. Other early candles were fashioned using tallow-soaked tapers manufactured from fibrous materials like rushes. Rushlights were one of the first types of enclosed light we are aware of, yet they were unlike candles as we know them today because they lacked a wick. The impoverished continued to utilize them for centuries because they were also inexpensive to produce.

It may come as no surprise that the Romans are credited with creating the first wicked candles by continuously dipping a roll of papyrus into tallow, a converted form of beef or mutton fat, while wrapping it around a length of twine. Candles were still used in the same manner, but they had superior quality and a longer lifespan than rushlights.

However, candle production was not only practiced by the Romans. Wicked candles were "invented" by numerous other ancient civilizations who also used local plant-based waxes. The eulachon fish, which is so oily that when dried, it would burn like a candle when you ignite one end, was used as a candle by tribes in Alaska and Canada. The Chinese used wrapped ricepaper as wicks. In India, wax was created from the fruit of the cinnamon tree.

Candles, in any form, were a significant component of religious rites throughout this time. The Jewish Festival of Lights, Hanukkah, was originally documented around 165 B.C. Constantine, the Roman emperor between 306 and 337 A.D., mandated the use of lamps during Easter celebrations. Indeed, from roughly the time of Constantine, lights have played a significant role in religious events and signify the purifying light of God.

Candle flames were seen by ancient peoples to reveal enigmatic things. One could experience an altered state of consciousness and see gods, spirits, or the future by gazing into a flame. In a magic ceremony for "dreaming true," or getting information from dreams, the late Egyptians of the third century B.C. utilized lamps and possibly candles. He retired to a pitch-black cave that faced south and sat there gazing into a flame till he saw a god. Then he went to sleep, hoping that the deity would show up in his dreams and provide him with the answers he was looking for.

The Roman Christian scholar Tertullian fiercely objected to the ancient Pagan practice of lighting candles and lights during religious ceremonies, calling it "the useless lighting of lamps at noon." Candles and lamps were used in Christian rites from the fourth century, but candles weren't put on church altars until the later Middle Ages, starting in the twelfth century. Consecrated holy candles are used in ceremonies for blessings, atonement for sins, and the exorcism of demons, all of which were instituted by the Catholic Church.

Using Candles In The Craft

Candles have long been used as versatile tools, but in witchcraft, they can also be used for divination, spirit sensing, casting spells, and a variety of other things. Let's jump right in.

Divination - Reading the wax and observing how the candle really burns are the two most popular techniques for candle divination. You must observe the candle's burning pattern, including its height, flickering, and the presence of many flames, in order to make a prediction based on how it burns. Two flames could indicate assistance from the afterlife in achieving your objective. Even the hues of the flame may give you a clue as to how well your efforts are going. However, there is no agreement on what these indications signify. While some practitioners hold that a candle that burns tall and strongly indicates that one's request will be granted, others draw attention to the fact that the wick's length and quality, as well as an air vent, can affect how the candle burns. Prioritize your intention over the candle's burning process. You can always read the wax once it hardens, or pour the wax directly into cold water for it to harden and then interpret the symbols, much like you would with bone throwing, or scrying. Personally, I also like to pay attention to the smoke and interpret the way the smoke from the candle flows in order to interpret surrounding energies.

Spirit Work - Fire scrying is the most common way to communicate with spirits, and as it's the only method with candles I have experience with, that's what I will be discussing here. I encourage you to do your own research into spirit communication outside of my suggestion, because I'm sure there are plenty other methods out there. Again, there is no base consensus in a means to interpretation, as spirits and practitioners alike have different ways of communication. Just like with any other scrying, its imperative to stay connected to your personal energy while connecting with surrounding energy to properly interpret the signals you are receiving. Connecting with deities is also possible using this method of Candle Magic.

Rituals/Spellwork - In rituals and spells, candles are used to increase vibrations, represent specific elements and other important objects or creatures, use symbolism, and seal items like letters or spell bottles. Even candle spells can be created simply lighting a candle with intention. It is very common to carve, dress, and anoint candles in aid for ritual and spellwork as well. Fire being the main force driving the work, of course.

