Day 1 of AUgust: Sightless

CHAPTER 1 — TATIA

It was an accident, he’d told her. He never meant for it to happen, he said in between mad ramblings. His face had been bashed in, Niklaus barely noticeable through the disfiguration. It was horrible—no man, no son should have been punished, beaten within an inch of his life. 

“I deserved it…” Niklaus croaked, his split lip curling in a wry smile. How could Esther, much less Elijah stand for this?! “This is nothing to what Henr—”

Tatia pressed the cool herbal salve tight over his bleeding skin. “You are without fault, Niklaus.”

I never thought about it before, but now that the idea is in front of me, I think Klena would have been absolutely WILD had it happened, and it would have made a lot sense for Klaus's character. He's been waiting for a thousand years to break this curse, and suddenly Elena comes, and easily gives him everything he's wanted, she doesn’t die like Tatia, she doesn’t run like Katherine, and she's also the key to making his hybrids. I also think Elena could have been a compelling character had the writers treated her as one. She is smart, she has daggersd two Originals after all, I think she could have empowered Klaus in ways that others maybe couldn't, because he can't kill her since he needs her, and while she's physically not strong, she can be pretty manipulative sometimes. It would have been INSANE if they had a thing, they would have been absolutely toxic but a great dynamic for a show like the vampire diaries.

I like toxic ships, I won't lie, but only if they're well executed, have a solid reason as to why the people dating even got interested in each other (this is why I like klaurora and enjoy the dynamic delena has, but don't like klaroline or bonkai) and I do feel Elena and Klaus would fall into this category. They had potential for a relationship, just not a healthy one.

Don't bring up that it would be ooc for Elena to fall in love with Klaus after he murdered Jenna: she's married to Damon, who raped her best friend and who literally killed her brother, so let's skip this unneeded discussion, because tvdu writers are always retconning their characters for ships/the narrative. I've talked and recommended her fanfic a thousand times, but Fairytale Ending by @livlepretre really, really touches what I think would be canon klena. They're toxic, screwed up and yet they love each other in their own fucked up way. It's so good written too, and it makes Klaus look even more fucked up than in canon which I just love.

Despite how tvd made her look, Elena is clever and resourceful and she also looks like Tatia, who was Klaus’s first heartbreak, and knowing how obsessive and screwed up he is with the women he loves romantically it's strange he didn't try to do anything physical or romantic with her. Just imagine Klaus and Elijah repeating history with Elena by falling in love with her, just because she shares the face of the two women they both wanted at one point. It would be so twisted yet such an interesting dynamic to watch, at least for me.

It obviously wouldn't be healthy, but it would be so ironic to have Klaus falling for the girl he's supposed to kill. If they had met in different circumstances, then maybe they wouldn't be as toxic, but I do get the appeal of klena and why people ship them.

And personally, ships where the other person stresses the fuck out of Klaus will always be my favorite.

Elijah and Klaus watch as Tatia and you dance to the music by the big bonfire. Everyone in the village thinks that you're best friends, you're rarely ever seen apart. Which is what you both want everyone to think, knowing what would happen if they knew the truth.

The truth that only the two Mikaelson brothers know. They promised you both that they would keep your secret to the grave.

You guys laugh and twirl each other around. Dancing with some of the younger children when they come up to you guys.

You wave over the two young men to come have fun. "Oh come on, stop being so stoic, have some fun," Tatia tells them. Before long, the four of you are laughing and having the time of your lives.

Everything is perfect.

Until it isn't.

You watch in horror as Esther bleeds your girlfriend out, collecting her blood in a basin. You try stopping her with a blade that is lying on a stool. As you close on her, she mutters something and the blade goes flying out of your hand to the other side of the room.

You let out a scream before noticing how she let go of Tatia who's barely breathing, onto the floor. She advances up to you before dragging you over to the basin as well, using the same knife she used on Tatia, on you, bleeding you out into the basin.

Your love's and your blood mixes together in the basin. Your eyes feel heavy by the time Esther's done with you. She drops you next to Tatia and picks the basin up before leaving through the wooden door.

You turn to the best of your abilities to Tatia, who is blinking slowly as well. Her frown turns into a small smile seeing you. Her mouth parts slightly, "I love you" She whispers just loud enough for you to hear.

"I love you too" you muster up strength and whisper back. That's the last thing that happens before everything's dark.

The room is silent, no more breaths of air emitting from your guys' forms on the ground.

If Klaus Mikaelson was not dangling a sword at the throat of every one of his love interests, do you think he would be the type to get bored of people? Would he perhaps date more often?

Elijah doesn't get bored of people.

