there are many good points being made about s2 sexually humiliated alicent, but it was also in season 1 as well. alicent's body and very personhood was always being violated from the moment she married viserys (even earlier). it's as if the narrative blamed her for being roomed by viserys and otto, and wanted to shame her for doing so.

the scenes where she, at either 15 or 16 was shown pregnant I believe with Helaena? On one hand, yes, it's supposed to show us how awful it was for a young girl to be trapped in a forced marriage. But the show itself hasn't been able to commit to that. They've shown us a very dark side of him when it came to Aemma, but that was it. The show pretty much , pacified him after that. In S2, we are shown a scene of him crying of Aemma in Daemon's vision. There was no attempt to point out that he was the one who killed Aemma, he has just been portrayed as sympathetic. So, it's very difficult for me to know if the show wants us to view Viserys as an abusive, entitled man who forced both his wives to have children and then killed one - or if they lost that plot, and want to portray him as a loving, doting father. Bringing this back to Alicent, again, we see a young girl pregnant by a man twice her age, but the show doesn't know whether or not that should be a good or bad thing. Rhaenyra resents her for it. The vibe of the show changes; we see Alicent and the baby in her belly as a threat to Rhaenyra. The mere idea that she is in that condition is made to look like a bad thing, and the way the narrative tone builds around her, her being pregnant is supposed to be shameful because it puts her in direct opposition to Rhaenyra.

Another point of sexual humiliation is in her conversation with Rhaenyra. Wherein Alicent, who has had no romance in her life, tells Rhaenyra that she finds it romantic that people are trying to win her heart, to make her feel better. In response, Rhaenyra takes a jab at Alicent's life: 'who wants to be made to be trapped in a castle and squeeze out heirs' she says something to that nature, not the exact words but you get me. I know this was a jab at alicent because Rhaenyra apologizes, but Rhaenyra is fully aware that Alicent herself has no choice in that, and still decides to humiliate her sexually. This is also a direct act of the writers to bring up the fact that Alicent is a victim, yet do absolutely nothing about it.

Either the same episode, or the next episode, we see Alicent being raped by Viserys. Again, we can say that this is supposed to be bad, but the show failed to actually show us that it was. As people who like Alicent, of course, we were disturbed by it but most people were saying that she deserved it and were making fun of her. This is the writer's problem and their lack of commitment to making Viserys a problematic person. This was in stark contrast to Rhaenyra, who had just made Criston sleep with her, and she was clearly having the time of her life. Because of these two scenes being contrasted, it's led the fandom to, stupidly, say that Alicent was jealous of Rhaenyra because she 'got' Criston while Alicent was stuck with Viserys. And the writing once again, doesn't do anything to try to highlight and point out the fact that what Viserys was doing was wrong.

The point of all of this is that Alicent has always been a victim of sexual shame. Her sexuality, body, and whole presence is always under scrutiny. From showing her as a young girl heavily pregnant, and having Rhaenyra be cold to her because of her, and make a joke about it, to showing her being sexually assaulted and the show and fandom still having a love boner for Viserys.

She is usually contrasted to Rhaenyra, who up until recently, was praised for her outward sexuality by the narrative. Her pregnancies are treated with care and concern, even with Visenya. We see her give birth to Joffery, and aside from showing him to Alicent, both Joffery and Rhaenyra are showered with love. when we see Rhaenyra pregnant, it is framed to look like a good, happy situation for her. She is not forced, she is free, her relationship to to her children is strong. She also again, has sexual freedom.

I don't know exactly why the showwriters decided to punish Alicent in this way either.

I recently finished the book and Aegon is so interesting and complex, he is definitely one of the most complex and interesting characters in the dance, also Helaena give me Margary vibes. It's kind crazy how they turned Aegon from the complex character in a history book mind you to this one note depraved Joffery's clone and they butchered Helaena as well😭 and then they call their story nuanced and grey lmaoo

Aegon is the only one that gets an arc, he’s an incredible character and so good to read, I’d kill for single a POV chapter of him and Helaena.

And our Queen? She was happy and very involved, she was able to convince Aegon to send the peace terms. You know that he got worse after B&C because of her and his son, he lost them both that day.

Helaena being cunning like Margaery would be amazing to see on screen.

