Okay after seeing that event of an episode (seriously so much crazy shit happened) I really hope they talked it out afterwards and made sure everyone was doing okay and also still loved each other, because that was a RIDE

What's fascinating about the lack of empathy from a certain set of shippers that you and ultilitycaster have been discussing is that it doesn't just extend to refusing to empathize with characters outside the ship, even characters like Percy who we've had a whole campaign's worth of insight into, but they also refuse to empathize with characters IN the ship if the way they're behaving doesn't fit with the idea they've built up about what the relationship should be. Case and point the gharlrock fight you mentioned in your tags. People were so upset with Imogen because she dared to react to the situation in a way that put her in conflict with Laudna, even though her reaction was totally justifiable from her perspective

Yep. The tone of the discourse at that time was that if it conflicts with "pastel girlfriend and goth girlfriend statically hold hands in a cottage all day", it's bad. And like...y'all, it's a story. Stories have conflicts. Like, isn't that what you want for your ship? P*rc'ahlia wouldn't be half as iconic as it is without the characters' flaws causing problems for each other; I want my stories to be as good as they can be!

At this point I don't ship anybody in Bell's Hells, but with the way Laura and Marisha have played romances in the past, I think that if they do go for endgame Im*dna, they'll do it in a way that'll probably piss off a significant portion of the Cute Girlfriends fandom and will thus actually be interesting. Because relationships need a conflict of some sort to be believable in fiction—even Percy and Vex briefly broke up!—and I think Marisha and Laura both get that it's going to take more than "Imogen and Laudna were super codependent and had a bunch of the same conversations over and over and then they kissed :)" to be a fulfilling narrative for either of them. If they go for it, they'll do it in a way that will be worthwhile and actually has some conflict...which means much of the obnoxious fandom will be outraged by it, but it'll be a much better story in the long run than the current Absolute State of the fanon at the moment.

Like! Let's deal with them being codependent! Let's deal with Laudna not doing anything about Delilah in her head for thirty years and not really bothering for 37 episodes! Let's deal with Imogen considering siding with the people who killed Laudna, and doing so for personal reasons rather than any kind of philosophical ideas! There's genuinely interesting, meaty stuff there, but you have to actually dig into it in order for this relationship to be a worthwhile narrative.

Orym's little scene with Fearne was adorable, I'd been wondering why he took that spyglass. Laura adding her hand to the handhold "you have so many hands" "yeah, its best not to question it".

Loved them reacting to it snowing in whitestone.

Marisha: does a bad impression of Vex, Laura: "Imogen and Laudna are done" 😆

Imogen is giving up her Whitestone is for lovers shirt as an offering to the dawn father 🥲

Imogen: "I don't accept it." 😭

Ashton and Fearne's scene by the clock tower "My heavens". Laura looked so pissed at Ashton saying he only trusted Fearne. I did really want Fearne to take the shard, but oh well. Fearne running away after saying Ashton is hot gave me "I kiss her and I skateboard away" vibes. Do y'all think Fearne actually likes Ashton romantically? With Chet it just seemed sexual, but with Ashton it just feels different to me.

Happy to see Cassandra, I want to know more about what she has been up to.

Taliesin said he and Ashley are gonna talk of camera, I think Fearne x Ashton is a real possibility you guys!

We going to the ziggurat! Laudna is uncomfortable, I think her parents were probably among the bodies that lined the walls back then. Delilah definalty used them for some sort of experiment, waste not want not.

Ashton kissed Fearne but then said its never gonna happen again. Damn man, u playing with my heart, and Fearne's I think.

Okay this thought has been percolating for a while so let’s piss off people who can’t read

Beau and Fjord were the closest things to villains in Jester’s story

Because Laura very specifically did not create a villain

Lord Sharpe was an afterthought if they happened to be passing through town that Jester hid from for 30 seconds then locked on a second balcony, and he was the closest she ever had

Jester’s story was about growth and reconnecting, neither of which actually came from a beat down fight the way traditional dnd does

So what the fuck does that have to do with Beau and Fjord? Well, that comes back to how each of they interpreted Jester’s arc

Cuz both Marisha and Travis did a good bit of pushing to have Jester go down one of their storylines, even if for the players it was all pre-negotiated fun

Because who were the two potential villains of Jester’s arc, if Laura had wanted to go that way?

