hm. okay. this ask gets a complicated long answer.

before i state my response and opinion on this, i want to note i myself am an artist, and i’ve consulted many artists AND photographers on this topic, including my own father who is a professional artists and has to deal with stolen art CONSTANTLY.

straight up, i’m not going to be doing this. here’s why;

i have a hard strict rule that i will NOT use any art in its stereotypical meaning (drawn or painted) for any board. the ONLY exceptions to this is if it’s made by the requester, given to me by the requester, or are old / antique paintings. i also will not use a photo with a watermark because that clearly indicates they’re trying to profit off this photo, and don’t want it stolen.

with this, i only use pinterest for my moodboards and layouts. pinterest is viewed by a lot of people as free reign because 99% of it is reposted from somewhere else. is that okay? absolutely not but what can you do. most of it isn’t professional photography, simply random stock or pictures taken by normal people on their phone. half the photos on pinterest are posted by ad sites, or are stolen 99 times over. if you reverse image search an image i use, all that will show up is an avalanche of different pinterest links.

i’m not gonna be posting pinterest links because that feels like a bigger slap in the face than than no credit. that’s giving credit to someone who did not create it, which is even worse in my opinion than crediting nothing. that’s not better than nothing to me.

i will absolutely give credit if i know the explicit source of an image, that i will happily do. but if i don’t know the real source, i’m not. i am fully open and honest that NOTHING i post is my own except the formulation of boards and layouts, that i feel is enough. also finding the actual first explicit source of an image is near impossible when from pinterest.

l i have never seen any other moodboard account ever do this, so this isn’t like an overarching common sense rule i’m ignoring. also when you make a layout for your account, unless it’s art do you ever put link or photo credit? i have never seen that in my time on social media, and no offense anon i don’t think you do it either, no one does!

so TLDR; i’m not gonna be doing this. it seems more disrespectful than giving zero credit, and to me these images feel like they don’t need credit in general. if anyone has any other insight and opinions that side with why pinterest link credit should be given, please enlighten me, but i doing my opinion will change.

As alike as they look under their haircuts and tattoos, they’re individuals, plain as day, from how they style themselves to the way they stand and speak. Two: one of them is looking your way.

There’s a cool confidence in his demeanour, an effortless assurance to his movements, and he’s not at all embarrassed to be caught looking: though he’s still in conversation with the others, his eyes don’t waver from yours for a moment. And in truth, it’s not hard to actually stop and listen to his words: he speaks with confidence, cracks a few corny but endearing jokes, and answers the audience’s questions with a thoughtfulness and insight that catches you off guard. Shit, you think, swallowing down the flutter in your chest, he might have the edge on you. 

But in the end, he will get no mercy from you. The third time he gives in and glances in your direction, he finds you with your stylus poised at the corner of your mouth. Your pulse throbbing, you grind your thighs together, making a show of it. Your tongue darts out for just a moment and, soft and delicate, you press the stylus past your lips, teasing the tip. The effect is instant. Fives chokes on his last word, stifling a groan that quickly turns into a string of coughs. His eyes are blown wide, his cheeks several shades darker as he tries to regain his composure and remember what he had been saying.

You back off for the rest of the lecture, content to enjoy the feeling of his eyes on you and the playful glances you exchange from the moment he leaves the podium. Nothing in the fandom horrifies me as much as Sansan. I’ve had nice Sansans come into my inbox, so I do distinguish between my feelings about the ship and the shippers, but I hate the reinterpretation of the Hound because it minimizes what he did/tried to do to Sansa. Instead of the later scenes where Sansa thinks of him being about her processing the trauma of his assault, suddenly, they become a gross villain whitewashing, victim-blamey, “actually, she wanted it.”

I once even highlighted that whole "who will protect us from the guards" idea you mention because I think it was meant to emphasize what a travesty the Hound’s assault was:

This isn’t a romance, this is a pattern. The Hound saves her than tries to rape her, Tyrion is kind to her then agrees to marry her, a child, a prisoner of his family, and LF rescues her but then starts to sexually molest her. All the same, in each of these instances, Sansa is grateful, she thinks kindly of them, and I think that says a lot about Sansa that you completely miss if you romanticize it and pretend that the Hound is someone, something to her, that he isn’t. I also talk about the whole cloak thing in that post too because I think the more contextualized reading is the one we’re meant to adopt.

When I did take a look at the meta, I was so creeped out by the nature of it and the art. Although, I want to give credit where it’s due. Apparently they were some of the first people to start taking Sansa seriously and created the reading of Sansa becoming a political factor, so they did change the fandom’s perception of Sansa in a good way. But imo their love of the Hound causes an imbalance in how they read their scenes. The point isn't that the Hound wouldn't have hurt Sansa, the point was that he very well might have but Sansa's actions stopped him which ties into a much bigger idea and important aspect of Sansa's story:

Even after the Hound assaults Sansa, later, she thinks of how terrifying the fire was, as in, even then, she is able to empathize with him, the man who held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her. It’s laughable to suggest a man who mocked her relentlessly for who she was is capable of the same consideration. In fact, it is in a state of terror that the Hound attempts to rape Sansa and his fans use that to excuse his actions, and yet, while he is assaulting her, Sansa sings of mercy, gently touches his cheek. It’s almost like the very obvious interpretation, that the way to create a better world is Sansa’s method— not his— is what Martin expected people to understand, and his surprise people have turned it into something else altogether is genuine. As for Martin admitting he "played" with it, here's a clip. It's very short, and he's expressing surprise that his female readers like villains of which the Hound is one, and I think you can tell by his facial expression that the idea of the Hound and Sansa as a couple, is absolutely not where he ever intended to take things, not what he meant when he said he played with it. There are countless old monster movies with the monster being fascinated with a young girl or beautiful woman which humanizes him/shows a soft side. That's similar to Beauty and the Beast, the girl is what allows the monster to become human again, but in these variations, it isn't a romance. You can play with/reference tropes and ideas without it actually being a direct reiteration of the original story.

Ngl the show’s characters are so amazing that it genuinely is hard to say for sure, but I’d say Heatwave!!

