System update and all that...
I have the strong feeling that if I don't update from Windows 7 very soon, I'm getting a strong ass malware lol.
Windows 11 is known for pink soup and crashes, but I will still need to install it for uni and work.
Windows 10 is already obsolete, so I don't want to go for that because in a few years I'm going to be in the same situation again.
Linux Mint refuses to dual boot with Windows. I had to unplug its SSD.
Kubuntu does allow dual booting, but SimPE refuses to work on it for me, and I really need it.
I've seen some tech-savvy users recommend Fedora (@brandinotbroke in particular comes to my mind!) but have we got our tools (SimPE etc) to work on it? is it a good distro for Linux beginners, in your opinion?
I could just disconnect my w7 from the internet but I need it for mods and cc making. :(
Tech deities of simblr, what do you recommend for me? What is a distro that I can use well with Sims 2 and its tools, that can still dual boot with Windows?
....... I should also mention that both Mint and Kubuntu caused audio buzzing 馃槶 if you have tips on that I'll be eternally grateful !!!!!
#....... help. I'm lost 馃槶#linux simming#xwp talks#genuinely like Mint ran so well from live usb. no buzzing no malfunctioning#as soon as it was installed the buzzing started again#plus it somehow ate the grub menu and I can't boot into Kubuntu anymore.....#I'm too much of a noob for this stuff but I really want to learn

i'm too sleepy to say this properly but i really don't understand why everyone seems to be moving to bluesky from twitter. like obviously i get that musk-run twitter is shit but also twitter at its core is shit. crazy small character limit that you can't get any fully-formed thought out with, like/follow counts, infinite scroll, lack of customization, etc. i get that it's got some better moderation but its the same social media slop as every other platform. why would anyone want a twitter 2. the only new social media i thought had promise was cohost and that thang died before it even got any widespread awareness?
#x#im so anti-socmed its not even funny#is anyone even using their bluesky accounts. cuz i still see yall liking my tweets....#im only still on there for art + avoidant personality reasons but i rly dont need another mind-numbing service to hop on#plus i bet ppl r gonna be just as annoying on bluesky w discourse and other shit. NO THANKS!#id take mastodon w all the tech guys making incomprehensible posts abt linux and ruby over more 'you got this char's skin tone wrong' slop

I adore the Lone Gunmen as much as every other X-Files nerd, but while watching season 3's Wetwired, I realized that whether it be the 1990s or the 2020s, once you get ANY of them talking about Linux or FOSS (Free Open Source Software) they would be absolutely horrendous in how much they talk it up.
They'd put your average Linux/FOSS evangelist to SHAME with how much they'd be glorifying all of it.
#lix rambles#x-files#x-files the lone gunmen#i might also be watching x-files while a tad high#i don't think they'd force it on scully and mulder at least#but be very careful what elaborating questions regarding their demonstrations you ask#on the plus side i'm sure it'd give mulder a few ideas on creating emergency distractions#some of this is definitely a techie in 90s was generally neck deep in linux and software distro#foss was so common it wasn't a movement until bill gates started privatizing so much of software#which don't get the lone gunmen started on THAT either#...and don't get ME started on the various ideologies within that sphere some of which do intersect with the whole anti-gov conspiracy thin

After trying out the various different Linux distros (Zorin, Mint, ect) I've finally decided on using Ubuntu for a while. Not as many apps in the store as Zorin and Mint鈥攂ut it makes up for it in having a wider screen (which works for my shitty eyesight lol), I can go to Pro for free for personal use, and the fans aren't spinning so fast I'm afraid my laptop will take off.
#Cinnamon I'm saving for when I get a new laptop because my current one is almost five-to-six years old#xfce was fine but it didn't have a nightlight and I couldn't get redshift to work for some reason#and zorin was pretty good until the update manager kept failing to connect to the internet despite it being a strong 80 something signal#and I toggled it on and off just in case#then I tried Ubuntu and so far so good#doesn't have a lot in the way of apps in the store but it's still good#I might check out Lubuntu next time just to see how different it is#either way I'm free from windows and their bullshit so that's a plus across all boards lol#ubuntu#linux mint#zorin os

The Steam Deck is now cheaper than a Nintendo Switch in some places. And the Steam Deck can emulate anything with about an hour of setup!
#i got one like a year and a bit ago on sale but they're now just that price as standard#almost exclusively play emulated nintendo ds and n64 games and VNs but it also runs like. anything a mid-range gaming PC can run.#which is pretty damn impressive to me. it boggles me mind what you can get on that lil screen.#plus its also a handheld linux pc if you close steam (which is a built in feature)#anyway point is its nuts that its now the best value handheld console imo#(its probably the old model without the fancy new screen they released last year but like. you dont need that.)#i am playing 20 year old DS games they only have 3 polygons.

I'm visiting my parents and I took my Penguin Machine with me so I could actually configure it and learn to use it. I'm feeling like a kid learning to use Windows for the first time but it's been fine so far.
#it definitely helps that i have a friend who's day job is linux deving#so i can scream at them when something scary happens 馃槀#i also got this laptop from them. for free. so i'm like yeehaw#i was in a need of a new laptop anyway so this is definitely fine by me plus i've been penguin-curious for a longer while#personal

The wizard equivalent of Richard Stallman, who refuses to use any non-free (as in freedom) enchantments on his orb and only begrudgingly connects to the shared astral dreamscape through multiple layers of illusion spells: "I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Arcane casting is in fact the Weave/Arcane casting, or as I've recently taken to calling it, the Weave plus Arcane..."

Anyway the post I wanted to reblog was about making a bootable usb with persistence! It's essentially a little computer hosted on the usb, and can be run on almost any laptop/computer with a USB port. Download Windows on that USB, Linux Mint, Ubuntu, anything you want! You could even download multiple OSes if you use a multi boot creator (and you have enough space)!
You can go to pendrivelinux and use the Yumi creator (Your USB Multiboot Installer). There are even guides on there for how to download various OSes, though the basic rules should be the same. Plus, you can always use guides from other sites and other installers!
Personally, I plan to use Mint once I get a new USB (I need a new one for various reasons). I'm going to put Mint Cinnamon version on there (it's the most popular) and try to download it onto my laptop as well. My laptop is slow though so if that doesn't pan out I'll use the XFCE version since it's very light weight and uses little resources!
Here is a guide for installing Mint via Yumi and Here is Mint's guide to verifying the integrity and authenticity of the iso you download.
#I heard Linux lite is also a good one for slow devices#MAN I really want to make a bootable USB RIGHT NOW but I want to get a new USB first.#Firstly cus while yumi says you can use the USB as a normal USB after#I'm not sure if it means *only* after or not. Like will it delete all my files but then afterwards I can put new files on it just fine? Cus#I want to keep my old stuff. More pressingly though I bent my USB a little and then bent it back. But now I don't think it goes into ports#Smoothly. I don't want to damage a random laptop so I try not to use it much. But if I made a bootable USB I'd want to use it all the time.#On the plus side if I get a new USB I can get one with a lot more GBs. So I can download multiple OSes! I think I'd be able to do that with#Current USB but I'm planning on going from 32GB to 128GBs so it's a significant improvement! Plus it'd come with a thing to loop a keychain#Through. So that'd be nice.