Artagan, her cleric patron

The Gentleman, her dad

I believe y’all may now see the two storylines of which I speak?

The Gentleman’s storyline pretty much slipped under the radar until the Nein went back to Zadash and didn’t bother to visit him

After that, Jester admitted she’d been lying about her Sendings to the party, he wasn’t welcoming her with open arms, and he told her he wasn’t her father

Beau, who has Personal Experience with shitty fathers who need to be thoroughly rejected and maybe a beat down, gave Jester some beautiful gentle cuddles and consolation and “well if he doesn’t want you (like my dad didn’t want me) he can go fuck himself he doesn’t deserve you”

But that was not the story Laura wanted to tell

So that’s not the story we got

And oh boy that made the next part where we went back to meet BEAU’S dad extra fucking spicy because she just got to see for the first time that some bad dads really do care

And then Thoreau was still Thoreau and gaslighting ensued but Beau remembered what she’d told Jester, even if Jester didn’t need it

Basically no pushing there cuz Matt didn’t much hesitate to make it clear that the Gentleman was not going to be Thoreau. He was a deadbeat, awkward, and negligent, but not for the same reasons

ARTAGAN THOUGH

Well

Fjord has Opinions and Personal Experience around accepting magical powers from entities you don’t know or trust

And Beau has Opinions and Personal Experience with shady people in positions of power using them against innocent young souls

And neither of them spent 30 seconds to consider Jester might know her childhood bestie better than they do because they were right that he wasn’t a god

So as soon as Matt began dropping archfey hints we got like 40 episodes of “the Traveler’s shady and isn’t a proper god” and “hey Jester we can just kill him for you”

Because they can’t just go kill Uk’otoa, they’re not levelled enough and he’s pretty inconvenient to get to all locked up

But Fjord burned his pact weapon and walked straight into the Wildmother’s arms, and oh boy a lot of people who don’t think about personality types wanted Jester to do just that on the ol’ bird app

(Even Laura agreed Jester’d be more likely to go to the Moonweaver in Talks, either because of the Travelercon thing or the trickery/Mollymauk aspect)

But Laura didn’t want to tell that story either, even if Travis did make off with her warlock class

So Artagan made it explicitly clear, in every interaction, that he knew Jester was incredible without him (that’s why he chose her at all), that he valued far more than just what she could do, that he never even told her he was a god, he just never corrected the assumption

Cuz he’s an archfey and he also has a minor personal history of starting cults (not to himself the first time but bad habits escalate)

Artagan was the one who talked Jester down from just tossing people into the volcano

He was the only one who never joked about her being a bad cleric, but the Nein ain’t ready for that

And he explicitly chose her safety over his own, which for the uninitiated is A Big Fucking Deal for an archfey

Like, the Moonweaver’s response was entirely proportional, because as Fearne has shown, fey aren’t great at the “some things belong to other people and that is okay”, including personal health and wellness

(Laura also mentioned in Talks that if Fjord hadn’t grabbed her while she was holding Artagan Jester wouldn’t have hesitated to go with him but Matt knew exactly what she wanted and they were Never going to go down the “evil Artie” track)

So since we know The Gentleman was never going to be Jester’s villain, and Artagan was never going to be Jester’s villain, what’s left?

Well, just about all you’ve got is the two people who repeatedly challenged her faith and tried to force her into conflict with her first and oldest friend

And maybe “antagonist” is a better word than villain, but I did say I wanted to piss off people who can’t read

Cuz unlike with the Gentleman, the Artagan question wasn’t dropped until the night after Travelercon, where Jester very gently told them to go fuck themselves of course Artagan was there to stay

And of course if Laura wasn’t down with it, none of the pushing woulda happened

But until that point literally all of Jester’s conflict was internal, and nobody really talked to her about it

And Beau and Fjord’s responses make perfect sense for the characters, just like it makes perfect sense that Jester wasn’t gonna willingly confide in people who kept pushing for murder

Jester needed to be pushed enough to break the happy facade and let some of her struggles and thoughts be external, because some people still somehow refuse to believe there’s any depth behind a bubbly smile and dick jokes

For Jester’s growth to be evident and external in the story, she needed something to fight against, and in this case?