Prepare for a ramble >:)

I already have a soft spot for grumpy characters and he falls into that category, but i genuinely love how the writers balanced his character so well that you don’t hate him for his gruffness, he’s that trope of “asshole with a heart of gold™”

The thing is, Heatwave isn’t fully a jerk either, he respects authoritarian figures, gives people credit where it’s due and has a sporting spirit and you can tell he cares deeply about the people he loves, but loves to put on a front (especially when it comes to kids)

He does have a bit of an ego but he knows when to keep it in check (basically doesn’t let his ego get in the way of his rescue work or uses it as an excuse to hurt people’s feelings)

In fact i’d say outta the rescue bots he’s the one who has faith in his family the most when it comes to knowing they can handle themselves, he’s the only one who doesn’t think Dani’s test pilot work is a big deal and explicitly states she knows her job and can handle herself, not that the others’ worries are out of place, it’s just that, for someone like him who’s overprotective, it’s nice to see him have so much faith

We can also see how much of a worrier he is in the “changes” episode, he doesn’t wanna leave the team cause he’s worried about them (and to me, it seems as tho he really doesn’t wanna seperate from them) but i believe that worry is less about him believing they can’t take care of themselves and more tied to his overprotective nature, he was worried they’d get hurt and he wouldn’t be there to protect them

He takes his job seriously both as a rescue bot and as a leader and takes responsibility for any shortcomings or reckless behavior that could’ve endangered people and i actually respect that a lot, cause most hotheaded characters are written in a way that they always think they’re in the right, which Heatwave doesn’t, his character breaks away from that usual writing and you’re presented with a hothead who actually takes responsibility for his actions which is really refreshing to see

The only times we see Heatwave acting recklessly is when he’s sure no one would get hurt, so it’s really funny to see for a hothead like him, cause he actually stops and thinks twice most of the time

All that aside, I do love when he acts like a jerk at times, they’re usually comedy gold moments, that one scene of him making fun of Blades cause of the scoop claw and when Cody gets upset with him, Heatwave literally tells Boulder and Chase “you guys never know when to stop do you?” Like MY MAN THAT WAS MOSTLY ALL YOU DHHDGDGDHHD (we here at signanothername do not condone bullying, we do however find it hilarious /j)

His character contrasts so well with Kade’s too and the two’s relationship is honestly so amazing aaaahxhdhdh

But what i love the most is the fact you can clearly see he grows as the show goes on, most his moments of him being a jerk are at the beginning of the series, later down the line he’s a lot more considerate and gentle, still acts like a jerk sometimes (cause he’s HW come on) but it’s a lot less than when in the beginning of the series

Not only that but how homesick he is and how Earth and Griffin Rock grow on him overtime, he starts very (and I mean VERY) angry, very not on board with staying, hell, he wants to leave in the first episode, but it’s so nice to see his struggle with accepting earth as his new home, and while I wholeheartedly believe everyone struggled through the same thing, they were prepared to look for their peace in their new home, Heatwave wasn’t at peace and he was very vocal about it

That’s why, the episode “Space Bots” is one of my favorites in the entirety of the series, aside the fact it’s a fun and unique episode, it’s the episode Heatwave finally calls Earth “home” and ngl it actually made me tear up a bit

Obviously to someone who never watched the show the scene seems mundane at best, but to someone very invested in the story and characters? (Cough me cough) it was such a heartwarming scene, Heatwave finally finding some internal peace and calling it home??? 10/10 crying and screaming

Of course, he still struggles, as we clearly see with the Allspark day episode in S3, he refuses to celebrate it cause he doesn’t see himself as part of the community yet, yes he accepted Earth as his new home but there’s still that dissonance between him and the people in Griffin Rock

So it’s genuinely interesting to see his journey towards finally feeling at peace and finding himself among the community he lives with

I love when the bots finally revealed themselves as aliens rather than robots in S4, Heatwave was very apprehensive about it, really scared to do so even when he’s grown fond of the community, so you can imagine my absolute joy at the absolute shock Heatwave displayed when the people of Griffin rock immediately accepted them and were very excited about it

SCHOOLWORK - the order

okay. imagine this: it’s been a few off days, and all of a sudden you have a shit ton to work on. and no clue where to start.

overwhelming, right? hopefully this will give you some direction.

ONE - where to start.

get some water, a snack if you need it, your computer, and get anything else unneeded and distracting out.

i always start with homework that’s due the soonest. and usually i do it during other classes. if you have a study hall, free pd. or a class where you just don’t do jack all? use that time. it means less to do at home when you’re not being forced to be as on topic. stop playing unblocked crosswords and work.

TWO - structuring your study.

i use essentially this structure when i have a lot to do. i like to knock out the easiest stuff first, so anything that won’t take long is done with already.

by the time i’m done with that, i’ve usually already gotten myself into the mood to work. i don’t like to take a break here because i’ll lose my flow, but you can if you need it. this is where i get into the stuff i’ve been putting off.

if i’m able to tackle all of that, or whatever part i said i’d do, i take a break here. make a game plan. what’s due next? is there anything else to work on? or do i need resources for something else?

then, if you still have the energy and want to, get into your threes and fours. this is stuff you probably don’t need to worry about, but if you really wanna get to the top, go for it.

i forgot to mention this also, but i consider extra credit in the threes/fours depending on size. if you can, always take extra credit. always. extracurriculars are a 5 (eg ctsos, fine arts, stuff that’s still academic. if it isn’t something still related to getting somewhere, i call it a 6 because it’s personal.)

THREE - keeping up with it.

i do my ones every single day. the moment i get something that falls into a one, it’s part of my daily schedule and will be done by the end of the day. it’s a good habit to have.

plus, this pushes me to do twos and maybe threes/fours. try not to let things get into the two area. if there’s a four and you can get it done before the week of, do it. twos are by far the most stressful to have, and you don’t like stress, right?

FOUR - tldr.

do schoolwork during classes when you have time 🕰️

remove distractions when you’re working snd get ready for you sessions 🚰

do the easiest/quickest stuff first. 📚

move onto harder stuff that needs to be done quickly afterwards. 🏎️

then do stuff that isn’t due soon. ⏰

❋ Well, it’s not just you. Right now, the whole of Blue Lock ─ not to mention the entire world ─ can hear Kaiser and the smugness to his voice.

