I'm in meme mode right now. To take advantage of this, here are some memes to help promote Legendary Fugitives for what I have in mind. These ideas are not final, but they're what's in my head. It's the best way to sum up the story.

Canned Heat Blues · Tommy Johnson
Next to Son House and Charley Patton, no one was more important to the development of pre-Robert Johnson Delta blues than Tommy Johnson. Armed with a powerful voice that could go from a growl to an eerie falsetto range and a guitar style that had all of the early figures and licks of the Delta style clearly delineated, Johnson only recorded for two years -- from 1928 to 1930 -- but left behind a body of work that's hard to ignore.
The stories about his live performances -- where he would play the guitar behind his neck in emulation of Charley Patton's showboating while hollering the blues at a full-throated level for hours without a break -- are part of it. So is his uncontrolled womanizing and alcoholism, both of which constantly got him in trouble. Then there's the crossroads story. Yes, years before the infamous deal with the Devil at a deserted crossroad was being used as an explanation of the otherworldly abilities of young Robert Johnson, the story was first being told repeatedly about Tommy, often by the man himself to reinforce his abilities to doubting audiences.
He was born in 1896 in Hinds County, MS, on the George Miller plantation. Once the family moved to Crystal Springs in 1910, Tommy picked up the guitar, learning from his older brother, LeDell. By age 16, Johnson had run away from home to become a "professional" musician, largely supporting himself by playing on the street for tips. Tommy apparently spent most of the '20s drinking, womanizing, gambling, and playing music in the company of Rubin Lacy, Charley McCoy, Walter Vincent, and Ishmon Bracey when the money got low and, apparently, only when the mood struck him. By all accounts, Tommy felt no particular drive to promote himself relentlessly and -- while he did play music for pay until the very end of his life -- he certainly wasn't as serious about his career as he was about partying.
He cut his first records for the Victor (later RCA Victor, now BMG) label at sessions held in Memphis, TN, in 1928. Johnson's first releases hit the area hard, inspiring up-and-comers such as Howlin' Wolf, Robert Nighthawk, Johnnie Temple, and Otis Spann.
He cut one more stack of great records for the Paramount label in 1930, largely through the maneuvering of fellow drinking buddy Charley Patton. Then the slow descent into total alcoholism started taking its toll, reducing his once prodigious talents to small, sporadic flickerings of his former genius.
He worked on a medicine show with Ishmon Bracey in the '30s, but mostly seemed to be a mainstay of the juke and small-party dance circuit for the rest of his days. He was playing at a local house party in November of 1956 when he suffered a fatal heart attack. Whether the story about the deal with the Devil at the crossroads was something he truly believed, or just something Tommy said to drum up local interest in himself, it seems a bit odd that you'll find him buried at the Warm Springs Methodist Church Cemetery in Crystal Springs. Maybe he mellowed out toward the end, maybe he found God. Some things about the blues you'll just never know.

Robert Johnson
According to legend, as a young man living on a plantation in rural Mississippi, Johnson had a tremendous desire to become a great blues musician. One of the legends often told says that Johnson was instructed to take his guitar to a crossroad near Dockery Plantation at midnight. (There are claims for other sites as the location of the crossroads.) There he was met by a large black man (the Devil) who took the guitar and tuned it. The Devil played a few songs and then returned the guitar to Johnson, giving him mastery of the instrument. This story of a deal with the Devil at the crossroads mirrors the legend of Faust. In exchange for his soul, Johnson was able to create the blues for which he became famous.
Tumblr media
This legend was developed over time and has been chronicled by Gayle Dean Wardlow, Edward Komara and Elijah Wald, who sees the legend as largely dating from Johnson's rediscovery by white fans more than two decades after his death. Son House once told the story to Pete Welding as an explanation of Johnson's astonishingly rapid mastery of the guitar. Other interviewers failed to elicit any confirmation from House and there were fully two years between House's observation of Johnson as first a novice and then a master.
Further details were absorbed from the imaginative retellings by Greil Marcus and Robert Palmer. Most significantly, the detail was added that Johnson received his gift from a large black man at a crossroads. There is dispute as to how and when the crossroads detail was attached to the Robert Johnson story. All the published evidence, including a full chapter on the subject in the biography Crossroads, by Tom Graves, suggests an origin in the story of the blues musician Tommy Johnson. This story was collected from his musical associate Ishman Bracey and his elder brother Ledell in the 1960s. One version of Ledell Johnson's account was published in David Evans's 1971 biography of Tommy Johnson, and was repeated in print in 1982 alongside House's story in the widely read Searching for Robert Johnson, by Peter Guralnick.