It was her new friends hating her old friend

The friend who gave her the power to save their lives

Two of the people she was the closest to whose opinions meant the most

Her original two road companions vs her original friend

And boy did that make for some compelling conflict when Artagan blatantly refused to get involved even in his own defence

In a way Jester kinda did follow Beau’s story; I’ve made the link between Artagan and Dairon before as older, more powerful mentors with unknown intentions

Beau chose to trust Dairon and follow in their footsteps and let Dairon make her more powerful

Jester sort of wound up leading Artagan as much as he led her, which is a fun callback to Beau calling out Dairon’s anti-Krynn racism in Xhorhas

But yeah, tl;dr?

Beau and Fjord were the closest thing Jester got to an antagonist because Laura explicitly refused to make her own and Matt let her have the story she wanted

Nothing annoys me more than people agreeing with me in the wrong way, and that’s why all the “Vex was done wrong by tlovm” people piss me off so much lol. All the stuff I dislike about her story were things that happened in the stream and I would have preferred if they changed, not stuff they mess up in the adaptation.

Her death being entirely about Vax and Percy annoyed me in the stream, so I was annoyed about it in the show. I have no problem saying I don’t like what Laura Bailey did with Vex in places cause I thought it was boring or lame. That’s so much less of an offensive view about her than just assuming she has no agency in how she portrayed her own character.

why are you telling me, a person who likes Vex's story on both the stream and TLOVM, this.

Also like...I am taking issue with the people who are like "I LOVE WOMEN HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE WOMEN OF THE CAST EVER" when they actually mean "if you don't act like Marisha Ray is the incarnation of the triple goddess and flowers spring from the earth where she walks I will send you hate (no but really I love women), Laura Bailey should make her characters more palatable and fitting my specific idea of Correct Female Characters, I ignore most of Vex's relationships, hope Jester almost dies so that she realizes she's a wlw what's a bike sexual, and think Imogen doesn't appreciate Laudna enough but Laura Bailey is great (I love women btw), wait there's someone named Aisling Jackson on this show? wild (I love women)" but with that said you're uh, not doing a great job of beating the also very real misogyny allegations towards the women of the cast that were particularly violent during Campaign 1. Like, both sides suck here, you're just on the other side of the pendulum swing than the one I was specifically addressing . Also you're on anon so you are not, in fact, indicating that you have no problem saying this.

It's fine if you don't like Vex. It's fine if you don't like her story in the original or her story in the adaptation. I do, I've said multiple times why I do, and I don't care what you think. If you have questions, great. If you want validation go pay for a life coach or something, but I'm going to turn off anon until some of you realize that you can have opinions without passing them through my inbox.

Sixteen things I noted about the one-shot “The Adventures of the Darrington Brigade” :

Back when I was thinking of starting Campaign 1, I think this one-shot was just being broadcast, so I definitely remember seeing gifs and all. Wild to be thinking in retropsect about my own voyage into Critical Role...

Laura's dress is SO BEAUTIFUL, Marisha with her hair done like that is CUTE AS A BUTTON, and Ashley IN A SUIT ?!!! I'm DEAD !! Oh and the guys are nice too I guess (lol, no, in reality I especially love Taliesin's vibe)

THEY DID A KARAOKE VERSION OF THE OPENING !! HAAAAA !!! THIS IS SO FUN

Amazing characters all around, I can't pick a favorite, they're all so good. I loved the crowd's reaction to Marisha's description of her character, and the crowd's reaction to Travis' character goofy accent And I do wonder if Laura based Farriwen on a 1st idea for Imogen - or maybe it's just me ; but there's similarities : the hair (well, Imogen's purple), the decorated arms (well, Imogen are scars).