❋ It would appear that even the sound of Kaiser’s voice is enough to set Isagi off, because he looks dangerously close to seizing a football and braining Kaiser with it. And wouldn’t that be a sight to see, two world-class footballers (from the same team, no less!) duking it out on the field like two squabbling children.

❋ You have to give Kaiser credit where it’s due, for ignoring Isagi’s annoyed glower in favour of continuing to talk as though nothing’s wrong. “He’s good. Fast, strong . . . And above all, beautiful.” Kaiser blatantly checks out Chigiri’s retreating figure with a toss of his head and smiles in a way that sets your teeth on edge. And it’s completely irrational, but a sick sense of jealousy pierces you then. “He’s a gem you’ll want to crush.”

❋ You can see Chigiri’s face upon the monitors, too. His thin jersey only serves to accentuate his slender frame and the lean length of his muscles. He’s too far away to hear Kaiser’s comments, and a small smile still tugs at the corners of his lips.

❋ You growl. You actually growl like a damn dog.

❋ (You aren’t sure if it’s in response to the sudden jealousy blooming in your chest like a poisonous flower, or if it’s because you don’t like how Kaiser talks about Chigiri, like he’s an object or a possession to toy with. But hey. That’s a problem for your future self to deal with.)

❋ Next to you, Igarashi squeaks, his face paling to the colour of chalk. Very wisely, he inches away from your scowl and your angry fingers digging into the clipboard.

❋ “Ah.” Noel Noa says, far too knowingly for your liking. He nods at you, unruffled. “Michael has that effect on people.”

❋ And of course he would notice the way your gaze lingers a tad too longingly on Chigiri. “Though I suspect your frustration is a result of other causes as well.”

❋ His tone is as monotonous as ever, but it still doesn’t stop the heat from rushing to your cheeks at dizzying speeds. And isn’t that just great, the greatest footballer in the world is now lecturing you about your love life.

People might roll their eyes for me saying this - but I truly am impressed by Khoreva’s improvements since her return to the stage. Like, can we take a second to appreciate just how much she has grown? Especially after touring in China and her most recent Don Quixote. I notice that she’s much more interactive with her partners, as well as more expressive in general. She seems much more confident on stage. I think she’s maturing into a wonderful artist who - while not quite there yet - will absolutely be deserving of principal status someday.

I recognize that not everyone has the same taste in dancers, and she is understandably not everyone’s favorite ballerina, but I do wish her detractors would give credit where it is due. While it is true that she has a lot of privilege, it is also true that she works very hard - and it shows. I wish people weren’t so quick to discredit her.

This also might be a controversial opinion, but I really don’t see what’s wrong with her social media presence. She seems like a young person who loves ballet and is sharing that with the world. She’s also contributed to the rising interest in ballet over recent years (almost as an ambassador for her art of sorts), and I see more people loving ballet as a good thing. Social media isn’t going anywhere, so we might as well get over ourselves and embrace it. Maybe my bias is showing, but I find her a lot more tolerable than some of the other influencer-type ballerinas.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my thoughts! I know my opinion is a popular one with her international fans, so maybe I’m beating a dead horse. Still felt compelled to share though. I appreciate that you always seem to take a kind and balanced approach, even when offering critiques.

I've spoken a bit about Khoreva before and I'm definitely not hiding that I'm a Khoreva fan so I'm totally in agreement with you.

I don't always love the "instagram ballerina" thing because there are some dancers on social media who seem to focus more on number of turns, hyperextensions, etc rather than artistry. However, Khoreva is definitely not one of them. I find a lot of her posts to be really interesting and insightful and I love her adagio combination videos. I especially like her youtube account because I'm grateful for any opportunity to watch more videos of Mariinsky performances.

I've also spoken some already about how much I've enjoyed seeing the growth of Khoreva's acting skills in the past couple of years and the new maturity in her after she returned from her injury. You're right, It's totally valid for Khoreva to just not be someone's favorite dancer (everyone has different taste), but I really feel like the excess criticism she gets is a David and Goliath kind of thing. She's just been given so many opportunities and advanced so fast that it's easier for some people to root for dancers like Khiteyeva (whom I also love) who spent years in the Corps de Ballet waiting for their shot.

I was so upset to hear that Khoreva is out on another injury so soon and I'm hoping that she recovers fully soon!

What if... Shaun had planned for Ian to cheat on Alice so he could be with her? What if Alice doesn't choose Jack and decides to be with Shaun?

If Ian finds out, he won't be happy.

Ohhhh my... Alice certainly wouldn’t be happy to find out about that.

I’ve seen that theory before about Shaun convincing Ian to cheat in order to break up the happy couple. It’s incredibly manipulative, though it would fit if Shaun is a yandere (along with possibly all the rest of the male leads) and not as nice and friendly as he presents himself. I even contemplated how Shaun (and the others) might be uniquely yandere in a previous post.

It reminds me of this lovely yandere Shaun art Sauce did on their now gone twitter. They really managed to make such a cuddly goth butterball so unsettling here...

Anyway, back to the topic of Shaun being a scary manipulative yandere puppet master...

The biggest reason why Alice chooses Jack rather than Shaun is because of the connection Jack and Alice have. He has a supernatural cheat, so to speak. She’s able to feel that Jack loves her and it goes a long way helping her heal after all the pain Ian put her through.

Ian, plus years of bullying, made Alice feel like he was the only one in the world who could ever be attracted to her or love her romantically. Then he betrayed her. He left her feeling undeserving of that sort of love and affection, especially since she is choosing to “abandon” him even though he’s so sorry.

This is the biggest hurdle to overcome when it comes to Alice opening her heart to love again. Her ability to feel Jack’s love goes a long way in helping her accept his love, that he isn’t going to hurt her like Ian did, and that she is worthy of love. Without that connection, it would take a lot longer for anyone to build up that level of trust to give her the courage to try again. Shaun or any other suitor would need to rely on patience and time before she even considered romance again. We’re talking years of building up trust.

I mean... Ian spent many years building up trust with Alice only to twist and destroy it. That’s not something easy to repair, even with a supernatural booster.

Plus Shaun was gone at that point, leaving Alice to feel alone until Jack came into her life. In a way, Shaun did the same thing Ian did when he left her behind to pursue his desired career. It’s not his fault, and she certainly doesn’t equate him to Ian, but she’s still left feeling lonely.

