Louis is such a Catholic good girl btw. Gets courted by a wealthy gentleman for months before they even kiss. Married in a church. Gets himself a precious baby daughter because he’s been dreaming of that perfect family since he was a little girl. Loyal to his man not even multiple deaths can separate them. Says Hail Mary like fifty billion times to cancel out the anal sex he keeps pretending he didn’t enjoy but also calls that dick his personal black tar heroin. Gonna lie to everybody he meets including himself. Feels guilt for a century about things that weren’t his fault but also kinda doesn’t give a shit about the things he did do. God’s gonna see him through <3

You can't just have Elton John sing lyrics like "oath of silence for the voice of a generation" and "you are what you love not who loves you" and expect me not to get emotional.

seeing that scene where sam is talking to dean abt when he used to read him knights of the round table comics and how he felt he could never go on a quest like that and saying he felt unclean and impure like but now, now these trials are ~purifying~ him...respectfully, sam, you sound so unhinged. and also yet another classic case of sam's revisionist history and re-writing his own memories and feelings once he has more context. like, sure, sam may have felt like a freak growing up, because of hunting. because of always being an outsider at every new school. because of all the secrets he had to keep from regular people. but the demon blood did not make him physically any different. the demon blood did not come with symptoms of otherness that young sam would've felt. and sam doesn't even learn abt the demon blood until post-stanford. they don't even know about demons or that the thing that killed mary IS a demon until s1. you were not impure or unclean, sammy, you were just like, a regular outcasted kid with a lot going on at home. been there, it's fine ur fine. ur being a freak abt these trials tho

i am supremely indecisive and need direction, so I’m putting this one to a tumblr poll ;
summaries and such under the readmore - feel free to send asks for more info <3
just to be clear, no matter the poll results i will be working on-and-off on smaller fics + my essays* and such anyway - the option is just there if people would be more interested in having shorter/less involved works more often, rather than just a scattering of one-shots for however long it takes me to wrangle a Project to somewhere i'm happy with to share it. * the essays are happening and will be happening, independently of whatever ends up happening with my fic writing, as well. it will again just boil down to focus and available research/writing time.
anyway! onto the Project summaries ;
forgive and forget (it’s all coming back to me now)
Jason was pretty certain he'd just end up working for his father in the end, but Ivy had managed to convince him that it was worth at least trying to find his work experience somewhere else. He had basically expected the crappy intern jobs - coffee runs, sorting files, and generally trailing after competent employees like some kind of lost puppy. What he hadn't expected, however, was for Peter goddamn Simmonds to have landed a co-op position at the same company.
post-canon canon divergence
eventual mcsimmonds
ivy is a major character too, i promise she gets her own b-plots
background lucadia
messy confusing feelings + cheating subplots
something stupid (like i love you)
A few days. Somehow, letting Lucas crash on Matt's couch for a few days turned into buying Lucas new clothes, turned into cleaning him up and helping with the job search. Which then turned into Matt making Lucas dinner and letting Lucas make him dinner in return, until dinner was a combined effort and light-hearted arguments about organizational systems. And it wasn't until their closets blurred together and Lucas started helping to pick out new drinking glasses that either of them realised they'd be happy if a few days lasted forever.
post-canon lucatt
roommates to friends to lovers type beat
in many ways they've grown and changed, in many ways they haven't
of course there's a lot of tension in the in-between stage where they're trying to figure out how to incorporate into each other's lives again, but eventually they end up falling into a cute domestic routine
there's something there in lucas and matt forgiving each other for the roles they played in/the ways they contributed to the general disaster that was their senior year (but Jason's suicide in particular)
as close to heaven as i’ll get
There wasn't a doubt in anyone's mind that Jason McConnell would do well at Notre Dame - 5 generations of top-level vampire hunters had come before him (and his father was quite insistent that AFTER him would come 5 more). The only thing that stood in his way was an entrance exam requiring a record of field experience.
Peter Simmonds understood the importance of following the rules imposed by the coven, really he did. But even so - something about the bright spots the stained glass windows of the church reflected onto the wet ground drew him in.
mcsimmonds vampire AU
Twilight/Supernatural-esque rural vibes + Southern Gothic inspiration
i get to fuck around with vampire folklore and religious imagery! and who doesn't love that?
a big chunk of inspiration for it was the concept of Peter seeing so much like. peace and community and what have you in this idea of the church involvement that he so desperately wants to be a part of, played against Jason's so desperately wanting to get out of it. if you see the vision.
just because [i’m] pretty
Over the years Ivy Robinson had been called a lot of things. Cutie, Angel, Pretty Baby, Slut, Whore, Bitch. Mostly she tried not to hold onto them too tight, not to think too deeply about how they felt in her mouth as she studied herself in the mirror. But occasionally something would stick. She just hadn't expected that something to be 'boyish'.
gay trans man ivy <3
a lot of times he is trying to explore/come to terms with himself through his art
although his romantic + sexual attraction to boys is obviously a cornerstone of his identity there'd also be largely platonic [& antagonistic & familial] relationship focuses
touch tank
A dramatic part of Peter wanted to let himself be bitter and jaded about his parents divorce, like every other seventeen-year-old main character. But the more sensible part of him knew that was unfair, and unrealistic - especially when it had led him to some of the prettiest, most interesting boys he had ever met.
good catholics <3 [my matt/peter/jason triad]
merfolk au! wherein jason is merfolk at the other two are not
set in a cliche small costal town , lots of cute vibes + also costal weather, because i love the rain
silly little subplots involving the other characters occur around the main story as well

ya know, I feel like we forget/don't think enough about the fact that Ronan canonically has killed several people
the sun dogs that Declan uses in his massacre, those were Ronan's dream, and he used them first, when the moderators came after Declan and Matthew at the townhouse
Ronan wasn't there in person putting bullets directly in heads too the way Declan was, but he did very much cause several people to die horrible violent deaths 😂