In another version, Ledell placed the meeting not at a crossroads but in a graveyard. This resembles the story told to Steve LaVere that Ike Zimmerman of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, learned to play the guitar at midnight while sitting on tombstones. Zimmerman is believed to have influenced the playing of the young Johnson.
Recent research by the blues scholar Bruce Conforth, in Living Blues magazine, makes the story clearer. Johnson and Ike Zimmerman did practice in a graveyard at night, because it was quiet and no one would disturb them, but it was not the Hazlehurst cemetery as had been believed: Zimmerman was not from Hazlehurst but nearby Beauregard, and he did not practice in one graveyard, but in several in the area. Johnson spent about a year living with and learning from Zimmerman, who ultimately accompanied Johnson back to the Delta to look after him.
While Dockery, Hazlehurst and Beauregard have each been claimed as the locations of the mythical crossroads, there are also tourist attractions claiming to be "The Crossroads" in both Clarksdale and Memphis. Residents of Rosedale, Mississippi, claim Johnson sold his soul to the devil at the intersection of Highways 1 and 8 in their town, while the 1986 movie Crossroads was filmed in Beulah, Mississippi. The blues historian Steve Cheseborough wrote that it may be impossible to discover the exact location of the mythical crossroads, because "Robert Johnson was a rambling guy".
Some scholars have argued that the devil in these songs may refer not only to the Christian figure of Satan but also to the trickster god of African origin, Legba, himself associated with crossroads. Folklorist Harry M. Hyatt wrote that, during his research in the South from 1935 to 1939, when African-Americans born in the 19th or early 20th century said they or anyone else had "sold their soul to the devil at the crossroads", they had a different meaning in mind. Hyatt claimed there was evidence indicating African religious retentions surrounding Legba and the making of a "deal" (not selling the soul in the same sense as in the Faustian tradition cited by Graves) with the so-called devil at the crossroads.
The Blues and the Blues singer has really special powers over women, especially. It is said that the Blues singer could possess women and have any woman they wanted. And so when Robert Johnson came back, having left his community as an apparently mediocre musician, with a clear genius in his guitar style and lyrics, people said he must have sold his soul to the devil. And that fits in with this old African association with the crossroads where you find wisdom: you go down to the crossroads to learn, and in his case to learn in a Faustian pact, with the devil. You sell your soul to become the greatest musician in history.
This view that the devil in Johnson's songs is derived from an African deity was disputed by the blues scholar David Evans in an essay published in 1999, "Demythologizing the Blues":
There are ... several serious problems with this crossroads myth. The devil imagery found in the blues is thoroughly familiar from western folklore, and nowhere do blues singers ever mention Legba or any other African deity in their songs or other lore. The actual African music connected with cults of Legba and similar trickster deities sounds nothing like the blues, but rather features polyrhythmic percussion and choral call-and-response singing.
The musicologist Alan Lomax dismissed the myth, stating, "In fact, every blues fiddler, banjo picker, harp blower, piano strummer and guitar framer was, in the opinion of both himself and his peers, a child of the Devil, a consequence of the black view of the European dance embrace as sinful in the extreme".
Both Lomax's and Evans's accounts themselves have been disputed and dismissed by Black scholars and authors including Amiri Baraka and Cornel West. West defines Blues as a creation of a people "who are willing to look unflinchingly at catastrophic conditions", as children of God responding to those conditions. Baraka's words are more directly critical of white writers who study African-American Blues artform and culture from a Western viewpoint, stating that they "They have to do that to make themselves superior in some kind of way: that everything has come from Europe, which is not true". Baraka cites that rather than being formed out of any Western context, Blues derives from an African context of its own. The call-and-response singing Lomax argues is different from Blues has been widely cited as being a central aspect of Blues music.