Alice was at the loneliest point in her life when Jack appeared. He’s too good to be true in so many ways, which is another reason why Sunshine in Hell is going to be a slow burn despite his cheat power. If something is too good to be true, it probably is, after all...

As such, by the time Shaun comes back into the picture, he’s too late to be chosen by Alice. He kind of self-sabotaged by leaving her alone, though even if he stayed, Jack would be incredibly stiff competition and would have the advantage due to their supernatural bond. It’s incredibly unlikely that Alice would choose anyone else with Jack around.

I did, however, consider an alternate universe where Alice never watched the tape and wound up with Shaun in this post. It’s a slower burn romance where he eventually helps her open up her heart to the possibility of love again after years have passed. It’s pretty sweet in its own right.

Though... if Shaun was manipulating her all along, that adds quite a bitter taint to the Shaun x Alice AU... and things would certainly end in a very sour way...

If Alice found out the person she opened up her heart to after Ian betrayed her was arguably even more toxic than Ian was... that would crush her. Learning that Ian was manipulated into cheating just as a ploy to get her? She would feel dirty in a way she couldn’t forgive. It would prevent her from trusting anyone again.

Except for maybe a supernatural entity who manages to touch her heart directly with his.

Though, even then, Jack would have a harder time even with that “cheat” helping Alice heal. She was devastated after Ian. Shaun doing something like this might practically destroy her. It’s a good thing Jack would be able to understand her and is patient. His sunshine is worth all the time in the world.

But man... imagine a tangled up mess of yanderes all toying with and crushing Alice’s heart in order to possess her... That’s an even more morbid AU than the Bad End AU, IMHO.

If Ian was a yandere in this twisted AU as well, hooooo boy. That would make it even worse. Most likely someone would wind up dead in the end.

How I can imagine this twisted timeline playing out would be similar to the sweet version of the Shaun x Alice AU... only after Alice blocks Ian, that gets Ian into a panic, to push even harder to get back in touch with her. Shaun would have to continue the manipulation on both sides, to make sure Ian won’t admit the truth and that Alice will keep pushing Ian away.

If Shaun was being a manipulative chess master, he would probably try and arrange other situations to push him and Alice closer together. He wouldn’t necessarily be patient enough to wait for her to heal on her own, if she ever does. If he went to the lengths of sabotaging her relationship to get her, then he’s going to do more.

Since this version of Shaun would be the sort of person who doesn’t care if Alice or others get hurt as long as she winds up with him, even if only justifying that a “little” pain is worth a “happy ending” with him... I’m sure he would set up more situations that hurt her and make her desperately in need of love and support. Fortunately, good ole Shaun is there for her...

Love, however, isn’t something that’s easy to manipulate into growing. It relies on emotion and that isn’t an exact science. The more hurt Alice is, the more cautious she is about being hurt again. I can easily see ploys backfiring. Sure she clings to Shaun more for support and comfort as awful things happen, but with her luck being so abysmal, she would be that much more afraid of ruining what they have by changing the relationship.

Then there’s also Ian’s role in things. He isn’t sitting back and letting his relationship with Alice die so easily. He would be even more determined if he was talked into wrecking his relationship by the person who she is suddenly spending all her time with.

It would be a pretty fucked up thing if Shaun managed to toy with Alice’s life and heart like this in order to win her like a prize, and Ian won’t just idly sit still and let that happen. They would be both trying to bind her to them with the red string of fate, as it were... only poor Alice would be strangled by the red string in the process...

When Alice finds out the truth in this universe - and believe me the truth would definitely come out eventually - she would be devastated. I can’t understate how much this would hurt her and make her feel used and filthy. The poor girl would be broken. It’s the worst case scenario... and the sort of reason why she was so hesitant to try love again.

In this sort of AU, Alice would be a mess, especially by the end of the story. She would’ve been used and betrayed in the worst ways imaginable with her mind fucked up by all the emotional manipulation... not to mention all the blood, violence, madness, and death that likely would result from two yanderes facing off and fighting over her, twisting her heart to pieces.

Plus, if Shaun is the type of yandere to justify hurting Alice in order to keep her, how far would he take it? How much worse would he do to her? Would he go as far as to lock her up or cripple her? Blind her like Moon Pie and keep her in a cage? He already damaged her very badly emotionally, so who knows how far he might go...

It’s a scary thought... and more reason why I’d want Alice to play the tape before things get past the point of no return in this sort of AU.

Yes, it would be adding another dangerous yandere to the mix, but at least Jack draws the line at hurting Alice. He’s manipulative, he makes his sunshine feel good to draw her in, and he uses other unsavory tactics, but he won’t do anything she doesn’t want, and he doesn’t want to hurt her. Those are lines he will not cross.

In the end, Alice would be left broken, and Jack would have to be the one to put the pieces back together. It would take much more time for her to trust again and heal, so much more than in the normal universe, but I’m sure Jack can be patient... after he’s taken care of Shaun and Ian.

Though I imagine it wouldn’t quite be so easy if Shaun is a manipulative puppet master. He might get wise to something supernatural going on, if Alice didn’t outright tell him about Jack in this universe. I can tell you, Jack and Shaun certainly wouldn’t be friends in this AU.

I’m going to say Jack wins out in the end and eventually helps Alice heal, even if it takes a long time even with their bond... if only because this AU idea is just too depressing and dark for me otherwise.

Hurt in fiction is only fun when comfort follows, after all... and Alice is going to need a lot of comfort in a painful AU like this one.

S5 Speculation Theories Post

Because I kept delaying this post since I wanted to see if any of my theories / thoughts about where S5 may lead would change, and the only thing that has is that I feel more firm in my belief about one of them, so here it is: a dumping ground for the various paths S5 could take pertaining the main cast, the mage fam, Sunfire politics, Aaravos, the coins, and Rayllum. 

Mage Fam

Much of my original thoughts concerning the mage fam, specifically Viren eventually stepping away from Aaravos and doubly down on “my life is not worth the cost of freeing him” (whether that’s the safety of the world due to untold danger/destruction, or just for Claudia’s well-being) still hold very true to me. We see Viren wrestle with a lot in season four. In 4x02, he reckons with some of the consequences, opportunities, and desires he’s struggled with over the first three seasons. But we also see his continued guilt over what Claudia has gone through as a result of everything, best seen perhaps in the nightmare-memory he has with the “She is not an asset, she is my daughter.”