Worship - Candles are often used as offerings for various deities. Symbolism, color, and dressings can all play a part of this as well. They are also used as a beacon for an entity to guide you through your working.

Candle Correspondences

When undertaking serious candle work, choosing the right candle colors is crucial. Each hue has a unique meaning and possesses unique abilities. It's crucial to pick colors that align with your aims while working with candles in spells or rituals. Please remember that this is a very basic list and that the things you will read in your personal correspondence are far more significant than anything you will read here.

White - Attraction, Purification, Protection, Balance, Clarity, Grounding, Healing, Hope, Innocence, Optimism, Peace, Truth, Willpower

White can take the place of any other color when not available. Just a bit of visualization is required.

Black - Acceptance, Afterlife, Banishing, Binding, Determination, Endings, Justice, Loss, Release, Break, Security, Grief, Negativity, Patience, Persistence, Rebirth, Strength, Self Control

Red - Assertiveness, Courage, Creativity, Energy, Desire, Loyalty, Motivation, Power, Survival, Change

Yellow - Action, Communication, Learning, Finances, Business, Intellect, Inspiration, Knowledge, Wisdom, Stimulation

Pink - Acceptance, Affection, Beauty, Compassion, Healing, Family, Harmony, Kindness, Longevity, Nurturing, Partnership, Prosperity

Even if you aren't aware of it, the type of candle and the type of wax it is made of may have an impact on your craft. It can all come down to functionality or magical implications.

Taper Candles

Taper candles are tall, thin candles with a tapered top; they are often placed in vintage, smaller candle jars and are more ornamental and symbolic. Shorter taper candles are typically used to seal objects with wax. They can, however, be utilized for any task.

Pillar Candles

There are many different types of pillar candles, but these are the ones I see used almost exclusively. They differ from being short and fat to being tall and slim. They can be utilized for a variety of purposes, but I've found that rituals are where they're most useful.

Votive Candles

Votive candles are little and barely taper more at the base. They are frequently placed in glass candle holders and are used as offerings to deities. Given that their modest, tapering size is what makes them votives, their sizes rarely fluctuate. But they do come in a variety of colors. They are often white.

Tealights

Tealights are tiny, thin, and short candles. You can use them to make offerings, perform spells and rituals, decorate, or even keep wax warmers warm. I frequently observe this kind of candle being used, largely because they are the least expensive candles available.

Now, let's go over some of the different wax types.

Beeswax

It used to be difficult and dangerous to obtain beeswax, which added to the candle's mystique and spiritual power. Beeswax is a natural substance that burns more slowly, making it a premium item among contemporary candle spiritual practitioners; yet, because of its price, it may not be the best choice. Beeswax candles are available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and hues and can be rolled, poured, or dipped. Longer ancestral rituals that demand higher vibrations and purpose work best with these candles.

Soy

People who use earth magic sometimes like soy candles since they are natural. Although they tend to burn for a shorter period of time than beeswax candles, they keep fragrances quite well. When dressed, they can also be extremely fragile and challenging to mold or carve. The majority of soy candles are already housed in glass. They are most effective when utilized in ancestral rituals for healing and rebirth.

Paraffin

Since it's a byproduct of the petroleum industry, many people consider it to be less natural than the available alternatives. The fact that it releases chemicals like toluene into the air makes it a poor choice for poorly ventilated areas. Other than providing the foundation for candles, I haven't discovered any sources that discuss the magickal powers of paraffin itself. I found a few for petroleum jelly, which is frequently used as a foundation for herbal salves, but they mainly praised how simple it was to use as an ointment. Even our non-human ancestors may have used petroleum, according to some sources, which makes it a solid foundation for ancestor magic.

City hall? My name is Kim Sam soon? Healer? Heartstrings? Princess Hours? Coffee prince?My princess? I especially miss SBS , MBC and KBS. You could understand which kdrama was produced by which channel from the lighting alone or the photography. I feel like TVN's dramas, while aesthetically pleasing, are for the Western audience and are so perfectly perfect.

