So I went to go download some books onto my kindle and I noticed this when I sent .mobi files to my kindle email.

I have no idea why Kindle would stop supporting .mobi files for upload. Mobi has always been preferable to me over .epub because the formatting tends to be a bit nicer, but it seems that will no longer be an option. Of course there are still other formats, listed on the kindle's help site:

Supported file types include: Microsoft Word (.DOC, .DOCX) HTML (.HTML, .HTM) RTF (.RTF) Text (.TXT) JPEG (.JPEG, .JPG) GIF (.GIF) PNG (.PNG) BMP (.BMP) PDF (.PDF) EPUB (.EPUB)

I'll keep sending mobi files to my Kindle library until it stops, even if that may only be an option for the rest of October. Which is like, 3 days. I hope this helps anyone who uses the kindle library upload system.

ok someone please correct me if i'm wrong but am i weird for thinking those 'audiobooks don't count as reading' posts are ableist as fuck????

#ramble #my first thought was like: how is this even a debate what about blind people. not every book comes in braille but MOST have an audiobook #or dyslexic people #you still enjoyed the book!! you still absorbed it!!! you got EXACTLY the same thing as people who read the words!!!#how does it not count????#i guess you miss out on the 'learning new vocab' you get through seeing the words but also #i don't really do audiobooks but i do a lot of podcasts esp fiction podcasts #and i have ABSOLUTELY picked up new stuff from there that helps with my writing #someone please explain how this is even an argument of COURSE it counts????#idk in my opinion finishing a book means 'i put the words in my brain and i thought about them and i enjoyed a story'#not 'i held a stack of paper in my hands for a bit'#i'm v lucky that i do have time to sit and read. and whenever i commute anywhere it's public transport so i CAN bring a book with me #but if i didn't have the free time or had to drive for hours everywhere i would be STOKED to still get to enjoy books #it's been REALLY bothering me lmao idk why i feel so strongly #for some reason it's giving the same energy as like. being told you can't take a comic or manga from the library bc it's not a 'real' book #of course it's a real book it's a story somebody wrote down #i can see this spiralling into 'if you have a kindle you aren't reading'. you have to sniff the paper. feel the papercuts

You only have a book buying problem if you have disposable income. If you're poor you have a book downloading problem. Book piracy is the great equaliser because even broke people get the chance to organize and re-organize a thousand books they'll never read.

does anyone have an ereader and read lots of poetry and/or pdfs on it and if so which ereader would you recommend

#no kindle please fuck amazon but I keep going back n forth between several kobo models ugh #clara 2e has pocket app + lots of good features for a reasonable price but kobo sage seems so good + stylus compatible but pricier #but also like what if I don’t like reading on an ereader at all & I spent all that money.....cuz I’ll prob still mainly read physical books #so it would just be for poetry collections and maybe some pdfs of books that r not in my library / too expensive 2 buy #anyway please help me <3 Im the worst at making decisions like that

Personal Library (02/20/2024)

As of today my physical library has grown to 431 books. My kindle library has grown to 10 books. So far, I've only read 114 of the physical books and 5 of the Kindle books. of course both libraries continue to grow, so I've got that going for me. 😅

How do you keep going to concerts multiple times a month including taylor swift an buying records and books when you always complain about not having money and being broke.

i bought the tickets an ENTIRE YEAR before the actual concert. my friend and i booked the cheapest hotel we could find and went there by train for which i had a coupon for too. what the fuck are you talking about??? i financially support my parents too but i maybe wanna live as well? you couldn't even fathom the fucking poverty i grew up in like shut the fuck up (and still live in at this point!)