While the end of 4x09 showed Viren regressing in some ways in picking up his staff, I think the end credit art with him passing out, the realization that his killer (Rayla) is still alive, and the situation to free him growing increasingly more desperate will push him (and Terry) and Claudia further and further apart. We’ve already seen that Terry has a good heart and that he’s stuck by Claudia because he believed in her reasoning: it’s understandable to want to save your father. However, much worse will happen if Aaravos is unleashed, something that Terry currently doesn’t have much knowledge of, and if he learned some of it, I think he would start having reservations. 

And we see how Claudia is when people don’t agree with her or doubt her methods.

So I think Claudia staying under Aaravos’ thumb post-s5 (re: him being shown whispering in her ear in 4x04, as opposed to any of his other prime pawn options in the intro like Viren and Callum) means she’ll continue to be the driving force behind freeing him, even if Terry and Viren possibly defect. 

I also think we’ll see a lot more of Soren and Corvus, not only because comments from cast and crew have made it clear they’re going to get more screentime, but also because it would give Soren a space where he could express some of what he’s going through now that he had an unsuccessful reunion with Claudia and knows that his father is alive again, because boy, that’s a Lot to unpack. Although not quite developed in full, I was partially right regarding Soren stepping up as the group’s protector in a lot of ways; he’s the moral compass when Rayla refuses, he’s the one who runs to and gets Ezran out safely, he’s looking out for Callum’s feelings, etc. I think we’ll only see more of that as we go on. 

Now onto the kiddos themselves 

Regrouping in Katolis / Ezran

This is largely based off an audio clip of a pleased Soren, exasperated Opeli, and tense Ezran of a future season we got at a con like, 2+ years ago, but I think it’s possible the main group (or at least Ez) will head back to Katolis to regroup for a bit in season four. The Dragang may have decided to switch gears from trying to stop Aaravos outright, somewhat, and trying to focus instead on what they’re going to do if/when after he gets out. 

Given that the Sea of the Cast Out is closer to the border / Katolis and quite far from Umber Tor, coming back to Katolis to discuss politics with the other kingdoms (now calling for solidarity and giving us a Pentarchy update) could be part of Ezran’s arc next season if it isn’t mostly reserved for S6, as well as possibly expanding on his parallels to the Orphan Queen, particularly if he and Callum disagree on where to take things. It’s now been confirmed the other human involved in jailing Aaravos was a human mage and puzzle master, so that could be another generational parallel to draw on for the brothers as well as Viren and Harrow.

As I mentioned in a previous post, season four is book ended by Ezran’s overestimating peoples’ ability to move on and/or be rational about things. We see this with his well-meaning but ultimately painful birthday party for his brother in 4x01, his miscalculation regarding the Dragon Queen’s visit in 4x03 even as his speech demonstrates his ability to grow, and him risking his life in failing to calm Rex Igneous down in 4x09. This is not to say Ezran has no successes in season four, but I wouldn’t be surprised if season five pushes Ezran even further into realizing that words cannot always solve things. If he does have to go to the Pentarchy in a call for solidarity, it would be a very interesting parallel and inversion to S2 Viren, in which Aanya was the high mage’s only opposition and now Ezran’s only ally. 

Speaking of politics, let’s move onto the

Sunfire Side of Things

Given Karim saying “This rising sun may become a falling star,” the fact he’s a mage specifically (and not just a warrior), his deep interest in history, and that he’s impatient in ways that Viren was (even turning against his sibling-turned-monarch figure), I think even if he doesn’t fall prey outright to Aaravos in some manner, he will be playing into Aaravos’ hands. Part of this is due to out of context spoilers from SDCC 2021 that included indications of Janai and Karim having intercut but opposing speeches and more Sunfire elf conflict. We also know, according to the supplementary material of Callum’s Spellbook that foreshadowed Rex Igneous eating a jelly tart, that Sunfire elves also have a light being mode similar to their heat being mode, but it’s used for healing rather than combat. 

The story of the first Golden Knight being one to take down a mad king in another sibling conflict makes me wonder if Karim will eventually win and temporarily topple Amaya, only for him to be more progressively unwell / unhinged until Janai reclaims her throne and defeats him, thus reaffirming her status as queen as an honourable Golden Knight. I’m still hoping they’ll reconcile and I think they will, given Karim’s sympathetic motivations and the fact they still have love for each other, but I wouldn’t be surprised if S5 ends with Janai losing her kingdom. From there, perhaps either Janai or Amaya will be injured, with Karim using light being mode to heal one or both of them and fix some of his wrongdoings. 

The Coins

In my mind, there are three main paths that Rayla’s feelings about the coins could go next season. Now, I don’t believe her parents will be getting out successfully next season. There is already so much that has previously been set up and it seems necessary that Aaravos will be released next season (but more on that later). Additionally, a Q&A confirmed that the stack of four coins in one of the S1-S3 credits was intentional, and that there’s a fourth person imprisoned in the coins. Therefore, there’s an important player that is still with Viren and Claudia and who still needs to be freed. So like I said, I think there are three main options in no particular order of likeliness:

1) Rayla keeps the coins a secret at first from Callum and co., as she doesn’t know what she wants to do with them, and she doesn’t want to be something like a burden when there is already so much going on / feels like she has no right to ask for help after everything

2.1) Callum encourages Rayla to look into the coins even if that takes her away from their current mission (a la “You have to go get that dagger, we’ll find help for the egg” in 1x07 and “You’re right” about the dragon in 2x07) and she goes, leading to some kind of run in with Kim’Dael, the Bloodmoon Huntress she encountered as a child. This could explain the out of context spoiler from SDCC 2021 as to why Callum and Ezran appear to arrive in Elarion on their own without Rayla present, or could.