I'm so happy to see Lionel again ! (even if this is Matt jaegering). Love this funky bardbarian who was definitely a duck before Scanlan True Polymorphed him.

the initiation ? Same as that time Tary was iniated into Vox Machina... which is to say, a fight !! I love the cast's realisation that their past mistake is absolutely coming back to bite them in the ass.

How many instruments does Marisha have back there ? I'm amazed and in awe !!!

Sam as Tary, knowing full-well he's inflicting psychic damage on Laura : "I'm gonna hop on my flying broom and watch the action a little bit closer."

Macaroni Samsonite, about Damian : "You know what, Tary, I think we should take advantage of your rules and maybe we should call this a... BANISHMENT !" Damian fails her saving throw, and Ashley just leaves the table. Liam : "Oh man, we just got her back !!"

Sam is right, everything The OwlBear said is a one-liner, in the voice of Batman. Taliesin is so fucking funny.

I love Dotty's clear distates of Hazel... even though this robot knows only word, it is clear.

I love Hazel's old-timey accent that slips sometimes in the strangest of syllabes, like "confusyion", "meditatyion", "inspiratyion", and I love that it gets ~worse~ and ~worse~(but hilarious !) during the episode.

That was so much fun, holy shit. My serotonin levels are high, my skin is clear, my crops are thriving, etc etc. It makes its grand entrance in the top 10 of the CR one-shots, for me ! I hope Matt was not joking, and that someday they're going to do a follow-up.

Return of the Revenge of the Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E108-109 (September 15, 2020)

It’s been six months since the last Speech Machine Upper Luminosity (is that right?), so let’s jump right back in like nothing ever happened!

Tonight’s guests are Laura Bailey and Matt Mercer!

Announcements: Talks will now be biweekly, discussing two episodes at a time! Unfortunately, this means fan question submissions aren’t doable yet, since they’ll often be filming Talks for episodes that haven’t aired yet; questions will come from crew, but fanart and cosplay from earlier episodes will still get awards. Dani Carr’s new official title in the company is Lorekeeper!

Episodes 108-109

Brian asks Matt about the tug-of-war with the Moonweaver’s influence: “how much of that did the Traveler and Jester’s interactions influence him not going back to the Feywild?” Matt: “Okay, well, the Moonweaver isn’t necessarily happy about taking on the images and icons and co-opting elements of her worship, but also isn’t a vindictive deity necessarily.” She has a similar fey history to Artagan, “so I knew this encounter, there would be a punishment involved, at the very least to take Artagan down a few pegs.” He wasn’t going to be actually banished; the Moonweaver just wanted to “scare the shit out of him: You think you’re a trickery god? Welcome to the original trickery god, bitch.” There was a possibility of him just vanishing for a while, if there was no sign of humility; but based on their interactions, it was just enough to show the planetar that maybe this isn’t the same “troll of an Archfey” that the Moonweaver had known. “Maybe this is enough of a lesson.”

Laura thought Artagan was going to be “gone-gone, and Jester was going to be left alone”. She thought there was going to be a Feywild rescue, and Jester would have to try to find a new deity.

Laura’s wi-fi conks out. So does mine. Ah, 2020.

Jester would probably have followed the Moonweaver in an attempt to make amends. Laura mentions that every time she sat down to prep something for Traveler-Con, she realized Jester wouldn’t sit still long enough to plan it.

Laura: “If that cult hadn’t been there and she hadn’t seen what a false god could do to people, I don’t think she would have come to the realization that what her and the Traveler were doing was detrimental: oh, we’re fucking over people’s lives, hardcore.” If Artagan hadn’t been on board with picking a different deity, Jester would have stepped down at Traveler Con and she would have exposed the lie.

Matt’s “super happy” because he was purposely making sure he didn’t know what was going to happen at Traveler Con. “Okay, everything around it’s going to be interesting and fleshed out, but as to the actual convention, I have no idea what’s going to happen.” He wanted to balance a complete train wreck with character beats and mini-arcs, and he was satisfied with how that worked out.