We see this in TO season 1. He doesn't allow himself to fall in love easily but when he does, he falls hard. And he holds onto that love until he dies.

I firmly believe he loved Tatia, Celeste, and Hayley until his last breath. Even 200 years after Celeste's death he is still honoring his love for her. Even 1,000 years after Tatia's death, her death still haunted him.

I think his devotion to those he loves goes back further than Klaus' abuse. I partly believe it is just his personality. He is loyal beyond belief (beyond reason) and loves very deeply. But I also think it is how he was raised. He was born into a time of mourning in his family and it is clear he was neglected when he was very young. This greatly impacted the rest of his life. He wasn't given love as a child so when he loves others, he loves intensely.

Now I do think there is a misconception that Elijah doesn't date a lot. I think he actually does. We see him having more love interests than any of the other Mikaelsons (maybe even Rebekah). He didn't allow himself to fall in love with them, but he did care for them. Even with the threat of Klaus, he still started seeing Gia pretty quickly after Hayley's wedding. And before Hayley, he was seeing Katherine. I personally believe Elijah has issues being alone. If he is not close with his family at the moment, he needs to find comfort in someone else.

So I don't think dating was an issue for him, but I do think he would have allowed himself to love more people if Klaus hadn't been a constant threat to all of their lives.

Day 5: Truth Potion/Serum/Spell

I had fun writing this! And yes, I'm posting ti so fast after the other one, bc its almost not the 5th for me anymore and I do want this out on the 5th like its supposed to be!

And I'm introducing a new au for this one! It's called An Original Mother, and I hope that yall enjoy!

Elijah sat down in the circle, masking her nervousness. A simple truth circle, to make sure they all knew what they would be getting into with this marriage. Because no, Niklaus didn’t trust the mother of his child to have their family’s best interests at heart, so who does he also involve in this? His big sister, of course!

And it wasn’t as though Elijah wasn’t attracted to them. Of course she was! Both her spouses-to-be were incredibly attractive, and she would probably have flirted with them at some point if this wasn’t happening. Hell, she’d even slept with Jackson’s uncle, his cousin once removed! She was literally the mother of Jackson’s second cousins! So it wasn’t as though Hayley or Jackson weren’t her type.

It’s just that… Elijah preferred to be the one choosing when she was to marry people. Especially for political marriages. She’d done it before, to buy protection, she could do it again. She just preferred when she was the one deciding whether or not she was doing it, rather than her younger brother.

Niklaus himself, standing on the outside of the circle looking in, looked awful smug about this. And why would he not? His reunion with his son was going well, his sister was marrying the mother of his child and said woman’s fiance from birth for the safety of his child. All Niklaus’ plans seemed to be coming to fruition, he had no real reason to not be smug about it.

Even though Elijah was going to make him pay for this. First, he daggered her, because she was a weakness Marcel could use against him. (And to be fair, he was probably right about that. Marcel was still her beloved nephew, and she’d helped her brother raise him. If Niklaus had gone too far in it, Elijah would’ve stepped in against him.)

Then, after she’s woken up, he doesn’t even know where she is, and she has to rescue herself! Although Davina was a lovely young witch, and Elijah looked forward to meeting again with her great-niece at a later date, Marcel and Niklaus notwithstanding.

And then, as soon as she arrives home, Niklaus doesn’t even bother to check that she’s alright. She’d been daggered for five months! He could’ve at least said hello, or offered her some blood! But no, instead he just tells her that she’s to marry his one night stand and her wolfy fiance, to buy protection so said fiance’s pack can help them.

The old woman standing at the head of the circle starts to chant, pulling Elijah’s attention back to the present. She was still annoyed at Niklaus, and she definitely wished he wasn’t here now, but there was nothing to do about it at the moment.

It wasn’t entirely certain how they would do this, if anyone was willing to be honest about it. It was typically for werewolves, both inactivate and active, and used the magic of the curse to help them along. It had been done in the past with humans and witches, but a vampire had never married into a pack before.

This was going to be an all new experience, especially given that they didn’t know how the vampire curse would affect the ritual. Maybe it would backfire entirely.

Elijah started a little, as a warm hand brushed hers. She looked up into the eyes of its owner, seeing Jackson’s staring back into her. They seemed familiar to her, and suddenly, Elijah was sucked into the memories of her first marriage.

A ritual circle, with both Elijah’s mother and her brother’s mentor Ayanna around the outside with the alpha of the wolf pack, chanting over them. Elijah had been filled with giddiness, glancing between Tatia and Garmr, none of them able to keep their excited grins hidden.