I feel like an old lady saying things like "k-dramas were so much better before netflix took over" and "remember drama fever service?? SOB!," but I really miss my dramas and the wild range of them.

You want a specific kind of slice of life that takes risks without worrying about viewership? JTBC was your jam. Need something really low rent and old school? MBC!

Worried you can't find a k-drama? IMPOSSIBLE with both viki and drama fever! And the combined subscription was like $14 bucks a month.

Now I have to illegally watch 50% of my dramas, and pay netflix AND disney so they can cast the same huge stars with disappointing endings (I'm NOT looking at you Run On, you were a gift). Because these streaming giants only care about growth, after they screwed up the k-drama eco-system, there's literally nothing on. I went from struggling to keep up with all of the new releases to only watching 2. Finally, Viki doesn't really get many good dramas anymore because they can't afford to buy them, and lots of actors are struggling to find work.

As a side note, everyone should just give up and watch No Gain No Love. Is it miraculous? NO. Is it shiny and glossy like anon is complaining about? YES. But is it old school cute? You bet aside from the horrid Amazon Prime interface.

And another thing...

Korean news media hyping how BTS has continued to release content with no gap even while enlisted in the military.

"Is this BTS' military service?" astounded, like... what kind of military service is this where the members are still active while they are enlisted??

They've even coined a new term to describe it: Rubber Shoe Content.

Apparently this sort of thing has not been done before, at least not to this extent, when an idol group is on break fulfilling their military obligation and release things for the fans while they are away.

"They are creating a new activity model to fill the gap with so-called 'rubber shoe content' for fans waiting for BTS, from music videos and entertainment documentary films to offline events."

The planning that had to have occurred and length of time it took for all of this to be produced... BTS and their staff, along with their agency BigHit and the resources available to them via Hybe, were able to carry out this extensive effort so that we would continually have things to look forward to while they are away. They worked hard before enlisting for us.

And we know more is coming! Wait until K-news sees Jimin and Jungkook doing MMA in their sleep!!

Jikook Week 41 Complete (17/09 - 24/09/2024)

AYS finished on a high last Thursday and their 41st week in the military is now complete. It's time to celebrate with a look back at this week in 2022. It was the tail end of the Proof promotions (which culminated in the Busan Yet to Come concert).

On 17/09 the Proof Music Shows episode was released with behind the scenes at the KBS Music Bank, Inkigayo and MCountdown....

....and on 23/09 the Goal of the Century remix of Yet to Come was released with lyrics changed to fit the Qatar World Cup 2022.

Behind the scenes, Jimin was working hard on his own music. Gabriel Brandes, Alex Karlsson and ARCADES hinted at a new song with Jimin on social media.......

....and we only had to wait 1 year and 10 months to find out was Slow Dance feat. Sofia Carson. Things really do take time to blossom in Jimin's world.

Coincidentally (or not), Jimin came live on 18/09 (wearing his silver tag necklace which was a permanent fixture in his wardrobe all through 2022) and talked about the music he was making with internal and external producers in South Korea and the US.

He really had no idea what he was going to achieve with his solo releases. The splash he would make and the insatiable appetite for more Jimin music that would be created in both old and new fans.

The other big revelation in this live was that not only did Jimin have the moon phases tattooed all up his spine but that the inspiration for that had come from Taehyung showing him this fan art.

Thanks to both the artist and Taehyung for this particular inspiration. As Jimin says in the live, there was a time and a place for the big reveal and about six months later that time arrived.

And since then, well, we've been spoiled rotten.

ONEW recently got a personalized mic. It's a baby blue mic, and Zico (the MC) said that it matches well with his voice

ONEW talked about leaving SM and called it 'family's home', since he's still under SM as SHINee Griffin is more like his 'house'.