Brian asks if Jester ever considered walking away from the Traveler. Laura: “Yeah. It could have progressed to that point. Jester always gave him the benefit of the doubt, and loves him with her entire heart, so if he would have not seen that what they were doing was not acceptable, in his own way, then Jester would have probably walked away. I don’t know if she would have walked away from him, but it would have been a big issue for her. I have no idea what that would have meant for her... my entire character arc.”

How does Jester feel about the Traveler now? “She loves him, but at the same time, she doesn’t adore him without boundaries. She sees a little bit more of who he is, and the worshiping aspect isn’t there anymore. She sees him more like another friend. That’s a complicated relationship for a cleric to have.”

Matt talks about what a fan he is of his players. “I’ve just been enjoying the hell out of this.”

Has Artagan learned his lesson? He’s been living for a long time, and old habits are hard to break. Matt points out that Artagan “is free in a place that he doesn’t have complete domain over, and he’s been humbled a few times. I think he’s definitely learned a series of lessons to some degree. We’ll see how far it sticks and where their relationship goes.”

Brian asks Laura how it’s been to have the spotlight on Jester for a long time. Laura: “It was nerve-wracking. I feel very relieved that it’s on to something else now, but it was so much fun, too. I feel like I kept getting so emotional as her through all this. Having to come to terms with all the things she was going through was crazy. But it felt good.”

Matt: “I took a bath for this.”

Brian notes that Jester found herself caught between her god and the M9. Who would she have chosen if Artagan hadn’t kicked her off? Laura: “Here’s the thing. If Fjord hadn’t jumped on my back, Jester would have gone. But him doing that, I mean, that’s why I froze like I did. I really didn’t know where it was going to go. Thankfully Artie made that choice for me.”

The Vilya reveal’s been waiting since Marisha made Keyleth’s backstory. Brian recalls that the question of what happened to Vilya came up in the campaign 1 recap, and Matt was cagey about it. “When I got the original backstory from Marisha, in my head, I was like, her mother’s probably still alive, just lost to the chaos for reasons that I’ll get to, but I like the idea of an eventual reunion when it made sense.” As they got later in the campaign, Keyleth’s story became about taking on this leadership and stepping into her mother’s footsteps: “I didn’t want to rob her of her journey by bringing her mother into it before it was complete. There wasn’t a beat that felt right for it in the first campaign unless the players actively wanted to go and seek it out.” He knew she was on an island somewhere, and that there was an issue with her memory, but the details were still hazy, and it never came up in the first campaign. “As soon as we got to Rumblecusp as a possible visiting location, I was like, this would probably be the island that Vilya’s at.” He knew the community would pick up on it quickly, but the players would likely be too engrossed in their own story. “Getting to send her home was wonderful, both for an idea of closure, but as a long-waiting gift to Marisha and Keyleth. It’s something that I’ve been looking forward to giving to her.”

On building Vilya’s character: “I wanted to make sure she wasn’t too similar to Keyleth. She couldn’t remember her family, but when she did, it meant everything.”

Brian asks what inspires Jester’s thought process to try and befriend every creature they come across. “Everyone is interesting. Except for Celia, she’s a bitch. If you piss her off, she might just hate you forever, but everybody else she thinks is pretty great. Jester can hold a good grudge.”

Brian asks Matt about the inspiration for Vokodo. “It is a heavily customized version of a Morkoth. I was just intrigued by how they had created this creature that creates this island around it. It has ways of affecting the minds of creatures around it. I didn’t enjoy that the creature was only Medium in size, and I wanted it to be something that was a little bit more changed by its experiences.” He also tied it in with the Astral Sea lore and suggested that it had been changed by its proximity to this volcano, similarly to how Thordak did in the first campaign.

How about the visions of the living city? Laura: “I don’t know what the fuck is going on with that thing. If it true that there’s a Molly connection, the Eyes of Nine, I don’t know. It’s just too much. We have to look into it.” Matt, blandly: “Weird mysteries.”

Who would the Disintegrate spell have hit if it had ricocheted? “Initially, I would have wanted to choose Caleb, like back at himself, because the immediate threat of that ray towards Vokodo, it would have been just right back at him.” But the runner-up would have been Jester because of the threat of the banishment back to the Astral Sea, the one place he didn’t want to go.