She’d gazed into Garmr’s eyes before they’d gone in, as he’d reassured her that nothing bad would happen. As she looked into Jackson’s eyes in the present, Elijah could almost hear her late husband’s voice, promising that it would all be okay.

        one of them had started at a new school and of course, tatia had seen it as her duty to be a part of this day. hidden in the shadows, for no one visible. she had a smile on her face as she saw that liam seemed to be happy. that was all tatia needed to know.

Elena turned around and hurriedly disappeared in the black car that waited for her.

Klaus Mikaelson gazed into the black night as he could not see the flicker of the red light of the Porsche disappeared.

"Hey, mate," Jackson Kenner came up to his friend tapping him on the shoulder, "we're going. Are you coming with us."

"Yes." The wolf said turning to his friend.

"Are you all right?" Hayley asked seeing the man's face draped with a mix of dreamy absence.

"I am." Klaus replied.

"Who was the woman you danced with?" Tyler inquired.

"Her name was Elena. That's all I know. Come on. Let's go." Klaus said and now led the way to his friend's car.

At the same time, in the Porsche, Elena Gilbert swiped the call open.

"Elijah- yes- I am fine. I will soon be on the plane. See you in a few hours. I got the amulet. Did you find her?"

"No. Unfortunately, it was a wrong address. I have to go. I will see you soon." Elijah said and hung up.

Elena sighed a little gazing outside the window in the dark her head beaming up in the clouds as her thoughts swayed with the music and the man. Nik.

every love interest in klaus' life was so important for his character growth, all three women represented something for him, which is why they are the only ones he ever got truly attached (romantically) to. Just hear me out.

1) Aurora De Martel.

Aurora was the remaining innocence he had left. a little boy who just wanted to be loved and enough for someone to stay. she was the first person ever he trusted to share his secret about killing his mother, because he hated being a monster but thats what he was, and he wanted her to accept him just like that. the first love and the first heartbreak.

2) Caroline Forbes.

Caroline was the glory of immortality.

the love for power and youth, the feeling of being strong, unstoppable and fearless.

she was the only person he met that actually loved the vampirism and understood its real beauty. she showed him that even a vampire, a monster, can be good, can show love, mercy, kindness and forgiveness and that won't make them any less powerful. thats also besides the fact that they kind of shared the same insecurities, character growth and the trauma of nearly getting killed by their parents.

3) Camille O'connell.

Camille was the fragile humanity.

another perspective of life. the human klaus wished he could have been once, full of hope, positive, confident, cheerful and clueless.

she was the person who taught him that its okay to be powerless, delicate and vulnerable, and helped him to find his own path to the light and become a better person, not for her, but for his little daughter.

All three of them were an important chapter in his life that could not be ignored or overlooked. such beautiful and powerful women.

do you think elijah would have fallen for bonnie if she ended up with one of his siblings?

i assume you're asking because he was into hayley after she slept with klaus but she was never in a relationship with klaus. they had a one night stand. elijah's white knight ass just liked being the protector in that situation. we have never seen elijah fall for someone who was in an actual, genuine relationship with any of his siblings, whereas klaus and rebekah's codependent weird asses have done all types of weird shit.

elijah's irritating ass attitude towards his siblings' relationships are often dismissive, when he acknowledges them at all. if she's dating kol, she's just ignored until he needs her, because so is kol. if she's dating rebekah, she has the best chance of being treated well. if she's dating klaus, it depends on how he feels about klaus at the moment.

besides that, bonnie has historically been a nonfactor for elijah. he betrayed them and never said shit to her about it. he got her mother killed and wrote an apology letter to elena. as much as it's about elena is the protagonist, elijah literally did not care about anyone in the mystic falls gang besides her (not that i would expect him to?) whereas other characters have expressed an interest in at least one or two other members of the mfg while tormenting or helping them. not bonnie, not caroline, not the salvatores, not alaric, etc. i don't think her being an active part of his siblings' lives is going to change that if her being someone who tried to kill them, and came close to it, wouldn't.

if it's the scenario that bonnie is pregnant by klaus instead of hayley, i still don't think he's going to fall in love with her because he isn't going to get to play protector or have her thinking he can be her savior. bonnie doesn't need him, and more importantly, would not rely on him. if she had to rely on any mikaelson, it would be rebekah or klaus (begrudgingly). his focus would be on the baby, which would rub bonnie the wrong way, which would mean they would be even more distant than anything.

if their individual relationship became anything, it would be allies and maybe friends down the way once he starts treating her like her own person and not someone who can do something for klaus (and ergo, the family).