Why Aemond, Alicent, Rhaenyra, Daemon and others have been all whitewashed to the point some of them even became new characters while Aegon has been made worse in the show than his book counterpart? The whole thing about watching children killing eachother when some of them might be his own children is something didn't happen in the book and it's actually ramsay-level sadism, the whole plot line of given his younger brother a sexual trauma was invented by the show, he is so incompetent and drunk all the times. BookAegon was drunken yes but it's no where in the same level of his show counterpart, also Book!Aegon shown cunning and bravery during the war , has a very strong bond with sunfyre, has a good relationship with his wife and children.and all of these traits/things are non existing in Show!Egg . BookEgg always give me the impression that he has a strong mentality and perhaps even internal strength since he went through the worst things any person can go through in a such young age but he never give up until he succeeded in killing rhaenyra . The only times we've seen him show any kind of vulnerability are when his son jaehaerys died and when sunfyre has died. The interpretation of the showrunners of his character is not only very bad but it's also strange , inconsistent and extremely unfair considering how literally everyone has been whitewashed. which makes me wonder, what they will change too? will They make him hiding in the red keep while Aemond fight for him? i feel they will really make him a clone of joffery by being man child , power hungry and coward.

Sara Hess seemed taken aback that the audience ended up swooning for Daemon, in that she gave explicitly anti-Daemon interviews? But that's .. ?? How is it logical (from a marketing perspective) to pit him against poor Tom, who only gets a couple of minutes of screen time, and expect things to be even steven?

And it's not even the same thing, because Daemon is merely the consort, whereas Aegon and Rhaenyra are leaders of their respective factions, the two options for monarch. You can't whitewash one to the extreme, while giving the other the worst possible interpretation. In a story that is famous for the "both sides bad, all war terrible" angle.

I just don't get it. If they wanted to make the greens the bad guys from the get-go, Aemond was right there, it could have been very easy and convenient to make him some kind of child terrorist, yet they seem to like him a lot and gave him a humanizing plot (??) Whereas Aegon is the one they turn into the monster? Aemond/Daemon being the awful ones would have made more sense, since they're foils already.

This is why I tend to think there must have been some disagreements in the writers' room, because I've heard too many contradicting takes from the showrunners/actors that don't really vibe with what's being displayed on screen. So something must have happened between intention and execution and my guess would be too many chefs in the kitchen.

What makes me happy about them: Their vibe. I know that seems vague but I like the way they respond to each other, from another post of mine (about the scene that just made me go, I'm shipping them): Jon’s gaze softens when he talks to Sansa like when he’s genuinely relieved after being genuinely hurt when he thought Sansa actually viewed him the same way she viewed Joffery, a tyrannical king and her abuser (which is how he looks at her often — the soft gaze)whereas Sansa’s expression is intense, like she’s fierce in her gaze, which she is even when she and Jon are sharing a soft moment, her eyes sort of blaze 

What makes me sad about them: The show did not explore their full potential.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I write ff but I don't actually read it unless a ff writer specifically asks me to read some of their work.

My wishlist: Show's over and I don't read the books but I guess for the book to explore their full potential.

Sansa felt that she had swallowed a bat in her tummy when she saw Joffery looking at her in ASOS. In same book she was described as some kind of witch with bat wings fly away after killing Joffery with spells. For me it's foreshadowing for Dany. Dany had a child who had bat wings. She also dream of having bat wings which came true through Drogon. She already engaged in witchcraft in AGOT. Sansa 'killing' Joffery could be implying Dany killing Aegon. Thoughts?

The question to me is: what purpose do these parallels serve?

The suggestion of Dany connected to regicide or kinslaying is not so outlandish that GRRM needs to try and foreshadow it subtly by using Sansa as a "passive vessel". The parallel is not to the future for Dany but to the past. So the foreshadowing must apply in the other direction.

The entirety of ASOS, but especially the weddings and that wedding breakfast, have a number of parallels between Sansa and AGOT-Dany, and the death of a "king" is no exception.

Sansa witnesses the murder of the guy she was originally supposed to marry, which is officially blamed on her legal husband. It gains her the reputation of a killer. Joffrey and Viserys seem to line up more than Joffrey and Aegon. It's also a vague parallel to Cersei, who thought to marry Rhaegar and marries his killer instead.

Dany "exchanged" Drogo's child for the dragons. Cersei had three bastards with her twin. Sansa has... a leather-winged creature in her belly. Not her husband's work, for certain. If we are going three for three... Brienne is bearing the Lothston bat shield on the first part of her journey to find Sansa, but she paints over it with kingsguard Duncan's personal arms. Not exactly fertility imagery. So this bat likely refers to something closer to what Cersei and Dany did: a "child" by a controversial partner, incest-vibes and an elemental connection to her ancestry: snow. Or a "leather-winged creature", a snow dragon.