Since he moved to Griffin, ONEW said he's doing things he never did before, like the album production, searching for producers and songs... He said he's having fun with this stuff and added he thought he wouldn't be able to do things like this

ONEW explained that his fancon title (Hola) has a double meaning: it means goodbye but also can mean wave, something that goes up. There's also a track titled 'Hola' and ONEW wrote the lyrics (?), while he was writing it, he was thinking about a gum foil flying freely in the sky

after the success of your latest drama, your company thought it would be the perfect time for you to embark on a world tour - fans were at an all time high and interest in your career, both in korea and globally, was soaring. you were of course elated at this - the idea of seeing so many of your fans across the world was mind-blowing and an opportunity you couldn’t turn down.

of course, that meant many late nights powering through songwriting, producing, choreographing and discussing visuals for how you wanted your concert to look. finishing a drama, releasing an album and embarking on a tour in the span of a few months was more tiring than you’d ever know your job to be.

sadly, that meant a lot less time with your boyfriend, chan, too. between your chaotic schedule, and stray kids preparing for a comeback, you barely saw your partner. the most you’d been in the same space in the last month was a few fleeting hours after he’d gone to bed and before you’d woken up.

while chan was almost completely nocturnal, you were undeniably an early riser. you’d always been more productive in the early morning, opting to finish your tasks as early as you could, as to enjoy the rest of the day. it was a strange combination, but it worked wonderfully. you balanced each other out in the best way.

so whenever you could, you invited chan to come and watch you rehearse. you also did the same with many of your friends, enjoying the fleeting time you got to spend in the same place at the moment, but chan was alway top of your list. some friends liked to turn up and surprise you too, appearing in the practice room or the venue you were rehearsing at to shower you with support and gifts.

just like today.

in your recent drama, you had played a florist who never believed in real love, being swept up into the world of a handsome model with whom she inevitably fell for. you were beyond lucky to feature in such a star-studded cast in such a respected and well-received drama, and even luckier to have someone like nct’s jaehyun playing your romantic counterpart.

the two of you had become increasingly close during filming, and you both walked away from set having gained a true friend for life. jaehyun was like a brother to you - worryingly because of all the fans of your drama that shipped you off-screen, and because of how awkward it made filming kiss scenes.

sometimes the enthusiasm of the fans wanting you to date got a bit much - you and chan were very open about your relationship, and you had made it very clear both publicly and privately that you and jaehyun were strictly friends. but that didn’t stop people from taking a sweet, platonic moment and running with it.

thats why you were kind of glad no one saw jaehyun entering the kbs arena, where you were currently rehearsing for your opening concert the next week.

jaehyun had walked in with a bunch of flowers and a smile while you were taking a break,and you were ecstatic to see him. it had been too long, in your opinion. placing down your water bottle, you jogged over to him, wrapping him in a tight hug.

“jae! what are you doing here?”

he shrugged, offering you the flowers - which you gratefully took. “can’t be in the gangseo district without coming to see my favorite florist rehearsing, can i?”

mood and energy skyrocketing, you and jaehyun sat down, digging into the lunch provided by your company’s staff, catching up on anything and everything worth gossiping about since you last saw each other.

unbeknownst to you, however, chan had also arrived just after jaehyun approached you, hoping to catch you on your lunch break and have a chance to eat with you. upon seeing you with jaehyun, however, he hesitated.

he knew that you and your co-star had become very close friends during the grueling months of filming, and he was more than understanding of it. after all, he had grown up with twice and was undeniably close to the 9 girls under the same company as him. so, he didn’t understand why his stomach flipped and his chest tightened at the sight of you laughing with another man.

you and chris had a very solid relationship. you had sat down and created boundaries and expectations before you even entered into your relationship 2 years ago, and you never had any reason to distrust each other. he also knew how much you had missed your friend in the months you had been so busy, and completely understood why you were so excited to see him.

so, he stood back and chatted with your staff, letting you have some time with jaehyun before approaching you. he was willing to wait, fighting to ignore the worming thoughts of anxiety in the back of his head. he wasn’t that kind of boyfriend, he told himself, so he had no reason to get upset.

laughing loudly to a story jaehyun had told you, you caught a glimpse of familiar blonde curls across the dining hall, heart jumping when you focused and realized it was your beloved boyfriend.

“channie! hi, baby! come here!” you called, unable to fight off a grin and blush when chan smiled and walked over to you and jaehyun.