Laura could tell from Liam’s gameplay that he hadn’t realized someone was going to perma-die from that. “I thought it was going to be me, because I had been the one to banish him.”

Dani points out that the group would probably have gone after Artagan if Jester had died right before Traveler Con.

Matt highlights Cad’s Divine Intervention as pretty much the only way they could have learned the important information they used to prepare for the fight with Vokodo. He was torn between frustration at not being able to use this boss to its fullest potential... and pride in his players.

Laura is amused at listening to the characters talking about Jester when she’s not there. “It’s fun to hear but not be able to use that at all in your interactions with them.” Laura points out that even her sister who watches the show doesn’t trust the Traveler. Matt mentions that he’s always being very careful with the relationship between the Traveler and Jester, because it could get into rough territory. “There are unhealthy elements of their relationship, very much so. A lot of her story has been about disillusionment.” Laura: “Yeah. Eyes open.” They’ve set up bumpers to make sure they don’t veer into territory the players find uncomfortable. 

“Artagan at the end of campaign one versus Artagan at campaign two are different. He came into this world a purely selfish being of id and impulse. He still has those dark tendencies and can lean down those dark paths. But he went from a purely chaotic, selfish creature to unintentionally beginning to care for people that aren’t him.” Traveler Con definitely left a mark on him. “Aw shit, I let them in.”

Sam starts Facetiming Brian. “How does he know when we’re filming this?! No. I’m not going to do it.”

Matt and Laura are "super excited” for the new landscape of the next part of the journey.

Laura notes that Jester is getting past the point of “needing to put on the mask”, including around her mom. And as that’s happened at Traveler Con, the small breakdowns have been piling up. “That’s what therapy’s like, right?”

On the new goliath shopkeeper (even with the mispronunciations as clues, I got nothing on that spelling), Matt points out that purchasing magical items is tricky because most things were pulled into the war effort. He was trying to figure out how a shopkeeper could build a business in that environment: “with a bunch of really small, shitty enchantments”. As a kid, he loved novelty shops, and took a lot of inspiration from those memories.

So glad everything’s back in business! “As always, don’t forget to love each other. And don’t worry, it’s almost Thursday.”

So another one of the C1 moments I love but haven’t revisited for a while is the departure and return of Scanlan, as well as the introduction of Tary. 

I always forget how emotional and well acted that whole conversation was with Scanlan before he left. It always hits me hard in the feels, because there is just simply no one really in the wrong. Scanlan never really ever shared his problems or his insecurities with the group til they compounded and he exploded. But VM with all their own shit very much acted with a I’ll share what I want you to know and I expect you to do the same - it was to a degree I’m showing you I care and respect you so I wont be nosy. 

Tary’s introduction was hilarious though - Laura and Marisha were so mad - and Travis’ whisper that allowed them all to yell at everyone involved with planning that surprise, that was hilarious. As a bonus to that - the very first “little elf girl” remark and everyone just noping the fuck out of the moment, both in character and at the table was fantastic to watch. Sam does so much just to mess with Laura and it’s hilarious to watch - he absolutely takes every opportunity, including the witches hat, and turning her skin green later.

Scanlan’s reveal as the Meat Man later though - like they all knew it was coming, Tary had already told them he plans to leave the group. But Vex’s reaction was the best. She just looked pissed the whole conversation - especially after having her suspicions confirmed, and as soon as she got to confront him 1 on 1, it was just an immediate 180 going in for a hug. I cry every time I see it.