The bat-in-tummy is part of a pattern in this chapter: mentions of an upset tummy and moonblood, mentions of burning eggs, mentions of having a baby in her belly by the same Joffrey who triggers the bat comments, mentions of Ellaria bearing bastard children... there is a lot of imagery playing on fertility and bastardy surrounding that bat for Sansa.

She is not Joffrey's bride, and not truly Tyrion's wife, and the bat fluttering in her belly is only an image. It has to be about the future. A bastard bat in Sansa's future. Or, rather, a bastard dragon.

The rumored flight on batwings, on the other hand, is in Arya's POV much later. It underlines the connection between bats and dragons, but it's only a rumor that we know is untrue. Killing with a spell and flying dragon imagery fit Stannis and certainly Dany but not Sansa. The "magic" for Sansa was murder by poison, she climbed down from the castle herself, and her "wings" were the sails of a ship.

I'd venture a guess that this second mention is much closer to the kind of foreshadowing you suggest. This rumor matches the scary stories told of Danelle Lothston in AFFC, which foreshadow a twisted image of Hazzea and how rumors affect Dany's reputation in Essos and Westeros. It stands to reason that this is an instance that paints a contrast between Sansa and Dany. When told about Sansa, the rumor is pretty silly. But people will have reason to tell similar stories about another character in the future, and then they might just be true. Killing kings with a spell ("Dracarys") and flying away and all.

I remember a post about how Ary@ taste in men is better than Sansa by comparing gendry and joffery as their first love interest. @butterfly-dragons had given them befitting reply so kudos to her. Antis really think that joffery is boyfriend to her which she had chosen for her forgetting the system and era she is living. Not only that she is not even a teenager merely a child. I have always seen people blaming Sansa for being blind and selfish not seeing that she didn't have power in situation.

People always forget that POV means that the POV character is not privy to the information other POVs don't share with them.

Sansa knew that she was supposed to marry Joffrey and he was good looking and he actually even treated her nicely.

We tend to support Arya in the Trident incident but from Joffrey's perspective there was a peasant who beat up a lady and he wanted to put him in his place - it might even come into it that he had tried to impress Sansa the whole day (telling her that they could drink wine etc.).

Sansa was afraid he would be angry at her but since her betrothal isn't called off she knows that she has to be nice. She compartmentalizes and blames Cersei for the killing of Lady.

And the interesting thing is that the next time she sees him it's the banquet before the melee.

Sansa fears she will be humiliated but in fact Joffrey is nice to her, compliments her etc. And then she witnesses that Robert, the king her father supports, publically humiliates Cersei. It might not be conscious but she compares her own situation to Cersei's and from what she knows Joffrey looks nice in comparison.

Hence her "he is not like that fat drunken king" when she fights with her father. Ned expects her to pick some of the bad vibes of the Lannisters but Sansa cannot form a well informed opinion because her father and sister do not share their misgivings. And Ned definitively decides far too late that the betrothal should be cancelled.

Joffrey's behaviour towards her only changes after he had beheaded Ned. And that is the moment Sansa understands that she is a teenage girl in a terrible situation without a protector.

This dynamic of Viserys acting like Alicent’s kids are not his own blood, while Rhaenyra’s bastards are propped up as true bloods has the Jon/Joffery GOT vibe. The true prince is treated as a bastard and the true bastard is the prince. Idk just another shadow parallel

I just saw a tumblr post with a painting called Meeting on the turret stairs. It gave me vibes for Jaime/Sansa. Jaime as a member of her queen's guard, they have to keep their love hidden because of his past and the reaction of the lords of the north. Or even Sansa still in king's landing after years and years of war, marginally protected by her marriage to Tyrion (in name only) but with Joffery still king. Jaime returns without his hand and is rejected by Cersei and slowly over time trying to figure out a way to free Sansa (because keeping that vow to her mother is his last chance at honor) he falls for her and she falls for him, but they can never let anyone else find out for her safety.

I'm very familiar with the painting! It's a good one.

I'm a sucker for Sansa marries Jaime instead, but I've written my fair share of Sansa is married to Tyrion in name only Jaime/Sansa. Lannistans don't like that, lol. I adore writing Jaime and Tyrion, but they draw a certain reaction in my fic sometimes. Doesn't stop me, but it is an unfortunate byproduct.

I like your idea very much! I'm looking forward to writing more Jaime/Sansa very soon. (I just need to shake this cold to get back to writing... and grading--oops!)

Pride (FMAB): Similar abilities, looks down on normal people, isn’t afraid to kill their allies in pursuit of their own goals, the rest is spoilers

What I’m trying to say is that Apofis is evil trash like you can think he’s sexy all you want he’s still trash and I’d gladly spit on him