“hi, babygirl.” he chuckled at your enthusiastic state, kissing the top of your head as he took a seat next  to you.

he was quickly dragged into your ongoing conversation, catching up himself with jaehyun and enjoying having some time with you. on the other hand, you noticed that chan was being a lot more clingy than usual - having a hand on your waist or thigh the entire time, and constantly leaning in to plant kisses across your cheek and head.

not that you were complaining in the slightest. it had been too long since you got to feel chan’s presence this close to you, and your heart was soaring at the mere idea of it. just having him so close made you decide to ask for a couple of days rest, and spend it wrapped up in his arms in your shared apartment. he truly was the love of your life, and you had missed him more than words could describe recently.

but something was definitely off with him. you and chan were known to be a very touchy couple, pda being right up your street for two people whose love language was physical touch - but this was different. this was like he was trying to prove a point. but, why would he-...... oh.

the realization that chris was jealous that you were spending time with jaehyun, while unnecessary, was actually very cute. you knew deep down the incessant shipping of you and you co-worker by fans got under his skin sometimes, but regardless you had a very solid relationship. so, in some strange way, you found it endearing that he would still get jealous.

after about an hour, jaehyun announced that he’d have to take his leave - he had a schedule with his group and needed to head back to his company - leaving you and chris to bask in each other for a bit longer.

climbing onto his lap, you curled up in your boyfriend’s arms, hands instinctively reaching to fuss with his hair. “i’ve missed you, honey,” you sighed. “been too long since i got to see you properly.”

“missed you too, baby. just glad i caught you when you weren’t too busy.” the smile on his face was soft, but there was a slight bit to his voice that he was sure you would miss - he wasn’t even intending for it to come out.

your eyebrows furrowed slightly, leaning back to look at his face, quickly noticing the sour expression on his face. something was clearly bothering him, between the touchiness and snappy attitude, but you couldn’t figure out what it was.

shifting your position so you were straddling his lap, you cupped his face in your palms. sighing softly, you stroked the frustration wrinkles out of his skin, concern showing on your face.

“wanna tell me what’s going on in that pretty head of yours, bubs?”

“its nothing, angel,” chan huffed, hands sitting on your waist. “just being silly and overthinking again.”

you wholeheartedly disbelieved that was the case, knowing chan better than he knew himself sometimes. racking your brain, you begged yourself to pick something out that could be the cause of his current despair. until it hit you.

“this wouldn’t happen to have anything to do with a certain coworker of mine, would it?”

when chris couldn’t hide the way his eyes rolled and ears flushed scarlet, you knew you had hit the jackpot. clearly something with jaehyun had upset chris, or even just slightly annoyed him - he was never any good at hiding his emotions.

“tell me what’s up, channie. i can’t help fix it if i don’t know what’s wrong.” you gently pushed, hoping he would cave under your proximity and allow you to share the burden of what was affecting him.

he was silent for a few moments, eyes screwed shut and his grip on your waist tightening slightly. then he blew out a breath, his grip loosening once again as he looked up at you with those big, brown eyes you adored.

“i just- sometimes i think the fans that ship you two are right. you get along so well, and seeing him surprise you here today just… kinda made me think maybe you would work better than us. and the thought hurt. i wanna be the one who makes you smile like that when i surprise you.”

chan’s confession made your heart drop. was he really that jealous of jaehyun and your friendship? had you done something to make him feel this way?

“love… you know you have no reason to be jealous, or upset, or worried? jaehyun is just a friend, and just a coworker. and you know i tolerate the shipping less than you do.”

you prayed that your reassurance would help, but when he simply shrugged you knew it was too much. sometimes chan’s anxiety got the better of him, and in those times it was hard to get through to him. even if he knew you were telling the truth, something in the back of his head told him that maybe he wasn’t good enough.

but you persisted.

“no one could ever compare to you, my love. you’re my hope, my light. and no matter who comes along, they could never make me feel as much love and appreciation as you.”

a small smile tugged at his lips, and you breathed a sigh of relief that your words were getting through to him.