Sexuality Headcanon : That man is G.A.Y. I’m hesitant to put him somewhere on the ace spectrum because I’m not ace myself and I feel like headcanoning sheltered, soft, slightly “weird” characters as ace comes with a lot of bagages (and there’s also fandom’s history of treating gay sex as icky/weird/not pure enough) but I’m drawn to that headcanon nonetheless. Gender Headcanon : He’s not super aware of his own gender, but if you actually ask him he would identify as a man. After a very longue pause. And he would probably thinks it’s kinda rude of you to ask. A ship I have with said character : I low-key ship everyone (but Beau) with him. He just has this very easygoing chemistry with pretty much everyone ? Except with Nott but I can see the two of them in a trouple with Yeza (they’re not sure how they got there ? but it works ?). But like who am I kidding, we all know I’m super into Fjord/Caduceus. The care ! The respect ! The awkwardness ! This is going to devolve into a Fjord/Caduceus manifesto so I’ll stop there. BROTP I have with said character : God squad ! The dynamic between Caduceus, Jester and Yasha is amazing, very tender  and supportive but also extremely fertile ground for wacky shenanigans, they straight up don’t speak the same language, I love them. I’m also very curious to see more interraction between him and Beau, partly because I love the way Taliesin and Marisha play off each other, but also partly because Cad’s very supportive of Beau and she seems a bit... distant ? with him ? idk I may be imagining things. A NOTP I have with said character : not really ? I mean Beau’s a lesbian so that would be a big no, but I’ve never seen people shipping them so it’s very theoretical. A random headcanon : He was the kind of kid who raises all sort of “gross” pets growing up. Spiders, snails, cockroaches... he loved them all, but he only kept his beetles. General Opinion over said character : I loved him from his very first sentence and that love have only grown so far ? I’m always a bit wary around very religious characters but with Cad it’s an interesting kind of nervousness rather than a dealbreaker or even a real downside of him. I like that we have completely different viewpoints ! I love how genuinely nice and supportive he is, I love when he does cryptid-level shit, I love his incredible ability to just go with the flow, I love when he gets snide (”sleep well with your bad decisions”) and I just love how well he fits within the Nein (poor dude had a rough start, they really didn’t appreciate him enough at first). I hope he’s going in a direction where he’ll feel more comfortable being cared for (rather than always being the one taking care of), but if he’s not I won’t be disapointed. I hope we also get more angry Caduceus, because that was sexy badass.

Sexuality Headcanon : Bi ! Gender Headcanon : Well he’s canonically nonbinary but I feel like he’s specifically interested in gender as something to subvert. A ship I have with said character : I was slowly getting into Molly/Fjord (I’m not sure they would have managed to encourage the best in each other but they would have been a very fun and hot couple). But, well, RIP. A BROTP I have with said character : Molly and Yashaaaaaaaa T-T. Also Beau and Molly’s relationship was fucking amazing, I still miss it. A NOTP I have with said character : Not really ? Though again, Beau/Molly would piss me off but I haven’t seen that pairing either. A random headcanon : He hasn’t actually had that much sex or many different partners, people just kinda assumed and since most of them seemed to disaprove, he leaned into it. General Opinion over said character : I love how messy and complex he was ! He could have been your usual cliche of a person who perform for a living (vain ! good liars ! egotistic !) but instead was very close in personnality to a lot of performers I actually met (pretending to be vain for fun and because everyone assumes already, lying=/=acting, very community minded because everyone has to pull their weight if you actually want to succeed). His weird relationship with his body/past was also both relatable and strange enough to be extremely engaging and his flaws made him very entertaining, also I think of the scene after the fight with the Manticore where he chats amiably with a bartender and only after that has a quiet mental breakdown over his drink at least once a week. I want to know more about his backstory soooooooo badly.