Velocity of Sin's eyes (all four of them) went slightly out of focus as they turned their attention away from the 3rd dimension and up half a layer to the Adminternet. Here reality was rendered like a nostalgic feverdream of the late 90s internet, largely for nostalgia's sake. Literally for nostalgia's sake, specifically Panoply, Legator of Nostalgia and Goddess of Yesteryear's Comfort, who had lobbied hard against updating the Adminternet layer to follow anchor layer 48's current obsession with AI, apps, and privacy violations. It hadn't been a hard fight, honestly. Anyway, Ledel and Deled were here, because they were Velocity of Sin's desktop buddies, so they were obliged to follow along. They were also still, you know, in the room, and with their mortal eyes Velocity of Sin looked over at the far couch where Deled and Ledel were, physically, also still just hanging out. Ledel was on her back, staring at the ceiling, all her attention clearly focused on the higher layer where she was trying to help do computer-cat things. Deled was multitasking, hunched over a Nintendo Switch Handheld Console Copyright Nintendo Entertain Systems of Japan. From the sound she was playing one of the Nintendo Switch Online Super Nintendo Entertainment System Library games. Was that Donkey Kong Country? No. No, that was certainly Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest. It was honestly impressive Deled could manifest as a desktop buddy on the Adminternet layer and play Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest at the same time. It truly was the Dark Souls of 90s platformer games. What a true professional!

🌙Sweet Dreams of my Twst OCs Part 2🌙
PART ONE HERE
“You will become the protagonists of your own fairy tales…”
Hello everyone!
So…how about that most recent update in EN?! With everyone on the Isle of Sages currently in a deep slumber, I thought it’d be fun to explore just what my ocs are dreaming of. So I’ll be devoting the next few days of posts to just that! This part will be devoted to my four Pomefiore ocs.
What is your oc’s ideal dream world?
~~~
Tumblr media
Danica’s dream begins during spring break, she and Vil visit Pyroxene together. On their first night, they attend a production of Don Quixote by the Pyroxene Royal Ballet, with Fiona playing the principal female role. In Danica’s perfect dream world, Fiona is still alive and her ballet career is flourishing. She’s still the main face of Ledelle Cosmetics but encourages Danica’s desire to have more of a hand in helping their parents with the company. The day after the performance, Danica takes part in a spring promotional photoshoot and another commercial filming for her family.
In real life, she did this with Neige (again), much to her and Vil’s dismay. But in this perfect dream world, Danica does this spring promotion with Fiona by her side. The sisters truly enjoy working together and the spring promotion is a massive success. Their parents are also much kinder and more supportive of Danica without having to constantly compare her to Fiona. Toward the end of spring break, Vil takes Danica to meet his father and he takes her jewelry shopping. Their relationship also flourishes and in this dream world, Danica never makes her transfer to Diasomnia, because the events between books 6 and 7 never happened.
Tumblr media
It probably goes unsaid that in Sidonie’s perfect dream world, she is Pomefiore’s dorm leader. While she has found some fufillment as Vil’s vice dorm leader post book 6, taking his place is still her true goal. So her dream begins with the announcement that Vil has decided to step down. There is great pomp in her accession with Vil removing his crown and ceremoniously placing it upon her head. He tells her that while he didn’t think much of her at first, over the last year and a half, she has proven her intelligence and tenacity has earned Vil’s respect. He's confident he’s leaving Pomefiore in good hands.
Afterward, the dorm holds a reception in her honor and Trey and Sinclair congratulate her on her promotion. When asked who she has in mind for her vice dorm leader, Sidonie says she’s thinking about either Farron or Epel. Of all my oc’s dreams, Sidonie’s is the one most likely to become reality in time.
Tumblr media
Like Taima, Farron’s life is already pretty satisfying. There are some things that could be better, but for the most part, Farron is pretty happy. But there is one thing in Farron’s life that he wishes could be different. One thing he wishes for more than anything else in the world. His dream begins with him, Sidonie, Danica and Maximilian sitting together at the spelldrive championship between NRC and RSA. Danica and Maximilian cheer wildly for Heloise when she takes the field but Farron is only watching Andrew who, in Farron’s perfect dream world, is an NRC student playing on their team.
 Andrew initially wanted to attend NRC but it’s implied that he couldn’t afford to go and the headmage of RSA offered him a full scholarship to play spelldrive. Andrew’s skills prove instrumental and for the first time in decades, NRC wins. At the celebrations later while everyone is congratulating Andrew and the other NRC players, Andrew opts to spend most of his time with Farron, culminating with them finally sharing their first kiss. Little does Farron know, somewhere else on the Isle of Sages, Andrew is dreaming of something very similar, with Farron being the one to attend RSA.
Tumblr media
Maximilian is another one who is pretty satisfied with his life and any changes he’d make aren’t very dire. His dream also begins during spring break with Jade and Floyd inviting him to visit the Coral Sea. Jade gives Maximilian a potion to help him breathe underwater and he has an incredible time exploring the ocean and collecting gems and other minerals that can’t be found on land.