“i know,” chris mumbled through his ambivalent expression. “i know, and i have no reason to feel like this. i’m sorry, baby, i didn’t mean to worry you, i just get scared one day you’ll realize you could do better.”

you both let out a little chuckle, amused by the way you were both talking like the end of the world was beginning. you softly kissed his full lips, with one last promise of forever in your throat.

“chris, baby. i get it. you don’t have to apologize. just remember that i got paid to kiss him as a character, while in character,” you jabbed him in the chest lightly to emphasize your point. “but you - not him, nor anyone else - you are the one i come home to at the end of the day.”

his face was flushed with emotion, shining through his eyes and into the way his dimples creased his skin as he looked at you with so much love you thought you would burst into a heap of fluff.

I read the lyrics of Wife and they're even worse than Queencard. I'm too afraid to listen to it, I can only hope that the rest of the album isn't like this nonsense. I miss their old music and lyrics, it was poetry in comparison to whatever they're doing now :(

I will always defend someone’s right to not vibe with the style of the song bc that’s personal taste. But if you say Wife has gibberish lyrics I’m assuming you rely very superficially on only English translations because KBS has deemed the song too sexual for broadcast, so it’s definitely not “nonsense”. It isn’t in English either. The mv, the styling, the lyrics, they’re all full of metaphor and satire (detailed here and here and here).

I don’t think you’ll like when you listen to the song because your mind seems already set. Honestly I don’t think you’ll like anything they put out because as you say, you miss their old sound and music, whatever you think that means. Nxde was just a comeback ago. Senorita and dumdi dumdi were terribly unserious. I don’t think latata and uh oh were that groundbreaking either. I do wonder if you’re the same anon I answered a while ago?

If you’re using pre and post Soojin as old and new I just think you need to be more honest with yourself about why you don’t like their new songs anymore. For the reasons stated above, I think it’s way beyond what you deem sensical lyrics and good music. Gidle has a wide range, they’re versatile and always with a new concept, to the point I’ve seen people calling them inconsistent. So if none of their very different to each other comebacks has been appealing to you, there can be other reasons than the ones you’re trying to rationalize. Soyeon will not produce gidle as it is now the same way she would as it were then. And I will miss Soojin in the group until I perish but it will never be because I want them to return to their old “better style”. I’d kill to see Soojin tomboying and queencarding.

I love the fun they bring to kpop. I love to see them act confidently “silly”. Even the silliness is debatable, as it is intentional, as it’s not mindless, because they ARE making statements, whether you recognize it or not, and also regardless if you approve of the way it is made. Gidle is thriving with a method a lot of groups can’t afford to. They’re grown women doing grown women business, they’re self made and self produced and paraphrasing one of the videos linked above, they’re not gonna say something unless they have something to say. They’re always innovating, they never follow a formula, there’s barely a pattern between comebacks except for the fact that it’s always them. It’s who they are and what they want to show. That’s what I love about them, that’s what makes every comeback interesting. And this has not changed, not even once.

"For real!?", he immediately hugged you. Words of congratulations were heard around the studio.

After you two settle down. The staff asked him, how you guys felt. "It feels great to be here after watching so many other people being interviewed here, thank you for inviting us!", you cheered. Felix sniffled quietly with his slightly red nose and teary eyes.

Jimin's 'LIE' is a masterpiece of K-pop.

I want to remind people of some of the self-destructive behavior we see conducted by giant corporations.

Today's giant US and Multinational Corporations do not exist to produce goods and services people need or want.

Instead, these giant corporations act as passthroughs to funnel money directly into the pockets of shareholders. Corporations will often engage in self-destructive or self-harming policies that bankrupt their companies, but manage to funnel ENORMOUS funds into shareholder pockets in the meantime. Then, we quickly see the govt swoop in and use tax-payer dollars to back the losses of those shareholders, making it so they've privatized the gains and socialized the losses.

These companies's behavior can often seem completely inexplicable when looked at outside the context of dividend payments and dividend recapitalization.

Dividend recapitalization itself is one the greatest examples of ruinous behavior by a corporation that benefits shareholders at the expense of employees and customers both.

A Dividend Recapitalization occurs when a company decides to go into debt with the express purpose of using that debt to pay dividends to shareholders and nothing else. None of the borrowed money is reinvested in the company or its employees.