I know how it sounds at first, but I really gotta feel bad for the boys that sacrificed edwin; I mean even the term “sacrificed edwin” paints them in a more sinister light than they really deserve– considering that wasn’t really, actually their intention.
they were bullies, they were homophobic (and/or were self loathing gay boys themselves taking it out on edwin, or were equally likely peer pressured into acting a certain way), they planned something stupid and mean to do to an innocent, anxious boy with the goal of scaring the shit out of him, all because he was effeminate and an easy target. but they didn’t know or expect any of the ritual stuff to be real. they were all laughing and joking during the ritual because it was just that to them– a joke. a cruel joke, but a joke.
teenagers can be mean and stupid and they usually regret it as adults and grow out of it / grow from it. they were stifled the chance to grow out of it, at least while alive. none of those boys deserved to be instakilled and sent to hell; they’re really not that much less deserving than edwin himself. they were all just kids, after all.
#random thought but. yeah……#I mean think about if crystal happened to be killed somehow pre-demonic intervention#she would’ve been deemed deserving of hell by the standards we’ve seen. no doubt about it. if the dragon guys were pulled to hell then yeah.#she would be as well. simply put- she was a bully#she was also a teenager. not a fully developed person. a very damaged and neglected teenager at that#it’s kinda like the criminal justice system right. it’s like. hey you really think sending them to be tormented is the most humane and#efficient way to heal these kids of what makes them act out and allow them to grow and improve?#Crystal’s such a good case to look at because she’s. well. to compare to The Good Place which you can probably already tell I’ve watched 800#times and adore with all my heart. she’s kinda the michael of the group#no one knows it at first but she’s actually kind of a terror to people most of the time. but she’s put in a situation where she#suddenly has a support system- people who care about her and want the best for her- she’s given a purpose and realizes how much better it is#to use her powers to help rather than hurt (well. sometimes helping can involve hurting but you get it)#and by the time she’s regained her memories and has a place in the agency it’s much easier to reflect on her life and be like huh!#this system kinda fucking sucks!#not that edwin wasn’t an example unto himself but he was a ‘clerical error’ not a ‘rightfully’ condemned person#with his situation someone could argue that the problem isn’t with the system being wack as a whole- it should just be maintained better so#these ‘errors’ don’t happen and all the good kids go to their afterlives and the Bad Evil Kids go to hell.#yes yes I know they’re not in hell forever (hopefully) but uhh Simon was still there for over a century and for fucking What?#gay self-loathing and catholic guilt? his intentions were clearly not Truly Evil and more than anything he seems to have been punished using#how much he hated himself for being gay and how guilty he felt for it all. like shit aren’t those feelings enough of a punishment? if he had#lived through that ritual and edwin hadn’t– do you think he would’ve been Okay? I think it would’ve crushed him. chronically#man. anyway#this was an especially long ramble huh#rambling#edwin#edwin payne#dead boy detectives

In all my years, I've never seen a movie use non-christian pre-colonial religious imagery as a force of good against evil.
And the fact that in Wendall & Wild - a movie that takes place in a Catholic school, this type of imagery is portrayed as SO much more beautiful and powerful than the drab dreary Catholic imagery of the film... it was fuckin' rad as hell.

Re: lrb, even outside of the context of Neil Gaiman's Less Savory political beliefs (which we SHOULD be talking about and criticizing and disavowing), the way so much of this fandom treats him, the pedestal he's put on, is just. odd to me? I'm not a huge Fandom Person but I've watched shows before and idk I've just never seen this level of adherence to the writer's word being law. I see a Lot of people treat Good Omens like it's some kind of Intentional Queer Allegory, this High Gay Art For The Modern Age, which is extremely funny bc Good Omens famously did not begin this way lmao. I talk about this a lot but I'll say it on here too: author's intent is not the end-all be-all of what meaning can be found inside a work, and this applies to All authors not just ones I disagree with politically lol. Like I wrote a ten-paragraph, over 2,000-word essay about my own weird gay reading of the goomens s2 finale, but I don't want to give that credit to Neil Gaiman! I say in that essay that I don't know how intentional my reading was, and honestly I don't Care abt how intentional it was lmao. If Good Omens means something to you as a gay person I think that's Your doing, Your interpretation, Your ability as an audience member to find meaning in the art you engage with. My gay experience paints how I engage with art and I am an active participant in that engagement. Isn't that just Better than pretending that Neil Gaiman wrote Crowley to be the type of guy to post about "anarchist transsexual forest communes" all along? I thought this was the whole point of "fandom" lmao I thought this was about Us. Not some guy

it's really funny to me to see the difference between fanbases bc i havent seen a single person upset about the religious aspects of sister daniel or father phil, meanwhile just recently jake webber had to address "a controversy" of him and tara wearing a jesus and devil halloween costumes. like what.

After figuring out I was a lesbian, I felt like my goal should be to "work my way through it", will myself to being straight, and eventually have a sexless marriage with a man. In my mind, being gay was a choice or preference that you could get rid of, and that even if I couldn't control my thoughts, I could control my actions. That if I acted straight enough, eventually I could start believing the lie. That God was just testing my faith and those feelings would go away if I didn't indulge them. I'm endlessly grateful that those days are behind me now.