2.2) Callum becomes obsessed partially with looking into the coins in an attempt to fix everything / Rayla’s problems (because if her problems are fixed then she’ll stay, obviously) in a more intense version of what we see in Through The Moon and for a similar purpose. This could lead to him considering dark magic as Jack De Sena alluded to an interview pre-S4 but in the lead up to the season release, and it has also been alluded to that the only way to undo the coins is dark magic at all. While I don’t think that dark magic will be able to successfully free them (cause it’s a bit too muddled thematically right now) or that it’ll be happening yet, attempts could still lead down a dangerous path, or even Rayla asking Callum to look into freeing her parents for her as, after two years of failing and failing to catch the bag in the first place, she feels like she can’t trust herself.

3) Even with (or without) Callum’s encouragement or knowledge regarding the coins, Rayla resolves to stay by his side and to help them defeat Aaravos / watch over him. This leaves room for them to get the fourth coin and possibly have some failed attempts to get it / free her parents, but also the way clear for the season finale to revolve around stopping Aaravos from being freed from his prison. It also keeps Rayla where she needs to be (by Callum’s side) during a future possession or the like scene, as they wouldn’t waste that set up and the clear light and dark symbolism (but more on that later). 

As of right now, I think option 3) is the most likely as it keeps the main group together for the season climax in the most straight forward manner as well as pushing Rayla to evaluate and choose what matters to her most, especially in wake of leaving Callum and now wanting to stay, and her persistent drive and determination to stop Viren. There’s not much point in bringing her parents back into a world that, according to her, might be ending. 

But for all of this as always, we shall have to see. For the next to last section specifically, I want to talk about

Rayllum

in season five in general. Simply put: I think Ocean is going to be Our Season, for a number of reasons. Even more so than season three perhaps. So let’s get into the reasons shall we?

1) Now that Callum is able to admit to himself that Rayla’s presence in his life is always worth the pain she could bring, and that he still cares about/loves her, they’ll get to start repairing their relationship verbally rather than just through action the way they largely did in S4.

2) Season four focused more on Callum’s feelings 100% (not unlike how S2 focused more on him, only for S3 to focus more on Rayla’s emotional journey) and with the coins as a catalyst, I’m sure S5 will focus more on her in general. This means diving deeper into what she may have gone through during the timeskip as she clearly went through something, what inspired her to come back, and more explicit insight than implication in terms of how she views herself now, even if she know how she views their relationship and that she’s still scared of losing him: “I risked losing the best thing I ever had: you.” 

3) With the confirmation that we’re seeing Tidebound elves next season, it seems a surefire thing that Book 5 is Ocean. This is exciting for so many reasons. The first is that ocean/water is a particularly loaded motif and symbol for Rayla and her shame/guilt complex/emotional issues. The second that this is a perfect stage for Callum and Rayla’s full reconciliation. Not only for stakes and romance as the world possibly ends, but because they both have a drowning motif 

And Callum has a breathing / suffocation motif as well that is also interwoven in his relationship with Rayla in the first place, i.e. he breathes better when she’s around. It was primarily established in season two and I was very happy to see season four bring it back around. 

So it plays perfectly into my Mutual Salvation Theory in which Rayla will save Callum from Aaravos emotionally/mentally from Aaravos, ultimately, and with Callum possibly saving Rayla physically as well (since she can’t do everything alone; Claudia has a tendency of using Rayla’s former plans against her, i.e. threatening a boyfriend for leverage; S4 setting up a question of what Callum would be willing to give the cube up for; this always being their emotional pattern; and why I think Callum being possessed can’t be solely why Aaravos gets out). 

4) Mutual salvation theory / Callum connecting to the Moon Arcanum / Light and dark motif. 

It seems a done deal in some ways that Rayla will ultimately be the one to break Callum free of possession/brainwashing and save him emotionally and physically from Aaravos. This may result in Callum connecting to the Moon arcanum as he re-connects with Rayla over the course of S5 and finally letting the past four seasons of Moon arcanum foreshadowing culminate in a beautiful symbolic and literal bow. This would also allow Callum to reconcile the light and the darkness he choose a middle path, if not the light outright.

The Rayla and Callum as each other’s light in the darkness motif was true even in the previous seasons, although S4 made it as about as overt as it possibly could without stating it outright, gearing up for something truly spectacular in season five. This would play in perfectly with both Callum’s reconciliation of the Moon arcanum / reconnecting with Rayla, as well as Rayla being the “other path” he can choose away from this path of darkness, literally and symbolically. 

Last but not least for this section, a post regarding the theory multiple people have put forth in regards to Callum leaving the group out of fear, although it’s not very extensive as I think if the season does go this way, it’ll be a finale or one episode plot line and I think it ties into the “possession” plot line more so that I’ve already addressed. 

Aaravos

I think the Startouch elf is getting out of the mirror for sure by the end of season 5 since S6 has to give the heroes a chance to defeat him in person and it won’t work (hence why S7 exists). I lean more towards Callum’s possession plot line being fulfilled / finished in S5 as well since it has to be before Aaravos gets out, or Callum will dip then (but that’d be S6 as Aaravos isn’t likely getting out any sooner than the end of S5 I’d presume). I think the Key of Aaravos will be used and/or in his possession by the end of the season as well, given the consistent way the Key is introduced with the Star, Earth, and Ocean primals on display when it comes to talking about secrets or other foreshadowing. I don’t think possessing Callum is a requirement of Aaravos’ endgame prison release goal, merely a means to manipulate him.

Ultimately Aaravos’ speculated release is most interesting to me because it means that everything the core trio and co. will attempt in S5 is inevitably futile. They cannot win and they cannot / will not stop him from being released. If you want more details on precisely how that might go, please check out this tag.

Conclusion

Kevin’s eyesight is incredibly poor ever since his mother’s abuse. His eyes are permanently scarred and damaged, though Vesely’s doctors have tried their best to fix it. He has to wear protective goggles and glasses because bright lights give him aggressive headaches.

Kevin jokingly flirts with his friends, but he also has a small crush on Will that he won’t act on because he knows that boy is shy to affection and already likes someone else.

The reason Kevin dyes the tips of his hair hot pink is so he doesn’t look at himself in the mirror and see his mother.

He drinks a ton of coffee, mostly iced, because he has insomnia from his fear of waking up in his old house.

He mostly uses his own momentum to fight. Rio teaches him how to use his arms as a whip.

Kevin is proudly pansexual and makes sure that everyone knows he isn’t picky. He uses “he/him” pronouns, but he doesn’t mind being called “they/them” either.