I have always thought that Klaus probably painted many pictures with Tatia's face. He never got over her, he spent entire nights painting that face over and over again. His obsession with her face only got worse after Katherine escaped from him, but now every time he painted it again it was with a mixture of adoration and hatred in equal measure.

I can well imagine him doing paintings where Katherine is being tortured (often by him). The bastard even painted a huge painting depicting the moment where Katherine finds her family slaughtered.

It wasn't until he heard of Elena's existence that Klaus returned to painting that face with the same adoration with which he painted Tatia. His last work before going to Mystic Falls was a painting where he finally breaks his curse; he paints himself holding his new doppelganger in his arms while drinking her precious blood to death...

Okay, so this is incredible to receive, and that headcanon of yours, well, I kinda want to dive right into it, so here we go.

I agree, Klaus never got over Tatia, she was his first love after all. he must've spent countless hours reminiscing over her, and once he could, he absolutely drew her. He likely also hallucinated her asking him to join in her in death when he was afflicted by the hunters curse. And I'm sure that even after the curse was lifted, he was still enamoured with the idea of her, although I doubt he seriously contemplated ending his life after that.

The Katerina one is also fantastic, but I think Klaus was already torturing her when she was on the run. All his life, Klaus has only truly feared one person - Mikael. And for most of his life, that fear was evoked just by rumours of his presence. Klaus hated that Katherine got away, but the way he killed her family, the staging of it, the cruelty of it, was obviously (imo) an imitation of how Mikael tortures him over the centuries. Klaus wanted to make Katherine suffer so he did it in the way that he knows suffering. (Also, is there any gifset of this parallel? The way Klaus staged Katherine's family and the way Mikael staged Marcel and the others in the opera in NOLA?)

Although, now that you've brought this up, Klaus definitely has some paintings of him just torturing his enemies, made in one of his mood swings. And when he does torture them, he likely adds hints of their blood to it like accents. I bet they're hidden away like those letters he collects from his victims.

And Elena, that painting of her being drained by him, I think it's likely the crown jewel of his collection. (Can I include that in some work? Because I can imagine Elena being horrified and fascinated if she finds it.) The adoration with which he paints her lasts till he learns she's alive and then comes back when he realises how inextricably linked to her he is.

This is seriously such a fascinating message though, I love everything about this! Thank you so much for sending me this, and I hope you don't mind the lengthy discussion that followed! (I love diving into Klaus' psyche - so many layers and so rich.)

CHAPTER TWELVE~ LET IT ALL OUT ~ SEE YOU IN MY NIGHTMARES

“Brother, please—”

“Shut up.”

Klaus shoves Finn into a nearby armchair.

“Where is she?” he growls, putting his hands on both sides of the armchair with a menacing gaze at the man before him. 

“Curious, aren’t you?” Finn chuckles lowly.

“Amused, are we?” Elijah looks at Finn over his shoulder as he surveys his nails. “Come on, brother, I think we make it very clear we’re not in the mood to play games.” 

“Really, Elijah?” Finn cocks his head to the side. “You aren’t? Tell me, how are you after Mother’s intervention? I’m sure your history must be a marvelous play at the moment.”

“You—”

Elijah launches forward, fingers itching to tear the skin off of his stupid brother and his stupid face.

“Elijah—” Hayley and Klaus step between, shielding Finn from the evidently enraged Original. 

“Brother, you need to calm down,” Klaus grunts, his voice dropping lower as he resisted Elijah’s efforts to break through him and Hayley “If you keep up this attitude, we are not going to get any answers from him.” 

Elijah’s chest heaves, eyes blazing dark at Finn’s chained figure.

“Fine,” Elijah shoves off Klaus’s hand, his lower lip curling in contempt. “But if he does anything—”

“You’ll do what?” drawls Finn. “Kill me? Drown me in the deepest, darkest depths of the Pacific? Sentence me to an endless slumber with those damned silver daggers you keep around?” 

“We aren’t going to do any of those,” Cami sharply cuts in, pulling Elijah behind her. 

“Unless you tell us when Elena is,” Hayley adds with a twisted smile. 

Finn lets out a low chuckle. 

“Changed your tune to the doppelgänger, now?” Finn scrutinizes Elijah and Klaus in mock concern. “I thought you’d be happy! After all, Niklaus, haven’t you of all people wished you eradicated those women off of the face of this planet?”

“What changed your mind? Or rather,” Finn leans forward. “A change of heart, I suppose? Are the brothers back to a thousand-year-old triangle again?”

This time, it took both Hayley and Cami collectively to restrain Klaus and Elijah, specifically the former, itching to tear Finn apart piece-by-piece, sew him back together, and do it again until Finn’s screams left him satiated enough to make him stop.