This can easily result in a company's bankruptcy if it falls onto hard times immediately following a Dividend Recapitalization.

For example, in April 2002, KB Toys went deeply into debt to perform a Dividend Recapitalization, paying tens of millions of dollars in dividends to its shareholders and investors. By January 2004, KB Toys had filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, citing its Dividend Recapitalization process as the reason for its bankruptcy.

And you can find endless examples of this throughout recent history. It is unquestionable that Dividend Recapitalization is harmful, not just to the companies in question, but to the millions of tax payers who take a hit every time something like this happens.

The logical answer would be to ban Dividend Recapitalization completely, but our corrupt Neoliberal Govt is only interested in serving the desires of the Ruling Class. They could care less that Dividend Recapitalization often comes at a price for Taxpayers.

It is undoubtable that we need to have democratic control over the economy. At the moment, we barely have any democratic control over any other part of our society, let alone the economy.

It is well past time the Working Class of the US rise up in rebellion against the Capitalist Class and all their various tools of control that allow them to manipulate elections and retain control over the political machinery of the United States.

Recently surfaced North Korean footage has captured the North Korean government's crackdown on citizens, including teenagers, for consuming banned South Korean media.

The footage, obtained by South Korean production company KBS Media, shows a public denunciation session where a group of young girls, including a 16-year-old student, are publicly humiliated and arrested for the offense.

Pyongyang maintains tight control over the flow of information within its borders, forbidding citizens from accessing foreign music, films, and TV series. Those caught violating these restrictions face severe penalties, including public shaming, imprisonment, and in some cases, execution.

The Kim Jong Un regime views South Korean media as a direct threat to its ideological purity and legitimacy, heightening crackdowns on such content in recent years.

The footage shows a young girl identified only as Choi, breaking down in tears during a public denunciation session—a form of organized group criticism employed by communist regimes such as North Korea, the former Soviet Union, and China under former Chairman Mao Zedong.

"I made the mistake of listening to and distributing impure published propaganda," Choi said into the microphone during the hearing, according to KBS's translation. The footage then shows her being led away in handcuffs.

Though such public punishments are commonplace, a North Korean defector surnamed Jang who fled the country in 2020 expressed shock at the public punishment of someone so young.

"I've never seen school students punished like this before," she told KBS. "The fact that they were handcuffed is really shocking to me."

The video is part of over 10 recordings obtained by KBS, most of which were produced after May 2021.

North Korea closed its borders in early 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The country finally reopened its borders to returning citizens in August 2023.

North Korea's rigid control over media intensified in 2020 when Pyongyang enacted what has been dubbed the "evil laws" as part of its crackdown on perceived external threats to ensure loyalty to the regime.

These laws target foreign cultural products, including media and also South Korean slang.

"The North Korean authorities have been policing and cracking down on foreign culture for over a decade now, but the three new laws formalize and strengthen the draconian punishment for the offenders," Ethan Hee-Seok Shin, a legal analyst for Seoul-based NGO the Transitional Justice Working Group, told Newsweek.

Shin pointed out that the degree of punishment is linked to the gravity of the offense.

"The distributors are generally more harshly punished than the consumers," he said. "Similar to how other countries would deal with narcotics-related crimes."

The South Korean Ministry of Unification's 2023 report on human rights abuses in the North highlighted testimonies from defectors who witnessed public executions of young adults simply for watching K-dramas and listening to K-pop.

Pyongyang earlier this year amended its constitution to label Seoul as its primary enemy.

Despite the harsh punishments, South Korean media continues to penetrate North Korea, often via activists in the South who send USB drives filled with dramas and music into the North using balloons.

USB drives filled with South Korean media sent north by activists in the South have further inflamed tensions. The North has retaliated by sending balloons south laden with trash, and in some cases human waste.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson previously told Newsweek that Washington, DC advocates human rights and the free flow of information in and out of North Korea and condemns the country's three "evil laws" and "draconian punishments and youth targeting."

The North Korean embassy in Beijing, China, and U.S. State Department did not immediately respond to written requests for comment.