Christmas, for the music and the food, and because he gets to decorate his friends’ dorm and make it feel like a home. He never realized that kids got gifts on Christmas until he started staying with his friends, and now he’s excited to give things.

It’s pigs, specifically teacup pigs. Riley always asks Kevin how someone as “flashy and fabulous” as him could love such a messy animal, and Kevin gets so offended.

Long ago, I actually gave him a pet pig. He called it Ham Solo.

Kevin’s favorite class was an elective drama course he had for a year. He loves performing for people and having their positive attention, in an art form where he’s separated by a stage and no one can run up and hurt him.

🍎 Where was your oc born? Do they still live in/around their place of birth or do they live somewhere else? How do they feel about their birthplace?

Kevin was born in Preston, on the outskirts of the main town and suburbs. He acts like he doesn’t care about his old home, but deep down, he’s terrified of the mere idea of going back there. He wouldn’t calm down for his first few weeks of training until Jason swore to him that he wouldn’t return to his parents.

❤️ What are three of your oc's positive traits?

Kevin may act like he enjoys being the center of attention, but he’s actually more humble than people give him credit for. He makes sure his friends get their due respect during training, and even when he brags about his own training, it’s never at someone else’s expense. His loyalty to his friends is limitless.

His personal goal is to make his friends smile and laugh. Whatever they need or want, he’ll do it for them, even if it’s just making himself look like a fool.

Kevin is very patient and understanding. He’ll listen to anyone, no matter how long they take to speak or if they struggle to express themselves. He refuses to make anyone feel dumb or useless.

Kevin tends to joke around a little too much. He won’t take certain training exercises seriously, and it ends up getting him hurt.

On that note, Kevin doesn’t care if he injured himself. He thinks he’s indestructible so he charges headfirst into a problem, and he also just has little regard for his own health because he’s been taught to feel insignificant.

Every so often, his aggressive self-loathing comes through. He’ll say the most horrible things about himself when he no longer has the energy to smile through the pain.

💙 Does your oc have any cool/special powers and/or abilities? how are they with magic, if it exists in their world?

The Freak genes that Kevin was born with basically gave his skin and bones rubber-like qualities. He can stretch and squish himself however he sees fit, like how an octopus can squeeze itself through a hole. The further out he stretches, though, the more vulnerable that area is to snapping.

💜 What is your oc's ancestry/genetic background?

Kevin is the only son of the Mallory family. His parents could barely afford their house and food. When Kevin’s powers developed, his mother punished him for it in the cruelest ways possible, nearly blinding her son as a result. His father sat idly by, not lifting a finger to help him. The neighbors were the ones to call the police, and that’s how Vesely heard about him. Jason was the one to bring him in, and he became an important parental figure to Kevin.

Eventually, Kevin gets adopted by a wealthy family, the Valentinas. They’re absolutely guilty of spoiling their new son, but he deserves it after the hell he’s been through.

🤔 What are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?

When Kevin is bored, he’ll often stretch and bounce his arm like a yo-yo. If no one else is around, he’ll wrap his arms around himself in a big snake-like hug.

I’m not sure if it counts, but when he laughs at something, it’s a full-on hyena cackle. There is no quiet mode for him when it comes to jokes.

Lightyear was an amazing interpretation of Buzz Lightyear’s start. Just like Toy Story’s Buzz Lightyear was an amazing interpretation of Buzz Lightyear as a Toy. And the Buzz Lightyear Star Command cartoon was an amazing interpretation of Buzz Lightyear after being marketed to kids. That being said - Tim Allen not liking Lightyear is disappointing and honestly sad. Because Lightyear IS suppose to be different. This movie was just an inspiration for the toys we see in the Toy Story franchise and the reason the toy was made to promote the movie Andy saw. That’s it. The cartoon show is something that came after that film as we can interpret based on the fact that we didn’t know about the cartoon until after the 1st Toy Story movie and the Beginning of toy story 2 because that is when all the Buzz Lightyear merchandize and cartoon was (we can assume based on the facts) a big commercial success in the Toy Story universe and even got a video game by that point. Just because it isn’t the same Buzz and voiced by a different actor does not make the movie bad or not worth seeing. I feel like Pixar didn’t want a reboot. They wanted to give us Buzz’s story that Andy saw as a kid that made him want the toy and thus creating that big boom effect of kids saying good bye to westerns and hello space travel! But with an obviously deeper story that we as now adults - that grew up with toy story - can find more engaging and beautiful because of its deeper story telling more than a cartoon based movie others wanted. Plus I think Chris Evan did it justice! He really did try to make sure his voice and how he said things as the character were close to how Tim Allen! That is mad respect! He knew this was an ICONIC character and he didn’t butcher it. If anything I personally forgot that I was watching a different actor voice the role. To me, it was just Buzz Lightyear. Tim Allen voiced a great character but don’t let him discredit a new generation of fans because it isn’t something he would have preferred. Give credit where it’s due. Because this movie was refreshing and new. The art was amazing. The characters were engaging. This movie is worth seeing. - Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

genshin 3.3 scara spoilers bc im crazy and literally CANT get my mind off of ghis shit

disclaimer i havent played through the patch but i HAVE read up on what i need to know and i probably wont be playing it for a while. im really pissed off. i don’t think this patch was given the respect and care it deserved.

my problem is literally this: things don’t add up. and not just in an annoying ‘something is off’ kind of way. no. in a blatantly misleading way, like the rug is being pulled from under my feet and i’m expected to stand there and let myself hit the ground. facts don’t line up. the timeline of events isn’t consistent. the characters involved and their motives don’t make sense in context.

before i keep going, i want to say this. i’m obviously giving the devs and writers their due credit. these jobs arent easy and, especially in a story with as many characters and moving parts as genshin, inconsistencies here and there are inevitable.

that’s NOT the issue here.