Sexuality Headcanon : As much as riot’s Beau/Nott headcanon does things for me, I must face the truth : in canon, Nott is incurably straight. Gender Headcanon : Clearly her womanhood is very important to her, but I don’t think she has the healthiest view of what being a woman entail. I just want her to be happy and not constantly doubting her worth T-T A ship I have with said character : Nott/Caleb, Nott/Yeza, Caleb/Nott/Yeza, Nott/Beau and my little crackship Nott/Yeza/Caduceus (and also Nott/Yasha is good, actually ?) A BROTP I have with said character : Caleb was the founder of the Nott stanning club, which demonstrates his good taste and perceptiveness. I also think the various revelations that came along the story made their relationship much less unbalanced and codependant, and thus stronger. But I’m also very partial to Jester and Nott’s friendship. They’re hilarious and sweet, and putting Laura and Sam next to each other was a stroke of genius. A NOTP I have with said character : uH... Nott/Yeza if it means Nott stops adventuring, I’m just not(t) ready for that. But other than that, I don’t have one A random headcanon : I’ve already written this one but like... if something she’s reading makes her feel too much feels she just. straight up it eat. She’s been like that since childhood. General Opinion over said character : ugh... she’s so good... she’s just a walking whirpool of contradictions, if walking whirlpools of contradictions were extremely smart and scientifically minded and fiercely protective of a chosen few people. I was ambivalent on the whole polymorph thing because i really, really love goblins (and have mixed feelings about my love for goblins, but let’s no go there tonight) but I love that she’s still her weird, abbrasive self. Also her design is fucking great. I really want to see her conflict between her desire to keep adventuring and her belief that she should just want to go back to her old life being explored even more than it already has, but if she does stop adventuring I will be heartbroken, I love her so much. EDIT because I was tired but I can’t believe I didn’t mention her voice, it’s so good ! Probably the first thing I loved about her.

2. D. I've seen this a few places and it's more like...why though. I prefer the characters not knowing each other that well - much as I loved the twins, I also felt the group dynamic in C2 was way more fun and interesting specifically because there were no pre-set groups like the twins or Pike and Grog, so the loyalties and friendships that developed all happened on screen. I may be in the minority of the fandom for this but like, the twins were great and also I would be thrilled if we never got anything like it again.

4. I'm giving this a C in that Grandma is A and Child is F. I think an older character being called to adventure is extremely good. NADDPod had a teenaged character, and they did a good job but the general assessment of the cast was "let's not do that again, it got weird" and having experienced how completely batshit people got about Luc Brenatto being in danger...I do not want to see it.

5. A+ but also if you've found an actual play show that hasn't had this I'd be surprised; that's like, part of the appeal.

For the class stuff...you do realize that this made it worse, right. Like now there are four options per cast member. This is the equivalent of filling out your True/False quiz with an elaborate cursive letter that could perhaps be T or F except also there's still a possibility there's none of the above and now you've also pissed off your teacher, whereas if you just filled out T for literally every answer you would probably do okay. So I am going to give these a grade based on the percentage of those four options I like, which means the grade will be either an A+ (all four), C (75%) or F (0% or 5%) which is definitely harsher, but like, if you put in 28 options this is what you get.

After watching our wizard twice now get so pissed at a villain that he pursued them until they were dead-- and killing one of them in the busy streets of a city-- I've decided to make a new feat just for spellcasters: Wizard Rage.

Prerequisite: Must have the spellcasting class feature.

Sometimes a wizard just really has to let loose and unleash their blinding hot rage on the world. That's what wizard rage is for.

As a bonus action on your turn, you can enter a wizard rage, receiving the following effects:

You have advantage on Arcana checks and saving throws versus magic effects.

When you make a spell attack, you gain a bonus to the damage roll equal to your spell modifier.

You have resistance to damage taken from spells.

Your wizard rage lasts for one minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if your turn ends and you haven’t made a spell attack since your last turn or taken damage since then. You can also end your wizard rage on your turn as a bonus action.

Once you have raged a number of times equal to your spell modifier, you must finish a long rest before you can rage again.

I have a theory about who Molly/Lucien/Kingsley really was before all this. I think Molly and Lucien (despite what he said) were both only fragments of a person. Maybe King is too.

I think at one point maybe there was a god that died or shattered somehow ("I am your god, long may I rein", and Lucien practically turning himself into a god, and King saying the person he was before both Lucien and Molly was kingly). And so because it was a god that shattered, each piece is still capable of being a full-blown person, each echoing some part of that godhood though they don't know it.

I think if Jester hadn't cast Restoration on him, he might have ended up being Molly again. Instead, he either turned into a different fragment of the same soul or maybe a more complete fragment.

Of course I don't have a lot to back this up nor do I know of any Exandrian gods that have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Just an inkling that Molly is way more than we know.