as u go back and read what we had on scara’s past before 3.3, ull start to see how confusing and contradictory the 3.3 version of events is from what existed in the aged notes on tatarasuna and the ‘husk of opulent dreams’ artifact set descriptions. note that this information on scara’s life, as well as scara’s overall design and personality, has been in development since the game began. his first appearance was during the unreconciled stars event. thats version 1.1. 3.3 feels like it’s telling a completely different story, some wacky dream version of what we first read about, and it’s… it’s bad. to the point where i was stunned by the amount of detail and clarity lost. i puzzled over why hoyo would make it harder for themselves like this. because that’s what this does- they had a timeline already. it fit into the overarching plot just fine. the added and altered details, like niwa, like dottore’s inexplicable presence literally everywhere, don’t contribute depth to the existing story. they don’t give us clarity. at all.

for example: the katsuragi/niwa being two separate people situation. it can be funny, sure, but yall. niwa was not in the notes. he didn’t exist before the irodori festival. and if the notes were a witness’ (kinjirou’s) record of what happened within the tatarasuna group during that time, why wasn’t their freaking superior and kunikuzushi’s closest friend mentioned in any of them, while a supposed nobody like katsuragi was? according to 3.3, niwa was one of the sources of scara’s betrayals… but the old notes heavily imply that the trigger was the murder of katsuragi. why was katsuragi’s conflict with nagamasa cheapened like this? literally what was the reason, aside from finding some way to drag dottore into it?

tbh i personally believe that there’s a chance katsuragi was always meant to be the trigger/kunikuzushi’s closest person/the one behind the unique brown-haired npc character. katsuragi was too involved in kunikuzushi’s life and the incident at the furnace to be just some guy, while niwa… barely makes an appearance before 3.3. i wonder what the reason was for bringing niwa so high up in importance. just because he’s a kaedehara? (honestly i’d assumed katsuragi was the kaedehara) btw, if scara wanted revenge for niwa ‘leaving’… why did he ultimately spare the isshin art along with amenoma? why did he even wipe out the other sword arts, like- if we take these events to be the truth, what purpose did that serve him? am i missing something here?

‘he was erased from everyone’s memory’ reads to me like a cheap excuse to get away with being inconsistent. “oh the timeline is just fucky” no. time and memories can be really interesting themes to explore… but not when they’re misused at the expense of the characters involved.

i know a lot of people came out of 3.3 enjoying it. and that’s fine. i’m not coming at yall.

through my understanding, tho, it’s obvious that this is not what was originally intended for scaramouche. it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. he was (is) a beautiful character… he deserved attention and care. he deserved his story faithfully told.

did the individual(s) who initially created and helped develop scaramouche leave the company? did the new writers hired for sumeru not have enough information? did they decide to just say fuck it and do their own thing? did they dislike what was established for scara before? was it management meddling with the creative process? was it crunch and an impossible deadline? was it some lazy way of tying up loose threads for the next act? was it spite? is there more to it? i think it must be a mix of multiple things.

doesn’t matter now. all i know is i don’t care for whatever it is. it’s already been difficult to find the energy to play through the story given how depressing sumeru was for me in general, and this definitely didn’t help. i’m going to be here blissfully creating my own content following the original sources and ignoring this patch ❤️

BUT to answer your question properly, it definitely was a bit of a process! Going into Kaiju!AU & Genesis Day I had a rough idea of certain things I wanted before commissioning the wonderful @herebegiants (who, let me just say, was AMAZINGLY patient with some of my indecisiveness at times and a wonderful partner and support through this process) but I think it ultimately boiled down to the following four points: retain the color palette from GTU, give her lightning powers, invoke Godzilla imagery, retain her Humanity.

1. Retain the color palette from GTU:

Color is something that’s very important to me in character design. There is so much symbolism that can come from the inclusion and saturation of certain colors in a palette. And while I had fussed about with her original GTU/University!AU color scheme, I ultimately wanted to retain the same cherry red and aqua blue, while having it off-set by the black and white and keeping her brilliant green eyes. Herebegiants played around with a few combinations of the colors in different placements and gradients, and ultimately I fell in love with her current colors. The blonde tragically did have to get replaced, but I think it helped to saturate the more “natural” colors of a human in favor of the most alien and unique colors that a Kaiju would have to offer.

Also a +100ft monster lady with glowing green eyes is just *chef’s kiss*.

2. Give her lightning powers:

Like color palettes, a character’s unique powers really help set them apart. Now of course Freyja didn’t have lightning powers in any AU by this point, but any of my friends can tell you that I’ve always likened Freyja unto a summer thunderstorm. Particular in places like Oklahoma and South Carolina (two places where I’ve lived), you would get humid thunderstorms with powerful roars of lightning and brilliant rivers of lightning (accompanied by torrents of rain and wind as well). 

And Freyja is very much like that. She is a POWERFUL character in both physique and personality. But that isn’t to say she’s destructive. She just typifies that raw, loud energy but also has gentleness of rain that helps the fields grow and flourish and winds that help the sailor’s voyage. So it was only natural that her body just be crackling with energy tied to her emotions (especially when she blushes or gets excited).

3. Invoke Godzilla imagery:

How can you have Kaiju without at least some references to Godzilla? Herebegiants and I went through a series of different iterations of plating, spikes, fins, etc., to finally get to something that captured elements of Godzilla. Thicker plating at points, spikes on the arms and calves and knuckles, fins up the spine, etc. 

There were some things I wanted to avoid, however. Long-ranged attacks such as vision-based or breath-based powers (heat vision or atomic breath) I wanted to avoid, along with not giving her a tail. A lot of Frey’s charm for me comes from her being a brawler who uses her head, fists, teeth, knees, etc. against her foe. A tail, while very Godzilla-ie, would slow her down due to her bulk and size and long-ranged attacks would somewhat rob her of the defining trait that makes Freyja so endearing for me: she’s a woman who really really likes to punch stuff.

She might get a bit more monster-ie as time progresses (who knows what the Cambrian Engine’s effects will have on her long-term?), but for now I’m rather happy with the balance I’ve struck with her colorful qualities.

4. Retain her Humanity:

At the end of the day, Kaiju!Freyja is still a Human. And while she is categorized as a specific type of Kaiju in Genesis Day (the Nephilim-class), she is still very much a Human. She has hopes, dreams, fears, and can feel love and anger and joy just like any other woman would. And while that isn’t to say that characters who don’t look like Humans can’t feel those things either, on the contrary, I still wanted her to have that semblance of Humanity in her Kaiju!AU to help show that balance between Human and monster.
